I never understand the whole 'I love this character so I'm going to ignore most of canon about them' EXCEPT for about Martha Jones. To Me she married her first fiancĂŠe and became an ER doctor at a teaching hospital and she volunteers with unit during international emergencies but they only let her have a unit ID because they know they couldn't control her anyway. To me.

Unpopular opinion time:
They should have only brought back Catherine Tate to Dr Who and left Tennant's doctor out of this
I'm sure the story is gonna be like he goes specifically back to her because of this weird repeat regeneration, but that's flimsy at best and easily could have been reworked to make it so that Ncuti Gatwa's doctor has to go to Donna for plot reasons instead, I think revisiting Donna's story is smart, there's a lot that can be done with the unfinished threads they left her with and she's a fan favorite so using her to introduce us to a new companion which turns out to be her daughter is honestly pretty clever and I really like that idea, but I know that the only reason they're doing it is because people really loved the dynamic of Tate and Tennant and are banking on the nostalgia factor along with Tennant's now incredibly famous name bringing in viewers rather than writing a good story to introduce us to the new doctor, Ncuti Gatwa, and his companion and their connection to the show that preceded them. Do Tate and Tennant have a wonderful amount of chemistry together that was definitely my absolute favorite dynamic of the show? Yeah one hundred percent. But if you're gonna try and tell me Ncuti Gatwa and Catherine Tate wouldn't also have an equally unique and electric kind of comedic chemistry together absolutely on par and cleverly purposefully similar to the dynamic of Donna and 10 that makes the veiwer feel a sense of weepy nostalgia without needing Tennant there for one single bit to make it all work then I'm sorry, you are not allowed to speak to me
And honestly, the return of Tennant and Tate has really only served to completely overtake the entire conversation surrounding Dr. Who and in turn the first female doctor, Jodie Whittaker, and the first black and queer doctor, Ncuti Gatwa, are both being overshadowed by two white faves from the less enlightened past of the show and the fandom in a way that just gives me flashbacks to the antiblackness that was the entire Martha Jones companion era, I feel like I'm being transported back in time to my youth watching everyone go gaga for Rose while pretending Martha either didn't exist or worse while I couldn't understand for the life of me what was so special about blondie when Martha was twice the character she was, but then again she was also given arcs and plotlines that were less than half as well written as Rose's so like the audience isn't the only one sharing some blame here
In conclusion I guess my point is that they should have left Tennant to Good Omens and only brought back Catherine Tate, because they didn't bring back Tom Baker when Sarah Jane made a guest appearance during Tennant's era and the only reason they're doing it now is for a cheap cashgrab twist that'll never live up to what might have been if the writers and producers actually decided to put in the actual work of writing a good launching off from Jodie into Ncuti and the return of Catherine Tate's Donna Noble and I shall weep with thoughts of what could have been for two actors who deserved better, Jodie Whittaker and Ncuti Gatwa deserved to have eras and debuts that went down in history, but as of now due to the decline in writing quality over the years the producers and writers have decided that instead of fixing that they will go for the cop out of nostalgia bait instead and the worst part? It's going to work.

OMG I didn’t know you’ve watched Doctor Who?? 👀 what’s your favorite episodes and characters?
I mean full disclaimer I haven't watched Doctor Who in quite a few years. I only watched a few seasons when I was 15 so I haven't really kept up with anything since then besides just random stuff I see about it floating on my dash
I watched all of 9 and 10, and the first season of 11's run before I dropped off. so I know my opinion is very basic and biased but my favorite doctor is 10, and my favorite companions would either have to be Rose or Donna. although I definitely think Martha is also a very underrated companion I never see anyone talk about her but I really liked her!!
gonna be so honest I don't think I remember enough of the show to remember specific episodes outside the big ones like Bad Wolf (love you Rose) or the one where the Doctor meets River Song for the first time and she knows him but he doesn't know her (god that one is so good) or of course the one that post I reblogged was referencing lol

hi, me again! loving the ten bot, it’s super well written!
Out of curiosity, which has been your favorite bot to write thus far? ˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶
Oh man, that's a really tough question. Back when I first started writing bots (jeez, I say that like it was ages ago. July and August feel forever ago) I would put out like, 5+ on the daily. Therefore, it's a little hard to remember how I felt while writing each one.
I'm just gonna tell you my favorite bot for each character I've done (other than like, Ellie Miller and Ron Weasley. Because there's only one each at the moment).
I'm so sorry, this one is crazy long. They're in alphabetical order if you only want to look at one or two. Also, I didn't include Phileas Fogg on this list because a create-your-own bot is a blank slate, so for all intents and purposes, I only really have one Phileas bot up.
Alec Hardy: Good morning... Not.
Because obviously. He's the wide favorite, and he's very special to me too because I would love to wake up beside Mr. Alec Hardy, even if he thought I was an octopus of a woman.
Aziraphale: Study Buddy
I just remember feeling really awkward about writing Sleepover! I think it was a logistics thing about are there even bedrooms in or above the bookshop.
Barty Crouch Jr. : On the Brink
Sorry, on the one hand he's played by DT, on the other he's on his way with the user to torture the Longbottoms in Crazy for You. I prefer fluff pieces.
Campbell Bain: Bad Handwriting
I'm a sucker for soulmates and I really like the idea that Cammie boy has utterly wretched handwriting. You think this boy has time to write all neat and pretty? Nay! It's the worst you've ever seen, babes.
Crowley: Aw, kid...
I like found family. Also, if memory serves, this is one of the first ones I created after watching the show, and I finally felt like I was getting his manner of speech right.
Davina: Wrong table!
This was just a giggle and a half to write. I enjoyed writing the reader's panic as Davina started to inwardly freak out and pull away. I remember the prompt for this being a second date and I had no idea what to do, and this was the first thing I came up with that seemed unique and fun.
Donald Peterson: Paint Night!
Again, this was just fun to write. I like characters that we don't know a hell of a lot about because there's more room for my own personal ideas and headcanons to bleed through.
Doug McLeod: Sundress
This one came to me in a flash one day and I knew I had to write it immediately. I mean, Doug can be a little bit of a childish twat, but like... he's cute. And again, we don't know much about him, so I have more freedom.
Eleventh Doctor: Clumsy
I wanna bake cookies with Eleven. And the image of him covered in flour is kind of adorable. Plus, I love Christmas.
Fourteenth Doctor: Sunrise
I like the slow moment with Fourteen. My bedroom is in the attic, and I love watching the sunrise when I'm up early enough. I'd love to just curl up with Fourteen and spend a morning watching the sky as the sun comes up.
James Arber: On my way...
I'd like to believe in true love. I think it's a fun little meet-cute. I think I was feeling particularly in love myself (I have the best boyfriend in the world) when I wrote that. Also, I liked slipping in the Dirty Brian reference.
Martha Jones: Ink and Paper Memories
This was my first Martha bot and I had no idea what to do with her. I love Martha, I think she's a great companion. She's smart and resourceful and she deserved SO much better than what she got, which I know is not a hot take but I stand by it. I think this scenario came together nicely. However it would be nice if people specified pre- post- or during a companion's time on the TARDIS. I still think she came out pretty good.
Ninth Doctor: Hugs.
Now, I was a good little nerd and didn't skip Nine. He was my first Doctor and I will always have a soft spot for him. Ten may be my favorite, but Nine was my first. And I've always found him very huggable. He's just a traumatized puppy in a leather jacket. He needs hugs. He needs hope. So naturally my bot devoted to hugging him is my favorite of his bots.
Peter Carlisle: First Date
With his snacking tendency, Peter must be a fantastic cook. He seems like the type to be a fantastic cook to me. Of course he'd take you to a cooking class together for a first date. He just would. My first of his bots, and I was inspired!
Roderick Peterson: We lost...
I'd like to think that while he's a snob at competitions and in school, he's a real softy with his partner. Especially after the ending of Nativity 2 where it's revealed that he still has the other half of the picture of him and Donald as babies. This one was fun to write. Especially the bit where the user yells at him.
Rose Tyler: None
I like them all equally.
Simon Yates: Pumpkin Carving
It's a cute lil' family activity. I think it's fun. And honestly, let the poor guy be happy for a little while. I know he was a BAD husband when Rosie was born (and probably for a while before that, too) but he turned it around. Let him be happy. And again, I prefer fluff pieces.
Sirius Black: None
Uggggggghhhhhhh these didn't come out how I wanted. I'll probably rewrite them at some point in the future.
Tenth Doctor: Just a Kiss
Based on the song by Lady Antebellum, this one is my favorite because I love the idea of the Doctor getting to love someone so wholeheartedly. Poor sucker's been denying himself for so long; I love the idea of him finding his soulmate, a partner in crime who he just can't help loving to pieces. (Also for the record I do love me some TimePetals.)
Thirteenth Doctor: Sailor Song
So, little thing about me: I'm bi. I wasn't raised particularly religious, but I do have two very religious grandmothers and mildly religious grandfathers. I wrote this bot thinking about my own feelings and letting myself be sad that I'll never get to be truly honest with them about who I am. It was cathartic to write and it came from the heart. It's part of why I love that song so much.
Twelfth Doctor: Marketplace
I LOVE WANDERING AROUND POP-UP MARKETPLACES. I love poking around at jewelry and knickknack stands. Oh my GOD it's so much fun. So, y'know. Naturally.
Holy moly that was a long post. Have a cookie if you made it to the end. Have a rest. Goodness. 🍪

Doctor Who: The Ultimate Speedrun Marathon - Series 3 (2007)
The semester’s keeping me busy but trust me I’m still trying to keep this speedrun going and get caught up on everything before May, so I’m glad to say I finally finished Series 3 yaaaaayyy! It was a lot of fun, especially in how it carried over from Series 2 into 10’s adventures with a new companion after Rose. Aight let’s get into it…
Tumblr media
General Thoughts
Right off the bat, I loved Martha as a companion. Similar to Sylvester McCoy, I was familiar with Freema Agyeman from her stellar work on Sense8, so I was already a fan of her’s as soon as she popped up on screen. She’s got her own brand of intelligence and spunk that bounces off of 10 really well. Don’t get me wrong, I love that Rose was carried over from Eccleston’s tenure into Tennant’s, but I believe that Martha meeting 10 as he is for the first time in this series was beneficial to them building a better chemistry. Also, it’s great and refreshing to see the Doctor get his first black female companion in the show’s history. Overall, probably one of my fav companions so far, if not my favorite.
Tumblr media
Not much to add in regards to David Tennant’s performance as the 10th Doctor, but I’ll heap praise anyways. He’s just as charismatic as he was last season, never phoning it in for even a second. All of 10’s big emotional and personality quirks can really be chalked up to Tennant’s clear love of the material, which was also apparent in the previous two Doctor actors I’ve covered thus far.
Tumblr media
Besides the Doctor and Martha, Series 3 also had a really big moment that I was pleasantly surprised to see be built up so well: the return of The Master. Last time I saw that character in this speedrun watch-through, he was ‘90s Eric Roberts doing his best impression of an effeminate man. I was wondering how he’d inevitably return after his fate in the TV movie, so I genuinely felt the rug pulled out from under me when he was revealed to have been hiding right under my nose as Professor Yana in Utopia. Derek Jacobi played both the unassuming professor and the menacing Master really well, so props to him. As for his almost immediate successor, John Simm as the 7th Master, I must admit…. not really my thing. I will admit he had some great moments that made me truly hate him (which in turn made me like him more cuz well y’know he’s the villain duhh), but the over the top flamboyance just gave me major BBC Sherlock Moriarty vibes. idk, again I still haven’t seen the classic series in its entirety yet, so maybe that’s just how the Master is, but I’m inclined to believe Stephen Moffat is the common denominator in this specific characterization. Despite my criticisms tho, Simm’s chemistry with Tennant was really fun. Much more dynamic than the complete diva Paul McGann had to act off of.
Tumblr media
Favorite Episodes
• Blink
• The Shakespeare Code
• The Lazarus Experiment
• Human Nature
• The Family of Blood
• Daleks in Manhattan
• Evolution of the Daleks
• Utopia
Favorite Moments
• The entirety of Blink was a really clever well done treat for me. It felt a lot like an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and it just played with Doctor Who’s version of time travel so well and to such great effect. The Weeping Angels are now some of the Doctor’s most iconic foes, which is well deserved because they are super memorable and scary as fuck. Also it was funny to see baby Carey Mulligan here lol
• The moment Professor Yana reveals himself to be The Master was so crazy cool. Like just a few seconds earlier when he started acting weird and jaded I was thinking “holy shit is he the Master he’s gotta be the Master” and I was right 😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎
• I appreciate that Martha mentions how William Shakespeare doesn’t look exactly like he does in the famous portraits we have of him. It’s still kind of a topic of speculation as to what exactly he looked like in his youth, so I liked that she’d pick up on that.
• “Come on. We can all have a good flirt later!” “Is that a promise, Doctor?” “Oh, 57 academics just punched the air.” I love this show
• They should induct Blink into the National Film Registry for preservation just for the introduction of the phrase “wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff” alone
• Captain Jack Harkness (great to see him back btw) is THE FACE OF BOE????????????????? not sure how to feel about that. points for creativity tho
• tryna just chill and watch The Lazarus Experiment then BOOM!!!!! MARK GATIS JUMPSCARE AHHHHHHHHH
• The sound of a militaristic drumbeat constantly playing in the Master’s head is a great motif. One of the things I did like about Simm’s portrayal was how well he got across the maddening effect of the drumbeat’s sound in his head.
• The series finale was soooo crazy. I loved how the consequences of the Master’s plan were shown to have been so hard to crack that it took a whole year for them to even get close to him. It really built up the Master as a new kind of villain for this revamped version of the show. Also, fucking good on Martha for busting her ass to travel the globe and gather the support of millions. She’s such a badass
• “Good old J.K.!” *thousand yard stare*
Alright, that about wraps it up for Series 3! I had a great time with this series, even if it took me a bit to get through. Time to crack on, though. Gotta keep this speedrun train going. Onto Series 4, which (for the most part) marks David Tennant’s final tenure as the 10th Doctor.

“I’m 903 years old, and I’m the man who’s gonna save your lives.”
Well. My fridge has decided to completely die, which is really fun, and I’m fighting with Lowe’s to get it delivered tomorrow even though I know that’s absolutely not going to happen, and I had a phone screen with a recruiter for a company I’m dying to work for and I’m anxious as hell about a bunch of things suddenly, and that’s annoying as hell.
SO I’m still hunkering down in content because that’s just what ya do. Even though the dangerously low simmer my brain has been on has been causing problems in my life, I’m not ready to give in and boot up just yet.
But what I AM doing is getting EXTREMELY excited about the Doctor Who 60th anniversary episodes, so we’re gonna dive into it. Because we have to.
Doctor Who is a thing for me. Doctor Who is sitting in a stingy apartment outside of Boston with my roommate (who I had a major crush on, and eventually became my husband, which is definitely its own story) and watching episodes on a shitty laptop while we drank beers late into the night. I remember losing my mind when we found out who the Face of Boe was, my heart breaking during Rose’s goodbye.
My husband had seen it all at that point, he brought me into it and he enjoyed watching me watch it more than watching it himself. I asked a million questions, constantly,  and he refused to tell me anything. At one point my inner monologue became extremely British and I had to resist shouting “OI!” at him when he was being a jerk. Doctor Who wove its way into our extremely weird love story; I fell for the Doctor while falling for him.
So it’s really no surprise how obsessed over David Tenannt’s 10th Doctor I was. I mean, he was the first boyfriend Doctor, right? You could argue 9 was, but in this house, we don’t really talk about 9. You get through 9 and then you get to amazing, perfect, wonderful 10 and it’s all over.
Also yes I’m very aware that I’ve said Matt Smith’s 11  is my number one Doctor and he absolutely is, but this is about 10. Because you have to separate them. The show is as good as it is because each of them are unique, while keeping that pulse of doctor underneath. And David does it so beautifully.
Like everybody probably, I did really love the Rose/Doctor relationship on the first watch. Boyfriend Doctor is supposed to have that little romantic string, right? And he was so sweet with her - burning out a sun to say goodbye. That got me. The moment he tells her she could spend the rest of her life with him, but he couldn’t do the same.
Maybe for me the appeal of the Doctor though is the loneliness of it, and  it drips from 10. He’s fully inside of his feelings about being the last of the Time Lords, and he’s always so sorry when things go wrong. He wants to be with humans, he wants to experience things with them but he feels guilty about it because he knows that it never, ever works out. He’s excited and resigned at the same time. I felt a lot of that. He was sad and he was beautiful. And everyone kept fawning over him.
Except, for Donna Noble. She is my favorite 10 companion by far. She takes no shit from that man and the bond they end up with is so pure. I love the fact that she tells him no the first time he invites her to travel with him; that mofo had just murdered a bunch of crazy spider babies, dripping wet and radiating fury, and she was. not. having. it. And she was right about that. He had to get through the Martha Jones mess and realize he’s just fucking about with these poor girls before he could deal with the absolute powerhouse that is Donna-effing-Noble.
Makes him help free a slave society from servitude? Check. Forces him to save at least someone from Pompeii even though it’s a fixed point in time? Yeap. Becomes half time-lord and saves his ass? Obviously. They complemented the hell out of each other; she made him better and he did the same.
Honestly, if I could be any one of them, I’d be Donna. I’m a pain in the ass, too. Sometimes it’s fucking needed. Brilliant people, amazing, shining sparkling people need to be balanced out too.
Her ending is by far the saddest one in 10’s adventures. He has to wipe her memories of him so her mind isn’t swallowed up by time lord power, and it’s devastating. She’d come into herself with him, and he had to sacrifice all of that to let her live. Back to her basic life. Back to that horrible grind of absolutely everything. She was gonna travel with him for the rest of her life.
Which is why I’m SO excited to see how they bring the two of them back. If any companion deserves it, it’s Donna. Rose is set with her cloned human doctor, Martha is knocking about doing this and that with Mickey? Right? But poor Donna, trapped in that very human, very boring, very static life. But she’s gonna come back, and she’s going to put him in his place again, and it’s going to be brilliant.
Did I cry a little bit (a solid bit) when I saw the first full trailer? 100% yes. Donna Noble is very much another one of my spirit animals.
And David Tennant has taken up permanent residence in my brain. After Good Omens season 2 I obviously had to watch all of 10’s story again and now it’s all mashed up in Crowley (and the infinite Crowley’s I’ve devoured through a sheer metric ton of fanfic) and I kind of love that. That man is chameleon and fully inhabits every role he plays but seeing 10 after the Crowley of it all, it makes more sense somehow.
I clearly want to believe there’s a universe out there where they exist together.
I also am going to believe that this whole 60th anniversary thing came around just for me. Because what I need right now is more of 10, running and saving and running again, lonely and sorry and excited and beautiful, and older but not, and different but not.
My love for 10 is wrapped in my love for a lot of things that happened in my life and I wouldn’t be having an existential crisis without him coming back to me, so maybe I can love some of the things that are happening in my life right now. He’s going to be 10 and 14 at the same time, and maybe that means I can be a few things at once, again. Instead of whatever it is that I am, now. Maybe I can bring those things together again.
It’s good that 11 is a singular thing, a completed something. Because 11 for me is someone else, as much as it pains me. Which is something I’ll get to. But I need 10 to keep going, and I really can’t wait to see it. It’s going to fuck with me in all of those uncomfortable, perfect ways.
It’s gonna be good, it’s gonna be glorious.  So: Allons-y.

Hellsite Nostalgia Tour 2023 Day 102
Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead
Doctor Who double feature night! And I'm wondering, if I had to redo this (and god...if this is all still here in another 10 years, maybe I'll do it again), would I put all two part Doctor Who episodes in one night? Will this set of episodes even be a good gauge as they were the first ones I ever saw? Which I did watch as they aired? Before I was ever even on tumblr? But I'd heard of the show and happened to be doing a study abroad program in London that summer? Who's to say?
What I can say is that these two definitely hold a special place in my heart because (from all the Doctors and companions I've seen so far) Donna and Ten are my very very favorites, and for them to have been my first ones as well purely by accident, by sheer circumstance
"Silence in the Library"
Plot Description: The TARDIS arrives in the Universe's greatest library. But what lurks in the shadows?
I forgot that the Doctor actually greeting whatever (I can't remember if it was one of those things that Donna gets turned into) in the little girl's mind library was actually canon and not an outtake like the "I hate pears" monologue
Yeah, and this is probably one of those things that really made me think to go back to it once I did join tumblr. I loved how the Doctor talks about books. And yeah. It's still good
She's very valid for her disappointment of wanting a beach episode and getting a library one instead. No wonder she takes a spa day next 😬
At one point, I almost had a pretty fucking good replica of Donna's outfit. I was just missing the short sleeved cardigan thingy she's wearing. Also, her ponytail is flawless. Mine never look that good. (But it also reminds me of how much I wanna cut my hair)
You know, Vashta Narada aside, I would LOVE to go to this library
Donna kicking in the door because the sonic screwdriver "doesn't do wood" <3
This poor little girl...
Hmmm...I'm starting to wonder if the face of the guy chosen for the help desk thingy is the same guy who's Donna's fake husband when she gets "saved."
You know between the Vashta Narada and whatever the fuck is in Midnight, these episodes are PROPERLY scary
"I'm a time traveler. I point and laugh at archeologists" "Professor River Song, archeologist"
Oh, she just wants to be useful. So of course before she dies, Donna's gonna befriend her
What an interesting look for Donna to have as River marvels at how young the Doctor is, as she comes to realize this is the first time he is meeting her even though she already has so many memories with him. It's so very different from when Donna met Martha. This is protectiveness and almost jealousy.
No because for real...like...River's such a cool and interesting character and I'm almost afraid to go in the the next seasons where Moffat has control over what happens with her
Oh, don't go wandering off. Please don't go wandering off! (Me when I know she's going to wander off and get killed)
Ohhhh, she wants to talk to Donna one last time before she's gone...
Look...I'm not saying that we're gonna ACTUALLY get any payoff and actual closure or continuation from River knowing the Doctor but only knowing OF Donna before this episode in the 60th anniversary special, but WOULDN'T IT BE GREAT??
Not to be yearning on the yearning website, but like...I don't even like running, but I'm dying watching the Doctor grab Donna's hand to run and (what I believe was) River grabbing the Doctor's hand to do the same...
The repetition of "Hey, who turned out the lights?" and "Donna Noble has left the library. Donna Noble has been saved" as sentences spoken into the void not necessarily at anyone anymore is funny outside of the context, but the are HAUNTING
"Forest of the Dead"
Plot Description: As the shadows rise, the Doctor forges and alliance with the mysterious River Song
What IS Dr Moon's function?? Like, he's just kind of looming and a little creep last episode til he tells the little girl that the real world is a lie and The Library is real and there are real people there who need to be saved...which ratchets up the creepiness a LOT
He...IS the planet's moon?? I'm just.....this is suspending my disbelief a little too high over a little too much.
I'm like 90% sure she just told him his actual name, but my GOD the way he snaps back into action after hearing it.
Okay. Okay. On one hand, it IS a good reveal. Saying that there are five people still alive in that room when there are actually six people in the room. But like...forgive me for thinking she meant that there are five people aside from the Doctor alive
(So, it doesn't seem like the guy from the help statue things is the same guy that Donna's unreality after being saved)
"You hunt in forests, what are you doing in a library?" is such a good ALMOST revelation. It makes the watcher think about the implications of an entire world that's just a library...
Much as I do love libraries and old buildings with great wooden fixtures, this is a great psa against deforestation. This planet was once a great forest, and now...the wood has been chopped and fixed into place to build the library OR been pulped and turned into paper for the books that fill it. It's no wonder they've adapted and are taking back their home
I forgot there were two Daves on this expedition. There didn't HAVE to be two Daves, but...
I get so mad when these rich guys are the ones who either make it out or make it the longest. It happened on the Voyage of the Damned and it's seemingly happening now with the guy who chartered this expedition to the library his family built
Oh, poor Donna having her whole world rocked...I can understand her resistance to reality
On a scale from Donna Noble to Wanda Maximoff, how well do you deal with realizing your children aren't real?
GODDDDD the way he can make so many enemies retreat just by saying his title. I guess that would come with killing every other being of your species in order to ALSO kill your mortal enemies and stop the Time War
...I forgot this is not just the first time the Doctor meets River. It's the last time River meets the Doctor.
And the extra heartache of Donna insisting that her unreality husband was real and having to lose him...
And they walk off hand in hand...😭
BUT HE WAS REAL.
Okay. So maybe the rich guy wasn't so bad and seeing River reunited with her team and Miss Evangelista was nice...

Oh yes, I do not like Moffats' work on Doctor Who. He made too many plot holes, he focused on grandiose stories while characters and relationships got completely neglected or unlikable with time. His stuff is fine in small quantities, like standalone episodes can be great, but when it's bigger it gets all over the place and out of control with him. Also he used a lot of ex machina moves, which just drives me nuts when used in a story. I get that he wrote it celebrating his own creativity and fantasy, not wanting to be stopped in his tracks telling stories he wanted to tell, but it looks lazy from the outside, even in a fantasy world. But that's just my opinion.
Now onto other stuff. Clara is my favorite companion, that's why I know people don't like her that much. I do not see her as a nagging woman, but that's the point in my opinion. Others do, but she's really human to me. She can be smart and witty, but she can also be moralizing, have no idea what to do, jump the gun too quickly or not at all. Like you said it, she's the morality compass for this doctor, but by being so human she reminds watchers of people they know who they don't like or even the part in themselves they don't like. Clara can become a sort of litmus test in a discussion the way other companions can't. She does not represent one or few things, like Rose was all about being young and falling in love with the Doctor, just like Martha, who was a med doctor herself on top of that. I can't put into words what was River's thing, but when I think about her I know she did have it. Amy was a young girl trying to create her life and was a childhood friend, but Clara was all over the place, she had to fit everywhere, and in some plot points she did just that, with her being the Impossible girl.
And yes, just like you mentioned it, she was in it for herself and for the adventures she can have with the Doctor. This was a really interesting point of yours, "That is not the answer I would expect from someone who always looks for the bigger picture (idealists). Nothing about the universe, about other worlds or people, about understanding, or anything of that nature." making me wonder what my answer would be and how could I use it in this conversation. The thing is, I have only re watched the Ninth doctor so far, so there isn't much groundwork I have to throw here, but I guess you're onto something here. From what I remember, she could juggle a few things at once, like on the Christmas episode where she had a family dinner, time trip and the Doctor barging in her home, and I think she was pretty fine, although maybe a bit exhausted after that. But the thing with her primary is, we don't have much to grasp on, except these small and easy things - her traveling just because, her liking hanging around people she likes, her loving Danny. That's all we have, but not because we are trying to simplify it and look at a bigger picture. That's all we have. Maybe there would be something more in the episode about her at work, dealing with other teachers and her kids, maybe not. All I know is she's not a badger, and from the solids that we have on her she's probably an internal primary. But I guess it's just not enough for me, I can't believe it's that simple and what we see is what we get with her. Not that she's not a snake primary, maybe it's even not wanting to sort her in order to not have to try to over identify with this character.
You raised a good point, that Doctor is never ready, never prepared. But Missy was wrong, I think, that's what he does, what always works in the end. That's kind of how this show works, things work themselves out, and they all live to see another day. But I doubt this makes Doctor happy. I haven't noticed it the first time I was watching DW, but on my rewatch there was only once when I thought the Ninth was really happy, and it was having lunch with the whole gang spying on someone. I might guess that the Ninth and Tenth had some badger streak and their companions made them happy, hanging around them and being with them, not the adventures.
I guess that's just how the story goes, the Doctor must always be an idealist. But even then, I always saw Eleven as someone who does everything for Amy, he does it for her, for her fiance, for her species, for her home planet. She was his childhood friend (and yes, I do mean his childhood, you cannot tell me the first episode of them meeting when she was a girl wasn't just two kids meeting, one stubborn and an ass, and the other one greatly confused), somehow fate brings him back to her, and he goes along with it. He will protect the Earth, but he could always destroy the world for her if it came to it, or maybe that's the vibes I got from him. But vibes are a bad source of sorting, so I like your idea of an idealist with snake model.
That quote from s8 ep 11 was a hard hit for me too, but like you said, there's always ifs and buts, but it's not something I would personally want to hold onto, rather than what the world would look like.
I might just be seeing Moffats' mess overall and not something that Twelve is.
You know, now that I think about it, Bill Potts was an idealist and she fit nicely with his primary. Twelve was probably the healthiest he ever been with her. He probably connected with him on the same primary and didn't need him create a loyalist one for her. Which could also mean he stopped feeling sorry about being an idealist and wanting to be someone else.
This might been too much of personal opinion essay rather than sortinghatchats one, but I'll leave it as it is, maybe you'll have some ideas about sorthing or others. You can cuss me out for being wrong of course, haha
What do you think?
Clara Oswald from Doctor Who is a double snake, and so is Twelve. Fight me on it!

dw ask game: oh i'm absolutely getting you canceled
1, 4, 9, 11, 15
bold of you to assume anyone will read this except you, but you can Try 😌
1. what was the first episode you watched/remember ?
my memory is ridden with holes, so I can't remember what my first episode was, just that it was something with Ten and Rose. the earliest episode that I can think of that stuck with me was Doomsday
4. who is your least favorite doctor ? why ?
does Six count if I couldn't even watch one episode with him because his vibes were so rancid? besides that, Ten, I've had enough of this dude, I liked him when I was only starting the show, but it's painful rewatching his episodes now that I'm older. the way he treated Martha? his dismissiveness of her feelings, and readiness to invite a racist in the tardis? yuck. I do like him with Donna still, but imo it was his only good season. if anyone besides night is reading this, I'm sorryyy (I'm not)
9. least favorite outfit of the doctor's ? why?
both 10 and 11 are kinda boring. suit and tie? really? what are you, straight? chdjskks
11. Turlough probably. also super boring. and Adric because he was a little shit dhjdkd I'm so sorry
15. what is your favorite companion outfit ? why ?
ohh boy there's a lot! but okay I'll just pick three
Romana in City of Death! her halo hat, her candy pin! absolutely iconic
Tumblr media
Clara in the Robin Hood episode! her red dress, her cute headband, the wing earrings! i love her so much
Tumblr media
Yaz's edwardian outfit!! we deserved to see more of Yaz in period clothes, she looks so good in them

For the Doctor Who ask: 4, 8, 12 and 20
4. who is your least favorite doctor ? why ?
the only doctor i actively dislike is s3 ten because of the way he treated martha. 10 as a whole is okay. he’s definitely in my bottom half for doctors but i don’t dislike him, particularly in s4 with donna, the way i dislike him in s3.
i love thirteen as a doctor but overall her era is my least favorite. jodie is a great actor and there’s all the building blocks there of a fantastic doctor, but imo the writing does not live up to her skill and that’s a shame to me. i wish she had more opportunities to be angry or righteous or take some sort of risk but it seems the writers don’t want to give her a lot of opportunities to be Wrong in the same way previous doctors were allowed to be.
8. favorite outfit of the doctor’s ? why ?
i am an absolute slut for all of three’s velvet coats. in modern who, i have a soft spot for 11’s first outfit mainly for the nostalgia. fashion wise, i think 13 has my favorite outfit in modern who, followed close second by 12’s s10 outfit.
12. favorite romance involving a doctor ?
as a rule i really don’t like doctor romances, especially doctor/companion romances. honestly, i love doctor/tardis as a soulmate reading and its the only ship involving the doctor i’m really into reading romantically. big fan of the doctor’s wife and looove whatever fucked up thing they had going on in zagreus. the tardis is one of the doctor’s most interesting relationships by far and i wish we explored it a bit more.
i’m also obsessed with what certain iterations of the doctor and the master have going on. i 10000% agree with the take that what makes a doctor/master pairing work is the somber note that they were friends once and if you don’t get the sense that on some level, deep down, these two people care about each other still (both of them! not just the doctor), then the doctor/master relationship really falls flat. that’s the most interesting aspect of their relationship by far imo. if there’s no lingering love there (platonic, romantic, whatever you want to read it as) then what’s the difference between the master and the monster of the week, honestly.
my favorite parings are 3/delgado and 12/missy. loooove watching them on screen together. obsessed with what they have going on.
20. if you could change anything about the show, what would it be ?
more companions that aren’t human and/or aren’t from 21st century earth, more variations in story length (big fan of having a few multi part stories and a few one offs. take as much time as you need to tell the story without the pressure to fill air time), and make it weirder. doctor who is at it’s best when it’s weird, cheesy, and full of heart.

If you're still up for doing the dw asks 1,3,4,11,14 & 15 ?
(1) what was the first episode you watched/remember?
iirc it was the eleventh hour. eleven's first ep <3. my sister introduced me to the show when i was like 11 or 12 or something. doctor who was still on netflix in those days..... i instantly fell in love with it, and i think i must've watched the rest of series 5 immediately, but i only really remember watching from series 1 after that. the eleventh hour really changed the timeline tho
(3) who is your favorite doctor? why?
ELEVEN. i know the moffat writing is bad i KNOW. but listen. matt smith's acting was SO good and i feel like the character was super nuanced and had a lot of depth. i love the idea that ten's era was so traumatic for him that he becomes the Man Who Forgets. my fav era with eleven specifically was the 11amyrory era. it has such a comforting and fairytaleesque vibe i love it i love 11
(4) who is your least favorite doctor? why?
okay fair disclaimer, i haven't seen too much of classic who, so i don't really have an opinion on doctors 1-8. i think 13 might be my least favorite. I actually have only seen up to series 11 whoops. it really killed my enthusiasm for the show tho. i feel like her morals were a little all over the place and i couldn't really get a clear idea of her in my head. like i wanted to like her, but i could just never click with her. i do plan on watching the rest of her run tho, so maybe my opinion will change :)
(11) least favorite companion?
I'm not sure if this an unpopular opinion or not but. i don't like river. i don't like that her whole story line and backstory is revolved around the doctor. i don't like that her whole purpose in life was to kill the doctor but GASP ~she fell in love with him~ idk it feels really cheesy and just never gelled with her. her storyline reached it peak at silence in the library imo. another fucking indicator that moffat is good at setting up a storyline but fails at executing it. fucker.
(14) what is your favorite serial/special?
the end of time for sure! i've seen all the specials but none of them really stick in my mind much lol. end of time is soooo good tho, i loved the dynamic between ten and simms!master, and i thought the plot line was really interesting. imo it was a fucking stroke of genius to have wilf be the one who knocks four times. beautifully set up, beautifully executed. and ten was so emo up until the very end. slay.
(15) what is your favorite companion outfit? why?
ARCHER MARTHA MY UNDERRATED FAVE
Tumblr media
sorry i litch rally can't find a good gif of her skirt, but i love this outfit. the knitted sweather. long red skirt. the quiver. i want to know her carnally. it's a shame this outfit only got like a minute of screen time.

You're Donna Noble.

Excerpt from my current WIP below.
Series: Forever With You Part 3
Story: Serpent’s Soul
Summary: Following an unexpected visit to Torchwood 3 for the first time in nine months, the Doctor and Rose end up taking Donna on a trip by herself, but nothing is quite what it seems, and it appears the universe may just be up to something.
“You are avoiding the party,” the Doctor said with a smirk, and Donna rolled her eyes, looking up at the stars.
“No, I’m not,” she said. “Just wanted a bit of air.”
He watched her, noticing the way she was gripping the edge of her mug as if her life depended on it, and he looked back downstairs, where Rose and Alice were smiling and dancing with the happy couple.
“Can I sit?” he asked.
“Do what you want, spaceman. You’re a grown man,” she muttered, and his brow creased as he took a seat beside her, wrapping his arms around his knees as he tried to spot what she was looking at.
“Orion’s belt,” he mused. “Ursa Major. Ursa Minor. Cassiopeia...Ooh...If Rose and I have another girl at some point, remember that one…”
Donna rolled her eyes and smiled softly, but she didn’t look at him, and his goofy grin fell when he saw the way she was trying to take deep breaths, and he realized she was trying not to cry.
“Donna…”
“I’m fine,” she said, still looking at the stars, but she wiped her cheek with the back of her hand. “I’m fine.”
“What’s wrong?” he asked, concerned, but she just shook her head and fluttered her lips, her gaze dropping to her shoes. “Did I say something rude again?”
She finally looked at him, his joke doing what he hoped, but he clenched his jaw and swallowed when he saw the look in her eye. There was a word for it, he was certain of it, but he couldn’t place it at the moment because all it was making him want to do was pull her into a hug, and that was exactly what he did.
A little to his surprise, she reciprocated instantly, practically squeezing him, and he let out a breath and met Rose’s eyes through the door, who bit her lip but didn’t walk outside, giving them some space. Donna pulled away, sniffing and wiping her nose with her sleeve, and the Doctor just sat next to her, unsure what he was supposed to say.
“I’m happy for them,” she whispered. “You know that, right?”
“Yeah, I know,” he said. “You’ve told them that?”
“Of course I have,” she groaned, and he furrowed his brow.
“Okay, well… Good, then. That’s good, right? Do you want to go back inside or -”
“No,” she sighed, setting her mug to the side, and his eyes never left her face, trying to figure out what was going on. “Not yet. I’m fine.”
“Those two words are some of my favorites,” he said thoughtfully, and she looked at him. “Right next to ‘complicated’ and ‘Allons-y.’”
“Complicated is good,” she whispered, and he reached over and grabbed her hand, choosing not to push her on whatever was bothering her, but at the feel of his touch, her jaw began to tremble, and he pulled away instantly. “Sorry.”
“Do you want to talk about it? I can go get Rose,” he murmured, but she shook her head. “Donna.”
“She’s having fun with Alice, I…. They deserve that, the two of them. She really is beautiful, by the way. Looks so much like her it’s…”
“Yeah,” he said with a smile, and Donna let out a shaky breath. “She’s started to say ‘Mama’ and ‘Dada’. It’s… I cried.”
“Ianto owes me money,” she teased, and he rolled his eyes. “Oh shut up. Of course you cried. Your entire world is those two. We all know that.”
He just winked, and she laughed a little, picking her mug back up and taking a sip, ignoring the fact the tea had started to grow cold. She sighed. “You’re thinking about more kids?”
“Thinking is the operative word,” he said, clearing his throat. “We want to wait a bit. But...well…”
“Hm,” she said in response, and he raised an eyebrow at her.
“You don’t think it’s a good idea?” he asked. She smiled.
“I think it’s wizard,” she said honestly, and he grinned back at her. “You are - if I have to say it - quite the father, Doctor. And Rose is Rose. Your kids will be a force to be reckoned with. Already are.”
“Thank you,” he whispered, and she nodded, then turned her attention back to the stars. “So… what was the ‘hm’ then?”
“Nothing,” she lied, and he waited, because he could tell she was about to tell him more. “Just… things are changing. And it’s good. It’s so good, it’s the best. But I can’t help but feel like there is going to come a day where you have so many kids you won’t be able to have any other companions on that ship of yours -”
“It’s bigger on the -”
“That’s not the point,” she said. “And like I said, it’s good. But Martha and Mickey are getting married. You’re married. Jack and Ianto probably will get married. Gwen has been seeing some bloke she won’t talk about, and I’m just…”
“Donna, don’t do that,” he tried to say, but she shrugged, and he watched her tuck her hair behind her ear and sigh.
“I would have been married for… what, four years now?” she asked, meeting his eyes with hers. “I’ve just been thinking about that today. Wondering, I guess. What my life would have been.”
He didn’t say anything, and she sighed, taking another sip of tea.
“You deserve so much more than bloody Lance Bennet,” he said seriously, and she laughed.
“I know that,” she told him, but he wasn’t convinced, and she shook her head. “I’ve just been thinking, Doctor. But I’m fine.”
“Are you sure?” he asked. She nodded.
“Part of me wishes I didn’t wonder about it so much,” she said. “It’s all my Mum wants for me which makes me not want to do it because God do I love pissing that woman off…”
He smirked, and they both chuckled a little until she continued.
“But then… Then things like today happen, and it’s all I can think about. And I’ve never done this before, but I’ve been looking at Alice and Tony wondering if I would have had a kid they could play with, too. And then you go and talk about having more and -”
“I’m sorry,” he said, and her mouth fell closed. “Donna, I’m sorry. I didn’t realize -”
“Stop,” she half-ordered. “Like I said, I think you should. It’s wonderful, seeing you so happy. I remember you two when we met. Whole other story.”
“We were happy,” he said.
“You were two idiots in love,” she teased. “I just don’t think I’ll ever have that.”
“I think you’re wrong,” he whispered, conviction lined in his words, and her breath hitched in her throat. “You’re Donna Noble.”
“I’m nothing special, Doctor,” she whispered, and he stared at her.
“Look at me,” he said, clenching his jaw when she did rather hesitantly. “Yes you are. You’re brilliant. And bright. And brave. And a whole lot of other things. It’s just a matter of time.”
She stayed quiet for a moment, not sure what to say as the words tried to dig into the chambers of her heart, and she took his hand, looking up at the stars again. “Your nougat center is showing again, mate.”
“Maybe,” he said, shrugging. “It’s also the truth.”
She looked at him, wondering how he managed to make her almost believe him.
“I...” she whispered. “Thank you.”

I am back, HIYA! I am Scarlet and I have you on my OC Bingo Card and would love to know more about your Doctor Who OCs and which one (if one) is your current muse
Hi!!! I can talk about my Doctor Who OCs all the live long day so this may get long haha
So my first DW OC was Callie Jo Frazier, who popped into my head while I was watching the first few episodes of season 1. She travels with every modern Doctor throughout 2005 show (minus season 10 for plot reasons). She's friends with Martha, Yaz, Ryan, and Graham, and best friends with Rose Tyler and then eventually the Ponds as well. Donna takes on a bit more of a motherly/older sister role for her. She and Clara start as friends and then become serious girlfriends (which is literally my favorite thing ever omg you have no idea) until Clara's death in "Face the Raven". She doesn't get to properly meet Bill, but if she did they would totally be best friends. Her story focuses a lot on her often complicated relationship with the Doctor. Despite the complications, she loves and trusts the Doctor more than pretty much anyone else in the universe, and the Doctor feels the same way.
Then we have Bernie Singer, my beloved 🥰 Bernie is from our universe and ends up in the Doctor Who universe through timey-wimey events. She travels randomly through the Doctor's timeline, jumping from one point to another without knowing when and where she'll appear. She has quite a complicated relationship with the Doctor, since she knows so much about them and at times they know a lot about her from the future. Bernie does eventually fall in love with the Doctor - and River ;) - and *spoilers* the three of them marry (however informal it may be) during "The Wedding of River Song". She gets along well with all of the companions, though just like with the Doctor it's difficult for her because she knows what will happen to them in the future, and often the companions know things about her as well that they can't tell her.
And finally, we have Anna Pond! Anna is Amy's younger sister who goes along with Amy and the Doctor on their travels in the TARDIS. She only travels with Eleven because her story is contained within Amy and Rory's. There are a lot of elements to her story that I'm hesitant to share because they're massive spoilers for the plot, but if you want to know them I would be more than happy to oblige! All I'll say right now is that there's a lot more to Anna than meets the eye ;)
None of them is my current muse as of right now just because I'm focusing on other fandoms at the moment. I also may have burned myself out with them a little bit since I worked on Callie Jo and Bernie for NaNo in 2020 and 2021, and 2021 NaNo was rough. But I'm hoping I can work on at least one of them soon because it's been way too long since I wrote for any of them and I love them all so much!
Thank you so much for asking!!

Very specific thoughts. I started Doctor Who with season 5 so I think I have a lot of nostalgia about that era, but the thing is that Moffat really isn't showrunner material. He can write a beginning that intrigues you and an ending that makes you cry, but he skimps on the details. Like I was excited to see The Doctor and River Song's love story but by the end I was like, 'did I miss an episode or something' because I felt like they told us how epic they'd be but failed to show us the love. And I like Amy and Rory as individuals but I feel like Amy was just marrying him because she didn't know what to do with her life. And like the sexism. Who knew not wanting to take your spouse's name meant you were childish.
lol i am so triggered by anyone starting dw with season 5 😂 moffat's misogyny was always lurking in his writing (weird ass classism and sexism in girl in the fireplace, shunting martha out of the way entirely for some white oc during blink, everything about river song in the library episodes) but he was able to ride it out because he had a great showrunner in rtd, who despite his flaws was far better at keeping things grounded imo.
I love a lot about season five but season six pushed me to my limits lol. every woman moff wrote lived for the doctor - their lives revolved around him. and you can argue that the companions don't need the fleshed out families and regular lives that rtd gave them but I just find rose, martha and donna a million times more relatable and believable than amy, river and clara (never watched bill so I can't comment on her). I think moffat was going for amy in particular being very much like a fantasy character in a fairy tale, which works really well in s5 because all of the mystery and weirdness was new, but he just doesn't know how to bring it all together in a way that makes any kind of sense imo. which is why the climax of river's story in s6 failed so hard for me. ironically the best parts of amy's story for me came in season 7 because she kind of felt more... idk... like a real person instead of a fantasy, and also like I loved every river and amy scene ever like more mama daughter scenes plsss
clara felt refreshingly real after amy left when they weren't pushing the mystery nonsense. ad I don't even mind mystery! bad wolf is one of my favorite arcs ever of anything, but that is always about rose taking control of her life and making her own choices instead of like with clara being the puzzle box for the doctor to solve without her knowledge.
I stopped watching after the first few episodes of season nine but I heard actually moffat's last season was his best, which is great because I was seriously worried about how he would treat a Black lesbian. maybe someday I will go back and finish the show but honestly moffat killed doctor who for me, and it is hard for me to go back to something like that.
also river and the doctor's love story makes zero sense when all is said and done lmao like why does moff always write these little girls falling for the doctor 🤮🤮🤮

Doctor Who?
001 | Send me a fandom and I will tell you my:
BTW I stopped watching half way through Capaldi's era.
Favorite character: Donna Noble or Martha Jones
Least Favorite character: Rory Pond
5 Favorite ships (canon or non-canon): Clara/12, Rose/10, Martha /River, Clara/Martha, Doctor/Master, Rose/Amy - honestly a lot of the female companions.
Character I find most attractive: Clara Oswald - I've had a massive crush on Jenna Coleman since her Waterloo Road days.
Character I would marry: Clara or Martha
Character I would be best friends with: Donna Noble
a random thought: I don't actually ship the doctor with that many characters. If I ship the doctor with someone then if has to be that incarnation of the doctor. Also I like RTD's era a lot because of the storylines I feel were more coherent and had more payoff throughout the season. But I think that Moffat did bring in a lot of interesting female characters and concepts. Also some of his MOTW episodes were brilliant and I loved how he expanded on some of the aliens later on.
An unpopular opinion: That people in the fandom view character development = obeying the doctor or becoming more like them. Apart from the case of Martha in which they still continue to hate on her when she is literally better than him in every way.
My Canon OTP: Rose/10 - you could tell that RTD felt they were THE couple in the show.
My Non-canon OTP: Martha Jones/River Song - this is based off a conversation my friend and I had about River running into Martha when shes at UNIT or torchwood.
Most Badass Character: Martha Jones - she saved the world by herself with no power ups and how she handled the scarecrow episode. Side note - Sarah Jane Smith mostly because she never gave up protecting earth even after leaving the doctor and I loved the Sarah Jane Smith series.
Most Epic Villain: The Master
Pairing I am not a fan of: Jack/10 - I like Jack and 9 but 10 literally called him an abomination to his face. Plus Jack and 9 had that energy about them.
Character I feel the writers screwed up (in one way or another): It sometimes felt that RTD was encouraging people to hate on Martha via the doctor who kept comparing her to Rose. And considering how much racist hate she got in the first place I feel like that arc of not caring what the doctor thought should have been done a lot better and with more care.
Favourite Friendship: Donna/10
Character I most identify with: Probably Donna because of stuff I was going through when I first watched it. Also I really understood the urge to slap the doctor.
Character I wish I could be: Amy Pond or Clara Oswald because I always loved their hair.
