This isn't me making excuses for Arianwen because she's still a terrible person and terrible mother.

But I like the idea that she originally wanted to bring back the Nameless Goddess. I keep coming back to what Kristen/Ally says about it seeming like she revered this god, rather than the Nightmare King.

I think a mixture of holding onto the cursed crown for so long and being around Kalina (who would have been at that point protecting the NMK not Cassandra) changed her mind and caused her to want to bring back the Nightmare King.
