Andy’s so tired.

Booker and Quỳnh are curled up on the bed on either side of her. She’s leaning heavily into Booker’s side, and he keeps pressing kisses to the top of her head. She’d say they’re absentminded but she knows that’s not true. Booker has always been intentional with her.

Nile is keeping watch. She’d said her goodbyes already, and they’re still not safe, but they couldn’t move Andy. Her injuries are too bad.

They’d thought she might pull through. Nicky thought she might pull through. But she’s been cold for hours, and she’s died so many times that she knows what that means.

Nicky’s crying. He’s sitting on the edge of the bed, softly crying, and Andy knows it’s because he blames himself. It’s ridiculous, really.

“Nicky,” she says. “Come here.”

Quỳnh shifts so that Nicky can slide up the bed and settle next to Andy. Andy wraps an arm around his shoulders.

“My Nicolò,” she says softly. “My sweet, brave, Nicolò. I don’t want you blaming yourself, you hear?”

Nicky swipes at his eyes. “Yes, boss.”

Andy leans in and slowly kisses him. It’s wet, and she realizes that she might be crying, too.

She doesn’t need to tell Nicky she loves him. She pours it into the kiss, everything she feels. How dear he is to her. How much she’s valued his company, his kindness. Even his tendency to be a preachy little shit.

He kisses her back, then pulls back and rests their foreheads together. “Andy,” he says, and then trails off. She knows it’s because there are no words.

She’s worried about leaving them all behind, but she knows Nile will look after them, and Booker and Quỳnh will look after each other. There’s nothing more she can do for them.

She squeezes Nicky’s shoulder. “Don’t blame yourself,” she says again. “Have a good life.”

He nods. “I will.”
