First, the more studious of the bunch:

Brennan is all-in, no hesitation, pulling up a chair next to you and learning this with you for moral support, but also for fun (can you believe this guy?) though you suppose it’s easier to enjoy this if it doesn’t count for a grade. Either way, he’s a very nice study partner, and he encourages you to take breaks every hour / chapter / etc. Brings snacks, too.

Violet somehow already knows all of the material, and explains it better than the textbook or the professor. Walks things back if you don’t get it and gets into the why and how, which so many teachers skip over, even though it helps explain the what (pet peeve of mine showing here lol). 

Aaric’s study skills are unmatched -- years of the best private tutors money can buy really paid off. Teaches you new strategies that you’ve never heard of in your life, and when you ask, he admits a bit shyly that he came up with it himself, but it works, and you get it done in half the time you would have before. (work smarter, not harder, baby)

Rhiannon gives you the pep talk of your life (we all need a Rhiannon in our lives) and convinces you that you’ve got this. Packs you a little snack for the day of your exam with a little note reminding you that you know this, just breathe and think. 

Xaden sees you struggling and forces you to take a break. During said break, he’s reading the book himself and figuring out what exactly has you so stressed and exhausted. Breaks down the tasks into smaller, more manageable steps and guides you through it -- “find three reasons why XYZ happened.” done with that? “Now make them into paragraphs.” etc etc, and an hour later, you have a passable essay. 

Dain is taking this more seriously than you are, and his discipline is like no other; you’re not stopping until the work is done, or until midnight, whichever comes first (because sleep is important for the brain, or whatever. Definitely not just because he misses you and wants to cuddle). 

Garrick may have no idea what you’re talking about, but he suffers through it with you, offering to let you explain things to him, because teaching is a good way to test if you understand something. Though you get what you pay for -- he’s a total smartass about it, asking questions about the littlest details even if they’re common knowledge -- he’s gotta be thorough, right? 

Ridoc may be the class clown type, but he’s smarter than a lot of people think. He comes up with a bunch of jokes that actually help you remember things. Somehow manages to relate the most complex topic in your book to a sandwich, and it actually works. He’s incredibly smug about this for the rest of the week, especially when you get the highest score in the class (he’ll take payment in kisses, thank you.)

Bodhi makes flashcards with you, quizzing you and giving you a kiss if you get it right (this definitely is not a distraction, and things definitely don’t escalate from here, nope.) He’s also really good at proofreading essays, and gives excellent feedback regarding the structure and the order of the information.

Liam sits there with you all the while, completely silent, working on one of his wood carvings at the other end of the table, but you know he’s there and he’s watching -- and that provides a healthy amount of peer pressure and keeps you on task. He’s an incredibly observant person, and he can see the stress building; he knows when to intervene and suggest that you take a break.

Sloane is the best person to commiserate with. She doesn’t want to be doing this either, but she’s also incredibly stubborn, and she doesn’t give up; after a healthy amount of complaining, she’s forcing you both to keep trying until it works / until it’s done, and then you’re treating yourselves to something for getting it over with, because you deserve it.

Sawyer is gentle and supportive, having a heart-to-heart conversation with you and reminding you that yes, this is important, but the world will not stop turning if you fail one exam. He knows how it feels to be compared to his peers, especially in how long it takes you to accomplish something (poor bb) and doesn’t want you stressing yourself out about that, either. 

Imogen is the opposite, all tough love, giving you gentle but firm reminders: “you didn’t make it this far just to give up,”, “I know you can do this, so do it,” but she balances it out with tender affirmation when you’re done. She’ll even let you skip out on training for the day since you’ve been studying so hard (and she takes training seriously, so this is more of a reward than it seems). 

Mira’s default approach is similar to Imogen’s, but she can see that you’re reaching your limit and dials it back, being more gentle with you and doing whatever you need -- encouragement? someone to just sit there? help / explanation / etc? she’s got you covered. herds you into bed at a reasonable hour so you’ll be well rested for the classes and exams.

And all of them are incredibly proud of you for working so hard and getting good grades 🤍

hi! loving your art. I was watching your awesome stories/gifs and I was wondering: how did Chang develop his feelings for Tintin? Did he discover them before or after him? How did he react and why? (English is not my first language so if you see a grammatical mistake, I'm sorry. Also, sorry if so many questions made you feel like you were in a philosophy exam)

Thank you so much! As a contrast to the rest of the Marlinspike team I'm writing Chang as someone who makes friends and develops crushes pretty easily!

I imagine he's had a crush on Tintin for some time, possibly from when they first met. He's been at the mercy of his circumstances for most of his life until that point - Tintin basically makes him feel capable of doing stuff.

He's pretty heartbroken after the Blue Lotus. Tintin doesn't contact him for years. Chang is struggling to adjust to his new family and is failing at school, having missed out on a good education for a few years prior. Until Tibet he feels pretty hopeless, he will never live up to the time when he took down a drug ring.

His near death experience in Tibet shakes him out of this rut. He starts to travel and take up hobbies like dance and photography. Didi trains him in some basic martial arts. Tintin makes an effort to actually stay in touch this time. Chang has some abandonment issues as he's frequently lost people throughout his life, so he's someone who's willing to give people second chances, even if they've hurt him badly. Chang thinks he's well over his crush on Tintin when he comes around to Belgium for his studies, but falls for him again very quickly!

Unlike Tintin, Chang is a lot more comfortable with who he is. He's used to being the odd one out and has generally low expectations for himself, so just goes with the flow.

Below I talk a little with how I'm going about writing him and the historical context surrounding this, cw for mentions of racism (sinophobia) and queerphobia:

I'm writing Chang as bi, I thought it would be interesting to explore as Asian men were perceived differently in the 30s compared to today. While Asian men in the West are currently heavily desexualised in the early 20th century they were stereotyped as predatory and deviant. In London a lot of Chinese immigrants were male dockworkers, so when they married white women there was a lot of fearmongering about predatory and disloyal Chinese men.

A lot of depictions of Asian men in Western media reflected these stereotypes (and often used queercoding to push the idea of Asian men being animalistic seducers - General Henry Chang in Shanghai Express (1932) was written to be bisexual while posing as a threat to the white leads). Some examples off the top of my head include Hishuru Tori from The Cheat (1915) and The Mask of Fu Manchu (1932). Novels frequently depicted Chinese drug lords with borderline supernatural powers in manipulation.

On the other hand I've noticed how fans frequently depict Chang as someone who's submissive, demure and soft, which ignores how ridiculously brave and proactive he is in canon (stealing documents from police officers, charging into a man immediately after getting shot at by a machine gun, I could go on!). It's a common example of Fandom Racism (not accusing anyone specifically, it's just a trend I've noticed.)

When writing Chang I'm kinda reckoning with two different eras. From a contemporary angle I'm writing him as a love interest, which as an Asian guy I rarely see in media today. I also gotta consider his own time and context, how he would navigate being a queer Chinese guy, and how that would affect his relationship with others and himself.

Your alarm went off again.

Four hours later you were sitting in one of the most boring classes you ever witnessed. While your professor was talking on and on about everything in the free market, you were more engaged with your phone. Or more likely with the conversation you were holding with Jungkook.

After the first chit-chat between all of you had died down, you and your friend opened your papers, while Jungkook brought up his laptop.

That’s a Macbook, don’t you have a deal with Samsung?”, your friend teased, earning an eye roll from Jungkook. “Private time”, he said, throwing her a wink.  You smiled at that, throwing the listening waitress a glare. She had come to your table three times in the last 30 minutes only having eyes for Jungkook. You had grabbed his hand at her second visit, cuddling closer to him by the third. Having other women thirst over your boyfriend was something you would never get used to.

“She still watching?”, he asked, as he looked at your gaze.

“Listening in, actually.”

“Just kiss him and she will probably die a painful death”, your best friend said, turning around and raising her eyebrow at her.

“Na, I just need her to understand, that he is not public inventory, that can be touched and looked at by everyone”, you said, while Jungkook kissed your head.

“Just ignore her. Let’s start with whatever we must do, to understand what was going on in that class.” You snort at that and pull up your documents. While you and your friend try to figure out what was going on in your class, Jungkook puts his headphones on and zones into his laptop. 

Two hours later you have a headache coming on, a friend who is more concerned with getting spoilers about your boys’ new music than studying, at least two Teenagers taking pictures every time you so much as graze your boyfriends’ skin and absolutely no patience anymore. “Want to go?”, Jungkooks mumbles into your ear, while munching on one of the donuts he ordered for all of you.

“We can stay if you guys want. I’m just tired from people right now, I guess”, you state, while smiling softly.

“Nah, i am ready to go too. Productivity is over for today – or do you want to tell me, what that beat was you were working on?”, your friend says, grinning at Jungkook. You bite back a grin, while Kook only rolls his eyes.

“No.”, he states and closes his laptop dramatically. “Let’s go.”

You say goodbye in front of the café, grab Jungkooks hand and start to walk to your flat. Jungkook keeps chattering about all the little things he sees while roaming the streets of Verona and you smile through all of it. Your boy always had an eye for the things other people would never notice and seeing his eyes light up is the most endearing thing you have ever witnessed.

When you reach your flat, you dig out your key and Jungkook holds the door open for you to cross. Throwing your backpack into the corner you put your stuff on the Table and sigh. 

“You good?”, Jungkook asks while hugging you from behind.

“Yeah, just tired..”, you say while snuggling back into him. You close your eyes, feeling him kiss your hair and breath in deeply. Giving your neck a quick kiss, he navigates you to the couch and pushes you down.

In the last three years you had seen him – and most of his members – in various mind states. High on new success, stressed out by the pandemic, totally overwork, carefree while dancing and drinking. You saw all the good and bad things but seeing him relaxed was your favorite thing in the whole world – well maybe the second favorite thing. Top of the chart would always be the smoldering looks he threw you here and there when you were out together. The hidden but lingering touches accompanied with a wink or a knowing grin – like right now. While the couple on the screen had just kissed for the first time, Kook leaned his head to the side and smirked at you.

"no! we gotta have fun tonight! i can't let anyone down!" you rebutted. your hand reached for the drink on the bar but your hand was trapped by rhysand's before you could. "hey!"

without a response or argument, rhysand began to tug and you didn't put up much of a fight (you were positive that one wrong move and your lack of coordination would land you on your butt on the floor). cassian looked at the two of you, making brief eye contact with rhysand and he nodded in understanding. something was wrong.

"where are we going?" you asked your partner after you stepped into the fresh air of velaris. despite it being so late, the city was quite alive with people, bikes, lights, music, and sounds. it was a beautiful sight, one that usually caught your breath, but there were more pressing matters. like why did rhysand take you away from your fun? the worries were just now being forgotten!

rhysand didn't answer your pestering but instead led you down some streets, up one incline, and landed at an old steel bridge that was at a high enough point to overlook the streets below. it was a spot you frequented when stressed but you didn't know that anyone knew. of course rhysand knew.

without having to say anything, you both perched on the edge of the bridge, wrapping your legs around the posts. your arms brushed against each other and with a few deep breaths, you felt the alcohol begin to leave your system as quickly as it came in.

"what's going on? you're drinking a lot, you seem stressed. i feel it. i don't even have to look in your mind to tell," rhysand said softly. his violet eyes shined in the night and though his gaze was strong, you couldn't help but fall into it.

you sighed and leaned your forehead against the cool metal of the bridge. the sounds of your city flooded your ears and it washed you with some calm that you were searching for. "i'm just stressed. there's so much on my plate, so much coming up, and i don't feel smart enough or good enough for any of it." just speaking the words out loud felt like a weight being taken off of your body. surgically removed and thrown hundreds of miles away.

"tell me about it," your partner said. he wouldn't get it, necessarily, but sharing the weight would help.

"there's three certification tests i have to take, all of which are unnecessarily hard. and that's just so i can get my license to teach. i still have four exams, all worth well over a hundred points, and i feel grossly underprepared for each and everyone one of them. then there's this theory class that's all about best practices in education and research and i feel like i'm picking up none of it," you expressed. "i don't feel like i am going to be the best i can be for velaris. i want to teach them but i'm struggling to pass my class. how am i supposed to impart all of this amazing knowledge on them when i don't even know it?"

your head fell forward onto the bar again and you relished in the soothing feeling of it. down below, music and laughter erupted from a rooftop bar. you wished you could know what rhysand was thinking.

"you know...i think you're the most intelligent person i ever met-"

"that's not-"

"ah! ah! no arguing," rhysand cut you off. "as i was saying...you are the most intelligent person i ever met. the capabilities you have far exceed anyone in the spring court and hewn city combined. the passion you have for our city and its education is so admirable, y/n. everyone will be so lucky to have you as their teacher. the fact that you committed to going to mortal college just to provide the small number of velaris children with a proper education proves to me that the cauldron picked the most perfect person to be my mate."

looking at onto your city, rhysand's words sunk in. somewhere in a back yard, high fae children laughed cheerfully, clearly excited to be up later than what would usually be allowed. it was hard work but work that you were more than excited to be doing.

with a sigh, you leaned into rhysand's side, grateful for him being your rock. "will you help me study for the praxis?" you asked quietly.

rhysand's head dipped down and planted a soft kiss on your forehead. "me and all of velaris will help you through whatever you need, darling. and we will be there at your graduation, glamoured and cheering."

- I’m going to say Computer Science SOLEY because my Com Sci friends always seem to hang out on campus?

- Like not even in class, idk why but Eren’s just constantly there??

- Hanging out in the cafe, lounging around the courtyard, bowling in the recreation room, etc. No one’s ever heard him say “I gotta go to class”

- The man acts as if he doesn’t have a class to go to

- Most of his work is actually just completed at night anyway, when he’s not out at parties or with friends he stays up all night doing his homework

- Doesn’t really talk much about his classes but he probably does really well in them actually

- He probably doesn’t have too many Com Sci friends because he’s a bit intimidating in class? Hood up and headphones usually in or around his neck?

- But somehow he’s a social butterfly outside of his major, knows someone from every single one of your classes somehow

- I feel like freshman year he probably went overboard with parties? By the time he’s a junior he probably eases up on them, opting to stay up late doing his classwork last minute

- He might work at the campus tech office helping repair laptops for students! It’s better than working at a coffee shop in his opinion

- Probably plays intramural sports like soccer? Volleyball? Just for fun, probably decent at most group sports

- “Just for fun” but gets mad at his friends when they don’t attend his games “Eren I had an EXAM” “Don’t care, you should have rescheduled”

JEAN:

- My college headcanons for Jean are lowkey inspired by this annoying kid from high school who grew up and became hot? We had a love hate thing for a while😌

- So I’m going to say Poli-Sci just for that? But also I think it would actually fit Jean a lot

- He wants to see change in the world and he won’t have much patience for hypocrisy or overall assholes

- “Oh you don’t like (political candidate)? You think they’re the antithesis of American ideals? Name one of their policies. What does it about?”

- He’s really good at figuring out which of his peers just seem to parrot back things they’ve heard, yk? Like the students who memorize a Ben Shapiro argument but then cannot comprehend or form their own opinion?

- I think he’d be super understanding and accepting of other ideas, and honestly do a really good job of explaining both sides of debates?

- Understands that a lot of people shy away from actually investigating their political ideas and values because it can be intimidating, so he’d love to just talk to you about things and he’d make it really easy to understand

- Honestly I think he’d be a really good college professor someday, I bet he’d consider that as a career path once he saw his classmates turning to him for help

- He would want to be involved with the student political field on campus, councils and boards to advocate for his peers— I’d even imagine his classmates recommend him to join the student council

- But he wouldn’t have time for that(‘: he needs his time away from school sorry

- That’s his excuse to go out with friends a lot and fuck around

ARMIN:

- Double major in History and Anthropology!!

- Takes the most specific but random history courses in hopes of “really developing a broad spectrum of historical context”

- I was a history major and I took a nonhuman/abstract history course? I think Armin would hate a course like that at first, but then it ends up becoming his favorite

- The concept of my course was that studying nonhuman history (like animals or nature) reveals a lot about the people who did the research? And what they were passionate about?

- I did my final research paper on Greenland Sharks and how they live for hundreds of years, and how I’m fascinated by them because I’m fascinated with mortality? And so my paper juxtaposed a race to find the “key to immortality” through Greenland Shark DNA, and the history of death and our conscious awareness of death… I think Armin would eat that shit up

- One of the students who goes into their professor’s office hours just to talk to them about their theses and concepts

- Keeps in touch with his professors after he graduates too!

- Volunteers at the Student Writing Centers to help other undergrads with their papers, just reads through them and gives them some feedback

- Also takes a few creative writing courses!! Might have a poem or short story published in the student-run literary journal! He frames his copies on the wall(:

- As far as off campus activities he probably is active in lot of clubs or groups! Especially things like DnD! He is the Dungeon Master for his campaign

- Architecture Major

- Have you ever seen those “Architecture Majors be like: I have a whole building due on Friday 💀”

- He’d get so offended by those omg?? “That’s literally not true” or “Ha ha it’s funny when you say that but I actually have a model building I need to make”

- But the mode is made out of foam board and toothpicks or something bro chill

- Probably has glue on his fingers like 24/7? Hates building models with a passion. Especially with their super quick curing glue?

- Might actually make Armin help out with his models since Armin paints DnD and Warhammer models??

- I think Porco would prefer the design aspects of architecture and not the hands on part as much

- Is on the school’s soccer team! So he is usually at practice after school

- Probably hogs a squat rack or a bench at the campus gym, sorry not sorry

- I mentioned this in my college Porco headcanon set but I think he’d also go on runs daily around campus in the morning

- Probably one of those guys who brings around a gallon jug of water or a protein bottle

- You can tell Porco is nearby when you hear the protein bottle shake shake shake shake shake (yk with that little metal ball in it)

REINER:

- Okay I struggled with this one but I think he’d start off as a anatomy/physical science major? But then might switch off and go into education 😭

- I just think he’d be a great elementary teacher okay

- At first he’d want to go in to become a Physical Therapist?? So he’s super knowledgeable on anatomy and physical training

- Also on the soccer team, maybe the captain even! He leads warm ups and he’s super observant when it comes to his teammates and their physical capabilities (makes them personal workout routines and Bert is the only one who follows it precisely)

- I think halfway through his sophomore year he realizes that being a physical therapist isn’t what he wants to do? It’s work he’s good at, but does he like it?

- So he switches to be an education major!

- Honestly I could see him becoming a gym teacher or a general primary teacher!!

- He’d be really honored with the opportunity to make a difference in kids lives

- Open to debate his ideas, but no one seems to want to 💀 he’s just a bit intense

- Probably one of those people who gets mad when his essay gets a B+ “I don’t think the Professor was able to comprehend my views, if he did he would have given me an A”

- As a Graduate Student he may teach a class to the undergrads and he’s super engaged with the content, and will just talk and analyze the stories for the class if they don’t participate??

- But he will not tolerate missing assignments

- As a philosophy minor he probably appreciates a lot of the history and context behind the philosophy

- Also probably laughs a bit at the pompous nature of most of his peers? Their whole “nobody understands life like I do” thing?

- Might secretly fuck with his peers by saying the most absurd and ridiculous things in a deadpan way to get them to agree with him “Dwelling on death is like thinking you need to shit soon, but not knowing when you need to go.” And then he waits and stares at them. “Yes, Levi, I agree completely”

- I think he’d be a columnist, or studying to be one? Journalism might have been a better route for him but I think he’d appreciate his courses on classical literature too much to not take them

- Might even take a creative writing course or two? Stays up all night in his apartment, under a poster that has the Ernest Hemingway quote: “There is nothing to writing. All you do is sit down at a typewriter and bleed”

ZEKE:

- Biochemistry loser nerd science man

- I always imagine him as a med student?? So if he’s not in biochem he’s already in med school, a couple years older than you!

- Probably wants to go into neurology or oncology, something intense!!

- I also think he would have taken a lot of history courses as an undergrad though? Enough that his advisor suggests he just gets a history minor

- I don’t know how this man has the time but he’s probably a research assistant for the chem labs or a TA for some of the history courses he liked taking

- He’d probably be a little pretentious about it, saying that TA-ing his history courses are the most relaxing part of his day

He's definitely gonna have either the worst grades you've ever seen or he's gonna be in the deans list ( honours list? depends where ya'll at) we all know how he talks in ingredients, but that's not gonna stop him from having a bunch of friends that hang out around him just for his aura yk. He's gonna be the sweetest boy and he'll remind you of a little cat. His handwriting, it's gonna be so cute. i feel like he has little stars on the Is instead of the usual tittle. he writes small and slightly cramped but it is so easy to read. When writing essays i feel like he'll have so many pages of all these tiny tiny words. I think he's definitely got an affinity for the sciences and maths. I think that there would definitely be many people who would be interested in him romantically, but he's only going to have eyes for one person. ( maybe i'll write a fic abt that ( x reader maybe ) )

Maki Zenin

def a girl boss. so proud and pretty. I think she would be a jock like yuuji but man shes got some of the best grades you'll ever see. she's gonna be really intimidating to everyone when she first introduces herself in class, but that isn't going to stop a bunch of guys from going up to her and being rejected ( lmao at their pain) her handwriting i think, would be like close to calligraphy. She's so extra like megumi but special in her own way, like her z's would be crossed. I think that she would be quite good at drama and acting but her preference would be in musical theatre, and hell she's good at it.

quiet boy reborn. Man, he's gotta be the most awkwardest boy you're ever gonna know, but he's also very shy and kind. Would not hesitate to beat someone up if they've hurt his friend. personally, he would be the one i would like to be friends with. His grades are above average for someone who doesn't spend a lot of time studying, and his friends get so annoyed about that. His handwriting would be cute and childish, but still really neat. I think that his laptop background would be a collection of images of his friends, like him and rika when they were really young, and everyone else is several different locations. When you first see it you instantly know he's a really good friend, and would cherish everyone. Gotta paint his nails. idk but i would want to so badly

he's practically the professor. Super serious, constantly asking questions and getting answers right. His exams results are like in the 99 percentile which is like insane. HE is so consistent with his grades, like damn bro what else you do with life?? He looks so tired and done with life half of the time or he's just sipping on his coffee. I think he drinks two cups of pure expresso in the morning and has a cup of tea for the rest of day, in his fancy little cup. His handwriting, i don't know how to describe it but it's like so extra. Definitely prioritises his handwriting over contents of notes but he does well either way.

Todo

you would never see him in class. He's got like some crazy excuses, but i swear you're not even aware he's in your class until you get paired up for something and he's like, "wanna meet up? if you get it wrong Im doing it myself" I think he would be so annoying to work with but like if you're friends with him he would actually be quite helpful. You would have no idea what his handwriting is like. He's never written a thing in his life for school and he's happy about that. He skips out on school a lot to go see the model meets like takada. No clue how he even passed high school if ur in uni together.

bro if i was in school or uni with this man i would instantly drop out. He's a fucking pain in the ass and i hate him sm rn. But i'm sticking to the head-cannon. His grades- probably pretty good, maybe like a genius or something but so irritating. His looks gain the attention of many girls, but his misogynistic and shitty personality pushes a lot of people away. He's a pain to work with for group projects, would totally run off and do the work himself and get everything wrong and blame everyone else for not doing anything when he wouldn't let you help. He's fine, but like not impressed with him. His handwriting would be old and traditional and if you live in japan, he would write in traditional Japanese. and practically no one knows what he's writing.

GITJ Post 309: Back to the Study Clinics, p1

That was one of the hardest things I’ve done in a while, just a few minutes ago, leave that beautiful, perfectly built woman alone, asleep in my apartment. There’s nothing I’d rather have done than snuck back under the sheets with Melissa and spend the rest of the morning - even after my pretty embarrassing loss of control against her as she slept. But, duty called and here I am - in the office. I had taken the chance to clean off what I could from Melissa’s remarkable behind, shower quick, and get dressed. Through the whole thing she basically slept, though she did give me a drowsy little kissy-face when I told her ‘bye, I’ve gotta go to work.’

“Yeah there are nights she barely sleeps at all,” Josie was explaining to me, as I readied myself in the hallway to go in to see our first study clinic patient for the morning, waiting in an exam room a few doors down. If you remember, our office had become an external study site for testing Evolution Pharmaceuticals new OTC dietary supplement for women as they looked for FDA approval. “And then there are times,” Josie finished, “where she’s, like, comatoast.”

“Comatose,” I corrected h-

“Yeah whatever,” she continued, pressing on. Josie, one of my new, poorly-trained medical assistants, had known Melissa a long time. Though younger than my new Office Manager by five years or so, I think, she understood her friend well and somehow in fact knew she was upstairs in my apartment sleeping off a night of vodka. That my staff knew my Office Manager had spent the night with me was a little embarrassing, a lot unprofessional, but just another small chip out of the armor of my professional dignity and male pride. “She can sometimes sleep for, like, two days straight,” Josie continued, readjusting her long, medium-brown hair in its ponytail, “especially if she gets really excited.” 

At that, I tried not to blush, or notice how - with her hands behind her head - Josie’s breasts seemed quite big today.

“Anything really exciting happen last night? This morning? Hm?” Josie then giggled, taking a second to adjust the strap of her bra through her thin blue scrubs. The ‘wink wink’ in her voice was plain to hear, and it brought flashes of memories, Melissa’s and my time together on the couch, and in bed. Josie seemed to know more than she should.

“Well, I think all you girls got a little excited at the bar last night, by the election results,” I began, loathe to start recounting the more lurid details of the evening to my young employee, “but, let’s get to work. Now, why are we doing this on a Wednesday, seeing study patients? Tell me again what that email said?”

“They said they’re fast-tracking everything, ‘cuz of the election results,” Josie explained, reaching out to readjust the two pens in the chest pocket of my new lab coat. The girls had ordered a few in smaller sizes for me. “Evolution needs us to see at least twenty a week now th-"

“Twenty? For real?” I remarked, the idea of it boggling my mind, which was already reeling after the election results, “that’s more than twice as many as we said would be doable when we started..!”

“Yeah I dunno…” Josie agreed, with a noncommittal shrug.

I huffed in my indignity, knowing I really had very little say in the matter at this point. Olivia, Sheryl, Gianna…they were the real decision makers with this thing; as much as I hated to admit it I was more a worker-bee at this point, a drone. The women who ran things at Evolution controlled the money, and - acutely aware of how my geriatric practice was suffering, how anemic it’d become under recent mismanagement - I knew we needed the cash.

“Anyway, who’s supposed to see this patient with me?” I began again, knowing that Josie was scheduled to assist my APRN Vida with Mr. Kowalski’s procedure down the hall, “And what’s this first patient’s name?”

“Her name’s Thalia, Thalia Bates. I don’t think you’ve seen her before. She started on treatment at Evolution. She’s the daughter of some politician guy, a senator from like Minnesota or Canada or something,”  Josie answered, handing me a chart, “and it’s Karen, the new nurse, who’ll be coming in with you. She’s worked with the patient before but I don’t think she’s here yet so-”

I opened the manila folder but just then both Josie and I turned our heads to see Angie, one of the girls from accounting, step out of one of the study exam rooms down the hall, the one where my patient awaited, and scoot quickly away in the opposite direction. She was shoving something into her purse. 

I saw Josie’s eyes narrow. She pulled out her phone, started a text.

“Anyway, I really have to get started so if you’ll excuse me…” I announced, snapping the patient’s chart closed and moving towards the room. I was a little confused why an accountant would be in a room with a patient but whatever. 

“Wait wait,” Josie stopped me, actually stepping towards me as I approached the room, “I didn’t think you were supposed to see these patients alone, by yourself? Karen’s not here yet?””

“It’s fine,” I replied, entering the room. With my first breath my vision began to swim. Spots, patterns appeared on the walls, straight lines and vines warped and everything in my world suddenly became focused on one thing…

“Hi doctor,” the hyper-developed teen seated in a chair across the small room from me chirped, “I’m Thalia…”

My March Spring Prompts! I’m really enjoying doing them this month. I’ve been trying to include as many different Pedro and Oscar characters as possible with some connecting drabbles. 🥰

A sample of part two of "The Lake between Us" (Thank you all for enjoying part one, I didn't quite expect such a response for it. Should I make a tag list for it? 🤔) Ezra AU x plus size OFC - name in future parts:

Things were tenuous at first but they worked out she’s to call him ‘Uncle’ or Mr. Ezra. It worked better in social situations and she became his little ‘Birdie.’ Scaling down the jobs he took on to mitigate risk was a challenge and were worth less but he had to live not only for himself now. The pair moved around some before he enrolled her in school in Louisiana but ensured that he taught her when she came home in the evenings and on the weekends. The child hated the extra lesions, but it enabled her to be leagues ahead of her peers as far as studies went. Ezra was determined not to suffer another fool and would do what he could so that Cee wouldn’t follow in her father’s steps of idiocy. The results of his care, diligence and support was realized at both her high school graduation which he had never imagined attending anyone’s graduation except his own and to travel with his charge to see the college she’d chosen.

Santiago saw a woman by herself lost in the music, the glow from her skin from perspiration. He didn’t see a reason why he shouldn’t make his way over to her so he did, but he waited until she opened her eyes again and was surprised by him. She laughed and apologized where he told her there was no reason to. Holding his hands out, she peered down and slid her fingers along his palms. The last song died down and the next started, it was slower, sensual, intimate. Garcia interlocked his fingers with hers as they moved back and forth, step by step. His eyes met hers, pulling one of her hands toward him and placing it on his shoulder. His palm found a place on her hip as his lips skimmed her forearm up to her shoulder, pulling her closer. They didn’t say anything as they moved in sync. Once the music ended this time, they stepped outside so they could hear each other speak. By the time they finally exchanged phone numbers, the club was emptying out and Amalia looked toward her friends as did Santiago. The pair had spoken about the dancing, club, food, drinks, if they were single, music and a few bad jokes. Well, between the both of them, quite a few bad jokes. 

My third WIP is one that I choose to blame @mysterious-moonstruck-musings since she fancies herself a sweet Dieter. So I gotta deliver because this is what she wants apparently. 🤭 I have vibes and two paragraphs at this point. Basically, you meet Dieter through one of his PA (because he's got 4 or 5 personal assistants who keeps track?) and he finds drawn to you? Was it crocs? Was it pizza? Was it a two am dance party to Paramore and Linkin Park? Maybe it was all of them or something else entirely? I'll work it out.

My last WIP is one I've been kicking around for a bit. It's a WIP I have with Marcus Pike. I've been dabbling him after a shooting or passing his firearm recertification exam and having PTSD (because I haven't tortured a Pedro character recently 👀) This one is also vibes, still working it out. I started mentioning therapy in my March prompts and it snowballed into this WIP.

So I've recently made a new AO3 account (completely separate from my main one, different email and everything lmao) bc I want to start writing porn, and I was wondering if I could have your permission to use some of your asks as like, prompts or ideas? Especially ones that were my own (this is PP!Tim Anon btw, and I've sent in. A lot of asks without signing them off as that, like I could make an entire list and it would probably hit double digits of which asks you've gotten that were mine lmao)!! I would ofc credit you and your blog! I really wanna try my hand at some random, filthy oneshots without a bunch of world building or context, bc that's something I tend to get hung up on in my writing, and I wanna stick to some short and sweet smut oneshots about Tim being a pregnant, underage nympho slut, or a puppy factory, or a cocksleeve for the rogues of Gotham and their goons, all that good stuff!!

On that thought tho, do you have any pieces of advice for like, consistent writing, or motivation to write? Bc that's my biggest struggle tbh is sitting down to start writing. Usually once I start I can churn out a couple thousand words in one sitting, but I gotta start first, ya know? Any words of wisdom would mean a lot ❤️❤️❤️

yes of course❤️❤️❤️!!!!!!!!!!!! you don't believe how happy that makes me to hear!!!! so many of the asks i get sent are just so brilliant and well done and it would make me so beyond happy to know people started writing or got inspired to write out their ideas!!! and i'm sure that people who submitted other posts you get inspiration from would love to see others expand further on their asks ❤️❤️❤️❤️!!!

one shots are a really great way to really get back into a sort of groove of writing because it can be shorter, the plot may be not as dense or complex as something from a multichap (though you can also write VERY long one shots that are incredibly detailed too), and it can be mainly composed of "fun" writing in the sense that you don't have to do buildup for bigger things like you would in longer multichaps or those that are heavily plot driven. i totally get struggling to get motivation to write, for me it was always like i had to wait for my brain to be turned "on" or in a working mode for me to get any writing for my fics done which meant it usually only happened when i was studying for exams or doing projects for school. however for me that meant when i was in the 'off season' like breaks from school it meant that even though i had time, i no longer had motivation to write. that's something i'm still working to break myself out of and i think one think that is pretty effective is thinking of a scene or piece of dialogue i'm excited to write and look forward to getting to so it motivates to write to reach it. that works sometimes, other times i think of a reward i'll get myself once i finally finish. something like candy or some snack or food i don't often get or go out of my way to get. and another thing that works for me sometimes is basically planning the fic, for a short one shot the major bullet points of what happen would be a short list and so it would pretty much trick your brain into thinking 'wow a short task list i can do all of these pretty quickly/complete them without too much hassel or procrastination!'.

ultimately i think writing one shots takes a lot of pressure off since as a single chapter there's basically no further commitment needed like it would during a multi chapter fic which can be very relieving for people who get easily stressed or pressured by commitments with no hard deadline.

not too much at all! obviously my word is not the end all be all but i can tell you what my experience has been so far.

law school is hard, but it also isn't. it's a crapton of reading, first off. one class could give you fifty pages of reading that need to be read by the next day. professors will post a syllabus/schedule so you can try and read ahead and you might for a while, but it's impossible to be on top of everything all the time. i've already seen breakdowns and had breakdowns, and i've been in law school for all of (checks watch) two and a half months. since classes grade pretty much only on final exams and maybe midterms, anyone like me who relied on always getting their homework done on time and participation to keep their grades up will be miserable.

you need to carve out time. a lot of time. you may think it'll take you two hours to do one reading—it'll take four hours at least. but if you give yourself that time, for reading, for studying, for practice questions, you'll stay above the surface. your social life is gonna die a little. not as terribly as i imagine med students' lives do, but you can't see your friends every week. you can't spend time with your family every week. you can't indulge in your hobbies every week.

extracurriculars are....also not the same as undergrad. there's no joining theatre club or creative writing or anime club as a way to destress after classes and turn your mind off from your studies. every club is a law society of sorts and they all do pretty much the same thing—if they're a diversity group of some kind, they'll plan things around that identity (i've seen henna+study! and destress+dragbingo! events from the south asian and gay straight alliance law societies respectively). they'll offer outlines from students who have already taken the classes you're taking. they'll give you an idea of how it feels to be an upperclassman and good advice on what to do to survive your first year (and their advice helps a lot more than teachers). mostly every club requires dues. the big clubs are any advocacy progams, like mock trial or moot court, and if you compete in those your life will get harder because you do have to put in the work to succeed in those competitions.

i have terrible adhd, executive dysfunction, procrastination problems, focusing issues, whatever you wanna call it. i'm writing this in class right now. i usually can't focus in class and have to do most of my learning outside of it. the reading IS important. what's also important is looking at outlines made by people who took the same class AND had the same teacher. doing practice problems, talking to at least one other classmate to try and understand things (study "groups" are a little overhyped, they're not as deadly necessary as everyone says they are. just have at least one person in every class that you can confer and sit down with sometimes.)

law students are pretentious! unfortunately. i'm not in a super diverse area, so i'm one of four or five south asian girls in my section of `70 people. many people talk like they are god's gift to the world. and many people don't and are completely chill. everyone is struggling, though. everyone has a weak spot and everyone seems to some extent have imposter syndrome. if you do get into law school, you gotta remember you got in. on your own merits. no one is smarter or dumber than you, just different.

classes themselves are interesting. your first year your classes are decided for you so you can take all the basic classes you need to study more advanced stuff. and things will surprise you. i thought civil procedure just by its name sounded incredibly boring. but it's not! i wouldn't pursue a career in it, but seeing cases succeed or fail based on technicalities and guidelines is fasinating to me. your legal writing class will make you do research on things you don't know about, and suddenly you're kind of an authority on them! (don't debate a lawyer, but, y'know, throw some big words around your friends and family.)

it feels so good when things click. when you've studied for two hours and suddenly you figure this shit out, it's like a whole new world just opened up for you. it's incredibly satisfying to answer questions correctly. don't worry about memorization as much as you should worry about understanding, exams can be open book and if they're not professors will know they're not and will not make them rely just on your memory.

SO. all in all. law school is tough, much tougher than undergrad, everyone around you knows it's tough, and if you think you can do hours of reading at a time, write in a way you've never written before (cite. after. every. assertion.) and isolate yourself away from everything and everyone to focus on your studies, then go for it. don't think it's for super super smart people, it's not. don't think you need to know the law or the constitution or anything to apply, you don't. if you're a fan or argument, or persuasion, or even etymology, you could do really well at law school.

as for right now, i've been a really big fan of the band lovejoy and have been for a long time, the same way that a lot of their fans have been around for a long time - the lead singer of the band is also a twitch streamer/youtuber...!!

i've been keeping up with his solo music before he formed lovejoy with his bandmates and its been amazing to see how not only the lead singer has grown with his music, but the band overall..!! they're very very cool and i really like their sound. they're awesome in concert too.

blehhh well i do philosophy (and religious studies too, actually! joint degree) at a UK university so.... really um. yeah.

it's not the most riveting experience ever. sure, it's pretty interesting but really you're just sitting watching a lecturer talk in front of a powerpoint a few times a week and then you're made to actually read all the other information by yourself. for way too long.

as someone who (as previously mentioned) sucks at reading for the most part... yeah...!! it's an experience.

it's not like i didn't expect it. the grades are based on a typical UK idea of half being essay and half being an exam, for the most part.

it's definitely an experience...!!! trust me, i am only doing this so that i can teach the subject (RMPS to be specific, meaning 'religious, moral, philosophical studies) at high schools. if i was doing this without a career choice in mind i would be going craaazy

Selecting the Optimal Product for my Venture Proposal

Starting your own business is like riding a rollercoaster - exciting and nerve-wracking all at once! But before you jump in, you gotta pick the perfect service or product to offer. Here's how I narrowed down my business idea, from figuring out what people need to what would work best for me. Check out the three options I considered: delivery service, printing services, and lastly, a yummy baked goods business. First Idea: Delivery Service

Deliveries at school seemed like a surefire hit at first. Everyone's busy with classes, orgs, and side hustles, so who wouldn't want food or groceries delivered straight to their dorm? It sounded perfect - convenience for students and extra cash for me. But after thinking it through more, some problems popped up. Finding reliable riders who know the campus well and can handle tight schedules wouldn't be easy. Plus, dealing with all the different cafes and stores for deliveries could be a major headache. Even though there's clearly a need, all the complications of running a delivery service made me look at other business ideas that would work well for students like us. Second Idea: Printing Services

Printing services for our school felt like a no-brainer at first. Every semester, everyone's scrambling to print reports, projects, or even notes for that upcoming exam. Imagine the convenience - a quick print shop right on campus! It seemed perfect - students wouldn't have to travel far, and I could make a profit. But after some thinking, some downsides came to mind. Setting up all the printers and ink cartridges would require a decent investment. Plus, finding a good location with enough space and dealing with potential maintenance issues could be tricky. While the demand for printing is definitely there, the start-up costs and potential headaches steered me towards exploring other business ideas that might be a better fit.

Final Proposal: Baked Goods (Brownies)

Out of all the business ideas I brainstormed, baking and selling brownies on the university felt like the sweetest deal! University life can be stressful, and who doesn't love a delicious pick-me-up during a study break or after a long exam?

This idea had major perks:

It didn't require a huge investment to start.

I could bake them myself.

Everyone loves a good brownie!

Plus, with so many students on campus with busy schedules and sweet tooths, I knew there would be a ready market for my treats. It seemed like a fun and delicious way to make some extra cash while spreading a little bit of sugary happiness around campus!

Conclusion

Choosing the perfect business idea is like a learning adventure! After brainstorming delivery services, printing shops, and even baking, I realized brownies were the sweetest deal. Sure, other ideas had their perks, but brownies checked all the boxes.

Starting a new venture is never easy, but with thorough research, careful consideration, and a willingness to adapt, finding the right product can be a fulfilling and successful endeavor.

4. Movie of the year?

This is hardddd. I'm deciding not to limit this to films that came out this year, but rather films I've watched for the first time in 2023. Despite that, Barbie has gotta be a clear choice - I adore Greta Gerwig, and it's been a long time since I left a cinema with as much elation as I did after watching this. It lived up to my expectations as someone who grew up with Barbie dolls and movies, and I think it's far more important than simply the trend it was turned into.

I'd also like to mention Women Talking, which I watched for the first time this year despite it coming out in 2022. Every. Single. Performance. by the actresses in this movie deserved awards. The conversations and questions this film raised about religion, patriarchy, and power are incredibly important, and I'm so mad this movie pretty much fell off the radar as soon as awards season was over because it deserves to have an enduring influence.

6. Episode of tv or webisode that defined the year for you?

This is another really hard question, but I think if I had to choose a single episode of anything I watched this year it would be The Bear, Season 2 Episode 7, 'Forks'. This idea that it doesn't matter who you are - where you're at in your life, what mistakes you've made in your past - you CAN come back and find something to be passionate about. Seeing Richie, a character who made so many mistakes in the first season of the show, seize the opportunity to work on himself and find something he really loved doing, even when he thought he was too old to reinvent himself, was so deeply heartwarming.

Honourable mention to 'Long, Long Time' from The Last Of Us. Everyone who saw it will know why.

Everything's gonna be fine. I had a huge year this year, with exams and starting university, and I knowww the Helena that existed at the start of 2023 was a stressed, overworked wreck with some pretty heavy academic burnout. But everything was fine. Your exams went well, you did what you needed to do, you made it into the university you wanted, and now you're studying what you've always loved surrounded by passionate and supportive people, and everything is exactly as you wanted it to be.
