You half growl to yourself and kick off the covers.
This was getting ridiculous.
You were beyond horny â you were desperate for some relief but everytime you got close to that sweet, sweet edge of ecstasy, you were viciously pulled away. Either there was a delivery, or phone call, something that snapped your mind our of fantasy and back to reality. Sometimes it was your own mind sabotaging you; you forgot the washing again, that very important work thing you had. Things that only added to your stress and frustration. Always  Ruining what would have been a perfect orgasm.
Youâd been without a partner for a while now, and at first it was great. You and your fingers or vibrator were happy as a clam. However, the insatiable need of physical touch became overpowering. You didnât want the torturous, laborious process of getting to know someone before trusting them enough to reveal some of your kinks for them to either break it off or judge you. Although it would be nice to have someone to share your bed with, once in a while.
You huffed, tugging your sweat pants back on, and heading to the bathroom to wash your hands. You needed to do something or someone and soon. You head back to your laptop, your coffee cold and uninviting, grumbling as you answer emails. Itâs not long before your mind wanders, taunting you with thoughts and daydreams of utter filth. You glance to your phone.
Surely, there has to be a website for your sort of fantasies right? You see comments on reddit and porn sites so â surely â thereâs a site where you could at least talk through your fantasies?
You pick up your phone and begin to type; work abandoned. After forty minutes of searching you find a site, agreeing to terms and conditions and set up a log in; using a faceless image of yourself in your favourite bra. Writing out your biography is a strangely freeing feeling. Openly listing kinks and things youâd like to try; things youâd never, ever tell a random person youâd meet face to face. Its not long before youâre browsing through posts and you can feel the familiar bubble of excitement build. You bite your lip.
Itâs a dangerous game but you consider making a post, laying out what you need. You remind yourself of digital footprints but God â you need some form of release that maybe this will help. So you write. Itâs not a New York Times Bestseller, but itâll do. You re-read it, ironing out any spelling mistakes or especially bad grammar and hit the post button. You stare as it publishes your content and sigh softly. Youâre not sure how to feel.
âI can always delete it in a few days,â you tell yourself, setting your phone face down and looking back to your laptop. âYeah. I could always do that.â
Youâre running errands a week later when your phone buzzes with a notification. You dismiss it and shrug it off, continuing to walk down the street with your tote over your shoulder. It was a warm day, a deliciously cool breeze in the air and youd taken the time and effort  to make yourself up. A cute summer dress that was almost a little revealing, your favourite strawberry lip gloss and make up to exentuate your favourite and best features and your hair, your hair, was just perfect today.
It still didn't stop the ache from your clit though. That was the only downside.
You reached around the snacks in your tote bag to find the keys to your home but your key wouldnât turn. You frowned a little and try the handle. The front door swung open to an empty apartment. You shiver slightly.
âMustâve forgot to lock it. Damn.â You murmur to the hallway as you step inside. You turn to lock the door and when the bolt slides home, a gloved handovers your mouth and youâre yanked backwards into a broad, hard chest. You yelp as youâre pulled, legs wobbling but another large hand appears at your hip, holding you steady against your aggressor.
âWelcome home,â a deep voice rumbles from behind you, breath hot on your neck and wisps of facial hair tickling the shell of your ear. You go to make a noise, but the hand encompassing your jaw squeezes hard.
âAh â ah â ah,â the voice chides teasingly and you can hear the smirk in his voice. âI donât want you screaming just yet.â
It was like someone had poured ice down your spine. You were spun around and early marched down the short hallway  and into the kitchen, your tote ripped from your shoulder and tossed somewhere â you didnât really care, you were to busy thinking about what would happen next. Marched to the countertop, your aggressor pushed your head flat against the surface, nestling a strong leg between your thighs to stop you trying to make a hasty attempt at escape while a free hand bound your wrists behind your back with what felt like zipties, biting into your skin agonisingly. He made an approving humming sound, and although you couldnât quite see him, you could feel his eyes roaming over you. Gloved hands ghosted from your knees, to your thighs and to your ass, giving it an appreciative squeeze as the skirt of your dress was lifted over your hips. You felt yourself flush with a mixture of fear and embarassment, knowing your lace panties were being admired.
âAll this for me? You shouldnât have.â
You wriggled feebly, which earned you a harsh smack to on ass cheek, making you squeak with shock. You kick your legs out, earning another, harder smack to your other cheek. This time you cry out, and you hear the voice chuckle.
âBehave, sweetheart,â you hear a belt buckle clink behind you and freeze up. âOr donât. I donât really care.â
You whimper when you feel a finger run down to your clit over your panties and you flush again when you feel your legs practically vibrate at the sensation. Another chuckle from the man behind you.
âOh, sweetheart. Here, let me help.â Â
You feel your panties slowly and tauntingly slide down over your ass cheeks, your voice dying in your throat the hot flesh between your legs met the cool air of your kitchen. Â You can feel your panties hang loosely around your ankles and thereâs a tap against your leg from a polished shoe. On instinct you raise your foot.
âGood girl,â purrs the voice, tapping your other leg with his foot. You repeat the motion, raising your other leg. Thereâs a dramatic sigh as the man leans over, swiftly sweeping your panties from the floor. You whimper when he leans over your body, pressing you into the counter. Your bones cry in agony with the pressure and you bite your lip to keep any sort of noise slipping out. Which is futile when a large hand knots in your hair, pulling your hair by the root, forcing you to crane your neck back uncomfortably to look at the man behind you. Tears sting at your eyes but you say nothing, focusing intently as predatory blue eyes bore into you. You can see a playful sneer tugging at his lips beneath a groomed moustache, contorting a handsome face into a dangerously seductive one.
âHey, pretty girl. Nameâs Lloyd. I need you to remember that, got it?â
You donât think youâd be able to forget it anytime soon but you nod anyway, keeping your teeth firmly pressed against the softness of your lips as you look back at him with glassy wide eyes. His smile widens and he pats your right ass cheek gently.
âGood girl,â He praises, raising your panties to your mouth. âOpen wide, pretty girl.â
Your heart beats wildly as you comply, feeling the thick gloved fingers shove the flimsy material into your open mouth. Shame floods you as you feel the dampness of your excitement touch your tounge â this should not turn you on as much as it does. Lloyd takes in your expression, and looks pleased.
âYou look good with your mouth full, sunshine.â He teases, squeezing your ass cheek with his free hand before moving to your aching core. Your moan is suppressed by your panties and Lloydâs fingers in your mouth. Lloyd slips two fingers into your desperate hole with ease, sliding them in and out torturously slow, smirking down at you as your eyes flutter and your legs shift. He teases and flexes his fingers inside of you, spreading and stretching you open with a delicious burn that had you keening around the fingers in your mouth.
âShit,â He gasps tauntingly. âYouâre already soaked. You donât need the warm-up.â
Your eyes go wide when you feel his cock run over your folds, gathering the slick that had built up between your thighs. You make a muffled sound of protest that evolves into a long moan as Lloyd sheaths his cock into your throbbing cunt. Your eyes roll back and Lloydâs fingers move from your mouth to wrap around your throat, squeezing your windpipe lightly and pulling you backwards so youâre flush against his chest.
âThatâs it, pretty girl.â He coos huskily into your ear, âTake it.â
The hand in your hair moves to your hip, keeping you still as he starts to thrust into you. Lloydâs moustache tickles at your throat when he trails kisses along the back of your neck, the grip from his hand squeezing so tightly you feel lightheaded. But damn, if it doesnât feel good. Your pussy grips his cock making Lloyd grunt into your ear, thrusting harder into you. You mewl around your panties, trying to shift your tied hands to no avail.
Lloyd groans as he feels your slick walls flutter around him, milking his cock so well, so quickly. A gloved finger hooks part of your panty and tugs it free from your mouth, throwing to the floor with a wet thud. You take a huge gulp of air before Lloydâs hand is back around your throat again.
âWho does this pussy belong to?â He growls, tugging your neck back forcefully. You yell out, back arching along with your neck as your hips slam mercilessly against the countertop.
âY-You!â You cry out, gasping for air when he releases your throat to let you speak. Lloyd clicks his tongue, squeezing your throat again.
âNo, no, sweetheart,â he chides, voice low. âGet it wrong again and Iâll have to spank you. Now, letâs try again. Who does this pussy belong to?â
He releases your throat again but this time you almost scream his name. âLloyd! I-it belongs to yo-â
âThatâs right, baby!â Lloyd interrupts you loudly, cutting off your air supply once more. He fucks into you mercilessly, and youâre sure youâve got Bruises on your hips, but you donât really care. Lloydâs sneer against your neck with filthy praises falling from his lips make your head spin and you donât even notice that youâre cumming over his cock until he releases your neck to let you scream.
âOh, look at you.â He huffs, continuing the unrelenting pace, loving the feeling of your soaked cunt around him and the way your legs are shaking. âDoinâ so well for me sweetheart. I think Iâm gonna have to keep you.â
You whine pitifully, pleasure blurring your brain as you nod along to his words.
âFuck, youâd like that?â Lloyd groans. His hips stutter for a moment but when he starts to fuck you again, itâs sloppier and less focused. âYouâd like to be all mine?â
âOh â yes!â You half-sob, eyes rolling to look up at the ceiling as you feel your pussy spasm; close to cumming yet again. That spasm is what sends Lloyd over the edge, pinning you in place with his hands on your hips as he coats your walls with his cum. You follow soon after, again, squeezing him for everything he can give.
Your breathing is shallow but you tell when cool metal slips against your wrist, freeing your from the ties. Your hands fly out to grab the counter, steading yourself as you catch your breath.
âWell, sunshine, this was fun.â Lloyd comments nonchalantly as he removes himself from you lazily, prolonging the feeling of his cock slipping from you before giving your ass a pat. âBut Iâve got a job nearby â shouldnât be too long.â
You push yourself up onto your elbows and blink a few times. You glance over your shoulder to see him shoving himself back into his pants quickly. He gives you a wink and a smirk that has a blush creeping up your neck.
âDonât give me that look,â He says waggling a finger jokingly at you. âIâll be back later for another round. Or three.â
You nod, still a little shell-shocked and ruminating in post-orgasm bliss. Maybe that website wasn't half bad after all.

i got like 80 pages in and then just,,, could not continue. no shade if u liked this book it was just solidly, solidly not my thing.
my monster valentine - various authors - 3/5
debated putting this on here for obvious reasons but i neeeeed to be accurate i guess. i only read about half of the stories in this collection and they were pretty hit or miss. it was free though so yk. vibes.
high spirits - camille gomera-tavarez - 2.5/5
this book was pretty alright! i don't have much to say about it (hence the middling rating) but i would reccomend it if you're looking for a fast read :D
the coldest touch - isabel sterling - 4/5
THIS WAS SO CUUUUTTTTTEEEEE!!! i liked the way the author portrayed the genuine hell that being stuck at 17 would be. please get me out of here i want a fully developed frontal lobe. AW and all of the characters were super likable. truly so adorable i was squealing the whole time.
im knocking a point off for the romance being a littttllllleeeee rushed and the character descriptions feeling off (it felt odd that both pov characters categorized every single person into a specific race? i think its good practice to make a characters race clear, but idk if that applies to a random teacher with no dialogue). to be so real though i loved this book enough that it didn't bother me too much.
beastly & bookish - catrina bell - 5/5
did i finish this book in one sitting? yes. did i stay up until 1am doing that? ...mind your business. honestly, im maybeee being a little bit generous giving this 5 stars but !! i really liked it!!! rom was soo mecore. i'm excited to read the rest of the books in this collection (even though they're all christmasy), and i can't wait for my physical copy to get here!!
holly's unjolly christmas - lark green - 2/5
this book was truly just fine. like, the definition of pretty alright. the tropes weren't my thing and the romance felt wildly rushed, but the writing style was easy to read and there were some funny bits. i also felt like the demon characters fell pretty flat? idk felt mid overall. (tbh the highlights of this book were when rom and noelle showed up. my babiesssss)
holidays ablaze - lucy limon - 3/5
v cute đ i love samite he's so autistic đ
last months goal: finish dune
hmm ok. so i did not finish dune. i don't know why i thought i could. whatever possessed me to believe i could finish an 800 page sci-fi book in one month was truly of the devil herself. what the fuck. that was a blatant temptation towards hubris and I FELL FOR IT. anyways i hit 300 pages. everyone clap.
this months goal: finish a re-read
i have a lot of books i'd like to re-read but!!! i just never get around to it!!!! there r always newer shinier books that grab my attention!! i'd also like to carve away a more sizable chunk of my physical tbr this month because i have officially run out of space on my bookshelf TwT. everything is so so crammed in there, i truly cannot afford any more physical books. public library here i come!!

Helloo i saw a tweet you made saying you recently watched a bunch of gay animes and i was wondering if you could perhaps make a list and post them on twitter? I'm always looking for anime to watch and i know your tastes align with mine. If it isn't too much of a bother perhaps? I hope you have loveky days!!!â¤â¤â¤â¤
Hey friend! I put off answering this, sorry, because my answers tend to be unnecessarily long and I was v tired when I got the original message. But if youâre still interested, hereâs a lil rundown of some of what Iâve been watching/reading. In reference to this tweet, where I was watching a show that definitely isnât gay but is kinda gay if you just squint the tiniest bit, which Iâve gotten used to doing.
If you follow me on twitter, most of these proooobably wonât be new? But I talk about/RT things on a scattered basis, so maybe there are some you havenât checked out yet.Â
So, the canonical gay! Iâm only going to list the ones I liked and/or remember most - my Quest For Gay Anime started two years ago, and I watched pretty much everything I could get my hands on, but at that point, there were only a few I loved enough to rewatch/buy/recommend. The list has gotten a little longer since then, unfortunately for my attention span and wallet.
(Iâll be honest, a lot of the really popular/older BL have too many consent issues for my tastes - I understand the context and all that, and no hate on anyone who loves stories that didnât particularly appeal to me. But Iâm including this note cause (a) if I donât put a really well-known BL anime on this list thatâs probably why (b) Iâm gonna drop in a few that toe that line but Iâll try to include warnings where relevant.)
ANIME FAVES
DOUKYUSEI (Classmates)
This is kinda where it all started. I saw a tweet going around with a trailer for a very soft, lovely movie about two boys falling in love, and I thought whaaaaat an actual gay story? Where they kiss? And I donât have to just imagine it??
Still one of my top faves. Itâs beautifully animated - like filming watercolors? It always makes me feel languid and happy. The story and characters are realistic, in a very kind, hopeful way, as these two navigate starting a relationship that neither of them expected. Itâs available on Amazon video - I own a digital copy there, hah, as well as the physical blu-ray, because I watch it often enough to want both.
I also recommend the manga, although Iâve only recently discovered that apparently the story did not end after the first three volumes, so I can only recommend that far. (Iâve heard it, unfortunately, gets angstier, and itâs still incomplete? The first three volumes feel complete to me, so Iâm happy to leave it there if so.)Â
The movie pretty much covers the first manga volume - itâs a very accurate page-to-screen translation - and thereâs some really wonderful relationship building and exploration of family dynamics in the next two volumes.
HITORIJIME MY HERO (My Very Own Hero)
Another huge favorite that I have literally watched like 30 times at this point. Two gay couples, double the fun, although this pairing is by far my favorite.
Iâll direct you to my very long post on this topic for more information, but the short version is:
Warning: there is an age gap and student/teacher relationship, but itâs treated very thoughtfully and is directly addressed as part of the story. They have to navigate through how to make their relationship work (issues with friends, coworkers, society). And they didnât meet as student/teacher - itâs a lot more complicated, with some fantastic family dynamics. Thereâs a lot of angst to Setagawaâs backstory that makes you really appreciate the happiness and love he finds with Kousuke & his whole family. (Many more details in my watch-this-anime post.)
The series is 12 episodes long, with a WONDERFUL (happy) ending that makes me cry LITERALLY EVERY SINGLE TIME. Gosh I love this show a lot. It packs some serious feels - I cry, I laugh, I cry again, but for happy reasons.
Itâs from a manga, but I do not recommend the manga. The manga falls into a lot of the tropes that I personally donât like; I think the anime does a much better job of tackling the complexity of their story and treating these two with the thoughtful nuance they deserve.
Can be found on Amazon; I bought the blu-ray, and itâs one of the exceedingly rare cases where I love both the sub and the dub. There are slight differences in translation that really makes it worth watching both.
GIVEN
Wow, this one. Available on Crunchyroll, 11 episodes with a movie coming soon.
Itâs newer to my list, and itâs really, really good. Iâve only read the first two volumes of the manga so far (with two more on preorder), because tbh I have trouble reading scanlations online and find it a lot more enjoyable to just wait for the official translations in paperback form.
So far the anime lines up pretty closely with the manga, so I do recommend both, although at this point I enjoy the anime more - partly because of some of the choices they make in rearranging/expanding scenes, and partly because itâs a story about a band, so it makes a huge difference to be able to actually hear the music.
And Mafuyuâs song is worth it. Wow. I listened to it on repeat for like two weeks after the episode first aired.
Uenoyama (the dark-haired stern-looking heart-of-gold character, I have a type), is my favorite. He is a MASSIVE disaster gay, and a lot of his scenes are absolutely hilarious. The dynamics between the characters arenât what youâd expect - itâs amazing to watch the seemingly quiet Mafuyu come out of his shell and display his true personality - and thereâs some really gritty, emotional material, too.
Whatâs fascinating about this one is that there are parallel stories going on about past loves and heartbreak, and how truly loving (and losing) someone doesnât mean you canât find happiness again.
(Warning and a spoiler: there is a suicide that happens before this story starts - Mafuyuâs ex-boyfriend - and while nothing about it is graphic, that event is central to Mafuyuâs story, so there are some weighty episodes. It ultimately leads to him meeting Uenoyama and joining the band. And finding himself again.)Â
The movieâs gonna focus more on the secondary couple, but Iâm still excited to see more of them! And...more angst, I imagine, but hopefully a lot more happiness as well.
SARAZANMAI
Okay, fair warning: this show is weird.
I think if youâre familiar with Japanese folklore, particularly kappas, you might have a much better intro than I did, but considering the creator laughed about how much they got away with by hiding the weirder parts of the story during the initial pitch, I...am not sure about that.
Itâs weird but I liked it a lot. Iâm not even going to attempt to explain it in the space available here, but the wiki page has a decent summary if youâre curious before diving in.
The very, very condensed version is that the main characters are three middle school boys who get turned into kappas by the kappa prince, who sends them on missions to retrieve âdishes of hopeâ every episode. In the process, they learn more about themselves and each other, since each time they complete one of these missions, it results in one of their big secrets being spilled to the others.
I like the main trio (and thereâs a gay subplot there, too, where one of the boys is in love with his best friend but doesnât know how to tell him), but I started watching the show because of the âvillains,â Reo and Mabu. They have a deeply angsty backstory that you donât get to until the last couple episodes. Up until then, they have a transformation sequence every episode that ... yes, gets repetitive, Miraculous Ladybug-style, but I still sat and watched, entranced, every time.
One of the things I like about this anime is that while it is very, very gay, itâs not about being gay. Itâs a fantasy story where several characters just happen to be gay. As much as I love romance (which the rest of these recs definitely have been), I like being able to see gay people (or kappas...) in different genres, just existing.
And if you canât get into the show (11 episodes, available on Crunchyroll), thereâs a spinoff manga about Reo and Mabu being disaster dads to a baby girl they find on a dish in the middle of the street. I think itâs a human AU (kinda?), but itâs super sweet and funny and I liked it a lot.
THE BETRAYAL KNOWS MY NAME
Okay, so this was an early favorite, and I rewatched it recently and laughed a lot about how massively dramatic it is, but I donât care, Iâm still into it.
Weâre skirting the edge of âcanon gayâ here, because you never get an on-screen kiss, and itâs technically a shoujo manga. But...it was at the top of a lot of BL lists when I was first hunting for good stuff to watch, and the relationship between Yuki and Luka is deeply romantic (and achingly piningly good) and central to the story.
The titleâs linked to one of Lukaâs frequent lines:Â âI will never betray you,â which he earnestly tells Yuki at every opportunity he gets. Luka is an extremely powerful demon, and Yuki is part of an immortal (via reincarnation) clan that hunts demons. But in Yukiâs past life, they fell in love.
Yuki was, at that point and in previous lives, a woman, but something changed this time around: he was reborn as a man, and without any of his memories.
Luka, who waited for Yuki to be reincarnated so they could be together again, still remembers and still loves him. But he keeps his devotion on Yukiâs terms, refusing to force the memory of a relationship that Yuki might have wanted to forget.
Thereâs one particularly great scene where the leader of Yukiâs clan asks Luka if anything has changed - if they can still rely on Luka to stay by Yukiâs side and be his protector. âThey have the same soul,â Luka says. Gender doesnât matter. He loves Yuki. Heâll always love Yuki.Â
And Yuki, though he doesnât remember loving Luka, begins to slowly, inevitably, fall in love again.
The anime is 24 episodes - while it doesnât fully close out the story, it does have some closure, or at least a solid sense of an upcoming happy ending. (I own the DVD; I donât think the show is currently available to watch online.)
Thereâs also a manga, which is beautifully illustrated, wow, the sheer level of detail in this blows me away. Which, unfortunately, was way too much work to maintain at that level and ultimately destroyed the authorâs health, so the last few volumes get shorter and shorter and the story trickles to an unsatisfying conclusion.
I still love it a lot, though, and itâs another example of establishing a great relationship within the context of a much larger story - a sweeping, complicated fantasy epic.
HONORABLE MENTIONS
Those are my primary favorites, unless Iâm forgetting anything (and for the purposes of this post, Iâm leaving out things like Tiger & Bunny and Promare, which are very gay and embraced as such by the creators but also not something Iâm comfortable including in a Definitely Canonically Gay, You Wonât Ever Be Disappointed By Future Reveals list). If I have the energy, I might make another post like this for those kinds of stories.
But there are a few others that I enjoyed, if not enough to buy copies of or collect merch for. These include:
No. 6
Dystopian, so definitely very dark and kind of visually disturbing in places (for instance, people rotting from mystery infections). Thereâs a central m/m romance and one kiss, but the ending is kind of an open one without a super happy conclusion. It doesnât have high rewatch value for me - Iâve only ever watched it once and donât really feel inclined to go back - but it's got good storytelling and is worth viewing.Â
Kizuna Koi No Kara Sawagi (Much Ado About Nothing OVA)
That last bit of the title is important to get you to the correct OVA, since there are different variations of this story. Itâs been a long time since I tried the main anime, but I did not like it - I had major issues with its story, particularly with the sexual assault plotline. I did, however, love the OVA and have recommended it to people as something that can be watched independently.
There's still a little dodgy content in it (as with a lot of things in the BL genre), but it's mostly a lovely established relationship story with a lot of bittersweet feels, with flashbacks to how the couple got together.Â
Itâs necessarily a "happy" story either, though, because they're in a loving, committed relationship in a society where they can't be open about that, and it takes a toll. They're doing their best to work through the difficulties together.
Ai no KusabiÂ
SERIOUS WARNINGS FOR THIS ONE.
It's about a society with "Blondies" as the elite ruling class and dark-haired "Mongrels" from the slums. There's slavery, plus some serious sexual consent issues...which I found extra prevalent in the newer version (prettier animation but much more cringey on the content).
The 90s version has rougher animation but a more interesting story. The relationship is still not necessarily healthy, but it reads as a lot more of a forbidden love BDSM relationship.
Even so, the ending is SUPER unhappy. I cannot emphasize that enough. I was watching all these things on my own without any warnings, so this one hit me really hard, and I couldn't stop thinking about it for days after. Iâm not sure if I'd watch it again, but I've had interesting conversations with others who did.
I guess what I liked about it is that itâs a very different kind of story - and like I said earlier, itâs nice to have variety in genres. As long as every story isnât dark and tragic, itâs worthwhile to sometimes experience ones that are told well. And weirdly (since this is not something I would watch with my family) it reminded me to some extent of the movies I grew up with - the 80s and early 90s had a lot of dark sci-fi, and my family really loved watching them, so thereâs something...nostalgic about how disturbing it is? Thanks parents. At least this oneâs gay.
Gakuen Heaven
To pull us back from the darker content, hereâs one that I guess was adapted from a dating computer game. As far as I can remember, it was pretty free of cw; fun but not as emotionally engaging as some of the others. Itâs pretty much just a fluffy story about a boysâ school on an island with a mystery plot and a romance.
MANGA RECS
I sprinkled some manga recs alongside the relevant anime, but here are a few others that Iâve only experienced in book form. (Iâve got one on my nightstand right now that I need to read, but if itâs good Iâll just update this post I guess, Iâve put this reply off for long enough.)
OUR DINING TABLE
Unlike a lot of the other manga Iâve read, this is a single volume, which means it has a nice, solid conclusion that wraps everything up wonderfully and doesnât leave you any room to worry that the author will insert unnecessary drama down the line. (Thatâs an issue, ok? It happens a lot.)
A very soft, sweet romance thatâs actually a lot more about building family - which is something that hugely appeals to me. Highly recommend. Loved it, bought it, will definitely reread it. Iâd love to see it eventually made into a movie, like Doukyusei.
MY BROTHERâS HUSBAND
This is a hefty book - I ordered it after seeing a joke-tweet about the live action adaptation (which I havenât been able to find to watch online). I was surprised by the size of the book but even more (pleasantly!) surprised by its contents. Iâm not familiar with the authorâs other works, although Iâve heard this is the uh....softest and sweetest of his writing. Itâs honestly way more uplifting and healing than I was expecting.
Again, itâs largely about family: a quiet, very private Japanese dad dealing with a visit from his deceased (estranged) twinâs extroverted and cheery Canadian husband. This could go down some very dark paths, but it really doesnât...there are some smatterings of homophobia mixed in, since thatâs sort of the point, but thereâs a lot of wonderful self-discovery and building new family bonds.
OUR DREAMS AT DUSK
Oh man. This series. Irene Koh (Legend of Korra comics illustrator) recommended it on twitter, and I picked up the first volume from my library and then could not stop. All four volumes are now out in official translations, and theyâre so, so good.
These are definitely on the more realistic side - less of an idealized, prejudice-free view of the world, with more of an accurate picture of what itâs like to be not-straight in Japan.
And I phrase it that way because thereâs a lot of variety in the characters in these books. The main character is gay - just coming to terms with the fact that he is, because life would be so much easier if he didnât have a crush on the hot guy at school.
Content warning: it gets so bad at school, in fact, that he starts out the book planning to commit suicide. Itâs dark. But it gets much better, and by the final volume heâs grown so much in his confidence and sense of self-worth - because he becomes a part of a community of other people who teach him that itâs okay to be himself.
And all the other storylines are wonderful. Some of the other characters you get to know include a trans guy, an ace woman, two girls who (spoilers!) get married in the fourth volume, and a much older gay guy whoâs been with his partner for several decades.
Itâs not a fluffy story - thereâs some really tough material throughout, and people arenât always nice, even the ones you really, really want to be - but they also learn and work hard at communicating with each other. I think these are pretty extraordinary books. Beautiful and heartbreaking but also deeply affirming.

ps i feel like i'm writing full on letters to u, i am truly so sorry i cannot condense any of my thoughts into anything less than a mini essay but i am sure the Spirit of my messages is worth it (hopefully)
Please! Write full letters! I already have a few Letter Correspondences going! Iâll add a wax seal and itâll be official! I love writing lil digital letters to people-- even if sometimes Iâm slow with conversation because I get communication fatigue super easily if Iâm having a Hard Time (meaning, please donât take any length of time it takes me to answer as any lack of affection, itâs JUST my brain being exhausted and not wanting to write insincerely).
BUT your unfiltered thoughts mean more than I think any of my polished stories ever could. I mean... what you said about my poorly thesis (I read her now and think OH i canât wait to revamp her and be BETTER) makes me feel so... grateful to have all of you as my little hidden secret weapon for my writerâs confidence. I know I tell this story all the time but if it wasnât for the people that have read my fics and supported my work on here of all places, I would have never applied to write my senior thesis (so NO lost & stolen) and would have never applied to grad school (so NO oct 1983 or Juniper and the Gardener 2.0). NOW look what your unfiltered words are doing! [Iâm editing my manuscript finally and feeling really good about it somehow!!!]
I really hope one day you get to hold all three of my novels (three meaning, of the three Iâm working on. I donât plan on stopping at three... plEASE) and that all three bring you joy and some kind of company. And, if I can, Iâll sign âem and send them to yâall who have really Done The Most For Me. Which is all of you. All my publisher copies are going to yâall. Thatâs what Iâm saying.
Not to ramble (my turn!!!) but again, thank you so so much for all of these messages. I appreciate you so much!!! Youâre just! making my whole night!! (also idk your time zone but i know Iâm Up Late, so you better get some sleep...)

100 Days to Animal Crossing Challenge!
In the spirit of the countdown to New Leaf (remember when? :â) ), and to help wile away the days, hereâs 100 questions for every day until New Horizons is here! Enjoy!
1. Do you prefer making up a new name for your villager, or using your own name? I always name my villager after myself. I go for the immersion!
2. Do you use the first map youâre given, or do you reset for layouts? I used to reset for layouts, until I started hacking. In New Horizons, I'll just be resetting for fruit!
3. Do you use the face youâre given, or do you wait for guides and choose your favourite? I would look for guides. Even with hacking, it's easier to just start with the face you want.
4. Favourite town/island name?/Have you a name picked out for your town/island? My favorite town name that I've seen so far is Lunaire. I don't want to share my town name just yet. It's nothing revolutionary or anything but its personal I guess?
5. Will you be sharing with friends/family, or is your island going to be all your own? I will be having my own island! My husband will have his own island as well. He says we'll spend most of our time in my island though lol
6. Whatâs a new feature youâre excited about? T E R R A F O R M
7. Favourite fruit? Peaches!
8. Least favourite fruit? Pears!
9. Favourite area? (Beach, campground, shopping district etc, from any entry in the series.) My favorite place was the wishing well in ACPG. So cute and sweet. As much as I loved the plaza in ACNL, it's got nothing on the original!
10. Where do you like to like to put your house? Do you like that level of customization, or do you prefer to have some things decided, like in older entries? I like to put my house near waterfalls, its relaxing and good for fishing! I could never get my house near the water in older games, so it was a nice change in ACNL.
11. Favourite grass pattern? Personally, I never really notice the grass patterns!
12. Least favourite grass pattern? See #11 :v
13. Favourite villager/s? My fav villagers are Skye and Punchy đ
14. Least favourite villager/s? I hate Elise the Monkey
15. Did you like doing Tom Nookâs chores, or did you find those to be a pain? I used to find them a pain as a kid but I miss them now. It was so much more engaging!
16. Favourite NPC/s? My fav would have to be KK. He's such a cool dude, he's just full of nostalgia for me.
17. Least favourite NPC/s? I don't really have a least favorite? I guess Katie's mom, her lipstick is tacky imo
18. Do you use paths? Are you excited about the new path tool? With hacking, I use clover paths so they're easier to see on the editor. I can't wait to have real paths, though!
19. Favourite feature from an older entry? The festivities! The neighbors were so much more engaged in ACPG, ACNL is sorta boring in comparison.
20. What was your first Animal Crossing game? My first was ACPG, the gamecube one!
21. Favourite activity (fishing, bug catching, fossil hunting, other)? Fishing was always exciting AND relaxing for me
22. Least favourite activity? Fossil hunting, but only because I don't get immediately results and I'm impatient lol
23. Favourite bug? Even though I don't like these irl, snails hehe
24. Least favourite bug? Scorpions and tarantulas, only because I've almost never encountered them in ANY game
25. A quarter of the way there! Howâs the wait? Agonizing
26. Favourite fish? It's not actually a fish, but I like the softshell turtle!
27. Least favourite fish? The napoleon fish, that big blue one -.-
28. Favourite fossil? The ammonite!
29. Least favourite fossil? Don't really have one lol
30. Favourite furniture series? I've always liked the flower set you get from Leif and the mush set, so cute!
31. Least favourite furniture series? The holiday specific ones, they're so tacky and boring!
32. Favourite soundtrack? (Gamecube, DS/Wii, etc) Gamecube for sure
33. Least favourite soundtrack? Honestly, ACNL. Don't dig the steel drum
34. Favourite wallpaper? The ivy wall hehe
35. Do you have a nice memory of the games/community etc youâd like to share? I didn't really have too much interaction with the community until recently! I just gained a bunch of followers and it's super flattering lol I want to become more involved!
36. Least favourite wallpaper? Cheese...
37. Favourite carpet? I personally love the old board flooring, so simple and rustic!
38. Least favourite carpet? CHEESE
39. Favourite furniture item? The fairy bottle from the Welcome Amiibo update!
40. Will you be buying a Switch for Animal Crossing, or do you already have one? I'm trading in my old switch for the slick new Animal Crossing Switch!
41. Least favourite furniture item? The ultra things that you can get from Redd, so useless!
42. Favourite flower? Carnations!
43. Least favourite flower? Cosmos!
44. Favourite hybrid? Blue roses for sure
45. Least favourite hybrid? Any cosmos
46. Favourite shirt? The denim shirt, long sleeve
47. Favourite dress? I like the raincoat
48. Favourite accessory? Silver frames!
49. Favourite hat/helmet? The keroppi pins
50. Halfway there! Howâs the wait going? Pretty numb!
51. Favourite shop? Dream Suite! So much fun visiting towns!
52. Do you collect amiibo cards/figures? Would you like to see them used in the new game? I have all the amiibo cards are all my fav neighbors, and about have of the total amiibo cards that exist. Idk if I'll use them right away and get all my favs or if I'll let my town naturally fill up and then switch folks out yet
53. Fishing Tourney or Bug-Off? Fishing Tourney, I like fishing more
54. Do you like making your own clothing patterns? I used to, but ACPC made me appreciate the already made in game clothes
55. Did you streetpass with many other ACNL players, or is it a feature you didnât get much use of? I don't get much use out of it nowadays but I would always come back from conventions with a full showcase when I was younger
56. Favourite villager species? Cats!
57. Least favourite villager species? Monkeys
58. Favourite nickname from a villager? I don't really remember the nicknames I got
59. Least favourite nickname from a villager? I also always hated them!
60. Do you try to collect everything in the game, or just try to get your favourite bits and pieces? Bits and pieces for sure
61. Favourite villager personality? Normal and lazy
62. Least favourite villager personality? Jock
63. Do you âplot resetâ for villager house placement, or do you let them move in wherever they want? During my first playthrough of ACNL, I didn't. Then I started doing it when I learned about it. Then I started hacking!
64. Are you excited to wear any of the new accessories (like the bags etc shown in the E3 trailer)? ACPC sorta spoiled that stuff for me, they're still very much appreciated though
65. What season are you most looking forward to seeing in New Horizons? Spring!! đ¸đ¸đ¸
66. Whatâs your favourite season? Spring again hehe
67. Least favourite season? Summer, kinda boring
68. Which gameâs events/holidays do you like the most? Ones that are actually engaging with you and the neighbors
69. Which gameâs events/holidays do you like least? Days like solstices, which just served as "Isabelle is unavailable" Days
70. Do you have another nice AC related memory youâd like to share (in-game, of the community, etc)? When ACPG came out, I was about 6. I had a DVD with those lame live action commercials and I was ENAMORED with them! Obsessed! I begged my parents for the game and they would hem and haw "well there's a lot of reading... you'll have to get better at reading... we won't always be able to help you read it..." and I swore up and down that I'd learn and practice reading. Obviously, nearly 20 years later, I'm still completely obsessed
71. Do you prefer the âliveâ versions of K.K. Sliderâs Songs, or the airchecks? I like both but for different reasons. The live versions are nice and nostalgic and the air checks are closer to the aesthetic that they're actually trying to portray
72. An NPC youâd like to see more of? Farley and Serena!
73. An NPC youâd like to see less of? None in particular, everyone is pretty well designed imo
74. If you could have any piece of AC merchandise, which would it be? I once saw a cute bento box with pics from the movie, my soul died knowing I may never find it to buy anywhere
75. Only 25 days left to go! Howâs the wait? Still numb!
76. Will you be downloading the game, or getting a physical copy? I'm getting a physical copy and my husband is getting a digital, so he can't be tempted to sell it!
77. Do you like coming up with your own town tune/flag, or using what the game gives you/something from a book/tv show/other game, etc? I like doing a sort of japanese "end of school" bell for my town tune, only for the town clock. Idk how I'm gonna do it in this game though...
78. Do you play every day, or every other day/when you feel like it/other? I used to play ACNL everyday, then it got a bit boring. I'm gonna play ACNH literally everyday forever lol
79. Are you the kind of person who starts over after leaving their town for a really long time, or do you try to get right back to it? I tend to restart a lot, but I recently decided to leave my ACNL town with no regrets so I hacked the crap out of it without feeling tacky or cringy
80. Do you remember how you got into the Animal Crossing series? It immediately caught my eye as a 6 year old and its had its grasp on me since
81. Do you like to make up a story for the town/character when you play, or do you just play as yourself? I play as myself but I sorta make a bunch of headcanons for myself and my neighbors and stuff to make it more interesting for me. Sometimes its embarrassing and sometimes I need to tell the people!
82. Favourite dream address /Â âthemeâ for a town (pastel, fairytale, forest, horror, etc)? My favorite town has always been Pastelia, although the mayor's name is escaping me atm >m<"
83. Do you like to have your house fully upgraded/paid off, or do you like keeping it smaller/having fewer rooms? I used to fully upgrade my house all the time but my current ACNL house only have 4 rooms and that's IT
84. Favourite hairstyle? The one with the middle split and it goes behind the ears
85. Least favourite hairstyle? The three ponytails, rip ACWW me
86. Favourite hair colour? I go either pink or my natural brown
87. Least favourite hair colour? That bright green...
88. Do you prefer wearing in-game clothes, or custom designs? In game clothes!
89. Favourite hourly track? 2 pm from ACPG
90. Just ten more days! Howâre you feeling? Half paid off my new switch, so ready!
91. Least favourite hourly track? I don't think I have one!
92. Do you prefer to know all about the game before designing your town/island/house, or do you like to wing it? Bro, I've been glued to my phone since the direct came out
93. Â Another nice Animal Crossing memory? ACNL came out around the time my husband and I started dating, almost exactly at the same time. Now its 8 years later, we're married, and we're gonna play another animal crossing game together finally!
94. Are you excited about same-system multiplayer? Its gonna be great for a lot of people, kinda useless for me though
95. Five more days! Are you going to trade/use amiibo to get your favourite villager, or wait for them to move in themselves/make a new favourite? I think I'll put in my 2 top favs, and then see what comes. Maybe after a few months I'll put everyone in
96. Â Favourite emotion/Shrunk joke? I don't really like his jokes, but my fav emotions to use are the bashful ones
97. Â Least favourite emotion/Shrunk joke? Not a fan of his dopey dance
98. Â Is there a feature youâd like to add to Animal Crossing? I wanna be able to decorate for my neighbors so badly!
99. Â Is there a feature youâd take away? It kinda seems like a lot of issues were solved in ACNH, I guess we'll see what's leftover as an annoying feature
100. Final day! Any more thoughts? Midnight release at my local gamestop! Gonna be there with a bunch of DOOM fans too! Can't wait!!

Week 4
The Real and The Virtual describe two ways of âlookingâ at collections and exhibitions of objects.
The Real means being physically present with a collection or an object. The virtual means to mediate that experience digitally e.g. using software and various configurations of screens, prints etc to produce and manipulate copies made of real things. Digital mediation as imitation can be novel but deceptive e.g. âdeep fakesâ. Â
For your digital workbook:
Consider how access to some virtual spaces might advantage or disadvantage our encounters looking at collections. For example, Marina Abramovic tried to make people care about global heating? Was she successful? Can a good âdigitalâ copy be a substitute for âthe realâ and, under what circumstances?
Virtual environments are also sites for creativity in themselves. In what ways could these go beyond just augmenting Rodneyâs âcivic spaceâ of the physical gallery collection? Can virtual spaces and collections relevant to marginalised groups participate fully in this civic space?
Considering the above. Find at least 4 other examples of collections (either as objects or as an exhibition) where real things are digitally mediated in ways that make you care about a collection - or not.
British Museum, London (britishmuseum.org)
âThere are 3,212 panes of glass in the domed ceiling of the British Museumâs Great Court, and no two are the same â and the 360-degree view in this virtual tour lets viewers examine each and every one. Beyond this magnificent space, viewers can find the Rosetta Stone, Egyptian mummies and other ancient wonders. The museumâs interactive infographic platform, History Connected, goes into further depth of various objects with curators, along a timeline.â
Having a virtual space of an exciting Museum could be a positive alternative top those who can not visit the location and want to experience the collections. For a museum like the British Museum this could be a good opportunity for those to pick up on details that they may have missed when they visited in person. With this museum bringing a virtual space into their website, it allows people to further examine things without having to worry about other people possibly being in their way and influencing the experience.Â
Although these are all positives there may be some negatives too. Experiencing the collections of the British Museum through a screen won't allow you to grasp the full experience of the items themselves when you see them in person. Being able to see these items in person would alter the experience because of the environment that it is in. When you're viewing a collection from the comfort of your own home versus from a building of great importance and architecture there may be some value lost.Â
Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam (rijksmuseum.nl)
âThis grand museum has a vast collection of art and historical objects across 80 galleries. A 10-year renovation project was completed in 2013, transforming the space and combining elements of 19th-century grandeur with modern lighting and a new glass-roofed atrium. The interactive tour helps viewers get up close to every brush stroke by Vermeer, Rembrandt and other Dutch masters while exploring the Great Hall and beyond.âÂ
In a virtual space of the Rijksmuseum the website can be used as a interactive tour for people who visit the museum itself. Yet for a Rijksmuseum their historical collections are objects and paintings that are well known. This means that most people would have seen the painting or object online or through media before. I believe that the significance that comes from viewing these paintings is the scale of which it was painted at. Being able to view these paintings in person allows you to grasp the scale which also creates a more unique experience than if you were to view it online.Â
Physical museums of such significance should in my opinion stay physical, yet it also creates a platform for those who can not visit the physical museum. Taking paintings and objects of such value and plastering them digitally for all to see could possibly de value them in a way. Being able to go and physically see the painting or object would be a more valued experience and remembered one.Â
THE GOOGLE ART PROJECT (https://artsandculture.google.com)
âThe search engine has cleverly partnered with over 1200 cultural institutions from around the world to archive and document priceless pieces of art, and provide virtual tours of museums using Google Street View technology. Thereâs an A-Z of all the museums you can explore virtually including digital friendly museums like the Musee dâOrsay in Paris and the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam.â
the google art Proust unlike the other examples I have shown is a more broad and interactive experience where you can visit many exhibitions around the world using google street view technology. This digital museum is one designed to be interactive and used through an application on your phone.Â
Although within this app I feel like there is some issues that arise, such as turning yourself into an iconic painting or art piece as a filter over a photograph. I feel like this could be taken in many ways. This could be a way for people to engage with the artwork and understand it more, being able to interact with the art and turn yourself into the art allows for a very unique experience like no other. I tried this out and started to think from the perspective of the painter or artist and it brought some new point of views. Yet this experience was almost diminishing the value of the artwork itself, to some it may be defacing the artwork completely and undervaluing its significance.Â
Overall this virtual walkthrough of a huge array of institutions is a more valued way of creating a virtual museum. As it allows people to visit multiple locations and exhibitions rather to one museum or gallery.Â
AUCKLAND WAR MEMORIAL MUSEUM (https://www.aucklandmuseum.com)
âThere are several collections to explore here, and its recently launched Auckland Museum at Home â a free online hub filled with stories, activities, videos and puzzles â is perfect for families to enjoy. Auckland Museum chief executive David Gaimster says the museum is an anchor point for all Aucklanders. We want to maintain our connection with the city and the communities we serve while our galleries, exhibitions and public programmes arenât able to operate.â
The idea of a virtual gallery or museum could be less of a foreseen one in this day and age. Coronavirus playing a large role in public spaces this year we all found ourselves in our own homes without access to activities and facilities such as galleries and museums. The Auckland War Memorial Museum had several collections online for you to view. Having access to this information could play a large impact on current affairs where you are unable to experience the gallery in person. This allows us to have access to our history and understand it's significance in these times of hardship, breaking the barriers that may possibly play a part in our lives in the future.Â
This also made me think of other barriers that may play a large impact of some people, people who are unable to access certain areas because of a disability or simply just location. A virtual gallery or museum allows us to create less restrictions and âopen the doorsâ to everyone who wishes to access it.Â
Overview
Virtual galleries and Museums allow us to access information that we may not be able to locate ourselves physically, although the digital platform may belittle artwork in ways it in my opinion is a necessity. Locations and buildings set an experience like no other, where you experience the gallery or exhibition impacts your view, to view such things in your own home may negatively impact how you understand it.Â
I would argue that the importance of a gallery or museum comes from the experience of the surroundings, being able to walk into a room specially designed for the experience brings a unique value to the items on display and impacts your understanding.Â

Part two
Ordinary Things in Ordinary Places: Meditations on Moving by Connie Brown
âForever objects of (re)interpretation, Narration and representationâ this is a powerful quote that strengthens the idea of permanent exhibitions in the fact that we personally find meanings that others don't. I believe that it is important to have a free flow of interpretation and encourage people to think individually, for this purpose.Â
The same could be taken when visiting a collection of items such as a gallery or museum. The fact of viewing and experiencing leaves us with a different state of mind of which we came in with. A new point of view or simply a new understanding can be a powerful tool to have when creating a space or exhibition.
This quote makes sense for me to save as it looks into the linking of story and can link to me creating a narrative through portraiture. People can interlock in many ways and to find a way to create a story through mediums of portraiture could be a fun and expressive way to convey this message/concept.
The Man who Never Threw Anything Away Ilya Kabakov
Through this reading it is evident that many people find value in things in varying ways. This further values the necessity for personal interpretation when it comes to viewing an artefact of such. The mare personal interpretation of items through memory can be a strong concept for people to hold onto.Â
It could be an interesting thing to look into when Iâm creating an exhibition, through looking at different interpretations of portraiture and using many in the gallery to show different view points that some may find varying value in. Â

[TRANS] 170220 10asia BTS Q&A: Behind âWINGSâ
Source KRN - ENG Š ktaebwi
10asia (10). Your new song âSpring Dayâ dominated the digital music charts on the day of releasing.Â
JIMIN: Every time we release an album, we always have the same feeling of excitement and expectation. This time our members all listened to the new songs at 0 oâclock together too. Weâre really touched that our song âSpring Dayâ ranked #1 on the chart for 24 consecutive hours starting from the 1AM chart. Our previous album âWINGSâ received such good responses so we felt the pressure too. We think of our fans a lot and weâre thankful to them too.Â
SUGA: You may think itâs different from the usual BTS style. âSpring Dayâ combines British rock elements together with electronic sounds. I wrote the lyrics based on my personal experiences, itâs about missing your friends. I thought many could sympathize with this. Thank you for loving it.Â
10. âWINGS: YOU NEVER WALK ALONEâ exceeded 700,000 pre-orders.Â
JIN: We were very surprised. These days online music sites are used a lot but people still buy physical copies that much, I think itâs thanks to their love for us. Weâll repay by making and bringing you even better music.Â
10. Last year âWINGSâ set the best records among Korean artists by entering the US Billboard 200 Chart, England UK Chart and more.Â
V: We received so much love around the world to the point of making us think if we could even receive this much love. We only had happy moments. If thereâs a personal goal for me in 2017, my big goal is to enter the Billboard Hot 100 Chart. Itâs something all artists dream of.Â
10. Whatâs the secret to your popularity overseas?Â
SUGA: We write the songs & lyrics by ourselves and participate in producing. We keep in mind the kind of sounds that overseas fans would love and work on it. We also actively participate in the final stages like mixing or mastering. I think overseas fans are interested in our music because it doesnât have big differences to the kind of music that they usually listen to.Â
RAP MONSTER: BTS always pursue trendy sounds. Another thing is that as the K-pop community becomes more active, our lyrics in Korean are quickly translated by overseas fans, therefore the stories of the youth weâre telling can cross the borders and be sympathized by the youth in other countries too. Our powerful performances in music videos and such also play a part in our popularity.Â
10. Recently many new boy groups picked BTS as their role model.Â
SUGA: Itâs an honor for us and it also feels amazing. It has already been a few years since we debuted and talked about our role models, the sunbae singers we want to be like with excitement. I want to say to our hoobaes that thereâll be lots of ups and downs and worries. Itâd be a time when you would be so worried and anxious that you canât sleep, but eventually good days will come. Everyone is really cool and there are a lot of good singers. I hope they will, too, become sunbaes and become cool singers.Â
JIN: The most important thing is the relationship between members. Itâs important to work in harmony with each other.Â
10. BTS is quite active in communicating with fans.Â
J-HOPE: Yes thatâs right. I enjoy watching MV reaction videos of international fans. I relate to the fans a lot while watching their reactions. Like âJ-hope is freaking handsome here.â (laughs)Â
JUNGKOOK: I watch MV theory videos a lot, thereâre quite many clever people. Thereâs also a lot of those who got it correct to the point of making me think âHow do you know about this?â, and some even make new interpretations that even we donât know about it.Â
V: Thereâs a scene in âSpring Dayâ music video where Jungkook runs and the members gather together. Iâm the only one who didnât appear in it so there were various theories raising up. Actually itâs because when we were filming it I forgot so I couldnât go in. (laughs)Â
JIN: The scene where V covers my eyes in âBlood, Sweat & Tearsâ music video was originally given to Suga. Sugaâs acting was worse than we thought so it was changed to V, but our fans made theories about that.
SUGA: I think the creations made from the creatorsâ point of views are open to various interpretations by the audience.Â
10. There are opinions saying âSpring Dayâ is reminiscent of the Sewol Ferry tragedy.Â
RAP MONSTER: We should be careful when talking. As citizens of this country, we feel the responsibility for the Sewol Ferry tragedy and with the thought of expressing our feelings/our hearts, we donated together. The music video for âSpring Dayâ places emphasis on expressing the lyrics visually. Of course it can be interpreted differently depending on the beholderâs thoughts and point of view. I want to leave it to those who are appreciating it (the song/music video).Â
10. A part of the lyrics âbreak the glass ceilingâ from another new song âNot Todayâ stirred up controversy.Â
RAP MONSTER: Iâm aware of that. I have read related articles and posts several times. First of all, Iâm grateful because itâs thanks to many people having interest towards the stories weâre telling that there can be talks around. âGlass ceilingâ means an invisible but unbreakable barrier and it started from the oppression towards women advancing onto higher positions in the 1970s. Itâs mainly used in issues about womenâs rights and recently expanded into being used with minorities of the society. Itâs not true that the meaning was misused like in part of the lyrics above. Someone questioned whether or not BTS, as successful male idols, have the right to use the word âglass ceilingâ. If you take a closer look at other lyrics, it starts with the story of âusâ. Our music making staffs, including us, put it in the music with the meaning that we wonât stay quiet about the problems or the negative parts of the society, and we will break it and join in even if it stirs up troubles. Especially these days we always talk about the social issues. Personally, Iâm reading books and meeting with experts while concerning over it. Itâs true that weâre still lacking, but I believe that as we take concerns, receive opinions and rectify, we can grow up. We will humbly receive the opinions and criticisms.Â
10. âTHE WINGS TOURâ have been receiving heated response.Â
J-HOPE: I saw the heated response from South America through newspaper and TV. There were people who had to line up overnight for days to buy the concert tickets, I want to come find them quickly and perform for them.
SUGA: We have prepared the most props ever. We really prepared a lot, you would be astonished. Those with weak hearts should be careful. (laughs) There are many special effects too. Our concerts always have a story inside, this concert will sort out the stories told by BTSâ music.Â
10. Do you have any new goal in the future?Â
JIMIN: My goal is to receive the Daesang again. I think thereâs nothing as meaningful as receiving the award after working hard for a year.Â
RAP MONSTER: AX Hall in 2014, SK Olympic Handball Gymnasium in 2015, Olympic Gymnastics Arena in 2016 and this year we reached Gocheok Dome, we should work hard for the next venue to be the stadium in the US. (laughs) The current lineup for âTHE WINGS TOURâ includes 19 concerts in 11 cities from Asia, South America, North America to Australia. Thereâll be more to be added in later, and weâll show the wings of BTS spreading across the world.

Tattly Talk: Q&A with Vogueâs Laird Borrelli-Persson
When Vogue called us to talk about a partnership, we said yes, and hung up the phone, high-fived everyone we saw. We eventually pulled ourselves together for a meeting at the Conde Nast offices. When we met Laird Borrelli-Persson, Vogue.comâs Archive Editor, we realized immediately that she was going to be our brain trust for developing our first collection together to commemorate the magazineâs 125th anniversary. The digital archive is an incredible resource of imagery and information, going back to day one of the magazine. If youâre into fashion, hereâs the link and youâre welcome!
Borrelli-Persson sat down with Tattlyâs Yng-Ru Chen recently at the Conde Nast library to discuss her work and to review some of the materials from the physical archive. Treat yourself and read on for more Vogue history and beauty.
The Vintage Vogue Collection is available for a limited time to U.S.-based customers.Â
YRC: Thank you for sharing your work with Tattly! As the Archive Editor of Vogue.com, you have a unique role of using technology to expand historical knowledge. Can you explain briefly your role in archiving Vogue for the digital archive?
LBP: Sure thing: Itâs a topic I never tire of returning to! It was decided that for the magazineâs 120th anniversary that weâd scan every page of every issue and tag them so that the incredible history of Vogue could be accessed by the touch of a button. The end result was a subscription based business-to-business product. There is also a version for libraries; magazine subscribers are able to view a selection of archival issues in addition to those from the current year.
As the subject matter expert, I helped to create the taxonomy we used to tag the pages and helped enhance the data, by adding information that was not printed, such as model names. Some of this information from the old marked copies in the physical archive. These are annotated in ink by hand, presumably by a glove- and hat-wearing former staffer. To me, this was heaven, as the discoveries they yielded were amazing. The most exciting was the revelation that the famous 1926 drawing of a LBD (little black dress), described by Vogue as âThe Chanel âFordâ--the frock that all the world will wearâ was drawn, according to the scribbled attribution, by none other than Mainbocher, an Chicagoan who went to Europe to study opera, lost his voice on the eve of his debut, became an illustrator for French Vogue, and then its editor, before leaving to become a self-taught designer and designing Wallis Simpsonâs wedding dress.
YRC: It seems that your academic background set you up perfectly for what youâre doing now. Tell us how you came to work at Vogue?
LBP: I have an undergraduate degree in English literature from Boston College. While there, I had the good fortune to spend a year at Oxford University where I was able to take some art history classes as well, which I loved. When it came time for graduate school, I tried to pinpoint my passions in part by analyzing what I did on my free time. Realizing that my favorite things to do were going to art and fashion exhibitions, and magazines (the latter I read and then cut up filing some articles and images and pasting others into scrapbooks), I settled on the Museum Studies program at FIT, where I was mentored by the generous Dr. Valerie Steele. I analyzed changing styles of fashion writing for my thesis, which was titled âDressing Up and Talking about It: Fashion Writing inVogue.â After graduation I went to work at the Museum at F.I.T. and, having been introduced to a publisher through Dr. Steele, started writing books, most of which are on another passion--contemporary fashion illustration. After about five years at the museum, I joined the staff at the old Style.com, not long after its launch.
YRC: Did you ever imagine that your career would take you into the world of digital?
LBP: It wasnât my first thought. This was quite a while ago, in the age of flip phones! The (compulsive) impulse to organize and catalog images held me in good stead, however.
YRC: What is your favorite part of being Archive Editor?
LBP: Thatâs an easy one to answer: Being able to look at fashion in context of the history of fashion and of Vogue, hopefully in a way that makes it relevant and interesting to our online readers. In my opinion, our archive is one of our unique selling points.
This year, for the magazineâs 125th anniversary, we created a series of fashion by the decade videos, narrated by the stylish and savvy Sarah Jessica Parker. These trace the evolution of fashion as reported in our pages. On a more granular level, being able to expand our knowledge of the magazineâs past, by discovering nuggets of information in a biography, say, or reaching out to talk to past cover models, gives me a thrill. Being able to add an ID where there was none is a small victory. The goal is not to dwell in the past, but to bring it to life; as I see it, the more we are able to enhance our data, the more ways there are for it to intrigue, inform, and inspire readers and researchers today.
YRC: Letâs talk about the history of illustration at Vogue. Nowadays people associate photography with the imagery of the magazine. But illustration was really the driving visual force for many decades. Can you expand on this a bit?
LBP: In relation to illustration, photography is a relatively recent invention. For ages, information about fashion was communicated through fashion plates. (Small dolls were also used.) It wasnât until around the 1920s that fashion photography, which Horst P. Horst credits publisher CondĂŠ Nast with helping to develop, emerged as its own genre. The first color photograph to appear on the cover of Vogue was published in 1932; illustrated covers continued to appear through 1958. Â Itâs been ages since photography became the primary way to communicate fashion. But, as the artist Mats Gustafson recently told me, drawing âdoesnât compete with the camera, it just adds something totally different.â
YRC: I was so excited to see the Salvador DalĂ âVogueâ script [below, the April 1944 cover]. Itâs incredible that people such as Dali were Vogue artists. Who were some other prominent illustrators who contributed to Vogue?
LBP: Some of the fine artists who have made work for the magazine are Giorgio de Chirico, Pierre Roy, Marie Laurencin, and Andy Warhol. (More recent contributors include Alex Katz and Francesco Clemente.) Â Before the arrival, in the 1910s of a group of French fashion artists associated with the Gazette du Bon Ton and dubbed âBeau Brummels of the Brush,â George Wolfe Plank and Helen Dryden created many of Vogueâs memorable covers. In the âteens and twenties, Georges Lenape and Benito were among the most prolific cover artists, later Eric (Carl Erickson) would be. Though they had distinct styles, their subject was one and the same: the now mythical lady of leisure who seemed to have not a care in the world (save the occasional bill). Â Supremely elegant she followed the sun, lived in beautiful homes, and was seen at all the right places.
YRC: The lady on a zebra illustration by AndrĂŠ E. Marty is one of the most iconic covers. Itâs an amazing world of fantasy! What do you know about this work, or about the artist?
LBP: Marty was one of Gazette du Bon Ton set. A Frenchman with a degree in philosophy, he would apply his art to fashion, the theater, books, and interiors. Â His was a gentle take on Art Deco, and while he often stuck to a domestic milieu, this was certainly not the case when he drew the adventuress, known as the âLady on the Zebra.â This stylish and surprising cover inspired an article in the New York Herald Tribune, which Vogue reprinted in its May 1, 1926, because the editorial note explained, the newspaper piece recognized âVogueâs desire to promote all that is new in art (so long as it is inherently good and has the intangible quality of chic that characterizes all the material in the magazine.â The element of fantasy in fashion is what makes it endlessly fascinating, and here, Marty finds the perfect balance between convention and surprise.
YRC: Claire Avery was another regular contributor. It was interesting to learn that female illustrators were not a rarity during the early days of Vogue. We love that! What are these original illustrations that youâve pulled? Did they run in the magazine?
LBP: There were many female fashion illustrators connected to the magazine, and their work appeared in feature stories, as spots, and as pattern drawings. Avery, nicknamed âTasselâ by her friends, was an American who studied at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn and would live for a time in France. She was friendly with Edna Wollman Chase, the longest sitting editor of Vogue, who in her memoirs, recalled that Avery âbought Paris clothes when she could afford them and had her shoes made at Hellstern and loved the theater.â Both of these illustrations [pictured above], made for a long-running series on the history of costume, ran in Vogue in 1925. The fellow who looks quite like a Dresden figure is wearing âslim breeches and elaborated coat and giletâ and illustrates the mode of Marie Antoinette and Louis XVI. The other, showing Georgian style, is of âa great drum-shaped hatâ favored by eighteenth-century ladies of style.
YRC: I loved learning from you about the Vogue Girl, the illustrations of women beautifully surrounded by a âVâ. What is the story behind this âGirlâ?
LBP: The Vogue Girl was the invention of Harry McVickar and she appeared in the magazineâs very first issue encouraging readers to take advantage of a special subscription offer. I donât know why he dressed her in romantic 18th-century modeâto me she looks like sheâs in shepherdess fancy-dressâbut the Vogue Girl became a sort of mascot or logo, used on stationery and in publicity. Gale Porter Hoskins reimagined the lady, in color, as a 1909 cover; though Chase counts the second âofficialâ version, as the one drawn by Frank X. Leyendecker in 1911. His version seems to have been inspired in equal parts by Marie Antoinette and an Age of Enlightenment coquette. Georges Lepape is credited with the Vogue Girlâs third iteration. His flapper of 1920 [pictured above], one of my favorite illustrations, wears a headband and a full-skirted robe de style, and she recently made a guest appearance on limited-edition wrapping paper distributed to Vogue VIP members.Â
YRC: The digital archive is such an incredible resource. Do you know if the users are primarily fashion-industry types? For example, are they designers doing research for an upcoming collection? Or do you find that the users are just fashion-obsessed Vogue fans?
LBP: Of course Iâm biased, but I think almost anyone could find something of interest in the digital archive, be it an old-time ad or an iconic photograph, whether itâs a couture sitting by Irving Penn or a select from Steven Meiselâs âGrunge and Gloryâ story. Â
Among our subscribers are fashion designers, of course, but also industry executives including marketers and merchandisers, ad agencies, retailers, students of fashion and Vogue enthusiasts. Itâs possible to search for so many things: the issue matching the month and year of your birth; Â an item (miniskirts) or trend (athleisure); Â a specific model, designer, photographer; or reference, like the date of the issue in which Dorothy Parkerâs famous quip--âBrevity is the soul of lingerieâ--appeared. (Answer: October 1, 1916.)
YRC: How does one get access to the digital archive?
LBP: Subscribers can access the past 12 issues of Vogue and selected archival issues; Archive Members can see, and search, everything. The details are here.
YRC: Two last questions! Which Vintage Vogue Tattly is your favorite?
LBP: Claire Averyâs âBlue Stockingâ drawing of the woman reading Vogue [pictured above]. I like to think of as my (less harried and longer-haired) alter-ego. Fun fact: the covers Avery drew are real onesâand one shows the Vogue girl.
YRC: If we were to expand on our collaboration, what would you like to see made as Tattly?
LBP: You mentioned the possibility of creating scented Tattlys, and Iâd love to explore that further, as well as a possible series with a spirited character from our past named Shop Hound aka ShoppieâŚ.
YRC: Thank you, Laird!

9 Tactics for Promoting Your Next Event http://ift.tt/2zbHS0q
Events, large and small, can be a great way to promote your business, and perhaps turn a profit in the process. I didnât take the idea of launching an event seriously until I read Joe Pulizziâs book Content Inc.: How Entrepreneurs Use Content to Build Massive Audiences and Create Radically Successful Businesses. Inspired by Pulizziâs perspective on events as a content marketing tool, my marketing agency launched events in China and Hong Kong to build an audience and our companyâs brand in the Asia market. I recently hosted a virtual, online summit with 61 experts on influence like Dave Kerpen, Chris Brogan, Adam Grant, Dorie Clark, and Jonah Berger, and for next year am involved in organizing events in the US and UK.
Organizing an event is hard work, even if itâs relatively small. As a former director of the Hong Kong chapter of Startup Grind, I hosted over 20 events, most with fewer than 100 attendees, but even these minor events were major exercises in project management. One of the greatest challenges to pulling off a successful event is marketing it.
According to Constant Contact, 59 percent of event marketers seek help in finessing their social media strategy. Itâs no secret that great artists steal, so an effective way to refine your event promotion strategy is to look to the people who are ahead of the social media marketing curve.
Letâs start with one of the U.S.âs biggest events of the year: the Super Bowl. In 2016, PepsiCo revealed that 40 percent of its budget for the big game went toward digital. Why? Because thatâs where the conversations were happening. Pepsi began with the lead-up to the event, which included a 12-day fan countdown on Twitter and a partnered ad with Tostitos featuring Von Miller of the Denver Broncos. During the game, Snapchat provided live footage and real-time content.
What kept the conversation going was BeyoncĂŠâs performance with Coldplay and Bruno Mars, including her first performance of the song âFormation.â Following the performance, BeyoncĂŠ immediately released news of her 2016 Formation World Tour. Given the timing, BeyoncĂŠ, her tour, and her album were and forever will be linked with the PepsiCo halftime show.
You and I may not have access to the kind of dollars the Super Bowl organizers do, and event promotion, as with any marketing, isnât as simple as throwing money at a particular form of advertising and hoping for the best. Still, we can learn from organizers large and small how to better market our own events. Here are 9 steps you can take to ramp up your event marketing strategy:
Related:Â Former Apple and Pepsi CEO John Sculley: Great Marketers Do This
1. Develop a multifaceted marketing plan.
You will never drive the results you want by focusing all your energies on a single platform. Instead, take an approach of organized diversification, starting with email marketing and social media. Create a dedicated hashtag, which will serve as a tracker through every stage of your event. Get your PR team to send out event reminders and take out ads in local newspapers. Most importantly, make sure your website is configured well and that the steps to finding more information about your event are both easy and small in number.
Related: 4 Strategies for a Strong Early Marketing Plan
2. Consider paid ads
Snapchat, Facebook and Twitter are just a few of the many social media platforms that provide paid advertisement services. On a large scale, paid ads can tell you just about anything you want to know about your audience -- including their location, their age, the device theyâre using and even the time theyâre most likely to be on social media. Though some information might seem insignificant, remember that all of it can be used to keep your customer engaged long after your event ends.
Related:Â How to Break the Mold of Standard Event Conferences
3. Employ retargeting
Eventbrite, a useful resource for any organization looking to step up its next event, cites retargeting as one of the best tools to get potential attendees off the fence and in the door at your event. Consider retargeting an even more precise approach to paid advertising by specifically focusing on those who have visited your event page but didnât click âBuy.â Though you might think retargeting is simply a form of pestering, note these statistics: Fifty-nine percent of people have an entirely neutral reaction to retargeted ads, and 30 percent actually react positively to them. Further, retargeting can boost your ad up to 400 percent.

4. Back up your online efforts with signage.
According to an infographic from Ethos3, 65 percent of the population learns visually, so backing up your event with physical graphics is a surefire way to create even more buzz. Take bluemediaâs work at Super Bowl 50. The national signage company was tasked with creating building wraps, banners, stadium graphics and even branded fences for the game. The reach of the promotional graphics is undeniable -- more than 70,000 people flooded Leviâs Stadium, and CBS reported that more than 167 million people watched Super Bowl 50, making it the most watched event in history.

5. Enlist your presenters.
When I launched my virtual event, Influence Summit, I partnered with virtual summit expert Bailey Richert who helped me create graphics, swipe copy for emails and social media posts, and an affiliate program for speakers so they could easily share the word about the event and profit from it. Nicole Holland, organizer of a similar online event called the Business Building Rockstars Summit, invited the speakers to produce short videos which she promotes on social media, and we speakers promote to our own audiences.

6. Collaborate with other event organizers.
Rarely is another event a direct competitor to yours, but there are many that are potential partners or collaborators. If you and another event have similar audiences, but cover different topics and donât compete in terms of scheduling, then there may be a great opportunity to cross-pollinate. âI collaborate with various groups and publications,â says Ariel Shapira, organizer of Video Trends Conference 2018 in Tel Aviv, Israel. âI also collaborate with other events â I donât see them as competition but as partners â cross publication works very well.â

7. Host mini âpreviewâ events.
Perhaps no entrepreneurship related organization has taken this as far as Startup Grind, which has hundreds of chapters hosting thousands of local events each year. By the time their annual global event rolls around each year they have thousands of excited attendees lined up to buy tickets.
Related:Â 7 Factors to Consider with Free v. Paid Public Speaking
8. Create a great event.
Sometimes organizers get so distracted marketing their event they forget that the best marketing is the buzz created by attendees who love the event. "The most important part of event marketing is creating a remarkable event,â says Christopher Kneeland, Co-Founder, The Gathering. âSpend sufficient time and money making sure your event is uniquely compelling. If you do it well, your attendees will do your marketing for you.â
Related:Â 3 Ways to Secure Impressive People for Your Event
9. Feature your event, even after itâs ended.
Combine pictures taken at your event with promotional photos and posts from attendees who used your hashtag to create a second wave of interest for your brand. By tracking post-event engagement, youâll be able to gauge the effectiveness of your budget, the ROI earned and simply whether your attendees enjoyed themselves. Also, consider mentioning the partners who helped you with the event by expressing gratitude. Not only will this be karmic, but it will also give those brands the recognition they deserve.
All in all, remember that the above tactics are not the only ones that will bring your event success. Authenticity is the No. 1 driver of consumer engagement, so make sure your eventâs offerings align with your brand to create a lasting impression.

New Post has been published on http://www.buildercar.com/by-design-2018-mclaren-720s/
By Design: 2018 McLaren 720S
The 720S is a beautiful, sleek GT car, possibly the most aerodynamically exciting road car to come from the U.K. since the Jaguar E-type 56 years ago. My main criticism of volume-production McLarens â all of which until now used the same basic 3.8 liter V-8 engines and carbon-fiber monocoques â has been the gaping holes in the body sides required to provide enough cooling for the hot sections within the outer envelope. This new design has a beautifully simplified outer form and a complex internal-airflow management system that permits more power than any modern McLaren has enjoyed up to now. And the company achieved it without blatant air passages seen on the racing-oriented Ford GT or the road version of the Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus SCG003 GT.
Most recent high-performance cars have had some kind of aerodynamic covering over their headlamps. The 720S does outline a large lighting area, so cleverly shaped and integrated into the whole that it convinces you thereâs a cover. But it is completely open, its black carbon-fiber internal surfaces sculpted in voluptuous curves to direct airflow.
Rob Melville, McLaren Automotiveâs thoughtful and reflective chief designer, was keen to recapture the simplicity that so memorably characterized the first non-racing mid-engine supercar, Lamborghiniâs Miura, without copying it. Thatâs not easy when dealing with three times the horsepower and thus the enormously increased heat load imposed by two turbochargers.
The answer was to increase frontal air-intake area without a gigantic grille by putting the lamps in open scoops and to route most of the cooling air internally, allowing smooth flanks marked with strong character lines and only very small inlets low on the body behind the door to cool the turbochargersâ radiators. Air is ducted through the doors in open-top trenches, which increase in area as they move rearward, so there are four longitudinal skins in the upper part of each door. Those doors, in turn, are hinged to move upward and a bit inward, rather than just pivoting up on a horizontal transverse-hinge axis. This is a brilliant solution seen once before â on the very mundane Toyota Sera, of all things. It works brilliantly here, making cabin access easy and door closing equally facile, neither case existing on the 570 models.
One of the cabinâs greatest attributes is the exceptional all-around visibility, achieved by multiple transparencies: windshield, two lateral and two roof door glasses, the backlight, two rear-quarter windows, and two panes in the C pillar itself. The result is luminous, and you can really see out well in all directions, not common in mid-engine machines.
There are a few styling matters I quarrel with. The three louvers at the end of the roof seem too big, a bit crude and disproportionate to the delicacy of much of the detailing. The exhaust outlets cut into the bumper recall economy cars where the engineers and stylists seem never to have talked to each other. But these are minor quibbles. What impresses me most is the side profileâs purity and elegance. A driverâs head is almost exactly at mid-wheelbase, depending on seat adjustment, of course, but itâs a good place for the inner ear to be to sense the carâs movements.
An important innovation is a two-version instrument panel. In standard mode, the color screen presents a traditional tachometer in which a digital speedometer and the gear indicator are embedded, flanked by readings for the trip odometer, hours since engine start, temperature and fuel gauge, and speed and fuel-consumption figures. But when youâre really going hard, the panel physically pivots to take up less of the view ahead and includes only a racing-style tach and indicators of gear engaged and your speed. This is likely to be widely seen in future vehicles.
The 720S is surely the best-looking shape McLaren has produced so far, and it bodes well for forth-coming top-of-the-range models.
Design Analysis
1. Relatively modest outlets just inboard of a directional crease in the hood release heat from the front coolers.
2. You can just see the top of a huge inlet duct for the rear radiators set into the doors, allowing the outer skins to be smooth and virtually uninterrupted.
3. Large, pointed headlamp apertures give the front end thrust and definition.
4. As an indication of this designâs precision, elegance, and sensitivity, consider the care with which various curves are made to harmonize in three dimensions, from whatever viewpoint. Outstanding work.
5. The vaguely pentagonal outer scoops presumably provide brake cooling.
There is something extremely sharklike to the nose profile.
6. The rear fenderâs hip line is an elegant curve seemingly drawn in a single, sweeping, human artistâs creative gesture. There is no sense of constrained or contrived digital form generation.
7. The quarter lights behind the doors taper inward in plan view, making the entire upper structure a teardrop shape for minimum drag, like a fighter jet canopy.
8. The entire front end is shaped to give this point prominence without the exaggeration of the ultra-long nose of Jaguarâs E-type.
9. Another example of harmony of line and form. This slight undercut defines a band whose average width is about like that between lamps and wheelhouse.
10. The unassuming and discreet inlet behind the door, barely noticed when standing next to the car, supplies additional cooling air to the turbochargers.
11. This rib is quite beautiful, but it has an aerodynamic function, too, keeping air from spilling down the side of the body. The black scoop inboard gathers air to shoot out over the windshield, cleaning up turbulence in the wiper slot behind the hood.
12. Plastic or metal, you canât have a sharp point in a body skin, so this little radius results in a forward-pointing black arrowhead shape.
13. The half-dozen vertically oriented headlamp lenses are themselves individual units in the upper edges of the headlamp opening.
14. The daylight running lamps traverse the same opening but are actually exposed.
15. The outlined area around the headlights and the running-light bar is open to incoming air. You can put your hand in the opening and run it all around the bar.
16. This small outlet improves the graphics of the side profile and provides a flow of directed air down the side of the body.
Ten slim spokes make the wheel seem almost not present, thus providing visual emphasis to the rim and offering maximum heat transfer from the brakes.
17. Key to the sleek, clean side profile is a sizable tunnel in the doors to carry air from headlamp openings to the rear radiators, obviating a requirement for side scoops as on earlier McLarens and most other mid-engine GTs.
18. This small strut between inner and outer door volumes maintains structural rigidity on the complex door structure.
19. The backlight and transparent panels in the C-pillars offer clear rear vision with the sharp inward plan-view taper of the upper structure.
20. Lateral trenches continue even aft of the radiators, serving as additional heat outlets for the engine compartment.
21. Bodywork below the roof ends with an undulating line on the air brake/wing in both plan and direct rear views, providing maximum visual length to the body ensemble.
22. The color-separation line on the rear is also shaped carefully to look good from any angle, a real sculptural feat.
23. This is a problem area. A panel-break line runs to the wheel opening, but the rising line does not actually meet the flat bank around the upper half of the wheel opening. Itâs all a little amorphous and unresolved.
24. The lowest point in the new tub is well forward, making it much easier to swing your feet into the cockpit compared to the earlier cars, which were contortionistsâ delights.
25. Notice how carefully the shape of the front-fender air outlet is harmonized with the main body contours. It must have taken hundreds of hours of observation to achieve this.
Scale of the hexagonal grille pattern seems exactly, perfectly proportioned to the size of the openings and of the car, again a sign of intense attention to visual detail in the 720S design.
26. Yes, this looks like the Formula 1 devices seen even on Japanese sedans these days, but it hides a substantial outlet for wheelhouse air and directs it down the side.
27. The leading edge of the airbrake wing flap completes a fluid three-dimensional curve deriving from the rear grille surround.
28. Side marker lamps are small bits of jewelry, the upper perimeter aligning with the rising panel-break line on the body side.
29. When I see this detail, I always ask whether engineers talk with stylists about where the exhaust goes. These cutouts in the form are as sad as the little cuts in the bottom of economy car bumpers.
30. This little line of orange stitches is a particularly nice touch, repeated on seats and tunnel.
31. Mirrors are big, well positioned, and effective.
32. Rotated into normal position, the digital instrument panel provides the usual information you might want on the road, along with supplemental instrumentation and a classic tachometer face.
33. The data screen is nicely sized and oriented to the driver.
34. Subtly restrained flashes of color in the cockpit are elegant and welcoming.
35. Note the center of the hub and McLaren badge are not at all the same as the center of the wheel itself, a bit of tromp lâoeil trickery quite common in interior design practice.
36. The minimalist, maximum-performance setting for the instrument cluster provides information about which gear is engaged, revs, and speed.
37. Front-fender profile is defined by a peak line well outboard of the principal body mass, separated by a wide channel.
38. The roofâs centerline profile is magnificent, capturing the feel of a fighter-plane canopy perfectly.
39. The turbo radiator-inlet efficiency is enhanced by the hard edge above the opening, indenting the body side to provide more frontal area for ram air along the lower body.
40. This painted band is carefully proportioned to keep a sense of lightness around the front end, about the same visual weight as the section sweeping inward below the headlamp aperture âŚ
41. ⌠the inner sweep of which initiates the front-fender profile.

3.4.1 Week 4 Discussion
What projected events on your timeline did you achieve this month?
As a part of the first class that I took on my mastery journey, I assigned three goals for each of the classes in my program. This month I took a class on Visual and Verbal Communication. My goals for this class were: I want to learn how to create a narrative with images, I want to learn more about how people perceive color and the effects color has on human psychology, and I want to learn the benefits of one font versus a separate font regarding digital media versus print media. Through our discussions and projects, I feel as though I have accomplished each of the goals that I set for this month.
Earlier in the month we created an infographic which evolved into an interactive presentation as the month progressed. The infographic as an individual entity contains a narrative that is told through visual data elements. My personal favorite part of creating the infographic was the scalable wind turbines. Later in the course, we added a recorded audio narrative to the infographic. Clark and Mayer said, âWhen pictures are explained by words in an audio format, the information is divided between the audio and the visual channels of working memoryâ (Reiser & Dempsey, 2012, p. 317). This lesson taught me that by appealing to two senses, visual and auditory, we reduce the cognitive load from the visual portion of the brain.
I have not taken an art class since the 1980âs. As a result, my knowledge of color coming into this course was minimal at best. Learning about how people perceive color is a topic that I have been excited about ever since I decided to enroll in this program. In our book âPeters (2013) states, âFor example, since our brains identify color as a function of red/green and blue/yellow differentials, red text on a green background requires use of the same pathway (traffic jam!) and is therefore difficult to seeâ (Strategies to Support Visual Perception, para. 1).â This is wonderful information that I can incorporate into the training materials that I create for my department immediately.
I create both physical and virtual training materials on a regular basis. The knowledge that certain fonts are better for one medium versus the other will dictate all my future font choices. âPeters (2013) states, âConsider using one of the growing number of typefaces designed specifically for screen reading like Verdana, Tahoma, Georgia, or Azuâ (Strategies to Reduce Overload, para. 26).â I am currently attempting to evolve my class into a green classroom. Therefore, if I want the majority of my material to be virtual, then I will need to use fonts that compliment a digital medium.
I did not anticipate working in Keynote this month. Until now, all the presentations that I have created have been through PowerPoint. Logically I know that at their core, the two systems are similar but emotionally I felt like I had never done this before. Just when I felt confident with creating PowerPoint presentations, I discover a whole new world in Keynote. That must be what it felt like when Aristotle finally started to convince people that the Earth was round. More than anything, my newness influenced my timeliness because I had to learn where everything was located. I really like how the pie chart in my presentation turned out. It started life as a bar on our infographic, I turned it into a pie chart for my first draft, and then I cut out the middle so that it could be a donut chart. The best part is that I made the final version 3-D. That took me an entire day to learn how to do that. If that was my high point, then my low would be learning GarageBand. Once again, this is a system that I have never used before. However; I am not going to let my unfamiliarity slow me down. I intend to play with GarageBand until I become an expert.
Going forward with this yearlong journey, what adjustments could you make to ensure your future success in achieving mastery?
During our week one reading, I discovered a quote that I have adopted as a mantra and I have passed it on to anyone that will listen. âPeters (2013) says that, âAntoine de Saint-ExupĂŠry put it more elegantly when he said, âIt seems that perfection is reached not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left to take awayââ (Why aesthetics matter, para. 2).â Images and text on instructional materials should exist to inform the learner. Unnecessary elements and overly wordy text can overwhelm the audience and limit their ability to retain information. I want to adjust my thinking and apply this perspective to the projects that I create during my mastery journey and beyond.
The design skills that I possessed prior to enrolling in this program were all self-taught. My job requires me to creating instructional materials so when I was hired, I Googled presentations and watched everything that I could find. Unfortunately, I teach a class on financial aid and the majority of presentations that I could find on that topic were prepared by federal employees and they are terrible. The presentations that I gravitated towards were all sales based; therefore, that is a style that I brought with me to the classroom. Clark and Mayer said, âThe goals of learning unlike the goals of advertising or the goals of video games rely on effortful processing of information to build new knowledge skillsâ (Reiser & Dempsey, 2012, p. 318). I know that the goals of learning are a concept that I need to learn to be successful in my program.
When I look at the materials that I create, I see a nice aesthetic but I am not always confident that I am maximizing the instructional aspect of the material. Clark and Mayer said, âSeductive details in lessons are typically related to the general topic but are irrelevant to the main instructional goalâ (Reiser & Dempsey, 2012, p. 317). As I progress through this program I am gradually shedding the bad habits that I created through self-teaching and replacing them with informed habits that I am obtaining from a formal education. Lynda courses have been a large part of my evolution ever since I began this program because they are focused on instruction as opposed to advertising. I am trying to watch them to learn the material as well as to learn about the style that the instructors use.
My major obstacle this month was writing in APA style. I am trying to take my time and proofread, but for some reason, I keep making mistakes. Earlier this week, I copied the APA cheat sheet that we were given into an excel spreadsheet so that I can separate things visually. My long-term objective is to become a college professor. Critiquing written work is a large part of that job; therefore, I am determined to master APA style so that I can help my students when they struggle.
