#I feel like a lot of people are giving riot way too much credit for them being gay when in reality we don't get any confirmation

arcane spoilers below!!
i am somewhat conflicted about the ending, but also very happy?!?!? the pacing of the finale seemed the most choppy, but up until then i really appreciated how things flowed!!
my first reaction was ‘so this is it?’ then i realized that they gave us so much to ponder about and discuss!
plus, it’s riot so this isn’t the end. either they’ll do some major in-game lore updates, a new series of other runeterra areas that ties things together or something to at least throw us a bone LOL, and at the same time with ambessa being dead it proves that characters in-game don’t necessarily need to be alive to be within the game so this entire story is very separate from what we know and there’s where i’m sorta stuck
ive played LoL since 2012 so i’ve known viktor, jayce, vi, jinx, ekko, etc for sooo long and knowing what they’re like in-game/voice lines had me too fixated on assuming what the ending would be like without realizing they’re obviously going to do some major changes which i’m sooo excited about!!!
so i may not be the most satisfied, but i think that stems from having too many expectations from what i already know and the longer i think about it the more i’m feeling quite happy and bittersweet about it 🥹
sevika being a councilwoman?? jayvik being in gay eternity together? and mel being a noxian now???
also want to interject bc i saw some things about no one really “caring” abt jayce/viktor vanishing but did they really have anyone but each other at that point? they had seen far too much about the arcane, and been through so much together that it only seems the most fitting for them to end things together. mel and cait have way more things to worry about than jayce and viktor genuinely didn’t have anyone but him 😭✋
to sum up my thoughts… i think they tied up a lot more loose ends than people are giving them credit for and the more i am given time to think it over the more it just makes me sad and happy because it’s not the stupid happy ending i wanted but that was never going to be the intent of arcane! it was always going to be some wild ending that through everyone in for a loop and i should’ve expected that hahaha
anyways!! back to writing 😏
P.S. — what happened to heimerdinger??? LMAO

any time man! I empathize with um.. being apart of Jigsaw’s sick games.. it’s awful. and it’s all you ever end up being known for. it’s upsetting, and I don’t wanna make ANY other victims feel like that!
the Dead Kennedys are really cool! my friend likes em a whole lot and I think they make neat tunes!! im not big on the punk music stuff but I have a lot of punk beliefs.
speaking of beliefs— are you religious? do you believe in a god?
do you think it’s funny that god spelt backwards is dog? dogs are a godsend I think, but I’ve always been more of a cat person. cats or dogs, if ya had ta picksie?? :-)
you seem like a cat kinda guy. I think you and my cat would get along, his name’s Cyclops cuz’ he’s missin’ an eye!!
do you have any pets? do you want to? do you liek snakes? what’s your favorite mythological creature?
- 🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜
Ah, I take it he may have fucked with you too? Kramer's an asshole, but up give credit where its due, his work ethic is pretty damn impressive. He's got more victims than I've got crumpled up tissues under my bed - and I've got a LOT of crimped up tissues under my bed.
Jokes aside, hope it isn't messing with you too bad, it gets rough sometimes.
DK is awesome, I got a few posters of them around my apartment.
I'm not religious at all. I got nothing against what other people believe, but I think organised religion is a scam.
I like dogs, but I like cats more, they're not as high maintenance. If I were a more active person I would probably have a dog, but I don't think I'd look after it very well right now. I could handle a cat better, but I wouldn't wanna risk it at the minute. I'm pretty broke and I couldn't afford vet bills if it got sick.
I think I would really get along with your cat, I like cats much better than people lol. He sounds like a cute guy.
I like snakes, when I was a kid I really wanted a pet one, but there was never a good time. I like to think one day I'll be loaded and I'll be able to afford a bunch of animals, maybe I should cash in on this while jigsaw thing and write a book, try and make that dream come true lol.
My favourite mythical creature is probably the Keres. They were these spirits that ate people who died in violent ways, or something like that, and they were all women. I used to date this girl who was in a riot grrrl band, and she referenced them a lot in her lyrics, I always thought the concept was pretty cool.

And I realize this is hinted at in the first act where Arthur goes to the Labs for Cod Liver Oil, there's a couple notes before the fight with the Bobby that states Sally created Strawberry. In the game, Sally is the better Chemist, compared to Verloc who is hyperfocused on a Permanent Solution. In the 'We All Fall Down' DLC, the workers at the Labs start a riot over wanting Sally back, which implies she was a better boss and more efficient. Anyways, I'm like 98% sure this is Canon, but I am curious to read your take on it if you have one, I know it's just a small thing but the grip We Happy Few on me is iron strong.
So Sally was never in a managerial position at Haworth Labs. She was Verloc's research assistant and so her job was to work closely with him on formulation, not to oversee any part of production. Sally claims to have been correcting his calculations in one of her journals and there's dialogue from the more elaborate cut version of the Haworth Labs quest implying this was known or at least assumed throughout the organization.
But before we start fawning over how much more brilliant and clever Sally is compared to Verloc, let us consider:
Despite Sally's view that the Permanent Solution was always a joint endeavor on their part, Verloc is the one who is ultimately responsible for delivering on it. That it's solely his responsibility is why she can leave the labs and abandon him to it at all.
As such, Verloc's under a lot more stress to produce than Sally was then and he continues to be now. On top of the Byngs breathing down his neck and possibly other extenuating stressors makin' his life hard, he's dealing with the emotional upheaval of his girlfriend of three years ghosting him and setting herself up as competition to his business. As a result, he's fucking up his math and - without Sally to proofread them - shit's exploding and his labs are in disarray.
But... are not Sally's labs also exploding and in disarray now that she too is solely responsible for producing a product critical to the city's governance while under extreme external stresses?
When the factory workers in We All Fall Down demand Sally's return, maybe they think she'd be a better boss. But they really have nothing to base that on, aside from that her presence was facilitating Verloc's better work. I suspect she'd not actually be any better at managing than Verloc is.
'Cause it is two separate jobs, you know. Verloc and Sally both are chemists; they are not managers. And frankly, neither of them are as good at dealing with people as they think they are.
Verloc lacks empathy with his staff and so his demanding managerial approach does not endear him to them. They do not feel supported by his leadership and, in view of his flagging practical ability too, they revolt.
Sally, I think, would have the opposite problem. She's not a strong leader either. She thinks of herself as a master man handler, but what does she actually do? She simpers, she cajoles, she wheedles. It's all meek little coquette bullshit and you cannot run a factory that way. These workers would walk all over her.
And that's just with the men. Aside from Dr. Faraday (who is hilariously similar to Dr. Verloc in temperament), Sally is notoriously unable to get along with women either.
Well, with one other notable exception...
So while I don't have a problem with giving Sally the credit for Strawberry Joy, I do think it bears remembering that she didn't come up with it on her own. I'll certainly not disparage the initiative that looking outside of one's own discipline takes, especially in view that Verloc was particularly dismissive of the idea until it worked. It does seem though that Sally's greatest achievements require some consultation with the Witches first. A large part of her act is asking them to teach her how to reformulate her own Blackberry formula to use alternative ingredients.
So to the question of who is the better chemist?
Hard to say. I think they have both have severe detriments to their approaches. Verloc can't do the math correctly under pressure and he's even fucking up Strawberry, a known and finalized formula, because it relies on herbalism and he has no knowledge of it. Sally, aside from party drugs and Blackberry, seems to need the Witches' help with her inventions. Without their advice, her concoctions sometimes have noticeably bad side effects.
Like pregnancy, for instance.

top 5 lifeseries seasons
RAAHHH 🔥🔥🔥‼️ wow it is so funny there’s exactly 5 of them tgat’s so crazy. unfortunately this is a question that plagues me
1. 3rd life. that feels like a cop out because it is The Classic and i truly didn’t think anything would dethrone last life but ? i’ve reflected on it (by which i mean i’ve rewatched last life a million billion times as part of the completionist grind) and i’ve realized like. i don’t think i super love last life as a season, i just remember the completely insane fandom atmosphere that the time with a lot of fondness. so 3RD LIFE 💥💥💥💥 i’ve been thinkin a lot about treebark recently…… also look at my pfp cmon brother
2. secret life. maybe it’s just because it’s the most recent full season but genuinely it was SUCH a riot, by far my favorite season to rewatch, everyone’s got something uniquely stupid going on and also like ? usually when it becomes to alliances there’s always a couple duds for me, like at least one per season that i just never had much to say about, but i genuinely think i could have a paragraph prepared about any of the groups in secret life. this may be subject to change but ❤️
3. limited life. im sorry who would i be if i didn’t put martyns winning season in at least top 3. i know limlife is divisive but personally the time gimmick Really did it for me, the fact that death was cheaper meant it’s by Far the season with the most carnage, that map was complete fucking rubble by the time it was over. i know a lot of people didn’t like skynet and truthfully i would’ve hated it in any other season, but it added such an interesting landscape to the season, having to always reach for higher ground and watch the skies all the time made the combat incredibly distinct and just. ugh. when the pvp changes as a result of the seasons themes ❤️ limlife i love u im sorry nobody appreciates you you’re my darling forever
4. double life. genuinely double life used to be my least favorite season?? idk the soulmate pairs made alliances a little too insular for my taste but it has grown on me a LOT as of late. divorce quartet you were iconic. ranchers you will always be famous. forfeit all mortal possessions to pearlescentmoon.
5. i cannot BELIEVE last life dropped from first to last since the last time i ranked them. that would’ve been fucking unthinkable to me a year ago. but i just. don’t super love rewatching last life? i have a LOT of good things to say about it, and i think it laid a lot more groundwork than anyone gives it credit for, and OHHH MY GODDDD sorry i have NEVER seen a season quite as completely steeped in dread as last life was. i just. feel like it kind of drags a little bit too much for me, and maybe i’m just bored of it because i’ve seen it a million times. however EVERYONE SHOULD GO WATCH MARTYNS LAST LIFE NOWWWW GO WATCH IT NOW 💥💥💥💥💥 OR DIE BY MY HAND.
honorable mention real life was the funniest shit i’ve ever seen and i wouldn’t have wanted cleo to win any other way. fuck em up queen ❤️

this is a simple comment about credits that devolved into a song rant; proceed with caution.
while i absolutely think that artists should get credit for their work, i also think that with video games specifically with games being as massive as they are these days it Kinda Sucks when the game ends and you can't skip hour long credits. as much of a bethesda hater i am, i definitely feel like the optimal way to do it is their way; which is to say just having the credits as an option on the front screen. honestly just like. give me a list i can scroll through at my own pace. let me speedrun your credits. have there be a dedicated speedrunning scene for people who can read credits out loud as fast as possible
i remember when i beat cyberpunk 2077, "hour long" credits wasn't really an exaggeration. at the very least, it was like 40 minutes minimum, unskippable, and with a terrible fucking cover of never fade away, a song i genuinely fucking love. i get it, ok, i get that there were a lot of hands in that pie, but given how immediately during the credits i saw characters i interacted with messaging me (cool & good!!!!), i assumed that there might be something throughout the whole thing. there wasn't. and did i mention that i fucking hate that cover of never fade away??? it dragged, never fade away is a short, tight song that has fucking perfect pacing and doesn't overstay its welcome. i'm not saying that i don't like longer songs (i regularly listen to 40 minute long songs), but when you start off with a relatively short song and try to stretch it out a while, you better know what you're fucking doing!!!! it took this punchy, upbeat riot song and made it a mind numbingly slow generic sounding soft pop song!!!! the lady singing would pause for like 10 whole seconds between "a thing of beauty......" and "i know...." and then pause for another 10 whole seconds before she gets to the "will never fade away...." and even when she was saying the words, she drew it out like i've been fucking shot in the gut and i'm slowly bleeding out painfully for an entire fucking hour.
compare this to a similar concept of "short song lengthened to feature length", america by simon and garfunkle then covered by yes. yes is one of the greatest bands of all time, and they essentially made an entirely new song that worked on its own as a song, and then added the old lyrics to it!!!!! they took a kinda mediocre ok song and made what i have personally deemed, The Only Good America (in general, not just in song form). seriously, listen to them side by side. all 4 songs. it's like, the inverse examples. with america, you start off with a short song that's ok at best and lengthen it into unrecognizability, and it makes one of the best songs of all time. you start off with never fade away, while i wouldn't say it's One Of The Songs Of All Time, i still fuckiing love it, and they lengthened it into unrecognizability but didn't do anything unique enough with it therefore giving me the feeling of waiting in a fucking doctors office when the doctor's running too late and it's taking forever and your phone's about to die so you can't just use it and even if it wasn't the doctor has a fucking service blocker for some fucking reason so you wouldn't have internet even if you had the charge to use it.

4. Do you regret getting involved in any fandoms?
Probably when I was a teenager, like tumblr pre-2018 was a hell hole. A wonderful, filled with content hell hole, but dear god it was still a hell hole. At least on my end.
6. List your OTP from each fandom you’ve been involved in.
UHHHH, I haven't really written for many other fandoms besides Arcane and Star Wars but here are some OTPs from fandoms I like in no order besides me remembering them
World of Warcraft: Tyrande/Malfurion, Jania/Slyvanas (there's some good fics out there rip), Jania/Tyrande (I just wanna see her happy in the arms of a lady love), Vol'jin/Tyrathan Khort, Slyvanas/Nathanos (but only from Makaniart's art, that's the entire reason for my shipping of that), Wrathion/My Pussy, also Vol'jin/My pussy
Star Wars: OCs/OCs (seriously I write this stuff still, I just won't ever post it, it's my little happy series), My Swtor characters/Lana, Padme/Ani, Mando/Reader, Obi-Wan/Reader, Darth Maul/Reader (pretty much any main dude /reader)
LOTR: Gimli/Legolas (read an entire 150k fic one time about it. God it was good), Aragorn/Arwen
Mass Effect: SHAKARIAN
Dragon Age: Solas x F!Trevalyan (I may have spelled that wrong. Also please see @designfailure56's sibbe x solas content and tell me it's not cute. I dare ya), Solas x Anyone really (used to hate the egg, but now egg is cute. and also a pain in the ass still, but still) Ironbull/Inquisitor, Morrigan/HoF, Hawke/Fenris
Asoiaf: Brienne/Jamie, Margery/Sansa, Dany/Sansa, Viserys/Getting pegged
16. Are their any popular ships in your fandom which you dislike?
For any fandom my number one NOTP is:
Arthas x Jania or Thrall x Jania. if she wanted a man she'd have a man, simple.
For Arcane, any Proshipping ones, and I'm not the biggest Ca!tv! fan (I will write about them being together because I do like them it's more like Riot held them back and you can tell, and it makes me sad. I don't feel like they got enough confirmation for people's reactions if that makes sense? Like if the genders were reversed, we'd be talking about the biggest queer baiting in history, because they don't even kiss in the show or get confirmed as a couple. And I want it to be, but I hate riot tip toeing around it. Having their cake and eating it too kinda shit.)
31. What’s the nicest thing someone has ever said about your writing?
Answered already over here!
#me realizing I like a lot of lesbian pairings#that's not a surprise to me at all#censoring out the name of the ship cause I don't wanna bring bad vibes into their space#I feel like a lot of people are giving riot way too much credit for them being gay when in reality we don't get any confirmation#the writers say one thing but writers say that shit all the time and then the company behind them doesn't let that happen#it was defintely riot testing out the waters for the ship#when in reality we should've seen something#idk man it just feels gross to me#like even with their pride stuff#we've gotten like four league characters confirmed as gay?#they're not even in those four#I'm mad about corporations doing this just cause it's like having their cake and eating it too#'don't piss off the homophobes or dudes that still want to fuck them but make it clear they're into each other but not stepping over that l#ine#i ranted in the tags again#sweaty asks#ask game

Could you repeat the question?
pairing: Taehyung x reader, oc x Yeonjun (TXT)
premise: a joint interview with your group, BTS, and TXT two months after you met your soulmate.
word count: 2k
[2/2] continuation of Can’t Keep My Hands To Myself
requested by anon - a picture of your request will be at the bottom of the post!
------------------------------------------
“Please don’t tell them.”
“Me? Why would I say anything?”
“You...you have that look.”
Yeonjun whirls around to face Taehyung, who just entered the room. “Do I have a look?”
Taehyung winks at you in greeting, something that nearly makes you swoon and your group members snicker.
“A look?” He frowns for a moment before giving his dongsaeng a pitiful smile. “Oh yeah, you do. Definitely.” Taehyung smiles at Jiwoo, my band member who is busy sending death glares at her soulmate. “He’s gonna spill it.”
Yeonjun jumps up from his seat at the same time Taehyung settles down beside you, placing his arm on the back of the couch and brushing your hair off to the side. It’s enough to make goosebumps rise on your skin, which of course he notices.
Oh, how you’d like to wipe that knowing little smirk off his face right now.
“I can’t believe this! I’m not going to say a thing-”
“Yeonjun, and I’m saying this with love, if you say a single thing about it, I will personally unplug your refrigerator when you least expect it.”
Your attention is pulled away when you feel Taehyung leaning in to whisper something in your ear. “So, do we know what they’re arguing about?”
You can’t help but giggle. “Nope. Jiwoo won’t say anything.”
“Neither will Yeonjun.”
The smitten couple have been teasingly arguing for the entirety of the morning, leaving the rest of us in complete and utter confusion.
Oh well, I suppose it’ll help make the broadcast a bit more exciting.
It’s been two months since Jiwoo and I first *ahem* teleported to our soulmates at the MAMA awards. Or rather, since I landed in Taehyung’s lap and Jiwoo was nearly knocked unconscious when Yeonjun was thrown into her at full force. Of course, Jiwoo claims that it was horribly embarrassing, to which I’m always quick to say that she should feel lucky that at least she didn’t end up in a grown man’s lap. For all to see, no less.
Ari, our other group member, just rolls her eyes and tells us that beggars can’t be choosers.
Yeah, whatever that means.
The past two months have been busy, with hardly enough time to spend with my soulmate. Between the busy schedules and BTS and TXT and our own schedule, we’ve had to settle for late-night FaceTimes and the occasional lunch at the Bighit building. I’ve become really good at sneaking in and out of that building in broad daylight - so far I have yet to be discovered.
Today, however, is an important one. It’s our first official schedule together as soulmates. Naturally, all three groups have come together for the interview/variety show.
“Alright, time to head on!” A manager shouts into the room, and suddenly there’s a flurry of movement as we all head toward the door. “I need all the soulmates to stick to their own groups, ok? We don’t want to be causing a riot today.”
Right. With a gloomy expression, Taehyung parts from me to head back to his members. Jiwoo and I glue ourselves to Ari’s side, much to her chagrin. “Ready?”
Both you and Jiwoo respond simultaneously. “Nope.”
Ari just sighs, feigning annoyance. Together, the three of you await your cue as one by one, your groups are introduced.
TXT goes first, the hosts making a big deal out of swooning over Soobin who now has a cult of his own due to his MC abilities. They make a show of handing the microphone over to him, begging him to take it over from there. He politely declines, while the rest of the boys bicker and chat in the background.
Then your group is called out, and you find yourself walking out before a huge crowd. You didn’t realize that many people could fit in this building, but here they are. And all of them are here for the same reason: to get a look at the soulmate couples that have newly formed.
And that have been trending on Twitter and Tumblr for two solid months, breaking all kinds of records.
As BTS is introduced with an almost reverent tone, you understand why you’ve been trending for so long.
It has a lot to do with one of the men walking out right now, smiling at the crowd and waving, graciously bowing his way across the stage.
Taehyung wears a gray casual suit which has him looking like he just stepped off a photoshoot. Hair perfectly styled and eyes glowing with adoration for the fans that roar and wave, he commands the entire room with a single raise of his eyebrows.
Your soulmate, ladies and gentlemen.
Today is the day where you prove to the rest of the world how much of a perfect match you are for this man. The notion is terrifying.
“Wow!” The host, a jovial man named Donghyun shouts out, exaggerating how amazed he is by the crowd’s reaction to all three groups sharing the same stage. Indeed, it’s a rare sight. “Ok! Should we get started?”
After a few minutes of more introductions, a few cursory questions (he asks Yeonjun what he’s been up to recently and you’re pretty sure Jiwoo manages to telepathically threaten him, because he chooses the most vague answer imaginable), and instructions on how to begin the next activities, you’re off to the races.
Painting races, that it.
Donning a frock and eyeing the empty canvas before you, you glare at your opponent across the way. Taehyung, to his credit, refrains from winking at you. He thinks you’re adorable when you’re flustered, but now’s not the time.
“Taehyung-ssi!”
Taehyung blinks up at Donghyun. “Yes?”
Are you going to let your soulmate win?”
The game is simple: paint the listed object with as much detail as possible in a sixty second period. The others will have to guess what it is.
Taehyung pouts his lips a bit, glancing over at you with a glint in his eye. “I’ll have to see, I think.”
Donghyun chuckles into the mic, turning to face you. “What about you? If Taehyung-ssi falls behind, will you help him win?”
You wiggle your eyebrows at your soulmate, heart soaring when he delivers a boxy grin. “Oh, of course not. I came to compete, not hold hands.”
The crowd bursts out laughing, and someone yells out, “I’ll hold his hand for you!”
You all dissolve into a fit of laughter at that, your cheeks blushing madly. “Yeah, thanks for the offer,” you say between giggles. Readying your paint brush, you wait for the signal.
You’ve been given the word ‘Iceland’, which you figure shouldn’t be too hard.
What you failed to account for was the fact that you’re perhaps the worst painter you know. What should look like a globe looks like a basketball and what should be a cube of ice instead looks like nothing more than a cardboard box.
In the end, you’re pretty sure you laugh more than you paint. Your team members, consisting of a mix from both teams, look utterly confused at the end product. Eventually it’s Jin - who happens to be on Taehyung’s team - that accidentally calls out the answer.
The rest of the games pass by in a blur of laughter and covert glances toward Taehyung. He always manages to find a way to make you laugh, even though he remains on the other side of the stage for the most part. You don’t miss all of the fans that look at him dreamily, and you can only hope that they’re happy with your overall performance today.
At the end, you all squeeze onto a couple of couches. Donghyun makes a fuss over allowing the soulmates to sit together, and you can’t hide your smile as a beet-red Yeonjun sidles down to the couch to sit beside Jiwoo, placing his hands in his lap and trying not to do anything that will go viral.
Taehyung sits on your right, crossing his arms in a way that pulls on his suit jacket enough to expose the outline of his biceps. You catch your eyes wandering, snapping your attention back to the front where Donghyun reads some questions off of a card.
“I believe that this was the first time soulmates have met while performing at MAMA, is that correct? What were your first thoughts when you suddenly found yourselves face to face with your soulmate?”
The four of you that now have all the attention riding on your shoulders look to each other for help. Finally, with a racing heart, you answer first.
“I think the obvious answer is that I was shocked,” you smile as knowing chuckles ripple through the room. “But I was also really grateful, because Taehyung was so kind and understanding. The staff were very professional and helped us quickly. Overall, I really can’t imagine it having happened in any other way.”
There’s a few ooh’s and aww’s that greet your ears, but you look down at your lap as you blush. Taehyung slightly nudges your knee with his own, and in that simple movement you feel the comfort that he’s trying to give you.
“I’d actually been talking to Jiminie earlier about soulmates,” Taehyung pipes up.
“Oh, yeah! That’s right!” Jimin says, giving his friend a slap on the shoulder. “What are the odds?”
Taehyung flashes a shy smile. “I told him that I felt like I was ready. It can be strangely lonely sometimes, and there are times when I just felt like I was missing something. Now, all I have to do is pick up my phone and my missing piece is on the other side, ready to talk with me.”
Now people are really swooning, you included. You dare to peek over at your soulmate, heart nearly melting when you see that his shy smile is paired with pink cheeks. You wish that you could snuggle up to him right now, but that would definitely not end well. Instead, you lightly nudge his knee with your own, returning the little slice of comfort he provided you earlier.
“And you two?” Dongyun asks after wiping fake tears away from his eyes.
Yeonjun chews on his bottom lip, Jiwoo too lost in thought to notice that he has that look again.
“I, er...” Yeonjun begins, squirming a little in his seat. “I was...really happy.”
Donghyun urges Yeonjun to continue. “Of course you were! What about finding Jiwoo made you so happy?”
Jiwoo looks up in horror, but it’s too late. Yeonjun has already opened his mouth and begun to speak.
“I was so happy because the first thing she said to me was that she thought I was so hot.”
Radio silence.
And then-
“Oh-ho!! Yeonjunnie you’re so dead!” Hueningkai laughs, and soon everyone follows suit. Even Donghyun has to throw his hand over his mouth to keep himself from snorting with laughter.
Jiwoo looks at Yeonjun, who completely avoids her gaze as he stares unblinking at the floor. Then, quietly enough for nobody to hear except for you who sits beside her, she whispers, “Say goodbye to all the perishable items in your fridge.”
In the chaos that ensues, Taehyung discreetly traces circles against your arm and mumbles, “Why didn’t you say that to me when we first met?”
You smack his shoulder. “I should be asking you the same thing!”
Just before everything calms down again, Taehyung leans over to grab the abandoned canvas on the ground. Taking the still-wet paint and dipping his finger into it, he draws something out on it. Nudging you to get your attention, he flashes the canvas for you to see, hiding it from the cameras.
It’s hard to keep a neutral expression as you see his handiwork. It’s just six words, but they’re enough to have your entire face flushed a moment later.
I think you’re hotter than Yeonjun ;)
Stifling a laugh, you roll your eyes. “I hope you know I’m keeping that,” you mumble. Taehyung grins.
“Great. We’ll get it framed.”
A few days later, you do. It hangs in the front room of your apartment, for all to see. And for Jiwoo to loathe, as it serves as a constant reminder of her embarrassing first words to her soulmate.
Oh well. In the words of Ari, “Beggars can’t be choosers.”

You Are More Than Enough ⚡️🧱
Alpha Kirishima x F! Beta Reader x Alpha Kaminari
Requested by @lizwello
Words: 4K
Summary: Your two alphas, Kaminari and Kirishima, ease your insecurities due to your Beta status
⚠️NSFW⚠️
(Not my art. Please credit the artist if you know their handle💕)
Biology failed you; instead of having a mouthwatering scent like an Omega or the strong presence of an Alpha, you were born a Beta. That means that you were normally the third choice for everyone (even for your fellow Betas).
Your entire life you’ve always felt like a secondary character in the lives of your friends (which was somewhat expected but it still hurt) and even yourself. Your omega friends were being courted while your alpha friends were doing the courting. Where did that leave you? Alone. Unwanted.
Media and schooling has a lot to do with your low self-confidence. Betas make up 90% of the population yet, alphas and omegas are the ones that get the glory. The media portrays the alpha as a possessive lover over the meek, submissive omega. The media romanticizes it so much that it becomes the ideal relationship. The media doesn’t show Betas being with omegas or alphas. No, Betas must mate with Betas.
Sometimes, there are exceptions to everything. Alphas can be with alphas. Omegas can be with Betas. Omegas can be with Omegas (it’s rare but it has happened once before). Naturally, you expected you’d end up with another Beta. How could you not?
It makes sense; from a biological standpoint, omegas bodies and pheromones are meant for an alpha. Alphas knots are meant to be taken by an omega’s sweet body.
Shiketsu High School was a relatively peaceful school (which was completely different from U.A. when you had been in attendance). You had graduated at the top of your class, alongside Inasa, and had been invited to join All Might’s hero agency. You supposed it was only a matter of time before pro-heroes started to approach you with job opportunities given your quirk.
Born with the power of fear manipulation, you’d think you had a better grip of your own fears. Everyday, you went into the minds of villains and used their weaknesses against them however, you never thought about your own. You didn’t fear anything physical so, you suppose you’d call your fear mental-maybe emotional. A fear of not being good enough.
So, when you started the job, you were fearful of what to expect. How would your co-workers treat you? Would anyone be interested in you?
You know you may sound desperate but you can’t help it. Maybe it was the lack of experience from your youth or your pessimistic view of the world but, you wanted the same love you saw around you. After all, isn’t that what everyone wants? To feel loved?
Your first day at All Might’s agency was something you’ll never forget. He wanted you there early so you could meet your comrades before they started their patrolling. You remember how he dwarfed you even in his skinny stature.
“Do you have any questions?” His hand was softly ushering you into one of the debriefing rooms. “Don’t be afraid to ask. Anything to do with your quirk? Or, maybe work hours? Or-“
“Sir, I think you’re more nervous than I am,” perhaps it’s because he’s an alpha. It’s his preposition to fret about the health and comfort of others.
“Sorry,” he laughs and rubs the back of his neck, cerulean eyes glancing down at you. “Young Midoriya always tells me I’m like a mother hen. I just want you to feel comfortable. Most of everyone that works here went to U.A. so I know you may feel singled out.”
A silence was the only response he got; you’d be damned if you ever said anything for him or anyone else to pity you. You didn’t get to be this strong because of pity.
“EVERYONE, GATHER AROUND. THE NEW HERO IS HERE,” everyone came rushing in with their colorful costumes on display. The pro-hero ‘Deku’ was the first to greet you in an excited frenzy.
“Y/N, I’m Deku. Well, Izuku Midoriya but everyone calls me Deku. What’s your quirk? All Might wouldn’t tell us,” you know notice the notebook he holds in his hand.
“Why do you need to know? You want to know my weaknesses?” You quirk your brow and feel your guard going back up. Behind you, All Might was noticing your combative attitude, noting it will definitely take a while for you to fit in.
“Wha-no, no, no. Nothing like that. I-I just wanted to know,” he’s sputtering when a brown-haired woman comes to his side.
“You’ll have to excuse Deku. He just gets excited about quirks. He’s documented all of ours so he can analyze them and give us suggestions to help us reach our greatest potential,” the woman smiles at the blubbering greenette. “I’m Uraraka.”
“Nice to meet you. I’m Y/N.”
“Stop hogging her,” it’s like time started lagging. Your eyes fell on a blonde with a fringe, his fringe having a black light night strip. He’s lean in stature but, his eyes are the type of honey blonde that could stop anyone in their tracks (although it’s a shame he’s wearing blue tinted glasses that simmer the color). “Woah.”
“Woah?” You cross your arms across your chest.
“Yes, woah. You’re beautiful,” you turn bright red. “And, responsive. You smell good too.”
The next moment he’s stuck on your neck, pulling you by the back of your head so he can expose more of your scent to his nose. Your mouth waters at how good he smells as well.
“DENKI! You can’t go around smelling and scenting people without their permission,” from what you can see, the man admonishing the alpha on your neck has fire engine red eyes and bright red hair. You can catch glimpses of his sharp teeth when he speaks but your mind focuses on his lips. You look further down to see his torso exposed, body hard with muscle. “Woah.”
“This is Y/N. The new hero I was telling you all about last week. Please treat her with respect and make her feel at home,” All Might was smiling down at you.
“I’m Kirishima. The one scenting you is Kaminari,” you just nod till Kaminari is finished and let’s go. Even if it’s only for a second, Kirishima replaces Kaminari’s place on your body, fogging your mind up once again. You want to whine at the strong scents but you keep that to yourself. They’re probably just playing with you.
“Both of you, give her some space,” All Might’s demand is enough for them to take a few steps back but, you can still smell them as if they’re still on you. “You okay, Y/N?”
“I’m fine.”
And, you were fine for a while till, you kept getting closer with the two alphas that scented you on your first day. You knew they were special. They were close, not mates but, close enough for anyone that didn’t know them to think so. You couldn’t tell what their relationship was but, they welcomed you into their duo with no questions asked, making their duo a trio.
“She’s the one,” even without knowing you for long, Kirishima can tell you’re meant for him and Kaminari.
“Just look at how perfect she is,” Denki fawns at you from across the room. “She doesn’t smile much. Luckily, I have so many jokes for her,” Kirishima facepalms as Kaminari gives him his signature thumbs up.
“I have a feeling you’re going to drive her up a tree, aren’t you?” Kaminari nods. “Well, at least make sure you don’t push her too much.”
“I won’t, scouts honor. Sooo, which one of us is going to ask her out?” Kaminari already has a few ideas of how to ask her but he doubts Kirishima will trust him with speaking to her without scenting her for the next few times he encounters her.
“I think we both know I’ll be the one to ask her. We need to get her familiar with us before you start sending shocks up her legs,” they both smirk at the pun.
And, so, an unlikely (in your opinion) friendship began to form between you, Kaminari, and Kirishima. Both alphas pursued you no matter how much you insisted their efforts would be appreciated somewhere else. Albeit, you did enjoy the attention they gave you.
“Y/N, come here so we can cuddle,” you barely have any time to yourself as they both grab you and tuck you under their arm (truthfully, you don’t mind the attention). Either you sit on their lap willingly or they’ll grab you and put you there on their own accord.
It doesn’t take much time for them to ask for your friendship to be morphed into something more. Despite your outward disparity, you’re elated when they ask you to be with them. Maybe it’s because you’re selfish and wouldn’t be able to bare them treating someone else the way they’ve treated you.
‘Pro-Heroes ‘Chargebolt’ and ‘Red Riot’ Take New Beta Hero ‘Y/N’ As A Mate.’ The press had a field day when you first confirmed the rumors circulating about what was going on amongst the three of you. Some approved the relationship while most asked the obvious question: Why were eligible alphas such as Chargebolt and Red Riot wasting their time on a Beta?
It just didn’t make much sense. They had the cream of the crop, omegas throwing themselves at the heroes left and right, matchmakers contacting them to find them an omega for free. Hell, some even tried to discredit them as alphas, saying they had to settle for a Beta. That type of response made you weary (well, you’d always been weary no matter how much they tried to dispel your fears).
They made sure to take you out every other day, sometimes they’d do individual dates but most of the time it was the three of you. Their embraces always made you comfortable, almost like you belonged with them. However, you still couldn’t ignore that inkling in your mind that made you doubt the likelihood of your relationship.
Your doubts often consumed your thoughts, which pissed Kaminari and Kirishima off to no end.
Kaminari was much more direct with his approach to your insecurities. He’d talk your ear off, send a few shocks to your core, and give you a faux innocent smile. “You’re so perfect for us, Y/N. There’s no need to be scared that you’re not enough.”
Surprisingly, Kirishima is something else entirely in his wake to assure you. He’s dominant and domineering (which often ends up with you on your belly with your ass up as he spanks his words into your mind). It’s like night and day between the two of them. “Y/N, how many times do I have to tell you you’re meant for us? Or, maybe you like being spanked like this?”
Eventually, you move in with them. It seemed natural at the time to be with them in that aspect so you could be with them every moment of the day. However, you still have your reservations.
One day, you’re sitting on the couch in the living room watching some rom com when an advertisement pops on the screen. You knew you should’ve turned the channel but, you couldn’t help yourself as you felt enticed by what they were selling.
Created specifically for Betas, a perfume that will make your scent more enticing to alphas. The perfect way to capture the attention of that special alpha you’ve been wanting. Guaranteed happiness for both you and your partner. How could you not put in an order for the scent?
You didn’t really think it out, didn’t consider that Kaminari and Kirishima adore the way you smell. You just wanted to make them happy and you thought this was the easiest way.
It took two long months for the perfume to be shipped out and one more month for it to be mailed to the correct address (apparently, a lot of other Betas had the same idea as yourself). The stuff was expensive, coming in at thirty-one thousand yen a bottle.
‘This shit better work. I could’ve bought so much food with that money,’ you stare at the bottle as you contemplate whether or not you should really do it. ‘If this doesn’t work, they’ll be really pissed off.’
“Kirishima will be home early, SparkPlug. I have to stay behind for a mission. You sure you’ll be okay alone?” Kaminari had your face between his hands and your foreheads rested against one another’s.
“Yes, Sparky. I’ll be fine. Go do your job,” you were going to enjoy this day off. You had worked double shifts the past month for this moment.
He smirked, slowly brought your lips to his, and shocked you with his tongue, making your eyes dilate. “Be a good girl for us while we’re gone.”
He left and you were not a good girl. You spent the whole day dousing yourself in the perfume (i.e. you literally dumped half the bottle into some bath water so it could fuse with your skin). You even bought a new babydoll negligee for when they came home. So, when Kirishima walked through the front door, you were walking around in your silk robe.
“Kiri, babe I missed you,” you were waiting for him on the side of the door, legs exposed and your creamy skin distracting him for a few moments.
“I-Uh missed you too, RockCandy,” he lifts you into his large arms, nuzzling your neck. He’s always called you RockCandy since he picked up the habit from Fatgum. “W-what is that smell?” Kirishima’s nose twitched at the obnoxious sweet scent that seemed to ooze out of your pores.
“It’s a new perfume. How does it smell?” You were optimistic that he’d like it. That would mean that Kaminari would enjoy it too. And, that would mean that you could finally please them.
“Sweetheart, honey, baby, love-“
“Just spit it out.”
“I hate it,” Kirishima rubs your back to comfort you.
“Oh,” you rest your head on his shoulder, wanting to cry. “Well, I’ll go take a shower.”
You walk off before he can stop you, storming to the bathroom where the first thing you did was throw that stupid fucking bottle of lousy perfume in the small trash can near your bed.
You’re pretty sure you heard the negligee rip a bit with how hard you pulled it off of your body and hopped into the shower.
You’re crying out of frustration. Why did you think that was going to work? Were you really that desperate with changing yourself that you really did that? Who in their right mind does-
“Beta, what is this?”
Huh?
“What the fuck is this?” You peep your head from behind the curtain to see Kirishima holding the scent change bottle.
“Uh it-it’s...y-you know! It’s on the damn bottle Kiri!” He grabs your face in his hand, squishing your cheeks together.
“What did you just say to me?” Kirishima’s face was close, his breath ghosting over your lips. “Are you challenging me, baby?”
“Nooooo, no. Definitely not trying to challenge you at all. I’m just frustrated,” you pout.
“That pout isn’t gonna help you. You think it’s okay to cuss at me just because you're frustrated?” You shake your head. “You think it’s okay to change yourself?”
You’re stuck between a rock and a hard place. On one hand, you can deny it but he’s seen the proof. On the other hand, you can come clean however, you doubt that you’ll get away with this unscathed. What to do?
“I just wanted to be better for the both of you. I know that I don’t smell the best and I know that you both could’ve done better,” you sniffle.
“Y/N, get your ass in that shower and wash that shit off. I wanna smell what’s mine. Better hurry. Kaminari is on his way home,” you jump to action. You’re scrubbing your body with a loofa (it’s most likely one of your alphas). Apparently, he’s not gonna give you any sympathy.
Kirishima sits on the toilet beside the shower, watching you like a hawk. Whenever you scrub between your legs, he licks his lips and his sharp teeth are exposed. He notices you staring at them and runs his teeth along the top.
You want to draw the shower out but, you know Kirishima will pull you out once he knows that you are milking it. Plus, you want to get out before Kaminari gets home.
You step out into the cold air and you’re wrapped in a towel by Kiri. His arms keep you caged against his broad chest, making you melt at the contact. The towel is the only thing separating him from seeing your naked body.
“Kiri, I’ve got to get dressed.”
“No, you get on the bed and take that towel off. I want you on your back with your legs spread, pussy open for me to eat. I’m sure Kaminari would love that too,” he pushes you forward, spanking your ass before you're completely away from his touch.
So, yeah that’s how you ended up in that position, waiting for Kaminari to get home while Kirishima was leaving bite marks on your inner thighs. You grip the sheets while your face contorts with pleasure, his mouth dangerously close to the place you need him most but still denying you the pleasure you want.
“Ohhh, Sparkplug, you couldn’t wait for me to get home?” You didn’t even hear the front door open as Kaminari came home. He sniffed as he crossed the threshold, something disgusting in the air, but he quickly tossed that aside when he heard your moans.
Just imagine how good it felt for him to see you on your shared bed, pussy glistening with juices that he knows will soon be his meal, nipples pointing to the sky, face so beautiful and pleasured.
“Kami, guess what our little girl did this time?” You tense a bit.
“Must have been something good for this type of treatment,” Kaminari shed his clothes as he stepped further into the room, clothes beneath him as he settled next to Kirishima, spreading your legs even further to accommodate both of them.
“Quite the opposite. This one decided to change her scent. Fucking nasty. Smelled nothing like her. She tried to change what we like,” and suddenly you're looking into the eyes of two alphas that are ready to punish their mate.
“Did she?”
“I’m sure you smelled it.”
“I did but, I assumed I was just smelling something wrong,” Kaminari drags his pinky against your clit, a small shock making you cry out.
“Daddy, pleaseee,” drool is pooling a bit on the side of your mouth.
“You’re not in any position to ask anything. Now, shush, the alphas are speaking,” you’re flooding the sheets with arousal, wetness slipping down the crack of your ass. “What do you think we should do to her?”
“I say we eat first then fuck her so hard she can’t question anything,” Kirishima has a dark small on his face. “She needs some good ole’ DP therapy.”
“I was just thinking the same thing,” they both flatten their tongue and lick on your outer lips at the same time, holding one of your legs on each of their shoulders for some stability. Kaminari’s tongue stiffens to push into your weeping hole while Kirishima nibbles softly on your clit. Their saliva makes you wetter than you already were.
Both groan at the taste of you when they first make contact. Your sweet tang is something neither of them will ever tire of. Both of them hold your legs open as they feast, your juices rushing down their chins as you can feel some of your essence squirt when the pleasure keeps building up. It was hard enough trying not to cum since you didn’t have permission but it seemed like they didn’t care as they didn’t even slow down. They licked up your juice, Kaminari sucking on your clit while Kirishima speared his tongue into your hole, hardening his tongue when he got far enough to touch that special spot within you.
Your legs are shaking, your vision dotted black as they draw away from you, making you think that maybe they will have mercy on you. Not even close. Kaminari laid down on the bed, your juices against his back as Kirishima settled your core over his mouth, essentially putting you in a position to ride Kaminari’s face. His tongue continued its work as Kirishma pushed you over a bit, exposing your backhole to him. He licked his lips with anticipation, thinking about the last time you allowed him to do this.
‘It’s been too long,’ Kirishima thinks to himself as he starts to slowly prod at your asshole with his tongue, his hands spreading your ass so he can push his tongue in further. At the same time, Kaminari sent a spark on your clit, the feeling making you clench your toes as you rocked back onto Kirishima’s tongue.
“Pleaseeee, don’t wanna wait any longer. Please, fuck me,” Kirishima laughed at your begging. “Kiri, pleasee.”
“What’s my name?” Kirishima leaned over to the nightstand beside the bed to pull out some lube, squirting some onto his cock and onto your hole. He knew he would have to prep you, so he slipped one finger into your hole, meeting little resistance. Another two were pushed in and you squealed as you felt his fingers stretch you further. “You’re crying already, baby? I haven’t even got myself in you yet.”
“Daddy, please,” your throat was feeling raw from all the crying you were doing.
“Want your daddies to fuck your slutty holes?” you nodded fervently. “I need vocal confirmation.”
“Fuck your slutty holes! Aghh fuck yes please,” that was enough confimation for Kaminari to slide you down his body, stuffing you full of his cock with no warning, You groaned as you felt Kirishima withdraw his fingers and replace them with his girthy cock, pushing into you inch by inch. You were now panting like a bitch in heat as Kaminari pumped into you, his cock bumping into Kirishima’s within you.
“Fuck, I can feel you bro,” Kaminari didn’t slow down as he kissed your neck and fucked into you. He groaned as Kirishima started to move, pushing in whenever he pulled out. They were working in synchrony.
“Bro, look at our baby. No omega could ever take our knots like this. Isn’t that right?” Kaminari held your throat in his hands, cock pumping your pussy from beneath you.
“So fucking tight baby. Doing a good job for your alphas,” you lean down to kiss him, whining into his mouth as Kirishima spreads your ass to spear his cock into your ass at a deeper angle. Every stroke hits your walls from both holes, making your legs shake at the intensity.
You scream as you feel another orgasm attacking you, its ferocity ripping you apart as you could do nothing but lay there and cry on your alphas cocks. All the sensations were becoming too much as you tried to squirm away, making both alphas grip onto you.
“Don’t fucking run,” Kaminari growled into your ear.
“Where do you think you’re going? You’re gonna lay here and take what we fucking give you,” Kirishima breathed into your ear as he leaned over your body, his sweaty chest on your sweaty back. True to his word, they continued to fuck you through your orgasms, calling you their perfect little slut.
“Fuck, I’m not gonna last,” Kaminari was the first to cum in your pussy, making a delicious creamipe from Kirishima’s view. He reached down to your clit, stroking it hard as he groaned.
“One last time baby. I know you can uhahhh fuck fuck yes there ya go baby. All over daddy's cock,” you came over both of them, Kirishima erupting in your ass as he laid down on your back, squishing you between them as their cocks kept their cum in you.
“Don’t ever think you aren’t enough for us. You’ll always be more than enough.”

TBOBF ep 6 thoughts under the cut whooooosh
I feel like a LOT was squeezed into this episode. They just barely managed to make it all fit without feeling too overly squashed but it was close. We’re really more solidly into “this is The Mandalorian S 2.5” territory now, which we were told about before this show ever aired anyway so I’m not surprised.
(Though I’m not as upset about Boba’s spotlight being moved the last two eps as others are, I do agree it’s Not Great to have given the impression this far that this would be HIS SHOW ENTIRELY and then sideline him for Mando characters. At least we saw him for 5 seconds this ep though…)
Called seeing Cobb again! I’m two for two! It would be really shitty to finally fish that wish and then have him murdered. By Cad fuckin BANE. Whomst I know a lot of you bigger Star Wars fans probably loved seeing but I could have done without. We’re starting to get a little cameo heavy again which was one of Mando S2’s big issues imo.
Part of what made Mando so good (and what was also really good about TBOBF there at the start) was that it told an amazing story without relying on the credit an old familiar face would give it. Mando succeeded with brand new character Din Djarin at the helm because it was a well written and produced show and didn’t NEED name drops to keep it afloat. I’m worried tossing Cobb, Luke, Ahsoka, Grogu, Din, and now Bane into TBOBF is an overreaction to the negative feelings people were (rightfully) having over what happened to the Tuskans.
It’s either a distraction, a desperate grab for views, a misguided attempt at forgiveness, idk. But you don’t toss that many classic cameos into one random episode unless you’re feeling insecure about it’s standing. And it certainly doesn’t make up for the horrible writing decisions earlier in the series.
I did enjoy seeing Cobb and Grogu again and I do love Din being involved. But even with my overall positive view of last week and somewhat of this week’s ep, I do find it in bad taste that Din has been acting as the main character again in a show that isn’t his. As much as I love him, I think it would have been better to have him filling a supporting role, backing up Boba, (probably as he was meant to in this show, originally) than monopolize the screen time himself.
That’s probably more greed on D*sney’s part than anything else. They know Mando did well so let’s toss Din and Grogu into TBOBF so we can sell all that baby yoda merch again woooooo!!!
Anyway:
If Cobb Vanth is dead we riot
Luke (and Ahsoka) continues to be a dick for preaching emotional distance and then constantly trying to emotionally manipulate Grogu into choosing to become a Jedi instead of following the equally available and valid path of becoming a Mandalorian.
Did we need Cad Bane? Nah probably not.
A lot of this feels like it could have waited for Mando S3 which makes me think they want to tie up this plot by the end of this show so other things can be explored in Mando S3.
So why bother bringing in all these familiar faces and making it about them? Just seems weird. Especially when they take screen time from the person who’s show it actually is meant to be.
Looking at it now, I really wonder if something happened in the middle of filming or writing or at some point in the creative process because where we are now feels incredibly distant in almost every single way from where we were eps 1-3. Slapping Din and a bunch of his supporting cast in wouldn’t have been tough, seeing as how they wouldn’t even have needed Pedro Pascal to physically be there. What the hell happened? Possibly something to do with covid?
I still liked this ep. As long as I’m entertained, I consider things successful. Remember that this show was always meant to bridge the gap between the two Mando seasons, so it’s not out of the realm of possibility that this is just how the show will be from now on. And we only have 2 more episodes to go. It’s gotten me very excited to get back into The Mandalorian, which realistically was TBOBF’s purpose all along. I still would have liked to have gotten more Boba content out of it before this point, though.
Cobb better not be dead 👀🔪

On the Hunt
Author: @hutchhitched
Prompt 39: Katniss has been bumping into the same stranger (Peeta) for months. When they get stuck in an unfortunate situation together, she decides to be the first to say hello. [submitted by @eiramrelyat / @taylerwrites]
Ratings/Warnings: T
The first time Katniss sees him, he takes her breath away. It’s from afar. He probably doesn’t even catch a glimpse of her, but her whole world tilts off its axis.
She’s not sure why he stands out to her. There’s nothing particularly unique about him. He’s not short or tall or big or small. He’s not drop-dead gorgeous or ugly like a troll. He doesn’t move like an athlete or sparkle with the magic of a performer. He appears normal in every sense of the word, but that doesn’t mean she can’t see how special he really is. At least she thinks he might be—if she had a chance to actually speak to him.
That doesn’t happen, though. She’s too far away when she sees him picking up a loaf of bread, and she can’t seem to move once he’s left her line of sight. She stays frozen in the freezer section (the irony!) for several minutes. Hopefully, everyone else thinks she’s considering her options in breakfast burritos, but she’s actually involved in an out of body experience that follows the young man from the back of the store to the registers, out the door, and into the parking lot where he must load his groceries into his car and drive away. His life is no different, but hers will never be the same.
It has to be because she’s lonely. It’s been a very long time since she’s been in a relationship. In fact, it’s been so long since she’s kissed a man, she kind of wonders if she’s forgotten how to do it. Katniss has never been that popular, but she’s enjoyed her fair share of attention. She tries really hard not to spiral out in the freezer section, but Christ on a cracker! Something about that specimen of manhood has made her question her life’s choices. Why hasn’t she run into him before now? Clearly, she’s been living wrong.
Except, she hasn’t. She’s done absolutely everything she knows to do to be a good person. She supports her little sister and sends money to her mother who needs every speck of help she can get. She has a best friend who’s been by her side since they both lost their fathers when they were barely teenagers. She helps out at a shelter and donates money to the food bank because she knows way too well how hunger can impact a person’s life. In other words, there’s no reason her weekly grocery trip should result in an upheaval to her world. It’s simply not fair, and she plans to file a complaint to who it is that runs fate and destiny. She has a bone to pick.
Somehow, she finds everything on her list and heads to the front of the store. When she gets there, she unloads her groceries and watches as the cashier scans each item. Digging into her wallet, she’s stunned to find she only has a twenty and the total keeps rising. Mortified, she watches as the number climbs to $34.15.
“I don’t have… I mean, can you take off the…”
Trying to figure out what she can live without until her next paycheck, she surveys the food and toiletries. Almost in tears, she stammers for a few seconds before the cashier speaks.
“Don’t worry. Another patron paid it forward. He left a twenty and asked that I use it if anyone needed help. Looks like you could use some.”
“I— I couldn’t. It’s not right.”
“The guy seemed pretty adamant that I only offer it to someone who could use a break. It seems like that could be you today.”
Katniss nodded slowly. “Do you have any idea who it is? I’d like to thank them.”
The cashier shook her head. “Young guy. Stocky, medium height, ashy blonde hair, blue eyes. Very polite. Named Peter, I think. Something like that.”
It’s got to be him. The description’s too similar to be a coincidence. It seems the guy that froze her in place with his looks is as kind and compassionate as he is special. Now, he’s even more intimidating.
She nods her thanks and takes the change and her purchases. The five in her pocket gives her a little joy, but the feeling of not having money still bothers her. Maybe it’s time to get a credit card. She’s been warned off them for so long that she never applied for one, but now, it might be something she should do. Maybe. It makes her nervous to think she could get in financial trouble with it. She’s been poor her entire life. It might be too tempting to resist.
When she makes it back to her apartment, her attempt to unpack her groceries is interrupted frequently by long pauses in which she fantasizes about finding the guy who’s rocked her world and given her daydreams about all the ways she needs to thank him (appropriately and not so much) for the rest of her life. It’s not unrealistic at all. Totally doable, she decides. After all, how hard can it be to find him again? They live in the same town.
****
The answer to that question is that it’s very hard. Difficult isn’t even the word to describe the problem she has in trying to find the Boy With the Bread, which is what she calls him even though he’s definitely an adult. The person she saw from afar was all man if the stretch of his shirt across broad shoulders was any indication. Still, the alliteration makes her smile, so she continues to refer to him as such.
It shouldn’t take so long, but it does. Months pass, and she wonders if she’s made it all up and imagined the creature that changed her life. She keeps her eyes open in public, scans the local news and social media sites, and seriously considers setting up an online dating site just to see if he’s looking for someone. She’s getting desperate, but then fate smiles on her again.
She’s sitting in a coffee shop, something she hardly ever does, when he walks in the door. She doesn’t normally have time for such a mundane, normal activity that other people her age seem to enjoy all the time. She’s usually working during the day, and she has no desire to consume copious amounts of caffeine after 5 pm when she gets off work. Today, though, she has time. She’s taken a half day to run errands and go to the dentist, and she needs the jolt the espresso will give her to survive her reduced shift.
He ducks through the doorway just as she’s taken a sip of her hot beverage, and she almost chokes on the liquid. He shakes the umbrella he’s holding just outside the door and shoves a riot of blonde curls off his forehead that have shrunken up and frizzed from the rain. It’s adorable.
He’s wearing an emerald Henley and faded jeans that hug all the right places. The sight of him freezes her in place, but that doesn’t stop her from tracking him as moves past her. She’s close enough to see his eyes are blue before he marches across the café and approaches a man sitting alone in the corner. They clasp hands and grin at each other, and the vision in green heads to the counter to order.
She’s dumbfounded. Here he is again after so long, and she can’t think of a single thing to say to him or how in the world to actually approach him without making her look absolutely insane. She racks her brain trying to think of an intelligent topic, but she’s jolted from that when the barista walks to the end of the bar and calls a name.
“Peeta! Chai Latte.”
That’s his name, she realizes, and it’s like the sun’s broken through thick, heavy clouds. It’s just unusual enough to fit him and still feel familiar. He smiles at the woman behind the bar and takes the cup from her. He ordered chai, and she files that information away for future reference. He might not like coffee, which seems important.
She’s pondering a trip to the bathroom just so she has an excuse to pass by him when she suddenly understands that he’s leaving. He and his friend are talking as they walk to the door, and she catches the sound of his voice.
“—we can change that, the numbers will—”
His words are swallowed by the rush of traffic outside, but that silky tone she hardly had a chance to listen to has already taken up residence in the part of her brain that creates unrealistic fantasies. She daydreams for longer than she should. In fact, it’s only the vibration of her phone against the table that reminds her she has to get to her job. What a chance encounter, but now she has a name to go with that face.
****
She’s tried to find him again. She’s googled and returned to the coffee shop when she’s had a spare minute or two. She’s asked around and continues to check dating sites. Nothing. She’s found absolutely nothing. Without a last name, she has very little idea how to find out anything else. Frustrated, she goes about her daily life with a weight on her shoulders that shouldn’t be there. He’s a stranger she’s glimpsed only a couple of times.
Frustrated and full of pent-up energy, she joins a gym. There’s nothing quite like working up a good sweat to ease tension and kickstart her brain, so she spends her free time running the track, lifting, and participating in every hot yoga class the establishment offers. After a month, she’s leaner and stronger than ever, but she hasn’t managed to come up with any ideas that might help her find the guy she desperately wants to thank for saving her when she wasn’t sure how she’d eat for a week.
She’s two laps into her normal ten when she glances down from the elevated track and spots a pickup game of three on three basketball on the far court. Three blonde men face off against three with dark hair, one of whom looks remarkably like her best friend Gale Hawthorne, who she hasn’t seen since he left town for a job almost a year ago. As she jogs closer to the court, she realizes it is him teamed up with his brothers. The blonde men look like siblings, too, but she doesn’t spare them much of a glance. She’s got more laps to go, and she doesn’t want to draw any attention to herself. Gale didn’t bother to tell her that he’s in town, and she’s a little miffed by that.
It’s another three passes by the court before it hits her that the blonde men look familiar. She puts on a burst of speed to get back to where she can see the men closeup and almost trips over her own feet when she spies him. It’s the guy. THE guy. The cashier had said Peter, and the barista had called him Peeta. She stops in her tracks and grabs the railing when someone bumps into her from behind.
“Watch it!” he yells as the jogger passes her. “You’re not supposed to stop on the track!”
She dismisses him with a wave and sprints to the nearest stairwell. If she can just catch them… She bounds down the stairs, three at a time, and bursts into a bustling walkway. She dodges and shoves her way free and streaks around the corner to find—
“Catnip! What are you doing here?”
“Gale!” Sweat drips down her forehead and stings her eyes. Cringing, she swipes her hand across her face and tries not to cry. “Where are—? I thought you were playing basketball.”
He throws her a bewildered look and nods like she’s lost it a little. “We were.”
“You’re done?”
“Yeah? We’d been at it for a while. Are you… Have you been watching me?”
Katniss rolls her eyes, although that’s not really very fair. She had noticed him. It’s not like that’s not the case. “Who were you playing with? I saw Vic and Rory, but the blonde guys… Who, er, who were they?”
The expression on his face would be priceless if she weren’t so desperate to find out the information. He looks like he’s swallowed something very, very distasteful, and she tries hard not to snort with laughter.
“Why?”
She takes in his narrowed eyes and realizes she’s going to have to lie to get what she wants. Part of the reason they haven’t been as close since he left town is due to his sudden confessions of feelings toward her. She’d let him down easy, but things have been strained since then. There’s no need to rub that in his face when all she wants is to find out about Peeta. With a straight face and innocent eyes, she explains, “I think one of them door dinged my car a couple of weeks ago. The gym won’t give out membership information, but if you know who they are… Well, I’d be really grateful, Gale.”
He falls for it when she bats her eyelashes at him. She should feel terrible, but all’s fair in love and basketball. Of all people, Gale should want her to be happy, no matter if that means she’s interested in someone else or not. She’s no damsel in distress, unless she can’t pay for her groceries or something. However, her simpering works, and that’s really what she needs.
“Mellark is the last name. They all have bread names. It’s weird.”
She rolls the name around in her head for a bit. Peeta Mellark. It’s a nice solid name, and now she has more information to help her figure out how to find him. Almost giddy with victory, she stretches up on her tiptoes and kisses Gale’s cheek in gratitude. Backing away before he can reciprocate, she hears him as the distance widens between them.
“Do you want to grab dinner sometime? Maybe?”
“Sorry, Gale! Got to go. Really good to see you!”
With that, she turns her back and slips down the hall to the women’s locker room. She doesn’t bother to shower before grabbing her bag and heading to her car. She’s barely closed the door before she’s on her phone and typing in the name Peeta Mellark. She has a thank you to deliver.
****
Surprisingly, it’s not much easier to find him now that she knows his full name. She unveils a lot of information about his family, but not him. Apparently, they own a few local bakeries that she tries out and loves. Still, Peeta’s family is not the same thing as Peeta, who is remarkably absent from social media and with no online presence. She’s willing to admit, she got cocky, and now she can’t figure out how to recover from it.
“Where the hell is he?” she mutters as she comes up empty. Again.
Frustrated, she runs over all the data she’s gathered about him. He’s kind, compassionate, and thoughtful; all of those qualities were on display at the grocery store. He drinks tea and has a very good-looking friend who he talks to about numbers; that she learned at the coffee shop. He’s athletic and has two brothers he likes well enough to exercise with them; that information, and his last name, came from the gym. It should be enough to go on. It’s not.
She’s at home on her couch and paying bills when it suddenly hits her that she may never see this guy again. Peeta Mellark seems to be a figment of her imagination for all the good it’s done to try to find him. That and the small number in her bank account are both so unpleasant that she decides she’s going to have to break down and do something she’s been avoiding and delaying for a very long time. She’s going to have to open a line of credit. She’ll only use it for emergencies, but she can’t rely on the kindness of strangers to bail her out the next time she doesn’t have money for groceries, let alone car maintenance or an unforeseen medical crisis. It’s been months since Peeta saved her, but the humiliation of not being able to take care of herself still hasn’t faded. Before she can change her mind, she grabs her purse and heads to the bank. The time is now.
“Can I help you?” A bubbly blonde teller named Delly asks, and Katniss takes a deep breath to fortify herself.
“I’d like to open a line of credit. Can I talk to someone about that?”
“Sure!” she practically squeals. “Let me just call someone to help you.”
She’s led down the hallway and past a few desks to a small office. Once ushered inside, she sits and raises her eyes to view the person across from her.
“Oh…”
The man before her is stunning—green eyes, bronze hair, a swimmer’s build. It’s the guy’s—Peeta’s—friend, the one he was with at the coffee shop.
“Ms. Everdeen. I’m Finnick Odair. Want some sugar?” he asks and nudges a candy bowl toward her.
“No, I’m fi—.”
“Hey, Finn. Can you— Oh, I’m so sorry. I didn’t know you were with a customer.”
She jerks at the sound of his voice. Peeta Mellark is standing in the doorway, and her heart is in her throat. She has a sudden flashback of the coffee shop, when the two of them walked past her discussing numbers… Now, it all makes sense. They work at a bank together. Of course they do. Peeta turns to leave, and she calls out.
“Wait! Stay with me.”
She claps her hands over her mouth and wills herself not to blush, but it’s no use. She’s just asked a perfect stranger to stay with her, and her invitation sounds much more intimate than she means it to. He must think she’s insane. Maybe she actually is. She pushes down a sudden urge to flee the situation and escape to the safety of her apartment.
This is out of her wheelhouse. Shy, introverted, and intensely private, Katniss worries the end of her braid and bites her lip. Every instinct she has tells her to run, but the temptation of him before her is too great. Rising, she crosses to him and holds out her hand.
“Hi. My name is Katniss. You saved my life once, and I’ve been on the hunt to find you for months. Thank you.”
Peeta and his friend exchange looks, and she fights the urge to shrivel back into herself. Finally, he looks directly at her and takes her palm in his. With a smile so disarming she nearly faints, he answers.
“Peeta Mellark. It’s nice to meet you.”
The touch of his hand on hers melts her insides. She dreads when she finally has to let go, but maybe she won’t have to. With a shy smile, she cocks out her hip and looks up at him through long lashes. Her flirting may be a disaster, but it’s all she’s got.
“It’s so nice to meet you, too.”
The flicker in his eyes makes her knees weak. An hour later, she’s left the bank with a line of credit, a phone number, and a dinner date. The hunt is finally over.

To take the Nile Marine Discourse veering off in another direction,
Why did Greg Rucka make her a Marine? Because his characters' only superpower is that they can heal and revive from any wound or injury or illness or whatever. They don't have superhuman strength or speed, they're regular people whose only superpower is healing, and they happen to be nearly-superhumanly-skilled warriors because they've been warriors for centuries and millennia.
This dude made Nile a Marine because she'd have to be a trained warrior to hang with such experienced doers of violence, right?
This dude got from point A, my creations' only superpower is healing, to point K, therefore they're exceptional warriors, because Greg Rucka assumes that before a certain time in The Past, pretty much all people were violent. I too was raised on Lord of the Rings and Arthurian legend and all that shit where those who don't live by the sword can still die from it. But, like, was the past really all like that, or is that just Western myth to make modern white people feel civilized by comparison?
Was Yusuf actually a skilled swordsman from go, or was he just a poet-accountant starting to take over the family merchanting business when a terribly timed business trip to Jerusalem forced him into pretty extreme fight or flight mode? Maybe Nicolo killed Yusuf many times before Yusuf figured his way around a sword enough to kill him back, because Nicolo got trained in invadering and Yusuf was doing the 10th century version of me sitting on my couch writing essays on the internet.
I have a lot of empathy for Nile the character who chose to become a Marine because that's how the US economy works and because if she lets herself really think about the lie of American exceptionalism that means her dad died for a lie and that will break her and she could probably put herself back together eventually but OUCH NO THAT WOULD HURT THINK ABOUT SOMETHING ELSE GOTTA GO ENLIST NOW.
And I have a lot of empathy for Gina Prince-Bythewood who is so talented and has a platform but is still a Black woman in Hollywood and you can only rock so many boats at once before they throw you overboard so she went with Rucka's Marines as neutral framing and rocked other boats instead. Or maybe that's me giving her too much credit. I fucking love her work, but does she have a decolonial analysis? Does it enrage her what our country's military does to people in other countries and especially the people who live in Afghanistan? Maybe. But maybe not.
My appreciation for Greg Rucka as creator of characters who now live rent-free in my brain is non-zero, but my skepticism of his politics is very high.
Let's go back to that point A to point K math. The starting concept: regular human people with one superpower, healing. What are all the possible ways a person, a group of people could spend centuries of their time devoted to? What would make an interesting story for these characters' creator to tell? What would make the world a better place for these characters and the world of their narrative?
Shot in the dark here, what if, instead of regular human people with superhuman healing become superhumanly experienced warriors, what if they spend their centuries and millennia becoming superhumanly experienced historians, storytellers, sages.
Like, can you IMAGINE having a group of people who have spent hundreds and thousands of years listening to people talk about their experiences, learning how to get people to trust them with their stories, learning how to share their own stories and other people's stories with skill and care? By the time Nile, the art history grad student whose father died in Afghanistan but then the US government finally passed reparations for slavery so she got to go to college instead of joining the Marines, becomes an immortal these people are internationally respected and beloved holders of human history. Nobody's going to capture them and lock them in cages because people would RIOT and every restorative justice collective on the planet would be Holding Those Captors Accountable. (If Nile lives in a world where reparations and restorative justice are public policy in her country and many others, where the Old Guardians didn’t let colonizers get away with writing all the history books, would she have grown up in a world where the Afghanistan war even happened? Would the United States even exist? Would countries exist? Would slavery have been abolished globally and for all time even before that piece of shit Columbus was born? I’m gonna stop myself before I write another meta post within this already-way-long meta post but holy shit y’all this could change EVERYTHING)
The real world isn't always as violent as fiction makes it out to be, and fictional worlds could be way, way, like staggeringly way less violent than the real world if their creators chose for them to be.
Anyway Andy the paleo-zoologist (she was alone for at least a thousand years she befriends a lot of animals ok), Quynh the spinner of tales (romance! mysteries! comedies! the occasional tragedy but not too many because why be sad if you don't have to be! and also spinner of the most stunning cloth any human being has ever seen in their entire life holy fashion historian batman), Joe the poet with such kind eyes no one can resist telling him their secrets, Nicky the quiet and watchful man who notices what others don't even notice about their own lives, Booker the publications technology nerd (inks! printing presses! handwriting! forgery is a science y'all!), and now Nile the 21st century art history nerd who holy shit has somehow won the lottery because she gets to join this group of people who hold a vast trove of knowledge from so many times and places across human history in their forever-regenerating bones.

about the credits and outside producers, the way song credits work is that the name(s) listed first are the people who contributed most/are the main composers, so it's like a ranking. and in all songs it's woozi first, then bumzu, then sometimes another member, and only then the outside producers. it does give me hope that woozi (and bumzu) really took the lead with the songs and the other people maybe worked on details or gave input to "enhance" it. there's also no real way to tell with the names listed later how much exactly they contributed - they could have added a synth in the chorus or something and it was enough to get them credited. this is me trying to be optimistic haha 😅 i'm so torn on this issue to be honest, on one hand i don't want these strangers to mess with the process and take too much credit, on the other hand it's good to introduce some variety to their style and sound and it's also an opportunity for woozi to learn from these professionals and grow. but yeah all in all i agree with the anon and you, there's too many random names on the track list this time :/ i guess let's reserve our judgement until the album is out and until then let's trust the boys and be open minded, it's not like we can do anything about it anyways </3
Omg I got so worried seeing so many different producers on the tracks and then I felt ridiculous for it, so seeing other ppl having the same reactions makes me feel better. I just hope the tracks still have sincerity in them, like you said. BUT because Woozi, Bumzi and Prismfilter are in most of the songs I have faith that they wouldn’t release something they felt wasn’t on-par with the group’s image, you know? And rock w u had a lot of different producers and arrangers involved but it still ended up really well (it’s actually one of my fave title tracks).
(these are two different anons, i'm just answering them together to save myself some time)
yeah, i am aware that's how the credits work, but it is a good point to bring up for anyone who might be super concerned about this. if there's ever a song where the svt members or bumzu aren't credited as the main producer i'm sure carats will really riot, esp if it's a title track lol. but i am comforted that that hasn't happened yet, and i'm hoping hybe has enough common sense to not let that happen. although i feel like they've increased the amount of outside producers with each comeback, so a part of me is worried that it's just going to continue to escalate
i often get frustrated that we can't know how much a person has contributed to the song other than the general order tbh. like you said, they could just contribute a small part. which on one hand is a comforting thought that woozi and bumzu are still largely in control, but on the other hand, if they're only contributing a small piece, it feels even more unnecessary to have all these people
i agree that having variety and letting woozi collaborate with other producers isn't necessarily a bad thing. i just wish it were like... two or three new outside producers on an album as opposed to like... 15 you know? that would just feel more reassuring (to me at least) that hybe isn't trying to take over svt's music or change their sound. which may not be what they're doing, but that's just how i (and i think a lot of other carats) feel when we see that many unfamiliar names on the tracklist
i agree with both of you though that we should keep an open mind and just try to enjoy the music regardless. there's nothing we can do about the production now, and it still looks like woozi and bumzu took the lead. just because there are other producers on the tracks doesn't mean the songs are going to be bad
i think it's also important to keep in mind that if you don't like any of the songs, not to blame it to heavily on the other producers or act like it's the worst song in existence. i saw this a lot with rtl and to a lesser extent with rwy and i don't think it helps anyone. it just makes people who do like the song feel bad about it. and it's also important to keep in mind that the boys, especially woozi, still worked hard on the songs. it's perfectly okay to not like a song, and it's okay to share that opinion, regardless of who produced it. but don't try to find a deeper reason for why the song is "bad". it's okay to just not like it, doesn't mean it's a bad song or that others can't like it. and as the first anon said, we can't know for sure what each producer contributed anyway

part [1] 2 3
—————————————————————————
I worked at a sushi bar in Japan. It was an exhausting shift. I bowed to my superior as my shift ended. I put on my jacket and walked my way home. Drunk people roamed the streets, so I decided to take a short cut through an alleyway to get home. I walked for a few minutes then a man in a red suit was thrown against the wall in front of me. “Oh my—are you okay,” I called out, coughing through the debris. He was grabbing his own shoulders it looked like. His face started to turn purple as he got further pushed in. His internal clock was nearing zero fast. He was dying and I didn’t know why.
I felt around him, and it was a figure who was invisible. I punched as hard as I could to the figure and deactivated his invisibility. The man fell to the ground, unconscious. “Well well. Who are you,” the figure said. I learned jujitsu in high school for self-defense. I charged at him, breaking his ribs, before he got the chance to turn invisible. He fell to the ground and struggled to breathe. “Defending a pro-hero? Fine, you win this round. But I’ll be back. Stronger,” he said as he disappeared.
I turn back to the man. He was wearing a red, tool-like suit, red hair. I performed chest compressions so he could breathe again. After a minute, he caught his breath, grabbing my wrists. “You’re okay,” I comforted. His internal clock restored as I watched his time go up, dramatically. He coughed as he sat up. “I thought I had him. I’m so stupid to be that vulnerable,” he said beating himself up. He punched a hole in the brick wall and looked back over to me. “I’m sorry you had to see that,” he said as he walked away.
“Wait,” I said. He almost didn’t want to turn back, but he stopped in his tracks and looked back at me. “You will get him next time. I’ll be rooting for you,” I said. He smirked as he left in the opposite direction and flew off into the night sky.
I got to my apartment and laid on my bed, staring at the ceiling. Did I really save a pro-hero? Was he embarrassed? I felt awful. Of course, I wanted him to win. I couldn’t bear to see someone’s internal clock run down that quickly without me doing anything. It was a reflex.
...............................................................................................
The next day, I was scheduled another exhausting shift. However, I was privately scheduled for a party to create a unique sushi experience with some guests. It was a four-top, 2 men and 2 ladies. They take their seats as I prepare their courses. I greet the guests. One of the men looks familiar, but I couldn’t put my finger on it. I bow to them and my manager comes in to greet the guests. He seems excited to see them. “Thank you Ground Zero and Red Riot for your service. If there’s anything to make your experience more enjoyable, please let us know,” he said eagerly. Pro-heros. I’m serving pro-heroes. I remembered last night and immediately knew why I recognized that face. I saved Red Riot.
Red Riot pulled out the chair for his lady and so did Ground Zero. “Katsuki, this place looks amazing,” his date said. “All for you, baby girl,” he kissed her on the cheek. I kept my head low as I explained the process of the dinner and asked for their recommendations. Red Riot cocked his head to the side looking at me, but his date would pull his face into hers. I prepared the courses in front of them. Course 1 was a cold appetizer, course 2 was a hot appetizer. The ladies would tease their dates by cleaning off something on their face or random kisses at the table. I tried to not let it bother me. It wasn’t my business. Course 3 was a main course. I could tell that Ground Zero had his hand in his date’s skirt by her facial expressions. Red Riot was constantly showering his date with kisses. I let them enjoy their course, so I left the room.
I went to the bathroom to freshen up a little for the second half of my shift. When I left, I ran into Red Riot. “I’m sorry, chef. Please excuse me. Your food is so fresh and amazing,” he said. I thanked him. “Hey, I was wondering, do I know you from somewhere,” he continued. I simply shook my head ‘no’ and continued to walk back to the kitchen. I came back to the table for course 4, the palate cleanser and course 5 dessert. I got creative and made an interactive dessert for the ladies to enjoy. The ladies would feed their dates berries and lick chocolate off their fingers. It was just too much at this point. Get a room, already. The ladies excused themselves from the table as I was cleaning up my station. Ground Zero followed them, leaving Red Riot alone. He stared at me as I kept my head down. “Wait, it’s you. You were the one that saved me last night,” he said.
“No, sir,” I began, “You must have confused me for someone else.”
“Don’t deny that. I recognize your eyes. I should be thanking you for being there for me. Please tell me your name,” he said.
“I’m (Y/N). I felt bad that you felt vulnerable, so I didn’t want to take the credit for saving you since you’re the one supposed to be protecting me,” I said.
“Don’t you worry. I will beat him and protect you,” he said confidently.
“I know you will,” I reassured him. He smiled and I smiled back. The ladies and Ground Zero came back. Red Riot paid the bill. The men escort the ladies out. Red Riot looks back at me and smiles as he leaves.
I pull through the second half of my shift, but all I could think about was Red Riot. Was it his charm? Was he genuinely concerned for me? I mean, all pro-heroes are like that. Why would he give a civilian any attention when he has a lot to save? I clean up my station and bow to my superior.
Back in the alleyway, I found Red Riot, alone. “(Y/N),” he said as he ran over to me.
“Didn’t you have a date,” I asked.
“Yeah, but apparently she was more interested in Bakugo than me. Gotta love, modern dating, huh,” he laughed.
“I’m sorry,” I said.
“It’s alright. Would you want me to walk you home,” he asked willingly.
“S—sure,” I said, “So Red Riot—”
“I should probably introduce myself. I’m Eijiro Kirishima,” he laughed.
“Kirishima,” I continued, “Did you like the sushi?”
“Yes, thank you for an awesome experience, (Y/N),” he smiled. I take out my phone and browse through it. “Oh, sunflowers. Do you like them,” Kirishima looked at my lockscreen.
“Yeah, it’s the only flower that has a heart,” I said.
“Sunflowers have hearts?” he puzzled.
“Well not actually. When the sun is away, sunflowers turn to each other for light. I wish more people would be more open to give and receive light from others,” I smiled.
“I see,” Kirishima said. We arrive at the front entrance of my apartment. “Thanks again for everything,” he said. I smiled and thanked him for walking me home. I got in the elevator and he waved bye to me as it closed the doors.
…………………………………………………………………………
Sunday, the next day, I had the day off, so I decided to hit the gym in the morning. I worked on legs and arms with some cardio. When I was dripping in sweat, I stretched myself out on the mats. “(Y/N),” I heard a voice. It was Kirishima. He had a compression shirt to show off his muscles and loose shorts. “Hey,” I said.
“You’re an early bird too,” he laughed.
“I try to be sometimes,” I chuckled.
“Hey, I was wondering if you wanted to have breakfast with me. I know this awesome place for omelets,” Kirishima said.
“Just me and you,” I asked.
“Yeah,” he laughed, “If that’s okay with you.”
“S—sure. That—that’d be great,” I stumbled.
“Awesome! I’ll shower up and meet you at the front,” he said. He walked away, fist bumped a guy, and looked back at me and winked. Was he flirting with me?
Both of us showered up and I met him at the entrance. “Would you mind if I drive? I can drop you off back here,” Kirishima said.
“Sure, I guess,” I said. I got into his car and his car was fairly clean compared to other cars that I know.
We arrive at the restaurant. It has a calm atmosphere with waterfalls and foliage. We order some food and some to share. “I hope you’re hungry. I tend to eat a lot after a workout,” he said, bashfully.
We get to know each other a little better knowing our hobbies, interests, and things we like. His laugh was so pure, and I enjoy spending time with him. We parted ways. “Hey, would you mind if I got your number,” he asked. I smiled and gave it to him. “Awesome, I’ll see you around,” he smiled.
After a while, I would look at the news and watch Red Riot defeat villains with Ground Zero. I would smile at the television. I haven’t seen him since the breakfast, but clearly, he’s been busy trying to keep the city safe. I feel my crush getting stronger the more I think about him. No. I can’t let him get to me. My last relationship was too toxic, and I hate that it defers me from something great, but I have to keep my guard up. I started fading in and out of consciousness.
“Hey (Y/N), I’m about to pick up some food. Would you mind if I came over,” he texted me.
“Sure,” I texted him back with my address. About half an hour later, there was a knock at my door. It was him.
“Hi, may I come in?” He had takeout, sunflowers, and taiyaki. I invited him in and he has the biggest smile on his face. “Uh, these are for you. I thought you would appreciate them,” he blushed.
“Thank you Kirishima, you’re so sweet,” I looked for a vase. He saw that I had the news on. “Oh, so I see you were watching me defeat the invisible man with Bakugo,” he said.
“Of course,” I said, “I told you I would support you.” He blushed as he gathered the takeout to the couch. My couch was the ones where you sink into, he didn’t really expect that when he sunk in the middle. I chuckled. “Your couch is so comfy, but I need some help,” he laughed. I helped him up with the food and sat next to him. “Enough of the news, what are you currently watching on Netflix,” he asked.
“I’ve been watching this cooking show, but I’m sure you don’t want to watch that,” I said, embarrassed.
“No, I do! I love food,” he smiled. We ate takeout as we watched my cooking show. He seemed really into it. He had a lot of questions on different cuisines and questioned a lot of American combinations. I offered to clean up our food and enjoy our taiyaki.
“What do you want to watch? We already watched what I wanted to,” I asked. “Well I’m kinda nerdy and watch hero movies,” he said. “I like hero movies,” I smiled.
I chose the movie as I took another bite of the fish pastry and I look over to see him smiling at me. “Is there something on my face,” I said with a mouth full. He laughed. “No—no sorry,” he blushed. I finished my taytaki and so did he. I got us a blanket to share. “I’m sorry that my apartment is cold,” I said.
“Well come here,” he offered his arm around me. My heart stopped as I entered his embrace. I almost wanted to push him away. I know he was being nice to make me warm, but it was almost too overwhelming for me. I tried to hide that I was breathing heavier as my eyes started to water. I started twitching in his arms. “What’s wrong,” he asked with concern. He paused the movie and was all ears. I stood up in front of him.
“I’m sorry,” I said through my tears. “What is it? I want to understand,” he said.
“Eijiro, I don’t know how to think, act, or feel around you. You’ve been so nice to me and when you touch me, it is so comforting where I get overwhelmed because I want trust you. I haven’t felt that way in a long time and I’m sorry,” I vomited. I held my face in my hands in embarrassment, but then I felt his arms around me.
“Don’t be sorry,” he said holding me, “You are strong and full of light. I’m sorry to overwhelm you with so much. And for the record, I can’t stop thinking about you too. You saved my life. You would be a great sidekick, or even a hero.”
I started to tear up more in his arms, and he didn’t let go. He was so soft and warm, regardless of his hardening quirk. “Here, let’s continue this cuddle session on the couch,” he offered. We plopped on the couch and he started to laugh. “You know,” he began, “This is gonna sound weird, but you cry pretty. Most people I know cry ugly like this,” he wailed. I laughed through my tears. “There’s a smile,” he blushed. He resumes the movie, and he adjusts me to where I am on top of him.
His heartbeat was calm and content. I looked up at him and he looked down to me and smiled. I smiled back and put my head back on his chest. I started to fall asleep to the symphonies of his breathing.
Half asleep, I look up at Kirishima and he’s asleep to the credits rolling. I get up slowly off of him, which awakens him. “Looks like we both fell asleep,” he yawned.
“Yeah,” I laughed, “Would you like to stay the night,” I asked. Still half asleep he said, “Sure.”
He stood up and gave me a hug. In the hug, he cupped my face towards his and lightly kissed me. Initially, we smiled, but came to realization on what happened. “I’m sorry. That was too forward of me,” he whispered. I kissed him back and he didn’t want me to stop. “Now, we’re even,” I whispered back. Kirishima pulled me into an embrace kissing me softly. Our kiss turned slow and passionate. He lifted me from my waist and carried me into my room. We laid on the bed as our kiss deepens. He pulls away and smiles. He lightly traces my face. “So beautiful,” he said softly. I blush into his hands. We both cuddle each other and fall asleep.
..................................................................................................
The next morning, I reach out for Kirishima, but then wake up to the smells of breakfast. I walk over to my kitchen to see him making breakfast. “Hey, you’re awake. I hope you don’t mind. I made breakfast. That cooking show got me inspired,” he smiled. I laughed as I helped him set the table. We exchanged looks as we took our first bites. “Did you sleep okay,” I asked.
“Like a rock,” he said, “You kinda wiggle your nose a little when you sleep. I thought it was cute.”
Kirishima gets a phone call from Bakugo. “Excuse me,” he said. After a few seconds, his face turned serious and hung up the phone. “Hey, uh, I gotta go. But I hope you enjoy breakfast and I’ll text you later, okay,” he kissed me on the forehead and bolted out the door.
I turned on the news and there was a villain holding a child hostage. Ground Zero and Red Riot showed up at the scene to save the child. “I’m here to support you,” I said eating breakfast and watching the news. After a heated battle, the pro-heroes returned the child to their parents. Red Riot turns to the media and points at the camera. “You’re my sunflower,” he says.

Flake von Rammstein, früher Feeling B im interview - 2019
Author Lars Schmidt, from
English translation
The other bands of the GDR: Feeling B
"We showed that you could have a lot of fun in the GDR"
From the mid-80s onwards, a whole bunch of young, non-conformist bands embodied the lifestyle of the GDR youth with their music and thus shaped the sound of the change. Also there: Feeling B. Keyboard player Flake, now with Rammstein, tells how diligent his music used to be, what went on at village concerts and how he experienced the fall of the Berlin Wall.
Today, Feeling B is often portrayed as the GDR punk band - also due to the connection to Rammstein. Is that justified?
Feeling B wasn't actually a punk band. We didn't really fit in anywhere. The punks didn't accept us because we basically didn't make punk music. Because we weren't edgy enough from our whole life and appearance. And the right rock bands didn't take us seriously either because we were so amateurish, couldn't play properly and deliberately cultivated and maintained our amateurism. At that time we weren't a serious band for anyone. It was very difficult to place us anywhere. Because we were all just too bad. We were an amateur band. But if you say punk is, if you don't give a shit, if you don't care about the rules and only do what you want, then we were a punk band. But less about the music. The fact that we are perceived as a GDR punk band today is only due to the fact that we were the only one of these bands who managed to bring out an LP with Amiga in GDR times.
How did you experience the GDR underground scene?
As a teenager at 16 or 17, I mainly noticed blues bands in the GDR. There was Freygang. And their singer André Greiner-Pol was punk at heart. Basically he played punk in a blues band, had a punky demeanor and some of the lyrics were already punk. Later we played our first concert as Feeling B with Freygang. They just took us with them and let us play in the break between their blocks. Even though we didn't have a permit back then. And nobody noticed. I noticed the first punk band in the east in 1983. It was called Rosa Extra. This was also the name of sanitary towels in the GDR. Shortly afterwards, there was an anti-riot and revolt to love. None of them had a state classification, so they weren't allowed to play. They were real punk bands and therefore they had nothing to do with the so-called "other bands". The so-called other bands were groups that had received a classification and thereby a state recognition. And besides punk, they were also influenced by other genres, for example ska or new wave.

Did the scene only take place in the big cities or was punk going on in the provinces too?
Our main area of activity was in the village. In Ebersbrunn, Lugau, Saalfeld, Lobenstein. In places that you only really know because there is a village hall. Where the promoter just bought the bands that people wanted to hear. And not the bands that were prescribed for him by the state. Things happened there that nobody knew anything about and nobody suspected anything. Forbidden bands played there by only changing their names. Bands played programs that were absolutely forbidden and people came and nobody noticed. The small villages could not be monitored so well and the Stasi could not see them. Berlin, on the other hand, was the capital of the GDR. If there are 20 punks banding together or 40 goths or 60 heavy metal fans, of course, the police will come and see what is going on and be suspicious. The youth clubs in Berlin were of course much more closely monitored. It was different in the village. Who goes to Lugau and looks at which band is playing? That was too strenuous for the state authorities.
Can one say that Feeling B were privileged because your singer Aljoscha Rompa was allowed to travel to the West?
Yes, because it enabled Aljoscha to get me a Casio keyboard. Such a small Casio toy instrument. That was my main musical instrument. Nowadays every musician would laugh to himself about it. That was really a 200 Mark West item from the toy store. But otherwise nobody in the East was interested in the fact that Aljoscha was allowed over. On the contrary. Rather, a hostile defensive stance built up.
What significance did the program "Parocktikum" have for the scene?
Lutz Schramm, the moderator, was the John Peel of the East. He was the first to play cassettes from Eastern bands on the radio. You can't credit him enough for that!
(photo from Flake's private collection)
How did you experience the fall of the wall?
We were in the crazy position that we were allowed to drive with Feeling B to West Berlin and West Germany shortly before the fall of the Berlin Wall. We suspected that the state wanted to show the West how cool we still are in the East and that we are opening up. It had already brought Western stars like Bruce Springsteen to the East. And we had been sent to the west. But we had a Stasi employee who pretended to be our manager. And he told us you can stay here too. That was a very clear offer that we should stay in the West. And we assume that was why we were allowed over there, to get us to disappear from the East. But that's how it came to be that we played in West Berlin on the evening the Berlin Wall came down. And suddenly a lot of friends come in while we're playing. A few had already fled via Hungary and the green border. And many of our acquaintances have already gone to the West. But that evening there was more. So I asked: "What's going on here. What are you doing here? Have you all left now?" They said: "No, the wall is open." I say: "Can't be true." Then we took our whole fee and got beer for everyone we knew. For us it was an incredible honor. When the wall goes up and everyone can leave the GDR for the first time - what do they do first? They go to the Feeling B concert. There is no better way to express sympathy. That touched me very much. That made it a great evening for us, of course.
How was the time after the fall of the Berlin Wall for Feeling B? Did your counterpart disappear with the end of the GDR?
We didn't sing directly against the GDR. We sang against certain things that were mostly due to the narrow-mindedness and madness of the people. And we had already seen on our first visits that in the West of course nothing is even a bit better. Rather everything is much worse. Aljoscha had already warned us in Eastern times: "If you think all the philistines are here, go west." In the GDR, we felt very comfortable as punks. After that it got worse bit by bit. But when I say that things got wrong during the reunification, that's no complaint. This law-free space after the fall of the Wall was very funny for a while. You could do anything and nobody knew it was allowed. Is it allowed or not? That was a very eventful time and I always got to bed late, to put it that way.
How much GDR is there in Rammstein?
Very very much. Since we were all socialized in the GDR, we think much less selfishly. Nobody tries to stand out. We don't quarrel. What counts for us is what the collective creates.
How do you rate the importance of Feeling B today?
We showed that you could very well have an unlikely lot of fun in the GDR. We made very light and relaxed music. And with that we brought in a little freshness. We also saw the funny side of every situation, were happy about it and made fun of it. We wanted to shape our whole life in such a way that we never scold but always laugh. So far we have largely succeeded. And we showed people that you don't have to play an instrument to make music. But that was more in the spirit of punk than time.
What do you particularly like to remember?
At some concerts I just had a feeling of joy. And the people were also happy, it was like a fair. An event outside of space and time. At a Feeling B concert, everything was allowed and everything was fun. The party went on into the night and there was no difference between the band and the fans. It was all a mass of young people who had a lot of fun in life and could also enjoy it.

Warriors in Red Armor

Chapter Four
Nora I
Nora was in one of the nicer cells. She didn't like to brag, but she had been arrested often enough to know the difference. And she had the cell to herself, which was new and different. Normally, the Corrie Guard shoved as many beings into each cell as they could manage without crushing anyone.
Soon enough, some of the more violent members of Clone Rights filled the surrounding cells. Even then, Nora's cell remained single-occupancy.
"You gonna get us outta this one, Czajak?" a male Bothan named Esk Meh'reer asked through the transparisteel barrier.
"Of course, Meh'reer," Nora said with a scoff. "We didn't even do anything. This one'll be easier than any of the other times."
"Well, you didn't do anything," Meh'reer told her with a grin. "We may have defaced some property after we saw you get arrested. Nothing too bad, though. Just tore down some signs. Oh, actually, I'm pretty sure Gadi threw a bench."
Nora rolled her eyes at the mention of the exuberant Lasat. "Gadi always throws something. I think she cares more about throwing stuff around than she does about getting rights for clones, but at least she's on our side."
"Hey, our cells share a wall!" Gadi cheered, pushing herself out of the crowd as if she had been summoned. "Want me to see if I can throw this bed?"
"Probably not, Gadi," Nora discouraged. "It'll be a lot harder to fight the charges if we start breaking things inside of the precinct."
"Aw, you'll be able to get us out of it," Gadi told her. "You're the best lawyer on Coruscant!"
Nora chuckled and shook her head, choosing not to tell her fellow protesters that she may not be a lawyer much longer if she kept doing this. Her boss had already threatened to demote her after he had found out about her work. Was it a bad thing that she had a tendency to defend protesters pro bono?
"Nora Czajak," a clone trooper announced, opening the door to Nora's cell. "You're being charged, come with me."
Surprise made Nora slow. The charges were almost never filed this quickly. She had been arrested less than twelve hours ago! Still, the sooner she knew how bad things were going to be, the sooner she could start forming a defense for herself and the others. Gamely, she rose and followed the trooper, admiring his red-accented armor as she went.
When she stepped from the room, cheers erupted from the surrounding cells.
"Go, Nora!"
"Give 'em hell!"
"Pinch that guy's ass while you're in there!"
"Gadi…" Nora sighed to fight back a chuckle. The temptation to laugh grew worse when she turned and found that the trooper had stopped and was staring at her. She couldn't see through his helmet, obviously, but she would have bet that he looked less than thrilled. With her most professional lawyer smile, she said, "Following you, sir."
He shook his head a little bit and kept walking. They passed another red-accented trooper as they walked, and he leaned in a bit to place his helmet's speakers next to Nora's ear. "If you pinch Thorn's shebs, I'll transfer you twenty credits."
"Will that be worth the jail time for harassment, though?" she asked with a conspiratorial grin.
He shrugged. "It would be for me."
"Thire, leave her alone," her escort - presumably Thorn - ordered. "I have to take her to see Stone."
Stone was one of Nora's favorite troopers, and she didn't even need Thorn's guidance to find her way to his office. Thorn gave a polite knock on the door. "Nora Czajak for you, Commander."
"Stone! How are you? Did you redecorate the office?" Nora asked, breezing into the office like it was her own.
Stone blinked at her. "Of course I didn't redecorate. When would I have redecorated? You were here last week."
"That is a difficult point to argue," she conceded.
"I'm sure you'll figure out a way," Stone said dryly. "Thank you, Commander Thorn."
As soon as Thorn had left, Nora crossed her legs comfortably and leaned forward to stare at Stone. "So, what's it going to be this time, Commander? A fine, some jail time..?"
"Neither," Stone told her shortly, crossing his arms over his chest. It would have looked more natural if he weren't in full armor - minus the helmet - but Nora had to admit that there was something intimidating about the dull crack of plastoid meeting plastoid. "Command has decided that fines don't seem to work for you. And every time you spend more than a few days in jail, you come out with more violent followers for your Clone Rights group. Then those followers trash the city even worse in your next demonstration. It's a vicious cycle."
"Mm, such a conundrum," Nora agreed. "What's the solution, Stone?"
"Community service."
Now, it was Nora's turn to blink in confusion. "Community service? My sentence is community service?"
"Yeah, a hundred hours of it," he said, shaking his head a bit.
"And- what about the others? What are they getting sentenced to?"
"Community service," Stone repeated, sounding almost as confused as she was. "All of the demonstrators we arrested are serving time. Not as much as you, but it'll all be community service."
Nora opened her mouth, closed it, and opened it again. "Stone, this is stupid. What is going on? Community service is for parking violations and cursing at shop-keepers. You have us dead to rights on destruction of property, disturbing the peace, and intention to incite a riot. What are you doing?"
"Are you asking for a harsher punishment?" Stone asked with a twinkle in his brown eyes.
"Of course not!" she snapped. "It's just suspicious. Since when does the Coruscant Guard let violations like this slide?"
"Since today," he said with a shrug. "Orders straight from Head Commander Fox himself."
"Head Commander Fox?" Nora asked, distracted by the mention of the clone trooper she had met the previous night. He had been willing to debate her in a cruiser on the way back to the precinct. His method of forming an argument had been clumsy, but his points had been valid. It was a welcome distraction from the unpleasantness of the march's end. And here she was, finding out that Fox was actually the commander in charge of the other commanders. "What was a Head Commander of the GAR doing babysitting a Clone Rights march?"
"Maybe he wanted to come see your model behavior first-hand," Stone told her sarcastically. At Nora's sharp look, he relented. "Fine. Commander Fox doesn't pass duties along. He does everything he asks his men to do. That includes supervising marches, pulling patrols, and booking troublemakers."
Ignoring the pointed implication that she was a troublemaker, Nora changed the subject. "Who is going to be supervising my community service hours?"
"That'll be…" Stone consulted a page in front of him before answering - though how he found a single piece of flimsi in the disaster zone that was his desk was beyond Nora. "Trooper Beam. He's in charge of community service efforts. Poor evaar is gonna have his work cut out for him, supervising your protesters."
"That has to be about seventy people," she argued. "One trooper can't supervise all of us."
"That's his job," Stone said with a shrug.
Nora leaned back, lost in thought. "You know, it would be terrible of me to expect one trooper to supervise all of the arrested Clone Rights members and all one-hundred hours of my own community service. I should really request to be assigned to another Coruscant Guard trooper."
"Who were you thinking?" Stone's voice was filled with wariness.
Nora peered thoughtfully around the room. The morning sunlight didn't even reach this part of Coruscant. Instead, the light from a nearby holo-ad provided the only outside light in the commander's office.
When she felt Stone staring at her impatiently, Nora smirked and answered, "Why, Head Commander Fox, of course."
---
Fox II
It had been a long night, and it promised to be an even longer day. Fox was already on his second set of stims, and he still had an estimated twenty hours before he could think about collapsing in his quarters.
At that particular moment, he was talking to Sergeant Hound about some woman the sergeant was processing. He was trying, anyway. Fox's attention was far away. Part of him was trying to calculate how long it had been since he had last slept while the rest of him was trying to calculate how long he had until he could sleep again.
"So, what do you think, Commander?" Hound asked, bringing Fox's attention back to him.
"You know I trust you, Hound," Fox told the trooper, patting him on the shoulder. "Do what you think is best."
"Really? Thank you, sir!" Hound said, face brightening.
Briefly wondering what he had just agreed to, Fox turned away and was immediately met with Commander Stone beckoning him over.
"Sir, I need you to come speak with the woman I'm sentencing."
"You know you're the one in charge of sentencing, Commander Stone," Fox reminded.
"I know, sir, but she's requesting that you oversee her community service personally," Stone told him.
Fox's brows lifted before he could stop the expression. "And that is Trooper Beam's area." Honestly, what was the point of dividing the Coruscant Guard into departments if everyone was going to ask him to do their job anyway?
"Yes, sir, but…" Stone sighed, looking more defeated than Fox had ever seen him. "Can you please come tell her that? She won't take my refusal as a proper answer."
Fox shook his head, but started for Stone's office. "Who is this woman?"
"Nora Czajak."
"Kriff, no," Fox refused before he could think better of it.
"You're lucky I'm not easily offended, Head Commander," Czajak said, appearing in the doorway of Stone's office.
"I won't oversee your community service," Fox snapped.
"Maybe you should step inside, Commander," Stone wearily advised. "She has a full argument ready."
Well, he could at least hear her out. Fox entered Stone's office, immediately feeling as though a trap had been sprung when the other commander shut the door - with himself on the outside. Fox cracked the door open enough to peer out. "Stone, aren't you coming?"
"Kriff, no, Commander," Stone denied. "I'm going to get some caf and maybe some alcohol. Good luck."
When Fox turned back around, he found that Nora had seated herself in Stone's chair behind the Commander's desk. Everything was a power game for her. Since he refused to give her the satisfaction of asking her to leave the seat, Fox walked to the transparisteel window beside her. He peered outside, as if an advertisement for nerf steaks was the most interesting thing he had seen all day.
"I still won't oversee your community service," Fox's tone was blunt.
"You look like hell," Czajak's tone was also blunt, and he almost turned to look at her, but caught himself in time. "Don't you sleep?"
Even the mention of sleep was enough to make his eyes burn. "I'm a busy man, Czajak. Too busy for sleep and too busy to supervise community service hours."
"Maybe you should sit down before you fall down, Commander."
He scoffed, still staring out of the window. "I don't need your pity."
A moment later, a hard bump against the back of his knees had Fox falling backward into a chair he vaguely recognized as the one that sat behind Stone's desk. Czajak stepped around him, shaking her head, and sat down in a guest chair. Fox frowned. She had given up a position of power, the implied high ground in this office.
"I think you should be the one to oversee my community service," she started.
"I disagree," Fox countered.
"You are the one who decided that community service was the right answer for members of Clone Rights who were arrested, yes?" He nodded, already searching for the trap in her question. "How is it fair for you to put that much work on your trooper in charge of overseeing it? He didn't ask for so much responsibility."
Why was this woman always fighting to infantilize him and his brothers? "I assure you, Beam is fully capable of withstanding the stress."
"Well, I would hate to put him in such a bad position," Czajak mused. "I probably would feel so guilty that I would skip all my community service appointments."
"Then you'll be arrested for failure to appear."
"And I'll be sentenced to jail time, in which I will gain more followers," she said with a satisfied smile. "That's the fear, correct?"
Kriffing Stone and his running mouth. Fox gritted his teeth. "If you fail to appear for appointments, I will take the appropriate measures to ensure that you pay your debt to society."
"I'm sure you would," Czajak agreed easily. Too easily. "However, would it not be more simple to agree to oversee my community service yourself? We could avoid all of the unpleasantness for the low price of one-hundred hours of your time."
"You couldn't afford that low price," Fox snorted.
Czajak's eyes glinted in amusement. "How about this, then? Your men rave about your leadership and how you never ask them to do anything you wouldn't be willing to do yourself. I know most of your men consider me to be the worst of the worst. I received the highest number of required community service hours. By taking on the responsibility of… well, of me, you would be proving that your willingness to do all aspects of the job is true in every situation."
Fox's head ached as he tried to find a way of refuting her point. It was a solid argument and she knew it from the way she was smiling at him. He suddenly understood why Commander Stone had refused to come to this part of the meeting.
"Fine," he ground out, voice low and harsh. "I'll oversee your community service. I don't know why you're being so insistent about it, but it won't be fun. You'll show up when and where I tell you, and stay as long as I deem fit. And if I hear a single complaint from you, I'll toss you in a cell, new followers be karked. Understood?"
"Perfectly, Commander," Czajak agreed. She was all demure compliance now that she had gotten her way. "Please notify me with the details of our first meeting."
"Consider yourself dismissed," Fox growled at her.
Czajak winked and rose to leave. As she opened the door, Fox heard Chase say, "Ouch! That one pinched me!"
"We talked about this, Gadi!" Nora lectured, leaving Stone's door to close behind her.
Fox rubbed at the lines between his brows. For his own sake, he took a moment to breathe before he had to go deal with whatever that was about.
---
Ransom I
"Okay, the Commander said I was cleared to deal with you as I see fit."
The sentence may have been worded as a threat, but Ransom could sense no malice in the trooper's tone. It didn't matter either way. She had been arrested too many times to count. There was nothing this pleasant-faced officer could do that would frighten her. Well, short of throwing her to his massiff. Even then, she was certain that she would do a great deal of damage before it could take her down.
"Whoa, what's with that face?" he asked, and Ransom immediately smoothed her expression.
"Just waiting for this to be over."
"I also treasure our time together," he smiled, reaching out a hand as if to pat her on the arm. Ransom was a comical distance away, seated on the other side of a wide desk, and she raised one eyebrow in his direction.
"Good news is that I think I've finally located your file," he said, not deterred by her lack of response. He hadn't been all day, actually. Ransom wasn't willing to work with him at all. She believed that he shouldn't need to read through a history of her life to know that the alterations to her cybernetics were illegal and needed to be removed or licensed. Instead, the trooper - who had cheerfully introduced himself several times as Sergeant Hound - had used a biometric scan to track her file.
"Ransom," Hound read from the display. He stared at her for a long moment, dark brows furrowed. "Your name is Ransom?"
"Your name is Hound," she fired back immediately. "Are you sure you want to start this fight?"
"Yeah, but most civvies have a last name."
"Why would I need a last name?" Ransom asked with a frown. "To keep from being confused with all of the other cybernetically-altered Coruscanti women named Ransom?"
"...That's true," Hound conceded. He turned his attention back to the screen and Ransom tensed a bit at what he would find. She braced herself for any number of unpleasant responses. In the past, she had seen everything from pity to awe to disgust, but he simply scanned through the documents - she had a lot of them - and nodded. "Well, you're being charged with disturbing the peace, but that isn't worth jail time or any significant fine. The Head Commander has been on a real community service kick lately, so we'll get you signed up for some of that."
"I'd rather take the jail time," Ransom spat out.
"No you wouldn't," Hound said seriously. "The jail is rough. Full of unsavory characters, terrible food, bad lighting. Plus, your job wouldn't take too kindly to you spending time in jail. None of them ever do. Don't you want to keep working at…" he checked the screen again, "...Red Squad?"
"Red Squad wouldn't fire me for being in jail," Ransom assured him.
"You can't know that for sure," Hound argued. "Trust me, community service is the better way to go."
"I do know for sure, actually," Ransom argued, unsure of why she was pressing the issue.
"Why, you sleeping with the boss or something?" he asked, tossing the datapad to land on the desk's surface.
Ransom smirked a bit at that. "Only in the occasional dry season. I am the boss. Owner, actually. I run Red Squad."
Hound laughed at that, and it was such a rich, cheerful sound that Ransom almost didn't mind that he was laughing at her. Almost.
"Your name is Ransom, no last name, and you own and run a business called 'Red Squad'. Are you secretly a clone trooper?"
"If I ran a squad, wouldn't that mean I outranked you?" Ransom fired back.
"Probably," he said, seeming unconcerned. "It would make you a captain, at least."
"Well, I already have a better-regulation haircut than you," she tried again. She had yet to see a member of the GAR rise to the bait about ranks - particularly the implication that a civilian outranked them - but clone troopers were notoriously fastidious about their appearance.
Hound raked a hand through his too-long hair and grinned at her. "Yeah, it's been a while since I visited the barber. Is my hair distracting you?"
"Hardly," Ransom snorted, pressing away the spark that had lit her belly at his waggling eyebrows.
"Good, then let's talk about your community service," he said. "Normally, you would be in the care of Trooper Beam, but he's recently experienced a flood of requests. I have it on good authority that he has some three thousand hours of community service to oversee after today, so I'll take care of supervising your hours. I'm thinking forty should be more than enough for something as minor as disturbing the peace. Give me your comlink information and I'll contact you for scheduling."
Ransom felt her eyes fly wide before she could bite back the response. "No."
"No?" Hound asked with a pouty sort of frown.
"You're an ARF trooper," she tried again.
Hound beamed warmly at her. "Great job! The average civilian doesn't even know what an ARF trooper is, let alone how to recognize one."
"I'm not an average civilian," Ransom told him, the response flat. "But my point is that you're an ARF. I don't want to do any community service that has to do with massiffs."
His dark eyes softened and warmed with understanding, and Ransom hated it. She didn't want - didn't need - anyone's pity. In her irritation, she lashed out. "So throw me in jail if you want to, bucket head, but I refuse to work with those beasts."
"Hey, I get it," he sympathized, face still kind. Ransom wanted to put her fist through it.
"No, you really don't," she snarled. "I'll-"
"Everything okay in here?" another trooper asked, ducking into the small office.
"Yeah, just chatting," Hound said easily, as if Ransom hadn't been in the middle of threatening him. "What are you up to, Stone?"
"Head Commander's in my office with the Czajak woman," he explained. "I needed to lie low."
"Makes sense to me," Hound gave a sympathetic grimace. "Ransom and I are going over community service options. You're usually in charge of bookings. Care to explain the process?"
"Oh, uh…" Stone hesitated. Ransom would bet that he hadn't expected Hound to actually need help. "We try to match civilians with their skills and interests."
"So you wouldn't force someone to work with an animal they have a strong dislike towards?" Ransom asked sharply, full of skepticism.
"Absolutely not," Stone answered with finality. "And if you mean the massiffs, a lot of civvies are uncomfortable around them. They're not even an option for community service, so there's no worry about that."
"Thank you, Stone!" Hound said, voice cheerful. Looking more than a bit confused, Stone gave a short nod and left. "Feel better?"
"If you knew working with massiffs wasn't an option, why didn't you tell me that?" Ransom crossed her arms over her chest.
"It seemed like you weren't really interested in listening to me," he said with a shrug.
"So you won't need my comlink information after all," she summarized.
"Now, no one said that," Hound hedged. "I can still supervise your community service."
"How?"
"Hey, I do other work around here!" he said, clearly defensive. "I can trade shifts around, pick up some duties cleaning streets or… working with- um, old people..?"
"I think I'll pass," Ransom told him with a snort.
"Suit yourself," Hound shrugged. "In that case, I'll still be the one supervising the licensing process for those cybernetic alterations."
Ransom was ready to argue, but something about the look in his eyes warned that he wouldn't give in so easily. Telling herself she would get a new frequency as soon as she was done registering the alterations, Ransom gave Hound the information he needed. She couldn't leave the precinct soon enough.

A/N - There! A full chapter without one Hound POV! Are you proud of me? I'm proud of me. And with this chapter, we've set up all of our couples! Though I might end up having to make a one-shot or side fic with Stone since I love him. This is also one of the longer chapters of this story, so congrats for getting through it!

Y/N pressed her ear to the phone receiver, brows furrowed. Maybe she heard it wrong. As soon as the message ended, she pressed the prompt to repeat it.
“YN listen, I…uh…I know this is a crappy way to end things, but it’s not working for me, and I believe we want different things. I hope you find someone worth your time. Love you. Oh, and Merry Christmas.”
Nope, that’s what she heard. She stared at her phone in disbelief. Really? A break up on Christmas Eve? Her hands shook as she placed the phone into her locker. She put her head inside and screamed into her coat. Her co-worker and close friend, Jungkook, entered the employee break room whistling, setting his bag down, but paused once he saw her head buried in her locker. He watched her curiously.
“Everything okay, Y/N?”
She sniffed, removing her head from inside, and slumped down onto the bench. She rubbed her eyes, trying to fight the tears. “No. Everything sucks.”
He groaned, joining her on the bench. He didn’t like seeing her in this state. He just opened his arms, allowing her in, and she began to sob, wetting his shirt in the process. It surprised her because he wasn’t super emotional, but he was here for her, which made her feel good to know he was supportive.
“He broke up with me on Christmas Eve,” she mumbled into his chest.
Jungkook frowned, shaking his head. “Seriously? That prick. Who breaks up with someone on Christmas. You don’t deserve that. I’m sorry, Y/N.”
Y/N hiccupped and grabbed a tissue off the coffee table, wiping her face with a deep sigh. He patted her back gently as he stood. “You’re going to be okay, right? I can ask the boss if you need a replacement.
She shook her head, blowing her nose. “No. No. I need the distraction, but thank you.”
Jungkook smiled at her, tousling her hair, making her swat his hand with a smile, adjusting her hat. “Alright. Let’s get upstairs before we have a riot.”
She chuckled as she looked herself over in the mirror. Y/N smoothed the wrinkles from the bright green dress with red trimming. The bells attached to her dress and matching hat jingled as she turned around, giving herself one last look over. With a nod, she followed Jungkook back out of the breakroom.
***
“Attention holiday shoppers, the mall will be closing in twenty minutes. Please make all purchases at that time. Last call for Santa photos. Have a very Merry Christmas.”
Y/N wanted to jump for joy. At least that was good news. The day was almost over. She stretched, a smile across her face as the flash from the camera went off. With a giggle, she led the child towards their family with a wave.
“Thank you! Merry Christmas!”
She turned, giving Ben, their department store Santa Claus a sigh.
“Is it me, or does the line seem to be getting longer?”
He and Jungkook laughed at her comment. “It’s just you. Relax, we’ve got only twenty minutes left, and then we’ll be free of these–,” he stopped whispering as another family came up for pictures. “HO HO HO! Merry Christmas! Tinsel, bring some candy canes up!”
“Right away, Santa!” Y/N ran over to the basket and handed one to each kid. “Welcome to Santa’s shop! I’m Tinsel, Santa’s elf in charge!”
Soon the kids posed as Jungkook took a few photos, handing the parents the film with a smile. “Take this over to the booth to pay. Merry Christmas!”
Taehyung held his little sister’s hand as they walked to the middle of the mall. “Hurry, TaeTae! I want to see Santa!”
He chuckled, squeezing her hand as she dragged him along. “Be patient, Soyoung. We’ll get there soon enough.”
Soyoung pouted, tugging his hand. “B-But the store is going to close!”
Taehyung sighed, quickening his steps. “Okay. Okay. I’ll walk faster.” He adjusted the bags in his free hand as they walked faster. They reached the line moments later, standing as he glanced down with her.
“We made it. Happy now?”
Soyoung nodded with a boxy grin. “Yes!” She bounced up and down. “I have a lot to ask him.”
“Now. Now. Santa is a busy man. Don’t overwhelm him, Soyoung.”
“I won’t, TaeTae.”
***
“Is it me, or is the room getting hotter?” Y/N asked, fanning herself. Jungkook looked up from the camera, shaking his head. “I feel fine.” She sighed, checking her water bottle. Empty. The lights around her only made it hotter to stand. Y/N looked over the line. Only a few families left. She could get through it. Hand out a few more candy canes, take some more pictures, then head home to a large glass of red wine.
Taehyung grinned as they reached the front of the line. “Almost our turn Soyoung!”
She jumped with a giggle. “Yay!”
But as Soyoung stared at the bright lights, decorations, and Santa looming in the large throne, her face paled. She whimpered, trying to hide behind Taehyung.
“I-I don’t want to see him.”
Taehyung’s brows knitted, staring at her. “But you were excited a minute ago.”
She tugged on his coat. “I changed my mind. I don’t wanna see him.”
Taehyung sighed, crouching down to her eye level. “Soyoung–”
Her eyes welled with tears as she began to cry. People began to stare, making Taehyung flustered as he tried to calm her down, but she wailed louder.
Jungkook looked up at the noise and waved at Y/N. “Code blue Christmas!”
Ben groaned, rubbing his forehead. “This is our last customer. Y/N, take care of it.”
She sighed as she walked over them with a smile, grabbing the basket filled with assorted candy canes. She crouched down by the crying girl and held one out for her.
“Hiya! I’m Tinsel. Are those tears I see?”
Taehyung smiled at Y/N and stood up. “Hi Tinsel,” he brought his sister forward. “This is Soyoung. She’s a little scared to see Santa.”
Y/N smiled at her. “Hi, Soyoung. Why are you scared to see Santa?”
Soyoung sniffled, drying her eyes. She looked at Taehyung as he nodded for her to talk. “He looks scary.”
“Scary?” Y/N gave her another smile. “Santa is the biggest softie. He wouldn’t hurt a fly. Trust me, I know. I work for him.”
“You do?”
“Uh, huh. The reindeer would agree too.”
“I-I don’t know–”
“How about I walk up with you, and we’ll talk to him together. What do you say?”
Soyoung clutched Taehyung’s coat staring at Y/N. “Only if he can come too.”
Y/N nodded. “Of course, your dad can come.”
Taehyung’s cheeks became flushed as Soyoung giggled. “Uh, she’s my little sister.”
Y/N covered her mouth as she got flustered. “Oh, goodness! I’m sorry. I thought–”
He smiled with a boxy grin. “No worries. It happens all the time.”
Y/N held her hand out for Soyoung to take. “Well, Miss Soyoung, let’s see Santa with your big brother.”
Soyoung took Y/N’s hand as shyness took over and walked up the trail to see Santa Claus. Y/N gave Jungkook a nod as if to say, ‘everything is fine’ and stopped in front of Ben.
“Tinsel reporting for duty Santa. I have a new friend who is anxious to see you!”
Ben held his stomach and let out a jolly belly laugh. “Well, hello there!”
Soyoung waved, shuffling her feet. “Hi, Santa.”
“Why don’t you come on up and we can chat?”
The shyness dissipated as she walked closer and stood next to Santa Claus. They chatted animatedly. The smile on her face grew more and more as she leaned over and whispered in his ear.
Taehyung exhaled as he turned to look at Y/N with a smile. “Thank you.”
“It was no trouble,” she answered. “I was happy to help.”
Taehyung stared at her for a moment, blushing. He couldn’t help but notice how cute she looked in the elf costume. He wasn’t one to be awkward; in fact, he was pretty confident in most situations, but being in front of her made him a little infatuated.
“Miss Tinsel?”
Y/N was about to speak up just when a wave of dizziness hit her. Everything went black as she fell backward into the side of the North Pole sign.
“Miss? Miss? Can you hear me?”
Y/N’s eyes fluttered open. As everything began to focus, she could see Ben, Jungkook, Soyoung’s brother and Soyoung standing near her. Y/N tried to stand as Taehyung held his hand up to stop her. “Don’t move; you might have hit your head during your fall.”
“I’m fine,” she said as her cheeks warmed. She hated having them fuss over her. Besides the slight bump she could feel forming, Y/N felt fine. Jungkook glanced at Ben nervously. “Should we call an ambulance?”
“Guys, I’m fine. Seriously. I think I’m just dehydrated,” she rambled.
Taehyung shook his head. “We need to be sure.”
Jungkook went off to grab his phone and make the call. Y/N sighed as she still laid on the ground. Taehyung noticed how uncomfortable she looked and helped her up to lean against the stairs. “Santa, can we get her some water?”
Ben nodded as he walked away. Soyoung sat next to them, the worry crossing her face. “Is Tinsel going to be okay?”
“Of course, I am Soyoung. Just felt a little dizzy. Even elves get hurt sometimes,” she reassured the little girl. Soyoung seemed alright with the explanation and sat there in silence.
Soon enough, Jungkook came back with two EMTs in tow, and Taehyung pulled Soyoung back to give them room. They checked her vitals, stating she was a little overheated and dehydrated. They gave her a sports drink to replenish her electrolytes and told her to take it easy.
Taehyung watched from afar with Soyoung, still concerned. Soyoung glanced from her brother to the elf and pulled on his coat sleeve. “TaeTae?”
“Yes, Soyoung?”
“Do you want to know what I asked Santa for?”
Taehyung peered down at her curiously. “What?”
“I asked for you to meet someone pretty and nice,” she whispered.
Taehyung felt his heartache. “Soyoung–”
“I-I know you get lonely sometimes. I just didn’t want to see you sad anymore.”
Taehyung wrapped his sister in a hug. “You’re the sweetest little sister.” He grabbed her hand and walked over to Y/N. He stopped a few steps away and turned to Soyoung. “Wait here for a moment, okay?”
Soyoung bobbed her head up and down as Taehyung stepped forward.
“Miss Tinsel?”
Y/N sat up from the stretcher as her eyes rounded. He was still here. She wrapped her hair around her ear, having removed the elf hat, and smiled. “Uh, hi there. You can just call me Y/N. Tinsel retired for the night.”
They shared a laugh for a moment. “Well then, Y/N. It’s nice to meet you. I’m Kim Taehyung.” He returned the smile, tucking his hands in his pockets. “Some way to end a shift.”
Y/N nodded in agreement. “I’ll say. My life’s filled with never-ending incidents.”
Visibly nervous, Taehyung scratched his nose. “I don’t usually do this, but...uh, you’re probably the cutest elf I’ve ever met. Um…would you like to go out sometime?”
Y/N, taken aback, stared for a moment. She recovered, feeling a bit bashful. Though the pain of her recent breakup still lingered, she gave him a genuine smile.
“As much as I’d love to, I just got out of a breakup...more like today, but I wouldn’t say no to getting drinks, maybe coffee?”
Taehyung grinned. It wasn’t a complete rejection, but something. “Of course.” He pulled out his phone as Y/N typed her number into the contacts. He smiled, placing it back into his pocket. “Until then, I wish you a merry Christmas, Y/N.”
“Merry Christmas to you too, Taehyung.”
