Now my brain finally decides to smash its braincells together and I can properly add onto this ask.
Alrighty so I absolutely think that she wouldn’t be taken down by teenagers… these guys are not normal teenagers. They’ve had to deal with malicious ghost therapists and they have held a great distrust for any councelor of any sort ever since. Diana (unsure in comics but in the Young Justice tv show) is a licensed therapist. She’s extremely good with teens and has helped many supers with everything from depression to traumatic events.
My thoughts on how it would go down:
The Amity kids DO NOT trust Mrs. Lance. She’s from out of town and doesn’t know how things work around here. She might be another ghost or even worse: an undercover GIW agent.
The Casper High students set up a plan. Five students are going to go into Mrs. Lance’s office and discuss with her a range of issues that is in the job description of a real high school councelor. The issues are as follows:
being stressed with schoolwork and requesting extension permission
needing help applying for colleges/scholarships
disability accommodation forms
needing help to prove to their parents that they undiagnosed depression.
yearly check in that’s required by the school (lie to Diana that they forgot to tell her about something and do it a second time)
Each student goes in twice during one school week and goes through an extensive mental health test by Jazz Fenton. When each student was actually helped and had no signs of mental health decline, the students of Casper High deem her safe. They’re still wary since she’s an outsider but they don’t avoid her like the plague anymore.
Diana has been working at Casper High for almost a full semester now. She’s been generally accepted by the students and they’re pleasantly surprised that she does her job and in a timely manner (almost impossible for high school counselors). They start going to her for actual counseling sessions and has helped many students during her stay in Amity Park.
The one thing she can’t figure out: Ghosts. What are they? Why are they here? Where did they come from? Every single time she tries to race to a ghost battle with the supposed “Invis-o-bill” she sees various Amity residents going about their day or taking cover but she never sees any commotion. The residents are hiding from nothing. Any time she asks a student about the ghost activity they always change subject or ignore her. She summed up that they weren’t answering her questions because she’s not from around here but still, she hasn’t made a single student crack and spill a single piece of information. Whenever she tries to talk to the resident ghost experts, the Fentons, their children always answer the door and refuse entry.
The strange thing is that she sees the destruction of these supposed “ghost” attacks. The massive craters and remnants of charred singe marks scattered around town. Something is causing this property damage and she has less than three weeks to figure it how.
Lucky for her, She only had to wait three more days to find out the truth of the town. Unlucky for her, she’ll be changed by the discovery. Literally.
A student by the name of Valerie Gray came to her to help research possible colleges to go to. It went surprisingly well all things considered. Diana expected the girl to be standoffish and defensive. Well she was both of those things but not as much as she thought she would be. She helped Valerie focus her choices down to five potential colleges in Illinois and Wisconsin and even got a “Thank you” as Valerie left her office! The students almost never thank her for anything. It’s always sullen and guarded expressions and wary looks as they exit the door.
Just as the door closed, Diana noticed that Valerie had left her backpack in her office. Just before Diana was about to type in the number to the teacher she had just given Valerie a hall pass to, she paused. There might be some potential in searching through the students backpack. Sure, it was immoral, but she needed to find answers before the end of the semester.
It took her no more than thirty seconds to find the secret compartment in the backpack. A false bottom that when opened held…. A thermos? Diana inspected the container. It’s stainless steel exterior was detailed with bright green designs and felt far too light to be normal stainless steel thermos. What was this thing? Why was it hidden? Diana held the thermos towards her and opened the top. While doing so she could feel her finger give way to a button that was previously unseen. Her past self had no idea the repercussions that this action would cause.
Bright green goo ejected itself from the thermos and directly onto her face. She spluttered and tried to wipe the goop off. In the midst of trying to get the strange substance, bits of goo got stuck in her nails and caught in her hair. She quickly disposed of the slime with paper towels that she kept to send to Batman for study. After washing her face in the teachers bathroom she headed back to her office and didn’t think too heavily about the strange substance. An encounter two days later caused her to rethink her lack of worry on whatever was in Valerie’s thermos.
————————
Ok so I kinda ran out of juice for writing my b but the rest of the premise goes:
-Diana couldn’t see the ghosts because only people exposed to ectoplasm could see ghosts. After she got sprayed with excess ectoplasm from Valerie’s Fentons thermos, she became ectocontaminated and can now see ghosts.
- a ghost battle happens directly inside Casper High. Most likely Skulker. Danny is fighting but is slightly struggling from repeated days of lack of sleep and a new weapon that Skulker found that’s far too OP for its own good.
- Diana jumps into action to protect the kids. Disarming Skulker with ease and proceeding to beat the shit out of Skulker with the OP weapon. The students watch in awe and pride as their counselor, now One Of Them, defeats one of the ghosts that has been haunting them for years.
- Danny soups Skulker. Diana immediately then attends to Danny to check over his injuries and to give medical help. She informs the League to prepare a med bay room just in case. She finds out that Danny has a concussion and has lots of lacerations from the weapon. She patches Danny up and demands explanation.
- Danny spills to her everything about the town and how the cause of everything is his parents portal. He doesn’t say shit about his own identity but he tells her about the reason why ghosts are in Amity and the reason only Amity residents can see them: prolonged exposure of low levels of ectoplasm or extremely short exposure of highly concentrated ectoplasm.
- Diana finishes up her semester at Casper High. Students now regaling to her their ghost troubles and issues now that she’s deemed One Of Them. She becomes slightly liminal. Features becoming slightly elven like and carry’s an uncanny presence wherever she does.
- she reports to the League that no, Amity residents aren’t crazy, but they got it covered. She doesn’t tell them about the ghosts. They can’t see them and letting them know about ghosts would cause a far more negative impact than a positive one.
- She still pops in and helps Danny from time to time. She extends the offer that if he or his sister ever needs a place to stay, her place in Gotham is always open.
DCxDP prompt: Amity Park is weird, and the whole population is assumed insane by the outside world. Maybe it's even Clockwork's intervention that enforces Amity's isolation. In most stories, that's the end of it. Everyone ignores Amity until some world ending disaster forces the world to face mortality head on.
But in reality, the Justice League wouldn't just let the issue lie. Mass insanity? Potential hallucinations? These people obviously need help. And the league is ready to assist. But they can't just storm their way in and call everyone insane. It won't be taken well. They need to insert someone into some of the town's most effected areas and find the source. Covertly.
"Casper High Ravens! We are pleased to introduce you to our newest member of staff, Dinah Lance. From now on, she will be your new student counselor"
just want to say that I can in no way do this prompt justice but oh my god this is truly brilliant and that reveal made my jaw hit the floor. anon your brain has so many folds
