Blocking celebrities isn’t going to stop the government from engaging in war crimes and war profiteering. It won’t change anything. Aim your ire at the government, the politicians, the billionaires who profit from war.
America has terrible healthcare, education, a homeless crisis, but people think blocking Lizzo will do anything to actually help. Aim that anger where it will actually do some good and hold the government accountable for their actions. This “celebrity blockout” is pointless and useless. You think it will do something, but the politicians and governments will just continue to destroy people for their own benefit. Aim at them instead.

The thing about Jayce and Mel is that like. She does not view him as an investment. That is just certifiably false. You have to skip over all her scenes to believe that.
In the beginning she does! She absolutely does! She conceives of their relationship as a business one - where she makes profit off his inventions, and he profits from her business and political acumen, both monetarily and powerwise. And overall, she believes she's fulfilled her half of the bargain.
It's only when he comes back to her after Viktor gets sick that she realizes he believes this is something deeper. And it's notable that she responds to that emotion - she opens up about herself too, comforts him, and expresses real emotionality about it. It's then that we see his ideals start to influence her - especially reawakening in her a desire for nonviolence.
Wanting to do things peacefully is something that's been with her since she was a child. It is what guides her away from Noxus, because her pacifism just does not fit there. It's why she loved Piltover so - they aren't a violent expansionist empire, which is a really low bar, but that's what she's grown up in.
She never finds the violence in Zaun, because she never goes looking for it. This is her fault, and her flaw, let me make that clear. She has some of the most power in the city, and should know about what kind of violence is holding up, and work to resolve it, truly. But she doesn't, because she's focused on her own exploits, and has so insulated herself away from the class struggle that it does not register for her until it grows to violence.
And then, once that violence comes, she maintains that pacifism with an iron grip, more than Jayce himself. It is Jayce who constructs (almost) all the HexTech weapons that are used in the Undercity, in Caitlyn's police squadron. He betrays the oaths that he's made to his partner, where Mel keeps the promise she's made to her's. She is the only politician left to try to tamp down on the worst of Ambessa's instincts, and her removal from Piltover is what marks it's descent into militarism.
She is ultimately a complicated woman, with a bunch of interesting relationships to Piltover and Zaun. I think you can divide Piltover as a city neatly between her, Jayce, and Caitlyn - each of them standing for some of Piltover's best instincts, and some of its worst.
#telespeak#mel medarda#jayce talis#It's why I find Mel discourse so tiring. Like.#This is a show full of complicated characters.#If we are willing to look beyond Victor emptying people and Caitlyn becoming a puppet dictator and Jayce literally killing a child#and see them as full and complicated people who are trying their best with worldviews that are influenced by their circumstances#why is she where we stop. I mean I know why. but still.#I don't even like MelJay. But like. It's there for a reason.#sidebar I find the notion that Jayce of all people should hold her accountable for Zaun just. exhausting.#Jayce is a piltoverian through and through. He loves someone from Zaun yes but that relationship is soaked with casual classism#There is a lot to be said about Mel ignoring Zaun! But he does too#it's something she reflects in him#The biggest critique of her arc I have is that someone in Zaun shoud've taken her to task#(My vote is on Vi just because she should get to confront the head of the faceless machine that's produced every tragedy in her life)#(But any Zaunite would do honestly. Just not heckin. Jayce.)#I do want to make a post about how Jayce Mel and Cait kinda cover all of Piltover's values#Cait as their enforcer arm Jayce as their scientist and Mel as their businesswoman/politician#but that's for another post. really this is two posts squeezed into one#I am just exhausting seeing people who do not care about Mel in her tag. Like. She exists outside of JayVik. the show is not subtle with th#arcane

Also while I'm here slandering Jiang Cheng. FUCK off with the Nie Mingjue would ever treat Wei Wuxian well when he was all for letting the Wens die just for their surname and has no morals despite screaming about them to Jin Guangyao. And WHY he's a brainless meat walker zombie that is too stupid to tell people apart.
And also much as I love Lan Xichen and don't drink the hate him kool-aid he's also a ignorant fool who doesn't bother with anything aside from facades and being so passive it becomes cruelty despite all his well meaning intentions that are easily manipulated due to him choosing to be seen as unaffected by things unlike his brother who was lead astray by emotions~ unlike Lan Xichen (who is the biggest instigator of burying his head in the sand if I can't see it it doesn't exist)

I’m American and I still do not understand America’s obsession with focusing so much on celebrity political endorsements. I feel like the focus is in the wrong place, it should be on the politicians and actual policies.

NEVER FORGET! These men answered the call when their government told them it was a righteous war and they did what was expected of them but were unfortunately caught and imprisoned still believing their country were behind them but their government wasn’t and times even disavowed them and left them to their fate. Only Civilian pressure on Lawmakers has put pressure on enough to find some but there are still others out there who are depending on you to pressure your lawmakers to find them all. Remember Donald Trump has already said he doesn’t like,Doesn’t care about the ones who get caught.Remember Sen John Mcain in his own party! Don’t let this process get politicized or all hope is lost. Let’s bring our hero’s home and honor their sacrifice.

This country is fucked. The state of this country feels devastating. Even if Trump hadn’t won, the outcome would still be heartbreaking. It’s a lose-lose situation, and we ended up with the most fucked of the two. I’m angry. I hold the Democratic Party accountable for not pushing harder. This is the result of a weak campaign and trying to align with figures like Liz Cheney, a literal war monger. It’s what happens when they shift toward conservative ideals, adopting right-leaning positions on immigration and the border. And it’s what happens when they fail to make clear their commitment to Palestinian freedom and the fight against genocide. I can’t blame Palestinian or other Arab Americans who didn’t vote; the Democratic Party did little to support the issues that matter most to them. They’ve been let down by an administration that has shown they do not care about the atrocities happening.
There is so much frustration over third-party voting and non-voters, but, we need to acknowledge that the Democratic Party must urgently get their shit together. Also more glaringly, acknowledge that the two party system itself is deeply flawed.
Regardless, I think we all need to have compassion for one another. That’s going to be so hard to come by these days. We need to be lifting each other up instead of tearing each other down. Lead with compassion and never settle for what this shit government has to offer. If this doesn’t radicalize you, then wake the hell up.

Oh. Sad
#the rhetoric and blame shifting is already bothering me btw#like ppl saying this has nothing to do with her policies like okay#the assumption everyone has that Green Party would automatically be democratic votes if they weren’t green is unreal#I have 0 opinion accelerationists tbh bc idek what the hell the intricacies of that are#the demographics#hate to say it but latinoes really did surprise me like wow guys. crazy work#the fl 60% amendment rule is insaaane#and tbh back to the Green Party thing the idea that they’re guaranteed democrats if under other circumstances is crazy#not just bc those numbers so far wouldn’t have gotten her any state#but bc the logic doesn’t hold up bc by that logic u should still be pissed at catering to right wing policies and ideals#her stance on immigration militarism fracking etc. bc she’s catering to ppl who would STILL be right wing#like the ppl who agree with her on these stances would rather see it on a white man#hate to say it but Girlboss feminism doesn’t work when you’re black#and everyone’s tip toeing around it but yes. as a black women you DO have to go harder and set more stances that align with ur voter base#bc for everyone who’ll show up for you being u in a country like this there’s twice the ppl who won’t just bc ur u#and ppl keep tryna say this isn’t about race like it kind of was. in the sense that everyone forgot that when ur black u do have to work#harder for half the credit - which is unfortunate and frustrating that bw don’t get to be vile and get rewarded but that’s what u account#for when running. like u can’t appeal to right wingers and their ideals bc their ideals and biases mean it was never gonna be you#uhm anyways this is like. are we choosing overt or covert racism for the next 4 years and apparently overt#and idk maybe I’m naive I thought this was gonna be an eye opener#that ppl would go back review the campaign see what went wrong have real convos on what we care about as a collective#but so far ppl are saying ppl who thought politicians should earn their vote need to be on the front lines and saying leftist ideals that#fell apart the second they tokenized one of us as the possible face of the imperial core#ig It’s like. are we bracing ourselves to set back until the next panic or are we finally gonna be motivated to haul ass#yknow hopefully in the end some of y’all see what we’ve been going through the entire time#also now that we can’t say at least they’re not trump anymore are we gonna break down Harris and bidens own transphobia and Zionism#or are they useless to discuss now after y’all propped them up as ur saviors for the last few months

I think it's kinda laughable that people will refuse to participate in politics at any level and claim it's because they're "critical of politicians" or whatever but then the moment someone holds celebrities to any sort of standard and asks people to be critical about celebs instead of mindlessly idolizing them suddenly it's an issue
You're still worshiping a human who doesn't know u exist bestie the point is to be critical of anyone with large platforms and do the work to make your own informed decisions but it's so funny that critical thinking is only bad to y'all when it's about a celebrity you like

there was a group of women shouting „kamala kamala you can’t hide we won’t vote for genocide“ at a recent rally of hers and she snapped at them like „you know what if you want Donald trump to win just say so“ ??? no people just want you to step the fuck up and hold you accountable for your past inactions that caused over 16.000 kids to die (all the while she was already in office as vice president for the past four years) before they can grant you their votes with a clean conscience and not just that endless cycle of „the lesser of two evils“ like sure you’ve got to make a choice and sure I agree she is the better one but you can’t just girlboss your way out of imperialism and genocide ugh that reaction of hers was just nauseating and condescending there’s this quote by James Baldwin who said „I can’t believe what you say because I see what you do“ and that’s the root of the problem some liberals really be getting so pressed when you criticize their precious „femininominon“ dude she ain’t anything but that but lib clowns don’t understand that the act of equal participation of a woman in exploitation, colonialism and domination is not actually feminism - it’s still exploitation, colonialism and domination at the end of the day 🤡

Following a Chris Brown fan account Lewis? Really? 😭
Mmm I’ve seen spinz boost his work before so I’m not shocked, but still disappointed
Reminder folks, this is the Chris Brown who beats women. It doesn’t matter if you like his music, because he beats women. Listen to something else. He’s living proof the fear-mongering about cancel culture is utter bullshit.

just got blocked over this controversial opinion:
if you have to choose between the literal worst people on earth and pretty bad people, maybe you have to choose the bad people. maybe praxis can come after. maybe damage reduction is better than saying "i wont participate in this system" and getting mad at the government. maybe the bad people wont fuck everyone over as bad as the literal worst people on earth and maybe theyll give you slightly more space to perform praxis than the actual worst people on earth would.

Israel math really isn't mathing. If they know Hamas has hostages, why are they bombing Gaza relentlessly? Why have they promised in front of the entire world that they will carpet bomb Gaza and turn it to rubble? Don't you want your hostages safe? Or do you know where they are but you're not saving them on purpose so you can continue your genocide?

and the saddest thing is that this is happening repeatedly. the IDF constantly attacks and murders palestinian citizens, and whenever they get caught or questioned, they either call it a mistake, throw hamas in as a scapegoat, or completely ignore the media backlash without even trying to make an excuse. where is the humanity? where is the ACCOUNTABILITY?
