As the authorities have declared the Shri Hemkund Sahib Yatra Opening Date 2022 of the portals (doors) i.e. 22nd May, the pilgrims have started planning their journey to this significant pilgrimage site. Hemkund Sahib (also spelt as Hemkunt Sahib) is one of the major Sikh Gurdwaras. It is located in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. Being situated in the snow-covered mountains, the Gurudwara is open for Darshans by pilgrims only 5 months a year and for the rest of the time, the way to reach Gurdwara Sahib is usually covered with heavy snow.
Like every year, this year also on the occasion of Baisakhi, the corps of the Indian Army under the auspices of Gurdwara Shri Hemkunt Sahib Management Trust reached Gurdwara Govind Ghat and enthusiastically celebrated the festival of Baisakhi. After this, the date of the visit to Hemkunt Sahib was announced this year. So, the journey to Hemkunt Sahib will start on 22nd May. According to the trust, from the constant inquiries of the passengers, it is estimated that this year the journey will be full.
Devotees from far and wide can reach Govind Ghat by the ride. But, this should also be kept in mind that the road ahead of around 3 kilometers has to be crossed on foot. This is so because the road is covered with heavy snow which will, like every year, be cut by Indian Army personnel.
According to an article, the servants (Sewadars) of Gurudwara Shri Hemkunt Sahib Management Trust are also accompanying the army. The manager of Govind Ghat Gurdwara Seva Singh congratulated the army personnel who came for this work and thanked them. District Officer Himanshu Khurana has instructed all the departments to make necessary arrangements for this yatra and the facilities of the passengers and has assured that the arrangements will be smooth till about 10 days before the yatra.
