Compare Oppo Find X2 and Oppo Find X
It has been 2 years since the first Oppo Find X version appeared, Oppo X2 has just been launched in early 2020 with many improvements. So, what did Oppo upgrade for Find X2? Is Find X2 worth the money to buy or upgrade compared to its predecessor Find X? Let's find out with @fixlaptop565
youtube
Design of Oppo Find X2 and Oppo Find X
By the time Find X was released, it received a storm of praise for its trendy design. With a curved screen and a pop-up camera (including front and back cameras in the same cluster) has caused a stir. With this design, Find X possesses a screen without any defects as well as a smooth back without arms.
With this design and the same color on the back has made many people unhappy. However, the sliding camera mechanism is the critical point of the device. The camera slid slowly and made a loud noise. And yet, when there is dirt attached to the camera is also very difficult to clean and many people are also skeptical about the durability of the slider camera mechanism.
Oppo has decided to remove the pop-up camera technology and return to the simple design as other smartphones. Design Oppo Find X2 uses a mole screen design with a mole section on the left.
The back of the Find X2 is no longer as smooth as its predecessor, which has been placed on the camera. With this design, Oppo Find X2 has also received many compliments and favorites for its minimalist, not too cumbersome and colorful.
Oppo Find X2 and Oppo Find X displays
Compared to OPPO Find X, OPPO Find X2 is equipped with a trendy display and can be said to be the leading trend.
Find X2 is equipped with OLED screen resolution up to 3K (3,168 x 1,440 pixels). Although at the time of launch (2018), Find X's Full HD + resolution was very good, but it was still not good enough compared to the screens of Sony flagships when equipped with a resolution of up to 2K. So the default 3K screen resolution on Find X2 is a worthwhile upgrade over its predecessor.
Besides, Find X2 also equipped with a scan frequency up to 120Hz. Even, Oppo X2 has the ability to set the scan frequency to 120Hz with 3K resolution from there to bring a great experience for users.
Camera Oppo Find X2 and Oppo Find X
If compared with Find X, Find X2 also has an additional camera on the back. With OPPO Find X2 you can take pictures at distances as close as 4 cm (macro) or very far (20x digital zoom). Equipping macro or super zoom features is also a variable for Find X2 camera equations to keep up with current camera trends.
If Find X has a weakness that is taking photos in ultra-wide-angle camera, then Find X2 has overcome this error of its predecessor. X2's ultra wide-angle camera produces an extremely good image quality and there is no ankle curling.
Batteries and chargers Find X2 and Oppo Find X
Oppo Find X2 has been upgraded its SuperVOOC charging technology with the 2nd generation. With this upgrade and the included 65W charger, I'm sure Oppo Find X2 has the fastest charging capability at the moment.
Performance Find X2 and Oppo Find X
At present, if you upgrade Oppo X to Android 10 and ColorOS 7, you will still have a good experience but it will not be as smooth as your Oppo Find X2.
Oppo Find X2 owns a Snapdragon 865 chip which is much better performance than Snapdragon 845. Even the RAM and ROM of Find X2 is upgraded much higher than its brother, which is 12GB and 256GB.
What do you think about Oppo Find X2? Is it worth the smartphone? Please comment below.

Motorola
The new Moto Razr.
The box is pretty wild looking.
When open, you get a 6.2-inch foldable display.
When closed, you get a smaller 2.7-inch display for notifications and music control.
The display inside is big.
In this live image from Verizon, you can see a bit of a ripple in the display.
The display in real life. Still a bit ripple-y.
Let's talk about the front display. Here it's showing the time and notifications.
Here is selfie mode, which actually uses the main camera, because it's a flip phone.
The front display in music mode.
Google Assistant on the front display.
The inside. You can see the navigation bar is huge, since it needs to be a rectangle and avoid the bottom curve in the display. Verizon
The bottom has a USB-C port and a speaker grill.
The folded mode is going to be thick, but compact.
When open, the non-chin part of the phone is 6.9mm thick.
All the in-box accessories.
It's Moto Razr day today. The phone stopped by the FCC earlier in the day, and after sending out an event invite for November 13, Motorola just barely made it in time, with an official announcement at 11pm ET. The rumors were true: the Moto Razr is a reboot of one of the most iconic flip phones of all time, updated for 2019. Instead of a tiny screen and a physical keypad on the inside, you get a giant folding OLED display that puts the new Moto Razr in the same category as other futuristic foldables like the Samsung Galaxy Fold and Huawei Mate X. The price is also in the same stratosphere as those super-expensive devices: the new Razr is $1,500. It's also a Verizon exclusive in the US. The hinge design of the Moto Razr is probably the most interesting thing about it. The best Samsung can currently do in the foldables space is the Galaxy Fold, which, thanks to folding the display nearly completely flat, develops a permanent crease in the display after the first fold. Motorola's display doesn't fold completely flat, though—there is a large void space around the display hinge, so when the phone folds in half, the display has room to move around. Since it's not being sandwiched between two solid plates, the display collapses into a gentle curve instead of a hard crease. Imagine bending a piece of paper in half just by pinching the top and bottom together versus pressing the fold into a crease. Motorola described how a hinge like this could work in a 2018 patent. Instead of having the hinge mechanism behind the display, like on the Galaxy Fold, Motorola has the hinge on the left and right side of the display, giving the display room to sink into the phone body and bend into a gentle curve. For support Motorola says the hinge "includes moveable support plates that rigidly support the display when the phone is open, but collapse out of the way when the phone is closed." These two design elements allow the phone to have a "zero gap" hinge while also not smashing the display into a crease. Since the display only ever forms a loop, rather than a crease, it never gains a distracting, light-distorting crease down the middle the way the Galaxy Fold does. This design should be easier on the display as well, since it causes less stress to the pixels around the bendy part. We've already seen (pre-release) Galaxy Fold displays die along the display crease, thanks to all the stress. A 2018 Motorola patent showing the display inside a folded phone. Notice how the display is a big loop, and not a hard crease. There's room for the display inside the phone because the hinge mechanism (502 and 506) lives on the left and right side of the display, rather than behind it. Motorola's official shot of the closed display. It's a loop! As it opens, the display supports swing into place. All flattened out. You can see how that translates to a real design here. The hinge mechanism is next to—not behind—the display, so it sticks out from the phone body a bit. The back of the phone also looks very simple, since it's an empty shell holding the display. The display of the new Razr also looks pretty special. The top and bottom edges of the 6.2-inch, 2142x876 display curve into an arch, which is a perfect throwback to the interior of the old Razr design. The notch at the top houses not just the camera but the earpiece, too. The FCC basically posted a full teardown of the device, and seeing the display outside of the Razr body is really something. Where did Motorola source a display like this for its foldable smartphone? Samsung is the leader in foldable displays, but after having spent six years and $130 million dollars to develop the technology, Samsung seems to want to keep the technology to itself. Early release info pegged China's up-and-coming OLED display manufacturer BOE as the supplier, which also supplies the displays for the Huawei Mate X. Motorola also might be dual-sourcing the displays from TCL, the same company that makes zombie phones branded as "Palm" and "Blackberry." Just like the old-school Razr, there's also a secondary display on the front: a 2.7-inch 800x600 panel. Also just like the old Razr, it seems this is primarily for checking notifications. You can see your incoming messages, control music, take selfies, and even use the Google Assistant, all without opening the phone. The UI for this seems totally new. Instead of showing something like a tiny Android notification panel, you get a full screen UI for each action, and apparently you can swipe between them. It's unclear if this is a new Android feature, or a Motorola Razr feature. The Moto Razr was popular as a fashion phone, thanks to the ultra-thin profile and good looks. It's hard to tell just from looking at pictures, but is that same appeal still present in this device? The pictures and dimensions make it clear this is a super-sized version of the original Razr. The most popular model of the old Razr, the V3, measured 98mm x 53mm and 13.9mm thick. The new Razr is listed at 172mm × 72mm × 14mm. So the new Razr's namesake thinness is near-identical to the old Razr, but a lot wider and taller. These numbers reduce both devices to simplified rectangles based on their widest sections, but in terms of overall volume, the new Razr is 138% bigger—yes, over double the volume—of the old Razr. Our expectations for "thin" have definitely changed since 2004, too. iPhone thinness peaked with the iPhone 6, at 6.9mm, and the thinnest Android phone ever is the Vivo X5 Max, which slimmed down to a ridiculous 4.75mm (and it still had a headphone jack!). That 14mm thickness on the new Razr is ever-present thanks to the chin at the bottom, and since the Razr unfolds, that puts each unfolded section of the phone at around 7mm. A standard smartphone is around 7.8mm thick nowadays, so the Razr's thinness is nothing special. When open, it's about the thickness of a smartphone. When closed, it's about the thickness of two smartphones stacked on top of each other. The FCC's Moto Razr photos. Even on third-party images, this phone has no display crease. Be sure to zoom in! Another photo of the pristine display. A photo of the back. The FCC has a full teardown of this device already! Here our lovely government is just popping the shells off. Here's the display out in the open. It's a pretty crazy design, with arched top and bottom edges plus a notch at the top. The motherboard! Here you can make out the Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 SoC at the heart of the device. The other side of the motherboard is nearly blank. Here's one of the two batteries in the device, a scant 1245mAh. As for the width and height, I don't think you can call the Razr a compact phone anymore, either. Width is what makes a smartphone feel small in your hands, but at 72mm wide, the Razr is firmly a "medium" size smartphone, sitting between the width of a Galaxy S10 (70mm) and S10+ (74mm). The width also works against the phone's positioning as an update to the old Razr: the proportions compared to the old phone are all wrong, and this "Razr" is a shorter, wider distortion of the original. At 172mm tall while open, the Razr is the tallest phone on the market, dwarfing even monster devices like the Galaxy Note 10+ and OnePlus 7T Pro (both ~162mm). So what are you looking for from a foldable smartphone? The standard answer with devices like the Galaxy Fold and Huawei Mate X has been "a phone that opens up into a tablet," but that clearly isn't the goal of the Moto Razr. This also isn't a return to some kind of compact form factor, given that the device is more than twice the size of the old Razr. The new Razr is more like "a smartphone that folds in half." The standard smartphone design puts a tall, thin rectangle in your pocket; Motorola is arguing it's better to pocket a thicker square shape instead. As far as running Android on this device goes, the display's arched top and bottom edges and a notch at the top mean there is a lot of unusable space for apps. Android apps need to be presented with a rectangle by default, so those arches at the top and bottom need to be squared off by the system software. There also needs to be room for the navigation buttons and status icons, which also need to be in a straight line. The result is a lot of space at the top and bottom of the phone that is dedicated to system-level Android UI. The new Razr only runs Android 9, by the way, not the newer Android 10. As for the specs, the Razr has a mid-range—not flagship—SoC: the Snapdragon 710. This features eight Kryo 360 CPU cores, with two high-performance cores running at 2.2Ghz, and six lower-power cores running at 1.7GHz. This is a 10nm SoC that's over a year old now, putting it a generation behind the 7nm flagship SoC, the Snapdragon 855. It seems like we're now making budgetary compromises in a $1,500 smartphone. The Galaxy Fold has a Snapdragon 855, but that costs $2,000. The base model has 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The battery is split between the top and bottom sections, with the two parts combining for 2510mAh of power. Tech reviewers have spent the past few weeks dogging Google for the tiny 2,800mAh battery in the Pixel 4, and to see a new smartphone announced with an even bigger display and a smaller battery than the maligned Pixel 4 is a cause for concern. Retro Razr mode. Finally, if the retro hardware design isn't enough for you, how about a retro software mode? The Verge detailed a fun "Retro Razr" mode that emulates a T9 keypad at the bottom of the display and puts the old-school Razr dumbphone UI up top. The old UI actually works. You navigate with the virtual D-Pad, and it can be used as a home-screen launcher of sorts, allowing you to do things like launch the modern Android messaging app when you tap "enter" on the old-school messaging icon. Worldwide, the new Razr will be available in "markets across Europe, Latin America, Asia and Australia." In the US, the new Razr is exclusive to Verizon and launches January 9, 2020, with pre orders starting December 26. Yes the day after Christmas. Apologies to Santa Claus.

IPHONE 11 REVIEW The Telephone Many People Can Purchase
This really is only one of the simplest reviews I have ever had to publish: that the i-phone 1 1 is your mobile nearly all those who're updating to a brand new i-phone in 2013 should secure. It's a superb mobile, using a few of their best cameras I have ever seen on battery life that is terrific along with a smartphone. The 1-1 starts at $699, although apple decreased the cost from 50 bucks: the XR begun at $749.None of the implies that the i-phone 1 1 is the ideal mobile or it has most the most useful specs and features you are able to get. It generally does not. Nonetheless, at which it sounds, it's amazing, and it is totally fine. If you would like to survive the bleeding edge of technology, you could spend $300 longer and find an i-phone 1 1 Guru, I reviewed this week, or just even consider one of many highend Android options out there. But the majority of people won't have to overthink it get an 1-1. You're going to be very happy.
Here is the reason why:
Exemplary camera
Terrific battery lifetime
Lower cost
I-OS 1 3 is buggy
Only one rather large size
Move out from this for this 5W charger
The backyard is amazing, however the walls rise higher:
The i-phone 1 1 is an S upgrade to a year's remarkably popular i-phone XR. By front, it appears the same. It gets an identical designthe exact same 6.1-inch 720p LCD with elaborate curved corners, exactly the exact same giant bezels, and also the exact identical aluminum frame. The structure remains a, plus it is absolutely not tiny. This item will really come to feel huge, if you are trying to upgrade from an SE.
New Iphone 1 1 Guru and Pro-max review: how that the battery life is actual:
When you were holding off up grades and are not knowledgeable about this i-phone XR, then following is a quick catchup: that the i-phone XR has been the lower-cost version in Apple's 2018 lineup of I phones, swapping within a LCD screen for its OLED from the i-phone XS. And the battery lifetime was also stellar, Apple did not discriminate somewhere else although it had one camera but, seriously. It had been the i-phone for people, despite having the specs, and it became the bestselling version of Apple. That is probably why this season's XR upgrade is merely known as the"i-phone 1 1."There is a lot of other things we'll reach, however that is exactly what you need to understand. Let us focus on batterylife.
Apple states that the i-phone 1 1 can endure for a hour or so more on its own battery life in relation to the i-phone XR, which got enormous battery lifetime. However, the battery life amounts Apple publishes are evaluations of action and audio play back onto the loop. That is anybody utilizes a telephone, also Apple's claims of battery life on the phone are centered on those evaluations. The business conducts against a version of their phone that balances for its chip, chip set, display, along with also OS power developments and the battery capacity that is and carries a data set of i-phone usage.
Apple's brand new I-phone finally sacrifices Thin-ness for battery lifetime:
It is smart, but there isn't any means for reviewers to replicate and affirm that evaluation. However, in our evaluations, the i-phone lasted at one time and then a few. You'd need to take to, although it's likely you may can kill this battery less than a time. The battery life is very good, exactly enjoy the battery life of the i-phone XR has been fantastic.
Even the 1 1 is on level or better, whilst the models did however, it did not get too big of a hop in battery lifetime:
What is less amazing is that the simple fact that Apple remains putting its early 5W charger at the package, though the i-phone 1 1 Guru comes with an 18W USB C speedy charger. If Apple isn't likely to upgrade the whole lineup to a quick charger, then it should only do the environment a favor and quit setting the 5W charger at the box altogether; however yet there are literally countless at the Earth, and chances are, that you need multiple at a drawer . The 1 1 is just really a massive advancement, plus it creates phones such as the X and also i-phone 7 look awful, although I wasn't just really a fan in XR along with the XS.
Apple is enjoying Catchup using all the I-phone 1-1 camera:
The Smart HDR system of apple continues to be improved, and there exists a Night manner. These are features and all of exactly the cameras whilst the 1-1 Guru, with no telephoto, and also the answers are equally as excellent. These image sliders are typical shot into show detail from the photos -- you will find several slight alterations to find the sliders to match. A camera contrast that is deeper can be checked out by you inside our Guru review too well.I recently started using that the i-phone 1 1 Pro review having a simple shot at bright sunshine, therefore let us start this review with a torture test: here is the i-phone 1 1 and Pixel 3 at nighttime manners and zoomed in (despite the fact that has a contact lens). Whilst the 1 1 holds its own, Even the XR would fail in shooting this photo. Here is yet another photo the XR would don't catch well. The 1-1 catches the light that is ideal and detail compared to the Pixel. And the Pixel appears by making matters smarter than truth, that happened , unnatural.I recently started using that the i-phone 1 1 Pro review having a simple shot at bright sunshine, therefore let us start this review with a torture test: here is the i-phone 1 1 and Pixel 3 at nighttime manners and zoomed in (despite the fact that has a contact lens). Whilst the 1 1 holds its own, Even the XR would fail in shooting this photo.
Here is yet another photo the XR would don't catch well. The 1-1 catches the light that is ideal and detail compared to the Pixel. And the Pixel appears by making matters smarter than truth, that happened , unnatural. The i-phone whiffed on the glasses of Dieter , nevertheless the XR is nice. I asked Apple about any of this, and also the answer had been not surprise. I had been told that the team spent plenty of time. We are going to need to see whether this improves overtime. Therefore while the camera program of Apple makes the cameras feel identical, I advise copying when potential and simply using the camera. You are going to find yourself a photo. Alternatively, think about this Ultrawide as much of an artistic option, some thing which may provide you another or maybe even more interesting appearance, however, perhaps maybe not necessarily a"better" photo.
THE I-phone 1 1'S Videocamera IS FAR AHEAD OF THE COMPETITION:
I was extremely impressed with all the i-phone 1 1's movie skills. All 3 cameras usually takes 4K60 of course it is possible to switch between the lenses should you capture in less than 60 frames each minute. The Android mobiles which take on Apple have been out of Samsung. However, Apple's still and the gap gets wider. As stated we spent a whole lot of time analyzing video and photo from our i-phone 1 1 Professional review, adding a deep dip to video, therefore if you would like more, check out it. However, I feel the 1-1 cameras really are so good they're worth a upgrade from the XR.

On the plus side, at 58, the Apple phone achieved the top score for Background attributes in our recording testing protocol, providing overall good background rendering for a smartphone. It is once more among the best for almost all sub-attributes, but lags a little behind for Spatial, where memo wideness and life video directivity leave some room for improvement. The Apple iPhone XS Max performed well for Recording, achieving a score of 69. It’s also one of the best for playback volume, although other high-end devices also scored well. It is the best-scoring device for Spatial, offering very good wideness and localizability moreover, its Dynamics score is excellent as well, and the second-highest we have seen so far, with the device delivering good performance across a range of modern music genres. The XS Max also does very well for Timbre and again is beaten only by the Mate 20 X for this attribute. Best Long Battery Life Phones 2022, Long Battery Life Phones
Best Long Battery Life Phones 2022, Long Battery Life Phones, Best Battery Life Smartphones, Phones
Tumblr media
Fast charging is becoming faster and more widely available, even on more affordable smartphones. Still, being able to top up a phone in less than an hour, or even as fast as half an hour, can completely change your charging habits, with real battery autonomy a major priority. Remains - No VOOC can help you when there are no electrical outlets around.
So, on this page, you'll find the phones that make battery life a priority and score at the top of our battery test chart.
1. Xiaomi Poco F3 - Best Long Battery Life Phone
Tumblr media
GOOD
114h Endurance rating (23:40h calls, 15:58h web, 19:02h video)
4,520mAh battery, 33W charging
Cheap, yet the flagship-grade phone
120Hz OLED screen, HDR10+
Snapdragon 888 chip
Versatile camera setup
IP53-rated
BAD
No microSD slot, no 3.5mm jack
Mediocre ultrawide camera quality
The most recent Poco F3 replaces our previous top pick for battery life champ - Poco F2 Pro. In terms of battery life, it is one of the most powerful smartphones currently available and the most reliable performer.
The threequel to the legendary Pocophone has everything a flagship on a budget should pack - a stunning HDR10+ OLED screen, 120Hz on it, the most current Snapdragon 888 5G chipset, and plenty of cameras.
The Poco F3 packs a massive 4,520mAh battery which proved to be quite reliable - providing great gaming and/or multimedia experience on a single charge. And then you can top that battery up well enough fast with the supplied 33W charger.
Some phones have scored better, that's for sure, but none of them can match the Poco F3 for its all-around package and battery life, especially considering the powerful Snapdragon 888 chipset.
2. Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro - Best Long Battery Life Phone
Tumblr media
GOOD
118h Endurance rating (28:45h calls, 14:13h web, 17:44h video)
Great 120Hz AMOLED screen, HDR10
Snapdragon 732G chipset is snappy and efficient
Good camera quality overall
Dedicated microSD slot, 3.5mm jack, NFC
IP53-rated, dual Gorilla Glass 5
BAD
No reverse charging
No Night Mode on ultrawide, low-light quality is mediocre
A higher grade chipset would have been more exciting
Next on our list is the Redmi Note 10 Pro. This is a mid-ranger with excellent battery autonomy and fast enough charging. It impresses with a high-grade 120Hz AMOLED screen and 108MP primary camera with enjoyable pictures and videos.
Redmi Note 10 Pro is also very attractive to look at. It has two Gorilla Glass 5 panels and is IP53-rated. It packs all kinds of connectivity options including NFC. The Snapdragon 732G isn't as exciting as some of the faster SoCs within other competitors, but it certainly gets the job done and is good enough for its price.
Redmi Note 10 Pro is available under different names in different markets. You can also get it in India as Redmi Note 10 Pro Max.
3. Realme 8 - Best Long Battery Life Phone
Tumblr media
GOOD
127h Endurance rating (36:10h calls, 17:41h web, 17:12h video)
Bright Super AMOLED HDR10 screen
Solid performance on a budget
3.5mm jack, microSD, NFC, FM radio
30W fast charging
BAD
Over the top design
The camera quality is subpar
No stereo speakers
The Realme 8 impressed us with its long battery life and fast charging. It also packs a very nice Super AMOLED screen and a capable Helio G95 chip, which does well for games. It offers speedy charging, NFC, a 3.5mm jack, a dedicated MicroSD slot, and even FM radio.
Its camera setup can pack four shooters, but the photo quality for main and ultrawide shooters was indifferent. Videos turned out good, however, selfies too.
The Realme 8 isn't the best phone, but it's cheap, it passed our battery life test, and it offers more than enough for its price.
4. Samsung Galaxy A12 - Best Long Battery Life Phone
Tumblr media
GOOD
123h Endurance rating (31:34h calls, 16:18h web, 15:19h video)
Good quad-camera on the cheap
NFC, microSD, 3.5mm jack, FM radio
Cheap
BAD
Low-res screen
Poor processor performance
Sluggish charging
If battery life comes first, the €150 Samsung Galaxy A12 is a very affordable smartphone. It has a large screen with a small notch which is ideal for watching videos. The quad camera at the back is also good.
Does not affect the phone performance; Its screen is just 720p and with washed-out colors. However, the Android 11 OS and One UI are still quite fast.
So, the Galaxy A12 is for those of you who are on a limited budget and prioritize battery life above everything else. If it isn't, we should probably look elsewhere.
5. Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 - Best Long Battery Life Phone
Tumblr media
GOOD
110h Endurance rating (41:21h calls, 13:55h web, 20:13h video)
33W charging
Bright Full HD Super AMOLED screen
Good quad-camera
IP53-rated, microSD, 3.5mm jack, FM radio
Stereo speakers
BAD
No NFC
Not the fastest SoC around
€170 Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 is an attractive budget offer. It has a 6.43" 1080p OLED screen and the curve rests on a decent Snapdragon 678 chipset on the back. The rear camera delivers good regular and ultrawide photos, with videos coming out just fine.
But the reason we included this Redmi Note 10 Lite is its excellent battery life and 33W fast charging. You can watch videos for 20 hours and then talk for some or even 41 hours uninterrupted. The Redmi Note 10 apart from its balanced feature set offers great battery autonomy and we recommend it. Also, its price is quite reasonable.

iPhone XR Review
Apple gave everyone a glimpse at the future of the iPhone with last year's iPhone X, positioning it at the top of its lineup. With a “notch” and Face ID, the iPhone X was the iPhone of the future, and it came with a price tag that required you to pay EMIs well into the future.
The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus were meant to be the more accessible offerings, continuing Apple's “business as usual” model of delivering solid, incremental updates at prices that were only marginally higher than their predecessors.
With 2018, however, it seems the future is here, as Apple has gone all-in with the iPhone X (Review) design language across the entire lineup. For the second year in a row, we get not two but three new iPhone models, but this time, they all look pretty much the same — like the iPhone X, but at different sizes.
Physically, the iPhone XR₹ 47,900 sits between the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max. It's priced in iPhone 8 Plus territory, which means Apple has eliminated the iPhone 8 (Review) price band altogether. This makes this year's most affordable new iPhone nearly Rs. 13,000 more expensive than last year's point of entry, which seems to be in line with Apple's push to increase prices across all its product categories.
It's not all doom and gloom though, as the iPhone XR is available in a variety of colours, to make you forget the hole that buying one is likely to leave in your pocket. While the “most affordable” new iPhone of the year offers more colour options than its more expensive brethren, Apple has removed certain features from the iPhone XR in a bid to keep its cost low.
Does this make the iPhone XR a compromised device? That's what we aim to find out in our review.
iPhone XR design and display
The last time Apple brought colours to the iPhone lineup in any sort of meaningful way was with the poorly received iPhone 5c. Launched alongside the iPhone 5s, the iPhone 5c (Review) — just like the iPhone XR — was the most affordable new iPhone on offer. However, its price tag wasn't as low as everyone expected hoped it would be), and the fact that it shipped with older technology obviously didn't help.
Apple has managed to avoid the same trap with the iPhone XR by making sure it ticks the same boxes as its two more expensive siblings, at least as far as the most important specifications are concerned. All three phones are powered by the same SoC, have the same primary rear camera, and come with other modern technologies including Face ID (the iPhone 5c famously missed out on Touch ID, introduced with the iPhone 5s).
That's not to say the iPhone XR is just like the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max₹ 99,265 in every respect. Its frame is made out of “aerospace-grade aluminium” compared to steel on the more expensive iPhone models, though it feels nearly as premium.
Both the front and the back of the iPhone XR are all glass, though Apple notes that only the front packs “the most durable glass ever in a smartphone”, so the back has to make do with something less expensive, like the second-most durable glass ever in a smartphone, perhaps. Both the fronts and the backs of the iPhone XS are iPhone XS Max have the aforementioned “most durable glass ever”. The iPhone XR is IP67 rated, just like the iPhone X, while the other two 2018 iPhone models are IP68 rated.
Physically, the iPhone XR sits between the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max, and while we believe the iPhone XS form factor is ideal for most people, the iPhone XR represents a possible middle ground for those looking to experiment with a bigger iPhone without stepping up all the way to the iPhone XS Max, which can be rather too much to handle.
The iPhone XR is wider than some of today's other popular large-screen Android smartphones and at 194g, it's certainly one of the heavier ones as well. It is also noticeably thicker than the two more premium iPhone models of 2018, and the bezels around its display are a little more pronounced than those of the iPhone XS, though most users won't be be bothered by the latter.
Where you will have to settle for last year's technology is the display itself — and it's not even display technology from last year's most expensive iPhone, as the iPhone XR uses the same LCD tech as the iPhone 8.
This means you miss out on the richer blacks that the OLED displays on the iPhone X, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max deliver. The LCD panel offers a lower contrast ratio and lacks HDR as well as Dolby Vision. That in itself isn't a huge deal, but the relatively low resolution (828x1792 pixels at 326ppi) also means that text doesn't look as sharp as it does on some other iPhone models — and, indeed, other smartphones out there. Unless you are making the move from an iPhone 8 or a really inexpensive smartphone, you will almost certainly notice that the quality is, at best, just about good enough.
“Just about good enough” is, of course, not what you expect when you pay north of Rs. 75,000 for a smartphone, especially when some phones that cost 10 percent of that amount sport higher-resolution displays. Granted, the panel on the iPhone XR is up there with the best LCD panels in other respects, including viewing angles and colour accuracy, but that doesn't take away from its relatively low resolution.
The other way in which Apple has cut costs is by eliminating 3D Touch. Some people probably won't even notice it's missing given that it wasn't always easy to discover its presence in older iPhone models to begin with. Some popular 3D Touch features such as the keyboard's trackpad mode and the ability to preview notifications have been implemented without 3D Touch, for those who did come to love those little touches.
The iPhone XR is available in yellow, white, coral, black, blue, and (Product) Red, which is a welcome change compared to the usual options available from Apple and other manufacturers. While we really appreciated the understated finish of our black review unit, we also quite liked the yellow and blue options in the brief time we spent with them at the global launch event.
iPhone XR performance, software, and battery life
The iPhone XR is powered by the same Apple A12 Bionic chip inside the iPhone XS duo, so it's no surprise that its performance is pretty similar. It handled everything that we threw at it with aplomb, something we've come to expect from a new iPhone, and indeed other smartphones in this price bracket.
PUBG Mobile defaults to the ‘High' frame rate and ‘HD' graphics settings, but we bumped them to ‘Ultra' and ‘HDR' respectively, and playing the game was still a pretty smooth experience. Extended sessions of games such as Asphalt 9: Legends were not a problem either, and we didn't run into any heating issues.
Benchmarks show that the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max both have 4GB of RAM, while the iPhone XR has to make do with 3GB of RAM, the same as the iPhone X. While this didn't really prove to be a problem in our experience, it's something to bear in mind if you like your devices to be “future proof”, as would be the case with the more expensive iPhone XS duo.
For the first time, iPhones now feature dual-SIM support, but instead of adding a second physical SIM slot, Apple has taken the eSIM route. This means that unless you purchased your iPhone in China, Hong Kong, or Macau — where Apple sells “true” dual-SIM iPhone models — your iPhone XR, iPhone XS, or iPhone XS Max includes an embedded SIM that can be activated as and when desired, in addition to a regular physical SIM slot.
In theory, this is meant to make things more convenient by letting you switch from one provider to another without having to swap physical SIMs. In practice, however, it adds an unnecessary level of complication, at least in its current form.
For one, only select operators — Jio and Airtel, at the moment — support eSIMs in India. This means that if your second SIM is from Vodafone, Idea, or any other operator, you have no option but to port your number to one of the aforementioned duo, which might not be be possible (or desirable) for everyone. Second, even the operators that do support it, don't make it easy for you to get an eSIM activated.
You can't get a new number activated on an eSIM — with both Jio and Airtel, you need to go to a retail store, do the necessary paperwork, get a physical SIM, and then convert it to eSIM so its number can be used with your iPhone. That's like going to your neighbourhood store and mailing yourself what you just purchased to get the “e-commerce” experience.
At least some of that is down to India's KYC norms, more than any technological limitations, but from the end user's perspective, the experience is far from ideal.
Even if you already have a physical SIM with all KYC procedures completed, Reliance Jio requires (at least at the time of filing this review) you to go to one of its retail units to get your SIM converted to eSIM, which is the next level of bonkers.
Thankfully, if you are on Airtel, the experience is a little better. You can initiate the “conversion” of your physical SIM via a text message and then just follow instructions that you will receive via email. We found this part to be relatively hassle-free.
As for actually using the iPhone with two SIMs on a daily basis, the experience is pretty much in line with what you get with Android phones. By default, your physical SIM is labelled “Primary” and the eSIM “Secondary”, but you can change these to whatever you like.
You can have multiple “Data Plans” — as Apple calls them — attached to your eSIM, but only one of them can be active can any given time. The term Data Plan, of course, is a little bit misleading, as you can have a voice-only plan as well.
You need to designate one of these to be the “Default voice line”, and the same (or the other) needs to be the default line for mobile data. Both lines support 4G at the same time, and the iPhone will let you use mobile data from one line while you are on call using the other.
Call history in the Phone app will show a label indicating the line that was used for each call, and tapping the entry will dial that number or contact using the same line. When initiating a new call, you can choose which line to use via a dropdown at the top, with your default line already selected.
However, there seems to be no way to choose which line is used when composing a new SMS message, which seems to be a big oversight. Existing conversations in the Messages app will default to using whatever number was used last in that thread. (Edit for clarity: It's possible to choose which line to use if you've never exchanged messages with a number but once a conversation starts, there's no way to change the number being used.)
Only one of the two numbers can be associated with iMessage and FaceTime at any given time, which is also a bit of a disappointment.
iOS of course also doesn't have the “dual apps” capability that some Android OEMs have added, which means you can run only one instance of apps like WhatsApp, further limiting your dual-SIM experience. You can use either of the numbers with WhatsApp and other services.
The iPhone XR offers the same “wider stereo playback” as the more expensive iPhone XS duo, and the resulting sound is pretty impressive. However, the iPhone XR lacks the “Gigabit-class LTE” found in the other two new iPhone models. This might be a problem some day, but that day isn't coming anytime soon given the pitiful state of networks in our country.
Though iOS 12 brings a host of new features, the experience using of using an iPhone in countries like India is less than ideal due to the features that apps like Apple Maps lack in these regions, something we've noted time and again. We encourage you to read our iOS 12 review to read our thoughts about new features including Screen Time, Shortcuts, and more that will greatly enhance how you use your iPhone.
In terms of battery life, our real-world experience was pretty similar to what we got with iPhone XS Max, in that the iPhone XR easily lasted us a full day, even when our workload was heavier than usual. In our HD video loop test, the iPhone XR lasted an impressive 13 hours and 19 minutes.
Though the iPhone XR is “fast-charge capable”, according to Apple, the company provides no fast charger in the box, which is a big disappointment. Wireless charging is supported.
iPhone XR cameras
The iPhone used to be the best camera phone in business, but that probably hasn't been the case since the days of the iPhone 6 Plus. It started with companies like Samsung taking a lead in low-light camera performance, and since then we've seen the likes of Huawei and Google surpass Apple when it comes to building a phone that's a solid overall performer when it comes to still photography.
Google has been somewhat of a flag bearer in this department with its Pixel range of flagships. While all three generations of Pixel phones might have been plagued by a host of reliability issues, there's been no denying their photography chops.
Even as other manufactures have relied on two, three, and even four sensors in a bid to deliver better image quality — often with mixed results — Google has stuck to a single sensor, while doubling down on machine learning algorithms to enhance the resulting images.
Given Google's success with this approach, it's no surprise to see Apple and others go down the same path, even if it seems that Cupertino is merely dipping its toes instead of going all-in. While the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max continue to feature dual rear cameras, the iPhone XR packs only one sensor at the back.
This, pardon the pun, serves dual purposes. First, it obviously reduces the cost of the more “affordable” iPhone XR, but more importantly, it gives Apple a device with which it can experiment a bit with its machine learning approach to photography.
As we noted in our iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max review, the more expensive duo also rely on machine learning in the form of Smart HDR to deliver great images, but the iPhone XR takes this a step further. Similar to the Google Pixel 3 and a bunch of other phones, the iPhone XR uses machine learning to offer Portrait Mode with the rear camera, which was earlier limited to iPhone models with dual rear cameras.
Even with a single rear camera, the iPhone XR does a good job when it comes to edge detection and the Bokeh effect in portrait mode, but it's not as good as the results we saw with the iPhone XS. We also noticed that some portraits taken with the iPhone XR had less detail compared to similar shots taken by the iPhone XS.
In the absence of a telephoto lens with 2X zoom, we noticed that we needed to be physically closer (than with the iPhone X/ XS/ XS Max) to the subjects of our shots to activate portrait mode. The resulting shots are actually wider, since the standard lens is being used rather than a narrow telephoto lens. You do get Portrait Lighting modes as well, though you are limited to three modes — Natural, Studio, and Contour — with Stage and Stage Mono still exclusive to iPhone models with dual rear cameras. Also note that portrait mode on the iPhone XR will work best with humans and not animals or objects, since the machine learning algorithms have been optimised for the former. In all respects aside from the obviously missing 2x telephoto lens, the performance of the iPhone XR's camera is identical to that of the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max, which is to say it's now up there with the best in the business. Read our reviews of the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max, as well as our comparison of the iPhone XS with some of today's best Android smartphone cameras, for more details.VerdictLet's go back to the question that we started with: is the iPhone XR a compromised device? It isn't; not in ways that would matter to most users. While we are not fans of its display, it does its job without being particularly great. In other areas such as performance and camera quality, the iPhone XR more than holds its own, and is a match for the more expensive iPhone models as well as other flagship phones. That brings us to its price. We've made it abundantly clear that we are not fans of the upward trend that we've seen across the entire range of Apple products. As we noted in our iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max review, even with the promise of regular software updates and better resale value, it's getting increasingly difficult to justify the price tags that Apple's phones command. With a starting price of Rs. 76,900, the iPhone XR isn't exactly a bargain, but it's better value for money than the iPhone XS, and certainly the iPhone XS Max. Heck, even the speaker grille at the bottom is symmetrical, so it shows no one was napping at the wheels while designing this one.Though Apple has discontinued the iPhone X in some markets, it's still very much around in India and available at pretty much the same starting price as the iPhone XR. As much as love the display on the iPhone X, the camera improvements that Smart HDR brings tilt the balance in favour of the newer iPhone, which also brings other niceties like dual-SIM support and a faster processor. The iPhone X is only for those who truly value the deeper blacks on the AMOLED display or are put off by the size of the iPhone XR, and cannot afford the iPhone XS.If you don't mind looking beyond the iPhone, recent months have seen the launch of plenty of great Android flagships including the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 (Review) and Huawei Mate 20 Pro (Review), as well as a host of other phones earlier in the year. Or you could go pick up a “value flagship” like the OnePlus 6T (Review) and save a bunch of money in the process. With that said, a new round of Android flagships is just around the corner as well, so you won't have to wait too long if nothing catches your fancy right now.

http://digitaltechnologynes.com/ Best Smartphone 2018 Top 10 Smartphones are maybe the best gadget we use. That is why it’s super important to pick the phone that’s best for your needs. There are many factors to consider, from design and operating system to security and durability. We consider every aspect of the smartphone to determine whether it’s a good buy for you, or if you’re better off with something else. If you prefer Android os, the Galaxy S9+ is a great big-screen phone, offering a gorgeous 6.2-inch display, fast Snapdragon 845 processor and a much improved camera that produces better images in low light and records awesome slow-motion video. The iPhone X could be an ultra premium iPhone model that is to be announced alongside the iPhone 8. The phone will employ wireless charging, a dual main camera, and an OLED screen occuppying nearly all of the front side. All this could be housed inside a water-resistant body made of glass on the front and back, with a stainless steel frame holding it together. Needless to say, the phone will feature next-generation processor and hardware, including an Apple-made A11 SoC and up to 256 gigs of storage. If this rumored iPhone 8 is released, don't expect it to be cheap.

The most popular LG vacuums
Tumblr media
Of course, LG does not require the introduction. Today, models under this brand successfully compete in almost all segments of consumer electronics. Moreover, the company confidently dominates the OLED TVs segment and successfully develops NanoCell technology (an analogue of QLED). Additionally, LG produces some of the best ultra-short throw projectors, providing 100-150-inch projection at a distance of up to 15 cm, dishwashers, washing machines, refrigerators, smartphones, etc. A simplified analysis of the company's assortment demonstrates its dominance in the upper segment of mid-budget models. With the exception of OLED TVs, LG models of this price range most often become the most popular. In addition, the company also annually presents flagships in almost the entire spectrum, confirming its status as one of the leaders in consumer electronics. High innovative level, good quality, reasonable prices and excellent service provide them with excellent competitiveness. Of course, Samsung or Sony are sometimes ahead of LG in innovation, but almost always inferior in price; Huawei or Xiaomi usually win in price, but hopelessly lose in terms of service, etc. As a result, the company has been feeling confident in almost all segments for several decades. Of course, modern high-tech vacuum cleaners are no exception. Today the company offers a huge range of almost any vacuums. The format of this article does not pretend to be their full review, offering only a few of the most popular series.
LG CordZero A9 (powerful cordless handstick vacuums)
This series includes the A9 Master, A9 Petnbed, and A9 Ultimate models.
Tumblr media
As known, Dyson, Snark, Kirby, Bissell, and several other well-known companies traditionally occupy very strong positions in the segment of powerful cordless handstick vacuums. However, the long list of reputable competitors did not bother LG managers. CordZero A9 series adequately replenished a wide range of excellent vacuums in this segment.
Key Features
All models use LG's innovative Aeroscience technology. The technology uses centrifugal force, which pushes dust particles from the air vortex to the walls of the cyclone chamber, purifying the air.
Tumblr media
All models use the powerful Smart Inverter Motor P9 and the advanced Axial Turbo Cyclone technology. In particular, two cleaning stages increase the power airflow.
Tumblr media
This solution provides an additional adjustment of the air flow using sixty ultra-thin spiral blades. As a result, the A9 Master delivers maximum suction power up to 140W in turbo mode, demonstrating excellent cleaning performance. Vacuum cleaners also have a 5 Step Filtration System, which cleans the air from larger particles in steps 1-3, and from finer dust in steps 4-5.
Tumblr media
All vacuums use washable filters, which greatly simplifies maintenance.
Tumblr media
According to the company, the vacuum cleans the air from particles to 2.5 microns in size. In addition, vacuum cleaners use a Power Drive Nozzle with a rotating roller inside the nozzle.
Tumblr media
It raises debris and dust from the surface for better suction. Dual PowerPack is another plus of these vacuums. In fact, the company offers an extra battery to increase Run Time.
Tumblr media
Two batteries provide up to 12 minutes in Turbo mode, up to 80 minutes in Normal mode without Power Drive Nozzle, and up to 60 minutes with Power Drive Nozzle. Basically, turbo mode is designed to clean carpets, along walls, and heavy dirt. Moreover, A9 Ultimate uses Power Drive Mop technology with automatic water supply and 3-step water control.
LG robotic vacuums
The growing popularity of robotic vacuums provoked the activity of almost all the leaders in this segment. Of course, they have to compete with iRobot, Anker Innovations, Neato Robotics, Ecovacs Robotics, iLife, etc, which purposefully specialize in the design and manufacture of robotic vacuums. But LG adequately withstands fierce competition by offering competitive models. At CES 2018, LG introduced the flagship CordZero R9 robot vacuum with suction power up to 120W in turbo mode.
Tumblr media
Manufacturers of robotic vacuum cleaners must choose the optimal balance between their power, functionality and size. On the one hand, the low profile provides the possibility of cleaning under low-profile furniture, which, of course, is very user friendly. For example, the height of the thinnest DEEBOT SLIM does not exceed 2.2" (5.7 cm). But usually, the height of robotic vacuums varies in the range of 3.5-4 inches (10 cm). Unfortunately, this factor significantly limits engineers in using sufficiently powerful motors. As a result, the suction power of most models does not exceed 2.0 kPa, or approximately a few tens of watts. In principle, it provides relatively high-quality cleaning of a smooth surface, but it is unlikely to be able to clean the carpet well, especially with a high pile. The small dust bin capacity is another problem of most modern models. Today, only iRobot Roomba i7+ with Clean Base (price about $ 1,000) provides unique Automatic Dirt Disposal option. In addition, the company sells Clean Base separately for $ 300 and it's compatible with previous iRobot Roomba models. In fact, this feature extends the level of cleaning automation by eliminating the need to manually empty dustbin.
CordZero R9
LG engineers decided to break the tradition by creating a powerful model to the detriment of its size. According to the results of 2019, CordZero R9 confidently ahead of all in terms of power suction. For comparison, iRobot Roomba i7+ and Xiaomi Roborock S6 provide only 33W, new Neato Botvac Connected - up to 60W, Samsung VR20H9050UW - 30W. Moreover, it has dust bin capacity of 600 ml. But the height and weight of the R9 reach 5.63 inches (14.3 cm) and 8.2 lbs (4.1 kg). In fact, the CordZero R9 is today the best carpet robotic vacuum. The high-speed Smart Inverter Motor creates powerful airflow in the cyclone chambers, purifying the air of dust due to centrifugal force.
Tumblr media
Like the CordZero A9, the R9 uses a 5 Step Filtration System and an integrated Power Drive Nozzle. In addition, the robot uses 3D DUAL Eye technology with a 3D camera and a laser sensor for navigation.
Tumblr media
Of course, R9 uses all the traditional modes, including zigzag, spot (spiral), and cell-by-cell. In addition, the model has a timer and sound notification, supports control from a smartphone through the LG SmartThinQ app, cleaning schedule, room zoning, self-diagnosis, “Turbo” and “Smart Turbo” modes. The model easily overcomes obstacles up to 2.0 cm. Pros - innovative technologies, including Smart Inverter Motor, Axial Turbo Cyclone, 5 Step Filtration System, 3D Dual Eye, Power Drive Nozzle, DeepThinQ; - very high power; - noise level up to 53 dB; - dust bin capacity 0.6 liters; - 5200 mAh battery provides 60-90 minutes Run time; - good overcoming obstacles; - additional functions, including overview, security, etc. Cons - the price exceeds $ 1,000; - large dimensions and weight.
HOM-BOT Wi-Fi Enabled Turbo+ (CR5765GD)
The company also expanded the popular HOM-BOT SQUARE series with the introduction of Wi-Fi Enabled CR5765GD. Traditionally, companies have manufactured robotic vacuums of round shape. LG engineers have broken this tradition by creating the SQUARE series. An almost rectangular shape provides the most effective cleaning in the corners.
Tumblr media
The model costs about $ 1,000, but its smart functionality is fully consistent with this level. Their list includes: - SmartThinQ technology; - Cleaning Diary; - HomeGuard; - HomeView; - SmartDiagnosis; - Magnetic Wall; - 7 Smart Cleaning Modes (Zigzag, Cell-by-Cell, Spot (Spiral), My Space, Turbo, Smart Turbo, Repeat.) Of course, SmartThinQ technology supports control via the app on the smartphone, or using voice commands with the Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa. In addition, the HomeView option can send videos from Hom-Bot Turbo+ to a smartphone, which is often very convenient.
Tumblr media
The HomeGuard function automatically detects movement using a motion sensor, captures images and sends it to a smartphone. Thus, the robot simultaneously performs the functions of a housekeeper and guard dog. Of course, some are ironic about the reliability of such protection, because the image will mainly contain the shoes of the attacker. But in the future, it may well qualify for the status of a new concept robotic-guard. Like most modern LG vacuums, the HOM-BOT uses the innovative brushless Smart Inverter Motor based on magnetic power with an unprecedented 10-year warranty. Other specs include: - dust bin capacity - 0.6 liters; - noise level - 60/68 dB (normal / turbo); - height and weight - 3.5 "and 6.6 lbs. Run time of 2330mAh battery reaches approximately 100 min, which provides cleaning of about 150 square meters.
CordZero A9+ Power Drive Mop and LG CordZero ThinQ M9 Robotic Mop
At CES 2020, the company introduced the CordZero A9+ with advanced proprietary Power Drive Mop technology. Advanced automatic water supply system delivers the optimum amount of water to two rapidly rotating mop pads.
Tumblr media
The switch allows the user to adjust the water flow for different types of flooring.
Tumblr media
M9 Robotic Mop became the first LG robotic vacuum with this feature.
Tumblr media
Using Wi-Fi, the owner of R9 and M9 can combine them into a single apartment cleaning system. In this case, after the end of its own cleaning cycle, R9 notifies M9 of areas requiring a mop. Of course, many will be skeptical about using two expensive robotic vacuums for such full cleaning. But this idea may be acceptable for a large apartment, office or for an unlimited budget.
Conclusions
Thus, today the range of the most popular new LG vacuums includes the powerful cordless handstick vacuums CordZero A9 series, the most powerful CordZero R9 robotic vacuum for carpets, Hom-Bot Turbo with an exellent set of smart functions, A9+ with improved Power Drive Mop technology and M9 Robotic Mop. Of course, LG robotic vacuums cost around $ 1,000, but the innovative brushless Smart Inverter Motor with an unprecedented 10-year warranty, the high power suction of the R9, and exellent smart functionality of Hom-Bot Turbo+ meet this price. Of course, Chinese competitors win in price, but hopelessly lose LG in terms of service. Of course, this aspect is especially important for expensive, technically sophisticated devices. This video demonstrates the LG CordZero A9 Ultimate vacuum with Power Drive Mop. Read the full article

Will the iPhone X be a hit beyond Apple diehards? 3 questions answered
by John Jordan
Tumblr media
Editor’s note: As consumers eager to get their hands on Apple’s 10th anniversary phone line up online to be among the first to buy one, a few questions remain. Known as the iPhone X, the device starts at about US$1,000 and only gets more expensive from there. Some have warned that the high price tag will limit demand. Is that true? John Jordan, an expert in supply chain management and information systems, believes answering that and other lingering questions requires a closer look at information economics, supply chain theory and encryption.
Tumblr media
Apple stores have become like meccas of consumerism and among most valuable retail spaces in the world. AP Photo/Richard Vogel
Will people pay that much for a smartphone?
There are two things to keep in mind here.
First, Apple understands the luxury goods business as well as any fashion company (the Apple stores outperform Tiffany in sales per square foot, a standard measure of retail business) and sells intangibles – like that feeling of superiority some Apple owners seem to have – as well as anyone.
But the iPhone is also priced like an information good. To illustrate, imagine opening weekend for the upcoming “Star Wars” film in December. Many people will be happy to shell out $20 to see it at the theater even though they could pay substantially less if they wait a few months. Time quite literally becomes money.
Apple is betting consumers will pay up to have it now. As with every previous iPhone, buyers who defer gratification will pay lower prices.
Second, as for the tangibles – the phone’s actual physical characteristics like Face ID and an edge-to-edge display – the X is an extraordinarily capable device. In particular, the application of artificial intelligence to the cameras means that the X’s image quality (via sophisticated exposure control) is actually higher than most standalone cameras.
And this AI is being run on a very fast, sophisticated custom processor that is unique to Apple and outperforms its laptop computers. The processor also opens new horizons for app developers, and their innovations on the platform will bear serious watching. The neural networks built into the processor are designed to mimic some aspects of our mammalian brains. And the image quality comes from an OLED screen – which, along with the iPhone 8, is a first on a phone – that is costing Apple an estimated two to three times what it spent on the iPhone 7 Plus display.
In other words, the retail price is actually helping pay for a lot of identifiable benefits in addition to the brand’s familiar intangibles like design and the device’s feel in your hand.
Tumblr media

Will Apple’s supply chain be able to keep up?
By all external measures, the X looks to be a design landmark because of its display, the powerful processor and the unique camera setup, and I believe will definitely be in high demand. But that performance and innovation comes with new levels of complexity, which often causes lapses in the supply chain that slow down delivery.
So far, several typical supply chain issues appear to be under control: The A11 Bionic chip is Apple-designed and manufactured by Taiwan Semiconductor, a longtime Apple partner, familiar with Apple’s high standards and massive demand. The processor also runs the iPhone 8, which spreads development costs over more products.
In addition, final assembly of the X is done in China by Foxconn, another familiar player that has invested heavily in both capacity and capability to meet Apple’s raising of the bar for performance.
Still, an issue that could cause trouble is the operating system. While technically not a supply chain issue, it’s critical to ship phones as complex as the X with stable software from the outset. Problems that crop up could turn into delays or loud customer dissatisfaction.
The other supply chain issue to watch concerns the OLED screen, which is single-sourced from Samsung, at once a major Apple supplier and obvious market rival. Sole-sourcing is always a risk, and in this case, Samsung sells several competing smartphones. While it is reported that Apple is looking for a secondary vendor, Samsung has invested in additional OLED capacity.
Even with this investment, relying on a competitor for a key component of a breakthrough product introduces business risk most managers would rather avoid. The display business unit that supplies Apple has different objectives than Samsung’s smartphone team, which stands to win business if its rival falters.
Tumblr media
It’s still unclear whether iPhone X’s use of facial recognition software to unlock the phone will be embraced by consumers. AP Photo/Marcio Jose Sanchez
Will the general public embrace facial recognition?
One of the key new features of the iPhone X is its use of facial recognition software to unlock the phone, known as Face ID.
Senator Al Franken has already sent Apple a letter raising several privacy concerns about this security feature – some of which had already been addressed by Apple. When the new unlocking technology was unveiled in September, numerous social media posts wondered if muggers, jealous partners or police officers could force the phone to unlock on an unwilling, sleeping or reproduced face.
While facial recognition on the X appears to be well tested, Apple has issued a security brief saying it does not guarantee the unlocking technology for kids under 13 or for identical twins. Apparently it’s hard to tell preteens apart by measuring faces that are not fully mature. And during the September presentation, an executive suggested an “evil twin” could unlock your device even though the phone checks 30,000 data points.
In the past, more primitive facial recognition has been cracked with photos or videos of people and later 3-D-printed heads, but Apple insists the X is far more sophisticated, requiring a live, 3-D face to blink for unlocking to occur. The fact that the sensors operate on an infrared spectrum means the unlocking can occur in the dark.
Further, it does not seem to be widely recognized that the facial biometric data is held in a secure element on the phone (not in a cloud) that is unreachable, in theory, by anyone except the user. Apple has no central database of people’s facial pictures or data points, and cannot retrieve such data.
Users can also opt out and simply type a passcode, although the Touch ID option from more recent iPhones is gone.
In sum, early reports show very heavy demand for an admittedly expensive device, demand Apple will ultimately meet but not, as some have reported, until well into 2018. Only minutes after the wee-hours opening of pre-orders on Oct. 27, customers were getting messages telling them their expected delivery was a month beyond the predicted date of Nov. 3 for the first batch of iPhones.
Tumblr media
In the longer term, its combination of new cameras, graphics and artificial intelligence technologies devoted to image processing will open a broad range of new possibilities for third-party app developers, as long as they agree to be constrained by Apple’s privacy policies. A year from now, I believe we will see the world differently in the aftermath of this device.

Introduction
Curious colleagues, we are in (arguably) the best month of the year, and as F. Scott Fitzgerald perfectly said,
Tumblr media
Whether or not you’re in a place with crisp air and colorful leaves, take a minute before beginning this session and check how inspired you are at present. I know, I know… a big question right out of the gate, but really though, when was the last time you felt truly inspired?
As we embark on October and begin the home stretch of 2017 (helloooo Q4!), things like 2018 planning and your 3x3 are not just future projects on the calendar as mentioned last month, but are now open documents on your computer! Things such as your role for the agency in 2018 and your personal career goals deserve your full attention and an inspired you!
As the world seems to begin anew in October, use this month to invest some time in what inspires you. Time outside? An afternoon of creative writing? Volunteering? Whatever it is… pencil it in because,
You are worth it.
Your career is worth it.
And your 2018 3x3 and team will thank you for it.
Ok people! Let’s go.
Mentees’ Perspective
As we do each month… let’s gain valuable perspective from your mentee(s). Their mindset should be a guiding force in how you present this material.
Here are a few starter questions…
1. What is going on with your clients and their business?
2. What are your clients’ focuses right now?
3. What are challenges or things that need solving with your account(s)/client(s)?
4. Anything you’re especially curious about or want to learn?!
5. How can I make this time most useful and valuable for you?
Now having those questions answered, begin walking through the session with those filters in place.
News
1) Twitter Updates Their Word Limit To 280 Characters
Tumblr media
In Twitter’s 11-year history, one pillar of the platform that has remained the same is the 140 character limit per tweet… until this past week. The initial limit was one of the most compelling and unique aspects of the platform that captured the attention of the public back when the app launched in 2008.
Pop Quiz: Do you know why 140 characters was originally chosen?! (answer below)
Twitter’s fundamental undertone of brevity whether an account is striving to be informative, funny, or snarky has shaped the way online conversation and news has evolved for the last decade.
The new limit that Twitter announced this past week in a press release is not just a slight bump but a 100% increase to 280 characters. The increase will be offered in all languages except for Japanese, Chinese, and Korean (which all can convey more complex statements/thoughts in less characters) and will begin rolling out to a small group of accounts in the coming weeks. Plans to roll out broadly will occur, but Twitter is going to do it slowly.
Now let’s touch on some good ol’ cause and effect. As to causes, it’s no secret that Twitter has been struggling to grow in the past few years. Could the 140 character limit be a frustration contributing to stalled growth? It seems so as Twitter has been doing quite a bit of research and has found that “9% of tweets in English hit the 140-character limit vs. only 0.4% in Japanese, which suggests certain languages could benefit from having more available characters for tweets.”
Tumblr media
A top executive for Twitter recently said, "our research shows us that the character limit is a major cause of frustration for people Tweeting in English, but it is not for those Tweeting in Japanese. Also, in all markets, when people don’t have to cram their thoughts into 140 characters and actually have some to spare, we see more people Tweeting – which is awesome!"
If you think about it, Twitter has been slightly allowing longer tweets for a while with updates such as photos and retweets not being counted in total character number.
Now as to the effects… this change to the platform could change how users and brands use the platform in a big way. Although some may be emotionally attached to the 140 character limit, as Jack Dorsey recently tweeted, the new character limit will do an excellent job at “maintaining our brevity, speed, and essence!”
What do you think about this? More importantly, how will this affect the brands you work with?
How will longer tweets change a brand’s ability to creatively work within Twitter? Does this update make you excited or nervous?
And lastly, which Twitter account do you want to hear more from?
Answer (question above): The SMS limit was 160 characters at the time the app was built, making 140 characters an “arbitrary choice” according to Dorsey.
2) Snapchat’s 3D Ads For Brands
Over the past few months Snapchat (the social platform that currently has over 3 billion pieces of content created on it per day) has started testing 3D graphics. What is that exactly? Imagine an emoji or avatar being placed in a video that you’re taking and not just being present but actually interacting with the environment. And yes, you can even walk around this 3D character or product and see it interact and do its thing from multiple angles.
Now you may be more familiar with these than you think… remember the dancing hotdog? Yep... that’s exactly what we’re talking about! The viral dancing hotdog as well as the integration of Bitmoji into 3D graphics is just the beginning.
Tumblr media
The content saturated platform has announced that this tool is now available for brands. Calling them 3D World Lenses, brands can now work with Snapchat to create their own branded 3D experience.
To give you an idea of how powerful lenses are… Nielsen has released data that “the average sponsored lens increases ad awareness by 19.7 points and lifts brand awareness by 6.4 points.” Just for the puppy dog lens, users have spent over 7,000 years playing with it. #woah
Jeff Miller, Snapchat’s Global Head of Creative Strategy recently stated, “It’s something that’s first grounded organically with our community, so you can see the success of these 3-D World Lenses, for example, with the dancing hotdog. Once we started to see that and we started to see adoption, we knew it was the right time to introduce it to advertisers.”
Bud Light and Warner Bros are the first brands on the scene with Bud Light having created a 3D virtual beer vendor that any Snapchat user will be able to place in an environment to hand out (virtual) beer while Warner Bros created a car that spins around the users’ head to promote their upcoming movie, Blade Runner.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Let’s think about how this affects brands? Miller stated, “it’s something three-dimensional that can recognize surfaces or planes and is really cool because you can start to imagine ways that Snapchatters can have fun with brands and the world around them—not just on their faces. You can imagine a 3-D product that you can see in front of you, that you can place in your hand, that you can interact with and walk around with and have that sense of that product itself.”
How do you imagine your clients utilizing this Snapchat tool? Do you anticipate Instagram adding this into their platform?
Now let’s shift to AR as a whole. Between ARKit and ARCore (and the various apps being developed on those platforms), the average consumer’s comfort level with AR is going to drastically increase over the next year or so. How are your clients prepared to address this behavioral/comfort change? Have you explored AR opportunities with your client?
Tumblr media
3) Pinterest Teams Up With Target For The Holidays
Tumblr media
I know it seems crazy, but the holidays really are just around the corner! With October being the month where the majority of consumers begin thinking about gifts and looking for inspiration (see the NRF 2017 Holiday Playbook for details), we’re seeing brands beginning their holiday strategies… like Target!
The major retailer has teamed up with Pinterest to license Pinterest’s new lens tool for Target.com through the Target app. For example, users can take a picture of a friend’s living room or a coworker’s purse and then Target, by using Pinterest’s Lens technology, will show the user products from Target.com that are close to the photographed product.
Tumblr media
Not only does this give users a direct tool to sort through the mass amounts of items on Target.com but the longer consumers use this tool, the more Target will be able to see desired trends and products that it should add to its store.
Essentially, this is a brand using visual technology to drive sales. We’ve seen brands like Neiman Marcus and Home Depot utilize camera based search technology, but Target will be the first to use photos of real life objects.
How are your clients using visual technology? Have you ever tried the lens feature on Pinterest?
If you haven’t, take a minute and check it out with your mentor before moving on.

1) Samsung Turns Iconic Bridge Into A Harp
To promote the Samsung Note 8 in Ireland, Samsung decided to turn Dublin’s Samuel Beckett Bridge (an iconic Dublin landmark) into a ginormous harp. Yes, you did read that correctly, a huge harp!
The architect that designed the bridge was inspired in design by the shape of a harp, but being a bridge, it of course cannot play music. To bring the harp shape to life, Samsung linked a real harp, being played by a famous harpist, via software that lit up the corresponding cables on the bridge as the harpist plucked each string. The process of this was shown through the smartphone’s screen thus tying the experience back to the product.
The creative director working on this experiential activation said, "As a recognizable Irish symbol, the Samuel Beckett Bridge has drawn attention from brands before, but we were determined to make the public see it in a completely new light."
youtube
The musical experience can now be viewed through content videos captured, which of course are being shared and promoted on social.
What big and somewhat wild idea do you have for your client(s)? Have you shared it? If so, have you pitched it again recently?
2) Taco Bell + Forever 21 Team Up On Fashion Line
Tumblr media
There have been a flurry of brands creating clothing lines and all sorts of wacky swag (think McDonalds, KFC, and of course, our very own Cheetos).
Taco Bell has jumped on the bandwagon but with a strategic twist… by partnering and collaborating with a fashion retailer.
The limited time collection will include everything from tops to bodysuits and even jackets in “hunger-inspiring prints.” These flavorful fashion finds will be in select stores and on Forever 21’s website starting October 11th, following of course a late night LA fashion show and concert that’ll happen the night before.
There’s also a social play where fans can submit videos and/or photos through social with the hashtag #F21xTacoBell for the opportunity to see their content included in the fashion show. Between real life supermodels walking the runway (that have a social media tie to the company) to the sheer fun of this idea…. it’s bound to be a home run.
One thing to think about is that by partnering with Forever21, Taco Bell gained access to designers, suppliers, distribution, and an already built online store. This makes the reach of this collaboration bigger as the infrastructure is already there.
What do you think of this? Is there a product play for a brand you work on? If so… are there ways to make it a reality with a partnership?
If a brand you work on could partner/collaborate with another brand, what would it be? What’s keeping you from pitching this idea?
3) Virgin Atlantic Promotes Free Inflight Wifi With Comedy Festival
Tumblr media
Raise your hand if airline wifi makes you nuts? Paying $39.49 for 2 hours of wifi just to find that Google’s home page can’t even load is an easy way to ruin a flight… not to mention put you behind at work.
Enter Virgin Atlantic… the airline that is the first worldwide to offer free wifi for its entire fleet. As a way to promote this exciting and long awaited amenity, Virgin featured a reversed form on in-flight entertainment. Normally airlines gather content from the outside world and then give passengers access to it. Virgin reversed this by creating content and entertainment in flight and then broadcasting it out to the world. On September 28, 6 comedians took off from London on 6 different planes and instead of entertaining from the aisle, the comedians did a comedy show broadcasted on Instagram Stories and Twitter. The passengers in flight could tune in as well as brand fans around the globe. This in flight comedy festival was the first of its kind and gets a perfect 10 for innovation!
The chief creative officer working on the activation said, “There have been airlines that have done movie screenings and live music, but those are all for a very small audience, for the people flying. We want to broadcast it to the world."
First, what are annoyances and/or pain points that consumers experience with or around a brand you work on? Like Virgin America, how can you address those? Wifi is a small thing, but it makes a big difference.
Second, often times experiential ideas don’t make it due to the amount of people reached not justifying the cost. This is the perfect example of an experiential idea turned brand experience through broadcasting. How can an experiential idea with a brand you work on gain more reach?

1) AMC Is Brining VR to Theaters
Tumblr media
It’s happening people! AMC has formally announced that they are currently working on bringing VR to theaters.
AMC has invested $20 million with VR company Dreamscape Immersive, to create unique VR experiences that will debut in only AMC cinemas over the next 18 months.
The type of VR AMC is interested in is a bit different than what you may initially think. Instead of the usual more immersive version of gaming or movie watching, the experiences will be “modeled off of Dreamscape’s “Virtual Reality Multiplex” technology, which lets groups of up to six people explore virtual settings as unique avatars, which can be seen to all participants in the group even while wearing the headsets.”
There will be new film to experience as well as experiences featuring beloved movie franchises that will offer a whole new way for audiences to interact with storylines. AMC is already in talks with various film studios. Over the next 18 months, we’ll see 6 VR locations open up and don’t worry about it being too expensive. Tickets will run from $15-20, so just a tad higher than a movie.
What’s notable about this update is although it may seem like a natural progression in the integration of VR, it’s a step in making VR the norm, changing how consumers see themselves in a storyline and how they expect to interact with content. Think of young children… will they enjoy regular movies more or these VR immersive films? Curious to see if in the future, regular films with be the new “talkies.”
What are your thoughts on this? How does this affect the brands you work on?
2) Amazon Adds MORE Hardware To Ecosystem
Tumblr media
At the end of September, Amazon announced some exciting new Echo devices at a company event. The new products are listed below!
-       Echo Spot
-       Fire TV (lower $ option)
-       Echo Plus
-       Echo Connect
Amazon’s ambitions seem to be endless in an effort to have Alexa enabled devices at every touchpoint. Currently, Amazon is leading the smart speaker/connected device market but the competition is tough. With competitors like Google, Apple, and now Facebook they’re being forced to innovate and offer an ecosystem rather than just a standalone device. Like many Apple products, the tempting factor of multiple devices that seamlessly work together and that are buildable over time is quite strong.
Amazon also offers lower price points than their competitors, letting households of all incomes experience AI for just $40.
In tech reports released throughout this year to the speakers at TMA Jumpstart, we are entering the age of voice and sound.
How are your clients prepared on this? Are they educated on it? We have a unique opportunity to be the ones to educate and then pitch to gracefully transition our clients from a visual age to a sound age.

Hot Topics and Trends in Content + plug for TMA Studio
Tumblr media
We are TMA Studio and we are here to talk video.
Do you know TMA STUDIO? The elevator pitch: we are The Marketing Arm’s internal video content studio. We help create and/or produce all video needs for TMA Clients. Everything from commercials to sizzle reels to facebook posts.
Tumblr media
It’s not ground breaking news that video consumption is exploding.
There is a massive increase in what’s being made, uploaded and shared, everywhere.
Just take a look at these eye popping stats. And if we wait a few months, they will get even more staggering.
Massive Volume:
82% of Twitter users watch video content on Twitter.
YouTube has over a billion users, almost one-third of total internet users.
45% of people watch more than an hour of Facebook or YouTube videos a week.
More than 500 million hours of videos are watched on YouTube each day.
More video content is uploaded in 30 days than the major U.S. television networks have created in 30 years.
87% of online marketers use video content.
Rise in Mobile:
Over half of video content is viewed on mobile.
92 percent of mobile video viewers share videos with others.
90% of Twitter video views happen on a mobile device.
Periscope users have created more than 200 million broadcasts.
10 million videos are watched on Snapchat per day.
Video Engages:
51% of marketing professionals worldwide name video as the type of content with the best ROI.
Marketers who use video grow revenue 49% faster than non-video users.
59% of executives agree that if both text and video are available on the same topic, they are more likely to choose video.
Social video generates 1200% more shares than text and images combined.
But what makes video so much fun is the innovative and creative ways we are making and producing it.
Take this example from Fashion Photographer Steven Sebring, who’s created a ground breaking 360 camera and rotating stage. Here is a mesmorizing example of skateboarder Rodney Mullen for Vogue Magazine.
youtube
Another trend we are seeing, is utilizing user video to create the message. The barrier between professional and pro-sumer is blurring. Samsung’s anthem (by Casey Neistat) to creators is a perfect example of the power of the people to create.
youtube
Even Cheerios has gotten into the user generated trend. Why shoot babies when SO MUCH good video already exists?
youtube
How about using science and experimentation to tell a story. Symatics has created one of the coolest videos ever to demonstrate the power of robotics in an unusual and unexpected way. When video tells a compelling story, people will share.
youtube
For us at TMA to be successful, we are working hard to not only stay on top of trends but also have a finger on the pulse of partners that are doing great work.
Currently we are producing over 1,000 pieces of content a year, broadcast spots, sizzle reels, stadium LED boards, brand films and more.
We are executing across multiple diverse solutions and offerings to our clients, as our TMA hub and spoke wheel suggest. And our client list keeps growing.
Our team now operates in both LA and Dallas and has a diverse and impressive media background, having deep experience at brands like Oprah, HGTV, Food Network, Chiat Day, ABC Television and more!

App of the Month
IKEA AR App
Tumblr media
It should be no surprise that we are featuring an AR app made with Apple’s ARKit this month. This is such a huge leap for the world of mobile AR and you need to understand how it works.
While playing with this new app, think about all the brand applications for an AR app. How many can you list with your mentee/mentor?
Here’s a great read featuring a long list!
How Brands Are Using ARKits Capes
*Now for those of you that do not have an iOS device, the reason we’re featuring an iOS only app is that Apple’s ARKit has been launched while Google’s ARCore has not. Stay tuned for an Android AR app in the future. :) Please don’t let it stop you from playing with it though. Find an iOS friend and explore the app together!

Xiaomi launches its gaming beast Black Shark 2 Pro with latest processor and 12GB RAM
Xiaomi has just unleashed its affordable gaming beast Black Shark 2 Pro.
Gaming smartphones have taken the industry by storm during the past couple of years, and they feature some of the best spec packages that Android-branded phones offer. In a recent development by Chinese phone maker Xiaomi, the Black Shark 2 Pro has gone official with the most powerful to date processor — Snapdragon 855 Plus.
For the uninitiated, Xiaomi sub-brand Black Shark launched its first smartphone back in 2018 and earlier this year, the company launched its second-generation — Black Shark 2 in the market. However, today’s launch of the Black Shark 2 Pro has uncovered some most anticipated upgrades in tow.
First of all, this new Black Shark 2 Pro arrives with the Snapdragon 855 Plus. That processor has only made available in one other device until now and that is ASUS ROG Phone II. As you know that Qualcomm originally announced, the stronger CPU and GPU performance of this upgraded chipset, it should offer better performance for gaming smartphones.
As suggested by previous leaks and affirmed by Xiaomi, the phone got an impressive 12GB of RAM. The performance leap offered by this over another comparable handset containing a more conventional 8GB of RAM will likely be limited edition. However, it should put owners in good stead for future titles, as most of the phones generally have a 2-year lifespan.
Going further, the Black Shark 2 Pro offers a 6.39-inch FHD+ OLED display which the company says has a response speed of 34.7ms and a touch precision rate of 0.3mm. The phone boasts a 256GB of UFS 3.0 storage and has a 4,000 mAh battery with fast charging. There are also some minor hardware differences in terms of the design compared to the Black Shark 2.
The gaming phone comes with the latest Android 9 Pie. The phone has a modest boost from the previous version’s camera as well, from 12MP to 13MP. This complements the primary rear shooter with a 48MP sensor altogether. The Black Shark 2 Pro will be available in Black, Silver, Blue, Orange, and Purple colors.
The entry-level model retails for $435 only and your favorite 12GB / 256GB variant will cost you around $580. The phone is currently only available in China, and considering its rumored launch in India, it may also launch in Pakistan in the near future.

Why cell phone photos look so ugly on a computer?
Jun 27, 2018
The ability to take photos with mobile phones has become stronger, coupled with the inherent portability, even in photography, news and other professional areas gradually eroded the position of SLR cameras.
We also often remember the beautiful moments recorded by the camera on a mobile phone, but once these pictures go to a computer or a big screen TV, it seems that we have become less “good” on the phone.
Why do photos taken by a mobile phone look good on a mobile phone, but suddenly it's not good to watch it on a computer? Here we come to answer this question for you.
Screen Resolution
The perception is different on mobile phones and computers. The first reason is resolution.
At present, the mainstream resolution of mobile phones is basically maintained at a level above FHD, even to 2K or 4K, and HD-level resolution is rarely seen on thousands of machines. The mainstream screen size is maintained at about 6 inches, which means that the pixel density of its display reaches 264PPI, and even goes beyond 300PPI.
So on the mobile phone, we see the ultra-high-detailed photo thumbnails, the picture sharpness is higher, the same area has more clear details, the perception is better.
Mobile phone screen size PPI comparison table
Size and Resolution PPI
iPhone 4 3.5" 960x640 330
iPhone 8 Plus 5.5" 1920x1080 401
iPhone X 5.8" 2436x1125 458
Galaxy S9 5.7" 2960x1440 570
Xerpia XZ P 3.5 inches 3840x2160 861
This table lists the current common mobile phone resolution, FHD and 2K levels as the mainstream, and there is such a terrible presence of 4K level.
Looking back at the computer screen, even though thousands of mobile phones have already used FHD screens, there are still many introductory notebooks with ancestral 1366x768 resolution, and even the mainstream desktop monitors are only 1080P level. In Internet cafes, professional studios, you may see the emergence of 4K monitors. So how are their resolutions?
Main display size PPI comparison table
Size and Resolution PPI
19 inches 1440x900 90
21.5 inches 1920x1080 102
27 inches 1920x1080 82
27 inches 2560x1440 109
23.6 inches 3840x2160 195
From the above table, it is clear that even a 23.6-inch “small monitor” coupled with a 4K level has a PPI of only 195, which is basically half of the current mainstream smartphone. At present, the mainstream 4K displays are mostly 27 inches or even higher, so the pixel density will decrease, not to mention those products with only 1080P level.
What are the consequences of falling pixel density? For example, watching the same size picture on the iPhone 8 Plus and the 21-inch 1080P display, the former shows a pixel density about four times that of the latter, providing sharpness and detail that are not at all on one level.
So our photos on the phone looked very sharp and sharp, and they were blurred on the monitor to suspect their eyes.
Screen color, material
The second reason is the screen color. Due to different product positioning, the screen material selection of mobile phones and computers is very different.
A mobile phone is a device that we can't live without. It means we use it in various postures. Walking to play mobile phones, lying down to play mobile phones, while doing push-ups and sideline drama ... Mobile phone screen viewing angle must meet our needs for color, from all directions, will not change color white phone can be called qualified.
Passing upwards, the mobile phone screen is also more pursuing the accuracy of the screen, not just sRGB color gamut, DCI-P3 color gamut and other broader color gamut standard has become the standard flagship mobile phone, whether hair color or color accuracy, Both have reached the mainstream level of current display technology.
The high color gamut and high accuracy are mainly attributed to the development of mobile phone panels. Even for thousands of mobile phones, IPS screens are the products of pass lines, and even better OLED screens have basically become the mainstream of high-end mobile phone screens, with their color and contrast performance. Needless to say, it looks cool.
The computer is very different. We can't play computer on the bed with the monitor. We sit at the computer desk more positively and watch it at a fixed angle. Therefore, the material of the computer screen does not need to be too good. Just look at it from the front. Do not change color, color does not run around, can basically meet the needs of many people.
And because of the larger size, it is more difficult and costly for computer monitors to achieve a wide color gamut. The display with DCI-P3 color gamut support can cost half the price of a regular monitor than a regular monitor, so mainstream notebooks and monitors use color displays to lose a lot of mobile phones. The photos taken by the cell phone on the top are naturally grayish.
At present, many computer display screens still use TN materials, and even entry-level 4K displays are also used. Although gray-scale response speed is fast, the biggest disadvantage of TN screens is poor viewing angles and hair color is relatively general, so they look good. Mobile phone photos, unless you use high-level software to increase saturation, it will look a little off.
Comparing the difference between the TN screen and the OLED screen, the black and grey feeling of the computer is not enough, and the red and green colors are not bright enough, and the mobile phone OLED is very seductive and can catch the eyeball colors instantly. However, in many TN screens, the color accuracy of the Macbook Air is still relatively good, that is, the resolution and viewing angle are far from satisfactory.
The same photo on the computer and mobile phone looks like a gray filter? It's not that you can't take a photo with your phone. It's up to you to change your monitor.
After talking about the two more realistic back-pan man, the following is to say something more metaphysical. Why the mobile phone photos feel better than on the computer, mainly due to vendor optimization.
After all, compared to professional cameras, the gap in sensor size is a short time for camera performance to catch up. This requires us to make some optimizations in software and take advantage of the small screen of mobile phones to make the viewer's brain think: " This photo is pretty good feeling.
Therefore, the performance of mobile phone photography is not based solely on the actual capabilities of the camera. Some thousand-level mobile phones want to take pictures and look good. They can be adjusted under their own hardware constraints, and they can have very good results.
What to do if you don't have sharpness, sharpen directly, and make the details look sharp. How to do if the color is not saturated enough, to an AI color filter, let your cell phone shoot photos instantly get "poison! German taste! Master! Learn!" Praise. But on a computer monitor, you will find that the transition sharpens the distorted picture, the oversaturated colors, and the smudge-like details.
In the MTF curve of some thousand yuan mobile phones, we can see that there is a "hump" phenomenon caused by sharpening (the higher the curve hump, the more sharpening), and the MTF50P value is significantly lower than the MTF50 value, indicating that there is a late-stage sharp Photo.
Unless the phone is really good at taking pictures, this situation may change, even if the color is not enough to watch on the phone. Taking the DXO photo is second to the P20 Pro's HTC U12+ example. Its MTF 50P value reaches 1294 LP/PH, which is almost the same as that of MTF50, meaning that there is almost no sharpening at the later stage and the resolution is excellent. This photo was equally satisfactory on a computer.
People don't necessarily like real things. Instead, they like to compare things that are whitewashed. For example, the very classic Huawei Leica color. In standard mode, Mate10 produces a very high level of color, and when the filter is turned on, the color starts to fly and goes to ΔE>18.6. Although the color is “running”, it is a deviation that makes people seductive, and it is shared on the circle of friends. Open filters will be praised more.
So on the premise that many low-end mobile phones still need to be optimized in the future, the perception of the mobile phone photos on the computer will not be too good. Because after magnification, sharpening, smearing and other post-processing defects appear naturally. Professional cameras such as SLRs also perform well on computers. This is because their resolution has been very good and there is no big difference when they are enlarged.
Why do the phone pictures look worse on the computer? It may not be the computer's pot, but your phone is deceiving you.
So, why do you look at the photos on your mobile phone? You can't bear to look at it on a computer. There are both reasons behind the computer and the reasons behind the mobile phone.
