Gilbert Genie
Gilbern Sports Cars Ltd was a joint venture between Giles Smith, a Welsh butcher, and Bernard Friese, a German engineer and ex-prisoner of war.
Their first car was launched in 1959 from a shed behind his butcher’s shop, an inauspicious start but one that quickly established the firm as one of the leading sports car makers of their time.
Named after the founders (GILes and BERNard), Gilbern established itself using a canny combination of a steel chassis, a fibreglass body and mechanical components taken from volume manufacturers like Austin-Healey, MG, and Ford. Designed for final assembly at home, a weekend’s work allowed its owner to dodge the purchase tax they’d otherwise have had to pay on their new car.
The second model launched was the Genie, like the one you see here. Offered between 1966 and 1969, a total of 197 examples were built. Powered by either the Ford 2.5-litre or 3.0-litre Essex V6, a square-section spaceframe chassis provided support for a bonded fibreglass bodyshell. The result is a light and stiff framework that provided a firm base for the suspension, which came from the Austin-Healey 3000 initially (which meant the car got wire wheels) and later the MGB, to do its stuff.
Two-plus-two seating and decent luggage space made it an effective family saloon, although that engine and suspension also conspired to provide a hugely enjoyable chassis and sparkling performance. How sparkling? Well, with 136bhp at its disposal, the Genie was a genuine 120mph car.

Oswald should have been more specific. Instead of telling Gil to shoot Oz, he should have said kill him. One little word and things would be completely different. Oswald just can't bring himself to kill Jack.

Caution: This post is utterly deranged
Hey! Mr Aladdin! I just rubbed your lamp and, let me tell you, your genie makes for a better fleshlight than a wish granter. I spent the last 20 minutes fucking the shit out of the lamp, and it felt great. My cock is so happy! Thank you, Mr Aladdin!

Heroes & Villains The DC Animated Universe - Paper Cut-Out Portraits and Profiles
Mister Mxyzptlk
An omnipotent imp from the Land of Zrff in the Fifth Dimension, Mr. Mxyzptlk (pronounced ‘mix-yez-spit-lick') became obsessed with a doomed effort to defeat Superman.  The imp had tinkered in the affairs of humankind for centuries, appearing in the form of genies, fairies and leprechauns.  When Superman arrived on Earth, Mxyzptlk saw the Man of Steel as an excellent challenge.
Superman was not amused by Mxyzptlk's antics and suggested to the imp that true challenge entails rules.   Mxyzptlk agreed and decided that, if Superman could get him to say, spell, or otherwise reveal his name backwards, the imp would leave the third dimension for ninety days.
For the next year, Superman tricked Mxyzptlk into revealing his backwards name almost immediately after seeing him, usually by playing dumb. Mxyzptlk became increasingly enraged and obsessive over Superman's constant victories.
Despite his easy handling of this pest, Superman grew tired of Mxyzptlk and wary of the damage that he could do.  As such he proposed a final game, which would rid him of the imp forever.  Mxyzptlk agreed to leave once and for all if Superman could get him to reveal his name backwards twice in a row. Superman pretended to have lost interest, which only infuriated Mxyzptlk.  The imp transformed himself into a missile with a Kryptonite warhead and chased Superman all over the sky.  Blinded by his anger and hubris,  Mxyzptlk was tricked into sky-writing his name backwards twice in a row.
Banished back to the Fifth Dimension once more, Mxyzptlk demanded he was not done with Superman and vowed to think up a loophole and one day return.
Actor/comedian Gilbert Gottfried provided the voice for Mr. Mxyzptlk with the imp first appearing in the eighth episode of the second season of Superman: The Animated Series, ‘Mxyzptlked.’

Once again I saw some really in-depth thoughts that just kill me by how theyre built on misunderstandings. Its a pain and embarrasing for me to have such a very very strong oppinnion on something ultimatelly meaningless, but its the truth which i wont deny to myself on my own blog...... This is going to be about hetalia so beautiful sophisticated mutuals please scroll by ...
Gilbert. The teuton. Prussia. It unbelievably unbelievably annoys me when he is headcanoned as being a converted baltic prussian. I think its an incredibly dense, and bordering on offensive, and just.. stupid of a theory.. I think its stupid as fuck. There are FAIR interpretations of it, that warp the mangacanon and build a very elaborate meta on how these immortal nationpeople come around, sure. I can grit my teeth in silence and respect the work, yet still it makes me chew my skin and roll my eyes to look back into my own skull ..
To start with my favouritest history, the genocide (!) of the baltic prussians, as they were fucking hated the teutons. And those (FEW! INCREDIBLY FEW!) who chose to convert/surrender were all, in the end, betrayed and germanified by that same ordin, shunned by the rest of the baltic prussians, who considered them traitors and didnt accept them returning. We know this. its not historical fiction, its chronicles and letters between germans poles lithuanians, its direct sources that say this. Children stolen and christianised more often than not still were seen as "feral", "mutts", "wild and foreign" by the germans, and very often ran away or rebelled or acted out in ways that doomed them to not ever integrate. There is a very famous and strong sentiment of "those forcibly baptised will not ever forget what was taken from them", rooted in reality and absolutely magnified in legend and story. For the biggest example, that some people also use somehow missing the entire point, is Herkus Monte- a baltic prussian child who was taken and christened, who was brought up as an exemplatory german, so much so that he was sent back to Prussia to help the knights and bishops, and then betrayed them almost imediatelly, uniting the tribes and fighting to his last strenghts to drive the teutonic hordes out.
Gilbert is an incredibly, incredibly bloodtbirsty man, as per canon portrayal. He is remorseless, and he is very close to christianity; for his acting out and "telling the Pope to piss off", it is still historically accurate to how the teutons believed themselves to be True and Correct harbringers of Deus Vult, God's Will, and the Pope who didnt endorse their ways a fraud. Gilbert is an imperialist, it bleeds perfectly into making him the man he is later. Gilbert sees his enemies - Lithuania, Tolys, and Poland, Feliks, as totally stupid and reasonless. He doesnt once think deeper about what he does- he dashes to kill them with a smile on his face and opportunistically, ambitiously he spoke of his correctness in every instance- for example, the battle on lake Peipus chapter! Gilbert is forefirst a teuton, and a german second, at that point of the story. He is a christian, he is a knight of divinity.
I just simply dont think an origin as a baltic prussian is fit for the man he is! Even if you say, "he is totally brainwashed and being raised like this since childhood erased anything else", it.. adds nothing! Its tragedy for sake of tragedy!
And my second historical gripe, is that the teutonic order didnt start with the northern crusades. They started with Jerusalem, and then aided Hungary; WHICH, IN THE MANGA CANON, GILBERT DOES! Gilbert's knightly adventures start in Hungary, before the order was kicked out of there in 1225! For reference,a wholy diffrent group of crusaders had already built a capital city in modernday Latvia and pillaging the locals since 1201, and the polish mosurians hadnt yet had the brilliant idea of asking the Pope for assistance in the war with baltic prussians.
To portray him as baltic is ahistorical, it to me geniuenly seems offensive (to give the personification of the enemy the background of of the genocided victims is something people were massivelly getting yelled at when they did it to Alfred, Matthew back so recently as in 2017..),but perhaps more convincingly just notttt canon to the source material. If Gilbert was a baltic prussian, he wouldntve met Erszébet when he does in canon; if Gilbert was a baltic prussian, then he is unfit to be the personification/leader/symbol of/idealised/adored by the knights. Which if he wasnt, he would not be a knight himself at all! Why give a positition of such importance when he isnt even really a german?
Its fucking bonkers! I bite my thumb at thee, I do! I know all best I can do is be polite (i want to believe that i am) and just not look at the content (I try not to, pretending it doesnt exist is bliss) , and yet. Its such a blood boiling idea in me. Its my own cycle of plague. Its an idea so pervasive in western fandom (trully, the russian and japanese side imagine him as an ostrogoth or a feral child of Germania himself if they do something about his pre-teutonic life, which imo is so much more based and cool and creative but ill disgress(<- lying)), why but of why is this popular. Keep your pruliet keep your pruspol i cant care about that anymore but make Gilbert a north german veteran of getting his ass beat in Jerusalem and Hungary... AAAAAAAAA

This sexy silver fox is best known for his character, firefighter-paramedic Roy DeSoto, on the 1972-77 NBC series Emergency!. But it's his appearance in K-9 (1989) where he bares his beefy bod that I remember him the most.

Twice married with one child and before his career took off, he spent time in the army. after Emergency! was canceled, he and co-star, Randolph Mantooth would remain close friends for decades and Tighe would serve as Mantooth's best man at his 2002 wedding. And there you go. That's all I can tell you about him. Except that there was a time where I would have happily jump into bed with him. But you guessed that already.

My DCCU: Character Essay - Mr. Mxyzptlk
So...did you see the last episode of MAWS?
Tumblr media
I just wrote an essay discussing this series, and without making you read that (although here it is if you wanna), let's just say I love almost everything about it, but the villains have me...nervous. Which, yeah, not exactly a unique take on the series, critically speaking. It is, in fact, the most common refrain about the series amongst Superman fans.
Tumblr media
Now, since then, to be fair, we've gotten some very promising characters make their debut, or becoming more prominent. Task Force X - which includes Amanda Waller, the General (who's gotta be Sam Lane, but may also take some inspiration from Wade Eiling; time'll tell on that one, though), and a very cool super-armored version of Deathstroke - are our main antagonists, and I'm excited to see what comes out of them. Their former associates, power couple Brain and Monseiur Mallah (who are also gay in the comics, if you didn't know) are a more sympathetic turn on the characters, but quite satisfying in this form.
But no, there's only one real reason I'm making this post. And that is of course, the villain featured in the most recent episode, as of me writing this post. He's already up above, so let's just get into it.
Tumblr media
Fun fact about me: I love a lot of Superman villains, but of all of them, my absolute favorite is Mr. Mxyzptlk. He's a mischief-making, chaos-loving, harmless and harmful menace from the 5th dimension, who obeys no laws of the dimensions below. The origin of legends, past and present, of genies, leprechauns, fey, and imps that tease men with ill-fated wishes. An all-powerful being disguised as a man dressed in a funny little hat.
Mr. Mxyzptlk is the Robin Goodfellow of Superman's world. He appears to amuse himself, no matter the cost to the Man of Steel's day. Usually, you can send him back via making him say his own name backwards, but that's just one of the rules to Mxy's games. And make no mistake, that's what they are: games. Mr. Mxyzptlk has played on the side of angels and devils, and he really only cares about his own amusement. And his relationship with Superman, varied as it can be, helps to fuel his morality.
Tumblr media
I could bring up the character's live-action appearances (which are notable in their own right), but those are mostly afraid to really go for it. The closest to the original character would be Michael J. Pollard's version in Superboy, a mostly forgotten series from the late'80s, and a version that actually wears the comic book outfit. There's also the Supergirl version, which was notable, and played by Peter Gadiot and Thomas Lemmon; and there's the version played by Howie Mandel (yes, really) in Lois and Clark: The Adventures of Superman in the '90s, which is a more evil but passable version of the character. Oh, and the Smallville version? Yeah, absolutely doesn't count. If you want a true adaptation for Mxy, you gotta go animated.
Tumblr media
The most iconic adaptation of this character was portrayed by the late, great Gilbert Gottfried in Superman: The Animated Series. Now, I say the most iconic, but that's probably a bit biased on my part. In my opinion, this is the most fun and accurate version we've seen of the character, taking from his original design for inspiration. An annoying imp that appears every three months, his debut episode in the series, Mxyzpixillated, is one of my favorite episodes of the series, and goes balls-to-the-wall wacky, as you should with Mxyzptlk.
The character had only a few more appearances in the series after his first, but Gottfried's performance was so memorable, he was brought back for multiple incarnations, including the video game DC Universe Online, and the more recent animated series Justice League Action, which would be one of Gottfried's last performances, and therefore his last appearance as the character. He'll be sorely missed for a number of reasons, but the voice he gave to the imp is never going to leave me.
Tumblr media
Which brings me to the version of the character we see in MAWS. And yeah, this is obviously a VERY different version of the character, appearance-wise. Outside of the orange and purple color scheme and one other exception, this version has no design similarities with any version of Mxyzptlk, and is obviously very anime-inspired, as is the entire series. I mean, for Chrissakes, the title of the episode is a reference to Ouran High School Host Club. They knew what they were doing.
Tumblr media
We meet Mxyzptlk in the middle of a heist, and he already shows his power and prowess by tricking Clark immediately. Amongst a bunch of fantastic DCU references, and a lot of multiverse talk, we eventually stumble upon his actual goal: the reclamation of an ancient artifact stolen from him by the League of Lois Lanes. And that artifact is...his hat. THE hat. And lemme tell ya, I was overjoyed to see that stupid little bowler.
Once he gets it, we get a glimpse of true Mxyzptlk power, as he goes full chaos lord on us. He's eventually defeated through trickery with portals, and NOT through the backwards name gambit. And even then, he's not actually defeated, and returns in the end to annoy his new target: Lois Lane. Yeah. He's haunting LOIS, not Clark. And honestly, I'm...very intrigued.
Tumblr media
This Mxyzptlk is, honestly, a faithful version of the character, straight-up. Sure, there are elements missing, and the outfit is completely different, but he also sort of looks like you'd expect an imp or genie to look. Like Alan Moore said in Whatever Happened to the Man of Steel?, why should an extradimensional imp look like a little man in a suit and funny little bowler? I think this works, honestly.
I'm also excited to see him in the future of the series, and see what they do with the character as a result. Mxyzptlk is, as I said earlier, one of my favorites, whether he helps or hurts the Man of Tomorrow. And if I had one complaint, it's that I want him to go wackier. Like, CRAZY. Watch his appearances in Superman: The Animated Series if you haven't, and you'll see what I mean. The potential is quite literally unlimited when it comes to the fifth dimension imp.
But if that's the case...what would I do with Mxyzptlk in my DCCU?
Tumblr media
Mr. Mxyzptlk in My DCCU
I would do...not much more than Easter eggs at first. Look, I love Mxyzptlk, but having him as a character in a film or film series is extremely tricky. But instead, Mxyzptlk is both a seen and unseen force in my DCCU, hovering around Superman's world without actually interfering in it directly. Not exactly his bag, I know, but it's a good way to get him to work in a film series. Essentially, I'm turning him into a background character in the first and second films, to be noticed by only the most observant. Disguised as other characters, maybe making odd gestures every now and then as if to manipulate things around him. The ultimate Easter egg character, basically. Until, possibly the very end of the second, or even the third film in the franchise.
Fast forward to the second film's post-credit scene.
Tumblr media
A poker game is being played, but we're table level. All we see are the hands and the cards, which get increasingly stranger as the game goes on. Three voices are speaking, and we get the immediate idea that these people are watching our heroes. Eventually, a fourth voice juts in, and we also find out that a fifth one of them has been invited, but chose not to attend. Finally, we pan up, and we see...some dude.
This guy, whoever they are, should've been a face we've seen in the first and second films, usually hanging around the Daily Planet, but also around Metropolis. In fact, they should be visible in every conflict or battle seen in the films thus far. As we look at the others, we should see similar figures that've appeared in Batman, Wonder Woman, and Flash films that've come put by this point. All extras, and all watching our heroes. In fact, it'd be great if the Flash-focused person hasn't appeared yet, because the Flash's film releases after this one.
Tumblr media
Finally, as we pan back around to the Superman-focused character, who is smoking a cigar, the conversation turns to what's coming. Mxyzptlk is aware of what's coming for Superman, but the rest refer to "the first Crisis". Mxyzptlk sort of brushes it off, even as they're saying things that hint at the first big even film to come in the DCCU. And these should be vague yet intriguing clues to this event. But Mxyzptlk insists that his guy'll be prepared, and that he has a lot of money riding on that outcome. With that, the mysterious figure looks directly at the camera.
Tumblr media
Yeah, realizing that we're peering in on the game, he probably berates the nerds in the audience for knowing who he is without it being said (possibly by turning into a more comic-accurate version of himself) , then confirms that he'll be back in the next one, but not as the big threat. Maybe he'll be there to help, maybe not; depends on his mood that day. After a few more snarky remarks, he gives us a look and tells us to buzz off. We may even get a glimpse at the other imps in the room, those being Bat-Mite, Wondermite, and Mopee. And with that, he snaps his fingers, and the film ends officially.
Tumblr media
Yeah, I basically pulled an Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania to bring in Mxyzptlk. And, since that scene is one of the best of the film, I don't think that's a problem! In the next film, we know what Mxyzptlk's identity looks like, and he may even give us a wave from the background in his first appearance in the next film. He won't interfere directly, but in the last post-credits scene of this trilogy, he'll finally get caught by Superman. Over time, Superman's had some experience with magic users, probably via Wonder Woman. And magic, in my universe, has a distinctive smell of some kind.
Knowing that Mxyzptlk's been watching him throughout the films, Clark finally confronts him on it, and asks what he wants. And Mxyzptlk actually replies and shows himself, explaining that the battles to come are pretty intense. He won't help or harm, but he just wanted to give a heads-up, mostly because it's fun. With that and a bit more conversation, Mxyzptlk leaves having given this ominous warning.
Tumblr media
Does he return? Maybe during a Crisis on Infinite Earths movie, maybe in the Darkseid-based Justice League film to come, who knows? This version of the character is basically a Watcher, maybe throwing in some fun chaos here and there. It's sort of hard to add Mxyzptlk into a film series, because he's not a plotter. He's an all-powerful one-off character who, were he to be introduced as a genuine threat to the films, could just kill Superman immediately. It wouldn't make sense. So, make him neutrally bent, and keep him as a fun Easter egg character.
That take may be disappointing to some, but...like, c'mon, guys, he's a pretty big gun. Having him as the ultimate threat of a film also wouldn't make it very fun, because we don't want to see him get killed, but he also can't really win. It'd just be unsatisfying. I like the idea of making him this greater, scarier presence, while also making all of the imps these all-powerful observant beings that watch over our plane with fascination and/or reverence. And maybe, just maybe, we can squeeze some mischief in there somewhere.
Any other ideas on how you would introduce Mr. Mxyzptlk to a cinematic universe (if you should at all)? Reblog! Comment! I'm extremely curious, frankly. This was one of, like, three ideas I had, but the one I thought worked best.
And if you liked this, check out my other Superman essays here!

I have finally watched Once Upon a Studio! Seeing all the disney characters was so exciting!!! I love how we get to see certain characters interact that we may never have even thought about before, like the dalmatian puppies and Chernabog XD
It's hard to pick my absolute favorite moments, so here are just the ones that I like in general XD
The men's room scene. Seeing all the boys getting themselves fixed up for the photo, and Gaston being his usual self. And Minnie covering her eyes when she came in!!! We have to protect her.
Kaa getting pan smacked by Rapunzel. That poor snake can't catch a break XD
That alien following Ursula all lovey dovey. I still need to see Disney's sci-fi movie, but that was adorable ^^
Prince Charming losing his shoe and trying to get Eric to stop Max! And then Cinderella encouraging Max XD I like to think that's a subtle nod to her being a dog person with Bruno (the dog, not the rat man XD)
Scars iconic "I'm surrounded by idiots..."!
GENIE!!! Rip Robin Williams.
Hades' "I knew this was gonna happen" proving once more how relatable he is XD
OSWALD!!!! MICKEY LETTING OSWALD GO FIRST!!!
This was just such a nice short to watch. I would absolutely sit down and watch a whole movie based on what happens at the studio after dark and all the shenanigans that entail ^^
YAYYY! You got to watch it!!!
All these moments were amazing, I loved them all too!! We love Minnie; she's a lady and respects the men's privacy! (Or maybe she's a lady who knows what she is and isn't willing to put with seeing XD Either way we love her), yes poor Kaa!! i feel like he has the same curse as Wile E Coyote XD (no body will let him eat!! 😭), omg Ursula going 'oh no no no' gave me so much serotonin XDD i have no idea what exactly is going on but it sure was funny XD (this woman used to be a scourge on the sea ☠) , YES!! THE CINDERELLA BIT!! i just love that they have fun together so much <3<3<3 they are legitimately cute as hell as a couple (and yes totally omg!! that didn't occur to me but y e s! Thank you, you're so right!! Cinderella's totally a dog person !!!), y e s XD i loved Scar's bit too XDD (i love that Jeremy irons came back for this), RIP Robin Williams ^^ and Gilbert Gottfried as well!! (This was the first time since 1992 Iago was not voiced by him. no i'm not crying), and of course Hades said that XD of courseee. reminds me of how he responded to Jafar's ridiculous evil laughter in Hercules and the Arabian Nights XD and...
YES. OSWALD. HOLY MOLY YES.

fell into a rabbit hole on youtube today (completely normal for me) and found a playlist of disney dvd game walkthroughs
and can i just say. i strive to achieve this level of camp
In the Snow White game, the magic mirror is lowkey snarky with the player, and says the Evil Queen "has ISSUES"
Timon and Stitch are for some reason in the Aladdin game ?
Gilbert Gottfried actually comes back just to voice Iago in the tour of the Genie's lamp (which includes references to Jungle Cruise, 20000 Leagues Under the Sea, and The Jungle Book)
Pumbaa and Timon's safari rides REGULARLY break the 4th wall ("where do we go? there's no arrows on the screen!")
Pumbaa and Timon ALSO create a ride (Virtual Safari 1.5) that parodies Pirates of the Caribbean, Mr.Toad's Wild Ride, Haunted Mansion, It's a Small World, and Expedition Everest/The Matterhorn Bobsleds like. Cinema!!!!
i also think it's really funny that every movie has a silly game EXCEPT for Beauty and the Beast & the straight-to-dvd Christmas sequel, where the stakes are SO HIGH, because if you don't complete the game, the curse will never be broken.
ANYWAY back to Timon and Pumbaa. guys they made Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. It's called Who Wants to Be King of the Jungle. It's amazing. Meredith Vieira is there. it's amazing.
