I don’t think people realize just how many have failed Kaiser since he was a child... (long rant post incoming, UTC)
I'm pretty illiterate in JP, but I get the gist and understand when speaking, so after running his profile data from his Egoist Bible page to make sure it wasn't vague or outright mistranslated bc shit happens, what stood out to me was what he said about his best and worst school subjects.
得意科目>授業なんてまともに受けてねぇ Tokui kamoku > jugyō nante matomo ni ukete nē Best Subject: I didn't take any classes seriously.
苦手科>学校行ってねえから知らん Nigate-ka > gakkō ittenēkara shiran Worst Subject: I didn't go to school, so I don’t know.
While this is a Japanese manga and, therefore, not likely to be extremely realistic, if we take it from a realistic point of view, Kaiser's past becomes a lot more tragic.
School is mandatory, and homeschooling is not allowed. It is very illegal to not send your child to school in Germany, so parents can be fined a hefty amount for not sending kids to attend. Repeat offenders also run the risk of facing prison time, and the police actually do go out of their way to find children who don't attend, and given their living situation, I don't think Kaiser's father would've run that risk. Especially when he, despite being an absolute garbage of a father, very specifically told Kaiser not to steal from people to avoid getting involved with authorities and, y'know, getting in trouble, and the kicker is that a few panels in the manga support the idea of Kaiser going to school to avoid that.
You see his bag? It's a bit reminiscent of schulranzen, basically a school bag, for German students, which most have because of social peer pressure. It's basically the norm to have one, and as a seemingly old man with no other family, Kaiser’s father doesn't seem to have a need for one, so he probably got it for Michael secondhand from someone else because they're quite pricey so he could go to school and sorta blend in without raising any questions.
Seeing as Kaiser never once spoke to his father, I think Kaiser would've had to take support or remedial classes early on as a child, which would excuse him from the regular classes as any school would be concerned for his development and try to help him meet academic standards there. Things like speech therapy and such would provide the reason as to why Kaiser says he didn't take his classes seriously and didn't go to school. I mean, if you just took supplementary classes, instead of going to the usual classes with your peers, would you really say or consider that going to school, given social norms? Especially with Kaiser's pride? Probably not.
I think this also explains his decent height and the miracle that is the fact that he is still alive. Being from a single-parent household with poor living conditions, I'm pretty sure Kaiser would qualify for free school lunches, which explains where in the world he got the proper nutrition to physically grow as normally as he did. Not to mention, attending school would mean that, at the very least, his father wouldn’t be able to beat him extremely or to death without repercussion. I mean, how the hell is the guy going to explain that?
He can brush off a bit of abuse as Michael being a mischievous kid often getting into trouble or something, sure, but for the kid that's constantly black and blue, to not go to school and suddenly perish? Eyebrows are going to be raised, and people will start talking and asking questions. Not to mention, prisoners are not kind to those who've done shit to children, so I would imagine Kaiser's father trying to avoid it as much as possible.
That being said, I still have a bone to pick with the people who would theoretically be teaching Michael. I mean, he definitely had to be taught a bit because how the hell else would this kid be able to pick up and understand something as complex as psychology by reading and taking notes to study within the short period of time that was him being in prison and taking part in the Bastard München tryouts?
Seriously, the fact that he had an acquaintance who framed and named him as an accomplice for burglary means there are enough legal records of Kaiser’s existence for police to narrow things down enough to find him. Try searching Michael Kaiser without specifying Blue Lock. That is a fairly common name! This guy had to have gone to school.
Anyways, why the hell did they not report his dad?
Like, Kaiser, may have been a quiet child, sure, but he also shows signs of being very avoidant and is usually battered up, all of which are signs of abuse so what is the excuse here?
"Maybe they weren't taught to recognize these signs or scared to make a report!"
But even then, you have to ask how many people over the course of his life saw him like that and didn’t say a thing? How many people saw this battered child in the streets on his own without a guardian in sight and just turned a blind eye? I know kids can go off on their own because it's a relatively safe country, but hello????
He's probably out there for hours trying to avoid his father or because his dad is out gambling and is out somewhere inebriated anyway! Why not ask the kid who's always out on his own some questions?
There had to have been a person who noticed! Like the people at the sandwhich shop who were nice enough to give him the leftover bread crust to make rusk! Because surely someone there would've gained his trust by giving him those?
But nope!
You know who else failed him?
That's right! Every single person he's interacted with from PIFA and Bastard München!
Ray Dark appears to be extremely suspicious, but here's the thing about him picking Kaiser up. He basically made a gamble, and Kaiser did as well. I say this because he is specified to be a PIFA agent, so I'm assuming this also makes him Kaiser's sports agent. Kaiser took the gamble because he didn't want to rot away with the life he had. That's obvious. Mr. Dark? He made a gamble in choosing to represent some random kid that he heard took down seven police officers.
But the thing is, he's a PIFA agent. He can do that with multiple players. It's less of a gamble for him because even if Kaiser doesn't make it big, well, he can still look for other talents to represent while leeching off their paycheck as well.
Honestly, the only good thing Kaiser has in his shitty life is the fact that he was born in Germany and is German.
The country has several laws to protect children, so they have several individual rights, which makes it more difficult for him to be taken advantage of since the bureaucracy and courts will have his best interest in mind. Especially given his situation as an underaged teenager at the time. He gets a good amount of say, and the laws have his best interest in mind, so he's pretty well-protected and would be challenging to take advantage of, legally speaking. At 14, he has the legal right to veto important decisions regarding himself, and he started playing at 15, so Kaiser is very safe now that he's away from his father.
Yet, no one has bothered to teach him this in his four years at Bastard München.
I really have to question what the hell is going on inside the higher-ups' heads here because this guy got into a fight his first day, and not a single one considered getting him therapy? This kid was scouted out for them and definitely has a record they can pull up to see.
Not to mention, since he got into the team, they probably sent him to a sportschulen or sports school to help develop his talent. Hell, with the studying he was doing in there, it appears that the team has their own for their underaged members because they're a German team. Formal education is compulsory for children from 6 to 18.
Sorry, Kaiser, I don't buy your "I didn't go to school" BS; you just had a non-traditional type and style of education, goofy.
Seriously, what the hell are the adults around him doing? He's been playing for the team for 4 years and is still in survival mode! Just look at the way Noel Noa looks after him. There is no hope for this guy. Everyone around him has failed to help him meet his basic emotional and psychological needs! Even Ness, who I will give a small pass to because he is equally as messed up to a different degree, was of no help in that sense because he just affirmed Kaiser's bad traits!
He's also in the do-or-die hellscape of Blue Lock now, and he does not need to be there. What he needs is to be locked in with a therapist for his own sake because, I swear, this guy is going to self-destruct in a bad way one day if he doesn't.
We see him do that mildly here when he says he thought he got over his father, but this guy hasn't gotten over anything and only feels that way because of the front he's put up. It currently works because no one has gotten in his head and made him highly vulnerable. Which, in turn, just makes him susceptible to having the biggest breakdown ever.
At this point, I'm begging. Someone help him. Please. He's just been screwed over his entire life. Do something.

薬師草[Yakushisō] Crepidiastrum denticulatum
It grows in sunny locations such as forest edges, often exceeds one meter in height. It produces flowers that resemble those of 岩苦菜[Iwanigana](Ixeris stolonifera) and 大地縛[Oojishibari](Ixeris japonica) in late autumn. Yellow stands out, so when it blooms in clusters, the forest appears brighter underneath under a clear sky.
It is not limited to daylight. As the air becomes clearer in the colder months, white and yellow flowers illuminated by moonlight appear to float vaguely in the darkness. As an aside, for a while to come, I like to take walks in nature at night, relying only on the moonlight.
薬師 means 薬師如来[Yakushi nyorai](Bhaisajya-guru, healing Buddha). By the way, the three sculptures called 薬師三尊像[Yakushi sanzon zō] have Yakushi nyorai seated in the center with 日光菩薩[Nikkō bosatsu] and 月光菩薩[Gakkō bosatsu] standing respectively on the side. 三尊 means Buddha triad, 菩薩[Bosatsu] means Bodhisattvas, 日光 means sun light, 月光 means moon light. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_National_Treasures_of_Japan_(sculptures)

Ryoko Kui Feb 2024 Famitsu interview on video games that inspired Dungeon Meshi

We had a talk with author of Dungeon Meshi, Kui Ryōko-sensei just about the games
The manga Dungeon Meshi has reached its conclusion in its 14 volumes. Its author, Kui Ryōko, turns out to be quite a game fan! We asked her to be interviewed for this special feature, to which she kindly agreed to. The extent of her gamer spirit is beyond imagination… We are pleased to present this valuable interview with a number of compelling titles.

PROFILE
Kui Ryōko has been active as a dōjinshi artist on pixiv and Comitia, and made her debut in March 2011 with Ryū no Gakkō wa Yama no Ue Kui Ryōko Sakuhinshū “The School of Dragons is on the Mountain – Kui Ryōko’s Anthology”. In 2012 she published Kui Ryōko Sakuhinshū Ryū no Kawaii Nanatsu no Ko “Kui Ryōko’s Anthology: Seven Sweet Kids of the Dragon” and in 2013 won the 17th Japan Media Arts Festival Manga Division Excellence Award with Hikidashi ni Terrarium “Terrarium in Drawer”. In 2014 Dungeon Meshi started its serialisation in Harta (Kadokawa) magazine, with serialisation ending in September 2023. A total of 14 volumes of the manga are currently on sale.
Playing "Wizardry 6", I thought to myself, "I want to draw stories and drawings like this"
My formative experience with games was with “Wizardry” my father used to play
- This time, rather than talking about Dungeon Meshi, I would rather like to talk with you about video games, as I heard that you are quite fond of them.
Kui-sensei: I may be biased [about games she likes, I guess], but I’m looking forward to this interview.
- When I first read Dungeon Meshi, I felt that its setting where a party consisting of characters like a human, an elf, a dwarf and a so-called hobbit venture deep into the dungeon was reminiscent of a classic fantasy RPG.
Kui: That's right. My father played various games on the NES console, starting with "Wizardry", and that was great entertainment for us, so it might have been something like a formative experience [in gaming, I guess] for me. When I was a child, these games were too difficult for me to play by myself. However, as I was growing up I started thinking, "I liked the atmosphere of that game" and "I want to draw something with that kind of atmosphere” and that was probably what inspired me.
- Did you watch your father play games?
Kui: A lot. Among the various games, “Wizardry" was a bit different from the fun-to-watch games like "Dragon Quest", "Ultima" and "Fire Emblem”. Its first-person perspective with the continuously identical scenery made it seem like a rather plain game to my childish mind. However, I also remember finding great enjoyment in the monster illustrations found in its strategy guides and stared at them for hours on end.
- Yes, the strategy guides had illustrations that you couldn't see in the game itself.
Kui: Growing up, I started playing RPGs and other games by myself, but because of times like taking entrance exams and when I started living on my own, I distanced myself from games for a while.
- Yes, that's right. Many people have experiences like that, don't they?
Kui: I started playing games again when the serialization of Dungeon Meshi was decided. Learning that "Wizardry" itself has various influences from other works, I felt I should depict [my work] with a good understanding of those currents. So, while checking out computer games and TRPGs, I ended up exploring various works.
- So. you started studying games because of Dungeon Meshi.
Kui: I also liked novels like "The Neverending Story" and "The Lord of the Rings", so I was already familiar with fantasy. However, I hadn't really thought about why similar terms appear in games here and there, so I thought to myself, "Come to think of it, why is it like that?"
- So, from there, the world expanded. Regarding the title Dungeon Meshi, and there is also the English title which is “Delicious in Dungeon”, I assumed it was a nod to "Dungeons & Dragons".
Kui: The English title was actually chosen by my editor, and indeed, as far as I heard, it was consciously referencing "D&D." In fact, I only became aware of tabletop RPGs as an adult. When researching the history of games, you inevitably come across the name "Dungeons & Dragons". So, I read rulebooks and replay novels, and even played some computer RPGs based on "D&D". Since I didn't have anyone to play it with at the time, I feel like I haven't fully experienced it compared to people who have played it extensively.
- Earlier you mentioned that you had dabbled a bit with PlayStation and such. Are there any games that left a lasting impression on you?
Kui: That would probably be "Final Fantasy VII." The "Final Fantasy" series had amazing graphics, and I remember being amazed each time a new game came out, thinking, "Is this the limit of graphical evolution?"
In games, even seemingly unnecessary things can bring joy just by being there
- You mentioned that since the serialization of Dungeon Meshi started around 2014 you began playing various games. For this interview, your editor provided us a list of games you enjoy in advance. Looking at that list, it seems quite diverse. You mentioned you started playing games for manga research purposes, but do you remember the first game you played specifically for research?
Kui: I bought it more for study and learning, but the first one was "Legend of Grimrock." "Dungeon Master" was famous as an RPG where you eat meals, so I wanted to play it, but the hassle of playing it on an actual machine was too much [for me]. That's why I played "Legend of Grimrock," which is heavily influenced by "Dungeon Master." Without the serialisation [of Dungeon Meshi], it was probably the type of game I wouldn't have played. But the volume [of content] and difficulty were just right, so that I had that satisfying feeling of completing the game, becoming a good memory for me. Being able to play with modern graphics in first-person dungeon ambience also served as a good reference. I feel this prompted me to start playing various games.
- "Legend of Grimrock" was quite a challenging title, especially for those who hadn't played games in a while…
Kui: The basic rules weren't overly complicated. However, at first, I didn't realize it was an action game, so I would just stand still and get beaten up. Once I understood to use good timing to dodge enemy attacks and strike during openings, it became enjoyable. It hasn't been translated into Japanese, but since there isn't much text, I played the English version.
- And from there, you started playing various games.
Kui: I used to feel a bit apprehensive about games than were not turn-based RPGs, but I decided to stop being prejudiced and try out any games that looked interesting. As I played games like "Red Dead Redemption 2" and "God of War," I found their stories intriguing and gradually became more and more hooked.
- While continuing the serialisation, you even played games...
Kui: "Red Dead Redemption 2" was an incredibly well-crafted game. I wanted to talk about it with someone, so I convinced my editor and other mangaka to buy it too. [I liked it] so much. I'm grateful that such a game exists.
- It was right up your alley in terms of preferences.
Kui: To be honest, at first, it felt a bit "meh." Not being able to run in the camp, the animations for picking things up or skinning animals, all these little things annoyed me a bit. I wondered if sacrificing playability for realism was just the creators imposing their preferences. However, as I played more and more, I noticed the NPCs changing their actions according to their schedule, finishing their meals properly and the protagonist getting progressively dirtier... All these accumulated details led to an extraordinary sense of immersion. Besides that, the story was good, and the music was wonderful too. It was clear that a huge budget and a large team were involved, and ultimately, I played the game in awe of the high level of its ambition. While there are differences in the creation process between games and manga, and therefore making it hard to imitate, it made me reflect on my own approach to creativity.
- Have you played any other big, content-rich games?
Kui: Talking about a recent game, "Starfield" was interesting. Since I played it without any prior information, I didn't understand the controls at first. But as I continued playing, I became engrossed in the very familiar Bethesda-Softworks-feel. Bethesda games are always open-handed and have a [certain] charm.
- You don’t play many so-called games for all ages, that is games one can enjoy with their family?
Kui: I do play the ones that catch my interest. I played "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" and "Tears of the Kingdom" as well. When "Breath of the Wild" was released, it was quite difficult to buy a Nintendo Switch, so my editor for Dungeon Meshi said I should play it and lent me his console and the game.
- Speaking of big titles, "Cyberpunk 2077" is also listed as one of your favourite games.
Kui: I had been interested in it since the teaser trailer was released in 2013. Later, in 2015, "The Witcher 3" was released and it was really great. I thought, "CD PROJEKT RED is amazing, if they're making [“Cyberpunk 2077”], it can't go wrong." The [Japanese] localisation of "The Witcher 3" was truly meticulous and wonderful. I was impressed, thinking that this localisation wasn’t something than can just be done with translators’ skills, but needs the active cooperation of the development company. "Cyberpunk 2077" was also really amazing. The DLC was interesting too, and it became one of my favourite works.
Top-down perspective games make it easier to immerse oneself in their world
- It seems "Disco Elysium" was so fun for you that it got a 超 *chō* remark [in the list sent by your editor (*chō* meaning ultra, hyper etc; that is, she likes it very much].
Kui: I like top-down, text-based games the most. I'm not very interested in combat [-focused games] though. "Disco Elysium" doesn't have any combat to begin with, and its story is intriguing, with charming character interactions. It was a type of game I had never played before, and adding to that it is a top-down, text-based [game]... Everything matching my preferences, [made] it a very enjoyable game for me.
I like games that don’t just include character dialogues but descriptions of sceneries and monologues too
Kui: It had been a hot topic overseas for a long time, but because of the large amount of text and me thinking it was unlikely to ever be translated into Japanese, I gave the oversea’s [English, I assume] version a go. However, I found it quite difficult. Then, Spike Chunsoft localised it [into Japanese]. I was so happy.
- Speaking of top-down fantasy RPGs, there's also the "Baldur's Gate" series. The latest installment, "Baldur's Gate 3," was also localised and released by Spike Chunsoft.
Kui: "Baldur's Gate’s” first two installments were one of the games I played for the [research for my] serialisation [of Dungeon Meshi]. I was surprised to hear that Larian Studios, from which I also played the "Divinity" series [of course, for research purposes], acquired the license [of BG] and were making the latest installment. When the early access version for PC was released with the first chapter, I played it right away, but as expected, I found it difficult to concentrate on the story in English. However, when I heard a Japanese version was coming out, I was like: "Thank you as always, Spachun-san [cute nickname for Spike Chunsoft]!" If games like these sell well, it makes me happy because it could lead to the localisation of other titles, like "Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous"...
- What is the reason you like top-down perspective [games] in the first place?
Kui: I like them because they often include descriptive text. It's not just about character dialogue; I enjoy the inclusion of description of sceneries and monologues too. When there's descriptive text, even when the graphics are slightly rough, it allows me to feel things like the wind or smell and supplements the subtle behaviours of other characters. It makes it easier to immerse myself in the world when there is a description like, that cave is dark and damp, or a description of the nuanced behaviour or state of mind of the characters.
- The broader the perspective, the greater the imagination, probably.
Kui: Games like that also offer many choices. Seeing the consequences of your own choices makes you feel more involved in that world. For instance, being disliked by your companions and them leaving you (laughs). I think this interaction is the wonderful aspect of games that manga and movies cannot replicate.
- You seem to enjoy a wide range of genres. Where do you get your information about them?
Kui: I check game media and official websites. I look into games that people say are interesting or those that are localised in Japanese. When I want to know the release date of a specific game, I also check social media.
- It seems you also enjoyed "Unpacking" and "House Flipper." Do you like games that involve neatly arranging items and tidying up?
Kui: I do enjoy cleaning games. Recently, "Unpacking" was great because just neatly arranging items sparked my imagination. As you sort [the items], you start to be able to guess the personality of the room's owner. It’s meticulously crafted with attention to detail. Before its release, I was intrigued when I heard that it is a game about organizing items, and when I tried it out, I really liked the sound effects, and it was much more fun than I expected it to be. As long as you don't put items in the wrong rooms, there aren’t really many correct or wrong places to put them, so you can create your ideal layout. After you finish arranging everything, you can watch an animation of your playthrough. I’d sip tea watching [the replay] and think, "This room really is wonderful" (laughs). There are no plans for a sequel, but I would love to play one.
- Do you also sip tea while admiring the rooms you create in "House Flipper"?
Kui: In "House Flipper," the cleaning part is particularly enjoyable for me, so I often just place the required furniture half-mindedly. Cleaning up all the dirt brings me a sense of calm. I'm also playing "House Flipper 2," and it's just as fun.
Depiction in "Wizardry 6" enabled me to enjoy the feeling of exploration
- The genre changes a bit; "Return of the Obra Dinn" is also listed as a favourite game.
Kui: The game "Papers, Please" created by the developer Lucas Pope was the first title I played and recognized as an indie game. It is profoundly memorable for me and I was really looking forward to the new work. And as I thought, "Obra Dinn" was also fun. The music is good, its got an atmosphere and the puzzles were just right.
- I certainly was surprised by the animation that flowed smoothly with sketching-like graphics.
Kui: In 2014, when the demo version was released, I was wondering what kind of game it would turn out to be. The final product was really interesting.
- Picking up the heavily interactive adventure game "Immortality" appears to be for the same reasons, correct? It seems you also enjoyed "Her Story," another creation by the same developer, Sam Barlow, where the story unfolds through video and changes based on player choices.
Kui: Both games were quite interesting. I was taken on unexpected journeys, with a mysterious touch. Their structure of interacting with live-action videos blurred the line between reality and the game, creating a strange sensation. It was chilling to be stared at by characters within the video. It was a powerful experience.
- You seem to enjoy works where the story changes based on player intervention.
Kui: It simply makes me happy when I see the consequences of my own choices.
- Since the serialization of Dungeon Meshi began and you started doing research on games, what game would you say has influenced your own story?
Kui: About that, although it's not a recent game, it is probably "Wizardry 6". In it, there's a pen named Cosmic Forge that turns whatever is written with it into reality. Long ago, this pen was contended over by a king and an evil sorcerer, leading to the destruction of an ancient castle. Now, new adventurers have infiltrated this castle... And that’s how the story goes. I got excited just by these few sentences. As NES became Super NES, graphics evolved too; the details like dust accumulating, broken furniture etc. were so well depicted. You could really enjoy the feeling of exploration. That is when I thought, "If I could draw stories and drawings like this…"

- Dungeon Meshi is being adapted into an anime and is currently airing to great acclaim. The anime is handled by TRIGGER, the same studio that created "Cyberpunk: Edgerunners," which is based on the "Cyberpunk 2077" a game that you also love.
Kui: Regarding "Edgerunners," when I heard that this game I like is getting an anime adaptation, I was worried about watching it, thinking, "What if it's not the Night City I love?". However, when I mustered up the courage to watch it, I found that it [meshed] both the essence of "Cyberpunk 2077" and the unique style of TRIGGER very well.
- Have you seen the completed version of the Dungeon Meshi anime?
Kui: I haven't properly watched it yet (the interview was conducted in December 2023), but I had the opportunity to observe the voice recording sessions. It was really amazing, but I felt embarrassed hearing the voice actors bring so much emotion to the lines I wrote… Senbongi Ayaka’s [should be Sayaka, probably a spelling mistake] screams as Marcille were fantastic, but somehow it made me want to run away out of embarrassment. If it weren't my own work, I would have been able to enjoy it wholeheartedly. As for the production, I made a few requests on how I wanted certain things done, but for the most part, I've left it to TRIGGER-san.
- As a game fan, it's also fascinating that the music for the anime is being handled by Mitsuda Yasunori, who has composed music for many games.
Kui: I played "Chrono Cross" after I got my parents to buy the game for me. The opening song and graphics were so amazing that I watched them on repeat. Knowing that Mitsuda-san is in charge of the music for the anime is deeply moving for me.
- The original series concluded with the 14th volume, and the sketchbook "Daydream Hour" was also published. Once things settle down, you'll probably have some time to thoroughly enjoy playing games. Are there any titles you're particularly looking forward to in 2024?
Kui: I enjoyed "Cloudpunk," so I'm looking forward to "Nivalis" in 2024, although I'm not sure if it's coming out then [both games have the same German developer Ion Land, still not published as of 1. July 2024]. I'm also excited about "Avowed" [also not released].
- As a gamer, I can't help but fantasise about a Dungeon Meshi game being made.
Kui: In games, eating is often reduced to a task for buffs or debuffs, which tends to make it feel tedious. If it were made into a game, it would need to make this aspect interesting. However, I started Dungeon Meshi wanting to depict the parts that games typically omit, so developing a game based on it would indeed be quite challenging.
- If it were a hardcore "Wizardry"-style game, what would you do?
Kui: Play from Laios's point of view. Not eating means death. It sounds like it would be fun to play (laughs).

Some of them were also in the interview, but the list of games that Kui-sensei enjoys that we got beforehand [from her editor] is quite vast. Excluding titles illustrated on page 23 like "The Elder Scrolls" [Skyrim, because Ancano, that Thalmor bastard in the College of Winterhold’s questline, was depicted on the page 23] "Dragon Age," "Pillars of Eternity," and the "Pathfinder" series, here are just a few selected titles we didn't have time to delve into during the interview! If any of these catch your interest, feel free to investigate them further.

Both of their desire was to fight each other.
Sasuke mentioned that he knew Naruto wanted attention, so he did idiotic things to get attention from others and he also searched for connection. Maybe Sasuke also knew that Naruto wanted attention from him. "I want to fight you" & "I acknowledged you".... these were the words he desired to hear from Sasuke. Sfx: ドキン means a heavier notion of *doki* or describe one's heart skipping a beat.
When that moment Sasuke said, "Naruto, I want to fight you too"..... He truly felt happy. Because Naruto himself says that he admires him and wants to be like him. So when he heard what Sasuke says he acknowledged his skill and he acknowledged Naruto , he felt glad. The only person he has always admired has now acknowledged him. It was his desire and his desperation to become Sasuke's equal and be friends with him. Because his Bond with Sasuke was what he always longed for.
Naruto also motivated by Sasuke's acknowledgement and trained very hard to face him in the Chunin Exams.
He also got existed by the anticipation of fighting sasuke... 「キュン」 Kyun is a common onomatopoeia in Japan when you fall in love and also used for feeling spark or thrill in one's heart. SFX for momentary tightening of one's chest caused by powerful feelings Or to have butterflies. 「ゾクゾクする」 zokuzoku suru- Thrilling is an expression for shaking, to get chills, to be shaking as from joy or excitement Or having tingling sensation (excitement). In here tightening (Kyun) happening in his lower abdomen.
This is what Naruto said:
Raw: 何だ... にの気持ち下腹の辺りがキュンとする それに…ゾクゾクする
Romaji: nanda... Kono kimochi shita bara no atari ga kyun to suru Sore ni… zokuzoku suru
Literal: "What... is this feeling? My lower stomach feels tight/feels butterflies! And... I feel a thrill/shivers."
This expression uses when butterflies take flight in your stomach when you're sexually aroused. It is that feeling in your stomach when you get turned on. But what can I do? This is what Kishimoto wrote in his manga. So I can't avoid it (it was his long time dream [to fight Sasuke and show him his skills] and now it's happening...). I only pointed it out because it was all connected to their fight.
(( I'm not sexualizing a 12 year old kid [character]. I'm just pointing out what's written in the manga. That's all.))
It reminds me of Sasuke's reaction (shivering) when he seeing Naruto summoning Gamabunta. Sfx used in here was 「ゾクゾクッ」 Zokuzoku. 「ッ」 added to make the onomatopoeia "stronger". Zokuzoku means - , to feel chills, to feel tingling, to tremble/ shaking with tension, fear, nervousness or excitement.
Sasuke himself said how he felt when he saw Naruto with that tremendous power..... And also.... How did Naruto become so strong, how could he become as strong as him, he trained with this in mind.

Literal: I... I wasn't able to do anything...

[[ "信じられない" is a more surprising expression. What Sasuke means : "Comparing Naruto from when he was at the academy to now.... I can't believe his incredible growth. How much he has grown from what everyone called a "failure" to this incredible growth."]]

Literal: I... How can I get stronger... (What should I do to get stronger)
After that he went to see kakashi for training... even though he was jealous of Naruto's growth.... but when he heard that Itachi came to the Village and looking for Naruto.... he desperately went to look for Naruto. So, Sasuke really wanted to do something... he wanted to train with Kakashi to become stronger, he wanted to mind his own business.... but the thought of Naruto always distracted him. That's why when he heard Itachi looking for Naruto, he instinctively went to save him from Itachi.
In the 'Forest of Death', when Naruto arrives, Sasuke wanted Naruto to run away from that place ASAP because Orochimaru was scary and so powerful. Sasuke suddenly gave up the scroll and abandoned his goal of passing these rounds of the Chunin Exams.
You know what, he could have given up the scroll when Orochimaru cast a killing intent at him and Sakura. He clearly saw Sakura was trembling in fear in front of Orochimaru. But he didn't. But he decided to give up only after Naruto came on the scene.
He was yelling "Run away Naruto" the whole time. That disappointed Naruto as well. It was Sasuke who taught him not to run away and not to be afraid of the enemies. Whatever happens you must be face them. That's why Naruto protected him from the attack of Orochimaru and called him a 'scaredy Cat'.
We know how scared Sasuke was when they were fighting Zabuza. Here too he got scared and ran away from Orochimaru because he didn't want to die.
But that only changed after Naruto's action.... he pointed out Sasuke getting scared and running away from it like a coward. "There's no way.... such a stupid coward like you is the Sasuke I know!!" After that (listening to his words) Sasuke decided to fight back without running away again and face the enemy. (It wasn't because of Sakura's words that Sasuke decided to fight. She just gives a push and that's it).
If you look back at the context of why Sasuke decided to give up the scroll….. Why he was giving up his goal there? Why was he acting like an idiot ? Why didn't he think that if he gave Orochimaru the scroll what was the guarantee that Orochimaru would let them go?
Because when it comes to Naruto "Sasuke's body move on it's own". Do you think Orochimaru was an idiot who didn't notice all this? Right from the start.... As they entered the forest of death.... Orochimaru's plan failed one by one because he used Naruto's disguise. Sasuke saw through his disguise... Like... he can tell the correct angles of his whiskers if it's slightly different from the original. When he was with his teammate he attacked him directly and he ran away from him, but Sasuke never considered giving up the scroll. But when the Naruto kid appeared in front of them, Sasuke quickly give up the scroll. He listened to Naruto's words and fight Orochimaru without any fear of death... even though he knew he couldn't defeat him. If Naruto was in danger…. Sasuke would overexert his body to use his last chakra…. even if it cause him in great pain.
When they are in the Forest of Death with Kabuto.... Even though the curse seal hurting him… he risked it and used his last chakra to help Naruto.
when Naruto was fighting against Gaara, even though he was exhausted and his body was hurting.... when he saw that Naruto was in danger, he tried to get up to help him.
In forest of the death Sasuke's emotions were overflowing. The main reason he gave up the scroll was to keep Naruto out of harm's way. And his heart was hardly pounding as he watched Naruto get hurt. ドクン - The way (or sound) of the heart beating strongly. Shape of his eyes, the inclination of his eyebrows are effective yet simple way to express his emotions. Look at his facial expression in the second 「ドクン」.... Sasuke was so hurt to see Naruto being beaten.
Because he's the one who said; " Every time I see you appearing to be suffering. . . I become pained"
His heart beat again when Naruto called back him 'scaredy cat'. ドクン used in here means 'When you are extremely surprised and feel your heart beating strongly'.
Then Sasuke taunts Naruto in the vote about that interrupted fight. Naruto felt really happy when Sasuke invited him to fight him at the hospital that time....but he didn't know that Sasuke was fuming inside. Naruto clearly regrets it. “That wasn't the fight I wanted. even now... "
Even now...he didn't want to fight....they were both hurting equally. This is not what either of them wanted.
He went to Orochimaru layer in order to not obtain power by killing Naruto. If you haven't already established such strong feelings, it is not possible to gain the Mangekyou Sharingan. That whole fight started out as a way to get MS, but then it turned into his desperate attempt to sever his bond with Naruto, which could only be severed by killing him because it was that powerful. But...No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't cut his bond with Naruto. Sasuke leans into his face to say goodbye to him by being closer to him for one last time. He painfully says goodbye for the last time and it hurts him a lot because he knows that it is not easy to leave his 'precious' person who has become a part of him and he hurt him so much during the fight.
Naruto tells him in vote1 and vote2 that this wasn't the fight he wanted because they were both hurting each other… This wasn't the fight Naruto wanted when Sasuke tries to hurt himself. This was not a fight about who wins or loses. This was never about beating the shit out of each other. It is about acknowledging the strength of the others as an equal. It's something that their heart wanted to do from the start. They had to fight their feelings throughout the fight. They cannot live without the other, they cannot bear to see the other one suffer, they always wanted to stay close to each other sharing happiness and pain in their hearts.

One of only eight land-locked prefectures in Japan, Tochigi prefecture is famous for gyoza and strawberries. It is also home to Japan's oldest school of higher education, the Ashikaga Gakkō, and is home to the Tōshō-gū shrine, dedicated to the shogun who unified Japan, Tokugawa Ieyasu, in the city of Nikkō.
Tochigi lies just north of Tokyo, and is accessible in less than an hour by bullet train. Nasu is the location of one of the imperial family's villas, and hot springs near Nasu and Shiobara mountains are popular resort spots. In the southeast of Tochigi, the town of Mashiko is renowned for its simple but highly prized ceramics.

Nikkō is closely associated with Tokugawa Ieyasu, who unified the country after a century of warfare and founded the Tokugawa shogunate. Ieyasu retired and then passed away in present-day Shizuoka Prefecture, and was laid to rest at Kunōzan. In 1617, his remains were moved to Nikkō and he was deified as the protector of the eight Kantō provinces.
Ieyasu’s remains were reinterred at the temple Rinnōji in Nikkō, and his successor Hidetada erected the Tōshōsha in his honor. The third Tokugawa shogun Iemitsu had great respect for Ieyasu and ordered the original shrine renovated, having the country’s most skilled artisans create the richly decorated buildings that stand today. The work was completed in 1636, and nine years later the imperial court bestowed the name Tōshōgū on the shrine.
Nikkō Tōshōgū boasts eight buildings designated as national treasures and thirty-four structures selected as important cultural properties. Some of these impressive cultural properties include the 9.2-meter-tall stone torii marking the entrance and the five-storied pagoda nearby, as well as the Yōmeimon, a richly decorated gate with over 500 carvings depicting fables and saints. This magnificent gate holds an ancient superstition, which said that completing it might lead to the collapse of the Tokugawa regime. To avoid this, the builders installed one of the twelve supporting pillars upside down, thus insuring that it remained incomplete.

“Utsunomiya Gyoza” is an important part of the culinary culture of Utsunomiya City. The city has over 300 gyoza restaurants, and queuing in front of your favorite restaurant or visiting multiple restaurants is quite common. The restaurants compete to create unique recipes in order to be recognized as the best gyoza in the city. You can even join gyoza-making classes led by top chefs. There is also a gyoza association called the Utsunomiya Gyozakai that holds an annual festival in the beginning of November.

Mangá
Criado e ilustrado pela mangaká Kyomi Ogawa (小川京美) e supervisionado pela associação de folclore japonesa (日本民話の会) é um mangá infantil que possui ao todo 12 volumes e foi serializado na revista mensal Comic bunbun (コミックブンブン), sendo o primeiro volume lançado em 10 de setembro de 2004 e o último em 1 de setembro de 2009.
O mangá foi comercializado apenas no Japão e na Indonésia, no Japão ele teve todos os 12 volumes enquanto na Indonésia tiveram apenas 5 volumes que foram distribuídos pela Elex Media Komputindo no ano de 2007, o mangá nunca recebeu nenhum tipo de tradução muito menos chegou a ser comercializado no Brasil.
O mangá é classificado como dos gêneros: terror, comédia e supernatural. o público alvo de acordo com o site da Poplar, editora responsável pela revista, é de crianças de aproximadamente 6 anos de idade.
A história consistia em basicamente histórias curtas de terror, algumas tendo final em aberto e tirinhas de comédia de 4 painéis para amenizar o clima de terror
Anime (OVA)
Em 2005 o mangá recebeu uma adaptação em animação tendo 10 episódios cada um com aproximadamente 9 minutos de duração.
Recebeu uma fita VHS nos anos de 2005 e 2006 e posteriormente um DVD no ano 2007.
O tema de encerramento foi adicionado no ano de 2008 e as edições de 2008 e 2009 continham a abertura do anime “Fushigi Tsuushin: Toilet no Hanako-san” (ふしぎ通信トイレの花子さん) como um bonus, esse outro anime foi cancelado e nunca foi ao ar.
O anime foi exibido na Kids Station em 15 de agosto de 2008 as 19:30 e em 25 até 27 do mesmo mês as 20:30.
No ano de 2009 o anime recebeu um tema de abertura animado por Izuki Imazaki e Shinji Katahira e os episódios de 2005 a 2007 foram reeditados para serem transmitidos.
Jogo
Em 17 de Julho de 2008 a empresa Compile Heart lançou um jogo de terror e aventura baseado no mangá para Nintendo DS, o preço do jogo era de 5.040 ienes (incluindo taxas).
A história do jogo se tinha como ponto principal a investigação do sumiço de um colega do protagonista.
O jogo incluía 40 histórias baseadas nas histórias do mangá.

Na época que o mangá foi serializado tiveram alguns brindes da revista que foram um estojo de lata e uma assinatura da criadora, não se tem muitas informações sobre esses mas eles tem sua existência confirmada.

New music Wednesday
Hakushi Hasegawa, singer-songwriter from Japan, offers a wild sonic journey in this third album, Mahōgakkō (Magic School). This half-hour experience show glitches of folktronica, nu jazz, and art pop, creating a meticulously crafted kaleidoscope of sensory-rich rhythmic attacks. The album features chipmunk-pitched voices in a dizzying yet serene soundscape, with percussion textures set to the pace of speed metal. The result is magic.

Keeping up with the Todorokis or, just me observing the Todorokis (Anime version): Ep. 10
So this is nothing else but a collection of informations, series by series, episode by episode about how the Todorokis appear in it, especially compared to the manga.
Ep. 10 Encounter with the Unknown (未知との遭遇 Michi to no Sōgū)

This episode goes back on giving us solely quick glimpses of Shouto but also a tiny bit of action.
First of all we've Shouto's explanation of what's going on.
The anime takes advantage of how Shouto needs the time to give his whole long speech to show us more glimpses of him. It's noteworthy that they showed him frontal where the manga preferred to show him from behind so as to put the focus on what he was looking. The anime didn't need to do it as it could alternate the scenes and insert more of them.
Shouto's dialogue remains the same.
Todoroki Shōto 'Arawareta no wa koko dake ka gakkō zentai ka… nanni seyo SENSOR ga hannō shineenara, mukō ni sō iu koto dekiru "kosei" (read: YATSU) ga irutte koto da na. Kōsha to hanareta kakuri kūkan, soko ni shōninzū (read: CLASS) ga hairu jikanwari... BAKA da ga AHO ja nee. Kore wa nanrakano mokuteki ga atte yōi shūtō ni kakusaku sa reta kishūda.' 轟焦凍「現れたのはここだけか学校全体か…何にせよセンサーが反応しねぇなら、向こうにそういうこと出来る〝個性〟(ヤツ)がいるってことだな。校舎と離れた隔離空間、そこに少人数(クラス)が入る時間割...バカだがアホじゃねぇ。これは何らかの目的があって用意周到に画策された奇襲だ。」 Todoroki Shōto "Are they just here, or in the whole school? Either way, if the sensors aren't reacting, then that means there's a quirk (read: guy/bastard) over there that can do that. An isolated space away from the school building, and a timetable with a small number of students (read: classes) in it. It's stupid, but not foolish. This was a deliberate and well-planned surprise attack with some kind of purpose."
Then we sadly move to the tiny glimpses.
There's one as Eraser Head tells Thirteen what to do.
Then there's another as the students start to leave.
Then one more as Kurogiri's Quirk starts to send the students away.
The anime cut the scene of Shouto moving apart from the others...
They however transposed Shouto capturing the Villains faithfully enough, they only added a bit showing Shouto's ice advancing but the part showing Shouto is the same though, if you want, Shouto's pose in the manga is a tiny bit more dynamic.
The anime also kept unchanged this tiny bit of dialogue.
Todoroki Shōto 'Kodomo hitori ni nasa ke nē na. Shikkari shiro yo, otona daro?’ 轟焦凍「子ども一人になさけねぇな。しっかりしろよ!大人だろ?」 Todoroki Shōto "You lost to a single child, huh. Come on! You’re adults.”
