They enter the Imperial Palace grounds through the Genbumon Gate and find the Official Compound front and center. The grand wooden structure is vibrant, red and black and lacquered till it shines as bright as the rest of the palace, the pillars of its kairō towering shaku over their heads. The corridor is airy and bright and opens straight into an empty courtyard; an enclosure covered in black sand, each grain polished and glimmering like a star in the night. And in the center of that moonless sky sits the Great Audience Hall.
