The People’s Failure Of Notre Dame

The people stood in awe as the devastating fire blazed through the roof and the spire of the Notre-Dame. The cathedral was still burning when the donations for its salvation came pouring in.

In less than a week an insane amount of over a billion dollars was pledged for the restoration of this symbol of Paris. The French president Macron promised that cathedral would be rebuilt and be more beautiful than before. As the international competition for the restoration was announced the main question was how should the cathedral be restored. Debates took over social media and were stopped when it was announced that the Senate of France has decided that Notre-Dame has to be restored as it was before the fire. Nevertheless, The people’s Notre-Dame design competition, which gave anyone interested a possibility to showcase the vision for the restoration of Notre-Dame continued.

In April, on the protests of yellow vests, the protesters slammed the hypocrisy of those donating millions for the cathedral but ignoring the other needs of fellow human beings; as estimated France has over 140 000 homeless people.

Knowing the cultural and architectural value of Notre-Dame, I wonder if we can preserve the monument in a way that would put people first? That is the question my proposition tried to answer: a simple roof made from corten steel with a set of lights placed were once the spire was, as a constant reminder of what was lost and a symbol of new hope because the rest of the pledged money should be used to help out the homeless people of France.

The competition with over 200 ideas was a spectacular representation of the architectural profession and architects disengagement from the real world. When you first scroll through many entries, you notice the frequent use of glass, metals, and lights but also roofs and spires similar to the original ones or redesigned versions.

Striking renders were used to showcase ideas which couldn’t possibly be made. If we look at the illustrations of submitted proposals, we can conclude that designs weren't made with Notre Dame, people nor the homeless of France in mind.

This competition raised quite a few questions including - should the general public be given the opportunity to decide on the projects of similar significance? And if we, the people, were given the chance to help out people in need, would we fail them? Thanks to the French senate, we don't have to answer these questions. For now.

So we got News that CBS CEO Les Moonves has resigned today September 9, 2018 in light of allegations that he sexually abused many women. With that being a Serious Issue and one I'm not going to comment on this post I will now Focus more on the possible consequences of what will or could happen to the Big Brother Show now that he has stepped down.

So the main question most of the Fans are asking is - Will the BB Show now be in Jeopardy? Well we all know one of the main reasons he kept bringing it back every Summer wasn't primarily because of the Ratings but because his Wife Julie Chen is the Host and enjoys the Big Brother Show. Now that he resigned it's likely that Julie will lose some of the Special Privileges she got from her Husband. So will the Big Brother show be canceled? Will it get Renewed? or is it time for the Show to take a Break and go on Hiatus? Well lets focus on that - I will now post my personal Opinion on the Matter.

Ok first of all - I'm probably one of the Biggest Big Brother Fans you will ever meet. I watch Big Brother shows Year round, one after another from around the world and most times several overlapping each other at the same time. So I will make this very Clear --> I hate when BB Shows get Canceled or Go on Hiatus - It's usually a Bad Sign and the Kiss of Death for the Show. Most BB Shows that go on Hiatus usually don't return. However, in the Case of Big Brother USA I have my own Personal Opinion that many will not like but I'm going to say it anyway. Out of all the Big Brother Shows I watch - Big Brother USA is by far the show with the most outdated BB Format and needs a Major overhaul - Year after Year they try to spice it up with Twists but year after Year the Twists Fail and now its getting to the point where the twist are being used as a loophole to give Favorite Housemates unfair advantages in the Game - Not Good.

So what needs to Happen? Well I think the time has come for BB USA to make some Drastic changes. With Les Moonves now out of the picture the New CEO should be willing to make some long overdue and needed changes. First thing I would like to see is a Complete Production Team overhaul - Why? Because the current Production Team is the Main reason the Show has been Stagnant for years. With a New Production Team we could get a New Refreshed and Updated Big Brother Show that's in Sync with the Current Times. For example many Big Brother Shows around the World allow singing and play Music in the House without a Problem - They also Stream their Parties Live on the Feeds and they don't cut the feeds when it comes to Competitions - All of these things is exactly what BB USA is currently doing wrong. In regard to Music the excuse about Royalties is Bullshit - All they have to do is Pay their Licensing Fees which isn't much - Google it - and/or come up with a Special agreement with Musicians to let their Music be played in the House like they do on many International BB Shows. For example: the Song Despacito by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee has been used in BB Spain - BB Brasil and even Big Brother UK to mention a few and in the UK BB they don't even understand the Spanish Lyrics. My point is if they really want to add Music to the Big Brother Show they can and it wouldn't cost them as much as they say and/or think - They just need to Strike the right Deals like many other Big Brother Shows who currently play Popular Music every season. Well anyway I Digress and move on.

So lets me talk about Possible Changes needed. One of the Reasons the Public Voting was Eliminated when the BB Format was changed in Season 2 was because the Production Team thought at the time that all of the Wild, Crazy, Good Players and Entertaining Housemates who were Great for Ratings were being Voted out by the Public too early. So to Prevent this and take control of the Game with the alleged Diary Room Manipulations, this Production Team decided to let the Housemates Nominate and Vote each other out by taking the power away from the Public. By doing this the Idea was if a Good Ratings Housemate were to ever be nominated they could atleast have a way to prevent that person from leaving the House by allegedly Manipulating the Housemates in the Diary Room so they could change their mind - Something they couldn't do with the Public. However as the years went on even this change has been backfiring more and more every year. These days it seems the DR Manipulators are losing their Mojo and/or the Housemates are just ignoring them and going with their Gut decision and Voting out who they want no matter what. We have seen Great Players Evicted even with this Nomination and Eviction Format. In other words - taking away the Public Vote and letting the Housemates Evict is now producing the Same Results. So the BB Format change in regard to Nominations and Eviction has now reach a Level that perhaps it's better to just give the Public back the Power to decide who should stay or go. The way it was really meant to be.

I can go on and on about what I would like to see done different on this show and maybe it's because I watch so many other BB Shows from around the World That I actually see things that Work and Don't work on those shows and Know what would work great in the USA Version. This fuels my Vision of what a Better Big Brother show BB USA would look like and be if only it added some Vital key elements into the Game. I really want the Current Production Team to one day wake up and realize things aren't as great with their Show as they think. Things could be a whole Lot better than they even realize.

So with that said and I Hate to say this - If Les Moonves Stepping down means The Big Brother Show will have to take a Break so be it. Maybe they should and maybe it would be beneficial for them to do so. Big Brother could come back with a New Production Team and a whole New Updated BB Format - One that allows Music and Live Feed Parties like Intl BB for Starters. The current Format has been Stagnant for years and has become the Laughing stock of the Big Brother World. I mean seriously the Stop Singing - Stop Talking about Production - Stop Quoting Movie Dialogues and reminding Housemates to put on their Mics on has got to Go. They need to eliminate and change the way they handle that. I can easily give the Current Production Team Valid ways to make that Happen but with their stubbornness they would probably not want to hear it. Sure the TV Only Watchers never get to see these things but it doesn't mean the Live Feed Watchers should have to deal with it either especially when they are the ones paying for it. That's one of the reasons we need New People Running the Show - Especially those that enforce the rules.

However, if the New CEO decides to keep the Big Brother Show as is and keeps the Current Production Team, then atleast they should force the Production Team to evaluate what they have been doing wrong and compare themselves with other Big Brother Shows around the world that have been doing things right and transfer some of the Good Ideas they are using over to the BB USA Format. This way we could atleast get a New Improved Big Brother USA in the end.

So Whatever Happens to BBUSA if it's Canceled or goes on Hiatus it would be a Shame - Although it won't effect me as much as those who only watch one BB Show once a year - I still feel for you. However, if it gets Renewed and comes back for another season than obviously I will Still watch - If it remains the same - Maybe - If they make Major changes - Absolutely. Unlike many Die-Hard Fans who don't Want or Like Change - I say after Watching all the Big Brother Shows I have over the years - Sometimes Change is a Good thing and is Needed for Big Brother Shows to Improve - Stay up to Date and Keep the Fans coming back.

So lets Hope for the Best and cross our Fingers that getting a New CBS CEO doesn't effect the Big Brother Show in a Bad Way. If it does then Start to Learn New Languages cause there is alot of Good Big Brother Shows out there to watch - Just in case. And who knows if CBS does decide to Cancel the Show - Endemol could easily offer the Contract to another Network 😉👌

Yuri é artista brasileiro de São Paulo que reside atualmente em Lisboa. Produz a VORAZ uma festa de celebração de identidades não-binárias e trans, que nasceu no início do ano do seu show de rádio pelo coletivo da Rádio Quântica, que está no ar desde 2020. A sonoridade que Yura apresenta nas pistas de dança não se prendem a um gênero específico dentro da música eletrônica e sim uma mistura de referências e memórias musicais que acompanham sua trajetória. A proposta maioritariamente é sempre trazer músicos e produtores da América Latina, com foco na comunidade queer, criando uma atmosfera única na pista de dança, mas também em uma reflexão sobre o cenário musical atual.

Os TREVO, trio composto por Gonçalo Bilé, Ricardo Pires e Ivo Palitos acabam de lançar o segundo single de avanço do esperado segundo disco de originais, "Estava Escrito". O novo tema está disponível em todas as plataformas digitais e vem acompanhado de um videoclipe oficial que pode ser visto no canal de YouTube da banda. "Por vezes vem a nós uma sensação de que o destino está já traçado. Principalmente quando as peças dos nossos puzzles se encaixam da mais harmoniosa forma. Tal como o Trevo, que se uniu e muniu de uma química tão espontânea! Parece que estava escrito... é assim na vida e no amor que a compõe e pinta! ", refere Gonçalo Bilé. Após a primeira noite de clubbing na 1ª edição do festival MUPA, Vitor Domingos e João Melgueira aperceberam-se que a cidade estava faminta pela música electrónica. Nessa noite, mais de uma centena de corpos dançaram no icónico Restaurante Pé de Gesso, então transformado em espaço de clubbing do festival.

Um mês após este acontecimento, em Junho de 2019, a primeira Química aconteceu no mesmo sítio. A ideia era simples: trazer à capital do Baixo Alentejo DJ's de diferentes panoramas e coletivos, e uni-los numa festa, sempre contando com a presença de DJ's residentes. O conceito expandiu-se para outras localidades, e aconteceram, entretanto, 37 Químicas espalhadas de Sul a Norte do país.A 38ª terá lugar no Musicbox, na Quinta-feira dia 24 de Novembro, onde dois convidades se juntarão aos nossos dois residentes.

Natural de Beja, João Melgueira é um dos fundadores da Química. No seu portfólio conta com inúmeras datas de Sul a Norte em alguns dos mais conceituados clubes e festivais do país: ZDB, Damas, Le Baron, Rive Rouge, NADA Temple, Bons Sons, MUPA, Pizzanight, entre muitos outros. Nesta ocasião poderemos testemunhar um dos seus sets de final de noite, onde ritmos 4/4 abrasadores se unem a sons agudos e alarmantes: techno, maximal, acid, ruta del bakalao - não há limites para este DJ.Sasha Theft pertence ao coletivo kaptcha, cuja génese teve origem nos três anos de raves kit ket na capital. Lançou com elus o disco 'Amphibian Intermission' em 2021, um trabalho que coloca sons e samples extasiantes com a capacidade de nos transportar até aos 90's em estruturas contemporâneas da música electrónica. Na pista de dança Sasha estará munide de breaks e electro, num set que promete incendiar a pista de dança.

Valody espalha o seu carisma através dos decks. Criadora da label ELBEREC, trabalhou com inúmeros artistas através desta plataforma, lançando compilações e promovendo eventos. É também criadora da festa O Grave, que traz regularmente música electrónica a Viseu. No Musicbox hipnotizar-nos-á com a sua seleção cuidada de techno.

Vítor Domingos é outro dos fundadores da Química. Envolvido no mundo da música há mais de uma década, dedicando-se à produção de eventos em Beja como o festival MUPA, Vítor apercebeu-se que DJing poderia ser uma vocação quando misturou dois vídeos do YouTube no bar Os Infantes algures em 2017. Os seus sets pretendem seguir uma linha de intensidade ao invés de uma linha de género musical, pelo que são sempre uma viagem com algumas curvas inesperadas. Ideal para abrir a noite, um papel que desempenhará na primeira edição da Química no Musicbox.

Os Tempers, banda pós-punk / synth-pop de Nova Iorque, traz a Portugal a tour de promoção ao seu mais recente álbum “New Meaning” de 2022. Venham assistir a um concerto único e dançar ao som de músicas como “Capital Pains”, “Strange Harvest” ou o mais recente “Guidance”. O duo de Nova Iorque, composto por Jasmine Golestaneh e Eddie Cooper, oferece-nos uma paleta variada de synth-pop poético, com influências de house, shoegaze e pós-punk.

A música de Tempers é dançável e ao mesmo tempo introspetiva. As batidas repetitivas das máquinas e os baixos eletrónicos hipnóticos são atravessados à vez pelos riffs latejantes da guitarra de Cooper e pela voz de Golestaneh que por vezes quase parece outro instrumento que paira como mais uma camada sonora, criando atmosferas envolventes que nos abraçam e nos levam a dançar.

Influenciados por Joy Division ou Kraftwerk e com sonoridades que nos remetem para os anos 80 de The Cure, Kate Bush ou Depeche Mode, os Tempers não são, no entanto, um exercício nostálgico, construindo antes a partir dessas referências uma sonoridade própria e atual. “New Meaning” é o 4º LP da banda, que iniciou a sua discografia em 2015 com “Services”. “Private Life” de 2019 trouxe o maior êxito da banda - “Capital Pains”. Pelo meio, um LP conceptual em colaboração com o arquiteto da Casa da Música, Rem Koolhaas.

Os lançamentos de Shunaji foram aclamados no âmbito de música independente no Reino Unido e no estrangeiro, uma vez que ela adopta um som afrofuturístico que ultrapassa os limites da música mainstream. CATARINA SILVA de nome próprio, Catarina Silva procura a fusão de universos sonoros de estéticas distintas onde possam convergir harmonicamente. Entende a música como um sistema simbólico onde expressa sentimentos abstratos e desencadeia diferentes emoções. Desde o início da pandemia tem vindo a construir o seu espaço na cena nacional, através de uma seleção caprichosa e diversificada, desde ritmos assimétricos e percussões irregulares a melodias mais convencionais. É parte integrante do coletivo bracarense “Dark Sessions” desde 2018 e mais recentemente juntou-se também à associação “Alínea A”.

All The Unknown é o título do terceiro álbum dos Grandbrothers, um trabalho que nos apresenta um vasto mundo sonoro repleto de possibilidades composicionais bem exploradas pelo pianista Erol Sarp e pelo produtor e engenheiro eletrónico Lukas Vogel, que têm vindo a mostrar a sua original abordagem eletrónica ao piano parado desde que se reuniram pela primeira vez em 2012. Este novo álbum cruza, uma vez mais, a tradição e a novidade enturmando-se mais longe no cosmos eletrónico através de um piano de cauda e de dispositivos mecânicos construídos propositadamente para o efeito e que são controlados por computador conseguindo um espetacular efeito.

Se ouvirmos com atenção podemos escutar uma batida de hip-hop da velha guarda enredada em piano melódico, ou sentir a frieza do techno a passar à velocidade de um relâmpago. "Queríamos deixar para trás a adorável música romântica do piano", explica Sarp, cuja afinidade com a música de dança sempre foi uma influência no seu processo de escrita. Na música dos Grandfather está presente um certo humor e um renovado espírito de aventura conduzido por batidas eletrónicas e sons que encorajam o movimento. "Embora a música seja ansiosa e por vezes muito enérgica, e as batidas duras o estejam a empurrar para a frente, ainda queremos que cada canção mantenha um pouco de esperança no final.

Heyy what mindset do you mean? I also think Latam dates are gonna go ahead because those are in June and most countries over here decided to forget covid exists and kept everything open since June 2021.. if there is a big spike maybe some would close but Brasil and Mexico for example never closed.. not even in the high on 2020. Uk dates maybe too since his venues are small.

i meant that it’s good to be positive and work under the premise of "the shows are going to go ahead" instead of "it’s not happening anyway". i think you‘re right too, a lot of countries will probably allow the shows to happen anyway. but "the TOUR is happening" is a good mindset to be in, so he can focus on rehearsals and not second-guess the effort he’s putting in.

Formiga: Brazil’s history maker is gunning for gold at seventh Olympics

July 21, 2021. Brazil had just beaten China 5-0 with an authoritative performance in their opening game at the Olympic football tournament in the Miyagi Stadium in Rifu. Their six-time Ballon D’Or winner Marta had scored twice, three other attacking players had got off the mark and star turn Debinha had played like the slippery little genius she is.There was, in short, plenty to get excited about. But Formiga, who had pulled the strings from central midfield throughout the game, did not go over the top in her celebrations for any of the goals. “We’ve taken only the first step,” she said after the match, “climbed only one rung. We still have a lot of tricky tasks ahead.” She knew. She’s been here before, and not just once or twice. This was the sixth time Formiga had been on the winning side in the opening game of an Olympic football tournament, the sixth in seven attempts. Seven. Seven Olympic games. Every one since 1996. Ever since women’s football was added to the Olympic programme. The only athlete ever to compete in seven games in a team sport. When Formiga made her Olympic debut in Washington, D.C. on July 21, 1996, Bill Clinton was down the road in the White House, Diego Maradona was still a professional footballer and Forever Love by Gary Barlow was No.1 on the UK singles chart. One of Formiga’s team-mates that day, the goalkeeper Meg, has been able to draw a state pension for three years now. All of that, of course, is a roundabout way of saying it’s a bloody long time ago. It is an incredible record and it has furnished Formiga with the wisdom to understand. Brazil, after that 5-0, opening-day victory, were not even close to their goal – her goal – to the thing they desperately want: gold. For all Formiga’s longevity, it is the thing that has evaded her – and that is the reason, one imagines, that she refused to get ahead of herself after that destruction of China. In those seven Olympics, there have been one quarter-final exit, three semi-final defeats – each of which has been followed by losing the bronze-medal match – and, most painfully, two final defeats, in 2004 and 2008, both to the USA. In that time, Formiga and her various team-mates have also suffered a semi and a final defeat at the World Cup. She has won South American championships and Pan-American Games. But at 43, this is Formiga’s last chance for that elusive triumph on the world stage. “I want to take the gold medal to Brazil,” she told the CBF before the tournament. “At this moment, I see myself more mature, a bit more patient in some situations to help the group take the correct decisions on the pitch. Because it’s my last , and I have been at so many, I think I can help the team in this way so we can get through the rounds.” Despite Formiga’s focus in that response on what she brings in terms of experience, that is far from all that she contributes. Formiga is not in Japan in 2021 as some sort of auxiliary coach or good luck charm; Brazil manager Pia Sundhage would not go for that. She is there because she merits it, because there really is nobody better for Brazil in her role and hasn’t been, ever – so much so that former coach Vadao essentially begged her to come out of international retirement in 2018 to help Brazil qualify for the last World Cup. Formiga is a nickname – it means ‘Ant’ – and it was bestowed on her as a compliment, even though she wasn’t fond of it at first. Watch Formiga cover the ground, watch her run for team-mates half her age, watch her selflessly fill space and plug holes as the more attacking talents, including long-time colleague Marta, burst forwards to latch onto her searching passes. Formiga still has it, and has it in bundles.

Formiga in action against Germany at the 2000 Olympics games in Australia. So, can she finally get that gold? It will, as she alluded to, be tough. So far she has been good to her word, starting all three games and helping Brazil through the group stage. But a good Canada side awaits in the quarter-finals and, if Brazil get through that, they will face the free-scoring Dutch or the Americans, with whom they share so much history. They will not be favourites. Still, though Brazil’s team this time is perhaps not as strong as it was in 2004 or 2008, when Marta, Formiga and all-time Olympic top-scorer Cristiane were at their peak, they do have some new things going for them this time, namely Sundhage, a genuinely world-class coach who led the US and Sweden to medals at Brazil’s expense in 2008, 2012 and 2016. That experience in beating Brazil has informed the veteran Swede’s management of Brazil and she has got the team more organised defensively, fitter and has worked on their mental strength in the face of adversity, all weaknesses she previously exploited. Formiga and her quiet resolve, steely grit and vast experience are central to that. “I’m 43, already at my seventh Olympics, at the level I am,” Formiga said pre-tournament. “Perhaps people think it’s abnormal, having the capacity to reach this level at my age in such a high-level competition.” It is abnormal, in the most impressive possible way. And it would be spectacular if she could top it off with a first-ever gold. Whatever happens though, whether Brazil return home with gold, silver, bronze or no precious metal at all, Formiga’s longevity and her achievements are unparalleled and will remain so, probably forever. She was born at a time when women’s football was not just frowned upon in Brazil but illegal. She was physically beaten by her own brothers for wanting to play with a ball rather than dolls. She has leapt over every hurdle and bounced back from every defeat. And there she still is, eating up the miles in the Japanese summer heat. Before the games, Formiga told Vogue: “I feel proud of having resisted so many things, of having overcome barriers and persisted in my objective.” The ultimate one is three games away. The Batman Set Photos Tease a Tough Winter for Bruce Wayne

Filming on Matt Reeves’ highly anticipated The Batman continues apace in the UK, and some new behind the scenes images have given fans a better look at the state of Gotham in the upcoming DC movie.

Robert Pattinson, who stars as the Caped Crusader in the Year 2 film, is nowhere to be seen in the aerial pics, and neither are any of the other cast members. Instead, we’re given what is tantamount to an exterior set tour. Not that we’re complaining.

In some of the images, you can see several Gotham buildings that seem to have been subjected to bomb blasts…

In others, the Penguin’s crime front – Gotham Harbor Iceberg Fish Co. – can be seen, presumably as part of the city’s dockyards.

Fans of Fox’s Gotham may remember our last on-screen collision with the Penguin’s various ‘berg dalliances, back when Oswald Cobblepot turned one of the city’s nightclubs into the iconic Iceberg Lounge. We’re sure Colin Farrell’s Penguin will manage to give Batman some trouble here, but more welcome visitors may still be offered a little caviar.

This version of Batman will give the Penguin as good as he gets, though, as he’s a little more off the chain than we’ve seen in previous big screen takes on the character.

“The public is afraid of him,” Reeves said of his DCEU-adjacent Dark Knight. “He’s not yet the vision of the character where he becomes a vision of hope for the city. He’s early in the trajectory, and so they’re afraid of him, frankly. He’s kind of a growing legend. That is one of the things we will confront in the course of the story, and that Rob has to sort of deal with in playing the character, which is how he’s perceived.”

Regardless, there’s a tough winter ahead for Bruce, as some set images tease a cold snap…

And this massive construction appears to be the outside of the Batcave, no? It’s nice to see so much organic work underway, it should make for a more grounded feel to the film.

Pattinson’s Batman will seemingly be harder to predict, even if he seems to have got some of these basic Bat tools at his disposal.

“A lot of the other stories are about how he mastered his fear to become Batman. What was exciting for me was not that, but to meet him in the middle of this criminological state. For him to make mistakes,” Reeves told intrigued viewers when The Batman’s first trailer dropped at DC FanDome.

He added “Because the movie’s detective story and about corruption, we’re treating it as if this Batman story could have happened. He doesn’t have superpowers, just super focus. Chinatown was a key movie for us. French Connection and Taxi Driver were key for us as well. A lot of ’70s street grounded stories.”

The Batman is set to be released on March 4, 2022, all being well.
