Read a book today, would not recommend. I have fallen to the "just one more chapter" curse. It is now 5 am.
#lynx thinks#so... eepy#but if i dont finish these books before saturday im gonna be too distracted to properly play my dnd character#i stopped by the library today bc i finished the last one in two days and had to get the next one#but the checkout time is three weeks so i decided to just grab the rest of the series too#and these are MASSIVE fucking books. quite hefty#anyway i pulled up with them to the counter and the librarian had already put my last book back#she must have seen that i returned it really fast and that I'd come back for the rest bc she gave me a pamphlet#its for this reading competition thing for people who read more than 25 books in a year from the library#i think she suggested it bc after seeing the stack if books she told me the policy on extensions and i said i def wouldn't need one on these#... I'm beginning to question if it's healthy for me to read books tbh bc i always do this#maybe i should stick with audio books...#theyre so slow though. my eyes are faster than my ears so i can only speed up an audiobook to a certain point before it's too jumbled#i can usually do 1.5 or 1.75 speed quite comfortably but this one has so many made up words i have to remember that i can only do 1.3 speed#icb I've done this again... send help

Trying to succeed in this life! Help me out 💀 honestly all my friends say I talk too fast. In school they told me that I had to be more humble and talk slower 😐🙄 but this is the way I am 😂😂
And a few weeks ago, I was listening to an audiobook while arranging my bookshelves and a friend came to my office and said: you listen as fast as you talk 😐😐 and I was listening at x2 😂 and I don’t know how to feel about that 🔥🔥🔥

Ah, I'm so glad that you agree with me on that topic and I really like your take on it. It's a shame that people aren't more open-minded. I think it's insulting when you confide in someone that you got emotional about something just for them to be rude to you.
I had a friend back when I was younger, around 10-11 I think, and I told her that I was tearing up while watching something. She said: "It's just a show" and "I don't cry at shows :)" in such a rude way. I just dropped the topic because there was no point in continuing, but I still felt insulted. That person is out of my life now, not for that reason but for different ones, so I don't have to worry about her judgmental attitude anymore.
Sorry for going on a tangent btw. It was something I was curious about your take on, plus kinda needed to get it off my chest because not many people understand the emotions that comes with reading and whatnot. You seem to understand and I appreciate that.
Oh and I got some good news! The audiobook came in, so by the time you get this, I'll have started it. I'm excited to see how it goes. I usually stretch audiobooks out to 2-3 days because I want to enjoy it as long as possible. I'm like that with my physical books too. I usually stretch them out to 4-5 days so I can savour it. I consider myself a "slow reader" because of that.
What about you? How "fast" do you read?
-Book Anon
It depends on how much time I've got/made for reading. When I'm on vacation, I can consume books pretty quick. But in the midst of real life, it usually takes 2 or 3 days, depending on the size of the book.
Audiobooks, I usually listen to only on commutes, so those tend to last a lot longer. If it's a brand new book that I'm experiencing for the first time, and it's an audiobook, then music takes a backseat for a while and the audiobook is all I listen to for a while lol.

a lovely person on ao3 expressed interest in more of this retired Dream chronic pain fic and I said well who knows maybe one day and then proved myself a liar by doing it Now. when it gets in your head it stays there until it's out
--
One of Hob's greatest joys, as boyfriend and caretaker to one retired King of Dreams, is finding new things for Dream to enjoy. Things that Dream didn't have time for, or never got the chance to try, when he was fully occupied by his function. It's so fun seeing Dream's joy. Dream has never allowed himself very much of it.
Of all the things Hob's introduced him to, he hadn't figured Dream would be a video game fan. Always thought he was more one for slower media like books, or maybe he just hadn't been able to imagine his ancient, ponderous stranger gaming.
Hob was wrong. So very wrong that ever since he made the dubious decision to buy Dream an iPad he's been stuck in a perennial competition with Minecraft for Dream's attention, and Minecraft might be winning.
He really should have known better, should have guessed that the once-king of the Dreaming would love the immersive dreamscapes of video games, not to mention that he can create things again in a way that doesn't have the world-shaking consequences of his former role.
When Hob gets home from work, he's unsurprised to once again find Dream twisted up in a complicated pretzel shape in his favorite armchair, headphones on, nose buried in the iPad. Sitting that way isn't going to help his joints much in the long run, but nowadays Dream only ever seems to either sprawl or to crunch up in a tiny ball when he's sitting anywhere--sometimes Hob wonders if, after so many years of carrying every aspect of his life so primly and correctly, Dream simply can't bear to do it ever again.
He's also said that that twisted way of sitting is the only position that helps his hip ache less, so Hob doesn't complain about it too much.
"Hey, love," he calls as he sets his bag down, sitting on the couch beside Dream's armchair. Dream looks up at him, pulling his headphones off so they sit around his neck. Hob can vaguely hear the audio--Christ, on top of working on his crazily elaborate Minecraft world--Hob's seen it, the thing's insane--he's also listening to an audiobook. Yeah, Hob was so wrong about expecting Dream's way of trying to relax to be slow or measured.
Dream looks tired now, though, not relaxed, dark circles along his cheeks and a pinch of weariness at the corners of his eyes. Ah. Tough day, then.
"How's the Minecrafting going?" he asks instead of remarking on it. He probably sounds like an old person when he talks to Dream about it--well, he is an old person--but Hob's never been able to stick to any one thing for too long, and he hasn't actually picked up this game since the first time it came out. Who knows how it works nowadays.
Dream shows him the screen. Predictably, he tends to just play in his own little world instead of interacting with anyone else, and said world has become an elaborate landscape of infinite cityscapes, art pieces, and complex structures Hob can't determine the purpose or design of. If Hob's not wrong, it's significantly more complicated than it was just yesterday. Dream has picked this all up with disturbing ease and gotten very fast at it besides. You can take the dream lord out of the craft but not the craft out of the dream lord, apparently.
"You're getting quick at that," he says. "Pretty soon it will be bigger than London."
"Were it to be made physical in equal dimensions, it would be," Dream says. Maybe Hob should get him involved in city planning, might be entertaining for him.
He tries to imagine Dream at a council meeting and nearly perishes at the thought.
While Dream is still looking at him, Hob cups his jaw in one hand, runs his thumb over the dark circle under his eye. "Not feeling so well today?"
Dream sighs. "No. I did not sleep well."
Hob had noticed that, but he'd hoped the fact that Dream was still in bed when he'd left for work meant he might get some sleep later on. Apparently not.
"I am..." his lips twist. "My joints. Hurt."
"I'm sorry, love." Hob would fix it if he could. God he wishes he could. "Where?"
"Back. Primarily."
Really, Hob should be grateful for Minecraft, no matter that he's been in a pitched battle against it. It's one of the only things that can properly hold Dream's attention and distract him when he's not feeling well. Without his game to occupy him Dream just starts getting sad in addition to being in pain and Hob can hardly stand it.
"I love you, you know?" he says, and the corners of Dream's lips tip up.
"I know."
"You want to do some stretches with me?" Hob offers. "You can laugh at my lack of flexibility as much as you want."
He has, in fact, gotten Dream into some yoga and light strength training. It seems to help, at least a little. Dream's new human body is already very flexible, though. It's actually part of the problem. Maybe that's what happens when you try to put an amorphous conceptual being into a fixed body. Maybe it's just the roll of the dice.
"I would not laugh," Dream says, but sets the iPad aside and starts disentangling the knot of his limbs to climb out of the chair.
"No, but I can always see you thinking about it."
"I would not exchange flexibility for you being strong enough to pick me up," Dream declares.
"It's not a one-off trade," Hob says, laughing. Then, perhaps to prove a point, he scoops Dream up from the chair and into his arms.
Dream shrieks and clutches at him with all of his limbs. He's so good at tangling himself up like that that sometimes it still feels like he's able to manifest twice as many of them.
"Could try something else to flex those muscles too," he teases, and Dream gives him a judgmental look, but Hob can see the smile secretly tugging at his lips.
"Taking perverse advantage of my ailments?" he says.
Hob feigns offense. "I was just going to give you a back rub! Totally innocent."
"Mmmm." Dream tilts his head, studying him. "Perhaps if you are truly committed to doing all of the work. I'm not finding myself inclined towards effort this evening.”
"Taking perverse advantage of my generosity?" Hob echoes.
Dream smirks down at him from his perch in Hob’s arms. “Always.”
It’s fine by Hob. Dream deserves a bit of generosity, in his opinion. And a lot more than that, too.
“You’ve indeed been most generous with me in my indolence,” Dream purrs. “Cared for me in my infirmity. How ought a man repay such a magnanimous patron?”
“Could think of a few things,” Hob says, letting his gaze deliberately track down to Dream’s lips. “I’m more inclined to spoil you, though.”
“I am amenable to that,” Dream says. Haughty little thing. Even dying couldn’t take the king out of him.
Hob doesn’t mind, though. He’s always had a bit of a thing for it. So he obligingly carries his still-smirking lover off to their bedroom to spoil him just as he’s promised.
--
Afterwards, when Dream’s sprawled across him, one leg tossed over Hob’s hips in a way that apparently relieves the strain in his lower back, though Hob can’t imagine how, he says, “Does it bother you that I have become utterly idle?”
“You’re not idle,” Hob says. “You do plenty of stuff. I see you do it.”
“Not with true purpose, though,” Dream says.
“If you mean do I think you should get some sort of career, then no, I don’t.” Hob kind of shudders at the thought. “As far as I’m concerned, you never have to work again if you don't want to. Do what you want. Work on your Minecraft cities. I’m just happy that you’re here.”
“You work,” Dream points out.
“I get bored,” Hob says. “Besides, my job doesn’t involve literally being the job, you know. You have to make up for about a trillion years of no work-life balance.”
Dream just humphs, but settles closer against him.
“Does it make you uncomfortable that I pay for everything, is that it?” Hob asks. Dream has always been so fiercely independent.
“Uncomfortable, not exactly,” Dream says. “I find I still fail to grasp the importance of money.”
Hob chuckles. “Yeah, you would.”
“Rather,” Dream continues, “the issue is equity. Something I am contemplating more as part of human society.”
“Okay, I understand what you’re getting at.” Hob wouldn’t want their relationship to feel inequitable either, but it’s not so much about paying for things, but about Dream not feeling trapped. As much as part of Hob wants to bundle Dream up and never let him leave the flat again after he literally died once already, he doesn’t want Dream to stay because he has to. He wants him to stay because he chooses to. At the same time— “But, Dream, it’s been only six months.”
“And?”
“For your lifetime— hell, even for mine, it’s a vanishingly small amount of time. And you were so tired.” It still hurts, still feels almost panic-inducing to think about, how Dream had been the last time they’d spoken before he… died. Hob’s never seen such weariness on a person, and he’s seen a lot. It would take a long time for that to lift from a human, and Dream is operating on a much vaster scale. “If I can give you time to rest, then that’s what I want to do.”
Hob could never figure out how to help Dream when he was Endless. At least there’s something he can do to help Dream now.
“Rest,” Dream echoes. “You are insistent upon it.”
Hob buries his hand in his hair, scratches at his scalp. “It feels better, though, doesn’t it?”
It takes a long moment for Dream to concede his answer, but finally he says, quietly, “Yes.”
“I love you beyond measure,” Hob says, aching with the words. “I want you to be well. It’s no more complicated than that.”
“I think I am,” Dream says slowly. “Well.”
Hob thinks so, too—at least, more so than he once was. He has his issues with his body. But some of the heaviness on him has eased. And that’s a step.
“I do not think I have been well before,” Dream continues. “At least, not in quite some time.”
This, Hob knows, too.
“Then we’ll have to keep working at it until you’re used to it,” Hob says. “And I’ll spoil you until then. Well, after, too.”
“You seem to take pleasure in it,” Dream agrees.
Hob kisses the top of his head, rubs his hand up and down his back until Dream sinks into him further, boneless and lax. Maybe later he will give Dream an actually innocent back rub, it seems to help with the pain a bit. For now he just lets Dream fall asleep on top of him.
He needs the rest, anyway.

Please give us your Gaz headcanons I need that man carnally
— Yandere Headcanons of Kyle “Gaz” Garrick
Warnings: Yandere behavior, fanon ideas by me, civilian(ish) reader, unhealthy relationship, detailed talks of kidnapping, manipulation, and (slight) smothering affection.
A/N: I went a bit overboard, so please excuse me, LOL 🫶😘
Kyle is an obsessive man, committing his whole energy and mind to memorizing everything; including the sweet images of you. As sweet as he can be, he’s just as manipulative and gaslighting in a sense of keeping you safe. Supervising over your items, mostly your phone and friends, while securing the many facts you’re only safe with him.
As much as he hates it, many haven’t stayed with him. He’s loyal– maybe a bit too much. He’s had many heartbreaks because of the strong hearts on his sleeves, forcing him to realize many of his “lovers” were just with him because they needed love, not showing affection to the actual pieces of him.
It disappoints him. He needs love like everyone else. A certain somebody to help, to shield, to love. Someone he could count on after a hard day of work, and relax in their loving, warm embrace.
But, you weren’t any of those lying skanks.
No, you weren’t cruel, or tried to take advantage of him — even if you two were still best friends. You’re something ripped straight from a fairy-tale. The rare ones that he’d read late at night during high-school.
In all, meeting you was the best decision he’d ever make.
Walking into that coffee shop he regularly visited too, patiently waiting in line and finding his eyes swiftly landing on your form from behind, was the prettiest sight he’s ever seen. Feeling his heart batter so fast for you, equally told him that he’d love you forever.
He wasn’t sure what was so hypnotizing of you. Maybe the fact you didn’t care what you were wearing, going out in public and wearing your nightwear without a care. Or how your voice was so addicting, like he could listen to it forever; another form of an audiobook, is what he’d say. Or maybe, just maybe, how cute your tongue was when it blepped out like a cat, focusing on whatever you were watching on your phone, waiting to be seen by the barista.
You were too pretty to be ignored. Forgotten. To be used by another person- and immediately, he knew you were the one for him.
He bit his lip, ignoring the “what ifs” and went for it. His crush on you was far too much more than something simple. It was love at first sight on his part.
Kyle will start at slow, a hand grasping your shoulder and catching your attention; asking about your order and ending up with your phone number. Gentle flirting is what it is, and it makes you feel a bit lighted. A nice man, a hot one at that, coming at you at this lame coffee shop? What a score.
In all: Kyle goes down the “original” hole of getting to know you. Shows up to your apartment, holding a vase of your favorite flowers and asking you out brightly. But, of course, ignoring the fact that a few nights ago, he was scrolling through his laptop, and was clicking through your network profiles, finding himself adoring what he sees. Eagerly writing down your likes, preferences, dislikes, and best-friends. Even your enemies in thick red writing.
He goes all out on gaining your attention. Loves taking you out on all types of cliché dates, such as the arcade and late evening dates to a charming restaurant. Or his favorites, an inside-date with popcorn and M&M’s whilst watching a horror movie. Secretly hoping you’d get scared and, just maybe, roll into him for comfort.
It’s the small things that are first, his eyes following your form everywhere. He’s hoping you feel the same. Hopes that you feel your own heart beat just as fast as his. Hands sweating and all shaking whenever you imagine him. Or the fact you’ll crave him as much as he does.
And the second you agree to be his – the rightful love of his – is when he really starts to show how much he gives everything his all. The very suggestion of letting you even breathe near anyone or anything that might be of competition.
Within the relationship, it’s completely normal. It all started on a normal pretense, and made you two fall in love so lovingly. He’s so kind and sweet. An ultimate gentleman. Never pressures you to do anything, and loves forehead kisses more than anything.
Kyle’s type of affection is so loving. He loves any type of excuse to spoil you, especially with his home-cooked food, and loves to be held and be holding you at any time. A hand in your back-pocket is expected, and tries so hard not to pinch or squeeze your globes.
Showers you in compliments galore, even if it’s the smallest things. “So pretty with your hair like that today” “My shirt looks so good on ya’”, often rubbing his face deeper into your neck with his kind words. “So glad you’re mine, love.”
Oh, and, let’s not forget, he’s extremely clingy; emotionally and physically. Sending good morning and good night texts, just loves the idea of you thinking of him as you lay your pretty head on that pillow, as he does the same.
But, he’s a harasser who sticks by your side. Always wanting to be the one to drive you to work, hands touching yours as the two of you eat breakfast and dinner, even kissing you sloppy when he’s just brushed his teeth for that morning. But can you blame him?
To you, he was an amazing man — your norm boyfriend, turned into fiancé then husband. He loves you dearly. But, there’s a deeper, darker side of him that even you do not know.
Despite his laid and cool back approach, Kyle is constantly thinking of bloody and brutal thoughts. He’s aware he shouldn’t have them– but he can’t stop having them.
He snickers when a man barely brushes against you. Growls when someone unexpectedly touches you. Or how anyone else compliments you, he lets out a sigh and notices your smile is too bright. A tad jealous, but rarely shows it towards you, but rather in his mind where he’s satisfied with his type of savage ending.
Though, he’s not prone to aggressiveness. He’d never kill for you, never. His heart clenches even at the thought of you missing someone he murdered with his irony knife. And with that, he only uses his murderous tactics if needed.
And instead, he prefers using manipulation. Dropping subtle hints of the people around you, making you double-think of their actions and ensuring you’re aware of their dangers. You shouldn’t trust them, only him, okay?
However– if you began to see the red flags. The ultimate words of leave, and to break off with him, he won’t be so happy. He tried everything to keep you happy, and you do this? Betray his trust and say to you, “we aren’t compatible with each other”?
But, the both of you are, right darling?
Eventually, you will see that, and since you want to leave him, it’s necessary to keep you in the house. You can’t live without him. And nor can he without you. Both of you are puzzled for each other, and with time and dedication, Kyle will have you submitting to his ways. Even if it breaks his heart.

I listen to audiobooks and podcasts at 1.25 X by default.
When it comes to stuff like writing and talking (but not MOVING 😅😅😅) think I probably live like 1.25 X faster overall.
I routinely submit twice as many grant apps at work annually as anyone else in a year.
My ADHD pulls SO HARD on the hyperactive/impulsive side and like 10% inattentive.
So when I am listening to a podcast and I hear a woman talking so fast on 1.25 X I have to speed her down to normal to understand her I know we would have AMAZING conversational chemistry and rapport.
Hey all other jabber jaws, I love you! Someday we’ll meet and yammer our heads off and melt the brains of slow talkers everywhere!

ngl, I am in awe at your ability to listen to audiobooks at 3x speed. I can barely manage to listen at 1.25x speed before it hits the wrong side of my adhd and anxiety.
Thank you! I appreciate you saying that; I saw in my post about reading that a lot of people were impressed by that bit. I don't know what about my brain that works so that regular speed audiobooks are simply too slow, but it has made my reading faster, I can say that much. I will say (this is not advice, listen to audiobooks at the speed that suits you best, reading is not a competition) that I took a while to get used to 3x, and I used to only be able to listen to books that fast if I had listened to the audiobook narrator before and knew their voice. Now, almost all books I read go immediately to 3x speed, 4x if I am on Hoopla.
I remember mentioning this tidbit to someone who then insisted that what I did didn't count as reading and there was no way I retained any of it, which was not fun, so I am enjoying the nicer response this post has gotten.
