The first time he refused the spell, his father made. Flinched away from it because the spell was cast for war and vengeance. It was a spell his father nearly forced upon him.
This time he demanded Viren cast the spell demanded he do SOMETHING. But now this spell was cast to protect, something he willingly brought upon them.
This spell that he was so terrified of, it now being used to do what he had always wanted to do. To save the lives of the people around him.
