This Verse Secretly Undermines All of Christianity...

I just saw this and thought I would process it on my own.

This YouTuber doesn't sound like he's explored much beyond mainstream Western Christianity. He makes the bold statement that EVERY Christian sect finds indispensable the idea that Christ died on the Cross "for our sins". Period.

For the longest time I found that challenging too. He goes on to talk about many of the same things I've asked, "Why couldn't God just forgive us outright? Why must he go through a generational pageant to do something the God of the Universe could have done of his own accord in the first place?"

You can say this is a dumb question. I've been told this many times.

Yet I have never been the only one asking this.

Many, if not all Atheists ask this question. Frankly, many "Christian" answers sound a little unhinged.

Now, I don't think that his examples necessarily contradict the prevailing point of view though. All anyone has to do is look at the banking industry to see that credit on future earnings is a valid payment method. Now it's true that modern banking, and especially credit, wasn't developed until the European Jews, unable to make a living any other way, started lending during the medieval period. Jesuits came up with the idea of insurance, which didn't technically fall under the prohibition against usury. And with ongoing innovation, modern financial markets developed.

None of these, of course, would have been understood by the local people of Jesus' time and place.

What was understood was life and death.

And this is where I found my peace.

Sins can easily be forgiven, but sickness and eventual death? That's a whole other nut to crack. Now, to be clear, unfortunately even the most traditional Christian communities have started to obsess about how SIN must be atoned!

But there is a strain in the oldest Christian traditions that it wasn't primarily sin that was destroyed on the cross, but rather death, disease, corruption (of which sin is a derivation to be sure, but not the point).

Now it's easy to look around and say - "Look! it didn't work." I myself have had to say good bye to both my parents over the last several months.

However, there is a resurrection that is promised. And if Christ has done what he said he did, then there WILL be a general resurrection.

The key is to be prepared for that resurrection. Now we could go on about which denomination is best prepared, but I have little faith in denominationalism. I think it's a means to conquer and divide the faithful, pitting follower against follower. Soon the God who's being worshiped isn't the most High God, but the Deceiver who encourages us all to call each other heretics. I do not think most "Christians" are Christian, but rather following their own wisdom (1 Timothy 6:3-5, 2 Thessalonians 2:11, Matthew 7:13-14, Matthew 24:11).

Now I may be a false teacher myself for thinking such a thing and putting it out there, but I have faith that God will know his own. And while he loves the rest, and has given them life, that life will be so much less for the fact that they reject what he's given them.

I find the idea of a river of fire helpful - Moses and the Glory of God (Exodus 33:20-23), speaks to the idea that to human senses, God is Fire. The Story of the Three Holy Youths (Daniel 3) has also been seen as an illustration of man abiding in the presence of fire, as a proxy for God, unharmed. Pentecost is God's fire experienced by the faithful after his resurrection. How will Gods fire be experienced by the unfaithful?

I have no idea, but I doubt that it will be pleasant (Luke 16:19-31).

In short, I feel this video failed to land it's point. There's enough diversity in Christianity to survive this argument, though I do not think that most modern Christians are open to my resolution.

The Ten Commandments

1 Then Moses called all Israel, and said unto them, Hear, O Israel, the ordinances and the laws which I propose to you this day, that ye may learn them, and take heed to observe them.

2 The Lord our God made a covenant with us in Horeb.

3 The Lord made not this covenant with our fathers only, but with us, even with us all here alive this day.

A LETTER FROM YOUR HEAVENLY FATHER! The following words come from the heart of God. After all God loves you, and He is the Father you have been looking for all your life. This is His Love Letter to you! My Dear Child, You may not know me, but I know everything about you. (Ps 139:1) I know when you sit down and when you rise up. "But how can you be a Christian and leftist?" Because Jesus is!

"The Bible isn't about politics. Why are you bringing your own personal agenda to the text?" We all always bring our own biases to the text. The question is simply whether we acknowledge them or not. Most interpretations of the Bible you'll hear twist the Bible to support the status quo. We read the Bible, usually pretty straightforwardly, and realize that that interpretation isn't congruent with the book written by an oppressed people about their liberatory God.

"I don't really know the Bible all that well. What can I contribute?" Your perspective! We read the Bible from a leftist and liberationist perspective, and a big part of the liberationist perspective is that everyone has something to add to our understanding of the Bible. We offer many, often contradictory, readings of a story in each episode. Your job as a co-host isn't to know the Bible in and out, but to do as much reading and/or research as you need to feel comfortable sharing your thoughts with a broader audience.

Keeping Your Lamps Lit

“At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish and five were wise. The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them. The wise ones, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps. The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep.

“At midnight the cry rang out: ‘Here’s the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!’

“Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. 8 The foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.’

 “‘No,’ they replied, ‘there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.’

“But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut.

“Later the others also came. ‘Lord, Lord,’ they said, ‘open the door for us!’

We know from scripture that - "Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path. So the word is the lamp and what is the oil"- Psalm 119:105

And how do we keep our oil lamps lit? First of all what does the oil represent? In the Bible oil has many uses.

1.It was used to heal- Story of the Good Samaritan- Luke 10: 33, 34- But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him.��He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him. 

2. Used to anoint Kings and priests- Example is King David- "He was a handsome, healthy young man, and his eyes sparkled. The Lord said to Samuel, "This is the one - anoint him!" Samuel took the olive oil and anointed David in front of his brothers. Immediately the spirit of the Lord took control of David and was with him from that day on. 1 Samuel 16: 12, 13.

3. Used to anoint sacred object- "Then use it to anoint the tent of meeting, the ark of the covenant law, the table and all its articles, the lampstand and its accessories, the altar of incense, the altar of burnt offering and all its utensils, and the basin with its stand. You shall consecrate them so they will be most holy, and whatever touches them will be holy." Exodus 30: 26-29

It is important to note that the anointing oil was not just any oil. It was a special combination of olive oil, spices, flowers, and herbs. - "Then the Lord said to Moses, “Take the following fine spices: 500 shekels of liquid myrrh, half as much (that is, 250 shekels) of fragrant cinnamon, 250 shekels of fragrant calamus, 24 500 shekels of cassia—all according to the sanctuary shekel—and a hin of olive oil. Make these into a sacred anointing oil, a fragrant blend, the work of a perfumer. It will be the sacred anointing oil." Exodus 30: 22-25

This special anointing oil was meant for the priests alone. " “Anoint Aaron and his sons and consecrate them so they may serve me as priests. Say to the Israelites, ‘This is to be my sacred anointing oil for the generations to come. Do not pour it on anyone else’s body and do not make any other oil using the same formula. It is sacred, and you are to consider it sacred. Whoever makes perfume like it and puts it on anyone other than a priest must be cut off from their people.’”- Exodus 30: 30- 33

As Christians you are anointed by the Holy Spirit as priests.- 1 John 2:20 "But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know the truth."

"But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God's very own possession....Come to him…let yourselves be built…to be a holy priesthood.” 1 Peter 2:9 and 2:10. Hebrews 7:17 “You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.” Hebrews 8:3 “Now every high priest is appointed to offer gifts and sacrifices.”

4. Burning of incense - Burning of the incense was an act of worship. "Aaron must burn fragrant incense on the altar every morning when he tends the lamps. He must burn incense again when he lights the lamps at twilight so incense will burn regularly before the Lord for the generations to come. " - Exodus 30:7,8

Incense has traditionally been thought of as prayers before God.

"Let my prayer be accepted as sweet-smelling incense in your presence. Let the lifting up of my hands in prayer be accepted as an evening sacrifice".  Psalm 141:2

So how do we keep the anointing (our oil lamps filled) God has bestowed on us?

First we need the the healing the oil offered. Psalm 147:3 reminds us that "He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds." Psalm 107:20- "He sent out his word and healed them, and delivered them from their destruction".

Secondly we need to burn incense. Don't neglect your prayer life.- our prayers are presented as incense before the Lord.  "May my prayer be set before you like incense; may the lifting up of my hands be like the evening sacrifice" Psalm 141:2

Thirdly we have to strive to keep the anointing. In the parable we know that Jesus is the groom and the virgins are the church. The five foolish virgins slept knowing that their oil lamps were not full. Perhaps they believed they had more time to get ready. They missed the warning signs that the bridegroom was near. 1 Thessalonians reminds us that God's day of judgement is coming. Unlike people who still are asleep in the dark, as God's children we are .."children of the light and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness. So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be awake and be sober...putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet." 1 Thessalonians 5: 6-8.

In the bible the word sober does not just mean not drunk. It has multiple meanings such as being alert to God's Spirit and direction. Being self- controlled. Not giving into our flesh such as bouts of anger. We should have sound judgement. In other words, our actions should reflect that we are God's children.

The wise virgins were diligent in keeping their oil lamps filled. They prayed, sought out God's word, and worked daily to please God. Although we are not saved by our good works the bible teaches that "For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also". James 2:26. Our actions testify of our faith. So the 5 wise virgins daily were diligent in ensuring that their oil lamps were full even though they had no idea when the bridegroom would come. Perhaps the foolish virgins got weary of the wait . After all day after day the bridegroom did not appear, so the foolish virgins began to slack. After all if the bridegroom did not appear today, the week before, the month before, and the year before chances are he is not coming tonight. In their weariness, they gave up filling their lamps.

"Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up." Galatians 6:9

It sounds overwhelming doesn't it. Trying to make sure we spend time in God's word, pray, hear from God, be obedient to God, and do His works. How can this be done. Well don't do it in the flesh. This is why God's Holy Spirit resides in us.

"The Holy Spirit helps believers in their weaknesses and intercedes for them. " Romans 8:26-27. It is the Holy Spirit who will help us keep our lamps full. The Christian life should be joyful and peaceful, not filled with weariness and works.

"When believers have the Holy Spirit, they feel joy, love, and peace." Galatians 5: 22-23. To keep our oil lamps full all we need to do is  But "seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." Matthew 6:33. If we keep our focus on God we will naturally keep our lamps full. It's hard but easy at the same time.

The Three Angels Messages Lesson 02: No Sympathy for the Devil

Revelation 14:8 - And another angel followed, saying, “Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she has made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.”

The second angel’s message seems very complicated at first.  It definitely deals with a lot of symbols.  In order to understand this Bible verse, let’s take a closer look at the following keywords:

Let’s read together Genesis 9:7-17; Genesis 10:10; Genesis 11:1-4; Isaiah 14:13-14; and Daniel 1:2.

If we are to talk about Babylon, we need to also discuss Babel. Both kingdoms were founded in the land of Shinar.  Babel can be considered the archetype for all the worldly kingdoms that followed it.

The story of the Tower of Babel is one of the most famous stories in the Bible.  Have you ever considered the builders’ motivations for building the tower in the first place?

 The builders did not trust God’s promise to never destroy the world again with a flood.  They wanted to survive another flood on their own power. 

The builders also did not want to follow God’s command to be fruitful and multiply across the earth.  Rather, they wanted to build a tower whose “top is in the heavens”  and make a name for themselves.  The builders seem to be motivated by pride and perhaps to even take the worship of God for themselves.

Let’s read together Exodus 20:2-6; 1 Chronicles 9:1; Jeremiah 16:18; Jeremiah 50:38; and Daniel 3:1-7.

The story of Daniel’s three friends and the fiery furnace is another well-known Bible story.  Have you considered what was Nebuchadnezzar’s motivation for setting up the golden image in the first place?  He wanted everyone in his empire to acknowledge Babylon as supreme, even over any god his subjects might be worshiping.  If anyone refused to bow before Nebuchadnezzar’s golden idol, they were to be killed by being tossed into a fiery furnace. 

Nebuchadnezzar had essentially set up a false religious system of worship enforced by civil authority.   This system forced people to choose between dying for their religious faith or to compromise that faith in order to live.

Let’s read together 2 Samuel 1:27; Isaiah 21:9; Jeremiah 51:8-9, 47; Daniel 5:25-30; and Revelation 18:2.

“Babylon is fallen, is fallen.”  God ultimately judged Babylon for its idolatry and persecution of God’s people.  Babylon was conquered by the Medo-Persians in 539 BC.

Alcoholic wine in the Bible is always viewed in a negative light.  Alcoholic wine clouds and even perverts judgment.   Note that the Bible does talk about unfermented non-alcoholic wine more positively, but that is a Bible study for another time.

Prophetically speaking, wine also represents God’s judgment against wickedness and  idolatry.  You definitely do not want to drink this wine!

What is wrath?  The Merriam-Webster Dictionary offers two definitions that are relevant to our Bible study today.  Wrath can be defined as a “strong vengeful anger or indignation (anger aroused by something unjust, unworthy, or mean).”  Wrath can also be defined as “retributory punishment for an offense or a crime; divine punishment.”

God’s wrath is His response to sin.  In the Old Testament, God’s wrath consumed the Egyptian army chasing the children of Israel.  God’s wrath was also aroused when the children of Israel committed sins or fell into idolatry.  God’s wrath led to the destruction of the temple of Jerusalem and the Babylonian captivity.

Let’s read together Psalm 21:8-9; Zephaniah 1:1-18; Matthew 3:7; Luke 3:7; Romans 2:5; Ephesians 5:6; and Colossians 3:6.

God’s wrath is also associated with judgment.  God’s wrath will be poured in full on the unrighteous at Judgment Day.

Let’s read together Numbers 16:46; 2 Chronicles 12:6-9; 32:25-26; Psalms 78:32-39: 85:2-4; and 106:23.

Despite what many people believe, God does not want to pour His wrath on people.  In the Old Testament, Aaron and Moses both interceded on behalf of the children of Israel to avert God’s wrath.  God is willing to spare sinners from His wrath when they humble themselves before Him.  Whether it was the people of Israel or a king like Hezekiah, God was willing to grant mercy to all who came to Him earnestly and asked forgiveness of their sins.

Let’s read together Isaiah 53:4-6, 10; John 3:16, 36; Romans 5:9; 1 Thessalonians 5:9; and 1 John 4:10.

God has done everything He could to shield us from His wrath.  God loves us so much that He gave His only son Jesus to die for our sins.  Jesus is our ultimate intercessor.  We only have to confess and repent of our sins and call upon Jesus as our Lord and Savior.

Let’s read together Ezekiel 23:16-18; Hosea 4:11-12; Isaiah 23:17; and  John 8:41.

What is fornication?  The Merriam-Webster Dictionary gives the definition as “sexual intercourse between two persons who are not married to each other.” 

The Bible likened God’s people (the church) to a woman (Jeremiah 6:2).  Paul the Apostle described the church as the bride of Christ (Ephesians 5:22-33).  Therefore, spiritual fornication would be the church embracing someone or something other than Christ.  In the Old Testament times, the people of Israel strayed from God and worshiped various idols and other false gods.

Let’s read together Matthew 24:24; John 4:24; 2 Timothy 3:1-5; 1 John 2:15-23; Revelation 17:1-6; and Revelation 18:3, 9.

The book of the Bible describes a harlot woman who represents a false worship of Christ. This church outwardly seems Christian, but in actuality, it does not follow Jesus in spirit and truth.  Many people will be deceived and fall into Babylon.

Let’s read together Deuteronomy 31:19 and Revelation 18:1-8.

What does the second angel’s message mean?

All false systems of worship will be judged.  Salvation by works, the idea you can make it to heaven on your own merits, cannot save you.  Salvation in sin, the idea that once you are saved, you are always saved, will lead you to be lost.  All these forms of worship will lead you to Babylon.

Even if you are worshiping at the “right” church the “right” way, you can have Babylon in your heart.  If you harbor pride in your heart or you esteem anything in the world more than God, then you are in spiritual Babylon.

If you find yourself in Babylon, what are you to do?  God wants you to leave Babylon right now!  Jesus is calling you to worship Him in spirit and in truth.  He does not want you to face God’s wrath.  Repent and turn to Christ your Savior!

APPREHENDING THE GOD OF INCREASE

Right now, we celebrate the Holy Spirit bringing us into a divine convergence to position us for a continual increase in wisdom, stature, and favor!

Luke 2:52 reads, "And Jesus kept increasing in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men."

WISDOM is the application of your understanding and the supernatural ability to turn your encounters and dreams with God into reality. This increase in the Spirit of Wisdom is being poured out to give you the capacity to clearly recognize where your FOCUS should be directed right now. In the Bible the "Sons of Issachar" knew the times (kairos: the NOW opportunities) and the seasons.

STATURE refers to the size of your heart and your inner man. It's a combination of your God-sized dreams, His presence on your life, and the size of your YES to God. Your stature in the Spirit causes a healthy recognition and is used by God to attract favor with God and men.

FAVOR is a direct result of apprehending and moving in your Christ calling as you bear fruit that remains for God’s Kingdom.

2 Corinthians 9:8 reads, "And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that always having all sufficiency in everything, you may have an abundance for every good deed."

SPENDING YOUR FAVOR

The secret to your increase in these NOW moments is directly linked to recognizing and valuing your "Burning Bush" (new and uncommon) invitations and your ability to "take off your shoes" and stay a while with Him.

Moses not only turned aside to encounter God's obvious invitations, but he built a dwelling place for continual encounters and called it "The Tent of Meeting". From that day on everyone knew that Moses was intentional about obeying God and using obedience and communion with God to receive more understanding and favor.

In Exodus 33:13, Moses discovers how to use his favor, "Now therefore, I pray You, if I have found favor in Your sight, let me know Your ways that I may know You, so that I may find favor in Your sight."

FAVOR AND FRIENDSHIP

Exodus 33:14-16 reads "And He said, 'My presence shall go with you, and I will give you rest.' Then he said to Him, 'If Your presence does not go with us, do not lead us up from here. For how then can it be known that I have found favor in Your sight, I and Your people? Is it not by Your going with us, so that we, I and Your people, may be distinguished from all the other people who are upon the face of the earth?'"

Moses had learned from his surprise "Burning Bush" encounters, and from wearing a path in the sand to his regularly scheduled "Tent of Meeting" moments with God, that experiencing more of God's presence would cause him to go from favor to friendship.

Then Moses said, "I pray You, show me Your glory!" (verse 17)

You have found the favor and the friendship of God who says to you this day, "I will be with you just as I was with Moses."

God shows His glory in us as we move from glory to glory as we bear fruit that remains for His advancing Kingdom through our Christ calling.

When we receive Jesus, it not only changes us on the inside but on the outside too. We will look different, act different, walk different, etc. In Exodus 33, Moses is talking to the LORD after the whole “worshipping the golden cow” situation, and Moses tells the LORD,

“If your presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here. How will anyone know that you are pleased with me and with your people unless you go with us? What else will distinguish me and you people from all the other people on the face of the earth?”

That last question got me thinking…the presence of God is what distinguishes a born again believer from the world.

We Have Joy! (Psalm 16:11- “…in Your presence, there is fullness of joy.”) You can have happiness without His presence, because happiness is based on emotion, but it will quickly fade away. But the joy that comes from being in the presence of the LORD only fades if you allow it to!

We Have Freedom! (2 Corinthians 3:17- “Now the Lord is the spirit and where the Spirit of the LORD is there is freedom.”) True freedom comes when we “let go and let God” handle our situation. When Jesus died on the cross, he paid the price of our sin that we might be free!

We Have Peace! (Isaiah 54:10- “For the mountains may depart and the hills be removed, but my steadfast love shall not depart from you, and my covenant of peace shall not be removed.”) No matter what is going on in the world, as long as you are living in the peace of God, it cannot touch you! Jesus had peace in the storm (Mark 4:35-41) so he was able to bring peace to the wind and the waves!

We Have Love! (1 John 4:8- “Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.”) Jesus told his disciples in John 13:11 that “the world will know we are his disciples by our love.” We have an obligation as a representation of Jesus to love everyone, even those that are unlovable! You cannot be in God’s presence and not love because God is love!

We Have Power! (Acts 1:8- “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you.”) When we are truly living in everything that God has given us, we have power over every work of the enemy! There is no such thing as a jr. Holy Spirit. I don’t care what your age is…you can have this power!

Moses wanted so badly to always be in good standing with God; he never wanted to do anything that would make him angry or turn from him, and it’s not a lot of people that desire that kind of relationship with God. We desire favor with our boss, or maybe we have a crush on someone, or maybe we want someone to like us so we can close a business deal. Maybe we want fame and fortune, but whatever it is, we want it more than favor with God.

Verse 14: “The Lord replied, “I will personally go with you, Moses, and I will give you rest—everything will be fine for you.”

The lord can give us guarantees like this; he can give us confirmation like this: he can do this because he is God, but when God gives us words like this, we need to take it and believe he will be there for us that we will be “fine” and sometimes we hear these words from other people ,we can’t trust we will be 100% fine because people can’t give you that, they can give you WORDS but that’s it, but God can give you something others can’t give you WHICH IS DEEP CONFIRMATION.

“Psalm 84:10 A single day in your courts is better than a thousand anywhere else! I would rather be a gatekeeper in the house of my God than live the good life in the homes of the wicked.”

See, friends, we can have everything in the world, but nothing will ever be better than being a gatekeeper in the house of God; some people want a mansion when they go to heaven or even money, but true servitude is taking less of everything to be near God. The favor of God is so essential in our life, and when we get this favor , we never want to commit a sin that will cause him to turn from us and take that favor away.

Verse 15 Then Moses said, “If you don’t personally go with us, don’t make us leave this place.”

Moses takes it a step further, and he says if you don’t go, I don’t wont to leave this place, when we develop such a close relationship with God, we realize that nothing is better without him, and life is complicated when we don’t spend time with him. Our day goes smoother when we take the necessary steps to spend time with God! Once you feel the actual presence of God, you don’t want anything else but Him! That’s what Moses felt, and he didn’t want to move unless God was going with him. Don’t move; don’t start anything unless you’re doing it with God!

Verse 16-17 How will anyone know that you look favorably on me—on me and on your people—if you don’t go with us? For your presence among us sets your people and me apart from all other people on the earth.”

Folks, let me tell you, when you have had the presence of God in your room and in your life, people can feel it upon you, people can tell by the way you carry yourself that you have God on the inside you don’t have to say a word because Gods presence is there. He knew if God's presence weren’t there, people would know that something was different because when we walk in the light of God! We don’t have to worry about anything because God’s presence and favor is upon us no demon , no person can do nothing to us!

***Today, We must be separated and be ye holy because God is holy! We must keep ourselves pure! Because God is pure! We must seek the favor of God while we can because nothing beats the FAVOR OF GOD! God wants to give us a favor, but he’s just not going to give us a favor just because, he’s going to give us FAVOR because we are driven to seek him and to be connected with God! We will step into a new realm of the spirit when we have the favor of God, and as we walk in this new realm, we must stay focused on him!
