@theell-evatedone submitted: found this mantis and brought her in my girlfriends car to show my girlfriend and then she laid her eggs???
Lol I guess she was ready to party and you grabbed her at just the right moment. If you can, attach the piece of rope it's on to some kinda woody plant/stem or fence post or something outdoors so it can hatch naturally. They're not native if you're in the US, but they're so well established that it's okay to let it hatch.

Initially I thought these were the same species. They were photographed in a meadow where I have often photographed our native mantids. But it turns out the bottom photo is of a species I'd never found before, though I knew we had them in the area. The wing length should have tipped me off.

@w0rped-moss submitted:I think you’ll like this bug! I’m pretty sure shes a female because she had a very large abdomen. I found her in Utah, but I’m pretty sure she‘s a European Mantis. What I’m wondering is why she’s such a light color. Do you have any idea why that is?
Yes, it’s a European mantis. And you’re right that it’s probably a female if her abdomen was quite large. Her coloration is within the normal spectrum for this species! Shades of green and brown are both very common.

European Mantis found in a walkway that tends to get a good deal of foot traffic during the day. Unfortunately they are invasive in my area, but nonetheless they were safely relocated out of the way into some greenery.

Backlit shot of a European mantis (Mantis religiosa) next to a mushroom. The widely spaced eyes allow three-dimensional vision required for accurate prey capture. Mantids are cannibalistic and well known for females devouring males before, during or after mating.
