Euro zone on brink of recession
The euro zone economy again witnessed stagnation in the final quarter of last year amid wars, inflation and weakening export markets, Politico informed.
Eurostat, the EU’s statistical agency, reported in a preliminary estimate on Tuesday that gross domestic product (GDP) remained unchanged in the fourth quarter compared to the previous three months.
Such figures were mainly driven by Germany, which earlier confirmed that its GDP shrank by 0.3 per cent in the last three months of the past year.
France managed to avoid a GDP contraction due to imports dropping faster than exports. However, the weakness of the euro zone’s two largest economies was partially offset by stronger-than-expected performance from Spain and Italy.

Euro zone still in recession as business activity declines
The contraction in euro zone business activity continued into late 2023 due to a sustained slump in the dominant services sector, pointing to an ongoing recession, a survey revealed on Thursday.
S&P Global’s HCOB composite purchasing managers’ index (PMI) was revised upward for December to 47.6 in November after a preliminary estimate of 47.0. However, it remained below the 50 mark that defines growth or contraction.
The services PMI rose to a five-month high of 48.8 from November’s 48.7. Cyrus de la Rubia, chief economist at Hamburg Commercial Bank, stated:
It’s not quite recession territory yet for services, but the vibe is far from growth-oriented. There are a lack of clear signals indicating an imminent return to robust expansion. The Composite PMI…is sounding the recession alarm for the euro zone though.

Knowing that there are people more broke than me/unemployed who are travelling and doing fun stuff like going away on trips and concerts and whatnot... It makes me feel so fucking detached from reality, just confused and lost. How does one save enough money for that. What am I doing wrong. Am I buying too much food again. I know I make way below average but there must be some kind of a trick to do this right. Could there be a way for my life to be a little bit nicer and I just don't know about it

So, in Croatia we recently switched from Croatian Kuna, the Croatian official currency, to Euro.
And I can't describe how much of a mindfuck is it to see the new prices. I mean sure, we had a transition period in 2022 when, even trough we still used Kunas, the prices were written out in both Kuna and Euro. But, really, a lot of people didn't have time or energy to pay much attention.
And the weird thing is that €1 equals about Kn7,3. So the prices are REALLY different.
Usually, if I went to buy something bigger, like my entire hair routine or I was going to a sushi place and knew I was going to splurge a bit I had bills with numbers like 100 or 200 on them.
Now I have, like, €20 or maybe a twenty and a ten in my wallet and that's it.
Even weirder is that, before, if I'd get change, AKA coins, I'd be like "oh, ok, that's not that much." Like, if someone hands you a handful of Kn1 coins you can maybe buy a bag of chips, or a really cheap coffee or a croissant.
If someone hands me a handfull od €1 coins, that's a small fortune!
Like, a few days ago, I payed for my lunch with a twenty and the cashier returned me all in change. And I was like "Wtf, that is so little!" and then, the very next moment I thought "What are you talking about, idiot! You could buy a week worth of lunches for that money! And still have some money left!"
Anyways, the closest thing I can think of is if you're watching measures in a system you're not used to. Like, if you used imperial and now you see meters or if you're used to the metric system (like me) so you're like "wait, how much is 5ft again?"
That, but worse.
Like, I got my paycheck yesterday and I was ready to go fight the HR because WTF IS THAT NUMBER. then I realized...those are euros....that is your normal paycheck...you're rich, dumbass!

Please Help
Help my family in gaza.🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸❤️❤️❤️🍉🍉🍉
My name is Mohamed Saqr, and just a short time ago, my family and I were living a life full of hope and stability in Gaza. We had worked hard for everything we had – multiple homes, a farm, and several successful businesses. Life was good, and we were building a future for ourselves. My brother, 24, recently married, and we were both proud of the lives we had built. But all of that changed in a heartbeat when the war began on October 7th.

this is my brother, Motaz Saqr, who had to undergo surgery in his stomach due to the pollution we are exposed to daily.

This is my house, before and after, im newly married and this was the house we were supposed to live in but the war happened and it turned into rubble since the war.
Since that day, everything we knew has been taken away from us. We were forced to flee our homes, leaving behind everything we had worked for. We lost our homes, our farm, and our businesses. Now, my family and I are constantly on the move, trying to find safety and shelter wherever we can. The fear we live with every day is unimaginable. We move from one camp to another, never knowing when or where the next attack might come. My brother’s children cry every night, scared of the loud explosions that seem to be getting closer with each passing day.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is my brother’a daughter, this is the condition we are living in during the war.
Every day is a struggle just to survive. Food, water, and medicine are scarce, and we never know if the next meal will come. My wife, my brother, his wife, and their children are doing everything we can to stay strong, but it’s getting harder by the day. We’ve lost so much, but the hardest part is the constant fear for our lives. We’ve already witnessed too much destruction, and we know the situation could get even worse.
We started this GoFundMe because we need help. We need funds not only to survive but also to try and escape Gaza before it’s too late. We are asking for your support – anything you can give will make a huge difference in our lives. Your generosity could help provide food, clean water, and medical supplies, and it might even help us find a way out of this nightmare. Please, if you can, help us. Every donation brings us one step closer to safety and a chance at rebuilding our lives.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

!! DONT SKIP !! donations urgently needed They are only at €5,561 out of €50,000 goal
I was contacted by Nader to draw pictures for and help spread his brother Abdulsalam Al-Anqar’s fundraiser to save their family. Nader is a 17 year old boy who lives in Gaza with his family: parents Ahmed (54) and mother Iman (49), brothers Abdulsalam (26), Mohammed (14), and Omar (21) and Abdulsalam’s wife and their one year old daughter Iman. Imagine it was your sibling, your friend, your son, who should be in school or with his friends, who instead has to hide from bombs and ask for help online to save his family. His family have suffered through one year of genocide. All of you are their hope to get to safety.
This fundraiser is vetted by @gazavetters, number four on the spreadsheet here
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Abdulsalams daughter Iman is only one year old and has lived most her life in a war zone. She is suffering from malnutrition. It’s every fathers worst nightmare to see their child starve and not be able to feed her. Please help him feed his daughter and get her to safety. No child should grow up hearing the sound of bombs. Every child has the right to food and safety. You can help give Iman the childhood she should have, where she can sleep in a safe bed at night with a full stomach.
Tumblr media
Their father Ahmed has cancer and needs surgery and medication. It is not possible to get the treatment he needs in Gaza. every day his illness is left untreated, the cancer will continue to spread through his body, so he very urgently needs money for treatment and travel. If you help them get to their goal, you are saving their fathers life. Don’t let this family who have already lost so much lose their father, husband, and grandfather
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nader has showed me pictures of this explosion close to them, thankfully they were able to get away. Every day they stay in Gaza their lives are at risk from israeli bombs. Every day and hour counts. I know there are compassionate and kind people who are willing to help. every euro helps, YOUR donation will bring them one moment closer to safety. With love and hope I’m asking you to give what you can, I believe in the kind people of the world and I beg you to not let them die. If you can’t donate, please share so it may reach people who can.
Never forget that palestinians are not numbers on a list of deaths. Please think of each of them, think of their names and faces and know that you can help them. I think of them every day. I think of the hopes and dreams they should achieve, I think of their education, their future, and the love they show when they work hard every day to get help. You may feel powerless to stop this genocide, but you have the power to save Abdulsalam and his family. I dream that the day will come soon where they may use their days to rest and recover from what they’ve been through, where they can share a meal and laugh and the children will play, instead of having to use their time to beg the world to listen and help them. We can make this possible.

50 000 euros is a lot of money for one person to give, but for all of us together, it can be done. Please don’t look away.
