Eleventh Fleet AU - Admiral Karyn Faro
This was supposed to be an art post in honor of the anniversary of the release of the Thrawn Trilogy from Legends, but I'm only on the second book, so my opinion on the story has not yet been fully formed.
It was still the May weekend and after such a good cold I wanted a banal, basic rest.
However, I discovered such a thing as photobashes in concept art… And I decided to make a “sketch” for screenshots from the game. It turned out to be a very strange experiment, but the experience was really interesting…
Disclaimer: such a game does not exist… It is unlikely that it will exist.

ngl I always find it wild to see Star Wars stuff that's like "if you think about it in terms of realistic statistics/science then..." about almost any aspect of it.
I mean, what about the Star Wars films gives the impression that this universe abides by realistic statistics, or realistic anything else? SW is broadly a fantasy epic projected onto an IMAX screen with a space background painted on it. Yeah, the planets and moons in the films almost always have improbably limited biomes and two major locations max, because narratively these locations are usually just fantasy city-states with space aesthetics.
Starships travel at the speed of plot and we simply jump past the amount of time that presumably is passing, and sort of imply the passage of that time through shifts in the character dynamics. But this passage of time cannot be analyzed with any kind of consistency because the only logic governing it is the pace of the story.
Just how long did it take the Empire to send a full contingent of forces to Dantooine, search the entire planet, find the Rebel base, and then report back to Tarkin between one scene and another? No one says and no one appears to care. How long did it take Han and Leia to reach Bespin and what exactly went on between them while Luke was, in the same time frame, going through a protracted training over multiple days at an absolute minimum? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
How do giant space worms survive inside asteroids that somehow have an Earth-approximate gravitational field and I guess an atmosphere? Shhhh don't think about it. The point of the sequence is not "how does the giant space worm subsist off this random asteroid and how does it breathe and how does gravity work in this context, seriously" but that the giant worm sequence is fucking sick.
There's probably some after the fact EU justification invented by people who had nothing to do with the original writing of the space worm (or perhaps there are several mutually incompatible explanations) and I am profoundly disinterested in them. Nothing could make this even slightly realistic and it was never intended to be. Star Wars sings space shanties at scientific/mathematical realism as it sails past on a completely different ship going in the exact opposite direction.
And I do mean "sails" because while astronomy might tell us that space is unfamiliar and wild on a level we as Earthbound lifeforms can barely comprehend, Star Wars understands that space is basically an ocean, yet with stars and cool but survivable planets in it, or sometimes it's air but combined with a super cool space background so you can have early 20th century aerial combat that would make no sense in actual space conditions and doesn't need to.
"If you consider relativity, then just running the Empire would be..." General relativity does not govern the galaxy far, far away. Space magic does. I'm not sure there are even time zones.
#hard to overstate the degree to which every attempt to explain#the empire keeping a tentacle monster in a trash compactor for their moon-sized roving death ray murder fortress#just seems incredibly ill-considered. drawing our attention to how weird and improbable all this stuff is does not help#and most people have no trouble accepting bizarre star wars stuff as just part of the 'wacky space fairy tale' logic#there's this really bizarre viral post about how the sw universe actually isn't a fantastic universe bc most inhabitants#would probably never possess or interact with the literal magic imbuing it—but that's missing the basic structural underpinnings#of the story#it doesn't matter how many people can use the force (in the original trilogy very few!) or believe in it or ever see it or anything#the fabric of the story and its setting are governed by fantastic rationales and elements that don't work in rationalistic terms#anghraine babbles#long post#sw fanwank#star wars#sweu critical

the funniest thing about the potc films is that they accidentally crafted a character of truly shakespearean complexity in james norrington. unironically, he's one of the most compelling tragic heroes in film and his epic battle with the story he's in culminates in the absolutely perfect ending
#the potc in general had a knack for accidental genius#norrington. he's not even my favourite character but he stands out so much!#just as an element of the trilogy which is fantastic from minute 1 to the last agonising moment#potc#pirates of the caribbean#james norrington#commodore norrington#norrington

Crossover or miraculous au where gatlon city gets the miraculous wouldn't leave me and between Maggie getting the ladybug and the cat miraculous, she 100% would have the cat. Though if we're being honest she'd also 100% be stealing that jewelry and finding out about what comes along with em ltr haha
Out of all the miraculous she probably wouldn't CHOOSE the cat, given I think the fox or dog would be more helpful, but I do get a kick out of thinking what her interactions with Plagg might be
#love the idea of maggie wholly embracing girlier magical girl esc elements to the powers if she ever got her hands on them#havent come up with a name for her yet#maybe later#and btw yes max would have the ladybug miraculous duh#renegades trilogy#the renegades trilogy#renegades fandom#crossover#miraculous au#miraculous ladybug#ml plagg#plagg#maggie white#evie artino#my art#MDN art tag#renegades fanart

if you guys are following me it is safe to assume you like little creatures. And if you like sci-fi as well as little creatures I cannot recommend this book enough. I’m not finished with it yet but I’m probably like 3/4 of the way through and I’ve loved it so far.
Jeff Vandermeer is the same author that wrote the Area X Trilogy, which the movie Annihilation was based very loosely off of. I also cannot recommend that series enough if you like sci-fi and weird fiction.
#area x trilogy my beloved and now borne my beloved#also if you watched and enjoyed Annihilation pls pls pls read at least the first book in the Area X Trilogy which has the same name#one million times better than the movie could ever hope to be#not really the same story but still has a lot of the same / similar elements#my post#not pets

i wish aa5+6 were direct sequels to aa4, creating an apollo-centric trilogy - maybe something like 5 focusing on klavier and 6 focusing on trucy and apollo's relationship w thalassa. the series would actually be so peak if we had a pheonix trilogy, an apollo trilogy (where phoenix is an important member of the supporting cast), the edgeworth duology, and then tgaa to top it all off....
instead, we have an apollo game - which could have been a major turning point for the series - but then basically everything that made the game good is ignored or sidelined to give us two Not Good phoenix wright games... its so sad! and the worst part is that it really feels like dd + soj has ruined some people's view of aa4 AND killed any momentum the series had for doing anything actually interesting with its characters.... i don't even know if aa7 can 'fix' this, even IF capcom does try to return to a more apollo-centric approach with it - which i unfortunately don't think is possible anyway 😔
#shjdgjdhjdhdkhdihfjfjhdjdhdg got mad listening to the ost....... we seriously could have had it all#aa4 was amazing but... imagine a world where we had a WHOLE TRILOGY to explore the characters.... it would have been EVEN BETTER?????#klavier and trucy i will get you OUT of capcoms basement i prommy 😭😭😭😭😭#also petty complaint but the music in dd and soj isn't good. imo#all of the other games have such cohesive and distinct soundscapes and you can hear the development between ech game and then...#dd and soj have what feels like REALLY generic orchestral music/arrangements. i get that they came out like 6+ years after aa4#and i wasnt expecting anything like the older 8-bit(?) sound but... there had to have been a way to preserve some of the unique musical#elements... like COME ON 😭😭#ace attorney#L.txt

You can find the uqiz here.
Samuel Who (The UnTitledverse)
Lucifer's advisor in the Pride Ring of Hell and often balances the line between designated caretaker and younger brother figure. Samuel's soul was unfairly sent to Hell by a wicked man by the name of Edward Carmine, ending Samuel's existence on the mortal realm before it could progress further. Samuel has had time to adjust to Hell's rules and his position, and is on his way to opening up more to the lifestyle, the denizens and his companions.
Nadi Sinclair (Far Cry The Silver Chronicles)
After her childhood had been ripped away from her and later losing loved ones in Task Force 141 due to Shepard and Shadow Company's betrayal, Nadi had left the task force and proceeded to find a life off the grid, her distrust and disgust towards the greed and warmongering in the American Government eventually drawing her to the Project at Eden's Gate, where she meets the charming (if sometimes frustrating) John Seed. He brings forth feelings that she never got to feel as a child nor as a soldier, and yet, has a massive fear of losing him (whether to forces outside of her control or because of her own self-perceived vices and flaws), leading her to only adore from afar. This becomes ten-times worse when she meets a newly single Holly Pepper, a pragmatic and devoted, if sometimes snarky, member of Eden's Gate. This bisexual disaster has two free hands but can't grab for shit. I think this fits her perfectly.
Sonya, The Apex (Life, Despair & Monsters)
So I've decided to give Sonya mommy issues, which may or may not contribute in her attraction and her (initially unhealthy) relationship with Jennifer (granted, Jennifer is helping matters). Though both learn that, below their hard-shelled and rotten surfaces, are two people capable of loving each other beyond manipulation and usefulness. But that makes them an unholy matrimony obsessed with each other instead so there's no telling whether it has made them better or worse.
And lastly...
Azriel (Wings And Horns, Far Cry The Silver Chronicles)
Azriel has never really had a great experience with love. She is the reincarnation of Joseph Seed's daughter after all. A reincarnation she earned by serving the concept of Death itself for either one hundred or one thousand years. She came back into the world a decade after her original death, and was born into a home that didn't understand her, and the forced transition into Eden's Gate didn't make it any better. Even worse when her parents attempted to sacrifice her during the Reaping to show their devotion. Thankfully, she meets Silva, who shapes and mellows out the young girl into a brilliant young woman who would make Jannah proud. There's also her massive and obvious crush on Gavin's mite (re: a Tumultite word for "child"), Schrödinger Turquoise.

Anyone else have this weird hitch in their mind where they think, "Oh, I can't work on that fic. I've got too much going on and I'd have to use ALL my brain power for that." Not in the perfectionist sense but in the "HOLY SHIT THAT FIC WOULD CONSUME MY LIFE AND I CAN'T GIVE INTO THAT" sense???
It's very frustrating. I have a hard time believing that's the only way to write the damn thing. Yet the resistance I feel is... strong, to say the least :/
#this is about my bileven trilogy :(#i care about that fic so much#there's something elemental about it. something that goes right to the heart of who i am#it got me through the pandemic bc i had all the time i wanted to obsess over it#and i srsly obsessed. i have three binders of notes from that time 😭#it's like my brain is convinced we can only work on it again if we're living in the same conditions#which is unfortunate because they will probably never happen again lol#personal

I think being a fan of InuYasha has awakened in me a craving for mythology series where it's always an adventure focusing on a human befriending/falling in love with a mythical person from the mythology. Doesn't matter what kind of media it is, if it's like InuYasha, I'm like "sign me up".
Like seriously, my favorite series aside from InuYasha are literally Kamisama Kiss, The Red Winter Trilogy, the Guild Codex: Demonized (not exactly mythology per se, but it's still a human x mythical person adventure series) and now I'm about to watch the Kdrama Tale of the Nine-Tails on Netflix. Literally InuYasha as a series has awakened in me a craving for the mythology fiction genre and I can't even be mad about it.
#i literally have no idea what to expect from this drama other than a romance#I saw someone compare it to Inuyasha and it was giving me Red Winter vibes so I kind of NEED to check it out#wish me luck!#was gonna mention Percy Jackson too but both Percy & Annabeth are demigods so its not really a human x mythical person relationship per se#but just know that's a favorite series of mine too#also I've also drawn to series that have time travel fantasy elements to them too bc of IY in hindsight as well now that I think about it🤔#there's Kamisama Kiss again. Faith/The Great Doctor. King Arthur and Her Knights. & apparently TOTNT also has a time travel 2nd season too?#I blame IY for this but I can't even be upset about it#inuyasha#kagome higurashi#inukag#kamisama hajimemashita#kamisama kiss#the red winter trilogy#red winter trilogy#the guild codex#the guild codex demonized#tale of the nine tailed#anime#books#kdrama#mythology genre#asian mythology#fantasy#human x monster#human x demon#human x mythological person#netflix

i keep thinking about rocket’s “there ain’t no thing like me ‘cept me” and how it’s presented initially as an indicator of who he is—his mouthiness, his independence, his absolute lack of knowledge of what a raccoon looks like—and like. it is those things! it is! but it’s also — yeah, so, the first time we hear it, there’s a hint of story behind it, like: who or what made rocket this?
and now we know it’s the high evolutionary, and now we know the other layer to that statement: yeah, rocket’s confident when he says there’s no thing like him, because a) they were all individual experiments for the same cause but b) because rocket, and therefore the ones ‘like’ him, were classified as defective, and he knows the high evolutionary killed them all
#gotg3#gotg v3#rocket gotg#mcu#gotg spoilers#i watched this movie twice in two weeks and i keep thinking abt starmora and nebulantis#but also for obvious reasons the question of identity and agency#rocket obviously being the central figure in that but it’s the theme for literally every character arc#it’s not many trilogy finales that are about characters discovering who they are but here we go#actually it does fit the mould of mcu trilogies#normally the third one takes away the crutch#im3 takes away tony’s suit; ragnarok the hammer; cacw the shield and the team#mcu final acts of trilogies take away the wrapping and ask you who you are at your core. what makes you a hero#it’s kinda fascinating that for the guardians‚ it’s ostensibly rocket#given for five years he didn’t have any of them except nebula#ofc it’s more than just him—they all are grappling with loss even less tangibly than the time bomb in his chest#but he’s certainly a significant element. which makes the ending hierarchy soooooo like.
