I think it is safe to declare Hot French Autumn officially over now. I still have at least four physical books I didn't get to, but I also have some French things to recommend now that I didn't before, so, all in all, a win. Now I'll just have to repeat this stunt with German, but that' a question for the next year.

The rest: A Dickens Christmas story collection I found on my old bookshelf in my parents' house (?? I had no idea it existed, I swear), a Christmas horror anthology because Tradition, and a collection of Christmas-y Sherlock Holmes stories I picked up at random in Germany. I usually avoid translations between languages I know, but this time, I couldn't resist.

So yeah. Lots of short stories. And of course Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. THE TOLKIEN TRANSLATION.

Growing Pains

as raven finally gets to be free from her shackles, apple silently chooses to shoulder all the pain that comes their way and bear the burdens of dealing with the horrors of the world so that raven can be happy. because raven has suffered so much and apple decides it’s only fair that she do all she can to prevent raven from any further suffering. it’s her way of atoning for all the hurt she caused raven, because apple knows raven has been and always will be a better person than her. to apple, if either of them deserves to smile, it’s raven.

In anticipation for the ending of my hero academia, I gotta say: man, is anyone remembering that one time that one beloved book series about a wizarding school ended with the flawed government staying exactly the same, everyone having kids and naming them after killed off characters, and the protagonist becoming a cop?

"Varric used to be mean and a centrist" the first time we meet Varric is roughly 20 years prior to Veilguard, and the Varric in Inquisition, who we see become a responsible father figure to Cole, is from 10 years prior to Veilguard

i think its' actually very fortunate that we got to see Varric grow from being a carefree, kind of jerky guy running a spy network in Kirkwall to someone who learns that he has the power to change the world for the better to make a safer place for him and his friends to live in, and also that he feels good when he knows he can be responsible for other people

just a thought idk. i see so many complaints about missing DA2 Varric as though he didnt see Kirkwall's destruction firsthand. he's really shaken by it in Inqusition dialogue and banter, he developed as a character. this isn't a new sudden change brought on by veilguard

Jedediah, stand-up style: So I'm in the saloon, drinking and talking, having my fill at the counter. Someone brings up the Romans as an example for something I'm too drunk to remember, and suddenly now we're discussing the Centurion legions and their strategies. (We're mostly talking shit about them.) I kid you not, the next second there are muffled Latin yells. Or I guess that's what I'm hearing. We all stop to listen, other people 'round me are tense like I am, so I say, 'Don't worry it's just me hearing noises'. And they've took it seriously! Jedediah points at husband: Until this guy, shows up just in front of the saloon's swinging doors. All I could have seen was a Centurion helmet, metal armor shaped like a human torso, and red clothing. Right? But I was drunk as hell, barely seeing out of my face, all I could see was a huge cock! -scomb. Funniest shit I've ever seen... Anyways that's how I've met your mother Roman General.
