So I decided to start reading "Worlds' Finest" again (you know, the one with Helena Wayne) because I barely remember what was in it and when I was reading it the first time I was skipping lots of issues so I definitely missed a lot of story details...
And while reading I realized that a lot of people love bringing up that part where Helena meets Damian and they agree to work together for some time... And I don't blame these people, their moments look pretty wholesome:

However... I don't think I've ever seen people even mention Helena's reaction to Damian's death. To be fair I also skipped this part when I was reading it the first time, but still... I think someone has to talk about it.

I like the way Zombies are represented in Manga recently! ZOM100 and Everyone is *ing (everyone is dying) reflect the mental health crisis in modern Japan due to overwork.
First one is shonen: ZOM100 specifically is about doing what you want to instead of living a fake unhappy life of overwork. It's bright and positive while really highlighting how bad society got before the end of the world. But I guess that one is more about not wanting to become a zombie and wanting to truly live
But the other one...
Everyone is *ing is seinen. It's about people dying, but they keep going, not eating or sleeping and taking preservatives to stop from deteriorating. Some people don't realize they've died. And when they find out, there's a surreal air about how the world isn't freaking out about this?? There are zombies walking around, some embracing the gore of it with fashion that surrounds rot, and he has to go back to work the next day and break it to his coworkers that he's been dead for a week. This story is exactly about how alienating it is to have mental health issues, a sickness with no cure and makes you feel like less of a person. It goes so fucking hard.
I think it’s kinda a shame how far zombies got from their source material
Don’t get me wrong, I like the way that they evolve over time reflects the fears of the people in that time period, but I still wish there was more of a connection to its source
So (this is just a really quick recap but I encourage everyone to go read up on more of it), zombies originated from Haiti (specifically Haitian slaves), and they weren’t violent, they were corpses reanimated against their will to continue being slaves, and the fear surrounding them was about becoming one, having your restful sleep stolen from you, and not being able to have that peace in death because of some jackass with magic
And yeah nowadays there’s a fear in being bitten, but idk, it’s less about the fear of becoming part of the horde and more about the fear of being torn apart by the horde, it’s not like how werewolves agonize over being werewolves, and I think it should be more like werewolves
Like even when a person has been bitten and is slowly becoming a zombie, it’s not really framed from their perspective of the fear of losing themselves and not being able to rest in peace, it’s always framed from the perspective of their loved one coming to terms that they may have to kill them to protect themselves
“Oh hell is full so that’s why the dead roam the earth” those are good people!!! who had their eternal rest robbed from them!!!!
I just. I just wish that killing a zombie was more about having mercy on them

you know what boils my blood.
over the last 2 weeks, i've seen countless patients walk into my urgent care center, symptomatic for so many things, refusing to get tested for covid and flu, citing that they don't want to knowingly bring it to their holiday tables. i had a patient tell me, verbatim, "i don't want to test for covid, because i don't want to be the asshole who brings it on a plane."
i understand that - i understand that holidays are times where people look forward to meeting loved ones that they might only see once a year, or where they get a break from the hectic back and forth of their lives.
but here's the thing - whether they get tested or not, they will bring whatever they have to their holiday tables. it's pure recklessness to know that you're sick, and walk into someone else's house spreading the disease.
today, january 2, i saw 91 patients, many of them who have tested positive for covid and flu. many of these patients are the same ones who didn't want testing 3 days ago, until their events were over, and now, they will have to reach out to everyone they know to let them know that they were positive because they were showing symptoms well before their event.
the next week or two? we're going to see many, many more, all people with symptoms that started around christmas. these are the only two viruses we test for rapidly in our office, but they are potent and can be fatal in many people.
so here's why i wrote this post, and maybe it's a little late, but - if you care about your loved ones, please get tested if you know you're sick. it doesn't have to be at a clinic if you don't want it to, because the over-the-counter tests work just fine too (if you test within 5-7 days of symptom onset). just...please don't try to run from the knowledge that you might have covid, because immunocompromised people, elderly people, people with co-morbidities like asthma, pregnancy, diabetes, etc...many of them may not recover. and they may not be sitting at your holiday table in the future because of it.

This guy who is incredibly important to me is going out of state for a month for some diagnostic testing, and he had a talk with me today about what is going on with him. He got diagnosed with COPD a couple months ago and I was only a little worried because people can still live a pretty long time with COPD ( he's only 40+) and it was kinda a joke to us cause he has always been sorta falling apart ( he has gout and bones that healed bad and had shingles for a bit). But this new thing has me super fucked up. He's been having a really hard time controlling his body and has been shaking violently (think Parkinsons), and he has been in incredible pain. The thing that fucks me right the fuck up is that he is much much better at night than the day and that reminds me so much like Lou Gehrig's to me. I lost my aunt to ALS and it was the most horrific thing I have ever seen happen to a person. It probably isn't but I can't watch something like that happen to him. He is the most incredible guitarist I have ever seen and what if he can't play anymore? It's really his whole life; he loves playing guitar so fucking much. He's already had to make concessions for his singing because of his COPD. But I think losing guitar too would completely break him. When he was telling me all this, he was so scared. I could see it in his eyes and hear it in his voice. He always tries to be a grown-up around me, so I've rarely seen him with any negative emotions showing, but tonight, he was completely terrified. I don't know. I'm just really scared of him dying. I've never been particularly religious, but God, if you exist, I can't watch another person die slowly and horribly. Please, stop taking people away from me. I can't watch someone else disappear and become a living corpse. I'm begging you. Please. Please. Please.

I know we like writing fics where Jason is all "I'm not the kid you lost" and "he died and I'm all the worst parts of him that came back" and whatever. but lately I've been thinking about a Jason that's angry bc everyone thinks he came back wrong, because to him, he's the same as he's always been. sure, he's more upset and angry and traumatized, but he's still Jason.
I've been thinking about a Jason that spent most of the time since his death underground and then catatonic. to him, hardly any time has passed at all. to his family, three years have gone by. and Jason knows he looks different than he did, and he knows he's sharper around the edges, now, but he's still Jason. he's the same kid that died and now he's back and why doesn't anyone see that?
they're the ones that changed, not him

thinking of a scene idea in season three when the gang encounters aphrodite. and one of the experienced half-bloods like thalia or zoe or grover are explaining to bianca how aphrodite's physical form is unique for each person. beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that. and the camera just pans over to percy whose overhearing this conversation and staring at aphrodite. and its revealed that aphrodite has taken the form of annabeth in percy's eyes. confirmation for the audience and for percy that his feelings for annabeth are a little ways past friendship.
