She's a tired old lady who's the epitome of the "stern librarian" trope. She has a secret basement full of arcane knowledge and trinkets. When her library went up in flames, she took a deal that lead to all of its knowledge being stored directly in her mind. Like every other Don't Starve character, she needs to survive in the wilderness of The Constant and fight off horrible monsters. She has horrible insomnia and a delicate stomach, but she can also cast incredibly powerful spells by crafting books.

She refers to most things by their scientific names, and even used to run a bookmobile. She also has an affinity for cute animals, and used to have a cat before the whole "getting trapped in a nightmare realm with no way home" thing.

she's the quintessential insufferable old hag to me. she reminds me of my self-centred grandmother in all of the worst ways, up to and including that obnoxious cheetah jumper. she is hopelessly infatuated with multiple playable protagonists who, unfortunately for her, aren't exactly into MILFs. in one of the latest games, she pretends (unprompted) to be the player's date to narrowly avoid a bloody conflict between some dangerously riled-up yakuza in the middle of a restaurant... and then overpowers him with kisses once they're gone. but, above all, she can be recruited by the player to serve as one of the best hostesses at their club! TWICE!

players will often perform simple model swaps on their games to replace etsuko's (and sometimes the player's) model with someone else's and let this clip play out https://youtu.be/qgvgOvx5S3w&t=130 so it looks like their OTP hugging obnoxiously in the street, but i don't know if that counts as propaganda for etsuko specifically
