They'd grown up under the shadow of war as much as everyone else they know. There was no way around it.

They'd been taught how to hide, how to take a safe shape and protect themself. Principality attacks very rarely made it that far into Branched space, but now and then there was a scare. They never heard any of its horrors until they were older; this did not stop them from knowing what it was. It was a looming thing that threatened the horizon, a dreadful anguish that revealed none of its details. It was the thing that came to kill them. It was the thing that everyone talked about, whispered when they thought the children weren't listening. It was why people came back hurt and angry and why some never came back at all. It seeped its sickening way into everything. It was too close, too horribly close, and yet also still too far away.

War was always there. Phrygian had been safe, but it had always been there. Violence was suggested and only ever suggested. It would reach in and take things away, sometimes.

Their third and fourth guardians had gone to fight, eventually. So had Frisson's second. So had Epicene's cousins, Outclass' caregiver, Incipience and Maculate's nurturer, Diastema's old friend; so had their classmates and acquaintances, so had Frisson themself. Phrygian had always felt like they'd lost part of their friend, back then. Even before they lost them for good.

Explaining it was never easy. There was no denying it was happening. Phrygian doesn't envy their parents – doesn't envy anyone's parents, really. How do you explain something so vast, so hideously awful? How do you explain something so unfair? How do you explain it when the messages home suddenly stop coming? How do you answer when an inquisitive child looks at it all and asks why?

Loving someone is the most important thing, when you have to fight, their fourth parent had said, brushing against the back of Phrygian's stormcloud. They'd long since outgrown that body, but it was hard to care as they cried and raged. I will always love you, little hauntsong. It will keep me together as long as I live.

They remember that often, around here. It always hurt to think about. Sometimes it hurts less, now, because they've learned to make sense of it. They understand the choice; they can nearly imagine making it themself. It isn't the incomprehensible loss and upset that it once had been. It just makes them feel resigned.

That scares them, sometimes.

A/N: this is just something random both to help me feel better and to write something since I haven’t wrote in weeks lmao- reader is gender neutral!

Chuuya loves to spoil you.

You’ve never been the one to ask for anything, and he wonders if it feeds into why he’s so ready to give you everything you want.

It could be something as small as a new book you’ve been wanting to read, or an outfit that caught your eye when you were both out on a date- you barely bat your eyes and Chuuya is already pulling you into the store, taking out his wallet.

Fancy dates at restaurants you would never dream of dining at, lavish clothes that had way too many zeros on the price tag, even flying out of Yokohama for the first time- the list goes on and on.

Chuuya senses your hesitation whenever he tries to give you gifts, and he can read you well to see why. You stress to him that he doesn’t have to do all of this, that you don’t want him to think that you’re relationship hinges on being materialistic, but he already knows. He’s not doing this because he has to, he’s doing it because he wants to. You deserve the best, and he makes it his mission to give you that.

You scold him every time he spoils you by surprise (which it’s starting to happen so much it really shouldn’t be surprising anymore), and all he does is laugh and press his lips against yours. He knows that you can get it yourself, but why when he can just get it for you now? He doesn’t have this black card for nothing, and he rather spend it all on you anyway (even if it’s on the small stuff you can get yourself).

And Chuuya knows that you appreciate it every time too.

He’ll do everything in his power to give you the world and more.

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!! <3

Wanted to draw a bunch of different pairings so here we go!! I wanted to draw them on how I imagine their dates with each other would go.

Fred and Shaggy started out on a walk but halfway through Fred saw a place they caught a bad guy once and started reminiscing on their good times spent together and who is Shaggy to complain, they definitely went to get food after it though.

Daphne and Fred went to a screening at the Coolsville local cinema where they were showing one of the first ever 3D movies. When the movie is over Fred spends the rest of their date talking about how impressive the improvements to 3D films have been since they were first invented. Daphne doesn't mind that much since she still gets to cuddle and they also probably went to get food after it where Daphne assigns their friends roles in the movie they just watched.

Shaggy and Daphne went to a football game where Shaggy gets to eat very many football game foods such as Hotdogs and whatever else they eat at football games. Daphne isn't even rooting for a team cause at first she wasn't sure about going but it hits halftime and she's caught up in the atmosphere and uses the celebration of any of the teams scoring as an excuse to kiss Shaggy.

Velma and Daphne are working on very important mystery solving and journalism career things on their laptops so they don't have time to go on a date date HOWEVER that will not stop them from flirting through messages as they work. Daphne sends Velma things like videos and songs that remind her of her and Velma can't flirt back so she just sends hearts like a disaster lesbian, good for her tbh.
