Mayday did not speak to anyone on Pabu for a long time. He didn't talk about how long it had taken his internal injuries to heal or the huge amount of effort put forth by his brothers to rescue him and get him away from the Empire simply so he could heal and have a chance.

He lived right next to you in a small house that had been rebuilt since that giant wave destroyed lower Pabu. You smiled at him as he came and went and it took him a little while, but he started to smile at you too. This turned into a nod and a smile and eventually he came over and said hello. You shook his hand and offered him help with anything he needed. He felt overwhelmed by this, crosshed his arms, and then thanked you before hiding away in his home.

Months went by and slowly he opened up a bit more. He didn't talk about what brought him here, but you knew he was a clone and you knew he had been through a lot.

One day you were gardening and he peeked out his window to watch. Mayday had never helped anything grow, not in the way he wanted. He'd always done his job and followed orders. He felt he was built for destruction and so seeing you help things to live and thrive warmed his heart.

"Do you, uh, need any help," he asked as he stepped outside.

"Sure," you replied.

You showed him the basics and he started helping you repot some plants and tend to some others. It became an every day thing. He found it relaxing and really enjoyed your company. You opened up to him, wanting him to know you and not be a stranger. He started opening up too. What it was like being a clone and having a shared understanding, then losing part of your identity in a way once the war ended, and then coming to a place where everyone is different and has varying experiences. How overwhelming it could be for him at times, but that he was trying.

"You're doing great, Mayday."

He looked up at you, eyebrows knit, heart thumping. "You think so?"

"Of course. I'm sure it will take time, but I'm glad you're here."

He smiled at you, cleared his throat, and you both got back to work.

This... annnoooooonnnnn this is so damn perfect!! You crammed character growth and healing and the beginnings of a super sweet something in under 400 words, and I love you so much.

Gonna wrap Mayday up in pure happiness and warmth, and teach him all about gardening, and comfort him when things get too much, and and and

Yes, trans men and mascs have historically been subjected to less public violence and ridicule than trans women and fems. Is having privilege really the only reason you can think of for that? Have you considered that they had less ability to be publicly visible in the first place? Please remember that the lack of autonomy women have historically been granted also applies to transmascs. They would have been considered the property of men. Spousal rape wasn't illegal everywhere in my country until 1993. How easy do you think it would be for forcibly impregnated transmascs to transition? For abused transmascs in general? Do you think they were all even allowed out of the house often without a man? There are so many stories of transmascs being forcibly institutionalized for being trans. Is that situation and otherwise being quietly abused and erased really so much better than hypervisibility?
