Roofing Contractors Dudley: Exceptional Service and Quality Workmanship
When it comes to maintaining the integrity and safety of your home, few aspects are as crucial as a well-maintained roof. In Dudley, where the weather can be unpredictable, having a reliable roofing contractor is essential for ensuring that your roof remains in top condition. Roofing contractors Dudley offer a range of services designed to address various roofing needs, from repairs and maintenance to full roof replacements. Understanding what to look for in a roofing contractor and the benefits of exceptional service and quality workmanship can help you make informed decisions about your roofing projects.
Understanding the Role of Roofing Contractors
Roofing contractors play a pivotal role in the upkeep and repair of your roof. They are skilled professionals who specialize in a range of roofing services, including installations, repairs, and maintenance. Their expertise is crucial for addressing common roofing problems such as leaks, damaged shingles, and structural issues. By hiring a professional contractor, you ensure that your roof is handled with the care and precision necessary to protect your home.
One of the key responsibilities of roofing contractors is to conduct thorough inspections of your roof. These inspections help identify potential problems that might not be immediately visible. Contractors assess the condition of roofing materials, check for signs of wear and tear, and evaluate the overall structure of the roof. This proactive approach allows them to address issues before they escalate, preventing more serious damage and costly repairs.
Benefits of Hiring Professional Roofing Contractors
Opting for professional roofing services offers several advantages over attempting DIY repairs or hiring unqualified individuals. One significant benefit is the expertise that professional contractors bring to the table. They possess in-depth knowledge of roofing systems and materials, enabling them to diagnose problems accurately and recommend effective solutions. Their experience ensures that repairs and installations are performed correctly, which extends the lifespan of your roof and improves its overall performance.
Another advantage is access to high-quality materials and advanced techniques. Professional roofing contractors use top-grade materials that are designed to withstand the elements and provide long-lasting protection. They also employ the latest roofing techniques and technologies to ensure that work is completed efficiently and to industry standards. This commitment to quality contributes to the durability and effectiveness of your roof.
Choosing the Right Roofing Contractor
Selecting the right roofing contractor is crucial for achieving exceptional service and quality workmanship. Several factors should be considered when making your choice. Reputation is one of the most important criteria. Look for contractors with a proven track record of successful projects and positive feedback from previous clients. A strong reputation indicates reliability and competence.
It is also important to verify the contractors qualifications. Ensure that they are licensed and insured, as this demonstrates their adherence to industry standards and provides protection in case of accidents or damage. A licensed contractor has met the necessary requirements and is authorized to perform roofing work, while insurance coverage safeguards you from potential liabilities.
Obtaining multiple quotes is another effective way to ensure you’re getting value for your money. By comparing quotes from different contractors, you can evaluate the cost of services and determine which contractor offers the best combination of price and quality. However, it’s essential to consider factors beyond cost, such as the contractor’s experience, the materials they use, and the warranties they offer.
The Importance of Quality Workmanship
Quality workmanship is a critical factor in the success of any roofing project. Well-executed work ensures that your roof performs optimally and lasts for many years. Professional roofing contractors pay close attention to detail and adhere to best practices in roofing installation and repair. This meticulous approach helps prevent common issues such as leaks, poor insulation, and inadequate ventilation.
In addition to technical skills, quality workmanship also involves effective communication and customer service. Professional contractors prioritize clear communication with clients, providing detailed explanations of the work to be done, the materials to be used, and the expected timeline. They also address any concerns or questions clients may have, ensuring that they are fully informed and satisfied with the services provided.
Maintaining Your Roof
Proper maintenance is key to prolonging the life of your roof and avoiding frequent repairs. Roofing contractors play a vital role in maintaining your roof through regular inspections and preventive measures. Routine inspections help identify minor issues before they become major problems. Contractors can perform tasks such as cleaning gutters, checking for damaged shingles, and assessing the condition of flashing to ensure that your roof remains in good condition.
In addition to professional maintenance, homeowners can take steps to care for their roofs. Keeping gutters clean and free of debris is essential for proper drainage and preventing water damage. Trimming overhanging branches can reduce the risk of damage from falling limbs and minimize the growth of moss and algae on the roof. Proper ventilation and insulation also contribute to the overall health of your roof, improving energy efficiency and preventing moisture-related issues.
Handling Emergency Roofing Issues
Roofing contractors are also equipped to handle emergency situations that may arise due to severe weather or unexpected damage. During storms or high winds, roofs can suffer from sudden damage that requires immediate attention. Professional contractors are prepared to respond quickly to emergency repair needs, providing temporary solutions to protect your home until more permanent repairs can be made.
Emergency repairs might involve securing damaged areas, covering leaks with protective materials, or replacing broken shingles. Addressing these issues promptly is crucial for preventing further damage and safeguarding the interior of your home.
Conclusion
Roofing contractors in Dudley provide essential services for maintaining the integrity and safety of your home. Their expertise in roofing installation, repair, and maintenance ensures that your roof remains in optimal condition, protecting your property from the elements and enhancing its longevity. By choosing a reputable contractor and prioritizing quality workmanship, you can achieve exceptional results that contribute to the overall health and value of your home.
Selecting the right contractor involves considering factors such as reputation, qualifications, and the quality of work. Professional roofing contractors offer significant advantages, including access to high-quality materials, advanced techniques, and effective communication. Regular maintenance and prompt attention to emergency repairs further ensure the durability and performance of your roof.
Investing in professional roofing services is an investment in the long-term well-being of your home. With the right roofing contractor, you can enjoy peace of mind knowing that your roof is in capable hands and that your home is well-protected against the challenges of weather and time.

Hundreds of roofing contractors from across the United States and beyond traveled to South Florida to be part of RC’s 15th annual Best of Success conference at the J.W. Marriott Miami Turnberry Resort & Spa in September.
RC Publisher Jill Bloom kicked off the event reminding attendees of the event’s history and overall mission to help roofing contractors improve their businesses.
“The first Best of Success conference launched with 75 people, in Myrtle Beach, S.C., and wow! Look where we are today,” Bloom said while looking out at the crowd of more than 550 attendees. “We go back and forth between the East Coast, West Coast and sometimes the central U.S., and peer-to-peer sharing is the foundation of what we do.”
Bloom also touched on recent inspiration provided by serial entrepreneur and business coach Jesse Itzler, who delivered the keynote address at the 2019 International Roofing Expo in Nashville. During his speech, Itzler talked about his experience of hiring a former U.S. Navy SEAL to live with his family for 30 days, which he later turned into a book.
“The stories he shared, and the life-changing takeaways from the experience truly made an impact and made me think about what we’ve done here at Best of Success for 15 years,” Bloom said. “What struck me from his book is you can do so much more than you realize if you just stretch yourself. I mean mental barriers we put on ourselves that we don’t even realize.”

Gender Gap
The unique roofing industry experience began with multiple events before the conference’s official start, including a workshop organized by National Women in Roofing (NWIR) that focused on how women can assert and articulate their ideas effectively in the workplace. Roughly two dozen women were treated to a presentation by Thea Dudley, of Pocket Protectors LLC, titled “Know Your Worth at Work (and how to leverage it).”
Dudley, who previously served as vice president of customer financial relations at SRS Distribution, presented eye-opening statistics about women in the workforce, including how women make up only 19 percent of C-suite executives. She said part of this stems from how, if someone doesn’t believe in themselves or their career goals, then they can’t expect others to believe in them.
“If you think of yourself as a product, whether you work for a company or yourself, you’re a product, and what you have to market is your skills and yourself and what you bring to the table,” Dudley said.
Dudley provided advice on how to become a self-promoter and accomplish career goals, from conducting honest self-evaluations to keeping a career journal to chronicle career highlights.
“Don’t worry so much about career pathing, be a strategic opportunist, and shameless self-promotion is your friend,” Dudley said. “It’s okay to toot your own horn.”
During the event, NWIR representatives announced the organization is rolling out a new program for members to become mentors or mentees. Members can update their profiles to list themselves as a mentor or mentee, and upon doing so, can search for a match using criteria like department or company.
Michelle Boykin, COO of Rackley Roofing, spoke highly of mentorship, saying it is important for women in the industry to find other women to lean on and learn from.
“Had I not joined NWIR years ago I wouldn’t be where I am today,” said Boykin, who serves as NWIR Treasurer. “If you’re not utilizing it to be your best self, I encourage you to do that today.”
Time to Connect
As the roofing industry continues to evolve, so does the Best of Success conference as an event. Those that arrived early were again greeted with a welcome reception on the outskirts of one of the resort’s elegant outdoor pools. That was just the warm-up to the annual networking reception along the picturesque golf course following the first day’s festivities.
New this year, RC added additional time after the close of day one for a Speaker Connect session. All roofing professionals scheduled to present over the two days were stationed at small tables set up just outside the main conference area to answer questions and meet other attendees face-to-face.
“We wanted to give our speakers more of an opportunity to engage with roofing contractors and the feedback was tremendous,” Bloom said. “This helped advance the learning piece of Best of Success, while also giving attendees a better opportunity to meet presenters and drill down on their topic of expertise.”
Big Winners
RC continued its annual tradition of announcing the Residential and Commercial Roofing Contractors of the Year at the conclusion of day one of the 15th Best of Success conference.
Kelly Roofing, of Bonita Springs, Fla., was named the 2019 Residential Roofing Contractor of the Year, and Don Kennedy Roofing, of Nashville, earned the 2019 Commercial Roofing Contractor of the Year designation.
RC Editorial Director Rick Damato and Editor Art Aisner delivered the awards before a packed ballroom of more than 500 roofing professionals in attendance.
Roughly 100 contractors from across the country submitted applications for the award earlier this year.
“Ken has a great roofing story, from being thrust into leadership at such a young age to navigating a family business through ups and downs over decades,” said Bloom. “But beyond his business success, he’s the kind of guy you want to surround yourself with because he’s organized, motivating and inspirational.”
Kelly, who took over his father’s business, was thrilled to accept the award, and made sure his first call after receiving it was to his father.
“This is one of those moments where you say to yourself, ‘You arrived,’” Kelly said. “This is the Super Bowl of the industry.”
Kennedy said he was just as humbled for the honor and to be able to share it with most of his family in attendance. He also presented his company’s story the following day during a presentation.
“It was a great surprise,” Kennedy said. “This is just a summation of everything that the people we work with has come together and they’ve created a great thing.”
In presenting the award to Kennedy, Damato noted how all of Kennedy’s employees work and act like they are the owners, and how the business constantly strives to better itself.
“This business had everything in order, it was focused on getting better. It’s more than a family business, it’s a family,” Damato said. “Consistently managing to attract the best people is one of the many reasons it makes our 2019 Commercial Contractor of the Year so special.”
The Roofing Technology Think Tank (RT3) awarded Rackely Roofing President Curtis Sutton with its first-ever Innovator of the Year Award during day one of RC’s Best of Success.
RT3 is a group of progressive roofing professionals focused on technology solutions in the roofing industry. The group provides insights from progressive thought leaders both inside and outside the roofing industry along with practical resources for implementing potential solutions successfully.
Charles Antis, founder and CEO of Antis Roofing & Waterproofing, along with Anna Anderson, CEO of Art Unlimited, presented the award. Anderson, who serves as Award Task Team Leader and an RT3 board member, said it was difficult selecting the first recipient of the new award.
“We had many great nominations and it was very hard to narrow the field down to just one,” said Anderson. “We selected Rackley Roofing because they embrace technology and have demonstrated that they are early adopters when it comes to implementing new innovations.”
Sutton brings a respect for the traditional craftsmanship of a professional roofer and passion for the latest technological innovations. Under his leadership, Rackley has introduced industry-leading technologies like Rackley RoofCheck and Rackley RoofView. Rackley has implemented the use of virtual reality safety headsets that allow everyone to experience being on a roof and learn best safety practices. The company is beginning the use of in-ear translators that can translate speech into any language and dialect.
“We are in total control of who we hire, but as far as technology, we have to seek outside the business doors, and at times, outside of the roofing industry to look at the world to see who does what best,” Sutton said.
Following the success of last year’s inaugural Social Media Star award recognizing the attendee with the best engagement on social media, RC partnered again with No Time for Social and tracked use of the #BOSConf hashtag over the two-day period. For his efforts, John Kenney of Sutter Roofing in Florida earned his company three months of Social Media Stockpile, a customizable program for contractors that offers a full complement of social media content.

West Midlands companies sentenced after workers exposed to risk of falling from height
Two companies have been fined after putting workers at risk of falling whilst accessing a roof to repair pipework.
Dudley Magistrates’ Court heard how, on 12 April 2016, contractors who worked for Kingswinford Engineering Co Limited had been hired to repair a section of pipework on the roof of a warehouse in Bilston owned by James Durrans & Sons’ Limited.
The court heard how workers had climbed onto the roof from a ‘man-cage’ lifted into position by a fork lift truck. The ‘man-cage’ fell short of the roof level by about three feet and there was a gap between the cage and the roof which workers needed to climb across. Once the workers were on the roof, it was slippery and wet, with no barrier in place to prevent a fall.
An investigation by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) identified failings in relation to how the work, specifically access to the roof, was planned, managed and monitored. In particular, neither company had undertaken a suitable and sufficient risk assessment, nor had they agreed a safe system of work for the repair of the pipework which required access to the roof. Instead each company had assumed that the other had put into place systems that would protect workers from the risks of working at height.
Kingswinford Engineering Co Limited of Shaw Road, Dudley pleaded guilty to breaching Section 2(1) of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 and has been fined £18,000 and ordered to pay costs of £9,000.
James Durrans & Sons Limited of Anchor Road, Bilston pleaded guilty to breaching Section 3(1) of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 and has been fined £100,000 and ordered to pay costs of £20,000.
Speaking after the case, HSE inspector Edward Fryer commented:
“This incident highlights the need for contractors to be managed properly. Both the contractors and those engaging them must assess the risks of the site and the specific work to ensure it can be done safely. In this case, no risk assessment was carried out and arrangements made to access the roof put workers at significant risk of falling from height.”

The Caban – Bangor University
Heading into Bangor once again on a rainy afternoon, I noticed this unusual looking sculpture at Bangor University.
It is called The Caban. Seems like the locals don’t really like it.
Unveiled in 2016. It was sculpted by Joep van Lieshout.
Something to do with Quarrymen.
This view from near Storiel.
Main Building of Bangor University.
Grade I Listed Building
Road University College of North Wales Main Building (Original Courtyard Ranges only)
History
The University was founded in 1884 after the city of Bangor was chosen as the University’s North Wales site. First established of the former Penrhyn Arms Hotel; the present Penrallt site was donated in 1902.
Built 1907-11 by Henry T Hare, architect of London; chosen following a competition assessed by Sir Aston Webb and with other entrants including W D Caroe. The designs were modified by the University (Isambard Owen in particular) to take full advantage of the site. Contractors were Messrs Thornton and Sons of Liverpool; cost ca £175,000. Foundation stone laid by Edward VII on 9 July 1907; opened 14 June 1911.
"Collegiate Tudor" style with Arts and Crafts influences; Hare also carried it "generally of late Renaissance character". Designed around two courtyards, the larger of which was never completed (later enclosed with ranges by Sir Percy Thomas 1966-1970). The entire scheme is linked and focused upon the cathedral like central tower. Buff coloured Cefn stone in snecked courses with freestone dressings and flat buttresses; slate roofs with parapet and stone chimney stacks. Mullioned and transomed windows with leaded lights. Tudor style down-pipes etc dated 1909. Metalwork by William Bainbridge Reynolds of London. The building was described in his obituary as Hare’s finest work.
Exterior
Starting at the NW Hall range facing College Road. 2-storey, 6-window front with advanced end pavilions; altered to right by addition of modern entrance block closing the NW side of the SW courtyard. Steep roof, crenellated parapet and bellcote with lantern and spirelet. Tall segmental headed hall windows, double-transomed and with panel tracery; projecting flat roof ground floor with entrances to either end, deeply recessed doors. Left hand end pavilion had central stepped buttress flanked to 2nd floor by 2 segmental headed windows with unusual tear-drop oculi; right hand pavilion is lower with dentil cornice over 3-light window.
The original main entrances if on the SW gable end of this range. Broad gable with Tudor octagonal end turrets and Baroque niches containing statue of Lewis Morris to apex. Central segmental headed 4-light double-transomed and panel traceried window with flanking buttresses. Advanced below is a triple arched porch with panelled pilasters, coasts of arms and Latin inscription dated 1911. Enriched spandrels over recessed entrances with double doors and lugged architraves to each. Shaped gables at right angles to either side, to the advanced end bays of the adjoining ranges; commemorative tablets with garlanded borders below each gable. At the top of the steps up to the entrance are cast-iron square, tapered lamp standards with bracketed octagonal lamps and openwork ornament.
The spinal/administrative range, together with the Library, forms an :-plan group to the E side of the SW courtyard. The former has an 8-bay, 2-storey front, the advanced left hand bay as above, parapet is balustraded over cross frame windows with architraves to 1st floor and semicircular pediments to ground floor. Baroque entrance to centre with small-pane circular window over door.
The 2-stage tower to right has crenellated parapet and taller stair turret to SE side; splayed corners. 2 segmental-headed double-transomed windows flanking ogee niche to each face; niches contain statues of Welsh historical characters over coats of arms.
The Library at right angles has a 9-window front with central royal coat of arms; 2 bays are advanced with tall 1st floor oriel windows. Crenellated parapet and gabled and panelled buttress pilasters. Arched headed lights, square headed 1st floor windows and segmental headed ground floor windows and entrance which has open pedimented doorcase, lugged architrave and double doors. Plaque with Latin inscription.
Gable end to Penrallt Road has full height buttresses, extruded corners and small attic windows. Central 2-storey splayed bay with horseshoe shaped high arch above containing recessed 3-light window – no leaded glass to this elevation.
The 3-storey SE side of the Library overlooking the city had 1 9 bay front, (stylistically foreshadowing Sir Edwin Lutyens at Castle Drogo). Attic to the advanced and gabled end bay with Baroque scrolls over stepped buttresses; 2nd floor has statute flanked by cross frame windows under overall label. Symmetrical to right with a repeat of the courtyard elevation as above with the addition of a slightly swept out ground floor with single light windows and entrances below the oriels; 1st floor windows set in splayed recesses. Forward to right beyond the tower is the SE range of the NE courtyard. Stained glass windows at SE end by Dudley Forsyth of London 1910, the classical subject and signed "Architectus Dedit" with the monogram of a hare. Short arms of the passages lead off to the Library, that to the 1st floor contained a porcelain museum. The finest single room is the Council Chamber on 1st floor – segmental vaulted ceiling with panelled Jacobean plasterwork and coats of arms of the Welsh Princes full height wainscoting, segmental pedimented doorcases and ashlar fireplaces and overmantels with panelled and fireplaces. Also contains 2 busts by W Goscombe John, one of William Cadwallader Davies and another of Sir Isambard Owen.
NE range has smaller hall with coved ceiling ridges. SE range has metal staircase with barley twist uprights to courtyard side. Library range contains the ground floor Lloyd Reading Room which Hare had intended to be a museum and the 1st floor Shankland Library with segmental vaulted roof with square panel-lining and 36 heraldic shielded in oak frames. Our insurance is trying to screw us. What can I do?

If my son is on my parents insurance does that mean they claim him on his taxes?
Okay my son is now 1 year old. He is on my parents insurance, we live with them, and my parents pretty much support him.(pay for all expenses).. Now my sons father wants to put him on his taxes. I know he just wants to get money to get him a new car. he also says he will get me a car too. but idk about that. When i told him i think my parents already claimed him, he started yelling its his son, and told me to give him his security card(he has a really bad temper and gets angry to where i get scared) so i did.. but now i need to sign a paper..and i dont want too.. Here is my thing i told him that he is automatically on my parents taxes, because he is on there insurance, so that would mean i would have to take aiden off of their insurance(Which means he wouldnt be on any insurance)he started yelling how stupid i am and just to sign paper, my question is is it true that because my parents have him on their insurance, he is on their taxes. What should i do? Thanks for anyhelp. Sorry long question. Please no rude answers""

Other driver was not covered under insurance?
I was in a car accident where the other driver (to be referred as The Idiot) was at fault. The police were called and The Idiot was given a warning citation. Is this too high for heath insurance or is this how they all are?
I pay 130/month for health insurance through Humana for 1 adult and 2 children, full coverage. I usually have to pay a $20 copay for minor doctor visits. Recently I found out Humana is going to start charging an extra $20/week so it will be $150/week, so about $500-600/month, which is a little more than our mortgage payment. We pay less in groceries every week than the amount it costs us to pay for this insurance and we rarely visit the doctor, maybe twice a year, and the amount that is charged hardly adds up to the amount paid throughout the whole year. It's really ridiculous, in my opinion. I get this insurance through my work. I only have the option to cancel or change things about the insurance twice a year and the time has come up. So I am considering canceling and looking elsewhere for health insurance, or just paying out of pocket because if I cancel that's an extra 150 bucks in the bank. I will still keep my vision and dental. Is this a good idea to cancel? Pros. vs. Cons.? Are there any better health insurance companies I could go with that would charge less in the state of Ohio? Honestly I am considering applying for medicaid because we are struggling. We are behind in several medical bills that the insurance wouldn't cover and they are less than what the insurance company charges us monthly, yet because all our money is spent on the insurance, we can't pay for the actual bills - what's the point in the insurance? Enlighten me someone? I was told once that the two biggest crooks are lawyers and insurance companies and I'm starting to see why.""

Can't afford Health Insurance...?
I'm looking for advice...and hopefully someone to tell me that I'm not screwed. My boss graciously offered to find group insurance for all of her employees and she is willing to pay 50% of the premiums. The problem is that she went with the most expensive plan on the market (that I've seen) and I simply can't afford it. The premium is $340 a month, so I'd be paying $170 which isn't bad...but the copays are at least +20% on everything and doctor visits range from $35 to $55 a visit, so I wouldn't be able to afford to use my health coverage often. It also doesn't include dental, which is what I really wanted/needed. I am 21 years old (and all of my coworkers are in their 20s), so I don't really understand why the payments are so high. I'm right in the midst of paying off student loans, I don't get paid very much, and I was hoping to start saving money to purchase a car and be able to go back to school. I was going to use my income tax return as a down payment on a car, but if I opt out of healthcare this year at least a fourth of that return will be taken as the fine imposed to coerce people to sign up for the Affordable Care Act. I seriously don't know what to do. Neither of my parents have health insurance, so I can't be tacked onto their coverage. I was planning on telling my boss to opt me out, but she went ahead and signed me up so I'm looking at getting $170 taken out of my check right before Christmas either way. I actually found out how much it was after she signed me up...I don't even know how she did that without confirming everything with me. Am I completely screwed? What would you do?""
Car insurance question???

Anyone have a rough idea how much my insurance would go up if I claimed for my old car?? Basically... should i just accept my losses on the old car or claim. cheers
""Conservatives, what is your overall opinion on insurance companies?""
Particularly: a.) Insurance companies that practice rescission in which a person who has paid into the insurance fund is subsquently denied what he has paid for because the insurance company comes up with an arbitrary reason for denying the needed coverage. b.) Rationing. How do you feel about insurance companies who decide if a procedure is in their best interest and deny to someone a life-saving procedure because it isn't profitable to them in the long run? c.) Denials. Someone who works and wants health insurance and does not qualify for state aid because he actually works for a living and pulls his own weight, but can't find a job with benefits (increasingly common, and why are employers expected to foot the bill for insurance as they don't pay for your car insurance or renter's insurance and this limits job mobility and the ability to start small businesses), and is either outright denied or charged more than his monthly salary? d.) Do you think that if rent, clothing and food cost as much as monthly premiums for people with pre-existing conditions, that we would be in serious trouble? e.) How do you feel about people who had the misfortune to be born with a genetic pre-disposition to an illness, i.e., breast cancer, ovarian cancer, Crohn's Disease, Lou Gehrig's Disease, MS, Alzheimer's, haemophilia, etc. f.) Do you think that an emergency room qualifies as part of preventive, ongoing treatment or that it's not cost effective for sick people to wait until they are at the worst stage to get necessary treatment? g.) Can you explain how several nations, in fact the overwhelming majority, that have universal health care have still remained free, capitalist, prosperous nations, i.e., Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Norway, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Japan, Israel, Singapore, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, Finland.....they didn't go communist, and the people do not live in gulag states.""

Rear Ended - Can I demand insurance?
I was in an accident last month in my brand new Volvo (not even a month old!). I was rear-ended, while I was at a stop sign. Damage is to the rear bumper, pretty bad, looks horrible...especially for a new car! No one was hurt, just shaken! We did not immediately file a police report. We exchanged information, and the the person who hit me told me that they would pay for my repairs out of pocket, and that they didn't want to get the police or insurance involved. We conversed on the phone for a few days, and they seemed like everything was going great, and I was supposed to meet them at their friends auto body shop for the repairs...long story short...they never showed. Bad part now is, I never got their insurance information, just license plate, DL, addresses(basically everything BUT insurance). That same day, I went to the police station and filed a delayed police report. Later that week, I went and got 3 different estimates, and the damage averages out to about $900. I contacted a friend of mine, who is a police officer, and they stated that I can issue a summons to the person who hit me for careless driving, and I will have to go to court. This is basically to show them that I'm not messing around. All I want is my BRAND NEW car fixed!!! I'm NOT going through my insurance because my deductible is $1,000, and the damage is less...not only that...it wasn't my fault! My insurance company advised me to have person who hit me's insurance take care of everything, at no cost to me. Here's what I need to find out...Can I send the person a demand letter, basically stating that I want them to have their insurance take care of everything? I have tried to call them, and they send me to voice mail, so reasoning is not an option any more. I don't really know how to go about this?! I want to try this on my own, and not get an attorney involved. I just want to tell them that if they fix my car, I will drop summons and further proceedings (like small-claims court, which I WILL sue for additional $$ for dealing with all this). But, what if they don't have the money? I have no idea what to do. I live in NJ, hope someone can help!""

UK Car insurance in-between switching cars?
To keep things simple I am calling the current car I have Car A and the new car as Car B. I have insurance that runs out on CAR A in 2 months time which I want to keep on the basis that I don't want to lose my no claims bonus for this current year by cancelling the insurance. I was planning to switch cars in 2 months anyway but have found CAR B at a very competitive price with all the extras I need. (Car B comes taxed and MOTd). I currently cant change my policy from car A to car B as the provider says the update will increase my premium to over 2000 just for the remaining 2 months! I am a young driver so I am not able to get temporary car insurance either. My question is what are my options other than simply buying car B now and letting it sit on the driveway for 2 months waiting for my current policy to expire? E.g.is it possible to take out insurance on car B without NCB now and add ncb 2 months after the policy has started? Any other loop holes you clever poeple can think of?
What to do about insurance?
Is there any way to find insurance that covers a pregnancy? (after you have been pregnant) Even if it is a pre-existing condition, is there an extra amount of money we can pay? I have been using my college's insurance plan for the past 2 years. It is now summer and I no longer have insurance. Unfortunatey my due date is before the fall semester starts so I can't renew it until after the baby is delivered. We thought I would be able to just get onto my husbands plan but they wont cover the insurance AT ALL because he signed some waver years ago (before we were married) saying if he were to get married the insurance doesn't have to cover his wife. (It didn't bother him at the time since he didn't know he would be getting married... he has had the same insurance for nearly 5 years now and he forgot all about it) What should we do? I don't mind finding an insurnace that makes me pay a high premium so they would cover my pregnancy. I just don't know how insurance works!""

Term Life Insurance Ownership?
My wife and I are in our 40's and 50's. We have created A/B trusts and transferred our assets to them, and expect to have estates that will benefit from the estate tax saving these trusts afford. We recently both purchased $1M 10-year renewable term life insurance policies that we expect to keep for 10 years. We chose not to use life insurance trusts because the purpose of the policies is to replace the lost income of the deceased spouse if one of us dies relatively soon, not to increase our final estate, and the trusts are somewhat costly. We each specified our own trusts as the beneficiaries, because we want the disposition of assets specified there to be used for this money. The trusts provide for the income, and principle if needed, to be paid to the spouse, and for the remainder to be paid to our child at the remaining spouses death. The question of ownership of the policies is less clear. My lawyer says that it doesn't make much difference who owns them, because the value (estate) taxed is only one year's premium, not the $1M. My accountant says that the $1M is taxed, and that each policy should be owned by the other spouse to avoid tax on that amount. A friend said that there's no way to avoid or significantly decrease the tax, so just leave the ownership as is (each spouse owns their own policy). A further fly in the ointment is that the insurance company (Massachusetts SBLI) makes some forms of trust ownership more difficult and costly. I'm confused. What ownership is the best? What is the benefit of that choice? Thanks for your time.""
How do insurance companies expect 17 year olds to not front?
Im not being funny, but its quite clear that seventeen boys cannot afford to pay 300-500 per month for a car worth 400, there is no possible way to afford that when you are trying to do a-level and your part time job pays you maybe 80-120 per week, its just unreasonable, whats the point in having a license if they expect you to pay that, so i can see why most teens do front""

'occasional driver' Car insurance?
Hi, I'm 18 and I'll be heading off to college in the fall and so won't be home very often. However when I am home I'd like to be insured on my dads car. I don't see the point in having to pay the same price for car insurance as someone who drives almost daily, so I wanted to know if there was a type of car insurance for the 'occasional' driver. I'll only be home on vacations, and even then I won't be driving all the time, but I really need a car insurance for when I do drive, mostly summers.""
How much will my car insurance go up?
I accidently hit a parked car. No damage to my car. Damages to the other car add up to about $900. I have liability insurance with USAA and wont be paying a deductible. My driving record has been clean for 12 years. Should I just pay out of pocket or file the claim with insurance?? The person who owned the damaged car is a neighbor and said they won't file a claim if I pay them directly. I'm concerned.... if my insurance premiums go up 40% over 5 years then I'd just pay myself. I don't know.. I really can't decide.
Lower insurance premium because of replaced roof?
I filed a claim last year for roof damage. After a typical fight with the insurance company, they replaced the my roof. As a result, my rates increased (Same concept as purchasing toilet paper and then getting punished when you use it - same concept!) Anyhow, my question is: Since I have a new roof, could that make me more eligible for a lower annual premium at another ins company even though the new roof was a result of a claim? Thanks for your assistance in advance.""

Why won't insurance pay for my MRI?
I'm 16 and I've been having problems with my TMJ. So a month or two ago I went to the hospital for an MRI on both sides of my jaw. Yesterday my mother told me that they are charging $11,000 for my MRI and insurance isn't going to pay for it. She also told me my maxillofacial specialist told her at the most it should have been $3000 total or $1200 for each side. Why does insurance pay for the surgery to correct TMJ disorders but not the MRI to diagnose it? Even when surgery is a last resort effort to correct the problem and isn't recommended most of the time. And it sucks even more for me once I am 18 because I'm basically screwed.""
Why do so few people understand the Affordable Care Act?
Fact: You will be required beginning January 1st to pay upwards of $200 per month or more per individual if you do not presently have health insurance. The average estimated cost to you as an individual has been estimated to be $328 per month. This applies to all citizens of the United States. If you do not pay for health insurance, you will be fined $95 for the first year and subsequent years this fine will go up by hundreds of dollars per year. For those of you who think this is some kind of left-wing fact - Read A Newspaper. To me, $200 to $300 or more is a car payment or to put it another way - 2 weeks of groceries. How will you be able to afford this?""

Roofing contractor fined after worker fell from height
A Dudley based contractor has been fined after a 30-year old labourer fell more than six metres through a fragile roof.
Wolverhampton Crown Court heard how Mr Stephen Spreadbury hired the services of the worker to help him complete roof work at a site in Wolverhampton. On 7 January 2017 the man was walking along a solid section of the roof when his path became blocked off by Mr Spreadbury who was continuing to work. As the worker tried to move round he stepped on what he believed to be a solid piece of roofing, which in fact was a glass skylight that he then fell through and landed on the concrete floor below.
The man suffered numerous fractures to his spine, pelvis and shoulder because of this fall from height. He spent several weeks in hospital and will never return to work as a roofer.
An investigation by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) found Stephen Spreadbury failed to address the risk of working at height and on fragile surfaces before undertaking this roofing work, he also failed to ensure that fellow workers had the adequate support to complete this work and this resulted in the work being carried out in an unsafe manner.
Stephen Spreadbury of Smestow, Swindon, Dudley pleaded guilty to breaching Regulation 4 (1) of the Work at Height Regulations 2015 and has been sentenced to 180 hours community service and given a six-month prison sentence suspended for twelve months.

Speaking after the hearing HSE inspector Joanne Pearson said: “This fall from height could have easily proven to be fatal, the worker in this case is very lucky his injuries did not prove to be more life threatening.”
“All duty holders must ensure they take the appropriate and required safety measures before conducting any work at height, no matter how small or large scale the work is it must be planned and risk assessed properly.”
