Could you do a criminal minds x reader where reader is viewed as super sweet and dresses brighter and stuff like Penelope but one day they have to come in like super late/by surprise so everyone is in their normal clothes and the bau sees that reader has a big ass, super cool tattoo? And theyâre all surprised and stuff
You're looking less-than professional in your backless halter top when you take your seat at the round table, but no one bats an eye until you stand from the chair to leave. Hotch's call of 'Wheels up in 20' means that the room clears as everyone hunts for their gobags, and the second you turn your back to your coworkers a litany of reactions fill the space.
Of course, the most dramatic is from Garcia, but you hear enough to count all of your coworkers, except one. Hotch's brows are raised when you turn back to see them, though - apparently he's not above being startled.
"Woah, hot stuff," Prentiss calls, a grin spreading over her face, "You've got some nice ink back there!"
"I didn't know you had tattoos," JJ muses, staring at you with curious amusement like she's recalculating your image in her mind, "That's really intricate. I like it."
"Oh, it's-" You reach a hand up to stroke awkwardly over the inked skin, "I kind of forgot you'd never seen it before."
"Turn around again!" Garcia gushes, "I wanna look at it."
You spin on command, and Hotch and Rossi are kind enough not to gawp with the others, passing you on their way to the door.
"You've got guts, kid," Rossi grimaces, "I've been in a lot of pain before, but I don't know if I'd willingly sit there for all of that."
"I wouldn't," Hotch shakes his head with a good-natured smile, "Haley and I got small, matching ones in college, and I had a hard time with that one."
"Is that based off of Norse mythology?" Spencer pokes his head around your shoulder to stare bright-eyed at you, "Some of the symbols remind me of-"
"It's just a sick-ass tattoo, Reid." Morgan shoves at his shoulder. peering avidly at the art, "Don't ruin this for everyone."
Reid takes the shove like a champion, smiling kindly, albeit awkwardly at you as he moves for the door himself, "I like it."
"Thanks, Reid," You call, flinching slightly as a hand traces one of the symbols on your back.
"Ooh! Sorry, pumpkin," Garcia calls, the hand drawn away in a flash, "I got too grabby. I just think it's really cool," she takes your hand, leading you towards the door while the others follow to continue staring at your tattoo, "I'd show you my own body art, but it's not really in a spot that I can display in the workplace."
"Well this I've gotta see," Morgan teases, "Let's all huddle in the bathroom on the jet, babygirl, and see what you're hiding."
"It is not for your eyes, Derek Morgan," She huffs, though she's grinning at his attempt. The look in her eyes suggests that the tattoo is not for his eyes because it's something to do with him, and you're eager to giggle over whatever part of her body she's tatted 'babygirl' over later.
For now, though, you rifle through your gobag and shrug on a cardigan, effectively covering your back and its ink.
"It is a crying shame to cover up that artwork," Prentiss laments, "I bet it looks awesome peeking over tank tops."
"You'll see it again at the hotel," You laugh, "I have plans to use the jacuzzi before we leave."
"A jacuzzi sounds fantastic," JJ sighs, "But let's all of us agree that Morgan isn't invited - I wanna see Garcia's tattoo."

a/n: bruh this was a looooong one! dw some banging smut coming in the next one with post-prison reid >:3
now playing... Fare Well by Hozier
This was really starting to piss you off.
You fell to your knees as bile pushed up your throat, your skin paling as you vomited for the third time today. You tried to keep something, anything, down but you would just wind up curled in on yourself and sweating in the corner of the bathroom stall. You ate a couple of crackers and sipped on water to keep your empty stomach satiatedâ But you always ended up right back here on the bathroom floor with your head between your knees trying to will the pain away.
Emily noticed your pale complexion and how exhausted you looked, offering to get you some medicine or ask Hotch about sitting out of the next few cases. You told her you were fine, that it was just stress. That answer seemed to satisfy her enough, though she wasnât fully convinced. To be fair, your workload had increased tenfold since JJ was forced to accept the job at the Pentagon, and you missed her terribly but you were proud of her. But you really could have used her advice right about now.
Because you swore this baby had it out for you.
You found out you were pregnant just over a week ago and you still hadnât told Spencer. You were still wrapping your head around the whole thing because initially, you didnât think you were pregnant, you just thought your body was dealing with the stress and workload in, frankly, a bizarre way. Hotch had wanted you to take over doing JJâs job as communication liaison, which were rather important shoes to fill. He had total faith in your ability to do JJâs job as well as do your own as a profiler, but you werenât so sure anymore.Â
You would tell Spencer when you were ready and right now was not a good time. Everyone was surviving on four hours of sleep a night, far too many cups of coffee and sheer willpower. The absolute last thing they needed was to lose another team member. So you soldiered on like a championâ a champion who still held her head over the bureauâs less than impressive toilet while she threw her guts up.
âY/N?â You didnât even hear the bathroom door open, the ringing rattling around your skull distracting you from your surroundings. Penelopeâs heels clicked against the tiles as she cautiously peered around the wall of the last stall where you kneeled on the ground. âOh my god, sweet thing! Whatâs wrong?â
âIâm fine, Pen,â your voice was hoarse when you finally replied. You wiped your mouth with the back of your hand and tried to smooth your hair down, attempting to look at least semi-presentable before you left the bathroom to pretend everything was okay.
âNo, no, my girl, you are not fine!â Penelope stood in behind you, pulling your hair out of your face as you vomited the last remnant of your soul into the toilet. âYou need to talk to Hotch, youâve got a bug or something, my dear. You shouldnât even be at work when youâre this sick, let me talk to him for you and you just go homeââ
âIâm not sick, Penelope!â You didnât mean to shout at her, you really didnât, you just felt awful and felt like a shell of yourself with how poorly youâd been sleeping and eating paired with all the stress of doing JJâs job as well as your own. It was just a lot.
Penelope went quiet but stayed close to you, still holding your hair as you sat back on your heels, running your hands down your face. She let out a soft sigh, knowing you didnât mean to shout at her. Penelope was stressed tooâ everyone was.
âIâm sorry, Pen,â you mumbled, your throat hurting from all the vomiting and coughing youâd managed to do todayâ it had to be a record honestly.Â
Penelope just shook her head at you, reaching her hand out toward you, âyou donât have to apologise, sweet girl, I know youâve got a lot on your plate.â You shook your head, you still felt bad and shouting at sweet Penelope was not the way to deal with all the emotions swirling around in your head.
âItâs not fair,â you replied as she helped you to your feet, gently guiding you over to the basin to help you clean yourself up. âYouâre stressed too, I didnât mean to yell.â
Penelope brushed some of your hair out of your face, her gaze narrowing as she watched you, waiting for you to tell her what was going on. It never came and she knew she would have to push you a little. Penelope thought it was necessary though because seeing you like this was awful and she couldnât even imagine how Spencer would react if he knew how sick you were.
âWhatâs going on?â Penelopeâs voice was soft; gentle, just trying to get you to talk so she could help. You were stubborn when it came to asking for help and by the time you did, you had hurt yourself more than necessary trying to solve it yourself. Not this time thoughâ Penelope refused.
âIâm okayââ you looked at Penelope and she raised her brows at you, not accepting that answer in the slightest. You sighed, knowing this is a fight you wouldnât win. âIâm pregnant.â
Penelopeâs jaw nearly hit the floor. She knew something was up with you but pregnant? That was not on this year's bingo card. âWhat?? Y/N thatâsââ she gauged your expression and she really couldnât tell if you were upset or happy about being pregnant. She cut herself off before she finished her sentence, pulling her lips into a line. âAre we happy about this news or are weâŚ?â
âWeâreâŚâ you were happy. Honestly, you were. You and Spencer had talked about having kids one day, ideally after you were married but that didnât seem to be going to plan. Youâd been with Spencer for three years, in the BAU for four, itâs not like your relationship was new or in the honeymoon phase, it just wasnât the original plan and that scared the hell out of you. But you were happy to be carrying his childâ the timing was just piss poor. âWeâre happy⌠just scared.â
âOh, baby,â Penelope cooed. âOf course youâre scared, itâs a huge adjustment. But I know you and I know Spencer, you guys will nail this parenting business.â Penelope managed to prove time and time again why she was your best friend. You often wondered if she knew you better than you knew yourself, which wouldnât really surprise you given her job.
âI hope so.â You smiled softly, feeling somewhat human again after splashing water on your face and washing your hands. You knew Spencer would be a good dad, he was so good with kids and he was so gentle and patient with you. He was meant to be a dad. You just werenât sure if you were meant to be a mother. You wanted to be a family with Spencer, it made you feel warm just thinking about it, but you were a person who worried about almost everything, even the things out of your control. What scared you was how in control you were.Â
âIâm surprised Spencer hasnât told everyone, that boy is obsessed with you and youâre making him a dad? God, it must be killing him sitting on thisââ Penelope suddenly looked at you wide-eyed, connecting the dots all on her own. You winced as you watched her figure it out, gritting your teeth as she let out a soft gasp. âYou havenât told him?!â
You covered your face with your hands, letting out a muffled squeal of frustration into your palms. You would tell him eventually, just not right now, he was far too busy and was already stressing about his own workload, you couldnât imagine how much more stressed he would be if he found out you were still in the field while pregnant.
âPen, please,â you turned to her, âplease keep this to yourself. Iâ We canât deal with this right now. JJâs gone and everyone is worked to the bone, I canât do this to everyone right now, especially Spencer.â Penelope looked at you sympathetically, you knew you were asking a lot of her to keep it to herself, especially when Penelope wasnât great at keeping secrets.
âY/N, sweetie, youâre going to have to tell them eventuallyâ Youâre an FBI Agent. Being in the field is so dangerous and you donât just have yourself to think about anymore.â You knew Penelope was right. You carried a gun around for Christâs sake, you literally hunted down serial killers, active shooters, total psychopaths and everything in between. The field was no place for a pregnant woman.Â
âI know, I know,â you sighed, resting both of your hands on the basin in front of you.
â...How far along are you?â
âTwelve weeks,â you said softly, resting your hand against your belly. You didnât have much of a bump yet but you were sure it would sneak up on you before you even realised. Lucky for you, you wore a lot of baggy sweaters around the office so you had some wriggle room when it came to hiding it.
â...My moneyâs on a girl,â Penelope was trying to make you feel better. She really was helping because the idea of Spencer hosting tea parties, getting covered in kitten stickers and his hair being covered in tiny butterfly clips made your heart swell.
You let out a soft laugh, âI think so too.â
âAlright, my love, I think we should leave this bathroom before they send out a search party,â Penelope laughed, linking her arm with yours to guide you out of the bathroom.Â
You honestly did feel better after talking to Penelope and throwing the rest of your guts up. She made sure to remind you about ten times to call her if you needed anything, you promised you would because it did make you feel better knowing that someone knew about your pregnancy and you didnât have to bear the weight of the news alone.
You sat down at your desk with a sigh, sipping on your water bottle to soothe your raw throat. You popped a piece of gum in your mouth, willing the taste of bile away. You let out a huff of air as you stared down at all the paperwork you had to do. Doing JJâs job proved to be intense, especially when you were doing your own work on top of herâs. You picked up your pen when you felt Spencer press a kiss to the crown of your head as he placed a mug of hot coffee on your desk in front of you.
You smiled, craning your neck to look up at him. Spencer took the opportunity to kiss you softly, one of his hands resting on the side of your desk while the other rested on the back of your chair. You smiled against his lips, âshouldnât you be working?â You teased.
âAre you trying to get me to go away?â Spencer looked at you curiously. You rolled your eyes playfully because of course you didnât want him to go away. If anything, you wanted him to pick you up and take you home right this second.
âYes, Spencer,â you replied sarcastically, âIâm trying to get you to go away.â Spencer wasnât great with sarcasm but he had come to understand your humour over the years. He just grinned and pressed another kiss to your lips.
âSarcasm is rooted in truth, angel,â Spencer retorted with a gentle smile.Â
âI am joking, but we both have a lot of work to do, Spence. I donât know how Iâm going to manage doing JJâs job as well as my own,â you sighed, leaning back in your chair.
âThereâs a reason Hotch wanted you to do it. I donât think he could have picked anyone more capable,â Spencer replied. Maybe it was the hormones and the fact you were carrying a baby, but the comment made you want to cry. Spencer frowned as he watched your face fall, âwhatâs wrong, angel?â
âNo, nothing,â You replied, sniffling quietly. You gave him a genuine smile, âIâm fine, Spence. I promiseââ
âNew case just came in,â Morgan called to the two of you, gesturing toward the meeting room at the back of the office with a manila folder in his hand.Â
You looked at Morgan with a confused expression because now it was your job to decide what cases the team took after JJâs departure. Morgan told you the case went straight to Hotch this time; an old friend had called in a favour.Â
Spencer pulled a chair out for you, taking the seat right beside you in the meeting room. You opened the case file the moment Penelope dropped it in front of you.
âThe victims are 20-year-old Evan Miller and 21-year-old Daniel Clark, both engineering students at Caltech. They were shot three days apart outside their family homes in the local area of Pasadena, California.â You followed along with Penelope as she gave a run down of the victims and the circumstances of their deaths.
The killings were straightforward, the UnSub didnât try to dispose of the bodies and the men were simply shot in the head execution style. It didnât seem like the doings of a serial killer who would usually seek some kind of sexual release from torturing and killing their victims. If anything, it seemed like revenge killings.
âThey were just shot?â Emily questioned, eyebrows furrowed as she stared at the crime scene photos.Â
âOnce in the head,â Hotch replied, âthere were no witnesses around which suggests the UnSub knew the routine of the victims and the neighbourhood.â
âCould be a stalker?â Penelope suggested.
âStalker victims are usually the object of a stalkerâs affection, they rarely act in violence let alone such a blunt killing,â You replied, confused by the nature of such a straightforward murder.
Spencer flicked through the victimâs files, âthe single shot to the head suggests the UnSub just wanted them dead. No physical evidence of sexual release or torture⌠This could be some kind of revenge killing.â
âDid these victims know each other?â You asked.
âAccording to their parents, they came from the same friend group,â Penelope replied.Â
âWheels up in thirty. Garcia, you're coming with us. Get your go bag,â Hotch said, quickly standing up from his chair. Penelope made a small noise of surprise before quickly ushering out of the meeting room. Hotch didnât usually have Penelope come along but given you were short a very valuable member of your team, Penelope had started coming along more often. Not that you would ever complain having Penelope around.Â
You pinned up the last of the crime scene photos on the board, standing back with your hands on your hips. Spencer was writing on the whiteboard next to you, jotting down all the things you knew about the victims and possible motives of the UnSub. Hotch and Morgan were engaging in formalities with the local detectives on the case while Penelope got herself settled in the makeshift office they had set up for the team.Â
âThe parents of the victims are here,â Emily poked her head into the office. âY/N, Hotch wants you to talk to Ben and Sarah Miller, Iâve got the Clarks.â
âAlright, I got it,â you replied, letting out a dejected sigh.Â
âYou okay?â Spencer gently tucked some of your hair behind your ear, turning his full attention to you. You let out another sigh, nodding your head tiredly. âYou can do this,â he said quietly, his eyes shifting between yours.
âYeah, I know,â you smiled softly. Spencer planted a soft kiss on your cheek before leaving the office, leaving Spencer and Penelope alone.Â
â...I think she needs a break,â Penelope said after a beat.Â
Spencer looked at her, eyebrows furrowed, âwhat makes you say that?â
Penelope tried to be as inconspicuous as possible, âsheâs doing JJâs job and her own. I mean, I think sheâs the right girl for the job but⌠you know what sheâs like.â
Spencer sighed, he knew exactly what you were like. You always held yourself and your work to such a high standard and you often overworked yourself to make everyone happy. âYeah, I know. Iâll talk to her when we get back to the hotel.â
âI think thatâs a great idea, lover boy,â Penelope grinned.
You opened the office door, files in hand. Mr and Mrs Miller immediately stood up as you entered and you gave them a sympathetic smile. Mrs Miller had clearly been crying, still clutching a tissue in her hand while her husband paced around the office.
âPlease, have a seat, Mr Miller,â you said gently.
âIâll stand,â he replied firmly. You decided not to argue and sat down on the chair opposite the couch where Mrs Miller sat.
âMrs Miller, Iâm Agent L/N, Iâm with the Behavioural Analysis Unit in the FBIââ
âFBI?â She questioned. âWas Evan in trouble?â
âWe suspect he and his friend Daniel were killed by the same person,â you explained. Mrs Miller let out a soft gasp, her hand coming to rest over her mouth.Â
âIs it alright if I ask you a few questions about Evan?â You asked. Sarah didnât say anything but she nodded her head, fresh tears forming in her eyes. âDaniel and Evan knew each other, right?â
âThey went to high school together,â Sarah replied, her voice shaking. âThey were so excited when they both got into Caltech,â she smiled sadly, fresh tears streaming down her face.
âDo you have any idea who killed our son?â Ben asked, his voice sounding angry.
âThatâs what weâre here for,â you said, âweâre here to find who killed your son and whyââ
ââWhyâ?â Ben repeated, âhe was just a kid.â
You sighed softly, âI understand that, sir. Weâre just trying to figure out a possible connection.â
âEvan and Daniel were good kids. They would never hurt a fly,â Sarah frowned, sniffling softly as she began crying again.Â
âDid Daniel and Evan hang around the same social groups?â You asked, turning your attention to Mr Miller, who was still pacing around the office with his arms crossed. âMaybe in some kind of extracurricular activities?â
âThey were both on the college basketball team,â Ben said after a beat. âWhy? You think this asshole is going to kill more of these kids?â
âI am just trying to get an idea of the social groups Evan and Daniel were a part of,â you didnât want to get into the gory details of why you were asking such questions and decided they were both far too emotional for you to keep asking them questions; you would let Hotch handle it. âI need to speak with my team but Iâll be right outside if you need anything.â You rested a hand on Mrs Millerâs shoulder and you couldnât shake how much you missed JJ doing this part.
You let out a sigh as you left the office, rubbing the tension in the back of your neck. You slowly walked over to Hotch, âEvan was on the Caltech Basketball team, he and Daniel went to high school together and Evanâs parents were adamant he was a good kid. I think he was a good kid, just got involved with the wrong people.â
Hotch let out a breath, âI want you and Prentiss to go to the school, talk to the faculty, basketball team coach, anything you can get.â
You nodded, gesturing to Emily on the other side of the bullpen. She firmly nodded at you and the two of you left for the school.
The team worked the case for two days before another body showed up. Everyone was starting early and finishing late to find the person who was doing this and you worked closely with the detectives and other officers on the case. Hotch gave the profile as soon as the team was certain but given the demographic of the suburban areas he was targeting these boys, it was rather unremarkable. The third body belonged to 21-year-old Oliver Marsh, another Caltech student studying Physics. He was shot once in the head while walking his dog no further than a block from his house.Â
You stood in the middle of Oliverâs bedroom staring at the posters and certificates that littered his walls. Spencer rifled through papers on his desk, mostly finding papers related to physics journals and essays for school. Emily and David were downstairs talking to the parents while Hotch and Morgan went to see the crime scene.
You walked over to his bedside table pulling it open. There were a lot of birthday cards and a game boy but what caught your attention was the little clear yellow bottles with white caps. You lifted the first bottle out, reading the labelâ
âOliver was taking Oxycodone,â you said softly, catching Spencerâs attention. â...And Escitalopram,â you spun on your heel, showing Spencer the two bottles. Spencer took the bottles from your hands, eyebrows furrowed as he carefully read the labels. âChronic pain?â you suggested.
âCould be,â Spencer replied. âHe could have been taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatories too, theyâre typically over the counter.â
You rifled through the drawer again, pulling out a blue box, âYeah, he was taking Ibuprofen too.â
âWe should talk to the parents,â Spencer said. You nodded and the two of you ushered down the stairs to where his parents sat in the living room with David and Emily. âWas Oliver suffering from chronic pain?â Spencer quickly questioned before he even fully made it into the living room.
Oliverâs mother held a tissue to her nose, glancing at Emily with a confused expression. You put your hand on Spencerâs bicep, âHas Oliver injured himself recently? Maybe a fall or injury while playing sports?â
Oliverâs father shook his head, âNo, not recently. Heâs been on those antidepressants for a few years and takes the codeine when he hasâ had flare-ups.â
âFlare-ups?â David asked pointedly.
âHe was in a car accident four years ago,â Mrs Marsh said, âHe was in the passenger seat and was in a coma for two weeks⌠he hadnât really been the same after that, got really sad and antisocial⌠he was in a lot of pain too.â
âHe had to stop playing Football and running track, his body just couldnât keep up,â Mr Marsh added, his eyes glazing over. âHe lost a lot of friends, I donât think I ever saw him hang out with anyone, Physics became everything to him.â
âDo you have evidence of his medical records anywhere?â Spencer asked. âJust so I can look them over.â
âUh, yeah, of course,â Mrs Marsh stood up, Spencer following her to their home office on the other side of the house.
You sat down across from Mr Marsh, âThe accident he was in,â you started, âwhat happened?â
He looked at you with a pain in his eyes, âHe was in the car with some of his friends and they were driving home from a party and it was late. I think they were allâŚâ he hesitated for a moment, âthey were all drunk.â
âWho was in the car?â Emily asked, not liking where this was going.
â...Evan Miller and Daniel Clark,â his father began to cry, holding his hand over his mouth. You felt your eyes widen, this was a revenge killing.
âWho was driving, Mr Marsh?â David asked quickly.
âUm, godââ He sniffled softly, âPeter⌠Peter something, he was older than them, I really donât remember.â
âThank you, Mr Marsh,â You stood up, quickly moving to the front door to call Penelope. You pulled out your phone, dialling her number. She picked up after the first ring.
âHow may I be of service, oh queen of my country?â she sang, her fingers typing furiously against her keyboard.Â
âI need you to look into an accident for me, four years ago,â you said with your hand on your hip. âOliver Marsh, Daniel Clark and Evan Miller were all in the accident too. See if you can find newspaper articles, news segments, anythingâ I think we know who the last target is.â
âRight, give me a moment,â Penelope replied. You heard her typing before she stopped, âOh noâŚâ she mumbled softly.
âWhatâs wrong, Pen?â You furrowed your brows.
âPeter Harvey,â Penelope sighed, âheâs the last boy⌠He was driving with three other high school boys; Oliver, Daniel and Evan when they struck an oncoming car and killed a pregnant woman on impact; her husband walked away without a scratch.â
âShit.â You cursed, âWhatâs his name?â
âJonathan Hughes, his wife was Katherine⌠she was 8 months pregnant, Y/N.â Penelope sounded so pained and you knew she was thinking of you and the small baby you were carrying. âY/NâŚâ
âI know, Pen⌠After this case wraps up⌠Iâll tell everyone,â you replied with a gentle sigh.
âAnd youâll take time off?â Penelope sounded like she was lecturing you.
You smiled to yourself, âYeah, Penelope. Iâll take some time off.â
âOkay⌠Iâll send Hotch and Morgan Jonathanâs last known address, Iâm sending you Peter Harveyâs addressââ
Your phone beeped as Penelope sent the address through. âWhere would I be without you, Pen?â
âNowhere good, my love,â you could hear the smile in her voice. You quickly hung up before walking back into the Marshâs house.Â
Emily and David turned to look at you, âWeâve got him.â
âAlright, you guys go, Iâll grab Reid and weâll be right behind you,â David waved you off and Emily quickly ushered the two of you to the car.Â
Emily was speeding toward the address Penelope had given you while you called Hotch and Morgan, filling them in on all the information Penelope had given you. They agreed to go to Jonathanâs address to hopefully intersect him before he left for Peter Harvey. You were always nervous when it came to these parts of the case because you couldnât control the outcome no matter how hard you tried. A grieving man was going around killing these young men and while it was awful what he was doing; you could sympathise with him and the pain he was feeling over losing his wife and unborn child.Â
You instinctively rested a hand over your belly, your thumb stroking the small curve. You couldnât even imagine how much pain Spencer would be in if he lost you, let alone your child too. You would tell him and you would ask Hotch about taking some time off later in your pregnancy and sitting out of cases like this.Â
âShit heâs already here,â Emily cursed when she noticed Jonathanâs SUV parked a couple of blocks from Peterâs address. âCall Hotch.â
You dialled Hotchâs number and he picked up almost instantly, âWhat is it, L/N?â
âHeâs already here, his SUV is parked a couple blocks down from Peterâs address. Heâs already out looking for him,â You quickly said.
âWeâre on our way, units are already on route,â he hung up after that.Â
Emily pulled the car up on the gutter, the car skidding to a stop. You immediately pushed the door open, holding your gun by your thigh as you ran across the lawn to Peter Harveyâs house. You knocked on the door and a woman answered after a beat.
âMrs Harvey?â You asked, panting softly.
âYes?â
âIs your son Peter here?â
âNo, he went to the store down the street an hour ago, he should be back soon⌠What is this about?â She asked, her hand gripping the door in concern.
âWe believe someone dangerous may be looking for your son,â Emily said. Mrs Harvey rested her hand over her mouth, a soft gasp leaving her lips.
âMom?â You spun around and Peter stood with a plastic bag of groceries in his hand in the middle of the lawn.
It all happened almost in slow motion. You saw a figure wearing dark clothes stalking across the lawn and without even thinking, you darted toward Peter as the UnSub pulled the gun out of his coat, aiming it straight at Peterâs head. You could hear Emily yelling at Mrs Harvey to go back inside before she pulled out her gun and aimed it at the UnSub; but it was too late.
You shoved Peter to the ground as he fired, feeling the shot burn through your shoulder as both you and Peter fell to the ground. You instinctively pressed a hand to your burning shoulder, warm blood oozing from the wound and through your fingers.Â
âJonathan Hughes?â You said, your breathing heavy as you tried to fight through the pain. He held his gun right in front of your face.
âMove,â he grunted, his eyes glassy.
âI know what happened to your wife,â you breathed trying to stall him as more police cars with blaring sirens pulled into the street.
âThey killed her,â tears streamed down his face and you honestly felt bad for him.Â
âIt was an accident,â you replied softly.
âThey were drunk,â he almost yelled, his hand shaking as his gun was still trained on you.
âI know,â you said, âIt was a stupid mistake that haunted them, Jonathan. I know it doesnât change what happened but these boysââ
âTheyâre monsters!â he shouted, hot tears streaming down his cheeks.
You saw David and Spencer get out of the car. Spencerâs heart was in his throat when he saw you kneeled on the ground, shielding Peter with your body while your hand and shirt were covered in your own blood. He didnât even pick up his gun as he began stalking toward you.
âY/N?â His voice was soft when he called you at first, then it turned to outright concern and anger, âY/N? No, no!â
David grabbed Spencerâs arm, pulling him back as Spencer fought against him, trying to get to you. It was irrational and it was dangerous. David quickly picked up his walkie, âAn agent has been shot, we need an ambulance.â
âWho was shot?!â Penelopeâs voice rang out in the car as she spoke to Morgan and Hotch.
âI repeat, agent L/N is shot, we need an ambulance,â David spoke before putting his walkie away to hold Spencer back, pulling him to the ground.
âMorgan! Oh my god!â Penelope felt tears form in her eyes.
âItâs okay, babygirl, sheâs going to be alright,â Morgan said, trying to reassure her as Hotch stepped on the accelerator.Â
âNo, Morgan, you donât understandââ
âWeâre going to get an ambulanceââ
âSheâs pregnant!â Penelope blurted out, not knowing what else to say for them to understand the gravity of why Penelope was so upset and concerned.Â
Hotch hesitated for a moment, âSheâs what?â
Penelope let out a shaky breath, âsheâs twelve weeks pregnant, Hotch. She wasnât going to tell anyone until after the caseâ and now sheâs been shot.â Penelope began to cry, holding her hand over her mouth as tears slipped from her eyes.
Hotch hadnât sped that fast since he found out Foyet was in his house. He cared about his team a lot and he had a soft spot for you even though he wouldnât admit it. The tires skidded along the road as Hotch pulled on the handbrake, both him and Morgan training their guns on the UnSub as they approached.
Morganâs heart hurt at the sight of you, your skin slightly paled as blood bloomed from your shoulder, drenching your arm and your hands. You looked so scared as the UnSub trained his gun on you, unmoving. Emily had her gun aimed at the UnSub, yelling for him to put it down.
âJonathan Hughes!â Morganâs voice caught your attention. âPut down the gun!â
âDonât move!â Jonathan shouted, âIâll shoot her!â
âNo you wonât, man,â Morgan shook his head.
âHow do you know that!? Sheâs in my way!â He shouted back.
âSheâs pregnant,â Morgan sighed. Your eyes widened as you looked at Morgan, who looked back at you with a sad expression.Â
Spencer stopped fighting against David, his breathing evening out as the words fell on his ears. You were pregnant. You were carrying his baby and you got shot and now you had a gun held up in front of your face. Spencer didnât even realise he was crying, his tears cold against his warm skin. All he could do was watch, there was nothing he could do.
Jonathan glanced at you as you held your hand over your belly. âW-What?â
Morgan reached a hand out as he got closer. âJust like your wife, Jonathan⌠You wouldnât kill a pregnant woman like those boys did.âÂ
Jonathan seemed to dissociate, staring at you with such a hurt expression as Morgan leapt forward, grabbing the gun from Jonathanâs hands and tossing it across the grass. He pushed Jonathan to the ground, pinning his hands behind his back. You let out a breath as you felt yourself grow tired. Emily caught you before you fell the rest of the way to the ground, holding you close to her body as she screamed for a medic.Â
âYouâre okay, youâre okay,â Emily gently rocked you, âyouâre going to be fine.â
âIâm sorry,â you muttered, tears running down your cheeks.
Your eyes were heavy as you attempted to pry them open.
You let out a shaky breath as you finally pulled your eyes open, the smell of disinfectant hit you first, followed by the sounds of beeping. You were in the hospital. You glanced down at your arm, an IV stuck in your arm while a pulse oximeter was clipped to your finger. Despite the fact the doctor had prescribed pain medication, you still felt like shit and your shoulder was killing you.
A soft noise caught your attention and you glanced at the chair next to your bed, Spencer sound asleep in a chair with a hospital blanket draped over him. You smiled softly as you saw the flowers, balloons and plushies littered around your room, most likely a courtesy of Penelope.
âSheâs awake,â Morgan smiled, standing in the doorway.Â
You grinned at him, âHi, Derek.â
Morgan slowly walked over to your bed. âFeeling okay, pretty girl?â Morgan gently grabbed your hand, giving it a soft squeeze.
âIâm okay,â you replied. You almost didnât want to ask but you knew you had to, â...is the baby okay?â
âYour baby is fine,â Morgan replied with a soft smile. You let out a breath of relief as you placed a hand over your tummy protectively. â...You scared the life out of everyone though.â
âI know,â you sighed.
âEspecially your lover boy,â Morgan said, âhe hasnât left your side.â
âSounds like my Spencer,â you laughed softly.Â
âY/N?â Spencerâs voice was laced with sleep as he opened his eyes. He quickly got up, ditching the blanket on the floor to tend to you.
âIâll leave you to it,â Morgan quickly said before leaving the room.
Spencerâs warm hands cupped your face as he pressed a kiss to your forehead, âI thought I lost you, Y/N.â He let out a breath, pulling away to stare at your face and stroke your cheeks with his thumbs. You reached a hand up to grip his forearm.
âIâm sorryââ
âYou donât need toââ
âIâm sorry I didnât tell you.â Tears formed in your eyes as you stared up at him, searching for any kind of anger or resentment. There wasnât any, he could never be mad at you.
âI wouldnât have let you come on the case,â he replied after a beat. âI wouldnât have let you leave the house.â
âThatâs why I didnât tell you⌠I knew you would be protectiveâ more protective,â you corrected with a soft smile.Â
âIâm aware,â Spencer pulled his lips into a tight smile. âYou know the odds of⌠complications are higher in the first trimester, angel. You should have told me,â he frowned.
âI know, Spence,â you sighed. âI just wanted to make sure I was in the clear before I told you⌠I understand being shot isnât necessarily helping with that butââ
âI understand,â he replied. âIâm just glad youâre okay.â
You stared at him for a moment, âare you happy?â
âHappy?â
âThat Iâm pregnant? I know weâre not married and our jobs are crazy butââ
Spencer cut you off by pressing a kiss to your lips, he pulled away slightly, âIâve never been more happy,â he whispered.
You beamed with happiness, a bright smile tugging on your lips. Spencer hesitantly pressed a hand to your belly, his thumb stroking your tiny bump.
âPenelope thinks itâs a girl,â you muttered.
â...What do you think?â He asked curiously.
âI think she might be right,â you giggled softly.
âYou know you canât actually tell yet,â Spencer said and you rolled your eyes playfully.
âYou asked what I thought!â you retorted.
He laughed softly, âYes, youâre right, youâre right.â
âMmm, did that taste like poison to admit?â
âAre gunshot victims supposed to be this mouthy?â
a/n: phew! i hope you guys liked it <3 i know i disappeared for a hot minute but here she is!!!

FAINTING & FEVER - When you confess your deep buried feelings to your boss in your fever.
Summary: Hiding a fever? Check. Passing out? Check. Confessing your feelings to your boss? Wait woah?
Fandom: Criminal Minds
Pairing: Aaron Hotchner x reader, BAU x platonic!reader
Genre: Fluff
Warnings: fever, fainting, rest is good I guess.
Word Count: 3.8k
A/N: This was supposed to be platonic but I didn't feel like it is romantic :) This is my first time writing any non-platonic work. All the pics I have inserted are more clear when clicked if you want to see (Tumblr did something). Positive Criticism is welcomed.
"So, what are you ladies up to tonight?" Morgan asked while driving, his focus on the road. You'd just finished a case, and as usual, Morgan was eager to make plans before another case thrust you back into the world's horrors.
"Well," JJ began with a sigh, eyebrows raised, "I'm going to spend the whole day resting with my boys." She finished with her radiant smile.
"What about you, Prentiss?" Morgan glanced at Emily in the passenger seat.
"No plans yet, but who knows? I might have something by the time we land."
"L/N?" Derek called out when he realized you hadn't answered, lost in your own world.
You sat beside Spencer, staring out the window, oblivious to your surroundings. The heat you felt was consuming every coherent thought.
"L/N?"
"Huh? What did you say?" you asked, turning your head so quickly that JJ and Spencer wondered how you didn't get whiplash. Your voice remained calm and soft.
"You okay?" Spencer asked, his hazel eyes filled with concern.
"Why wouldn't I be, Spencer?" you replied, mustering a small smile to maintain your façade.
"You just seem...down," he commented, studying you intently. You gave him another small smile, shook your head, and winced. Your head felt as if it had been struck by an invisible hammer. Spencer either didn't notice your wince or chose not to comment.
"You up for some fun tonight?" Morgan asked again, though you were barely aware.
"What fun?" you frowned. The way he said "fun" made you think it might not be the kind you'd enjoy.
"Seriously, sweet girl? You're spending way too much time with Reid. I'm talking about bars, drinks, and if you get lucky, then maybeâ" Morgan started with a Cheshire grin, while your eyes widened.
"No," you said in a high-pitched tone, embarrassed at the thought of hooking up with a random guy when you already loved someone.
"What do you mean, 'no'? Come on. We don't get many days off, L/N. You should enjoy them when you can."
"Morgan, I can't," you said, shifting uncomfortably.
"And why is that, sweet girl?"
"Hey! Garcia will take offense if you call someone else 'sweet girl,'" you said with a smile, appreciating his use of a nickname for you.
"Nah. My baby girl will never be offended by this, and you're not just someone else," he replied confidently.
"But answer the question, sweet girl," he prompted, aware you were avoiding it. He assumed your hesitation was due to your reluctance to go out, knowing how you and Reid felt about drinking and socializing.
"I've got some work to do, Morgan. Also, I'm tired," you said, leaning your head back.
Morgan's expression changed instantly.
"Go straight home when we land, Y/N, not to Hotch's office. Whatever files you have to work on can wait. If I didn't know him better, I'd say he's making you do overtime."
"Exactly. Hotch will understand, and there's no need to tire yourself out," Spencer added softly.
Their concern warmed your heart. "Of course, gentlemen," you replied, amusing the others.
The conversation drifted back to their plans while you gazed out the window, watching amoeba-shaped clouds float slowly across the sky. The view was therapeutic, but you didn't tell them how awful you were feeling.
When you woke up that morning, it felt as if hell had descended upon Earth just for you. Your muscles ached, protesting and begging you to return to bed, but you couldn't. Lives were at stake, a case needed solving. Now, the muscle pain had given way to a headache and constant zoning out.
You longed to get home as soon as possible, yearning for your fluffy blankets to engulf you completely, save for your head. You hoped your phone might end up in a ditch for the day, allowing you to remain in your cozy cocoon until you felt well enough to face the worldâand potential case callsâagain.
Soon, you arrived at the airstrip, where Emily and JJ surrounded you.
"So, where's your mind wandering today?" Emily asked with a mischievous grin. Before you could answer, JJ chimed in.
"In dreams of Hotch, of course. Right, Y/N?" You quickly shushed her, glancing around to ensure no one had overheard.
"JJ, Emily, we're at the airstrip," you whispered urgently. "Someone might hear you. It's supposed to be a secret. Sometimes I think you and Garcia are determined to let Hotch find out." You began trudging toward the plane, feeling drained.
They both laughed and high-fived.
"We do want you two together," Emily said.
"You should tell him yourself," JJ added. "Besides, if he overhears by accident, it'll only speed up your love life."
"By the way, Y/N, will you only go out with us if Hotch is there too?" Emily teased.
"Guys!" you groaned as they laughed.
Your crush on Hotch had started early in your tenure, initially based on his looks. But it deepened into something more profound, to the point where his well-being affected you deeply. You felt terrified when he faced dangerous situations. That's when you knew you were in trouble.
There was no way he'd fall for someone who could barely speak to him. You had your reasons for avoiding him. The days leading up to this decision were hellish. Never had you stumbled over your words as much as you did then. And what did he do?
He always gave you a patient look and nodded softly, encouraging you to speak your mind. It was manageable until you started losing yourself in his eyes or staring at his face constantly. After that, you ensured you were never alone with him except when working on case files. You began doing this so he could go home early and rest, reasoning that a few extra files wouldn't impact your time.
You were startled from your reverie by the memory of Garcia suggesting that Hotch might like you too. You still don't believe her, but a girl could hope.
"If it gets too much, I want you to pull out."
"Sir?" you asked, confused, looking up from your gun at your boss, who was surveying the team preparing to ambush the unsub's house.
"Everyone has off cases, L/N, but with time, most of us have learned to deal with it. Still, we pull ourselves out when needed. You're still new. So, pull out if necessary. Do you understand me?" he said, now looking at you, his gaze sweeping over your shorter form. You looked up at him intently, lost in his eyes until he raised an eyebrow. You could have sworn you saw his eyes soften slightly.
"Yes, sir."
"Call me Hotch, Y/N." With that, he walked towards the rest of the team as you hurried to catch up.
Back at the FBI building, you dashed to Garcia's lair. She was your first friend, and you both had a tendency to ramble about various topics. Sometimes Reid joined in. As soon as you saw her, you hugged her. Hugging Garcia was like therapyâyou could feel your worries, guilt, and other negative emotions leaving your body. You felt yourself relax, your body lighter. You called it "Garcia magicâ! It was an added bonus that Garcia was fond of physical affection.
When you told her about Hotch's words and your feeling that he was worried and all other incidents where he acted the sameâthough you thought that was impossibleâshe flashed her beaming smile, all her white teeth showing. Her eyes, however, held the amusement of knowing something you didn't.
"I didn't know sweet cheeks, he cares for you this much." Garcia mused, clearly pleased by what you'd shared.
This much? And what do you mean?" you asked, your curiosity evident.
"Hmm hmm. He looks at you the same way Will looks at JJ. He's so soft with you and he isn't like this with anybody. Maybe except Jack of course."
âGarcia thereâs no way in hell he likes me. Maybe he was trying to be sweet.â you asked her trying not to get your hopes up.
This is a paradox. You are sure. Damn sure! Garcia began laughing while you gave her an incredulous look. She didnât stop until you threw a teddy at her. âMy sweet sweet girl, Hotch is never sweet with anyone. Ask Emily about it if you are unsure but nope nada in my so many years of being at BAU, heâs never sweet with anyone.â
"Maybe you are overthinking this Garcia. Hotch and I don't even know each other.â, you mumbled looking at your hands in your lap.
âThat is an argument I will have with you on another day but what I'm saying is that Hotch likes you.", she says with a small almost sad smile.
"If you want you can observe him. You're a profiler baby. Yow will know.", she added gleefully.
Henceforth, you observed Hotch as profiling team members was off-limit. He had a tendency to smile at you softly and he didnât offer others the same amount of options that he did to you , but you attributed this to being new. You were certain he'd show his more authoritative side once you were no longer considered the newest member. Definitely!
Lost in these thoughts, you suddenly felt your vision blur and your surroundings distort.
"Whoa! You okay?" Emily asked as she grabbed your forearm, while JJ held the other. They exchanged concerned looks when you didn't answer immediately. You shook your head slightly and replied,
"Yeah, yeah. Just slipped."
They didn't seem convinced but didn't press further.
"Be careful," JJ said, patting your shoulder.
"Yeah, of course," you mumbled, trying to regain your composure.
Hotch and Rossi chatted as they walked, their conversation drifting from Jack's football to other topics. Before they knew it, they'd arrived at the airstrip. As Hotch boarded the plane, he froze in surprise. You were seated next to his usual spotâan unexpected sight, given your habit of avoiding him outside of group settings or work situations. Your presence there felt nothing short of miraculous.
Not wanting to give Rossi a chance to tease him, Hotch quickly sat beside you. He was certain you hadn't noticed his arrival, as you were deeply engrossed in the case reportâsomething you rarely worked on during flights.
His attention shifted back to Rossi when the older agent began discussing plans for a pasta dinner. From the corner of his eye, Hotch caught you glancing up, offering both him and Rossi a small smile before burying yourself in the file again. It was odd, considering the report wasn't due for days.
He didn't want to finish it quickly, knowing an empty home awaited him. No one would be there to greet himâjust silent walls. Jack was on vacation with Jessica's family for the next few days, leaving Hotch alone in the city. He stole another quick glance at you, resisting the urge to look more often.
Hotch was sure he would never fall in love again after Hayley. He loved her from such a young age and so much that loving someone else felt betraying the love he had bestowed upon Hayley all those years. Even after getting a divorce, he didn't stop loving her completely. Sometimes, he liked to believe they separated not because they fell out of love, but because their love was so intense that their arguments became too painful. However, he knew this wasn't the reality. He sighed and pulled out his file.
His thoughts soon drifted to you. Lately, contemplating love inevitably led him to think of you. Sometimes you don't know what hit you until it does. Falling in love with you was the same. He was falling in and never realised until the day he got a letter. From you.
Hotch had slowly fallen in love with you. That was the truth of his life, he stayed away from for a long time. How could he stay away when your every action seemed to win his heart anew? Each time he learned something new about you, he fell a little deeper.
You were a sweet addition to the team. It didn't mean you were all the time sunshine. Everyone learnt that the hard way. He mentally chuckled at the fight you and Morgan had over dark chocolate to the extent you were ready to beat him black and blue. However, your sweet gestures towards everyone on the team always warmed his heart.
He reminded himself to remain professional. After all, he was on a plane with a group of profilers who could decipher his feelings in minutes if given the chance.
"L/N, can you tell me about theâ"
"L/N?" Hotch called out again, surprised you didn't hear him the first time. Still, you didn't reply. Rossi also looked up.
"Y/N? Y/N!" He said, touching your shoulder.
"Yeah, yeah. What happened?" You looked like a deer caught in headlights, making both Hotch and Rossi confused.
"Nothing happened. I was just asking you about the case," he replied, looking at you. You were looking...different. It was as if every laugh and joy had been drained from your life.
"I'll be right back," you said, standing up and moving before Hotch had a chance to stop you.
The moment you stood up, you knew you shouldn't have done that. You were far better sitting down. Now the pounding in your head intensified, along with the feeling of being shaken up to the point where you could see everything oscillating. You tried to keep yourself still, hoping your surroundings would become normal.
The next thing you knew, everything went black.
Hotch saw you swaying and moved instinctively. He caught you, one hand on your waist, the other on your shoulder, trying to keep you up while you were dead weight. However, it wasn't as easy as it seemed in the movies.
"Y/N? Y/N. Hey, wake up!"
"Y/N!" He squeezed your body against him.
However, his yelling got him nowhere. You didn't respond, lying still in his arms as if you were taking a nap. Hotch would have believed it if he hadn't seen you go down in front of his eyes.
"Y/N," he called out again, softly this time, yet the response was the same. He swept your hair back from your face.
Unable to keep you up, he gently lowered both of you onto the aisle. He moved his hands to your shoulders, gently shaking you, but you showed no sign of waking up.
He didn't notice anyone else until he felt a hand on his shoulder. He looked up and saw Rossi sitting beside him, looking alarmed by the happenings. Morgan was above your head. The rest of the team was also hovering.
"What happened, man?" Morgan asked while taking the sweater Reid offered and putting it under your head.
Hotch didn't answer. He himself didn't know what was wrong with you. One minute, you were standing and the next plummeting down like the apple which led to the discovery of gravity. His hand went to your cheeks, where he felt the heat radiating. His frown appeared and deepened as he touched your forehead.
"She's burning up!" Hotch said worriedly, still keeping his tone full of calmness while his heart was trying to beat out of his chest. Having a fever is one thing but passing out from it is entirely another. He couldn't help but feel the small burning sensation in his chest at the thought of being ill, even if it was a fever.
You could hear people talking, but why would there be people at your home? You scrunched your face and blinked your eyes multiple times before fully opening them. Everything was blurry at first, but soon it became clear, along with the horrible pounding in your head. You tried to sit up, but a firm pair of arms pushed you back.
"Hey Bella, don't try to get up. Stay still."
"Wha-what happened?"
"You fainted," Hotch said. The rest of them had dispersed, knowing Hotch would take great care of you and that a crowd wouldn't help much.
"I don't feel good," you groaned, your hand massaging your head.
"Yeah, I gathered that much. Tell me what's exactly wrong, L/N?" Hotch had your hand in his, rubbing it softly to ease the pain in any way he could.
"I don't feel good," you mumbled again with half-closed eyes. You were mostly disoriented from what Hotch could figure out.
"You have a fever."
"I do?"
It was taking you time to gather what was happening. He blamed the fainting and fever. It took you time, but you slowly opened your eyes fully when you noticed Hotch still sitting at the edge of the sofa. He still held your hand, and your legs were on his lap. Being in touch with him felt like second nature; you didn't even notice until you opened your eyes. You quickly tried to pull back your legs and hand, but Hotch stopped you with his hold.
"Don't move so much, Y/N. Relax," his voice soft and calming, as always.
You sat in silence for the rest of the journey, which wasn't very long. You were clutching onto his forearm as he helped you sit up to go home. When you came outside the plane,
"Hotch, I can go home by myself," you began, your voice small, hoping to regain some of the dignity you lost after fainting in front of your entire team.
"Y/N, you can't stand straight, and you want to drive home by yourself?" Hotch asked with a raised eyebrow.
"There are other ways to be suicidal than this, sweet girl," Morgan quipped, walking beside you, not that you noticed. You looked up at him and then at Hotch, concern shining in both of their eyes.
"I'm not joking," you huffed.
"Neither are we," Morgan said.
"Y/N, it's final. I'm taking you home," Hotch ordered. That's what it felt like to you.
Hotch had an arm around your waist, supporting you as your body threatened to collapse. He hurried towards your apartment, aware of your rising fever. He couldn't give you medicine without food, but he was grateful for your unfiltered speechâit revealed the extent of your discomfort.
"You know, Hotch?" you began as he fumbled with the door. You leaned against the wall for support.
"Dahlias are my favourite flowers. They symbolize change, dignity, and elegance."
"They're native to Mexico, right?" he replied as you entered the apartment.
"Yeah! You know about them?" you asked, turning your face abruptly.
"Easy, honey. No sudden moves," he cautioned. "And yes, I've picked up a few facts over the years."
"I've always loved them. So colourful, bright, and beautiful," you laughed softly.
Hotch had never heard you speak so freely. He found himself enchanted by your voice, certain you could rival Reid in flower trivia.
After settling you on the sofa, Hotch fetched water, fruit, and medicine. You tossed your shoes aside and reluctantly took the pills, groaning as you slumped back.
"You should change into something more comfortable," Hotch suggested, removing his own shoes.
You looked at him, startled. Realizing his phrasing, he quickly clarified, "I mean, you should put on some comfy clothes."
At his insistence, you changed. When you returned, Hotch had shed his coat and tie, his shirt partially unbuttoned.
"Aren't you going home?" you asked, confused.
"I'll stay tonight, in case you need anything."
"There's no need, Hotch. You must be exhausted from the case. Go home and rest. I'll be fine."
"Y/N, it's better if someone's with you tonight. You fainted on the plane. I wouldn't be able to relax not knowing how you're doing," he admitted, his voice soft.
You smiled at his thoughtfulness and curled up on the sofa with a blanket and pillow. You both decided to watch Star Wars.
Partway through the movie, you turned to Hotch, staring intently.
"You know, Hotch?"
"Yes?"
"I love you. Like, really, really love you," you said with a lopsided smile.
Hotch froze, completely still. He hadn't been this motionless since he first held Jack, afraid of hurting his newborn son. He never imagined you reciprocated his feelings, but he knew if he didn't get the conversation going right now, he not going to know about your feelings when you are not loopy due to medicine.
âYea?â
"Mm-hmm. You're so wonderful and adorable and just... so cute. Yeah, you're intimidating at work, but the rest of the time? Totally cute."
"Oh, am I?"
Though your tongue was loosened by the medicine, you were more lucid than you let on. Having suppressed these feelings for so long, you couldn't stop now that you'd started. You wanted to tell him everythingâhim about all those feelings that you shouldn't have about him but you do, how couldn't help but fall for him slowly and every day seeing him made your day.
He was so handsome! His pretty dark brown chocolate-coloured eyes are swoon-worthy. Whenever you look into them, you feel hypnotized, unable to look away from them but not being present in the time; you often find yourself lost in them, forgetting his words as you gaze at him. Right now, he was looking directly at you, and you were drowning in his gaze.
How does he not realize the effect he has when he looks at someone like this?
Hotch's smile grew with each word you spoke.
"You're so handsome, ridiculously handsome. Have you seen yourself under that table lamp? You look like some movie hero poring over case files."
He blushed and glanced away at your flood of compliments. You cupped his face, turning it back to you, your eyes wide and intent. His smile made your frown melt into the biggest grin he'd ever seen on you. You looked beautiful.
"I just really like you, but I know you don't like me," you said, your voice small.
He frowned at your words.
"I love you too, honey, but I'll give you the full answer when you're well enough to remember it. Word for word," he replied softly.
You squealed with delight.
"You aren't just saying this to spare my feelings, right?" you mumbled a few moments later.
He cradled your face in his hands. "I would never say such a thing just to spare someone's feelings, Y/N. I love you. More than you can imagine."
Your questioning continued throughout the movie, but you refused to turn it off.
"You must have had many admirers in college. How many girlfriends did you have?" you asked, your head resting on his shoulder while his hand on your waist pulled you closer. Both of you kept your eyes on the TV.
"I only had one."
"No, you're lying. You're far too handsome to have had only one girlfriend your entire life."
'You can become the second.'
"What did you say?"
"I didn't say anything, sweetheart."
"Did you just call me sweetheart?"
"You're imagining things, L/N. It's a common symptom of high fever. Of course, I didn't call you sweetheart, honey."
"Oh, but Iâyou just called meâ"
"What?"
"Never mind. I must be imagining it."
"Yes, you're definitely imagining things."

~~~
Halloween Night.
You and your friends had been planning to go out like you had since you were teenagers. Getting dressed up in your sluttiest best Halloween costumes, going to your favorite spot in town to eat, then hitting up some parties.
Your group took up a large table at the same old diner you always met at. Friends pregaming with flasks and shot bottles they snuck in. Some more blitzed than others. As you got older, the desire for partying was beginning to leave your body. Wanting to be completely black out drunk in public becoming more embarrassing than exhilarating.
So when your best friend decided she wanted to mess with one of your fellow patrons, a lump formed in your stomach.
A tall man dressed in a half white and half black clown costume sat at one of the tables alone. Giant shoes adorned his feet, the tip of his long nose had a black dot on it, and a bald cap with a tiny hat rested upon his head. He had been staring at your group since he arrived. Most of your friends too out of it to notice.
Your friend walked over, leaning over the table he sat at. Pushing her cleavage directly in his face as she spoke to him. âNice costume,â she batted her lashes at him. His expressionless face stared at her. A semi aggravated frown on his face. Everyone at your table began giggling as you watched in horror. She took a seat directly in his lap, wrapping one of her arms around him. She tugged at the hat on his head, smacking it down with a pop. âAwe, look how cute. But dontcha think it would look better one me,â she grabbed the hat off his head. Pulling the string and placing it down on her own.
Embarrassment ate away at your insides. All your friends stared and snickered at the situation. The man seemingly unfazed. She flicked at his nose with her finger. You could not take it any longer.
âOh my God,â you grabbed her by the arm and yanked her away from him, âI am so sorry. If I had known she was going to do that I wouldâve stopped her sooner.â You ripped the tiny hat off her head. âHereâs that. Once again Iâm so sorryââ
âWhy do you keep apologizing to this freak?!â
You shot a look at her, brows pushed together in frustration. Pulling her outside of the restaurant. She fought for you to let go of her. Stumbling in her drunken state.
âWhat the fuck is wrong with you! Why are you acting like this?â You were hurt by your friendâs actions.
âWhy do you even give a shit, Y/N? Thatâs just some random skeezeball in a restaurant. I could fuck him and weâd never have to see him again.â
âBecause youâre embarrassing me!â You shouted, folding your arms over your chest. Taking a deep breath and blinking away the feeling you were harboring.
She stood in front of you with a look of disgust on her face. Her hand planted firmly on her hip. A laugh erupting from her. Wrapping her hand around your wrist and pulling you back inside. Presenting you in front of the table of all your friends. âGo ahead if thatâs really how you feel, Y/N,â she cocked her head to the side.
âIâ I, uhââ
âY/N said sheâs embarrassed by us. Guess we huwt hew widdle feewings!â Your friend pushed out her bottom lip and mocked you. The entire table laughed at you. All your so called friends calling you names like âDebby Downerâ or âSour Pussâ or âBuzz Kill.â
You stood frozen in shock. Unable to believe all your friends you had known so long were treating you this way. All of them a little drunk, but not drunk enough for them to not know what they were doing.
âCome on, everybody. Since weâre so embarrassing to be around. You can stay here,â your friend patted you on the head as she and everyone else threw some cash on the table to cover their bills. You were in disbelief. Feeling abandoned and hurt. Ashamed.
You looked over at the Clown Man who you were defending previously. His gaze fixated on you, expression completely emotionless. Sharp eyes cutting into you. Walking over to him one last time as you began to leave, âI really am sorry she did that. I hope your night goes better than mine.â You gave him a closed mouth smile as you walked out of the restaurant. Lifeless eyes watching you exit.
You held yourself as you walked home. Cold breeze hitting your revealed skin, sending chill bumps down your body. You tugged at the short skirt you wore when you saw a group of guys staring at you. Suddenly uncomfortable in your costume. You arrived home and began getting ready for the night ahead. You did love passing out candy. Something you really had not got to do in a long time. You loved seeing all the kids dressed up, excited for their sugar filled treats.
Time passed and the knocks on your door were scarce. Disappointed in the lack of trick-or-treaters. Feeling like you had lost all love for this holiday. One that was your favorite. Deciding to pass on dinner and just bake some cookies instead.
You sat on your couch mindlessly watching TV. The lack of trick-or-treaters had you drifting in and out of sleep. Finally dozing offâŚ
You were in a dark room. Only lit by candlelight. A musky smell filled the air. You looked down to see yourself completely nude. Wrists and ankles tied to the frame of the large bed you laid on. Confusion ran through you.
Footsteps filled the room. Straining your neck to look down the dark hallway through the open door. Complete silence coming from the darkness other than the loud clap of shoes. The Clown from the restaurant earlier walked into the dim light. Facial expression flat, eyes piercing down at you. Heat dripped down your body knowing he was seeing you completely nude and on display. Approaching the edge of the bed, his head falling to the side as he stared at your bare pussy. A wicked grin crept upon his face.
His hand dug deep down into the bag he carried. The sound of all different textures of things tussled against each other as he went shoulder deep looking for something. An excited look washed over his face as his hand gripped around what he had been looking for. Pulling a deep red, microphone shaped vibrator from the bag. Your entire body flushed.
He crawled on the edge of the bed between your spread legs. Clicking the vibrator to the setting he thought you would enjoy most before teasing around your pussy with it. You moaned at the sudden sensation. Your thighs began trembling as he edged closer and closer to your throbbing nub. When the toy finally found its place on your sweet spot you called out to him, your hips arching at the feeling. Making circular motions with the vibrator, pulling every noise from you he could. Watching as your chest heaved with each shaky breath.
The waves of your first orgasm washed over you like a tsunami. Every inch of you quaking as pure ecstasy pumped through your veins. The Clown smiled at you from the position he was in. A prominent tent pitched through his satin suit. You bit your lip watching him palm himself through the fabric. Mouth beginning to water as the spot of his suit grew darker with his pre-cum. You rolled your hips at him, encouraging him to fuck you.
Dark eyes shot up to look into yours. Hand never leaving his erect member. Your eyes pleaded with him, a small quiet âpleaseâ falling from your quivering lips.
His hand clawed at the fabric around his cock, ripping open a hole big enough for him to pull himself out. Eyes unable to look away from how his gloved hand wrapped around his member. Tugging at his erection, his head falling back ever slightly as he savored the feeling of his hand. Almost like he was putting on a show for you.
His body weighed down the bed as he positioned himself to be directly in front of your aching core. Head of his cock prodding at your entry. Tremors of anticipation quaked through you. His lips were barely parted as he looked down at your face. Hooded eyes enjoying the view of you. He rubbed the tip against your folds, collecting all the remnants of you on himself. Ready to delve in.
⌠A loud knock at the door pulled you awake. You had been dozed off for a few hours now. It was almost too late at night for kids to be out. You sat up, grabbing the bowl of candy off the table in front of you. A second more aggressive knock. âOn my way!â You called out as you walked to the front door.
Opening the door to a familiar costumed man. The Clown your friend had been rude to earlier. Little old to be trick-or-treating, but you did not care. âOhâ Hey! Itâs you,â flashes of the dream you had been having about him ran through your mind. Heat rising to your cheeks. You swallowed heavy. A toothy grin painted his face as he waved excitedly at you. Holding up a black garbage bag asking for candy from your bowl. You smiled grabbing a large handful of candy and putting it in the bag for him. His eyebrows rose as his mouth morphed into a perfect âOâ shape. His hand went up to his lips blowing a silent kiss at you. You caught it with your hand and placed it on your cheek with a giggle.
âThere plenty more where that came from. Youâre probably my last trick-or-treater for the night. Iâve got all this candy left,â you shook the bowl tossing the candy around in it. The Clown stood before you not saying anything. Eyes staring at you with a wicked grin on his face.
The loud sound of your fire alarm going off made you jump right out of your skin. You looked over your shoulder then back at the man in front of you. His eyebrows furrowed with concern. âOhâ Oh, Crap! I forgot about the cookies I put in the oven!â You rushed back into your house leaving the door wide open. Running into your kitchen and grabbing the oven mitts you had left on the counter, pulling the charred cookies out and throwing the pan into the sink, running cold water over it. Smoke engulfed your kitchen. You opened the window over the sink, fanning the thick fumes out of the window with your oven mitt. Coughing as you accidentally inhaled some of the tar.
You leaned over the counter, hearing the squeak of shoes approaching you identical to what you had heard in your dream. You looked up to see the Clown examining your house. Waving his hand in front of his face as he scrunched up his nose at the smell. You sighed, âIâm so sorry. I didnât even get to introduce myself to you yet. Iâm Y/N.â He waved at you acknowledging the introduction.
âDonât say much do you?â
He shook his head aggressively.
âHmm. Then how am I going to learn your name?â
He gleamed excitedly. Coming over and grabbing you by the wrist. Pulling you to your fridge where you had countless letters, newspaper clippings, and coupons pinned. He pointed to a picture about the local go-cart racing tournament that happened a few weeks back.
âCart?â
He made an âXâ with his hands, shaking his head in disagreement. He reemphasized the âXâ before holding up one finger.
âOkay, minus one letter.â
He nodded with a bright smile.
âCar?â
He folded his arms over his chest, a look of disappointment on his face. His head falling to the side with a look that said âreally?â
âOkay. Okay. Art?â
He jumped up and down clapping his hands with joy. Nodding his head rapidly. Clearly thrilled that you were so good at guessing.
âArt! I like that name,â you smiled suddenly realizing that his grip around your wrist stayed. Blushing at how close your bodies were to each other. Remembering your fantasy you were having about it pulling heat to your face.
âWell, since youâre already in here might as well make yourself comfortable. If you wanna sit in the living room I can bring you a glass of water or something,â you smiled. His wide eyes stared at you, smile never leaving his face. He slowly gave you a thumbs up before spinning on his heel and going into your living room.
âCan I tell you something crazy?â You smiled as you sat the glass down in front of him. He nodded. âIâ you were just in my dream.â His mouth morphed into an âOâ shape, eyebrows raised in intrigue. âI dozed off after I got ditched at the diner. And we wereâ uhâ well, you were. I wasââ Embarrassment washed over you. Realizing you were about to admit to having a sex dream about a complete stranger.
He made an okay gesture with one hand, sticking his opposite pointer finger into the o. You blushed at his insinuation. You nodded coyly. His face fell into a look telling you he thought your thoughts were naughty. Chastising you with his finger. You smiled. He rested his chin on one of his hands propped against his leg, waving for you to continue with the other.
âOH! No, you donât want to hear the details or anything. It wasâŚâ you hid your face from him slightly. Unsure of what to say about the dream. Too awkward to fully admit it.
Art crawled off the couch, resting his chin on your bare knees like a begging puppy. A large frown decorating his face as he fluttered his eyes at you. Wide eyes stared down at him in your lap. Your nerves were set on fire. The source being where his chin touched your bare skin. You swallowed back hard.
He pressed his lips into the skin of your exposed thigh. Biting the soft flesh, leaving grease paint anywhere his lips touched. You felt your body quiver as his teeth dug into you. Bites turned into long licks. Saliva painted your exposed skin. âArt~â you moaned loving the feeling of him on your skin. A wicked grin crept on his face.
Partially gloved hands pried your legs open. Sadistic eyes stared at your clothed core. Noting how you had already soaked through your panties. Licking his way up your skin before planting a sloppy kiss on your core. You slid down the couch exposing yourself better to him. His long tongue lapped over your soaked entry, sucking on the fabric. Your hands gripped his head, eyes rolling back as he worked on you.
He suddenly stood up. You fluttered your eyes up at him. He walked over to his previous seat on the couch. Digging through the black trash bag he carried with him. Making a surprised face when his hand found what it was looking for.
Everything was so familiar...
Pulling something out and hiding it behind his back. Gesturing for you to join him. Patting his lap as you got closer to him. Hesitantly you straddled him. He leaned back into the couch, hooded eyes scanning your entire body. A mischievous grin painted his dirty teeth. He grabbed at your panties, ripping them clean off. Holding them up to his nose and taking a deep inhale, eyes rolling back into his head. Over exaggerating his exhale and putting your ripped garment down into his trash bag. The cool air against your now exposed core sent chills across your entire body.
There was a sudden hum coming from behind Art. He pretending to look around as if he could not find the source of the sound. You blushed at the realization of the noise. Revealing the same deep red want from your dream. You gasped.
"That's the same one from my-"
He cut you off by pressing the toy against your throbbing clit. You moaned loudly, throwing your head back. You rolled your hips against the vibrating silicone. Fire igniting deep inside you. Lost in the feeling.
Art watched how you played with yourself on the toy. His cock begging for the same attention the vibrator was getting. He smacked the side of your thigh to get your attention. Pulling you from your horny, dumb state. Your eyes meeting his gaze. His brows furrowed together as he pointed down to his erect cock. You continued your motions as you reached around to unzip his clown suit. Sliding the satin off his shoulders. His pale, slender body revealing itself to you. Propping yourself up so he could shimmy the material around his ankles. Noticing how he wore no underwear under the suit. You smiled as you stared at his cock.
Your first orgasm was rapidly approaching with the pace of the toy pressed into you. Art's gloved hands guided you down onto his member. Throwing his head back as you sunk down. The way your walls sucked him right in. Almost like your body was begging to be fucked. He blinked hard, his jaw agape. Hands encouraging you to bounce up and down. From the first few hops your orgasm took over you. Moaning his name and shaking. Walls gripping his member inside you. Art licked his teeth, mocking your orgasm face.
You expected him to move the wand so that he could fuck you to his own high. However, he pressed it firmer into your aching nub. Your hips rutted forward. Shocked expression taking over your face as you panted above him. Sweat decorating your skin.
"I-I can't do an-another one," you pleaded with the Clown. Your senses in overdrive as your pussy still spasmed around him occasionally. He pouted, mocking your pleas. Nodding his head to tell you, you would be having another one. Shaking entirely as he began a relentless pace inside you. Snapping his hips flush against your ass with each aggressive thrust. You cried out with each crack of skin. Overwhelmed with how good he felt inside you.
Fingers dinging into his bare shoulders. Gripping him tight enough to break the skin. His own fingers held your hips with a bruising force as he continued bouncing you on him. Feeling yourself approach another orgasm. Air hitching in your throat feeling your skin burn with pleasure.
Art reached one of his hands up and wrapped it around your throat. Squeezing tighter than anyone had ever before. Having you seeing stars, feeling like you could faint at any moment. Truly taking your breath away from you.
HONK!
A silver horn was shoved in your face as he released your throat. Bringing you back to the situation. Also causing you to grip his member again. He mimed a laugh when your body jumped at the sudden noise.
His head fell back against the head of the couch as he savored the feeling of you wrapped around him. Knowing his end was approaching. Sloppily thrusting up into you, circling your clit with the want. Willing you to cum at the same time. You watched as his Adam's apple bobbed in his throat. Wishing you could lean forward and bite at his flesh. Decorate his skin with your markings. But you were far too close to your second high to change positions now.
Screaming out to him as you came far harder than the first time. You felt Art shoot up into you, spilling his hot seed into you. Continuing to thrust up into you as he rode out both your highs. Watching how he leaked out of you and pooled around his base. Smiling for a moment before his face fell flat. He helped you off his lap, sitting you beside him. Standing and attempting to reach his zipper on the back.
You stood and helped him. Making sure to pull the zipper away from his skin to prevent any accidents. Art turned and tipped his hat to you. You blushed as you stood in front of the man who just rocked your world.
You watched as he grabbed his black bag and threw it over his shoulder. Heading towards the door. Turning to blow a kiss at you one last time.
Catching it and placing it on your lips. Blowing one right back at him. He pretending to rub the blush off his cheeks.
And just as quick as he had entered he exited your home. You waved goodbye. Choosing not to question the stranger you had let into your home for a quick fuck.
Watching as he disappeared into the night.
Stay with me?
Masterlist - Horror masterlist - Misc.
Art the Clown x female reader
Warnings: smut (18+)
Summary: As his eyes fell upon your slouched figure on the red bench, rolling your eyes in boredom at whatever your friend was prattling on about, Art realised he had either made a grave mistake or stumbled upon something incredibly right.
Notes: don't worry, the toilet seat is closed, no Art "art" in this oneshot đ
Reader: female reader, female genitals, no pronouns except you
Art continued to blink in disbelief, his body frozen mid-movement. This was not the usual scenario he found himself in, and his mind struggled to grasp the reality of being pinned down on the toilet seat of the small pizza place, with you straddling him.
It was always the same, he'd pick a girl, or two, obviously flirt with her, she'd be crept out, run, scream and then he'd butcher her, slowly, make a funny spectacle out of it and call it a day. The perfect plan for an evening's twisted entertainment. But tonight was different. As his eyes fell upon your slouched figure on the red bench, rolling your eyes in boredom at whatever your friend was prattling on about, Art realised he had either made a grave mistake or stumbled upon something incredibly right. In that very moment, when your gaze met his for the first time, an inexplicable and unfamiliar pressure gripped his chestâa warning and an irresistible urge all at once. Before he knew what happened, his body found its way to the seat on the opposite side of you and your friends. He rested his elbows on the table, placing his chin in his folded hands, while a wide smile adorned his black painted lips, revealing his decaying teeth. Little did Art know that the first flutter of butterflies had already emerged within you when you spotted him outside the quaint restaurant. Otherwise, there wouldn't have been this genuine surprise that washed over his twisted mind when he spotted your charming smile directed at him. His hands fumbled on the tiny ring on your finger, as if they couldn't believe you had actually accepted it and that, in return, you gifted him a tight warm hug.
Art's head fell back against the cold tiles, his mouth gaping in a silent moan, eyes wide open, staring blankly at the ceiling when you sunk down on him. The way your wet cunt swallowed him completely, your greedy walls clenching around his throbbing length, it would classify perfectly under "exquisitely divine" or at least whatever someone as rotten as Art might deem as such. He was a creature of many pleasures, ranging from the bloodiest to the most macabre. However, this was novel to him, prompting his mind to consider adding this sensual discovery to his usual repertoire of amusements. His gloved hands shifted to your hips, fingers digging into your soft flesh, guiding your movements and urging you to quicken the pace. Art took a deep quivering breath, teetering on the precipice of that sweet release that beckoned him to surrender but instead he tried to focus on his surroundings. The soft fabric of his costume pulled around his feet brushing against his skin with each movement, the hum of the flickering light above casting dancing shadows upon the cabin walls around the two of you while the luscious melody of your moans cradled his rotten heart.
Fingertips gently grasped his chin, guiding his head downwards to meet your gaze once more. Sinful delight danced across your face as you whispered his name in a seductive murmur. A fierce fire blazed in your eyes as they locked with his and he suddenly felt like burning away underneath your gentle touch. Art's body tensed for a moment before finally tumbling into the abyss of the pleasure you had unveiled before him. Countless images flooded his mind, filling every crevice of his thoughts as he came undone. You followed soon after, your lips crashing on his in a passionate kiss. As you pulled away, a blissful expression adorned the beauty of your face and your hazy eyes stared into his distorted soul, a firework exploded throughout Art's entire body. The others in the restaurant felt as far as the faint murmurs behind that closed door and in this moment, only you existed. You became the new center of his universe, his beloved muse whose every touch and sound granted him visions of a world painted in blood. He had to keep you, all to himself and, somehow, it felt only natural to him, as if this decision had been engraved in stone since the beginnings of Hell. Art tilted his head slightly, observing with curiosity as you climbed off him and cleaned both of you up. You took an exaggerated bow and held your hand out with a mischievous grin as if you invited him to take it and stand up. He gladly accepted, lifting himself up and kissing the back of your hand with a wide smile before pulling up his costume. He mimicked a sigh, shaking his head while a genuine happy smile tugged at the corners of his lips. It became undeniable how it delighted him that you had chosen to join in the pantomime from the moment you realised he wouldn't communicate in any other way. The gleeful joy and that hint of a mischievous sparkle in your eyes proved that you were more than willing to play his fun little games with him.
Art led you to the mirror, exhaling onto it before he hastily scribbled something in the mist on its surface.
Will you come and stay with me? đ¤
You nodded and chuckled, playfully tapping his shoulder.
"Did you really believe I'd let someone as delicious as you leave again?"
He feigned a thoughtful expression before shaking his head. His fingers entwined with yours and he guided you out. Both of you walked past your friend, out of the pizza place, disappearing into the dark of the night.
Decoy [S. R.]
Spencer Reid x fem!reader
word count: 6.9k
summary: when you go after an unsub who catches students making out, the unit is called upon to resort to desperate measures. Or in other words, where you and Spencer become the decoy to catch a voyeur.
warnings: +16. Making out, mentions of alcohol, mentions of violence, insinuation of smut, sexual tension
Do yourself a favor and imagine Spencer in these clothes during the case
You sighed, completely frustrated, while you looked for the thousandth time at the blackboard with some information from the profile that you had made for the criminal in this case.
You believed that the unsub was a Caucasian man between 30 and 35 years old, whose motive was to spy on and photograph university students who were escaping in their cars to make out at night, then force them to have sex in front of him and finally kill them cold-blooded. You imagined that he was a person with a mediocre job, that he felt insufficient, and that his voyeuristic behavior probably came from sexual frustration, something that could be corroborated by the violence that he inflicted on the genital area of the students whom he stalked using a knife, his mark on all homicides. You also believed that perhaps the rejection or abandonment of his last partner (preceded by a bad streak from his youth) due to his impotence had been the triggering event for all his repressed impulses to come to light.
All the psychological analysis was fine, it wasn't something you hadn't seen before, but the hard part of all this? Because he only threatened and killed people, he didn't rape them, at first it was almost impossible to tell who it was. He already had 20 victims in total and you weren't even close to catching him. In the last scene he had made the mistake of leaving a fingerprint and Garcia had been able to trace his true identity: Oliver Davis, a guy who fits the description perfectly. Unfortunately, this turned out to be useless because beyond the accusations of being a pervert, the man didnât have much information that would give a clue to his whereabouts, you had even called the job that he had registered and all you had obtained was that he had several months without working there, which coincided with the beginning of the murders. After that Rossi suggested that he probably lived in a trailer (old, due to his lack of employment) where he developed the photographs and kept his trophies. That only made more sense when you thought that it would make it easier to transport or escape in case things got messy.
But words on paper and intelligent conclusions were of absolutely no use to you. You needed a plan to catch him.
"Do you have something, Reid?" Hotch had asked. You had already interviewed some students, you had set up guard duty to look for any suspicious behavior and you had even shared the photograph of the suspect in the media, but nothing had worked; The only thing left was to carry out the geographical profile to know the area in which he was attacking and thus be able to search for possible targets.
âI triangulated the locations we have of his previous homicides and I'm guessing he hits in this specific area,â he muttered, pointing to a space on the map he had on his blackboard with his middle finger. âConsidering it's an area frequented by the age group due to its proximity to the universities and that it has several parks that the students told us they use to drink or go out as a coupleâ
"So what?" Morgan said from his spot. "We just wait until he kills someone else and hopefully we're near the scene to hear the screams?"
âMaybe we can ask the cops to patrol the area for the unsub's car,â JJ suggested.
âHe's smart, there's a trailer park right here. It wouldn't be strange to find one on the streets as well.â Reid was visibly frustrated like everyone else and he ran a hand through his hair with some despair.
Your options were running out and frankly you couldn't think of anything else.
âAnd if we give him a target?â Emily murmured. Noticing that none of you said anything, she went on to explain her plan, âWe ask police officers to send any young people they see around to home so we force our unsub to get close to who we wantâ
"And what are we going to do? Hire a couple of college kids to stalk them?â
âWe can use our own teamâ
"Not to offend you, Prentiss, but we are no longer in the prime of youth"
"We don't, but Y/L/N and Reid do" when you heard your last name you were surprised, but when you heard your friend's you practically froze. First you looked at her and then at the doctor, whose gaze reflected the same stupefaction as you "You two are young, you might look like students"
"Are you saying you want to send us straight into the hands of a sexual predator?" you couldn't be offended, after all, those risks were part of the job, but you did feel somewhat reluctant about the idea.
âDo you have a better suggestion?â
âIt doesn't sound so badâ Rossi murmured âIt's a smart moveâ
âBesides, we would be watching around and we would intervene before that madman got close to you. Once we catch him, the photographs and personal items that he probably has in his trailer will be enough evidence, in addition to the fingerprint from the last crime sceneâ to your surprise, Derek was also pretty convinced of the plan that Emily had just devised.
"Reid, Y/L/N, would you guys be up for it?" Hotch exclaimed with his usual serious tone, looking at you and then at your partner.
Thinking objectively, the suggestion was very good. But thinking about it personally, you felt worried about the danger you two would be running into⌠oh, God. It wasn't until then that you realized that the plan to catch the suspect involved the two of you making out like a couple of hormonal college kids.Â
You knew that the options that remained wouldnât be as opportune as that and taking into account the temporary nature with which Oliver operated, in addition to the fact that he was already deteriorating as a murderer, it was most likely that he was already looking for new victims, so if you did that same night the chances of success were quite high. You were between a rock and a hard place and all you could do was look at him while the gazes of the rest of the room were divided between the two of you.
âI⌠I'll only do it if you say yesâ you exclaimed in his direction, with a cautious voice and a fearful look. You knew your friend and you didn't want to make him feel uncomfortable in any way, even though you knew that both you and he knew that your personal interests would take precedence against the possibility that another couple of victims would lose their lives if you refused. It was your job, you had to do it.Â
"Are you sure you guys are going to catch him before something happens?" Spencer asked your boss. You thought that with his background the last thing he wanted was to end up kidnapped or seriously injured again, even though the truth was that he was caring just as much about himself as he was about you. He had seen the photographs and knew that women were the most affected by the murder weapon⌠he didn't even want to imagine something like this happening to you.
"Of course. You will have communication with us and if something goes wrong we will get you out of there immediately" Aaron answered and your friend sighed nervously and then looked for your approval. You nodded slightly and he delivered the verdict, to which everyone agreed.
He was still standing, but after that he slumped into the nearest chair as he listened to everyone brainstorming ideas for setting up the scene, distributing the crew, and what they would tell the local police to do to make the decoy effective.
At some point you lost the whole point of the conversation, to start thinking about what was implied by what you were about to do.
The feeling of attraction for your co-worker had been latent in you for a couple of years, but you had never confessed it to anyone to avoid creating tension in the team or suffering the humiliation of certain rejection. Also, you knew that a crush meant distractions from what was truly important and you had tried, in vain, to eliminate it completely. But even if it hadn't completely gone, you had known how to control it, only allowing yourself to look at him with loving eyes from time to time and avoiding being too confident with him during group drinking outings. You even limited physical contact, not because you didn't like it but because you knew your greed would demand more and more of you until it became inevitable to beg for his touch. But now all that good work holding you back was screwed because in a few hours you would have to be passionately making out with him.
Still with the internal crisis, you raised your head to look at him and realized that he too had been submerged in his own tide of thoughts, which you hoped would be more positive than yours. At some point Spencer felt you watching him and when his eyes met yours he gave you that tight-lipped smile that was strangely comforting, to which you responded with the same gesture. After that it didn't take long for everyone to leave the room to fulfill their respective tasks, but you stayed seated because you honestly didn't feel enough energy to move. Besides, you had nothing entrusted to you, you were the bait.
"Hey, are you sure you're okay with this?" Spencer asked you, once everyone else had left. He looked so tired of everything, but at the same time there was a kind tone in his voice about him that made you smile.
âIt's just kissing, Spence. I think we'll be fine" you assured him, trying to swallow all your embarrassment and nerves "And you?"
"I agree. I just hope we get lucky today or we'll just have to keep tryingâÂ
"Reid, I need you to tell the cops what area we'll be in," Hotch interrupted you from the door. "You still have time to regret it," he added, looking at the two of you.
You immediately denied and after that Spencer withdrew from there in the company of Aaron. When you were about to drop you exhaled, completely concerned about the last thing your partner had said.
We will just have to keep trying. You didn't know if the idea excited you, or terrified you.
As night fell, Spencer drove the old pickup truck the unit had managed to rent for the two of you to drive into the park, with you in the passenger seat and a six-pack of beer in the backseat.
Although you were sure that it would be cold, you had decided to wear shorts and a button-down shirt that you normally wore for work, but that you had adjusted to make it look more youthful. Spencer was wearing an outfit that Morgan had gotten for him from a department store, simple jeans with a rather baggy cotton shirt and some nice boots that you didn't know where he got from, since in Quantico you had never seen him wear anything like that.
Both of you had showered at the hotel (separately of course) and you had made sure to brush your teeth and put on a good amount of deodorant and perfume before getting in the car. You had paid special attention to your appearance, not because it was necessary, but because you wanted to look perfect for him. Even with all this, you were a nervous wreck next to him, not saying a word along the way and only soft music from the radio filling the air.
When you stopped, the two of you put your headphones on to the channel the team was supposed to be on, and Morgan answered in the affirmative.
"Remember, he doesn't have to see the communicator or your weapon," Rossi spoke, who was also in the van, along with Prentiss and Hotch. "GarcĂa will be watching with the security cameras and he will warn us if the trailer is coming"
"And meanwhile what do we do?"
"Pretend to be a couple, sit on the tailgate and drink beer, laugh, I don't know"
âDid you ever run away like that in college?â you asked, directly at Reid.
âDo you remember that I was like 16 when I studied at the university, right? I wasn't even old enough to drive, much less a car" he muttered and you gave a short laugh "I guess you did"
âI was too busy being the best in the institution to even think about going out and making out with idiots,â you replied, proud of yourself for that. âI mean, it's not like you're an idiot, but they were. You're very smart," you rambled, still twiddling your fingers, "Hotch, you guys will tell us when we're going to start kissing, will you?"
âWhen the suspect approaches, yesâ
"Okay, well... then we have to go out, huh?" you muttered to him as you reached for the beers and tried to open the door to get out. You turned, expecting to see Spencer do the same as you, but noticed that he had lingered in the car for a moment, checking himself in the mirror and applying his lips with chapstick.
My God, could that man make you more nervous?
When he finally caught up with you, you went to the back of the pickup, where you opened the tailgate to sit down with a little hop. Spencer was tall enough to keep up with you just by leaning over the edge, where you watched him cross his arms. You were silent for a few moments, listening to the sound of crickets and cars in the distance.
"Do you think it's a good idea to drink?"
"Only a little. I'm having a hard time thinking while sober, I don't want to ruin the little reasoning I have leftâ you exclaimed as a joke. Or maybe you weren't joking so much "Just empty a couple of cans and leave them on the floor so he'll think we're really drunk." Spencer was about to do what you said when you noticed an important detail and called him over to look at you "Come here, let me fix your hair."
"What's wrong with my hair?"
"You're very well combed, it's not the image we expect" you carefully took his hand until it was close enough to pass the other through all his golden locks, messing them up enough to give him that relaxed touch that he should have. He looked so handsome, but not in the style of a fancy FBI agent but just like a young intellectual who went to parties and smoked weed âLike this. Perfect"
âDo you think we have to think of some backstory?â he asked and you looked at him with a frown. âYou know, something about us. What degree are we studying, what are our namesâŚâ
"This is not a play"
"It's rude to eavesdrop on conversations, Prentiss," you said visibly annoyed, although looking at your partner that expression softened "As you wish, Spencer. Although being honest, I would say that you study⌠literatureâ
"Really?" he exclaimed with slight enthusiasm. You knew that his mother had been a teacher in the subject and you wondered if he had ever considered it.
âMorgan wasnât wrong to choose those clothes for you. It suits youâ you complimented him and Morgan whistled from the other end of the line. You felt like you were having too much fun for the situation you were in, but you needed to talk about something else to put off the reminder of what you had come to do for as long as possible. âI think you would have that hopeless philosopher/romantic vibe who flirts by whispering memorized poetry in your ear.â
âI actually know some good onesâ
"Sure you do" you smiled gently, suppressing the thought of him sighing close to your neck at BĂŠcquer "I'd probably study science or something."
"The unattainable scientist with whom the captain of the soccer team has a secret crush, but she is completely unaware"
"Where did you get that? From a 90s movie?
Spencer's laugh was one of your favorite sounds and today that was precisely not helping your situation. You felt intoxicated by how handsome he looked, like you'd discovered a side to him that no one else had, and the thought of kissing him made you tremble a little with anticipation.
âDo you want to share a beer?â he murmured, carefully opening the can and offering it to you first. You knew your partner wasn't the most enthusiastic about doing anything that involved germs, so it made you feel good that he took the lead. You took a big gulp of the drink to gather something of value and when it was his turn to drink he kept looking at you intently, you would even say that he seemed entranced.
You had made sure you were in a strategic position, with enough light for the unsub to see you and quite lonely, except for the patrol cars and the van that had been positioned at a safe distance.
âHow does voyeurism develop?â you asked quietly, with genuine interest, as you shifted a bit to get closer to him.
âVoyeurism usually begins in adolescence and since during that age it is usually seen with greater tolerance, there are people who continue with these behaviors until adulthood. When voyeurism is pathological, they spend considerable time looking for opportunities to watch, often at the expense of not fulfilling important responsibilities in their lives, and people reach orgasm by masturbating during or after watching. Although if you think about it a bit, everyone is a bit of a voyeur."
"Why you said so?"
âMany men and women enjoy viewing pornography, which can be classified as voyeuristic behavior. It's not a worrying thing, but it's interesting to think about itâ he explained, with those expressions on his face that he had every time he shared knowledge with you. He liked that about you, that you were always willing to listen to his data and statistics even at the most inopportune moments.
"I'm still a little scared that Oliver is trying to do something to us."
âI have my gun. If he tries to do something to you, I'll use it" you knew that killing the unsub was always the last option Reid considered, so you widened your eyes a little to show your surprise "All lives are worth, but when that life has already taken so many and it puts you at risk, I would not doubt it. You have nothing to worry aboutâ he assured you and your heart warmed a little at feeling so protected.
"Do you know if Oliver attacks at a specific time?"
"No, he doesnât. Just as we can be here for ten minutes, we can also be here all night."
You exhaled loudly, before taking another gulp of beer.
âDrink some, boy. I feel kind of selfish around here."
"I am nervous"
"And why do you think I'm drinking?" you exclaimed wryly, still holding out the can to him, and when he finally agreed he drank a little more than you expected âHave you everâŚâ you started to say, but suddenly remembered that literally the whole team was listening to you. If the answer was embarrassing, you didn't want to hear Morgan and Emily taunting you all week, so you covered your microphone for a moment and spoke again, but so quietly that only he could hear you. "I suppose you kissed someone, did you?"
"Yes," he said quickly and you sighed with relief. It comforted you a little to know that it wasn't his first kiss, because you didn't want him to have such a bad memory âDo I look so inexperienced?"
"No, that's not what I meant" you smiled "You're handsome, I know you've probably kissed a couple of girls"
"You don't need to tell lies, you know I'll kiss you anyway"
"But it's not a lie. I really think you're handsome" you confessed, gathering all the courage in you, while you smiled at him in the most serene way possible "And if we weren't literally waiting for a murderer, you know I'd be happy to do this with you"
"Smooch me?"
"Having this bad date attempt, Reid," you hissed, flushing red, as you slammed your palm into his forehead with just a little bit of force. Spencer seemed quite pleased that he made you nervous, rather than the other way around, so he grinned, âThough I think we should have brought food. I'm starving,â you pouted, swinging your dangling legs back and forth.
"That's not a picnic, Y/N"
You hated for a second that everyone was so intent on the conversation. A part of you wanted a moment alone with the brunette, even if it was in the midst of such a strange situation.
You began to talk pleasantly about things completely unrelated to the case for a couple of minutes, staying where you were, until Hotch's interruption made you jump a bit in place.
"Garcia intercepted an approaching trailer, get readyâ your heart immediately sped up and you noticed him tense beside you, too, probably with the same thought flooding his head.
"Okay, come closer," you exclaimed, trying not to panic, as you spread your legs a little to allow the man to step into the space between. He wasted no time and just as you wrapped your hands around his shoulders you heard the sound of another car pulling up.
"Is that our unsub?"
"It is"
You were about to turn your head to peek when Reid grabbed your cheek and stopped you.
"He's smart. If you look at him, he'll realize itâ he reminded you with a serious voice. You were so worried about everything that you were forgetting about your training âOkay, so I⌠Is it okay if I put my hands here?â he asked with a different tone, nervously placing both hands on your waist. You had always admired the size and anatomy of those hands, but until now you had not had the pleasure of feeling them on your body in this way.
âTonight everything you do is fine. I promise"
"It would be a good time to start, he'll see you" Emily reminded you and you could only sigh shakily.
You two were adults, why were you so scared about kissing?
"Close your eyes" Spencer whispered to you, masking his nerves better than you "I'll kiss you, just close them," he asked you and you did.
You felt his body lean against you a little until his chest almost touched yours and then his lips shakily pressed against yours. You would always remember your first kiss, which in essence was such a brief caress that you didn't even know if it could be counted as one, the one where he wordlessly asked your permission to explore your mouth. Still with your eyes closed, you pulled him by the neck towards you and started a new kiss, a little more confident and deep this time, allowing you to savor the beer mixed with strawberries and that strange flavor that each person has.
âWeâŚâ you started to say, once you separated âyou have to do it slowly, what he wants is a showâ you exclaimed. Spencer felt unable to say any words and your hands caressing him so deliciously wasn't helping at all âSlow,â you repeated.
You arched your back a little to get even closer and when you finally looked up you met his caramel eyes. You needed a moment to recover and you unconsciously licked your lips, as if you needed to pick up and savor his presence in your mouth again, something that didnât go unnoticed by his attentive look at your movements.Â
It didn't take long for you to give up, as beginning the third kiss you felt that you no longer had any control over your body, your heart, or your mind. And while it was true that neither of you were experts on the subject, you guys managed pretty well as the seconds ticked by. Spencer gasped as he simultaneously felt you pull the hair from his neck and caress his lips with the tip of your tongue, while you were taken by surprise when his hands left your waist and lowered to the height of your hip, where his thumbs gripped firmly on the clip of your shorts.
There was a kiss, then another and another; they became too many to count. You didn't want to touch him anywhere and at the same time you wanted to touch him completely, in the grip of the fantasy that this was real and not just a performance. And even if you were aware that it was all fake, that would probably only have encouraged you to enjoy something to the fullest that you knew would never come back. Amid everything you didnât know which of the two situations would be worse.
The sound of your lips colliding became so obscene that you were embarrassed, but you had no plan to stop. Your hands slid gently down the length of his neck until you reached his chest and cupped the soft cotton of his garment in your fists to make sure he didn't move away from you. The heat of the moment just went up and up, but a voice on the intercom brought you back with a jolt.
âHe started the trailer. He's going to go"
Spencer closed his eyes in frustration, and you sighed. From the position he was in it wasnât possible to get around him without being seen, so keeping all his attention was on you and him.
Maybe you weren't doing it right? You wondered what the hell this man wanted to see if you were practically eating each other, but suddenly you remembered that his motivation was even more sexual than a couple of wet kisses. Maybe he was getting bored because he needed to see that you were about to⌠well, do it.
"Take off my shirt," you said immediately, still too close to his swollen lips and looking right into eyes that seemed to be pitch black.
"Take... what?"
"Take off my shirt" you repeated, with a tone that made the man shudder completely. With the hands that were still holding his shirt you pulled him to you and he held his breath âAnd kiss me better. Like you really want me"
But Spencer didn't need to pretend that he wanted you.Â
He made you completely dizzy when he began to kiss you so hungrily and you managed to keep enough composure when you felt one of his warm hands travel under your blouse, limiting yourself to letting out sighs that were drowned against his lips. But what finally caused you to let out an indiscreet and unwelcome moan was when he pulled you by the hip until you were on the edge of the tailgate and you could feel the growing bulge in his pants pressing against you. Spencer had almost managed to suppress his, but in the end, you having your own situation down there didn't help one bit.Â
His trembling fingers fussed with the buttons on your shirt until it ended up somewhere on the floor at incredible speed, leaving you half-naked before him and the collection of FBI agents standing around. You might have been embarrassed if your brain could connect two coherent thoughts, but you'd lost that from the moment Dr. Reid first dared to kiss you.
You carefully guided his hands to the beginning of the curve of your breasts and now you both sighed in unison, feeling goosebumps on every inch of your skin. You pushed yourself forward just for the satisfaction of hearing that guttural sound again and your prayers were immediately answered, for it was enough for him to feel the slightest friction and he would go crazy. It was inappropriate to need him like that, but you couldn't help it.
Holding your lower back, he leaned over you and at the same time pulled you towards him until your breasts collided with his chest. In that position, your neck was exposed and your partnerâs hot lips didn't hesitate to go down there, while you sighed agitated just at the height of his ear. Spencer asked you, between each kiss, to look in the direction of the trailer to see if he was still there and as you could you answered yes, which was victory enough for both of you.
As he could, he maneuvered to lay you down carefully on the cold metal of the truck without stopping kissing your neck, and by inertia you wrapped both legs over his hip. When you were hidden by the panels of the pickup he finally looked at you.
"I hope it's enough to get his attention," he said, sounding as agitated as expected, and although the circumstances meant that you two would be taking a break you flatly refused, pulling him back to kiss him.
That kiss did take Spencer by surprise and it was perhaps the sincerest of the night. It wasnât as passionate as the previous ones, but rather it was loaded with softness and you would even say that a hint of supplication. You were begging for him not to stop, for the night to get stuck in an infinite loop where the two of you could kiss for eternity. And suddenly you felt how he, who had been so tense the whole time, completely relaxed against you, as if he understood exactly what you wanted to say. His hands came to rest on the sides of your head to be able to kiss you more comfortably and you dared to take him by the waist with the same care that you were kissing him, feeling even above the cloth the softness of his skin.Â
And then he broke up with you. You feared you had done something wrong due to the suddenness of the movement and your frightened eyes searched his gaze for a sign of the reason, without finding anything. He just looked at you with something you couldn't describe, but that made you feel butterflies fluttering all over your stomach... and he stayed like that for a few seconds: just looking at you, as if he wanted to memorize all your features.
You opened your mouth to say something, but your words were drowned in a new kiss, totally different from the previous ones. Spencer was taking time with him, trapping your lower lip between his and sucking on it gently, pressing himself a little more against your body, sighing heavily into your mouth.
Your hand was already running up his side to make its way to his cheek just as screams filled the silence and you hugged him reflexively. The screams had come from Morgan, who had already moved across the park to take down the unsub and was now wrestling with him to get the knife out of his hand. Spencer hesitated for a moment if he should come over to help, but he preferred to hold you better against his body to protect you and wait for Emily to place the handcuffs on the man under her partner's knee.
From a distance you saw that he only brought with him, in addition to the knife, his camera, and a small backpack with some other murderous instruments that they managed to confiscate without any problem.
"All clear, we've got him," Hotch spoke over the radio. As you exhaled in relief too many emotions washed over you, combined with the adrenaline coursing through your body and the arousal still flowing into your crotch.
"Are you okay?" Reid's gentle voice called to you, as he pulled away to check with his eyes that everything was in order. His hair was messy and his lips were so swollen that it was almost painful to look at the image without launching yourself to kiss him again "My God, your shirt..." he said, completely embarrassed, as he bent down to pick up the garment. You looked him up and down and blushed when you noticed how tight his pants were, feeling your stomach turn a little. When he got up, he took the opportunity to look at your chest covered only by the black lace bra and a big gulp of saliva went down his throat.
You thanked him quietly and put your shirt back on, feeling the sneaky glances Spencer was giving you, just before Hotch walked up to you.
"How are you?"
"Very good, excellent" you stammered.
You could perfectly feel your swollen lips, the light sheen of sweat on your face, the heat flowing from all the places Reid's fingers had been, and the abundant moisture between your crossed legs.
After Hotch congratulated you on your performance, the two of you walked as best you could toward the rest of the agents, who were already placing Oliver on patrol. Another group was analyzing the trailer and they managed to pull out enough evidence about the murders that would be very useful in prosecuting the man.
"All good?" Emily asked in your direction, once things had settled down and the rest of the team had gathered in a circle by the van. You and Spencer just nodded at the question.
âI honestly think I'm going to need therapy after what I heard,â Dave murmured, so serious that you couldn't help but burst out laughing.
"Don't you even dare make fun of this"
âNo, we won't. I'm just saying you guys seemed to be enjoying it there."
"That's supposed to be the plan, right?" Spencer said nervously, finally daring to look at you and looking away almost immediately as he smoothed his hair back.
Once your boss said you could retire you escaped in a patrol car as fast as you could, wanting to get home so you could take a cold shower and soothe what wasnât satisfied by the man. You could hardly sleep that night, still haunted by the ghost of the kisses you received from your gorgeous coworker, and the next morning you hoped that double coffee would do the trick. But apparently you weren't the only one who thought so, because at the same time that you arrived Spencer Reid crossed your path.
"Hey," he said, in that high-pitched voice that came out when someone caught him off guard, "How are you?"Â
"Fine, and you?"
"Fine too"
You knew that the two of you wanted to talk about what happened, but it only took one of you to have the courage to speak first. At the same time your phones rang indicating a message and you mistakenly assumed that it was JJ contacting you to announce a case. What was your surprise when you opened the file and found a collection of photos from the night before. You knew from Spencer's face that he had received the same thing.
"Garcia did you⌠did she send you the same evidence?"
"That's right," he said nervously. You had to admit that if Oliver had one quality it was that of a photographer: you were sensual and perfectly captured the desire that had existed between you. Well, the one you had pretended to feel⌠right?
Spencer held his breath as he came to a picture of you topless in which his hand was practically on your breast, immediately remembering how that had felt. He just hoped his memories didn't affect him too much or it would be embarrassing enough to walk into the boardroom with a boner.
"They're good," you said to the air and he suppressed a laugh "But I can delete them if that makes you feel uncomfortable"
âNo, no, I⌠I think I want to keep them too. After all, the bureau will have them in the files as evidence of the case, I prefer to have access tooâ
"I just hope she doesn't send them to anyone else, I wouldn't want to see my bra photos going around."
âI'll tell Garcia, don't worry,â Spencer murmured, rushing to type something on his phone.
While you waited for him to type you took another look, feeling your whole body heating up again at the memories. A part of you was grateful to have such material in your custody.
"I never thought of being the protagonist of an erotic photo session and here we are," you said ironically.
âSpeaking of whichâŚâ Spencer started to say, âNot the erotic sessions by any means, don't think I'm planning on inviting you to one or that, because it would be super weird and inappropriate, but I was thinking if⌠huhâŚâ
âSell them online? I thought so too, but it depends on how much profit there is. Garcia can help us find the highest bidder and not get charged for tampering with evidence."
"What? No!" he said, completely shocked, and you laughed because you got the reaction you expected with your joke "Why would we do that?"
âJust kidding, Reid. Those photos are something I prefer to keep to myself" you clarified and your smile made him feel shy "Seriously, sorry for interrupting you. What did you want to tell me?"
"What huh, yes, right. It's just that this morning I was thinking about what you said yesterday, about how under normal circumstances you would have liked to have a bad date with me, right? and it just kept spinning in my head, so I was asking if you wanted to go for a drink sometime. Not like a date, of course, I'm not saying it is if you don't want to. I can just be like⌠well, go get a drink. As friends"
Yesterday Spencer had practically eaten your mouth and now he was nervous about asking you out. So adorable.
âYou're not doing this just as compensation, are you? because you know that it is not necessaryâŚâ
âI do it because I want to. And I want to believe that⌠that I didn't misunderstand what happened yesterday."
You no longer even cared that it was unethical to date team members, or that if things went wrong, you would probably go into the worst of depressions. What mattered to you was that Spencer was interested in you, even if he had implied it, and that he was asking you out alone with him. Just the two of you, with fun and alcohol involved, without gossipy colleagues or mortal danger.
"Then I'd love to, Reid."
âWow, excellent thenâ he smiled, feeling lucky that you agreed âI know a great bar near here, the atmosphere is generally calm, I like it because they don't play loud music. What day is right for you?"
âI'm available any day you wantâ you responded genuinely, grinning from ear to ear just being around him. That was the effect Reid had on you.
It was stupid to try to deny that you were still attracted to him, especially since now you had a taste of what he could do with you. You wanted to kiss him again, of course, but you were also anxious to earn that completely adoring look you'd received the night before.
âToday?â
"Yeah, why wait?" you responded, more excited than you wanted.
âHey, I didn't ask you, but I wanted to know if I didn't go overboard with you last night. I mean⌠did something bother you?â
It was a smart move, you could see it clearly. It was obvious that Spencer cared about you, but you also picked up on his intentions to find out if you were interested in him too. Well, that's how it was from your perspective, because that probably would have been your motivation being in his place.
Even if it wasn't the case, you weren't going to miss the opportunity to take a little advantage of the situation.
"The kisses on the neck were something he definitely didn't expect, but they weren't unpleasant at all," you assured him, feeling your cheeks heat up again. "Did it feel good to you?"
"It did"
"So everything's perfect," you murmured, shrugging off the matter. But you both knew you couldn't see each other in the office and acted as if nothing had happened.
Something had happened. Those kisses had only fueled the tension that had always existed between you but that you wanted to ignore.
"Do you want to go after work, then?"
âSounds good to meâ
Spencer gave you one last smile and then went to prepare his usual cup of sugar with a dash of coffee. All day you were thinking about him and more than once he caught you looking at him, but you didn't even care.
So, at nightfall, with a few drinks on you and more courage in your body, you finally confessed that kissing was something you had wanted to do for a long time. You almost didn't believe it at first, coming from him, but when you finally accepted it, it wasn't hard at all to rush at him and kiss him feverishly. And this time there did not impede for you to give free rein to your desires, which led you to the soft mattress in your friend's house and kept you awake until a few hours before dawn.
đđĄđ đđđ° đ¨đ đđĄđ˛đŹđ˘đđŹ
Summary: In the volatile nature of tornado hunting, you crossed paths with Scott on more than one occasionâeach time resulting in a piece of yourself being left behind with the man larger than the storms you chased. [Scott x Fem!Reader; Twisters] [wc: 15.7k]
Warnings: 18+ MDNI, smut, pinv, oral (f receiving), angsty-romance, Scott is⌠a complicated asshole who reader can totally fix⌠right? Right!?
Quick Links: Masterlist
You werenât sure where it ended or began, but you could feel it coming in your bones. Not the whirring of a drone or the rumbles of thunderâthe fast, blistering speed of tires rolling toward the funnel that made your heart beat twice as fast as it did before.
It was tornado season after all⌠it never surprised you.
The skies of Oklahoma rose into a gloomy beige on a Friday afternoon. Heat lingered in the air, heavy and unyielding. It was dense outside of the small gas station that sat alongside the fork in the road.
Everyone could smell it: the anticipation of a storm. They broke earlier every year and this season appeared to be no different at first glance. The radios were filled with the familiar constant chatter, the computer screens you shared with Dexter in the lot were running the same radarâs the morning predicted.
Not everyday was as exciting as the next, however.
âShit,â Dexter mumbled, running a hand over his eyes in frustration as the storms werenât breaking that evening. His glasses perched on his fingers before he brought his hand back down to his computer.
It was just rain. In an era of record tornados, tonight would be quiet sans the few sparks of lightning and the thunder that followed.
âNothinââ he flicked the laptop screen closed before him, knocking you on the shoulder as your own screen took all your attention.
Your eyes were entranced by the Doppler's movements. The back and forth of the projections coming and going in shades of green and yellow but no red. No purples or the darkest blues to send the lot of you running toward danger.
Dexter bumped you again with a focused effort.
âWhat?â You mumbled, clicking the refresh button on the radarâs program. Nothing changed.
âI think weâre done for the day.â
âItâs like six-thirty, Dexâ you shrugged, turning to face him with a squint as the half-set sun was in your line of vision. âSomethinâ might pop up.â
âOmega says not,â he put a finger on his closed computer. âIt dissipates before it can get out of bed.â
âYeah,â you sighed as he did before. âShit.â
Breathing in deeply, you could still smell it. Those storms were on the horizon and just waiting for the perfect moment to grow but you all have waited around these parts of Oklahoma begging for something that was not going to appear a hundred times.
Today was just one of those days.
You shut your own computer with the thud. Rolling your shoulders, Dexter clapped a hand on your back and chuckled at the prospect of another day without a tornado.
âTomorrowâs chances are just as good,â he reassured.
âI know,â you nodded. The buzzing of Lilyâs drone overhead swished by slowly as it came to land.
âWhy donât you go tell âem and Iâll clean up before we move out, hm? Get dinner and relax.â
Dexter didnât allow the chance for you to argue back and made for the computers immediately. You groaned, standing up from the milk crate Boone scoured from the side of the road for âportable seating.â They were a bitch to your back and after sitting and watching the screen for what felt like hours, your body was screaming for help.
You stretched your arms high above your shoulders to rest them interlocked on your head and closed your eyes.
Maybe it was a sign. No storms, good sleep, and a hot meal from a wayside diner in the middle of bum-fuck nowhere. It was comfort, it was home and it was a relief for an instant that the skies were tame. No one would die from nature tonight in the vicinity of your chasingâan adjustment from the last month.
So you envisioned in your closed eyes the peace the evening would bring. How the sheets of the motelâs bed would feel against your legs; the sound of air conditioning fanning and sending you into a deep slumber.
The imagination of an evening molded into scenes under your eyelids.
Like the thunder everyone wished to hear, you could practically feel the rumblings of his fingertips as you imagined them on your skin. A lingering hope of days gone by without seeing him and his team of assholes started to stir in your mind every time it had a second to not think of the weather.
You hated the way it made you feel.
Like a goddamn school girl who couldnât control a crush but it was more than that. It wasnât a fatal fantasy youâd imagined every time your paths crossed but one cemented in your memory to hold you off until the next time he caught you in the same place.
And you saw him in your idea of a decent night.
In the distance, Dani and Lily called your name from outside of the RV. You cracked an eye open to see the two of them waving, pointing toward the diner attached to the station.
Your arms fell, turning to Dexter who passed it off.
âGo,â he shook his head, âIâll join you when Iâm done.â
Youâd be lying if the sound of food didnât sound wonderful that very second. The day had been nothing but driving and sitting. Every bit of food was junk besides the apple Boone threw your way at noon. He had been the first one to run into the diner an hour before with Tyler hot on his tail.
They were gluttons for greasy homemade meals.
âCome on!â Dani yelled as she held open the door and you broke off from Dexter to join the two for dinner.
The diner was like any other hole in the wall establishment in middle America. Sparse hangings on the wall, chairs and booths made from cheap leather that had burns and slashes through them, and menus that havenât been updated for twenty years.
They were the best places. They were what made the small towns in between the big ones staples. No one could pinpoint this town on a map but the second the tea is sipped and the spuds are downed, itâs something you couldnât forget.
âWeâre gonna shack up in Perry tonight,â Dani spoke with her mouth half full. ââBout a half hour from here.â
âTyler alright with that?â Lily asked, glancing out the diner window. âI thought he wanted to stay ahead of them?â
Them.
You sipped on your iced tea casually.
âWe will be heading in that direction anyway.â
âAinât there a lake down in Perry?â Lily inquired, racking her mind in hopes she could remember. Dani nodded and picked up her own glass.
âMhm,â she hummed. âAnd I do plan on jumpinâ in it before we leave tomorrow.â
Lily smiled as she turned her attention to you. She wasnât oblivious to your absence from the conversation. You were quiet and reserved. Maybe it was that time of the month or you had a bad dayâbut it was strange and she furrowed her brows, kicking at your foot with hers from under the table.
âDonât got anything to say?â She asked, causing Dani to look over the glass at you.
âNo,â you dismissed. âJust tired, thatâs all.â
âIâve got Advil if you need it,â Lily went to dig in her bag but you stopped her.
âNo, no,â you shook your head. âReally. Just feels like a long day is all. Finding nothin' is frustrating and this heat..."
âI get you,â Dani scoffed and put her cup down. âThis heat is awful. I think Booneâs music is starting to get to me.â
You laughed knowingly. âItâs better than listening to him scream into the camera for twenty minutes."
The two snickered at the thought. Anything was better than the sound of his screeching. You pushed around the remnants of your meal around your plate when the waitress came back to fill up the glasses, leaving the check. A chorus of 'thank you's' were followed by the bell ringing above the diner's rickety door.
"Oh Lord," Lily muttered and went back to looking out the window. She crossed her arms like a pouting child. Out the window, Boone was yelling inaudible jests at the white shirts making their way into the establishment.
"What?" You asked her, turning over in your seat to see the crew of Storm Par filing in one by one.
In their uniforms of slacks and white shirts, they gave their most polite smiles to the staff that ate out of the palms of their hands. Dani let out a groan of frustration. Rich men, educated men. Men.
"Just the fraternity, Doc," Dani replied as though your eyes couldn't see that. You shot her a judgmental scowl before glancing at the group again.
"I thought I told you not to call me that."
It was the PhD in physics that earned you the affectionate, but infuriating title.
"Eh," Dani popped a piece of ice between her teeth. "You ain't like them though. They're all assholes and you're only an asshole when we can't get the signal to work and you wanna watch Love Island."
You laughed, chucking your napkin across the table which she dodged gracefully.
"Don't act like you're not obsessed with it too," Dani narrowed her eyes in faux offense.
The check at the end of the table blew in the wind generated by a few of Storm Par's team walking past. None of them spared a glance in the direction of the three of you. Out of spite or hatred, you wouldn't know but it was always the same way with most of them. It wasn't unwarranted, however. Your squad from Arkansas were known to give them as much grief as they gave you all.
You reached out to slap the check back down on the table. A glance up toward the retreating Storm Par members told you that their leaders hadn't joined the bunch at the table. You hadn't seen him enter the diner when you looked before.
But you knew the second the bell rang above the door again that it was him and likely Javi beside him. You could feel it in the air just as you did the storms. Everything shifted. The pace of your heart, the rigidness of your back, and you had done all you could in your power to keep it as quiet as possible.
You painted yourself a fake in front of the friends you adored because of Scott. He didn't ask you to, yet there was nothing more solid than agreeing to never speak of what you'd do for a second alone with him.
And you weren't sure what they'd say if they knew you were sleeping with the enemy.
With the check in your hands, you grabbed your bag from the seat and dismissed Lily and Dani's movements to split the check.
"I've got this one," you assured them. "My treat."
Lily protested and continued to shuffle through her bag. "At least lemme get the tip. How much?" Her wallet was filled with receipts and loose change.
"No," you shook your head. "Go on to the truck and I'll pay and we can head out."
Dani crunched the ice loudly. "You sure?"
"Positive," you nodded, giving them both a smile that could have read tense. You didn't mean it to be but it did. "Go on," you tipped your head. âDex didnât eat so Iâll order and run out when itâs ready.â
Dani eyed you as Lily put away her wallet. "I don't want to leave you alone with them in here," she knocked her head in the direction of Scott and Javi who settled along the lunch counter beside the register.
Dani watched them carefully whenever it was only the three of you. She trusted the men on your team like brothers but the others, Storm Par or any of the other groups that followed in the same direction, she held at a distance. Not only had they been somewhat competitors in the field, they were jerks and Dani could not help but be repulsed by it.
Scott looked in the direction of the small booth you all sat in, making contact with Dani's harsh stare. His face was blankâas Dani had come to realize was its factory setting. He was stoic, a wooden board of a man who was a head taller than his companion even as they sat. Dani always thought he looked miserable.
In her eyes, he was generically handsome with dimples on the sides of his cheeks. She saw other storm chasers give him eyes but he never entertained it. He was boring, a dud.
Not one person could make that man crack a smile or have an ounce of joy weep from himâbut she supposed it was perfect for the work they conducted.
"I can handle myself, Daniâbesides, there are other people in here."
She shook her head, souring her face. "You know I don't like 'em."
"Neither do I," you laughed. Liar. "I got this. Itâs okay."
Dani trusted your word and exited the diner with Lily while you made your way to the register.
Scott had taken his baseball cap off his head, sliding it into the back pocket of his pants and pushing his sunglasses into his hair. Javi made niceties with the same waitress that had assisted you upon your approach. You saddled up to lean on the counter in the empty space between Scott and the register that broke apart the counter from the other patrons. It wasn't crowded as a restaurant in the middle of a city would be. It was filed with locals that made it feel welcoming.
"I'll be with you in one second, ma'am," the woman who served, in a name-tag labeled 'Kathy', called over to you as she jotted down Javi's order.
You took the bag from your shoulder to place it on the counter in front of you. The base of it brushed Scott's shoulder, nudging him purposefully.
"Sorry," you said quietly as Javi finished up beside him. Scott looked over at youâhis stormy blues baring into you and sending you into a spiral of blind faith.
âNot out wrangling tornados tonight?â He questioned in a condescending tone. His brow quirked in a challenge: play along. You could never be civil in public.
âMaybe if you were good at reading radar youâd know that already.â
He scoffed. âWhââ
âAnd for you sir?â Kathy, the waitress, cut him off with a tap of her pen. Javi stifled a laugh as Scott faced her with a half-baked expression of annoyance. You turned to thumbing through your bag for your wallet.
âAh,â Scott stuttered as he looked over the menu. âA coffeeââ
âCream or Sugar?â Kathy drawled. She must have been in her sixties but she was giving Scott the best impression of a flirt at the moment.
âBlack, please.â
âOf course, honey.â
Javi turned his head away from Scott to chuckle like a little boy. You smiled to yourself as the contents of your bag were suddenly so very interesting.
âAnd a⌠turkey sandwich with fries.â
Kathy gave Scott a cheeky, wide smile with painted red lips. The thinning drugstore paint was wearing thin beyond the lining and her hay bale, yellow as corn hair was doing nothing for her.
âThatâll be right up for you boys, okay?â She gave them a wink and tore the order from her pad. âDonât forget to order somethinâ sweet before you goâon the house.â
Kathy walked away with a sway of her hips which only worsened Javiâs laughter. The laughs spilled from his mouth without remorse as his friend tried to not turn an ugly shade of red.
âHoly,â Javi dragged out the syllables in exasperation. âYou got yourself a cougar, Scott!â
You slipped your wallet to the side of your bag and looked upright waiting for her return.
âI didnât know Mr. Storm Par had it in him,â you said, which drove Javi even deeper in laughter. Scott sighed heavily, shaking his head in disbelief. âSheâll give a napkin with a lipstick kiss⌠just watch.â
âOoh man,â Javi crooned. âI ainât missinâ that!â He got up from his stool.
âSee you out there,â Javi said your name kindlyâa rarity in these parts. He surely didnât know about you and Scott but he treated you decently all the same.
He rushed off to the small hallway labeled âbathroomâ. Small mercies for a second alone.
âDid you have to say that?â Scott commented the moment Javi was out of an earshot. He turned back to look at you so you turned to look at him with your hip digging into the counter. His legs spread wide as if to accommodate you.
âIt was too good not to,â you admitted with a grin. âThe old ladies love you.â
âYeah,â he mumbled, gazing at your face as his eyes darted to take you in. They trailed from your eyes to lips to chin to chest to⌠everywhere.
âItâs been a minute.â
âTwo weeks,â you agreed.
âYou been counting?â
âNo,â you said quickly. âI justââ
âI was joking,â he clarified with a sly, cunning smirk.
âHa,â you panned. âYou should think about going into another career after this. I hear theyâre looking for comedians.â
âMaybe I will,â he suggested. âI can mention the skeleton that tried to get with me in a diner. Though,â he thought on it, âher lipstick might find me in nightmares so probably not.â
You laughed and he smiledâalso a rarity in these parts.
âWhere are you off to?â He asked.
âPerry for the night. Headinâ in that direction afterwards.â
Scott hummed, tapping one of his hands on the counter as the other rested on his knee. Your eyes moved down his body in the same way he did yours.
âYou?â You asked him.
âI think weâll be makinâ our way there too.â
âHm,â you thrummed. Kathy caught your vision as she gathered Javiâs glass and Scottâs mug in her hands. âThen I should be expecting you?â
Scott nodded his head. âMotel?â
âRight off the highway. Easy on and off.â
Scott made a noise of agreement. Kathy placed their beverages in front of them with a sweet smile. Scott glanced at the mug but returned his attention to you which she frowned atâyou found it amusing. There couldnât have been many attractive men waltzing through the diner on a weekly basis. Scott was a treat.
âAnything I can get you, hun?â
Scott shook his head. Kathy held out her hand for you to hand over the check. She wasnât as wordy with you.
You glanced over his shoulder to the table of his crew in the back who were minding their own business. Javi had to return and put the window, your team of misfits were packing up the vehicles.
You took a chance and lifted a hand to his shirtâs collar. Taking the fabric between your fingertips, you putzed as he looked at you with a gleam in his eyes that made your stomach do summersaults.
Itâs the kind of look that made your heart sink when he was so rude on the road.
âText me when you get there, okay?â You asked him. You adjusted his collar before dropping your hand at the sight of Javi leaving the restroom.
Scott caught your eyes change and turned back around in his seat.
Kathy laid the receipt for you to sign on the counter with a bang.
âSign, please.â
You were quick to sign and exit the space before Javi could even sit down, forgetting Dexter's order. Kathy took the receipt and while stapling it to the order, she tipped her head in the direction of you.
âSheâs pretty,â was all Kathy said and left as Javi returned.
âDid she give you her number?â Javi prompted Scott who passed a confused face to his friend.
âWhat?â
âThe waitress,â Javi chuckled. âYou get âer number or what?â
Scott closed his eyes and swallowed the nerves that built rapidly. He thought Javi was talking about you. He may have been an ace at MIT and a dependable guy on the battlefield, but Scott nearly jumped out of the diner at the thought of Javi or anyone else finding out about his escapades with you.
It was a good secret. A great one, if he let himself think about it too long. But heâd be damned to throw everything away for the sake of a lay in the middle of Oklahoma.
And if he told himself that enough, heâd fathomed he would start believing it.
The motel was what you had dreamed about.
Soft sheets, working air conditioning, and a lovely continental breakfast in the mornings with boxes of cereal and packaged muffins. It wasnât a five-star resort but they did the job. It was perfectly imperfect for what you were used to on the daily.
It was so much better than the floor of the RV and so unusual for the types of places Dani and Lily often chose.
When you arrived at the motel, Scott was receiving a napkin with a kiss and a number on it that went straight in the trash. Javi kept rolling with laughter and for the time being, it was something he would not live down.
But both of your minds were preoccupied with what would hold true as the sun finally set on that day.
Just like the storms, you werenât sure where this ended or it began. You had established a routine without realizing it was happening and this game of chances was slowly evolving into a feeling difficult to hold on to.
Maybe it was everything in between the nights that made it more difficult than it needed to be.
You ached for them nonetheless.
The jolt of anticipation hit you about an hour after arriving. Showered and clean, you sat around while the news played lifelessly in the background waiting for your phone to ding but it never did. It sat there mocking you every minute that passed.
Seconds turned into minutes that turned into hours that turned into two.
You half thought about going to bed before a knock sounded at your door. Neglecting to view the visitor through the peephole, you were taken aback by the entrance.
Scott made quick work of pushing you backwards and shutting the door closed with a thud. A backpack landed in the space between the door and chair. His hands were on you immediately, immodestly cupping your face and the back of your head with a force as he kissed youâhard.
You wrapped your arms around his forearms in support of your uneasy feet. A thrill ran down your spine at the feel of his hands on you.
âIâm sorry,â he mumbled between frantic kisses that took your breath away. âThey,â kiss, âwouldnât,â kiss, âstop fucking talking.â
You ran your hands down his forearms gently. âItâs okay,â you reassured him. Ignoring your doubts would manifest itself another day.
Scott nodded, his nose knocking yours before leaning back in and kissing you slowly. His mouth captured your lips softly, gently as if there was no worry of time at all. His hands trailed themselves along the sides of your neck, to your shoulders, letting yours fall from his arms in the process.
You tilted your head upwards at an angle to open up to him. His mouth moved unhurried as the sound of your heart rushed to your ears.
He broke the kiss at the feel of your hands inching toward the buckle of his jeans.
âWoah,â he chuckled lowly but didnât pull away and didnât tell you no. âI donât think my old lady would appreciate you havinâ your hands all over me.â
He let you lift the tails of his dress shirt out of his pants. At a quick pace you undid the buttons.
âShe was tellinâ me all about this great peach pie,â Scott kept on and on as he peppered kisses on your face. âAnd then,â he whispered and shrugged off his shirt. âThen she left me this nice farewell note with a kiss on it.â
Your hands stilled on his abdomen. Head pulling away rapidly with glittering amusement in your eyes, you scoffed.
âNo shit⌠really?â
âOh yes, really,â Scott confirmed. He stepped away from you and stripped himself of the undershirt he had on. He moved over to the bed to work on his shoes.
âCanât go to that diner again I gather.â
Scott smiled which made his dimples stand out. He looked tired but present, and that was all you could ask for at that moment.
âNot unless I want to be scorned for never callinâ her back.â
âEh,â you picked up the remote on the bedside table and turned up the sound. âGive it ten years.â
Scott looked over his shoulder at you as a boot dropped on the floor.
âThatâs brutal.â
âWell,â you said, dropping onto the duvet. âWhat can I say?â
You crawled over to him and got on your knees behind him. Scott leaned his head backwards against your chest as you wrapped your arms around him. You could smell the earth in his hair. The darkness of it couldnât shield the way a day's work remained.
Underneath your fingertips his shoulders eased up. He relaxed in your touch.
âI was counting,â you admitted. The days between.
âYeah,â he breathed out. âMe too.â
You kept one hand wrapped around his shoulders but moved the other to turn his face to the side. You planted a light kiss on his cheek, resting your forehead on the spot after. You savored the small, delicate moments that were few and far on the road.
Scott patted your arm when the quiet became too much.
âLay down,â he instructed.
You untangled yourself from him and fell backwards on the bed. Splayed on the mattress with your knees bent, he slipped his socks off and turned around with one leg perched on the bed and the other on the floor. Scottâs hand traced the lines on your bent knees formed by the lighting of the room. He watched you adjust your body for comfort in his observance.
Heâd be a fool to say you werenât igniting a fire in him.
There were nights where heâd find you angry at him, the fuck that followed heated and heâd mark you with bruising kisses to remind you of it. There were some hurried and franticâusually following a close encounter by either of you but the ones where it was slow⌠they were rare.
And looked down at you with adoration he couldnât express. His eyes were telling yet he never said words that reaffirmed he cared for you more than he looked forward to your next meeting or that he thought about youâin the shower or in passing, Scott never clarified.
Scott pushed open your legs to accommodate him. He took in the oversized tourist tee that helped cover the pair of sleep shorts of his next conquest. Without hesitation, he grabbed at the waistband of the shorts and pulled them down your legs quickly.
He ticked at you at the sight of you bare before him.
âWere you expecting someone?â He chastised jokingly. âThatâs a little presumptuous.â
âMaybe,â you cooed. He grasped you by the back of your knees and pulled you down the bed before getting on his own.
âThereâs always a some guy followinâ us around in these parts. Sometimes Iâll let him in.â
âOh?â His breath was hot on your thigh. A kiss laid as he maneuvered himself to your center and you tossed your head back to stare at the ceiling.
âMhm,â you hummed. You bit your lip to fight a smile when his familiar lips kissed at the crux of your leg and groin.
âHandsome with this cute smile no one ever sees.â
You felt your breath stagger as he moved to the most wanton part of you and licked a line through you. His eyes watched you intently; the slow rise and fall of your chest, the way your hands begged for something to grasp on. His nose bumped your clit as he got comfortable with a rhythm. Scott savored the way his tongue gathered your wetness, pushing against your plush walls.
You were trying so hard to be quiet. The walls of hotels were thinâyou werenât an idiot. It was a miracle that the man you fucked wasnât a talker most of the time.
Scottâs tongue was warm against you. Lapping in a way that made you lose the breath inside. He was slow, soft in his movements that made you want to squirm.
You could feel your heart beating rapidly against your ribcage. Head pressing harshly against the comforter of the bed, your body hooked itself into an arch at his ministrations. A lewd, antagonizing sound of your pleasure being had by a man whose eyes bore deep into the way your body moved at his will sent you spinning.
Scott shifted himself on the bed. His feet propelled him upwards but he never let go, his hands nor mouth. He pushed you upwards on the bed and wrapped an arm around your leg to rest on your lower abdomen.
The change caught the words in your mouth.
Scott, occupied, still watched you unravel like putty. His eyes watched you focus on anything but his face and in an attempt to get your attention, his hand on your stomach moved to fiddle with your shirt that had not made it to the floor.
Your hand was quick to fold over his, squeezing tightly. His fingers flexed back.
âOh,â you keened. In an effort to stay quiet, your other hands fingers pressed against your lips. The fire within you grew hotter.
Moving his hand from yours, he shifted to spread open your lips and gather the wetness on his tongue. Scott titled his head upwards and sucked on your clit that had you spinning. Your free hand went straight to his head and settled in his brown locks.
âF-fuck,â you stuttered as your toes curled and your hips rutted against his face unabashedly.
Scottâs other hand was long missing from your body as the one focused on you was hard at work with your satisfaction. He palmed at himself in his pants the best he could. The angle wasnât working and soon, heâd need a reprieve.
The muscles in your body tensed. They began to shake not from a release, but an anticipation of one growing. The more you moved, the more Scott wanted to let go and slip inside of you.
He slowed his tongue to small, sensual flicks reminiscent of him bringing you back from a high you hadnât yet reached. Pulling back on you, his lips caught with a trail of your slick and his spit. Scott ran his tongue over his lipsâtaking with him the taste of you.
âMove up,â he instructed, voice hoarse.
You sat up on your elbows and moved upwards on the bed as he stood up. He walked back to the chair beside the door where his belongings had ended up when he first burst through the door.
If you were attempting to be sly, your eyes navigated his body on display. Scott fully undid his belt and chucked his phone on the chair beside it. He shuffled out of his pants and briefsâpausing when the screen on his phone lit up with a text.
You couldnât read it from the distance between you but he left it unread, turning back to you as your focus narrowed to his dick freely standing.
âMy eyes are up here,â he rolled his eyes.
âIâm admiring,â you drawled. You ran a hand up your body and bent it behind your head on the pillows. âCanât a girl admire? I meanâŚâ
âShe can,â he nodded in implying you can.
Scott took himself in his hands, pumping as he approached the bed again. He didnât need to ask the ways in which to make both of you happy. He could read the room and the days and knew that what you both needed was something simple.
But sometimes, something simple was enough.
He joined you on the bed, tapping on your leg that blocked his goal.
âCome on,â his words were cut and dry and quiet.
You moved your leg back down as you sat up to meet him. Him, on his knees before you with his length in his hand and you, splayed before him wet and wanting. You reached to replace his hand with yours but he shook his head, knocking his chin at your shirt with a disapproving shake.
The worn Ole Miss letters standing stark amidst the nakedness of the room. Doc.
Huffing, you were quick to lose the shirt.
âBetter?â You asked him. Reaching back toward to replace his hand, he removed his and let you take him.
âPerfect,â he groaned at the feel of your hand.
He was heavy and warm in your palm; watching with an intensity that only beckoned you to go furtherâsliding your hand along him delicately and squeezing just enough at the base for him to emit a grunt of satisfaction. Scottâs hands caressed the sides of your thighs as his mind went blank.
âScott,â you purred. Sitting up on your knees and never letting him go. Your other hand wrapped around his shoulders as you pressed your chest against his. His hands were hot on your hips and ass.
You lazily drew your lips along his jaw to ear.
âI want you to fuck me,â you whispered. His heart was beating so fast. âI want you to fuck me into this mattress and make me think about it for days.â
Scottâs eyes were closed. His breathing unsteady and head pushing into yours. He gripped your body tightly.
âBabyââ the pet name slipped out before he had a chance to take it back. Too personal? He wasnât sure. But he couldnât think straight. With your hand on his dick, all he could think about was how fast he could get inside of you.
âI thought we saidââ
âWeâll be quiet,â you reassured him. âI didnât say hard.â
Oh. You wanted to be fucked softly.
The kind of sex that left a heavy haze in the air. The one that drew everything out of a person and left it there, lingering, as if the pieces of them were nothing more than particles in space.
It was the sex you couldnât turn back from.
You were too far gone.
You had been for quite some time yet never slipped up. You enjoyed what small, unreliable fling you had no matter how it grew inside of you. Scott wasnât a man youâd dream about as a teen thinking of your future. He was a certified asshole with an ego as big as the fucking ocean but it slithered past defenses and ended up knocking at your gate.
But you loved the sinful way it made you feel.
âDo you wanna fuck me?â You cooed. You careened in his touch, pitching upwards as he cupped your ass roughly and relished the feel of your breasts on his chest. Everything about you was so soft.
âYou know I do,â he panted. You stroked him still.
âThen what are you waiting for?â
You positioned your head in front of his, kissing him gently on the lips before lowering back down onto the bed with your knees parted. You let him go and his cock bobbed.
And he did as you asked.
When Scott fucked you, the heavens blushed from above. He took his dick in his hand again, positioning himself to be in front of your pussy that was still shining with the wetness he left. He rubbed his tip up and down, gathering the wetness he could. Each motion threatening to push him in faster than either of you wanted.
This could be hours or forever and youâd never want it to end.
He stopped at your entrance to look in your wanton eyes. They begged him, they wanted him without a word. He guided his cock into you slowly. Your cunt, warm and inviting, welcomed him smoothly. Pressing your head deep into the pillows, you let out weak gasps at his intrusion.
Your head was swirling. You were full of him.
Each touch and each thrust was sending you toward a tether that was breaking string by string.
Scott was calculated but not over aware. He listened to your callsâthe shallow, meek whimpers at the virility of his drives. He let you get lost; finding the stars in your eyes as he peered down at you until it became too much and Scott needed to feel you again.
Scott leaned down, taking your neck in both of your hands and kissing you deeply. Your hands glued themselves to the sides of his torso. His lips were a pillow in hot breaths; tongue sloppy when his hips ground into you faster than before.
His cock was splitting you. Thrust after thrust he gained the momentum of chasing a high. He never let you go; holding onto you whether delicate on your neck or grasping at your body, Scott palmed as you grew in want.
âCome on, come on,â he gritted through his teeth as you clenched around him. You werenât registering the sounds of the headboard hitting the wall behind you. It was only you, Scott, and the sounds of your pleasure.
He picked up the rapid movements as best he could. It was so easy to lose himself in you. He, the most rigid man in both word and action, came alive at the opportunity to simply let go. Those words were strangeâto let goâbut he had found it in your meetings.
Scott Miller was many things, yet fucking you unbeknownst to the world was his greatest secret in his cruelty.
He watched you wither or waver, hands shifting to hold his face close to yours. You kept muttering nonsensical deliverances at your hips jutting up to join his. It was growing fierceâyour end. The orgasm eating away at your resolve. Scottâs eyes were battering down on your own, nodding his head with eager anticipation of the rush of your finish.
He nodded, chin bumping yours as your mouths declined to collide in a spectacle. Your breaths beat at the rapid nature of your heart; panting for respite in the low light of the hotelâs table lamp and glow of the television.
âThatâs it,â Scott coaxed. His silence in the efforts of his body ceasing. âCome on.â His teeth bit at his words.
âF-fuck,â you stuttered out. The wave was approaching. It tingled in your toes and laid heavy in your core. âShit,â you gasped quietly. âOh!â
Your mouth fell open and he took the opportunity to kiss you, tugging on your bottom lip as he pulled away and the curl of your toes became too real. You kept squeezing him, emboldening him to come with you.
Scott felt your muscles contract before it was nothing but a shake of your legs. You arched your back into him, allowing him to draw you close as he pounded into your finish to race to his own.
There was nothing in your eyes except the stars you couldnât see. It was fuzzy, exhilarating as the pulses rushed through you in a couple, disjointed and erratic bursts. You couldnât help but shake; it was overstimulating as Scott continued to push against your walls.
You swallowed his grunts, clinging onto his shoulders and cupping his face as he drew his arms under your back and repositioned you. He was close, so close. The beads of sweat on his forehead called him to endâa sure sign of his stamina along the sheen that covered you.
His hips snapped in and out with a fury. The softness of his earlier actions were thrown out the window. He did as he believed, fucked you into a state where youâd remember it for days.
And then his tether broke too.
Scott held your hips against him tightly. He kissed your lips as he finished inside of you before deepening it.
Suddenly you werenât going to remember the sex.
You were going to recall the way he kissed you after he made sure you both came. How he wouldnât let you feel anything but his lips, his tongue, his teeth, until he was soft inside of you.
Scott left your lips with a faint, nearly absent smile.
âHowâs that for remembering?â
He wasnât one for validation. He didnât seek your approval but it slipped out of him with the words he shouldnât say.
You ran your tongue over your lips to wet them. âMm,â you thought. âI might forget what it feels like to be kissed?â
Scott scoffed as you ran your fingers through his hair. He dipped his head again to kiss your shoulder, peppering kisses to your lips as he made a trail. He nuzzled his nose into the side of your face and could tell when your face broke out into a smile. Taking the chance, he tucked his forehead into the crux of your neck and shoulder. You squirmed with laughter but his hands held you steady.
âIâll be heading to The City for a few days,â he grumbled into your neck. âWe got a new truck.â
âThe gang ainât enough anymore? Youâre gonna outnumber us.â
Scott shook his head and began to unravel. He lifted up from you, slipping out as the cold met wet in the air. You could not help but draw your brows together at the discomfortâScottâs thumb rubbed soothing circles on your thigh.
He started off the bed and into the bathroom attached to help clean you up. Tossing your worn shirt back on the bed before shuffling into his briefs and pants again. You sat up in confusion.
âArenât you stayinâ?â You asked. âI thought weâd have a few hours.â
Maybe it had been dangerous to voice hope.
To voice and acknowledge the misery of missing him when it hurt to do so.
He shook his head again and went to his phone. âI gotta get that truck before she flies in.â
She. âWho?â You questioned with concern. You werenât exclusive, you werenât supposed to be jealous.
âSome girl Javi invited out for a few days,â he dismissed. Scottâs eyes were glued to the phone in his hand. âShe works for NWS.â
âTo help you?â
âWhy else?â He sounded disgruntled at the fact. But he ignored your tone too. âSaid she was a friend from college.â
âWhatâs the NWS got to do with your work?â
âSheâs just helpinâ us find the tornados, not anything else. We donât need help in what we do.â
You werenât oblivious to Storm Parâyouâd be a fucking fool not to be. It was something you detested, despised, about him and if you thought about it too long, you felt even the slightest but guilty of letting your thoughts wander to him when you were set on doing good.
He took from people in pain for what? His own personal gain? The money he raked in on the side of allowing a maniac of a man to fund his projects?
You knew there was a piece of him that strung you along not for sex or the fondness of it, but out of necessity to follow.
His team of storm chasers wouldnât have the opportunities if they didnât follow Tyler and the crew.
You were just collateral for the course. A âget love quick schemeâ in the center of a raging cyclone of fucked up felonies and a YouTube channel of misfits.
Scott let his fingers move briskly over the keyboard of his phone.
âWhen is she coming?â You feigned to ponder instead.
âMonday.â
âSo that means you have to leave now?â
Oh Lord Almighty. You sounded pathetic. Knees pulled up to your chest, holding the pieces of you together as you became forgotten.
You may have done things that made your momma blush but you cowering under the idea that a man is gonna leave you cold after a good roll in the sheets would set her aflame.
âHave to,â he tossed his phone back on the chair and took a new shirt out from his backpack. âFor business on Sunday with Riggs before we head out. We agreed toâŚâ he went back to his phone to check the time. âA two oâclock departure time.â
It wasnât even fucking twelve thirty but hey, he couldnât be seen, right?
âBullshit,â you let fall out.
âWhat?â Scott picked it up. His head snapped to you.
âI said itâs bullshit,â you said a bit louder for him to hear. âI donât get it, I donât.â
âWhat donât you âgetâ?â He had a lacing of judgment in his voice. It could have been the MIT superiority in him that festered with the ever mounting praise of his colleagues.
âI just donât know when it will be enough for all of you,â you scoffed. âYou pour money down drains for machines and tech and then you stockpile tragedies we canât even keep up with. And now youâve got the NWS on your side? The ones who are supposed to care about keeping us safe?â
âItâs freelance,â he pointed out while tucking in his shirt. He did up the belt in a flash. âAnd these people donât need whatâs left for them after itâs all gone. You know how hard it is for them to rebuild.â
âBut those are their homes, Scott. What if it was your home or my home or your parents?â
âIâd figure weâd all end up in different places anyway,â he tucked his phone in his back pocket.
You shook your head at him, looking away to focus on the TV. Muttering an âunbelievableâ under your breath, you began to wonder the reasons why he even bothered to show up.
They drove an entire team to Perry to sleep in a run of the mill hotel or perhaps that was second to Scott getting his fill. He just needed one good fuck to send him off and running to his next paycheck.
âI donât know what you want me to say,â Scott concluded dispassionately. That stone cold, humorless man replaced whoever burst through the door.
âWe both have jobs to do. Just stay in your lane and Iâll be in mine.â
Oh Christ he made you fume.
âYou can be a real jackass, you know that?â You narrowed your eyes at him.
âYou arenât tellinâ me anything I ainât heard before, honey.â
âOh fuck off!â You shouted a bit too loudly. He slung his cap back on his head. âYouâre such a piece of shit.â
âThen why tell me you were gonna be here?â He hummed an ask, approaching the bed with intent. You looked up at him as he settled in the spot next to you with his feet on the floor and arm outstretched to hold onto the headboard.
âWhy ask me to sleep with you or stay or kiss you or whatever else just to hate me after itâs all done?â
âI didnât ask to hate you.â
âYou donât hate me,â he clarified. âYou just hate the way you feel about me.â
âYouâre selfish,â you settled on.
âYouâre entitled,â Scott countered. The Ole Miss on your shirt burned.
âYou donât care about anyone except yourself.â
And that pained you.
âYou care about everyone else far too much,â he pulled his head toward you. His eyes flicked between your lips and eyes and you wanted to punch him and kiss it away.
All you wanted was to have a good night. To be worshiped in a quiet space and he gave you that, even if brief.
âSometimes I donât know why we even try.â
He was taken aback by it. You both were two people on very different ends of a string that snapped you together. It wasnât perfect but it worked for the most part.
âThen why do we?â He shouldnât have said it yet he did.
âYou canât even bear to stay,â you whispered. For a second, you thought you saw clarity in those cloudy eyes. âYou canât even fucking hold me after what we did.â
âI have to leave. I canât stay.â
âYou donât get it do you?â
Scott breathed in deeply, declining the sentiment with a toss of his head.
âI gotta go,â he said quietly instead. He took your chin in his hand, knocking it gently to the side.
âI donât know how you do it,â was all you could muster.
And then he left without another word.
In Booneâs mind, it did not matter if the sky was at its darkest, a joint never waited to be smoked when necessary.
He had woken about an hour before as Storm Parâs slamming of car doors rustled him from slumber. The RV wasnât the most perfect place to reside while traversing wild weather but he loved it all the same. He rolled off the bunk without notice of Dexter who would have surely scolded him for partaking at such a late hour.
So, he snuck into the truck and lit up in the quiet solitude of night without interruption.
It wasnât until an hour later when the drowsy feel of his tingles began to wear into sleep that he began to see things heâd question.
Boone rubbed the tired from his eyes the same time a door opened up to his right. He ducked into the front seat as though what he was doing was far from normal and spied the invasion of the public space.
Down to the right, Scott exited the room with a scowl on his face Boone could see in the dark. A backpack slung over his shoulder, he looked frustrated compared to the blasĂŠ he was used to. Scott walked past Boone without noticing and hopped into one of Storm Parâs trucks.
Boone remained ducked as he thought back to the room. Scott settled in the passenger seat before reclining it back to sleep. He disappeared from Booneâs view and the latter looked to the motel rooms again.
Even in his foggy memory, he recalled Lily sticking a crumpled piece of paper in the cup holder for Tyler to use. It had the address of the motel and the room numbers reserved. He scouted the cup holders until his fingers grasped the paperâs corner.
â34221 Sli-â he rumbled off as he read the note. His eyes traveled down to the rooms.
Lily room nine.
Tyler room thirteen.
Dani room twenty-one.
And then his eyes widened in curiosity at your name finely written and a twenty-two carved next to it. Those same numbers were lightly illuminated by the light above the door.
âNo shit,â Boone chuckled in disbelief.
The next few days were nothing but a blur.
The sky was like that too. Cloudy and gray. It seemed to reflect whatever was left inside of you to stir and gather into something larger as your memories of Scott overplayed in your mind with poor restraint.
God, how you wished it would just rain and swallow you whole.
It was absurdâfeigning such disappointment over a man who was not your significant other but did everything in solitude to appear that way. He loved on you and left you cold with nothing to warm the thoughts of what it would be like when you saw him again.
And when you did, it was disappointing.
The woman they had brought on to help was far too good to be mixed in with a crowd of degenerate Ivy pricks but she stayed with them longer than she should have. In their paths, it felt like they crossed yours even more than before.
You were struck trying to avoid Scottâs entire being when his truck passed or when they stopped at the same station or motel or place as you and yours.
It started to eat at you, the avoidance.
On an early Tuesday morning, you felt the winds begin to change again. Tyler blew a tire the night before and broke his jack trying to fix it. The lot of you ended up in the parking lot of a rundown gas station as the sun began to rise when the white trucks came barreling down the road and straight into the parking lot.
Dani booed them from the stairs of the RV.
âCanât your just leave us the hell alone?â Lily complained. It had been four days straight of interactions with them and it had caused nothing but trouble. You tried your best to stay normal but Boone kept sitting by you as if he wanted to hold your hand.
It peeved you to think he knew something was wrong.
âThey just love us too much,â Dani joked as she waved at the group exiting their trucks. Kate, their newest addition, smiled in the distance.
âAinât that the truth,â Boone acknowledged from beside you.
âHey Storm Par!â Dani shouted. âGo find your own fucking tornados!â
Beside their trucks, Javi scoffed and shook his head.
âWhat?â Kate inquired, her eyes curious as they had been the last week. âTheyâre just jokinâ Iâm sure.â
âNah,â Javi replied. âThey donât like us the same as we donât like them. I thought youâd pick up on that now.â
âWell sure,â Kate laughed at the ridiculousness of it. âBut thereâs more to this than that.â
Thereâs more to chasing than a fight.
âYeah well, tell that to them.â
âTheyâre just shitheads,â Scott piped up on his approach. âThink theyâre better than the rest of us because theyâve got a camera in their face.â
âTheyâve been fine to me,â Kate defended. She watched as the so-called tornado wranglers bounced up from their seats and headed in her direction. The man with the bandana tried to coax you to join but you refused physically.
âItâs just all of you that rub them the wrong way.â
âWell itâs a two-way street.â
You go your way, and Iâll go mine.
Kate observed the carefree way in which everyone interacted with one another. The two other girls tugged on your arms to bring you to your feet against your will. She felt Scott shift on his feet beside her but didnât dwell on it.
âThey still got that reporter with âem,â she noted. âMust be an interesting bunch to write a story about.â
âWhen you put together people from seven different walks of life, youâre bound to get something good,â Javi agreed with her.
Scott shifted again and Kate looked up at him. He wore his sunglasses, therefore it was hard to see his eyes. But his face was set and jaw tight. His hands were dug into his pockets but the distaste rolled off of him in waves. She looked back into the direction of all of you.
Boone was running circles around the three girls as their arms were wrapped around each other. Friends. It reminded Kate too much of the ones she lost.
âAlright everyone,â Scott called out. âFive minutes and then weâre back on the road.â
The inside of the station was no different than any other. Five rows of food with a wall of freezers in the back, a broken counter with a tower of cigs and vapes waiting to be sold. Kate was reading the back of a SunChips bag when you all came in. The bell above the door sounding with a jingle, Dani and Lilyâs laughter filled the space compared to the nonexistent chatter of Storm Parâs presence.
You held the door open for Tyler who gave a wink and a thanks that didnât phase you as it would her. He was handsome, charming if a little obnoxious. He smiled at Kate and a part of her felt like running, the other falling.
You didnât have the same spunk the others did. After they left your vicinity the smile on your face dropped and the shoulders were heavy. You passed Kate, giving her a small hello, before walking down the aisle. She peaked her head to the side of the stand.
âFind anything good?â Kate called out kindly. Her light Oklahoma twang cut through.
You glanced at her. âIf you count fruit flavored Doritos good, then maybe we have different tastes.â
She chuckled and took it as a sign to approach.
You didnât know much about Kate other than what Boone had dug up and what Scott had mentioned before she arrived. She was smart as a whip, a talented chaser, and one who made mistakes too.
âI donât think those would be good in any situation.â
âWe can agree there,â you mumbled. You picked up a small bag of Veggie Straws.
âSo where are yâall chasing today?â Kate inquired.
âWhy?â You countered. âSo you can follow us around?â
âNo,â she shook her head, feeling as though she offended you. âNo⌠we can find our own. I was just wonderinâ if yâall wanted to go to this bar tonight.â
You furrowed your brows. Under the static lighting of the gas station mart, you were falling into confusion.
âYâall as in⌠us?â
âYeah,â she laughed. Kate was intrigued by what you did. The way you all risked so much for entertainment or maybe, for some of you, there was still an inch of science to be discovered.
The day after you all converged and she had a panic attack at the sight of the tornado, Kate spent the morning watching the videos posted from your channel. She was amazed by the thrill of what feelings Tyler and Boone could ooze out of the screen.
But she took a liking to the science you broke down for the average viewer. The way you taught amidst the chaos of wrangling tornadoes or shooting fireworks up the funnel.
âI thought we could all use a break,â she shrugged. âJavi and I have known each other for a long time and we used to stop there for line dancing on Thursdays.â
Well it just so happened to be a Thursday.
âAnd these fellas are more wound up than a goddamn toy,â she said under her breath. âI think a pitcher of beer and some good olâ fashion Oklahoma hospitality would do us well.â
âOh,â you replied softly. âUm, well⌠Ty makes a lot of those decisions so many you could ask him?â
Her eyes went bright. âSure! I mean, I just thought Iâd ask. They all talk about you so much⌠I think theyâre all a little jealous.â
The thought of what Scott or any of the other Storm Par guys said about you and your friends bristled you. Scottâs face met you in dreams to remind you that he was never too far away and whatever strife you had with him and his work was always going to get in the way.
âDo they?â You commented. You could hear Javi in the aisle over talking to Scott about equipment.
âMhm.â
âHow charming,â you moved down the aisle to the other products but Kate didnât follow. She looked in your direction but behind you.
Javi and Scott were at the end of the aisle beside you, the former shuffling behind you with a small âexcuse meâ while the other stood there for a brief moment. You looked over your shoulder at him and his glasses were now gone, meeting your gaze for seconds too long.
âI was just inviting them to come with us,â Kate informed Javi who turned, eyeing you as your attention was distracted.
âWell I hope they can dance,â Javi .
Kate said your name which brought your attention back. You could feel Scott lingering, his stance imposing on your small aisle of snacks. You could always feel him aroundâa curse from caring about everyone too much. He wasnât a small man or one who could hide in the shadows; he towered over the short shelves.
And that caught Tylerâs attention when the conversation became too loud to go unnoticed. He appeared out of thin air at the other end of the aisle by the door.
You wanted the bags of chips to swallow you whole. It was bad enough that you were stuck between the word you loved and the man who made it more complicated. It was bad enough that Tyler would certainly say yes to Kateâs proposal because he had been sneaking glances at her for a week.
He had shit-eating grin on his face as he walked closer to the group of you. His curious eyes monitoring the way Scottâs body was a little too close to yours.
A part of him believed they were cornering you for something. He wouldnât put it past them for their sordid work in the hellish treatment of victims but hey, who was he to assume? You clutched the bag in your hands hard enough it could pop.
âWe all good over here?â Tyler questioned Scott specifically. It was the only other guy he could size up to and play out a macho-man persona. âI donât think I need to tell yâall that my team is my team, off limits to your work.â
Scott laughed, truly laughed at Tyler. Javi and Kateâs heads whipped around to Scott who rested an arm bent on the shelves beside him. Tyler focused on Scott in a labored calculation. He might have been the one they all liked the least.
âDid I say somethinâ funny?â
âYeah,â Scott replied. His voice flat as always. âYou did.â
Tyler looked around at Kate, Javi, and yourself who frowned.
âCare to explain what?â
Scott held back an amused smile as his eyes creased at the edges. You looked up at him with a warning. To your surprise, Scott looked back.
âNo,â he responded curtly while looking at you. Off limits.
Kate sensed it. She did. There was something thereâthe air heavy like a storm.
âWeâre gonna go to a dance bar in Enid tonight. I was just askinâ if all yâall would like to join us,â Kate pitched in to Tyler who slowly removed his gaze from Scott to her. His eyes let up softly.
âDance bar? I donât take any of these fellas for the dancing kind.â
âDonât you know weâre all from here?â Javi asked him and he didnât. You did but Tyler didnât know much about any of them except their high degrees of achievement and late-stage superior fraternity behavior.
âSo youâre tellinâ me that Mr. Stick-up-his-ass here can two step like itâs his birthday?â
âOh you ainât never see Scott dance,â Javi laughed loudly and gathered the rest of the wranglers to the aisle. âWe can dance you into next week.â
âAlright,â Tyler nodded his head. One night wouldnât hurt. âIâm good with it as long as itâs fine with Doc.â
Shit. They all gazed at you with bated breath. You could feel their beady eyes piercing; Scott's blistering eyes on the side of your head prompting you to try.
The last time you attempted to have a good evening it left you reeling. That was six days ago and you still replayed Scottâs words through your mind. Over and over and over and over again.
Youâre entitled.
Stay in your lane.
You cared about everyone else too much.
Yet your lanes always converged. And you had the right to be entitled as the name suggested. Doc. You were overly qualified to be there and whatever flew your way, you deserved it.
And fuck, if you didnât care about everyone else, youâd be a shell of a human. So hollow that your world would collapse.
By the laws of physics, youâd stay in motion. Youâd keep going even if he pulled you backwards a million times.
You looked at Tyler, tossing your bag of chips in his direction.
âIâd love to go dancinâ.â
Boone screeched a happy whistle and yelled to save him a dance. Scott seethed at those words as if he had a claim otherwise. It was an agreement to keep it quiet for the sake of your jobs, your sanity. But he was a covetous in his belongings and for whatever belief he had, you were his in all but name.
His actions made it difficult to fully manifest into reality. When you keep a locked door locked, you donât deserve to enjoy it for free. It ate away at him differently than the anxiety of hurt ate at you.
He wanted to freely give himself to youâto be the man you'd see on dark nights in the solace of a bedroom or wherever you could find respite.
It was tough to be the person you thought you were.
It was much easier to be a coward.
The dance bar was packed full of locals and tourists alike. You couldnât place the pull Enid had on people who werenât from there but it was alive the moment you walked through the door.
Boone whistled at the sight of everything.
âI gotta hand it to âem. They sure can pick a place.â
âHave you never been dancinâ before?â You questioned, linking your arm in the space offered by him. He gave a cheeky smile and tipped his cowboy hat with a free finger.
âOh, donât underestimate me, Doc. Just cause you ainât seen these moves donât mean I ainât got them.â
âMaybe Iâve been blessed. If itâs the same way you hold a camera, I canât imagine your feet.â
âUh huh,â he egged you on. âKeep it cominâ. I have a whole night to prove you wrong.â
You scrunched your nose at him. At the moment, a series of rapid clicks sounded behind you. You and Boone peaked behind you at Ben, the reporter, snapping a photo.
âSorry,â he apologized bashfully. âI havenât been able to capture much of you.â He spoke to you, not Boone. âI want to feature more than just the storms.â
âWell youâre gonna get a whole lot more than storms tonight, Ben!â Boone cheered as Dani joined him on his other side.
You got the sudden sense of deja vu to your college days. Those undergraduate nights where your friends would drag you to the bar and everything was far too loud and over exciting. It was beer and booze and feet that fumbled. There was nothing over exhilarating about going out on a weekday but now, past those prime days, you felt a simmer of that feeling come alive inside of you.
Against your better judgment, the idea that Scott and you were crossing paths in a public setting beyond your professions was exciting. It sent thrills down you when it shouldnât.
He had done nothing to remedy what he saidânor you for that matter. You kept your distance by sitting in the truck while stopping or sleeping in the RV with Dexter and Boone instead of a motel. Every time in the last week that your lines had met, you kept them parallel.
Tonight would be the hardest to not intersect.
âCan I buy you all a round?â Ben offered kindly. His mannerisms were foreign in the West. âFor an exciting week, I suppose.â
âWho are we to say no, Ben?â Tyler slung an arm around his shoulder. Dexter and Lily flanked him at his sides.
Your group settled at a table in the back of the bar by the darts and pool table. Dexter challenged Dani to a rematch of a game they had settled a couple of weeks ago, and the rest of you nursed or chugged the beer that Ben had bought. You were the former. Sticking your attention on the foam at the top as it slowly made its way down the glass to become nonexistent.
âSo,â Boone cleared his throat beside you as Dani, Tyler, and Ben looked over the photos the journalist had taken thus far.
âIs there a reason your attitude has been shit lately?â
You peered into the glass. Fingers tapping the sides of it.
âI was editing the last video and if anyone wanted a tornado to actually kill them, viewers might be convinced itâd be you.â
âOh come on,â you scoffed. âI am sure my bad day didnât ruin the video.â
âI didnât say ruin, only tainted it. But whatâs goinâ on?â He pointed and probed at your temple invasively. âThe wheels are turning. I can hear them.â
âItâs nothinâ, Boone. Just⌠girl stuff.â
âMy favorite!â He bellowed like a King. Dani transitioned from her conversation to yours.
âWhatâs your favorite?â
âGirl stuff,â he mimicked. âJust askinâ about little miss sad is all.â
Dani nodded, taking a sip of her beer.
âIs it about your tinder date?â
âMy what?â You showed deep confusion. âWhat date?â
âLast week,â she said casually. âI could hear your headboard against my wall. Jesus,â Dani laughed. âI didnât know you had it in you Doc.â
Ben and Tylerâs conversation ended and they eavesdropped from the end of the table. At the other end of the bar, Storm Par, in casual clothing, entered.
You blanched at her words. You didnât even realize.
âOh-ho!â She pounded a fist on the table. âIt was a tinder guy! Ha!â
Boone went suspiciously quiet beside you as she kept on.
âI didnât want to say anything then but it makes sense. Youâve been on edge ever since. Maybe you should call himââ
âNo,â you shook your head at her. Your hands left the glass and settled in your lap.
âHe wasnât good? Ohââ
âNo!â You defended too fast and awkwardly. Boone glanced at Tyler who became far too interested in his co-pilotâs silence.
Dani lowered her voice with concern. âWas it too, you know, rough? Did he hurt you?â
âOh my God!â You exclaimed at the invasion of privacy. âCan you not?â
âSorry!â She held up her hands. âI didnât hear anything else if thatâs what youâre worried about. I donât want to know your kinks.â
âOh fuck me,â you wailed. âDani, can you please stop?â
âOk, ok!â She backed off and sat in her seat. âIâm just trying to help!â
âI know,â you breathed in. Tyler took a large sip of his beer before putting it back on down the table.
âWe know him?â He questioned, eying Boone move uncomfortably in his seat. You looked at him and gaped for a millisecond before shaking your head.
âNo. No, I donât think so.â
Boone glanced at Tyler again and he knew you lied. He didnât think it was Booneâthat would be a nonstarter because you werenât his type. It wasnât Dexter because he was married and Ben was not interested in women.
He knew you didnât swing for Dani or Lily so it was someone else. Dani already deduced it was a man so any other woman was out of the question.
âWell maybe you just need to find someone else to take your mind off of it?â Dani suggested.
âYeah. Maybe.â You bit at the inside of your cheek.
âA lot of fuss over a one night stand,â Tyler put an arm over the back on Benâs seat. âMustâve been somethinâ if youâre down and out about it.â
You downed the beer before you in a flash.
âMustâve,â Dani agreed with a hum.
âAnyone want another?â You asked, shifting out of your seat. The heels of your boots clacked onto the floor with a bounce.
Everyone shook their heads no and let you leave the table.
The music was pumping through the speakers loudly and the bar was full. You spotted Kate with a couple of the Storm Par guys doing a shotâall of them looking like regular Joeâs in their tees and flannels. Not far from the edge of the bar Scott and Javi waited for pitchers to be filled.
It was rare you saw him out of his âuniform.â Clad in a dark blue tee and his own flannel, the only thing that separated him from the rest was the way he looked. When he tried, Scott was movie-star handsome. The kind of person thatâd be having girls write their numbers on his hand at the end of the night.
His presence was unfair to the other men aroundâexcept for Tyler on the occasion. It was a shame he was an asshole.
Instead of going toward Scott and Javi as you might have a week ago, you took an empty spot beside Kate who cheerfully greeted you. She waved down the bartender, asking for another shot and to refill your glass.
Tyler watched you walk away. He couldnât see the decision making in your eyes or hear the thoughts in your mind, yet he had his own to make assumptions.
âBoone,â he called to his friend who sat quietly. Tyler watched you stand next to Kate and Benâs gaze followed.
âYeah?â
âWhy you beinâ so quiet?â
âIâm n-not,â he tripped over his words. âIâm not.â
âYou sure we donât know him?â
Tyler clocked each of the Storm Par men. None of them looked immediately taken by you standing there, itching to get their hands on you but then he let himself wander to the end of the bar.
And he locked in.
âI donât know him,â Boone choked a laugh. âHow would I know? Sheâd tell Dani before me.â
âI didnât say she told you.â
âWell Iâm just implying.â
Tyler turned to Ben who was trying to copy Tylerâs movements.
âBen,â Tyler tipped his head toward you. âTell me what you see.â
Ben cleared his throat like he was being interrogated. âWell they just got a second round of shots and the bartender said itâs on the house. She must recognize us.â
âOk,â Tyler pointed. âAnd down there? What can we conclude, Mr. London.â
âOh, well⌠it seems not everyone is out for a good time.â It was Scottâs frown that told him that.
âYou sure?â Tyler watched as Dani blanked. Her eyes suddenly went wide and worrisome at the thought.
âNo!â She objected. âNo fucking way. Not on my watch, Tyler. Nope!â
âWhat?â Ben asked frantically. âWhatâs wrong?â
âTyler thinks itâs one of them,â Dani pointed to Javi and Scott.
âIt is one of them,â as though there were options. âItâs the fucking stick in the mud.â
Dani scowled and physically rejected the idea. Ben watched what Tyler did as Scott, the taller of the two men and the one facing your direction at the bar, couldnât keep his eyes off you as you laughed at whatever Kate said.
You started to leave and he averted his gaze until your back was to him. You didnât even look at him when you passed him and Javi.
âShit,â Dani muttered as you got closer. Boone closed his eyes with a sigh before nodding at the rest of the table.
âIt is him,â he admitted and Dani slapped a hand on her face. âI saw him.â
âYou saw them?â
âNo, him. Leaving her motel room last week.â
âOh Lord,â Dani nearly wailed. âSheâs been sad over him?â
âHe is quite attractive,â Ben defended. Dani slapped his arm harshly.
âDammit donât say that!â
Tyler sat in contemplation. He had been your friend for years now and knew when things got rough, it could be difficult to overcome them. Everyone had gone through countless breakups and one night stands and situationships that didnât work out and after a bit, youâd be ok.
Yet he knew it was different somehow.
Even though he despised Storm Par and had nothing but horrible interactions with Scott, there must have been something there for you to cling on to.
And anger had a distant cousin: jealousy.
When you came back to the table, everyone was quiet and observing.
âWhat?â You questioned each of them.
âNothinââ Dani said quickly.
âOh really?â
âDo you wanna dance?â Tyler asked you abruptly. You could see on his face that there was another thought lingering below the surface but didnât prove.
âRight now?â
âYeah,â he hopped off his stool and motioned toward the group of people dancing to the rhythms of the music. Most were couples, a few spattering of friend groups around.
Tyler held out his hand to you.
âDonât tell me a PhD canât dance, Doc.â
You rolled your eyes, taking his hand in yours. It wasnât Scottâs, but it would do for now.
âOf course I can, hillbilly. I just do it a bit more sophisticated than you.â
Dani and Boone howled in laughter as you let Tyler take you to the dance floor, spinning you around twice before settling to the score. You danced sweetly with one another as the others looked on from their seats.
Tyler Owens always looked proud to be in the company of his friends. Each plucked from their own little obscure corner of the world: a YouTube daredevil, an amateur late-age scientist, an ex-pr firm reject, a tech fair winner, and youâthe science bros internet girlfriend who was a professor of physics.
He adored each of you in a special way that made everyday worth living.
It hurt him that you couldnât be honest about an action so natural. If Scott had been a one time thing or a many time thing, he would learn to accept it if it meant you would be happy.
Heâd want the same in return should a situation arise.
âYou know,â he cleared his throat as the song sped up in tempo but came back down. âWe donât really keep secrets from each other here.â
You sighed, looking away from Tyler. Everyone was at peace on the door before the real dancing began and you tried not to peak at the table as Storm Par settled at the table beside your friends.
âIâm not keeping secrets. Iâm not revealing information.â
âAh!â Tyler chuckled. âOk, fine⌠but if I said that even if you didnât tell us and kept whatever you have with whoever it is going, that we would all be ok with it, that wouldnât matter?â
âIt doesnât matter,â you said frankly. âI thinkââ
âThat heâs staring at us right now.â
Tyler met your eyes with purity. There was no cruelty or hatred in them for you to think he was being a jerk about it.
You opened your mouth to speak but he denied you the chance.
âThereâs a lot of things I could say about it, Doc. A lot. You couldâve picked a nicer dude, not a leech to our operations, someone who cares about peopleâŚâ he trailed off when he saw your demeanor fall far from his jokes.
âBoone saw him,â he clarified. âHe put the pieces together but didnât want to say anything. Not his place, I guess.â
âNo,â you said in soft resignation.
âDo you want to talk about it?â
âNot really.â
âHow long?â
âNot long after we met them,â you confessed. About a year ago. Tyler whistled, his hand inched a bit lower on your back but it was still respectful, you didnât mind.
âAnd something he did, said, isnât sitting right?â
âNo.â
âDo you want my advice?â
You stayed silent as he continued on. He let the music play out as you swayed. Javi and Kate joined on the floor and their giggles were noticeable from the short distance between you.
âGuys like him⌠theyâre complicated. And I get it if you donât want to hear it but Iâve been around guys like him my whole life. They can be selfish and unnerving and stupid. Itâs like theyâre trying to prove to the world that theyâre fit to be in it.â
You couldnât disagree.
âWhen they find a place that accepts them, theyâll rise to the top of it and not know what itâs like to be at the bottom anymore. They forget about people like us.â
âI think I changed my mindââ you started to pull away but he tugged you back.
âIâm not telling you to let him go. He just hasnât been put in a place of uncertainty in a long, long time.â
âHe said I was entitled.â
âHeâs a prick and I will beat his ass if you want me to.â
You smiled. âNo. Itâs ok.â
âI will do it, donât underestimate me,â he smirked. âAnd by the way he watches you, that uncertainty is you.â
âWhat do you mean by it?â
âI think you might scare him a little, Doc.â
You did.
Scottâs heart rate rose significantly from the time he entered the bar, saw you, and had to watch you dance with Tyler. Those same words that replayed in your mind the last week surfaced as soon as he sat in the truck and the door was shut.
He was an ass. It was a part of him that he couldnât escape from no matter how he tried. His memories delicately held onto the hours you shared where he felt he could be someone else.
Tyler kept glancing in the direction in which Scott sat as though to rub salt in the wound.
âCan we try not to frown today?â Kate saddled up in the seat beside him. âI donât think Iâve ever seen you smile.â
âNormal people donât walk around grinning.â
âNo,â she kicked her feet. âBut they do allow themselves to have fun.â
âI am.â
She blew raspberries as Javi poured the beer into their glasses. âYou are a tough nut.â
âNever not one,â Javi agreed. âJust loosen up, man. The world is bigger than what we do.â
Scott breathed in a frustrated sigh. âIâm fine,â he pressed.
âNot since Iâve met you,â Kate suggested. She looked out into the sea of people. âMaybe we can just all take it easy tonight. Drink some beer, dance, and then find you someone to take home.â
Scottâs voice was muffled by the beer he drank but he shook off her suggestion. He didnât even really know this girl who appeared to be a phenom of weather patterns. All she had done this week was disrupt their workings and fall on his irritation scale.
âI like the sound of that!â Javi encouraged. âWhenâs the last time you been laid, huh? 2015?â
Scott didnât entertain it. He looked out onto the dance floor and saw you swaying with Tylerâa mix of concern and thankfulness levied on your face.
âOk, ok⌠blink once if before or twice if after,â Javi continued at Kateâs amusement. âIâm serious, man. Weâre gonna hook you up, alright? Kateâs got a six sense for pickinâ the right ones.â
Javi took his turn but the song changed to a favorite of Kateâs and his eyes lit up at the same time hers did. Call it a sign from the heavens, but Scott had been saved from the humiliation of his friend.
Kate dragged Javi to the floor not far from you and Tyler and it gave him protection to keep looking.
Tyler spun you close to Javi and Kate.
âWe all have to face our fears,â Tyler told you. âIf we donât, theyâre gonna prevent us from what we need in our lives.â
âDid anyone ever tell you that a book deal might be in your future? Words of Wisdom by everyoneâs favorite tornado wrangler.â You emphasized with the sparkle of your fingers.
âThat ainât a half bad idea.â
âIâm full of great ideas.â
âThen start thinkinâ of one to remedy this. I love ya, I do. But if you let his shell break you, it will be a hell of a lot harder to handle the road.â
âThank you, Tyler,â you said earnestly. âI wasnât sure what any of you would say about it.â
âWell,â he racked his brain for the thought. âYou remember that girl Dani was seeinâ from Kansas? She might not have been the most perfect but she was perfect for Dani when she needed her. And maybe thatâs Scott for you.â
The sound ended abruptly and the speakers let out a deafening tone. A bartender came onto the surround sound to kick off the line dancing that only Tyler could hype up more. Kate and Javi found themselves beside you both and everyone that could fit on the wooden floor ascended.
Tyler clapped his hands together as he stationed himself near the first line. You werenât too confident in yourself even if you had been doing this since you could walk, so you settled in the spot behind him. Kate was jovial to stand next to Tyler. Her eyes twinkled and you thought back on his words.
Perfect for what was needed.
âOoO, my man!â Javi clapped Scottâs back in surprise as he joined on the floor.
Dani, Boone, and Lily ran to stand next to you, so Javi and Scott took the positions behind you. Dexter cheered everyone on from the table with Ben. The latter took his camera out with his finger on the shutter.
âDonât step on our shoes now, you hear me?â Lily screeched over her shoulder to Javi and Scott. Feeling emboldened by the two glasses of beer he downed in a record time, Scott ran a hand through his hair.
âDonât worry about it!â He shouted back.
âOk Mr. MIT, come to show us how itâs done!â Lily drawled. She tugged on your armâhaving missed the conversation prior. Daniâs smile dropped off her face fast.
âI say we place a bet!â She yelled over the music that was getting so loud. Your ears rung as the lights began to spin in different colors. Javi heard the bet and drew closer to Lily.
She pulled your arm with her, sticking you beside Scott. He put his hands on his hips and his elbow knocked your other arm.
âTwenty that heâll fall on his face,â she suggested.
Javi looked at Scott and contemplated the idea. Scott was distracted by you standing there. He just stared, like a fish out of water in a town not far from one he visited as a kid.
You made him feel like a fish out of water.
âDeal!â You heard Javi agree and before Lily could shake his hand in a deal, you piped up.
âI bet with Javi!â She peeped at you surprised. âForty says he can!â
Scott never had someone put trust in him like that. It was a damn good thing his mother taught him more than just math and science.
âOk!â She yelled back, shaking both Javi and your hand.
Before you turned to take your spot as the music started, you took Scott in.
âDonât disappoint me!â You shouted.
After the last few days, he couldnât will himself to.
He shook his head, letting a smile grow to his eyes. Dani had never seen it before.
âWouldnât dream of it, baby!â
And Scott danced his fucking ass off.
You werenât sure where it ended or began, but you could feel it coming in your bones.
Not the sounds of laughter in a confined space or the blaring of musicâthe rapid, unpredictable nature of dedication a person could not admit. It was a funnel cloud below the truck; a spiraling tire on the side of the road blasting its radius toward you.
The cool air at night hit your body like a bucket of water. The squealing of the door to the bar rattled at the force you used to push but it didnât slam closed as you expected.
Two minutes ago, you were breathing heavily on the dance floor. The stomping rhythm of boots on wood turning your mind blank with every kick and turn. You had found the peace within the steps and let it drive you to a foundation.
Scott had gladly proved them all wrongâenjoying the surprised excitement that emitted from both his and your own team at the way he was able to, standing above six feet, move the way he did. He caught your smile more than once, a resurgence of hope filled him.
At the break of the song, you hung onto Lilyâs arm, pointing to the door.
âI need some air,â you nearly heaved.
So you went for the door and he debated on whether to follow but in the business you took up, there was always the possibility of never having another moment.
And if he didnât strike his fear now, heâd never do it.
âHey,â he called out to you as the music started up again but you were too far gone. Already halfway to the door by the time he had made a decision. He tried calling out to you again, except his track was cut off by a sweaty Boone.
âEx-â
âDonât fucking hurt her,â Boone panted. His eyes pleaded for his friend, for you. âDonât do it. Please.â
âIâm notââ
âYou say youâre not but Iâm sure youâve said it before. But think about it, dudeâŚâ Boone got up in Scottâs personal space. âIf a tornado hit this building right now and you were the only one left, would you be ok with how this ends?â
Scott saw the earnest plea in Booneâs call. He placed a hard, firm hand on Booneâs shoulder.
âI appreciate it, man.â
It was the first time Scott was decent to him.
Scott left him standing there near the entrance as he caught the door before it slammed closed. Outside, you stood in a cool down position in the orange-yellow glow of the parking lot.
His heart was beating out of his chest. It hadnât felt that way in a week.
He wasnât sure if you knew he had followed you. You didnât turn around and didnât acknowledge him as the silence overtook. Crickets strung their chords and cars whirled by on the road.
Scott leaned against the brick building under the neon lights with a knee bent.
âDo I scare you?â
You broke the silence after minutes had passed. You kept your back to him but he looked up, folding his arms across his broad chest.
If you turned around, you feared you wouldnât be able to keep it together.
âDonât lie to me,â you tried not to sound like a beggar. âDo I scare you?â
âYeah,â he stated frankly. âYeah you do.â
âWhy?â
You could hear him breathe out. You imagined him looking around for an answer.
âThereâs a million reasons why.â
âYou canât name one?â You took the chance to glance at him. His face was half illuminated by a moody blue glow of the neon sign.
âI can name plenty,â he reassured. âI just donât know whatâs too personal to say.â
âThereâs no such thing.â
âFine,â his fingers tapped on his bicep. âYou scare me because this game we play doesnât always feel like a game to me.â
The sex. The getting together in the middle of the night to whisper sweet nothings and cherish a deep connection to feel like itâs nothing the next day.
âYou scare me because youâre smart and know what youâre doing when weâre just getting our heads straight.â
Your head tilted to the side at his honesty.
âYou scare me because I feel something that maybe I shouldnât. Because by some stupid chance I canât have you, someone else will and I canât imagine seeing them with you.â
Your chest tightened.
âIâm selfish to think that way,â he nodded. âYouâre right about that.â
âI was talking about your work,â you confessed. âI think what you do is selfish.â
He didnât say anything to that because he knew it was also true. Everything he sold to people was a fat lie to make money for a man who already had enough.
âYou care about people too much,â he repeated. âAnd I donât have enough people to put the care that I have into them.â
âYouâre an asshole,â you told him and he nodded again.
âIâd have to agree.â
âYou made me feel like shit.â
âI canât take it back.â
âI donât want you to.â
âIâm sorry,â he apologized. âFor what I said and didnât do. I was an asshole and you didnât deserve it.â
His moody blues were turning the sky sad. A raindrop hit the ground between you.
âI donât think I deserve your forgiveness,â he continued. âIâve never been nice to your friends, or you, when weâre on the road. I dislike the way Tyler danced with youâmade me want to knock his fucking teeth out but I figured youâd hate me more if I did.â
âHe did that on purpose, you know.â
He shook his head, looking off into the grassland beyond the bar. You felt like you were being laid onto an altar for a choice. One that seemed easy but was hard, and one that was hard but the devil claimed it was easy.
âFigures,â he mumbled. âBut I deserved it.â
âWeâd have to agree there too.â
He looked up at you again. Arms still crossed, he undid them and extended a hand to you as an offering. Scott was not shocked by the hesitation in your steps.
âI think you have a lot of work to do, Scott.â
âI do.â
âAnd I donât want to think this is all grandstanding to get into my bed.â
âItâs not.â
âIâm not one to give second chances,â you told him and he dropped his hand in his lap. âBut I donât think what we were doing constitutes as a first chance either.â
You walked toward him at your own volition. The gravel harsh under your heels, you settled with your toes at his. And you fiddled with the edges of the opening to his flannel no different than the collar in the diner.
âThis is the only chance Iâll give you.â
Another raindrop fell.
âI donât intend on wasting it.â Scottâs eyes flicked between your lips and eyes.
In the laws of physics, there is one to triumph above the rest.
The gravitational law states that if a particle exists, it will attract others to them unwillinglyâit is simply the natural state of existence.
The pull is magnetic; impossible to pass by the will of your mind, body, or soul. It tugged at the heartstrings roughly. A bridge that connected people from everywhere to be in one singular place at the right time.
Scottâs gravitational pull was too powerful to withstand. It pulled every bit of you into him without remorseâit was blue, red, and the colors of the world within to bloom into spectacles youâd only see when your eyes were closed.
Scottâs hands found purchase on your waist, drawing you into his pull. One of your hands remained on his chest. His erratic heart beat no differently than your own and the other hand grasped his forearm.
âIâm sorry,â he whispered in the night. âIâm sorry.â
You rested your forehead on his. âI know.â
The strength of his pull was strong. Yet it was not strong enough for you to pull your head back.
âDonât prove Iâm right,â you wanted him. He nodded, swallowing the lump in his throat.
âCan I be selfish one more time?â He inquired with a gleam in his eyes. Scott ran his tongue over his lips expectantly.
âOh,â you feigned innocence. âWell, I donât know if that wouldââ
He cut you off as he brought his lips to yours, kissing you sweetly. His lips were warm and smelt of a faint cheap beer. Another raindrop fell and this time it hit your face. You ignored it.
You gripped onto his shirt with a fist as he deepened the kiss. Taking one of his hands from you, he cupped the side of your neck to position you as he pleased.
It started to rain in Enid.
In the rain, the laws of physics didnât defy themselves. The rain soaked into your clothes and into his dark locks to drip onto his face more so than yours. The blue of the neon sign growing hot instead of cold.
You broke away from him, tracing the lines of his face.
âDonât prove Iâm right,â you repeated.
And he didnât.
As Spencer was freaking Rossi out on the plane about microbursts, you put your finger on his knee and traced a pattern on it.
Spencer stuttered a bit when he first felt it, looking at you before he went completely silent altogether as you continued for a few more seconds. His cheeks tinged pink.
âHowâd you do that?â Rossi asked, amazed.
âA magician never reveals her secrets.â You smiled and winked.
âYou gotta teach us that, though.â
âSorry. No can do.â You shrug.
âWhy not?â
âItâs ratherâŚintimate.â
âOhâŚwell never mind, then.â
âI meanâŚunless you wanna trace a little pattern on his kneeâŚâ
âI think Iâm good.â
âUnderstood.â
WORD COUNT : 3,8k
Notes: i just LOVE dom spencer. that's all.
You and the rest of the BAU team are out at a bar, having decided that everyone needed to relax and cool off after a long and exhausting case. Garcia has taken Derek out on the dance floor, accompanied by Emily and JJ. Hotch and Rossi are having a quiet chat by the bar.
While you, your sitting next to Spencer at a table, talking about the latest book Spencer has read.
Spencer had been rambling about the book he was currently reading for a good ten minutes now. It was like he had a whole monologue prepared but it didn't bother you that much honestly. His rants were pretty adorable though, watching the enthusiasm shine in his eyes as he talked about the book.
He was almost finishing up the plot of the book when he suddenly paused. He'd gotten so lost in the discussion that he didn't realize that he'd been talking for so long. "Oh my god, have I been talking this entire time?"
To be fair, you didn't mind him talking nonstop, you found it adorable if anything.
"Yeah, you have," you said with a nod, taking a sip of your drink. "But I don't mind, I think it's kind of cute when you get like that."
His cheeks tinted a light shade of pink at your comment.
"Really?" He asked, trying to avoid eye contact, looking down at his drink. "I didn't realize I was talking so much. You were paying attention right?" He questioned before looking back up at you, those wide brown eyes piercing into your own.
Those beautiful honey-eyed eyes that always had so much to say.
"Of course I was," you replied, a small smile tugging at your lips. "I always pay attention, Spence."
You took a moment to admire his flustered expression before taking another sip of your drink.
Even though he felt a sense of embarrassment, he secretly enjoyed the fact that you found him adorable.
"Well, you didn't stop me," He mumbled, taking a quick sip of his own drink in a failed attempt to hide his blush. "I could have gone on for hours."
Oh, you definitely knew he could do that.
A soft laugh escaped your lips. "I know you could," you said, shaking your head in amusement. "I wouldn't expect anything less from you."
You moved your stool slightly closer to him, your knee brushing against his under the table.
The slight contact between your knee and his sent a jolt of pleasure through his body, causing his blush to deepen.
He tried to play it cool, taking another sip of his drink, but he couldn't help the smirk that tugged at the corners of his lips.
"You enjoyed listening though, didn't you?"
"Of course I did," you replied, a sly smile on your face. "I like hearing you ramble on about all your nerdy stuff. It's cute."
You placed your hand on his thigh, giving it a gentle squeeze.
''Well, aren't you two just adorable.'' Your head perked up at an unfamiliar voice, your eyes landing on a man, probably around his early forties. His hair was almost completely grey, which might be due to the stress, or old age might just catch up to him quicker than he thinks. He had a sleezy smile on his face, his eyes dilated, indicating that he was most likely drunk.
Of course, you were profiling him. Working at BAU has made you do it daily when you interact with others, without even knowing it.
''Can we help you?'' You questioned, swirling your plastic straw around in your drink. The man fully turned his attention to you, and you felt a chill run up your spine at the way he was ogling you, his eyes moving to your cleavage.
The man's expression didn't change, his sleazy smile still in place. "Just admiring the view," he replied, his words practically slurred due to being so drunk.
His eyes remained fixed on you, shamelessly ogling you, seemingly ignoring Spencer's presence.
''Right... well if you haven't noticed, I'm very much a taken woman.'' You said, gesturing with your chin, pointing at Spencer.
The man's smile faded slightly as he finally turned his gaze to Spencer. He looked him up and down, a hint of amusement in his eyes, as if Spencer couldn't possibly be enough to keep you.
"Is that so?" the man asked, his voice still slurred. "And how do I know that's true? You could just be saying that to get rid of me."
Spencer's grip on his drink tightened, and his jaw clenched, trying to maintain his composure. He knew this creep wasn't worth wasting his energy on, but he was struggling to keep his cool.
"We're together," he responded, his voice firm and cold. "And you need to back off."
The man chuckled at Spencer's words, the alcohol in his system making him more confident than he should be.
He leaned in closer to you, his hand reaching out to grab your arm, attempting to pull you up from your chair. Your eyes widened as you reached for his hand, trying to pry it off of your arm. ''Hey! Don't touch me.'' You stated firmly.
The man didn't let up, his grip on your arm only tightening as he pulled you slightly out of your chair. "Aw, come on, sweetheart, don't be like that," he cooed, his sleazy smile growing wider. "I just want to have a chat, that's all."
Spencer, at this point, was absolutely seething at the man's audacity. He couldn't believe how forward and aggressive this creep was being.
"Let go of her," he said, his voice low and dangerous, standing up from his chair. "Now."
Spencer's actions were quick and precise. In a swift movement, he reached out and grabbed the man's arm, forcefully twisting it behind his back. With a firm push, he slammed the man's chest against the bar counter, the man's head hitting the hard surface with a thud.
The people around them stopped what they were doing and turned to watch, murmurs of shock and surprise filling the air.
The man struggled against Spencer's grip, trying to break free, but Spencer was stronger and more determined. He pressed the man's cheek more firmly against the counter, his free hand resting on the back of the man's neck to keep him pinned in place.
You'd never seen Spencer quite like this before, he could be a little rough if he wanted to, but this? This was Spencer's possessive side breaking out. And you? You found it very... hot.
"I warned you not to touch her," Spencer growled, his voice dark and venomous.
Hotch and Rossi, who had been sitting a bit further down the bar, had immediately heard the commotion and turned to see what was happening. They saw the scene unfold with a mix of surprise and sternness.
Hotch's expression hardened as he got up from his seat, Rossi following suit. They walked over to where Spencer was holding the man against the counter, their steps filled with an authoritative presence.
Both Hotch and Rossi immediately recognized the situation upon approach. Hotch's eyes flicked over the man pinned to the counter before shifting to you, silently checking if you were okay.
You just gave him a small nod, a silent indication that you were okay.
Rossi's face darkened as he observed the scene, his voice firm when he spoke. "What's going on here?"
Spencer, who was still holding the man in place, glanced up at them. "This creep was harassing her," he replied, his voice low and filled with anger. "He wouldn't back off when I told him she was taken, and then he had the audacity to grab her."
Rossi's face tightened at the explanation, his eyes narrowing in annoyance. He looked down at the man, who was still struggling against Spencer's grip.
"Is that true?" Rossi asked, his voice low and stern.
The man mumbled something incomprehensible, clearly not in a state to form a proper response.
Hotch's expression remained stoic, his gaze fixed on the man as he attempted to mumble out a response. He noticed the man's obvious drunkenness and took a step closer.
"Are you drunk, sir?" Hotch asked, keeping his tone even and authoritative.
The man's attempts at speaking were slurred and incoherent, his head still pinned against the counter. There was no denying that he was highly intoxicated.
"I... I had a few drinks," he managed to mutter out, struggling briefly under Spencer's grip again.
"More than a few, I'd say," Spencer grumbled, squeezing the man's wrist tighter to discourage any further escape attempts.
Hotch and Rossi exchanged a knowing glance, both aware that the man was too drunk to deny any of the accusations against him.
Rossi crossed his arms, his eyes fixated on the man in Spencer's grip. "You realize you're causing a scene, right?" he asked, his voice stern.
The man, still pinned to the counter, groaned, trying to twist his head to look at Rossi. "I just... wanted to talk to her," he managed to say, his words slurred and thick.
"There are better ways to approach someone without being a creep," Rossi stated bluntly, his patience with the man starting to wear thin.
Hotch took a step closer to Spencer and the man, his gaze unwavering. "I think it's time you apologize," he said firmly.
The man let out another groan. "Fine, fine... I'm sorry," he muttered, his voice low and resentful.
Spencer, however, didn't loosen his grip, his eyes narrowed as he looked at the man. He wasn't convinced by the man's half-hearted apology.
Hotch noted Spencer's tight grip and the lack of sincerity in the man's apology. He placed a hand on Spencer's shoulder, silently signaling him to ease up a bit.
"Let him go, Reid," Hotch said, his voice quiet but assertive.
Spencer was reluctant to let go, his anger still boiling within him. But he knew Hotch's authority, and he wasn't in a position to argue. With a small huff, he slackened his grip and took a few steps back, allowing the man to raise his head from the counter.
The man, now freed from Spencer's hold, groaned again as he pushed himself off the counter, his balance unstable from the mix of alcohol and the rough treatment. He stumbled back a few steps, leaning against the bar for support.
Rossi watched the man carefully, his eyes sharp and calculating. "I think it would be best if you left," he said, his voice firm.
The man, still swaying slightly, grumbled something under his breath before pushing himself off the bar counter and stumbling away, leaving a trail of muttered curses and unsteady balance in his wake.
You took your bag from where it was hanging onto the chair, slinging it onto your shoulder before stepping over to Spencer. You could tell he was still angry, his jaw clenched and his posture tense.
You placed a hand on his arm, ''Hey...'' You said gently as you squeezed his arm, ''Can we go home?''
Spencer turned to look at you, the anger seemingly slipping from his features as they softened. His brown eyes softened as he looked at you, ''Yeah, yeah, let's go home.''
You nodded in agreement, giving his arm another small squeeze before releasing it, slipping your hand down to lace your fingers with his. Then you both made your way over to Hotch and Rossi to say your goodbyes.
"We're gonna head out," you said, pointing with your head over to the exit.
Hotch glanced between the two of you, his expression becoming a bit softer. "Alright, take care."
Rossi nodded in agreement, his gaze moving from you to Spencer.
"You two stay out of trouble, alright?" he teased, earning a slight roll of the eyes from Spencer. You just chuckled as you started walking, looking over your shoulder at the two older men, ''Can't make any promises.''
The late-night air in your apartment was thick with anticipation as Spencer's usual awkwardness had given way to a powerful, unrestrained passion. The adrenaline from the bar had left a tangible energy between you two, a charged electricity that seemed to buzz through the air. The door slammed shut behind you, and the moment you were alone, Spencer wasted no time in showing you just how much he needed you.
He pulled you into a fervent kiss, his hands gripping your waist with an urgent intensity. His lips were hot and demanding against yours, his tongue sweeping in with a possessive hunger. You could feel the heat of his desire radiating off him, his cock pressing insistently against your lower belly.
He was kissing you like he was a man-starvedâ and that he was.
''Fuck, youâre so hot,'' Spencer growled against your lips, his voice rough with lust. ''I need you so badly.''
He backed you towards the wall, his hands working quickly to undress you. His fingers fumbled with the buttons of your blouse, but his frustration only heightened the urgency in his movements. When your blouse finally fell open, exposing your bare skin, he looked at you with a hungry appreciation. His eyes traveled over your body, lingering on your exposed cleavage and the curve of your hips.
''You're so perfect,'' he muttered, his voice hushed but filled with a raw edge. His hands traced the contours of your body, his touch both reverent and greedy. He slid his fingers along your collarbone, down to the swell of your breasts, and gently cupped them, his thumbs brushing over your nipples.
You gasped, your body arching towards his touch as he squeezed gently. ''Spencer, please,'' you whimpered, your voice trembling with desire. ''I need more. Please... please give me more.''
''I'll give you anything you want, anything.'' He muttered lowly as his hands moved to the waistband of your jeans. He undid the button and zipper with a rough urgency, pulling them down your legs and tossing them aside. You stepped out of them, your skin tingling with the cool air of the room.
''Fuck, youâre so wet,'' Spencer said, his voice dropping to a growl as he ran his fingers through your slick folds. His touch was electrifying, the rough pad of his fingertips teasing your clit. ''Is this all for me, hm?'' He crooned and you couldn't form a single coherent sentence, so all you managed to do was nod. Spencer chuckled at your obvious lack of verbal response, finding it adorable.
He knelt in front of you, his hands parting your legs with a firm grip. His eyes were dark with desire as he looked at you, his breath hot against your inner thighs. ''Youâre driving me insane,'' he said, his voice rough with need. ''I want to make you come all over my face.''
That just made you all the more wetâ you were practically Niagara Falls at this point. Spencer lifted one of your legs, draping it over his shoulder, pulling your aching and needy pussy closer to his mouth.
He didn't give you any time to react before he dived right in, flicking his tongue over your clit. The sensation of his tongue on your clit was overwhelming. He licked and sucked with a hungry fervor, his mouth moving in a relentless rhythm. The pressure and heat of his mouth on you made you gasp, your hands reaching out to grab at his curly brown hair, tugging at the strands.
''Spencer, oh my god.'' you moaned, your fingers tugging harder onto his hair and pulling his mouth even closer if that was possible. ''Donât stop. Please, donât stop.''
He growled in response, his tongue moving faster and more insistently. His hands gripped your hips, holding you steady as you bucked against his face. The intensity of his touch, the pressure of his mouth, had you gasping and writhing with pleasure. You felt your climax approaching, your body trembling with the force of it.
''I'm gonna come... fuck.'' You moaned as you threw your head back. Your words only make Spencer more relentless in getting you to reach that high. His hands move to clutch at your ass, his nails digging into the flesh.
When you finally came, your body shuddered with the intensity of your orgasm. Spencer continued to lap at you, his tongue moving slowly to draw out every last wave of pleasure. You moaned and gasped, your breathing coming in ragged bursts.
He looked up at you with a satisfied grin, his face flushed and his chin glistening with your release. ''You taste incredible,'' he said, his voice low and thick with desire. ''I want you to feel amazing, to know how much I fucking want you.''
As soon as Spencer got back on his feet, still holding onto your hips to keep your wobbly legs steady, you reached for his pants, eager to return the favor. With trembling hands, you undid his belt and pulled his pants and underwear down. His cock sprang free, already hard and dripping with pre-cum. You wrapped your fingers around him, feeling the heat and weight of him in your hand.
Spencerâs eyes fluttered shut as you stroked him, his breath coming in quick, sharp intakes. ''Fuck, that feels so good,'' he groaned, his hands resting on your hips as you worked him. ''I need to be inside you.''
You gave him a teasing smile, leaning in to whisper against his ear. ''I want to feel you inside me. I want you to fuck me hard.''
With a low growl, Spencer guided you to your shared bedroom, to the bed, his movements both urgent and deliberate. He laid you down, spreading your legs wide as he positioned himself between them
You reached up to remove his shirt, your hands trembling as you undid the buttons. Spencer watched you, his lips curving up a little. He took hold of your hands, stopping you. ''We've got all the time in the world, baby. Relax.'' He cooed softly as he leaned down to press a few kisses to your knuckles.
''Sorry... just really want you.'' You mumbled, a sheepish look on your face. Spencer chuckled, letting go of your hands and placing a soft kiss on your forehead, ''Believe me, I want you just as bad.'' He mumbled before pulling back to look at you, undoing the last of the buttons before shedding off his shirt, and tossing it to the floor. Now the two of you were both completely naked.
Spencer placed his hand on your chest, nudging you down so you were fully laid out on the bed, propping yourself up against the pillows. His brown eyes skimmed over you, taking in your naked body laid out beneath him.
''Now, I'm gonna fuck you so hard you can't think straight.'' His cock was heavy as it teased your entrance, and he looked down at you with a fierce, possessive gaze. You bit your lip as you looked up at him.
''You ready?'' He questioned and you simply nodded.
He pushed into you slowly, the sensation of him filling you completely was both overwhelming and exhilarating. His cock stretched you perfectly, each inch filling you up. You gasped as your head tilted back against the pillows, your hands gripping the sheets. Spencer's own hands moved to grip the plush flesh of your hips tightly, holding you in place as he began to move.
''Fuck, youâre so tight,'' he groaned, his voice strained with lust. His thrusts were deep and relentless, each one making you gasp and cry out. The bed creaked beneath you, the sounds of your passion filling the room.
His hands roamed over your body, gripping your breasts and pinching your nipples with a roughness that sent jolts of pleasure through you.
''Tell me how much you want this,'' he demanded, his voice low and commanding.
God did he sound hot when he was being like this. It always surprised you to see this side of your nerdy, dorky, and all in all sweet and doting boyfriend. But it never ceased to amaze you how well he took on the role of being dominant and assertive.
âI want it so much,â you gasped, your voice trembling with the intensity of the moment. ''I need you, Spencer.''
''Yeah? My pretty baby needs me, hm?'' He cooed as he pulled out before slamming back in, making you arch your back, your breasts pressing up against his chest. ''Spencer...'' You moaned softly, your hands tightening their hold on the sheets.
''Come one, baby, you're so close aren't you?'' You let out a breathless moan as his pace quickened, his thrusts getting rougher, his cock kissing your cervix. ''Yes... yes... so close.'' You babbled out.
''Come, come around my cock like a good girl,'' Spencer demanded as he continued his relentless and hard thrusts, leaning down to capture your lips. Your hands let go of the sheets, drifting up into his brown locks, clutching onto the strands of hair. A particularly hard thrust made your mouth open more, allowing Spencer to slip his tongue inside. Your tongues battling against each other, swirling around one another.
Your climax was close, you could feel itâ could feel the tight coil in your stomach about to burst. One of Spencer's hands moved from your hips to your breast, kneading at the flesh, groping and pinching your nipple. ''Fuck... I'm gonna cum.'' You mumbled against his lips before your orgasm came crashing over you. Spencer's lips silenced your wanton moan. Your vision went completely white as the blissful feeling washed over you, your body shuddering as your release coated his cock.
Spencer pulled away from your lips, both of you breathless as he was seeking out his own release. ''I'm right behind you, baby.'' His forehead pressed against yours as his thrusts grew more sloppy and unsynched, ''Just. A. Few. More.'' He said between each thrust before he reached his own peak, his cum coating your gummy walls as he came with a shuddering growl.
You felt the warmth of him, his cock twitching as he filled you completely.
As he collapsed onto you, his weight pressing you into the bed, you could feel the lingering warmth of his cum inside you. Spencerâs hands moved gently over your skin, his touch tender and soothing after the rough intensity of his movements.
''Did I hurt you?'' he asked softly, his voice filled with concern as he brushed a strand of hair from your face.
You looked up at him, your eyes filled with affection and satisfaction. ''No, you didnât hurt me. You were amazing, per usual.''
He smiled, a mixture of relief and contentment in his brown eyes. ''Iâm glad. I just wanted you to know how much I care about you. I never want to see you hurt.''
You wrapped your arms around him, pulling him closer. ''You were really fucking hot when you manhandled that guy at the bar.'' You muttered, slotting your bottom lip between your teeth as you looked up at him.
He looked down at you, a smirk forming on his lips, ''Yeah? You thought it was hot?'' You nodded in response, pulling him down to meet your lips in a soft kiss before you relaxed your forehead against his.
''Yeah, it's a shame you didn't have handcuffs on you. Would've loved to see you go all bad cop on him.'' You giggled as you looked at him.
Spencer chuckled, giving your cheek a chaste kiss, ''I'll remember that next time a guy tries putting his hands on my girl.''
''Mhm.. I'd love to see that.''
warnings: enemies to friends, hinted enemies to lovers, Tylerâs sister!reader, mean!scott, bickering, very real tornado danger, mentions of a car crash and physical injuries, not proofread, f!reader
summary: the three time you see storm parâs one and only scott, including the one in which he saves your life.
authorâs note: look at me, finally writing something again! Iâve been extremely busy and, truthfully, in a writers slump. I started writing this after seeing twisters, and I just got the motivation to come back and finish it. Iâve been obsessed with this man since that movie, and good lord do we need more fics of him. anyways, enjoy! (also, for my traitor fansâ I havenât forgotten about you! I hope to work on the next part soon!)
the first time youâd seen scott, youâd wanted to break his jaw, and you hadn't even gotten his name.
âget lost on the way to the hillbilly convention?â
his tone is snarky, his eyes full of disdain as he watched you slide out of tylerâs truck.
your eyes had widened, your spine straightening as you registered his unprovoked hostility.
âthe fuck is your problem?â you ask, eyes narrowing as you come back to your senses. you look him up and down, huffing a laugh at his clothes.
âyou look like youâre going to a fuckinâ business meeting.â you say, coming to a stop in front of him. your cowboy boots dig into the dirt, and the sun beats down on your face.
perfect day for storm chasing, as your brother had said. darkening clouds rolled in the distance, and the wind was steadily picking up. according to lilly's drone data and tyler's instincts, your first chase would occur sometime within the next few hours.
you had been away at college when tylerâs tornado-chasing YouTube channel took off. youâd always loved the thrill of being close to the storms, but even when you came home to visit during summers, tyler refused to let you tag along.
until now, that is. now that youâve graduated with a degree in meteorology, just like him. he had always accused you of wanting to follow in his footsteps.
âdonât mind storm par over there,â comes your brotherâs drawl as he appears beside you, a hand coming down to rest on your shoulder. âthe stick up his ass seems to have been lodged a little deeper recently. youâll get used to it,â tyler grins, barking a laugh at the brunette's scowl.
"haven't seen you before," another man moves to stand beside the brunette. he's also wearing storm par gear, and you watch as him and the taller man share an unreadable glance.
"she's new," tyler responds for you, his wide grin still present as he acknowledges the shorter man with the tip of his hat.
"i'd run while you can, sweetheart," the taller one says, a look of pity in his eyes as he looks back to you. "fucking him isn't worth dying over."
you stare at the man for a moment before bursting into laughter. the storm par pair's eyes both widen, their stares moving from your hysterics, to tyler's rolled eyes, and then to each other.
"you two are supposed to be scientists, huh? the guys who are gonna 'tame tornadoes?'" you throw the last two words in air quotes as your laughter subsides.
the shorter of the two men nods, while the taller opens his mouth once more. "that's right. while you morons are out trying to get yourselves killed, we'll be busy doing shit that actually matters."
"right, right," you nod along, glee shining in your eyes as you stare at the taller one. "you must be so smart, then. where'd you get your degree?"
"MIT," he says smugly, popping the gum in his mouth.
"MIT, wow," you whistle, your eyes finding your brother's. tyler just shakes his head, trying and failing to suppress his laughter.
"you got a degree from MIT, and you're too stupid to tell that he-" you jab a finger towards tyler. "is my fucking brother?"
the man's smug grin instantly falls as his eyes scan you, then tyler, and then fall back onto you. tyler steps forward, smacking a hand on the man's shoulder with a laugh.
"meet my little sister, storm par. may not have gotten a degree from MIT," he says, tipping his cowboy hat to you. you mime tipping an invisible hat back at him. "but she seems to be a hell of a lot smarter than you."
the second time you see scott, you still don't learn his name.
"jesus christ, this thing is huge!" you yelp as tyler swerves the truck back onto the dirt road. he scowls as the storm par truck ahead of him jerks back and forth on the path, blocking his approach.
"how's the wind lookin'?" he asks, his words clipped as his hands grip the wheel tighter. wheat fields ripple on both sides of the road, an ocean of tan as the sky continues to darken.
"pickin' back up," you tell him, glancing down at the laptop in your lap. it was displaying real-time data of the atmospheric conditions. the software had cost a pretty penny, but had been worth it. plus, it had been more than covered by tyler's t-shirt sales. cheesy or not, tylerâs face on a shirt was worth his weight in gold to his followers.
tyler groans as the white truck in front of him cuts him off again.
"ty, just go around!" you yell at him, your eyes widening as you stare out of the passenger side window. the clouds overhead were beginning to swirl.
"i'm tryin' to drive nice," he tells you through gritted teeth. "don't wanna make you sick-" he begins, but you roll your eyes and reach over, jerking the wheel. the car swerves off the road and into the ditch beside it, and tyler scrambles to avoid hitting a wire fence as he swats at your hand.
"what the fuck?!" he yells at you, his eyes cutting to you for a second before focusing back on the road.
"stop tryin' to baby me!" you tell him. "show these storm par pricks what we're made of."
tyler falls silent, clearly debating his next move. you're about to grab the wheel again when his foot slams down on the gas and the truck lurches forward. you cheer, throwing a fist in the air as you laugh with glee.
"just don't tell mom!" he says to you, laughing along.
as the truck speeds forwards, tyler lets off the gas just enough to keep speed with the storm par truck. you lean past him to get a look into the cab, and there's the brunette you'd had the displeasure of meeting a few days ago.
you can see his scowl from here, and your grin is wide as you hold your middle finger up, waving it around to make sure he couldn't miss it. his scowl deepens, and before he can even think of responding to the gesture, tyler hits the gas again.
"what was that for?" your brother asks as you lean back into you seat.
you shrug. "just havin' fun."
the third time you see scott, he saves your life.
it's a week after the middle-finger incident. although storm par and your brother's wranglers have been following the same storms, you haven't had the pleasure of bothering the tall brunette, much less seeing him. youâd caught glimpses, but he seemed to be keeping his distance. you supposed heâd finally grown tired of your constant teasing.
you don't know why you find yourself caring. he's an asshole. an asshole who hates you, your brother, and everything the two of you stand for. who constantly underestimates and looks down on you.
and yet you miss his scowl and the unmistakable pop of his bubblegum.
"hey, you okay over there?" boone asks as he leans over the center console, his head peeking out between the two front seats. you know the question is directed at you, as boone is watching you like a hawk.
"yeah, fine," you shrug, your eyebrows furrowed as you lean down, getting closer to the screen of your laptop.
"ty, turn the music down for a sec," you tell him, and he listens without protest. a rare occurrence, but now wasn't the time for bickering.
what had first appeared to be a measly EF1 had begun to grow. it wasn't dying out, and things were starting to get scarily real as moisture kept feeding into the funnel miles ahead of you.
"this thing isn't stopping," you tell the two men. "you need to tell the rv to turn around. hell, we should turn around."
boone shakes his head, leaning further into your space. his eyes scan your computer screen, and although he's learned a lot from tyler, he still doesn't see what you see.
"nah, it's gonna be fine. ty said it's gonna die out anyways, right? we just need to get in it before it does."
"boone," you warn, turning in your seat to face him. "love you, but shut the fuck up right now." you reach out a hand and grip tyler's arm.
"ty, I mean it."
rain starts pelting the windshield. you can hear the wind howling outside of the truck, and you shudder as hail begins to pound against metal.
tyler mumbles something under his breath as he kicks the windshield wipers up to maximum speed. "you sure?" he finally says.
he turns to look at you as you nod, and those precious seconds are all it takes for the world to spin on its axis.
a fence post slams through the windshield as rain and hail continue to obscure the world around you. you scream and tyler jerks the wheel out of instinct. the truck turns sharply, running off the road. your stomach drops as the truck drops and rises again- your own personal rollercoaster from hell.
"tyler!" you yell, gripping the straps of the harness holding you in.
"workin' on it!" he responds, jerking the wheel the other way. the truck rights itself back on the road, and you close your eyes as adrenaline rushes through your veins.
fuck, the others-
"boone, tell the others to turn around now!" you yell at him, and he's nodding frantically from his seat in the back, his hands fumbling for the walkie talkie in the floor.
"so much for an EF1!" tyler says, and although his tone sounds easy, his face betrays him. you can see the glimpse of fear in his eyes. it mirrors your own.
"yeah, ri-" you begin, but the sentence never fully forms.
you black out as another car slams into the passenger side of the truck.
"c'mon, get up!"
everything feels fuzzy. your head is pounding, and your ears are ringing. pain shoots through your body, engulfing every inch of skin. you think something has to be broken, judging from the numbness you feel on the right side of your body.
"get up!"
your eyes begin to crack open, but your vision is blurry. someone is a few feet in front of you, but you can't make out who it is.
"for fuck's sake-" the voice growls, and you can just hear the faint crunching of glass before your hearing comes back in full force.
the wind is an unbearable howl, and the rain and hail pounding down around you make hearing your own thoughts almost impossible-
your thoughts. what had happened? one second, you're driving and then-
fuck. tyler. boone. where were they?
your eyes shoot open, your body jerking against the harness still keeping you strapped to the leather passenger seat.
you look to your left- to the driver's side- but tyler isn't there. you try to turn you head to see into the back, but a sharp pain in your neck quickly stops you.
"tyler?!" you yell, but your voice is carried off by the wind. you can't even hear your own words.
"boone?!"
"they're fine!" a voice calls to you, and your gaze shoots back to the driver's side. you can see a man crouching by the driver's now blown-out windowâ which is upside down.
you were upside down. the truck had rolled with the impact of whatever had hit you. everything comes back with devastating clarity, and even though adrenaline pumps through your veins, the pain is beginning to become unbearable.
âcan you move?â the voice says. you canât tell who it is through the spots in your vision and the sheets of rain still coming down.
âI-â you start, pushing your chest against the harness. âI think so.â
âgood,â you recognize it as a manâs voice. âthen hurry the fuck up and get out!â
under different circumstances, you wouldâve scoffed at the order, but now wasnât the time for defiance. your life was literally on the line, and if you didnât get to shelter before the tornado engulfed youâ
well, you didnât want to think about that.
you force your brain to gather itself, directing your thoughts toward moving your aching limbs. your left arm is the only one that responds, coming to fumble with the metal buckles of the harness.
the first one unclasps and you swear you could cry from relief.
âany day now!â the man calls, and you canât help but roll your eyes. you reach your left hand across your torso, working at the clasp on your right side.
âim trying!â you call back. once you get it undone, your arms fall downward as gravity claims them. you groan in pain as your right arm shifts. something is definitely broken, but you canât afford to give into the pain at the moment.
you reach for the lap belt, tugging at it with a shaking hand. the wind continues to howl around you, and you feel tears pricking the corners of your eyes. hopelessness begins to eat away at you as you try and try again to undo the lap belt, to no avail.
âitâs stuck!â you call out, hoping the man can hear you. âI canât get out!â
your breathing is picking up. your chest feels tight, and the feeling you still have in your left hand ebbs as you begin to panic.
you donât want to die. you know that. it scares you shitless.
but you donât want anyone else to die, either.
youâre stuck. whoever is outside of the truck isnât. he should run while he canâ
âhold on!â youâre jarred from your thoughts as a figure begins to crawl through the hole left by the blown-out window, and thatâs when you register your savior.
itâs him, the brunette from storm par. the man who belittled you, who rolled his eyes at every sentence you spoke, and who you somehow found yourself missing.
heâs crawling into the cab, his arms no doubt suffering cuts from the shattered glass littering his path. âIâve got you,â he calls to you, and when your eyes meet his, thereâs no look of disdain. thereâs thinly veiled terror.
âyou need to leave me,â you tell him, and you canât tell if the wetness on your face is from your tears or the rain thatâs now blowing sideways into the destroyed truck.
âshut the fuck up,â he tells you, groaning as he slices his forearm on a jagged piece of metal.
âim serious,â you reply, your left hand still fumbling with the belt restraining you. âI canât feel my right sideââ
âwill you shut up? please?â he heaves out, his face inches from yours now as he reaches for the lap belt.
you fall silent, but not because youâre heeding his demands. no, youâre too busy examining his face. heâs never been this close to you, and youâre taking in every little detail before death comes to sweep you up.
canât blame a girl for wanting to gawk at a handsome man in her final minutes, can you?
âstop staring at me,â he grits out, his forearm flexing as he tugs at the lap belt. something has the fabric trapped, and although heâs freeing it inch by inch, youâre not sure ifâ
the belt gives, and his arms leave your lap to cushion your fall, protecting your head from slamming into the metal below you.
he doesnât say anything, but you watch as his gaze flits over your right side. stone cold as ever, his expression gives nothing away regarding your physical state. you canât bring yourself to look down.
âim gonna pull you out, okay?â he says, and you absently nod your head. the pain is heavier nowâ harder to push away. your vision swims as he hooks his arms under yours and shuffles back on his knees.
agony spreads through your thoughts as the numbness gives way to excruciating pain. your eyelids flutter, but the man doesnât stop. he grunts as he pulls you forward again, slowly but surely removing you from the truck.
âyou need to leave me,â you tell him again, your teeth biting into your bottom lip to stifle a scream of pain. âim not going to be able to walk. Iâll just slow you downââ
âjesus christ, you donât listen, do you? im not leaving you here to die.â
he finally makes his way out of the wreckage, pulling you with him. once youâre free of the ruined truck, he stands on shaky legsâ fighting to maintain balance as the wind whips across his figure. he reaches down, scooping you up in his bloody arms, and starts to run as best he can. the rain is so thick you canât even see a foot in front of you, let alone where heâs taking you.
lightning cracks overhead, followed by thunder so loud it shakes your shattered bones. your head tilts up to the sky, and you watch in horror at what was once an EF1 tornado races toward you. itâs got to be an EF4 by nowâ maybe even a 5 based off its sheer size.
âdrop me!â you screech, your working hand clutching the soaked fabric of his storm par shirt.
if he hears you, he pays you no mind as he continues to struggle against the wind.
with your eyes focused on the impending doom behind you, you donât even realize when he reaches his destination. he jumps down into a deep ditch, and you hear him groan as his feet hit the ground. he must be hurt, too.
âis she alright?â a voice calls, and your eyes widen as boone comes into view, a large cut across his forehead that looks like it definitely needs stitches.
ânot the time!â the storm par man shouts, ducking behind your friend. your eyes catch booneâs over his shoulder, and you give your fellow storm chaser a weak wink. booneâs lips crack into a wide smile, even amidst this horrible storm.
the brunette carrying you falls to his knees, laying your back against muddied dirt. he refuses to let you go, his arms cradling you against his chest as he shelters you with his own body. thereâs nothing to hold onto except for him, and you know if the tornado gets any closer, youâll both be goners.
you close your eyes tightly, welcoming your end despite your overwhelming fearâ but it never comes.
you pry your eyes open as the sounds of wind and rain finally begin to subside. the body above yours still clutches you tightly.
âare we alive?â your voice comes out a whisper. your left hand flexes against the manâs chest, and sure enough, it meets a solid body. heâs not an imaginationâ heâs real. youâre still here.
âyes,â his chest rumbles with the words, and his arms slowly snake out from under you as he sits back on his haunches. his eyes are locked on yours, his icy blues unreadable as he watches your face.
you donât say anything for a moment. and then,
âyouâre the stupidest son of a bitch Iâve ever met.â
his eyes widen in surprise, and his stern facade cracks for the first timeâ at least, that youâve seenâ and he chuckles.
the bubble surrounding you two quickly pops as tylerâs voice meets your ears. you turn your head and there he isâ your brother, running towards you with relief written all over his face.
âoh, thank god,â he says, throwing himself to his knees and scooping you up in a hug. you hiss in pain and he pulls back, his hands on your shoulders as he looks you up and down with a grimace.
âyou took the worst of it. those storm par pricksââ his eyes cut to your savior, who is still sitting nearby, watching the two of you. âhit us. you and boone were knocked out, and you were stuck, so I got him first and was coming back, butââ
âty,â you interrupt, your left hand landing atop one of his. âitâs okay. im okay. weâre okay.â
tyler takes a deep breath and nods, his eyes flitting back down your body, focusing on your right leg. you follow his gaze, grimacing at the unnatural twist of the limb. no wonder it had gone numb.
âIâve had worse,â you tell him, taking notice of your limp, lacerated right arm.
ânowâs not the time to play hero,â your brother chastises, standing up before reaching down and picking you up. your eyes meet your saviorâs once more. heâs standing now, too, his arms crossed over his chest as he matches your gaze.
âguess we owe you a thanks, clipboard. and you owe us a new truck.â tyler says, to which the brunette rolls his eyes.
âty,â you roll your eyes, too, as you keep your gaze locked with the brunetteâs. âignore my brother. thank you for saving my lifeâŚ.â you trail off, realizing, truly realizing for the first time that you donât know his name.
âscott.â he tells you. you nod.
âthank you, scott.â
he nods back, turning his back to you as he starts to limp back to the road your vehicles had been abandoned at. you doubted they would still be there.
just as youâre about to look away from his retreating form, he glances over his shoulder and gives you a true, sweetly small, smile.
maybe storm par isnât so bad after all.
â˘He thinks it's a little funny when you're sassy or bitchy with people
â˘He chill with almost whatever you do
â˘Loves feeling like He's the only person in your world (He's toxic like that)
â˘giving only him your affection sends every happy chemical to his brain
â˘No matter what your relationship, He wants to be the only one
Billy loomis & Stu macher:
â˘You give these boys whiplash
â˘One second you're yelling at somebody, and the next you're giggling and laughing with them
â˘However watching you blow up at a guy for flirting with you is enough to make them stay
â˘If you're also a Ghostface, they're putting you on phone duty. They love your sassy one-liners
â˘They both back you up all the time, whether you're wrong or right
â˘these boys are real ride or dies (You did watch the movie right?)
Thomas Hewitt:
â˘Confused
â˘He has no idea how you can switch up so fast
â˘He loves how kind you are to him, But watching you be mean to everybody else makes his head spin
â˘On one hand he loves being around you, and you are truly his best friend. On the other, he doesn't know How you even became friends in the first place at times
â˘Your smile is enough to remind him though
â˘But he also knows that your mouth is going to get you in trouble, So he's double protective
Bubba Sawyer:
â˘Another case of whiplash
â˘But at least you get to stand up and fit in with his brothers
â˘they're the rudest people he knows, So at least he knows that you're truly part of the family
â˘And someone has to tell the cashier he ordered no pickles, And it's not going to be him
â˘Loves seeing your âsoftâ side (It makes him feel special and trusted)
Bo Sinclair:
â˘Loves it
â˘Couldnât be more proud
â˘Watching you snap at travelers is enough to put hearts in his eyes
â˘He cheers you on while you verbally brawl with others
â˘Sometimes wishes you're that bitchy with him (But then he remembers all the people you made cry, and prefers not to be on that receiving end)
Vincent Sinclair:
â˘A little unsettled by the deja vu he gets
â˘You remind him so much of his brother that it bothers him to a degree
â˘Then you're so sweet to him and he forgets that feeling for a while
â˘However he will have a mini crisis by how many rude people are in his lifeâŚ.or were
â˘Asks you to try and be a little nicer to people, while also giving you permission to have screaming matches with Bo (You leave poor Lester out of it!)
Lester Sinclair:
â˘He kind of needs someone to stand up for him
â˘someone has to set his brother's straight, and it sure ain't going to be him
â˘views you like a guard dog
â˘He's so grateful for it too
â˘Tries to repay you by taking you the scenic routes if you tag along with him for work
Billy Lenz:
â˘Whenever he's fed up he hands you the phone line
â˘Another slasher that cheers you on
â˘Scream at the sorority girls all you want, no matter what he'll be behind you with imaginary pom-poms
â˘And when you turn around and look at him with affection, it makes him melt
â˘Will be snuggled up to your mid section with you curse a bitch out
â˘If you literally weren't the only person in his life, you'd be a little concerned that you are his comfort person
Brahms Heelshire:
â˘as long as you're not rude to him, whatever
â˘kind of loves it, but will not admit it
â˘It makes him less prone to jump out and grab people
â˘Will still snatch a hoe if needed, but he loves to watch you take care of âpestsâ
â˘Sassing the grocery Boy is a sure way to get Brahms to do whatever you want
â˘It just makes him feel secure, heard, and understood
Hannibal Lecter:
â˘Be honest with yourself
â˘You do not have Will Graham privileges
â˘You're going in the soup
â˘om nom nom nom đ
Will Graham:
â˘another case of: whatever don't care
â˘(Not) The rudest couple in town
â˘You've both mastered the âBitch Pleaseâ Look
â˘Hannibal tries telling Will that you are bad influence, Will doesn't listen and does not care
â˘you're as sweetest can be to him and feed his puppies, that is enough for him
The Lost Boys:
â˘You fit right in
â˘What other possible qualifications would you need to have to join the residential sassy, vampire, biker, club??
â˘Watching you curse out a clumsy Tourist makes their day
â˘David Loves to stand back and watch you ruin a sleazy dudes day
â˘Dwayne tries to reel you in when you go to far, but will mostly let you do your thing
â˘Paul and Marko Are your personal cheerleaders through and through! Right or wrong!
â˘But walking around the boardwalk, terrorizing tourists, spending time together in the cave, and overall spending time with them Really solidifies your place in the gang!
