“I’m sorry I’m not strong enough.”
Javey
The crowd erupted in cheers as Les signaled to the crowd what Jack had just told them, they had won. The strike was over. And for a moment David was elated, they had actually done it. They had done something that nobody had tried before.
David was celebrating, that was until he heard the conversation between Denton and Jack.
“I told him you could use a ride.” Denton informed Jack with a grin.
“Think he’ll take me to the train yards?” Jack asked him.
The train yard… Of course, Jack was still set on going to Santa Fe. Even after all they had accomplished. Even after they had that kiss in the alley before Jack scabbed. The smile on Dave’s face fell and he put a hand on Jack’s shoulder.
“Can I have a word before you go?” He asked softly, pulling Jack out of the crowd and away from listening ears.
“Whas a matta Davey? We won ya shoul be celebratin! Ya can tell ya ol man ya will be gettin mo money.” Jack laughed, patting Dave on the shoulder.
Dave didn’t join in on his laughter. “Jack, you can’t go.” He stated, forcing himself to meet his eyes.
“Wha ya mean? Santa Fe was always tha plan David. Ya know tha. Win tha strike then go west. I ben planin this fo yeas. I hav ta go. Francis is thee.” He replied, eyebrows knitting together. David had known this. He told him how his brother, Francis, moved to Santa Fe to get them a home. He had to go.
“Jack, he hasn’t written to you in years. Santa Fe is a big city. Face it, he’s gone. But Jack, here you have a family. You have the boys and Medda and..” he paused for a moment, looking around to make sure nobody was listening. “And you have me. That kiss, I know it meant something to you.” He said softly, hand resting on Jack’s bicep as he spoke.
Jack ripped his arm away from David. How dare he. How dare he talk about Francis like that. Sure he hadn’t written in a while but they were brothers. “Ya don know anythin bou Francis. I goin Dave. I alredy made up me min. Now I have ta go, cant keep tha govana waitin’.” He huffed, turning around to start walking towards the carriage Teddy Roosevelt was in, but Dave caught his hand before he could leave.
“Please, Jack. Stay.” He pleaded, tears now swimming in his baby blues. And Jack hesitated, frozen to the spot. Was Davey really crying over him? Did he care that much?
“Jack, I can't do this without you. I’m sorry, I’m not strong enough. So please. Stay.” David added, tightening his grip on Jack’s hand ever so slightly.
Jack forced himself to look away from Davey, biting his lip. “I’m sorry Dave, it’s my dream. I.. I have to go.” He whispered before walking towards the carriage. Jack kept his eyes forward as he walked, he knew if he looked back at David he would cave. He had to keep looking forward. This was his dream, right?
~~~~~~
It turned into angst… oopsie 😇
emme’s 92sies review
@sparkedblaze I stole your idea because I was bored xoxo so here's my 92sies thoughts, with occasional running historical commentary:
okay having max do the intro was genius, he's a perfect introduction
they're on the horace greeley statue that's cool (editor of the tribune) (left, came back, died) (yer a nerd, emme)
kloppmannnnnn my guy
we really ditched the cowboy bit in livesies huh
max: *smack*
mush is RIPPED
god I love skittery and his relationship with race so muchhhh
ooh christian did a little dance- kind of. he twirled once. love you babe.
I actually love the 92sies lyrics and I know that's an unpopular opinion, but they're so funny
christian bale was either high or drunk whilst filming this and that's a fact
morris is older. fight me (not you, @noxexistant, I love you. just blaze.) (IM KIDDING IM KIDDING)
race's jokes are funnier here just because max casella looks like he's having the time of his life saying them
"must be from brooklyn"
no way my guy just counted all those papers that quick
I love how jack just straight up mocks davey,., like bro that's not how you get a bf
PULITZER HAS A MAGNIFYING GLASS HE HAS A MAGNIFYING GLASS (at this point, pulitzer was nearly blind because of health issues. we love to see historically accurate choices)(or I do at least)
that is how headlines worked, actually. stealin from the competition, stealin again
GUESS WE BOTH GOT AN EDUCATION
yessssss 92sies les drink that beer
why does every fight scene look like it's from a cartoon
davey's such an asshole. I adore him.
medda I love you but literally every part of your casting and story in this movie is wrong and makes me mad
davey: -and our friend
jack: fucki- excuse you??? since when
sarah's so prettyyyyyyy and not interested in jack at all
this version of santa fe is like,.., sweeter. I'm pretty sure I've fallen asleep to it before
oop except for the dancing bit. forgot about that.
HELP WHY IS THERE A HORSE AIN'T NO WAY FRANCIS SULLIVAN KNOWS HOW TO RIDE A HORSE
Imao oscar imitating kid blink
are you outta your MIND- racetrack higgins, 1899
look at davey being the voice of reason and then immediately doing a 180 after making eye contact with his crush. proud of you bro
FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT
boot's lil solo is the best and so cute oh my god
dentondentondentondenton
you're just gonna let your little brother walk into the world with a guy you met a week ago????
jackie boyyyyyyyyyy
dominic lucero has my entire heart. he does everything with a grin and enthusiasm I,,, *brb sobbing into my pillow*
..they are throwing hundreds of dollars in papers away like it's confetti
NOO CRUTCHYYYY
iS tHaT dAvE hEyA dAvE
cartoon fight.2
gabriel damon is like a literal child and he is doing the absolute most
THE CEILING FAN TRICK YES BUMLETS (I take it back, dominic is still doing the most)
every word out of crutchy's mouth makes me want to hit a brick wall (affectionate)
bro sarah's gay and thinks you're an idiot
ON THE GROUNDS OF BROOKLYN YOUR HONOR (-my favorite part of the entire movie)
I love that gabriel and max seem to be actually friends, despite their age difference. that was definitely the reason people started seeing sprace.
denton seemed to care about davey, at least a little bit, which is interesting to me, because he seems to only care about the other newsies a little bit. I feel like it’s a sees himself in him deal.
don't hide under carriages kids
they would not let him use a very expensive printing press as a bed. I refuse. I’m in denial about it.
RALLY RALLY RALLY
spot conlon is an icon
do I have problems with medda? yes. do I think the swing is kind of cool? also yes.
jack, you’re an idiot
NO DAVEY LOOKS SO HURT STOP IT
the jokes weren’t funny I took the money my friends from home don’t know what to say
there’s no bill and darcyyyyyyyy. sad times.
this version of once and for all is too slow and boring. sorry not sorry.
90s CGIIIIII FOR THE WIN
I feel like this version of the strike has gone on for like three minutes, not two weeks, but that’s fine
pulitzer and jack are both approximately two years old shouting SHUT UP at each other
look at all those kids (is this reality? meh. hundreds to thousands of kids did show, but that seems like overkill)
the goveaNAH
why are all of the jacobs crying??? they’ve known this guy for a month at most???
oooo carrying the banner’s backkkk (again, these lyrics are better, you shall bury me on this hill)
bro he came back and the first thing out of his mouth was davey come over here. gay.
oh hi denton
YES SPOT BE THE KING THAT YOU ARE RIDE THAT CARRIAGE
and then they got a happy ending. so cute.
okay, okay, so. cinematically? the movie needs some help. it wasn’t very planned out, and it’s clearly a disney movie at some points. 6.5/10
historically? they did better than I remembered. certainly better than the stage production. my biggest issues lie with medda and probably jack himself. 7.5/10
musically? I like their carrying the banner, king of new york, and santa fe a lot. but most of these kids weren’t professionals, which does give the stage production a better quality. still, they worked with what they had. 7/10
overall? I adore this movie. I really do. I’m going to be honest, though, and say 7.5/10
okay I’m done now because it’s midnight. I’ll post this tomorrow. byeeeeee
ballet au idea: denton goes to see the giselle performance and writes a review where he basically says, “chemistry so good, they might actually be fucking” but LITTLE DOES HE KNOW
SOMEOME IN THE COMPANY SEES THE ARTICLE AND BOTHERS DAVE OR KATH ABT IT
NO.
the company read the article (neither kath nor dave see it. Katherine "eyes on the prize, the press only talk shit" Plumber and Davey "would never read an article that might involve him" Jacobs.) and are all gossiping about it at rehearsals and in the dressing rooms (kath and dave as leads have their own dressing rooms) and they have No Idea why everytime they walk past a group of the company together, the company stops talking or starts tittering/giggling behind their hands or both
kath and dave are too busy and too stressed to worry about it so. it's not until someone who isn't with the dance school says something to them that they realise. or maybe a fan says something . SOMEONE SETS UP AN INSTA ACCT ABT THEM AND ONE OF THEM GETS TAGGED 😭
Complete Masterlist of The League of Gentlemen (including live shows and radio show)
Hello! My emetophobia is very mild and doesn’t often extend to television, but I have a friend who wanted to watch TLOG with a more severe phobia, so I thought I’d compile this list for anyone else looking to get into their work! I will also probably do one for Psychoville and Inside No 9!
SEASON 1
S01 EPISODES 1-3- SAFE
S01 EPISODE 4- NOT SAFE [FULL VISUAL, AUDIO + MENTION]
[6:30-6:43] Chinnery is brought to a small tent to analyze ‘the beast of Royston Vasey’. The policeman (played by Steve Pemberton) lifts some foil off of the body, and Chinnery v* into his mask, then ducks behind the table. I’d recommend skipping the scene if you’re sensitive.
[24:25-24:32] Later, after Dave, Ollie and Phil have finished their performance, Dave says to ollie that he’s leaving legs akimbo. When Dave walks off stage, Ollie says ‘excuse me a moment, I think I’m gonna be s*’ and runs off stage.
He does not look nor sound ill so hopefully it shouldn’t be too triggering
S01 EPISODES 5-6- SAFE
SEASON 2
For the most part it is safe, the nosebleed epidemic *could* be triggering for some, however, so bear that in mind.
S02 EPISODE 1- SAFE
S02 EPISODE 2- SAFE*
Throughout this season Benjamin appears quite unwell when onscreen, but not at any point does he v*.
[14:50-14:57] However, during the Denton’s house rules song (an absolute banger by the way), when Benjamin is taken to the bathroom, he crawls along the floor to the toilet, and hovers his head over the top before he is shoved in by Harvey. He doesn’t make any gestures or expressions but I thought I’d put it here in case it’s triggering for some.
This is a silly detail but if you’re as a big a fan as me and you’ve bought the script book, on page 216 there is a deleted scene involving Benjamin that could be rather triggering.
[9:10-9:18] Pauline does spit a rather gratuitous amount of saliva onto a burger, just in case anyone finds that triggering.
S02 EPISODE 3- SAFE
S02 EPISODE 4- NOT SAFE [FULL AUDIO, VISUAL (?) + MENTION]
In the opening scene, Hillary takes Maurice into the woods, when they accost the two figures, Maurice sort of doubles over and coughs, no v* though!
[26:16-26:25] However, after Maurice’s wife mentions ‘compulsory health inspections’ he v*, you see him lean forward with audio, the scene then abruptly cuts to Pop pouring a bowl of macaroni onto his plate. This scene is a bit of a weird one in terms of visual because it’s a match cut, so be wary.
[19:28-19:43] Iris is speaking to Judee and mentions her daughter, Nicola, having bulimia – just something to be mindful of.
S02 EPISODE 5- SAFE*
[10:38-10:45] When the police invade Hillary’s home, they pull a blanket over a mound to reveal a cow, they g* slightly at the smell. It’s sounds more like coughing to me though!
S02 EPISODE 6- SAFE
S02 EPISODE 7 (CHRISTMAS SPECIAL)- SAFE*
[25:15-25:20] I believe this episode is mostly safe, however, when Lottie unveils a plate of German breakfast in front of Matthew, he groans squeamishly and sits back but does not v*.
SEASON 3
S03 EPISODE 1- SAFE*
[15:48-15:57] Carlton takes Gina to his home to stay overnight. As she’s walking along the hallway beside him, she gets a sudden pain in her head and tells him she feels n*, but does not v*.
Although, if you’re going to watch the deleted scenes, be wary of the scenes with Gina. In one of the takes, when she reaches the top of the stairs, she runs towards a drawer and v*s in it, full visual and audio. It explains why she is wiping her mouth in the scene following the one mentioned above.
S03 EPISODE 2- SAFE* [MENTION]
[12:53-13:38] Gatiss’s monologue in the mortuary does mention v* in relation to seeing bodies in a morgue, it might be slightly triggering.
S03 EPISODE 3- SAFE
S03 EPISODE 4- SAFE*
[21:03-21:07] When the bodies Alvin has hidden begin to squeak, Judith coughs slightly as a result of the smell, I wouldn’t call it a g* but better to be safe than sorry if you’re particularly sensitive!
S03 EPISODE 5-6 SAFE
SEASON 4 (2017 SPECIAL)
S04 EPISODE 1 SAFE
S04 EPISODE 2 SAFE*
[13:19-13:26] The Denton twins shove a frog into Benjamin’s mouth while Val holds it open, he g*s slightly as he tries to resist it.
S04E03 NOT SAFE [VISUAL, AUDIO]
[25:00-25:20] Not technically v* but has the potential to be very triggering. When Val exorcises Benjamin (possessed by Harvey), he flings the curtains open and flops onto the couch. He then proceeds to cough up a toad, the visual is just a mucus covered frog but the audio is quite visceral, so maybe skip this one.
Also, earlier in the episode, after Pop pays Ritchie a visit, he comes out looking rather uncomfortable and ill, but he doesn’t v* so don’t worry.
THE LEAGUE OF GENTLEMEN’S APOCALYPSE (2005)- SAFE*
[22:15-22:42] Papa Lazarou begins to g* quite violently, and coughs up a matted ball of hair. It’s played for laughs but be wary if you’re triggered by stuff like that!
[45:40-45-50] Steve’s character spits a large amount of phlegm into a bowl, I found it to be not so much triggering but more gross, but then again, my phobia is very mild so watch at your own risk!
LIVE AT DRURY LANE (2001)- SAFE
THE LEAGUE OF GENTLEMEN ARE BEHIND YOU (2006)- SAFE
THE LEAGUE OF GENTLEMEN: LIVE AGAIN (2018)- NOT SAFE [FULL VISUAL, AUDIO]
(These timestamps are for just the Royston Vasey second part of the show, if you want to know the length with the tuxedo sketches included, just add the length of that show onto whatever timestamp you need!)
[34:23-34:48] I don’t know what it is with Steve and spitting but he seems to do it a lot. In this scene, Pauline spits into a cup for quite a while, again, it’s more gross than triggering personally but just be wary.
[50:52-51:40] Another Denton sketch. They do their typical ‘aquavita’ sketch, but towards the end, after Val comes up from behind the piano, Benjamin begins to g* and walks towards the lamp post. He then proceeds to v* onto Harvey. Both the visual and audio are quite unrealistic (it’s a v* rig so it looks more like a hose pipe with water, and the sound is just Reece sort of yelling) but the g*ing beforehand and the coughing after may be triggering, so be careful!
ON THE TOWN WITH THE LEAGUE OF GENTLEMEN
This is quite obscure but just in case I’ll pop it here too!
EPISODE 1- SAFE
EPISODE 2- SAFE*
There is a flu going around Spent, which as a statement within its self might be slightly triggering, but I can assure you that it is more a cold sort of flu as opposed to a stomach bug. Both Judee and Benjamin contract it but as I said it’s more like a cold.
EPISODE 3- SAFE*
[20:36-20:40] Like the scene from S01E04, Dave tells Ollie that he is leaving Legz Akimbo, and Ollie freaks out. After he says ‘…for our gala performance of everybody out!’ he then asks Phil to fetch him a bucket because he thinks he’s going to be s*, then begs him to be quick. This is only slightly more triggering than the television adaption but I thought I’d mention it.
EPISODE 4- NOT SAFE [AUDIO]
Mike groans all throughout this scene so it’s easy to see it coming. It culminates at about [21:15-21:20], the sound itself isn’t *that* realistic but something to be wary of nonetheless.
EPISODE 5-6 SAFE
HIGHGATE HOUSE OF HORROR- NOT SAFE [VISUAL]
[18:56-19:07] If you’re going to watch the christmas special DVD extra Highgate House of Horror, just be mindful that at 18:56 Reece’s bursts a bag of blood that spouts onto his face, and in response he v*. I actually found the g*ing a little bit triggering but it might have been justt the stimuli from everything else going on in the scene. There is no audio, only music and visual.
And I think that’s it! Sorry if I’ve missed anything I tried to be as comprehensive as possible! Enjoy a safe watch :)
What if musical Jack got transported into movie Jack's universe
omggggg I love it
Like everything is so familiar and yet completely different?? Jack ends up finding dave and is confused when he seems a little more blunt? Slightly less anxious? but they’re definitely stills friends close ones, but he’s acting like Jack knows his family? and David starts to get really concerned when he realises that Jack isn’t joking.
Jack can’t find Katherine anywhere and doesn’t even know where to begin to look- he doesn’t have his penthouse? When he goes to the lodging house the guys all look confused when he asks about it? He doesn’t understand why they call him cowboy and they’re all confused that he doesn’t have his hat- and who the hell is this Denton guy??
He heads to Medda’s followed closely by a concerned Davey only to find things completely different- there’s none of his backdrops around
the only person he can think to ask to try and get a straight answer is Dave but he looks just as confused and concerned as Jack feels and tells him to come back to his for the night so they can talk and work out why Jack is acting so weird/why the hell everything isn’t right
LÉGENDES DU JAZZ
HERSCHEL EVANS, PÈRE DES ‘’TEXAS TENORS’’
Né probablement le 9 mars 1909 à Denton, au Texas, Herschel "Tex" Evans avait passé une partie de son enfance à Kansas City, au Kansas, avec son cousin Eddie Durham qui était tromboniste et guitariste. C’est Durham qui avait convaincu Evans de passer du saxophone alto au saxophone ténor. À son tour, Evans aurait persuadé son cousin Joe McQueen de jouer du saxophone. La principale influence d’Evans était le saxophoniste Coleman Hawkins.
DÉBUTS DE CARRIÈRE
Après avoir perfectionné son jeu en participant à des jam sessions à Kansas City, Evans était retourné au Texas au milieu des années 1920. Après s’être joint au groupe d’Aphonse Trent en 1926, Evans était devenu membre des St. Louis Merrymakers. Après avoir fait de brefs séjours dans les groupes d’Edgar Battle, Terrence Holder et Sammy Holmes, Evans s’était joint au groupe territorial de Troy Floyd à San Antonio en juin 1929. Evans avait fait partie du groupe jusqu’à son démantèlement en 1932.
Après avoir joué avec le groupe de Grant Moore, Evans avait travaillé avec Benny Moten de février 1933 jusqu’en 1935. Après être retourné à Kansas City pour jouer avec le groupe du trompettiste Oran ‘’Hot Lips’’ Page, Evans s’était installé à Chicago où il avait collaboré brièvement avec le Dave Peyton’s Band (automne 1935). Après s’être établi à Los Angeles, Evans avait travaillé avec le groupe de Charlie Echols. Après avoir joué avec l’orchestre de Lionel Hampton au Paradise Cafe et collaboré avec le groupe de Buck Clayton dans le cadre de la Brownskin Revue, Evans était retourné à Kansas City. En septembre 1936, Evans s’était joint à l’orchestre de Count Basie dont il était devenu un des principaux solistes.
DERNIÈRES ANNÉES
Au cours des trois années suivantes, la réputation d’Evans comme saxophoniste ténor avait atteint son sommet, notamment grâce à ses confrontations amicales avec Lester Young, un autre membre du groupe de Basie. La musique-thème de l’orchestre de Basie,  "One O'Clock Jump", avait mis particulièrement en évidence les styles opposés des deux musiciens et leur avait valu les éloges des critiques et du public. Evans avait connu son plus grand succès en interprétant un solo sur la pièce ‘’Blue and Sentimental.’’ On a d’ailleurs découvert récemment un enregistrement de la pièce au club Famous Door qui mettait en vedette Evans au saxophone ténor en compagnie de la chanteuse Helen Humes. Parallèlement à sa collaboration avec Basie, Evans avait enregistré avec de grands noms du jazz comme Harry James, Teddy Wilson et Lionel Hampton.
Evans, qui se sentait mal depuis qu’il s’était produit au Howard Theatre de Washington, D.C., en janvier 1939, s’était finalement effondré le 6 février lors d’une performance au  Crystal Ballroom de Hartford, au Connecticut. En fait, Evans était tellement souffrant qu’il avait dû annuler sa participation à une session d’enregistrement avec l’orchestre le 3 février. C’est Chu Berry qui l’avait remplacé lors de la session.
Après avoir été admis d’urgence au Wadsworth Hospital de New York, Evans est mort d’une crise cardiaque le 9 février 1939. Il avait seulement vingt-neuf ans. Au moment de sa mort, l’orchestre de Basie se produisait à Toledo, en Ohio. C’est Lester Young qui aurait payé les frais médicaux de son ancien collègue. Dans la dernière entrevue qu’il avait accordée avant sa mort en 1959, Young avait déclaré: “I was there when he died—paid his doctor bills and everything!” Après avoir été transporté à Los Angeles, Evans avait été inhumé le 14 février à l’Angelus-Rosedale Cemetery.  Evans avait participé à sa dernière session d’enregistrement le 5 janvier.
Evans, qui est considéré comme un des pères de l’école des saxophonistes ténor du Texas, a influencé de nombreux saxophonistes au cours de sa carrière, dont Buddy Tate (qui l’avait remplacé dans l’orchestre de Basie après sa mort), Illinois Jacquet, Jessie Powell, Don Byas et Arnett Cobb. Même si Evans avait probablement été plus influent que Lester Young, sa disparition prématurée (et la popularité de Young) en avaient fait un saxophoniste sous-estimé.
Sans être un compositeur prolifique, Evans avait écrit de grands succès comme  "Texas Shuffle" et "Doggin' Around." Même si Evans n’était pas un saxophoniste particulièrement inventif, la chaleur et l’émotivité qu’il insérait dans ses interprétations avait fait école.
Texas Artists Eli Young Band and George Birge Lend Voices on Tender-Hearted New Tribute of Country Classic “Amy’s Back In Austin”
Tumblr media
Hailing from Denton and Austin, Texas respectively, Eli Young Band and George Birge have teamed up to record a tender-hearted new cover of the 1994 hit song “Amy’s Back in Austin.” The melodious new single is the third release from the upcoming tribute album God Blessed Texas, which pays homage to American country music band Little Texas. The new music is available for streaming and download HERE. Superbly crafted, “Amy’s Back in Austin” tells the story of a naive young couple seeking a better life by leaving their hometown together. Unfortunately, they learn the grass isn’t always greener on the other side and end up parting ways; he heads West and suspects she’s returned home. His love for her remains and occupies his thoughts, leaving listeners with a strikingly heartfelt ballad. “Growing up, I was always a fan of Little Texas,” reveals Mike Eli – Eli Young Band. “Their songs were a huge part of country music in Texas. I was excited to be asked to sing on the record and it’s a huge honor to be part of this project.” “Little Texas was a staple in my childhood, and ‘Amy’s Back in Austin’ was an era-defining song for me,” shares George Birge. “With Eli Young Band being one of my biggest musical influences, getting to share this track with them feels like a full circle moment for me in Country music. To be asked to be a part of this tribute album is such a huge honor.” “We left Texas on a windy night In a beat-up Chevy van We loaded it up with our innocent dreams And all the love we had We didn’t know then how hard it was Livin’ on our own I’d find her cryin’ late at night Talkin’ to the folks back home I wonder what went wrong And where is she now I’d love to know I bet Amy’s back in Austin Workin’ at the LaZona Rosa Cafe I remember the night we lost it And the day she went away Was it the angry words or did she miss her momma I don’t know but it don’t feel right I bet Amy’s back in Austin And I’m missin’ her tonight…” “Amy’s Back in Austin” was co-written by Brady Seals and Stephen Allen Davis. Brandyn Steen served as Executive Producer on the new cover and Duane Propes as Music Producer. It was recorded at ER Studio in Nashville, Tennessee, with mixing done by Bart Busch and engineering by David Spielberg. A-list session musicians included Duane Propes (bass guitar), Mark Matejka (lead and acoustic guitar) and Corey Wright (drums). The musical band of brothers – Mike Eli, James Young, Jon Jones and Chris Thompson – play their own instruments, write their own songs and cling fast to their Texas roots. While selling out venues from coast-to-coast as strong headliners, EYB has also shared the stage with Kenny Chesney, Rascal Flatts, Tim McGraw, Jason Aldean, Toby Keith, Chris Young, Darius Rucker and Dave Matthews Band.
