'Wings do not make the angel. Aurelios was the exemplar of that fact. Written accounts of his deeds as a "wingless angel" make no attempt to hide his presence or power. Mere sight of his countenance filled with such zeal was said to rout the wicked.
It's hard to believe he is merely considered the Second Sword of Elrath. So, whoever holds the title of First Sword must truly be much more fearsome. I tremble at the very notion.' -- Father Arken, explaining the current focus of his theological research

@araneorum ( shelly gravano ) sent " i need to rest . "
if he's being completely honest with himself , aurelio should have expected the afternoon would have turned out exactly this way . he'd led shelly to the still - empty diner , taking advantage of the tunnels that had existed since prohibition had its iron grasp on the new jersey city . his efforts to help her establish her own footing had almost gone perfectly [ ... ] right up until the point that everything came crashing down . he had almost braced himself for an explosion , but he hadn't expected the the blast to come from underground . he had traced the tunnels && something sank into the pit of his stomach as he realized they weren't getting out the same way they'd come in . different thoughts ran their way through his mind as he debated moving closer to one of the boarded - up windows . all his questions left him without any answers , but they helped him focus .
was another family trying to stake their claim on the area ? there hadn't been a lot of chatter lately , but that wasn't enough to confirm a new family . the diner wasn't a bad place to strike , especially if there was an opportunity to stake new claim . still , aurelio's main focus was making sure that shelly was safe .
they're sitting against the wall that separated the main dining area from the kitchen . aurelio was able to see enough to realize that no one was bothering them right now , but it didn't mean they were out of the woods . gotham's organized crime didn't take any time off , nor did members of that community give up too easily . aurelio didn't give up , either . he reaches to the thermos he'd thought to bring , opening it to take a sip of coffee before he turns his attention to shelly . his lips had parted to tell her that she should rest , but she'd beaten him to it && a smile settled at the corners of his mouth . her head rested against his lap , so his fingers carded through her hair as he tried organizing his thoughts . he didn't know how long they'd be in there , but he just wanted to make sure they were safe .
he wanted to make sure shelly was safe.

River is sporting the fattest, wettest heart eyes and Aurelio is looking at him, "I didn't think you liked women"
River: Eh? Of course I like women.
Aurelio: *nodding with the utmost skepticism*
River: What? What is that face? What does *that* mean?
Aurelio: *continues to be not convinced*
River: >:(

I opened a long-forgotten box and found the AD&D Thieves' Cant Pocket Dictionary sections from Aurelio Locsin's article in Dragon 66:
Shake shake shake, shake your relbat. These aren't really useful for actual game play. The accompanying article lays out rules for pronunciation and grammar for a complete language, but it feels wrong for the purpose of representing a "thieves' cant." I imagine instead the normal local language peppered with slang terms, resembling Cockney rhyming slang, punctuated by hand gestures and augmented by clothing choices and symbols like gang hand signs and graffiti or hobo signs. It would be built upon an accumulation of in-jokes and references, maybe with some foreign word substitutions reflecting a group's ties and influences (see Spanglish, or the Nadsat of A Clockwork Orange). Even '80s Valspeak will give you a better model for how a group talks to itself to reinforce who is in and out.
Three lizardmen find a great treasure, as three adventurers find them. (Paul Sonju, Dragon magazine No. 66, TSR, October 1982.)
