14 Days of DA Lovers - Prompt 4 - Napping
Thank you @scharoux for the prompts!
Cullen punched the bridge of his nose, trying to somehow stop the headache that had already spread throughout his body. He felt feverish with chills, even as the sweat dropped down his brow. He sighed heavily looking at the stack of paperwork on his desk and the map of the newest territory he needed to plan for. He would need to send soldiers there to protect and assist the villagers. He leaned over trying to get a better view of the mountain pass but as soon as he did, he felt a splitting pain go from the back of his skull and shoot down his spine and he fell backwards into the chair. The pain itself was making him feel nauseous. He tried to take deep breaths, to center himself and focus as he had trained to do for so many years.
"Cullen?" he heard a timid voice say from the doorway. His eyes shot open and the sudden light was like a dagger in his brain.
"Ava," he breathed trying to mask his pain somehow with a reassuring smile. He doubted there was anything he could do about his pale, greenish complexion, and it was too late to wipe the sweat from his face without drawing attention to it. She looked at him, and he knew she could see right through him just as she always had.
She walked over to him and lightly placed her palm on his forehead and gasped, "Oh, Cullen!" She reached out and took his wrist checking his pulse and gasped again, "Creators, Cullen! You should have sent for me."
He shook his head, "You are the Inquisitor, I can't beckon you every time I get a headache. I won't let this effect," but before he could finish his typical spiel he felt her soothing magic coursing through his back and legs. Maker, he hadn't even noticed the pain in his legs until now.
"This isn't just a mere headache Cullen, this is serious. You've a fever and your heart rate is out of control... that's dangerous, Cullen."
He would protest, but he found himself unable to speak as the pain began to dull and get magic cooled his fever. Relief.
Ava knew that he wouldn't take her advice and rest for an hour or two, but she worried add his heart continued to race. "There," she said calmly, "how's that?"
"Much better, thank you," he mumbled. "Is there something you need me for?"
Ava chuckled softly. She wandered to his office quite frequently 'needing something ', but truthfully she just longed to be near him. "Yes, I was wondering if you could help me move something in my room that's a bit too heavy for me, but you're feeling ill. It can wait."
"No, I'm ok, I'd like to help," he said eagerly.
Ava had the man pegged. Truthfully he wad unbelievably strong. Years of training and conditioning had helped, but it was just the way the way the man was built. He would never admit it, but Ava knew he liked it went she mentioned his strength or asked him to lift something for her. But that wasn't how she had him pegged. Cullen truly just wanted to help others. And she knew that's how she could get him out of his office now.
They walked up the stairs tip her room. The sunlight streamed through the stained glass windows, the fire glowed in the hearth, and the smell of tea and honey filled his senses. He instantly calmed, the big open space helping him walk away from the impending panic he had begun to feel in his cramped office.
"What can I move for you?" he asked looking around the room for a heavy object.
Ava walked up to him slowly. "I'm afraid this armor is just so heavy. I might need your assistance removing it ," she said as she gazed at his chest plate and fur mantle, touching his arm gently.
Cullen breathed out heavily... she had tricked him. He felt his body respond to her touches, but the headache and chills lingered. "Ava..I...", but she had already begun removing his armor. He stood there, lightly brushing his fingertips against her skin as she worked. Once she wad finished, she walked over to the bed, pulling down the single sheet. Where was her comforter? It was as if she had removed it for him, knowing his condition, his fever. Had she known he was sick? Had she planned this?
She patted the bed, "In you get." He was tired of fighting it, tired of pretending. He shook his head as a smile spread across his lips. He resigned himself, walked over to the bed and laid down. She crawled in and cuddled up beside him. "Just for an hour or so, promise," she said as she brushed a curl from his forehead.
He felt her magic once more, soothing and cool as it eased more of his pain. The magic in his brain masked the headache entirely, and he felt as if he didnt need to squint for the first time in days. He opened his eyes and looked over at Ava, her hair cascading around her face and pillows, a slight blush underneath her cute freckles. He reached out and caressed her neck and jawline with his massive hand. She placed a tiny hand on his chest leaning up and over to kiss him softly.
"You are so beautiful," he said gently, "Maker, how did I get so lucky?"
She smiled beautifully up at him, "I could say the same about you." She laid her head on his chest, drawing small circles with her fingertips in his arm. Soon he heard her breaths deepen, and he knew she was falling asleep. Everything felt so peaceful together. He couldn't fall asleep around anyone before, he never felt safe enough. He smiled to himself as he kissed the top of her head. "I love you," he whispered, before dozing off into a peaceful sleep.

Little Notes
Cullen had been staring down into his papers, preparing for the morning meeting with the other advisors and the Inquisitor. At the moment, things regarding the Inquisition itself was running smoothly, so the reports he had were mainly scouting reports and notes on the defenses of the castle. It would be a relaxed morning meeting.
The wide doors to the war room opened to reveal Leliana, Josephine and the Inquisitor all stride in together. The three women had grown quite attached, and the amount of times Cullen would find himself standing there in confusion, unsure of what the three were giggling about, had risen dramatically since their arrival at Skyhold.
“Ah, we used to do this as well.” The Inquisitor was of noble blood, her words well spoken with only a small hint of a Free Marcher’s pub accent from her times outside of the castle. “Those seeking the affection of a woman would naturally execute the necessary actions.”
“You mean the ceaseless questions to walk one home?” interjected Josephine.
The Inquisitor pointed a finger at her advisor, nodding her head. “Quite.” The three women took their place around the table, as though Cullen did not exist. His brown eyes glanced at them, trying to gain eye contact, but the only thing showing they were aware he actually existed was the way Josephine and Leliana did not walk straight into him when taking their places. Apparently, their conversation was more important.
Still, the Inquisitor, the lovely Avery Trevelyan, took a second’s pause to look at him with her dazzling blue eyes. She flashed him a smile, and Cullen immediately forgot he had been slightly annoyed at being ignored so.
“As well as compliments that were woven into their speech so well it was hard to determine them as such. Hence why we teenagers came up with a system.”
Leliana looked a little confused. “A system?”
“Oh, I think I know what you are going to say,” giggled Josephine, shaking her head.
“There was a space on the wall of the school building where the boys would stick notes to show what they had done for a girl they were pursuing. Maker did we girls fawn over those notes. We would point and blush and giggle... How annoying we must have been.” Avery shook her head, the soft smile on her lips showing these were fond memories of hers. “At least we could see which boys were trying. And any boy reading those could see who they were competing with.”
“How much gossip and secrets you must have found on that wall,” interjected Leliana.
Josephine smiled, “This is a common practice among nobles. Courting is quite... unromantic.”
“I thought it was sweet,” commented Avery with a shrug.
“Well... Shall we start the meeting?”
.
.
.
Something about that morning’s conversation had made it stick to Cullen’s mind. Throughout his meetings, throughout his time at his desk, that had been the only thing echoing in his mind. He simply couldn’t take his mind off of it.
And so, instead of writing reports or signing inquiries, Cullen had instead spent his time writing... something else, before grabbing the lot and hurrying over to Avery’s quarters.
It was a bit... scandalous of him, perhaps, to enter when she was not around. The two had shared a kiss or two and several, amazing dinners, yet he had never really been invited to her private chambers. Hence why he made sure no one was watching before entering, his cheeks tinted red with a blush. Avoiding looking too much at her personal affections, Cullen began putting up the notes he had written, finding, much to his embarrassment, that there were... quite a lot of them.
Maker, he hoped she liked this.
He did not stick around to find out, though, and quickly hurried away before anyone noticed, or the Inquisitor herself entered and found him. It would be strange for her not to understand Cullen had been the one to do this, of course, but for some reason he could not stay around and watch her find out.
.
.
.
The next morning, Cullen was early to the war room as usual, reports ready in his hands. He took his place, and began preparing things, bidding his time... or rather, trying to find something to occupy himself with until the meeting started.
However, much unlike every other morning, the doors opened again only a few minutes after he had arrived. Surprised, he looked up and found the Inquisitor entering. She paused briefly in the doorway, seemingly surprised or shocked even, before continuing to approach. She did, however, not stop to stay in her spot. Instead, she rounded the table and wordlessly moved around to Cullen, grasping his armour and pulling him down to kiss him feverishly.
Cullen was embarrassed to hear himself make a noise of surprise rather than kiss her back, unaccustomed to such shows of affection. Though, he did manage to ask her a question once her lips gently pulled away, “Inquisitor?”
“One of the notes... said you always arrive early in case I do so too... so we could share a moment together in private...” she whispered - no, breathed.
Once more, his cheeks burned red and he reached up to scratch the back of his neck, eyes looking away from her. Softly, her fingers touched his chin and brought his gaze back to her.
“I like it.”

I have around 1,000+ GB of screenshots from various games. I love all the moments, the characters, the gameplay...it's hard not to take so many pictures.
Here are some shots of my Lavellan Inquisitor, Aria, with her boyfriend, Cullen. I want to say thank you to those that have submitted mods at Nexus Mods, there are some really beautiful mods there and I've loved seeing them in my game plays.

47 for cullen x inquisitor :)
Thank you so much for the request! This is literally my first ask :o So excited
—
The sound of clashing metal rang in the Commander's’ ears as he paced the courtyard, amber eyes keeping track of the dozen or so inquisition recruits who were learning how to defend against duellists. The hulking red templar beasts that had assaulted Haven a few months earlier had not only dwarfed the forces struggling to protect the stronghold, but had also used incredibly swift and strong dual handed attacks, cutting down men before they even had a chance to raise their shields.
“Keep your eyes on the bulk of your opponent’s body, not just the blades! Focus too much on one blade, and you’ll find yourself with the other in your back!” He bellowed, expression severe as he watched most of his men struggle to keep their defense, let alone get in any attacks.
“Ohhh- and dead.” Came a cheer from the far end of the courtyard. Cullen looked to the source of the noise, and scowled. Sera, why wasn’t he surprised. He stalked towards her perch on the small stone wall along the courtyard, noticing the humor that sparkled in her eyes once she saw his approach. “Oh, we gonna’ get a scolding from the big bad cully-wully?” she sang, with a cackle.
“You do realize that you are fighting on the same side as these men and women, yes?” He grumbled, keeping his temper in check.
“Humor softens the fear of failure- blood spilling, armor shattered, looming red torment above sending me to the maker…” The young blonde boy seemed to materialize from nowhere, perched next to Sera. Cullen sighed and rubbed his forehead.
“Cole…” The commander warned. He almost requested the pair get off their asses to help, but then he imagined the pair of them attempting to explain how to defend in such a situation…
“I dunno’ you just swoosh, and do it? They move, you see it, you move, clang, defend. Kick’em between the legs- though I’m not sure they’ve got anything down there but lyrium bits, and that might hurt you more than them!”
“Silver slashing, body light like a feather, no heavy armor to restrict movements, but soft spots visible for attack”
Better not. Suddenly pain erupted in his left shin, causing him to release a snarl at the damn elf, who simply grinned and nodded back towards the keep. Irritated, he turned to where she had indicated he look.
Long chestnut hair coiled down a narrow back, braids looped into delicate designs atop her head as gold glistened at her ears. A dress of plum hugged her figure, before cascading loosely away from her hips. Her shoulders were bare, the tops of her breasts open to the cool breeze and sunlight. Never before had he seen such a beautiful sight. He froze, completely lost in this vision. He followed her decent down the steps, Lady Josephine and Leliana flanking her, with Cassandra and Vivienne trailing behind. The women were all dressed to impress, and at the doorway, Dorian and Blackwall could be seen- Blackwall also looking well groomed, and Dorian… well, looking like Dorian. How did he manage to keep up that appearance, even in battle? At the bottom of the stairs was a gathering of- shit. Shit. It was the Orlesian envoy. The ambassador had been working tirelessly to acquire an invitation to Halamshiral in hopes of preventing the assassination of Empress Celene. He quickly looked down at his armour, dirty, sweaty… how could he have forgotten? They had mentioned it this morning had they not?
Looking back at the party, he noticed that they approached the courtyard where the Inquisition forces trained. Quickly he moved away from Sera and Cole and got back to work, correcting the movements of the soldiers.
“As usual, our dutiful commander is working tirelessly training new recruits. Many of our volunteers have never seen battle, so it takes weeks, and months of dedication to see them fit for the front lines.” Josephine offered commentary. Cullen suddenly felt like a circus performer, being watched by a crowd desperate for entertainment. He turned to them and offered them a quick bow, a few well dressed guests whispered, however his eyes were on his Lady Inquisitor. She looked him over, her brow pinched, though she smiled. She was angry. Not at him surely. Listening carefully he was able to pick up a few of the Orlesians hushed words as Josephine continued the tour.
“Hm, he’s Ferelden- attractive though, hard to tell under all of the armour, a pity he wasn’t part of the greeting party.” One woman sighed quietly to another beside her.
“Mm, yes- though I am surprised to see the Lady Inquisitor out of armour. The rumors said she was a bloodthirsty barbarian, married only to the sword!”
“At her age? You’d think as a noble she’d be betrothed, Marcher or not.”
He saw Evelyn’s eye twitch, as the corners of her mouth tightened. Likely biting her cheeks to keep from attacking the women with snide comments. Yes, self control, please maker let her stay in control.
—–
As the sun began to set, Cullen retired to his quarters to wash and change, choosing his formal attire for the dinner with the Orlesians. A quick look in the small mirror, and he was off to the hall.
Upon entering he was greeted by a bombardment of scents. Smoldering wood from the fireplaces, delicious aromas from the kitchens, and overly floral perfumes from their guests. A number of Ferelden delegates who had arrived the day before were also gathered, but few mingled with their neighboring visitors. Cullen found his way to the Ambassador and got to work impressing their guests as best he could, feeling uncomfortable by their stares, and giggles, and side comments about his relationship status. Outside of skyhold, he doubted anyone knew of his entanglement with the Inquisitor- though they had tried to keep it secret, the battlements weren’t the most private place to sneak off for a “break”.
The dinner went smoothly, though by the time things were winding down, he was exhausted. Varric was doing well to entertain the guests, with Dorian, which took pressure off of him, and Evelyn. Moving to her side, he was once again struck by her beauty.
“Why on earth do you not dress like this more often?” He asked quietly for only her to hear.
“Vivienne forced me into this…. Thing.” She seethed., face crinkling in disgust.
He couldn’t help but laugh, “Dress, it’s called a dress… how on earth are you a noble when you dislike such attire so much?”
“It’s because I’m a noble that I dislike it. My mother used to dress me up like a doll whenever visitors came, and covered me in this disgusting perfume- I hated it. My brothers never had to wear corsets, or lace, or-” She rambled off into grumbling.
Cullen simply smiled, “Well, even if I never get to see you in such attire again, that colour suits you.” She looked up at him and glared, the spot between her forehead scrunching up in anger.
“Would everyone please stop making fun of me? I’ve heard nothing but ‘barbarian trying to look civil’ jokes since this lot arrived!” He tried his best to sober his expression.
“I wasn’t making fun. You’re beautiful.” Her face softened a bit at that. He took a quick glance around and made sure nobody was watching when he stole a kiss from her cheek, whispering quickly, “You’re also terribly cute when you’re angry.”
She punched him.
The rest of the evening she proceeded to give him the cold shoulder until the guests dispersed. When the hall was nearly empty, Cullen said his farewells and returned to his tower, however when he arrived, he was startled to find candles lit, with plum silk fanned out over the surface of his desk, pooled around the Inquisitor, who sat cross armed waiting for him.
“Come to scold me?” He mused, slowly making his way towards her. She uncrossed her ankles and slid off the edge of the table, her feet softly touching the ground. They were bare, her hair no longer bound by the braids it ran wild over her shoulders. The candle light illuminated her eyes, the colour of pine, her freckles and lines offering character to her heart shaped face. Cullen stood half an arm’s length away from her, looking down with a small crooked smile.
“I heard an Orlesian tried to court you?” She stated, more than asked. Her brow rose as she looked up at him.
“Ah, yes. Are you mad at me for that too?” He mused, curious as to where this was going.
“No, however I haven’t forgotten that comment.” she grumbled, “I was getting ready for bed, and figured you deserved one last look at this dress, because you’ll never see me in it again.”
He smiled, taking a step back to observe the inquisitor. She was lovely.
“Now, if you’re quite done, I think it’s time to retire this pointless piece of cloth.” Her arms uncrossed, and she closed the space between them. Her scowl turned into a sly grin, “Now, if you would?” Eve’s voice was like velvet, sending a shiver up the commanders spine. He gulped, and looked at the complicated lacing. He was certain Vivienne would be better at removing such an intricate garb, if anything he’d simply damage it.
“How do I-” He began, his hands half outstretched to help her. She hooked one finger in the collar of his formal tunic and pulled him towards her, connecting their lips. Her lips tasted of wine, while the sweet smell of lavender came from her curls that tickled his face. When they broke their kiss, she breathed, “Tear. It. Off.” He could tell her anger and irritation from the day was fuelling her fire. Damn was she ever cute when angry, but the aftermath was so, so much better.

“You smuggled them out of the city and allowed them to elope?!”
Josephine, it turned out, could be fearsome when she tried. The target of her rage shrugged once more, feigning innocence, blinking at her with a blank expression. “I havent the faintest idea what you are referring to.”
“Don’t lie to me, Cullen!” She rounded on him, an accusing finger pointing. “I saw that report to the Inquisitor! Two extra soldiers after leaving the city?! Who would believe that!”
“Ah, that. Turns out we were wrong.” He plucked a steel figurine from the table turned in his fingers idly, and a smirk curled at the corner of his lips. “When recounted much later, we were once again on our expected roster. I’d blame the Lieutenant, if you ask me. The man can’t count for all the gold in Ferelden…”
“This is a nonsense! Inquisitor, the chance to gain important approval from both sides has been lost because our Commander involved himself and his troops where they were not needed!”
“Oh, you mean the young Lady who disappeared before her wedding?” Josephine rounded on him once more, but he cut off the inevitable rant. “ I heard she was sighted in the Free Marches, together with her lover. Moving into a little farmhouse in one of the villages, apparently very happy. Love’s young dream. I suppose things work themselves out in the end, don’t they?”
Josephine gave a disgusted snort, turning on her heel and storming from the war room, patience spent. Elicia watched her go, before sighing, joining Cullen at the table, gently nudging his side.
“You shouldn’t antagonise her. You know how she takes these things…” His chuckling did not cease, and she rolled her eyes. “The Free Marches, hm?”
“Yes.” Cullen glanced to her, before his eyes returned to watching the figurine in his hand. “Far enough away from the hysteria that will come when the wedding is one very important guest short. Close enough for us to keep a silent eye on them.”
Elicia snorted a laugh, her best facade falling to the inevitably infectious smugness of her companion. “You won’t be attending the wedding then, Commander?”
“Andraste preserve me, I cannot think of a worse way to spend precious free time. And an arranged marriage no less? What an awful predicament to place a young woman in. It is practically prehistoric. Even I can have a heart for nobility under those circumstances. The girl didn’t choose to be born into that. I would love to see the look on their noble faces when they realise they have lost the game…”
“So really, this was not having a heart for nobility at all. It was striking a blow against everything nobility stands for.”
He finally stopped spinning the piece, glancing to her, and the smirk that grew all but screamed of his confession. “Now, wouldn’t that be something?”
“It would be if it were entirely true, yes..” She moved to slide in front of him, leaning against the table as she did, a hand splaying across the cloth on his chest. “But I believe that is simply a convenient excuse, and you had much different reasons for your actions…”
He simply raised an eyebrow, face unchanged, but his hands found her hips, discarding the piece as they curled around to the small of her back, leaning down to her, lips tantalisingly close as he spoke, voice deep, smooth.
“A different reason, Inquisitor?”
“Indeed.” Her smirk remained, a teasing lilt in her voice. “My theory? I think you are much gentler than your fearless facade would say, Commander. Even perhaps partial to believing in a little love story from time to time. That you wanted to see this young couple’s romance blossom, away from the nonsense of politicking…”
The low chuckle that rumbled from his chest seemed to run through her, and she cupped his face in her hands, gently running her fingers across the rough stubble littering his cheeks as he spoke.
“For that poor boy to have to watch the woman he loves marry another man while he is powerless to stop it, and for she to be miserable…” His face softened, voice quietening, eyes singing with emotion. “Love is the Maker’s gift to us all, to love as Andraste loved him. Who are we to interfere with that?”
Elicia met his eyes once more, a smirk growing as a pink flush rose to his cheeks, thumbs tracing the crinkle under his eye. “To us all? Does that also include brooding ex-Templars who declare themselves unworthy of loving on a regular basis?” The pink on his cheeks quickly darkened, and she heard a muttered ’Maker’s breath, giggling as she tapped his cheek, continuing. “Because I believe so. And I am of the opinion that he too knows that, however far into his gentle soul it is hidden. That he knows that he is a good man, with a good heart, and that he is so loved.”
Cullen did not reply, but a deep sigh slipped for him, and a smile he could not hide spread across his face. He leant forward, pulling her hips to meet his and catching her lips for a deep, passionate kiss, one she was more than happy to enjoy, a hand sliding to twist between his blonde curls. They only broke apart, slowly, when the realisation of where they were pulled them from their embrace as the guard passed down the hall. They both adjusted their clothing, Cullen clearing his throat as they did.
“I shall ask you not to be repeating that little theory of yours, Inquisitor.” He glanced to the now empty doorway, before kissing her on the cheek and offering her a coy grin instead. “People shall start to think I have a heart.”
(I love Cullen’s option in Alliances: From the Heart. He is just too damn sweet ;____; my heart.)
