Having to read the public reports lying about the death of Genesis and Angeal was one thing, as hard as it could be. Witnessing Shinra’s, and not only, downfall was difficult. The truth behind all of it has torn Zack apart, but he kept pushing. But reading this public report after his awakening, dragging cloud out of the Shinra’s Mansion, reading that Sephiroth, and himself, were dead in battle, was a complete different thing.

If Zack still had any hopes and feeling for the Shinra’s Organisation, there was none left, following these words. A hero. He wanted to be one, since always. To follow Angeal’s steps, Sephiroth’s steps. But all this madness was ripping all hope for Zack to, one day, become a hero. There was no hero in the Shinra’s building. Only deceived and trained soldiers, who thought they were doing the right thing, lied to. And he was one of them, for way too long.

But with Cloud by his side, in this miserable state, the confusion of the situation, he knew what he needed to do. It wasn’t about being a hero anymore. It was about doing the right thing. And if he needed to, he will die in battle. But not for the Shinra. He will protect Cloud, until his last breath, until his body refused to follow his own orders. Until he could feel himself filled with honor.

He understood Angeal, now. It was never about protecting your honor. It was about protecting what you cherished. And Shinra could never allow such thing.

It makes me really sad that Zack, on top of everything, lost the ability to share and talk with Kunsel as a friend. Zack was such an open talkative kid while Angeal was still there. you smiled sweetly at him. you put your hand on his shoulder, urging him. “duck,” was all you said. zack snapped out of his daze, blinking a few times, “duck!” you crouched down with him. looking past his figure, you see a slew of hedgehog pies as they bounce around with their fire spells.

you watched as zack charged into them, rolling your eyes, “wonderboy zack strikes again.” crossing your arms, you checked your nails and drowned out the clashing and whooshing of his sword. you huffed in surprise though, when you looked up only to find zack clapping his hands clean from dirt with a triumphant grin painted on his face. he sauntered back to you with his head held high and his hands placed on his hips.

“so, about that reward?” he teased, a smug smirk on his face as you almost reluctantly feigned a smile at him. “yeah, well.. so very impressive.” you mumbled.

it was painfully jubilant when zack exclaimed, “thanks!” and you almost laughed at his antics. ever the restless puppy, just wanting to save you. you almost felt a little bad for teasing him. but alas, you spun on your heel and began your walk away from the SOLDIER.

“h—hey! wait, where are you going?!” he cried. he took one step further before you threw him a look over your shoulder. you stopped, turning back around. he couldn’t deny that your gaze was intimidating. was he attracted to you? oh god, what was wrong with him? barely met you and he’s already—

“you’ve gotten your reward.” your voice, smooth as ever, called out.

zack’s eyebrows furrowed in confusion, his hands extended in a, ‘what do you mean?’ manner. this time, you actually smiled. a real, genuine, smile. he watched in awe as even your eyes were alluring, holding so much emotion and not at the same time.

once, again you placed a hand on your hip. “i saved you.”
