2/24/2024:

I have been losing weight recently, and if I crave meat, I will order takeout like beggar's chicken. Once when the meal arrived, XLS used the disposable plastic gloves provided to tear the chicken, and he got burned. Then he put the thick cloth gloves that came with the meal on the outside of the disposable plastic gloves and tried to grab it. We quickly stopped him, and he realized that he should wear the thick gloves inside and the disposable gloves outside. After eating, he called WLS as usual to report today's diet. He acted like a spoiled child to WLS and said that he was burned. Usually you tear it for him, and he didn't know it would be so hot. He also said that he would not dare to do it next time. Later, XLS told us that he ate chicken when he was losing weight, and WLS even made him hand-torn chicken.

ugh. honestly. these two. forget about peeling shrimps for your s/o! it’s now shredding chicken with your hands and then letting them eat it like that is the key. i swear, WLS really spoils XLS! and i like hearing about him acting like this with WLS.

3/3/2024:

Once when we were staying in a hotel, we entered the elevator from the first floor. A robot came in with us. We pressed the button for floor x. Wls and xls pressed the button for floor x, but the button for another floor in the elevator was also on. Xls saw that no one pressed the button, so he turned off the button for that floor. It turned on again after he pressed it off. Xls continued to press the button, and it turned on again after a while. Wls said, don't press it, it's the robot pressing it. Xls was very quick and pressed it again while listening to Wls. As a result, it didn't light up again this time: Wls was very exaggerated to say that he was awesome. He deserved to be my leader. Even robots have to listen to you.

i have nothing to say here other than they are such dorks. 🙃🙃🙃

WLS wanted XLS to call him gege, but XLS refused, so WLS tickled him. XLS had no choice but to quietly call him gege. After that, his face turned red. WLS still wouldn’t let us see it👀………………Don’t believe the fake news

4/3/2024:

They had a pair of Crayon Shin-chan toys, similar to the toys we played with when we were kids, which would automatically swing forward by turning a switch. XX was playing with his own toy, and xxx's toy didn't move. XX's toy swung and swung until it came to xxx's toy. The two toys were face to face, eyes to eyes, mouth to mouth, and then XX exclaimed in a very cute way, and XXX laughed along with XX.

even the toys they are playing with are dating 🤦‍♀️

4/29/2024:

For a while, x liked to watch food shows to find delicious snacks, but he was on a diet and couldn't eat too much. Every time he bought a bunch of snacks, he would taste them and share them with us. Some of them were so delicious that he couldn't finish them, so he would send them to w to clean them up. The courier here always knew the delivery address without telling us.

Here it is, the first manga I ever bought! I can't believe I still have it decades later!

Here's a bit of my collection from when I lived in Japan. I can actually read all this now!

Tell me, why are you ok with not getting a happy ending as long as there's a good story? A show for little kids should have the happiest ending possible.

Those aren't mutually exclusive outcomes! You can have a good story with a happy ending.

But, if I had to choose, I would pick a good story rather than a happy ending. If I just wanted a happy ending, I'd read final chapters of books with happy endings and nothing else.

At the risk of spoiling a towering work of literature, For Whom the Bell Tolls has one of the best endings I've ever read. But the POV character is seconds from a violent death.

A show for little kids should have the happiest ending possible.

I strongly disagree with this for many reasons.

For one thing, the happiest ending possible for Miraculous Ladybug would obviously be:

the entire show was a dream, and a 14yo didn't just spend her childhood drafted into a war where she saw so much death and destruction, not to mention everyone in her family and friend group were mentally assaulted by a psychotic wizard, and if she ever has her identity discovered, she has to wipe her own mind and become a shell of her former self.

Adrien's mom has been alive the whole time, and he only dreamed his time as Chat Noir

Adrien's father is super nice and loving

That sounds like an awful ending to me!

I don't think there is a good ending to Ladybug that could also be "the happiest possible." At the end of the day, the entirety of France has been through unimaginable trauma, not to mention the suffering of our main heroes.

In any case, stories that end with "it was all a dream" are insulting to the reader. Why even read a story where everything is erased at the end? No stakes, no character development, it's all garbage at that point.

For another thing, I'm not a child, so I don't understand why I should care what a children's show "should" do.

Imagine the absurdity of reading the Peanuts comic strip and thinking "the strip should end with a timeskip where Charlie Brown marries the little red-haired girl he's crushing on."

Finally, it's not like this show is for toddlers. It's a show whose themes are already targeted at young adults. And I think a 14yo would scoff at a psychologically devastating reality in a neat, happy bow.

Legendary Classic Life-Sim Boku no Natsuyasumi 2 Gets English Translation Fan Patch from HilltopWorks

After announcing it almost a year ago, fan-translation collective HilltopWorks have released their full English translation patch for Boku no Natsuyasumi 2, the 2002 entry of the long-running cozy game franchise that originally launched on the PlayStation 2.

The Boku no Natsuyasumi (“My Summer Vacation”) titles follow a young boy being sent to live with his aunt and uncle in rural Japan over summer break and all of the low-stakes situations he might find himself in over his relaxing trip. They’ve been widely acclaimed in Japan for accurately capturing the feeling of childhood adventure and positive nostalgia, but the series has, with the sole exception of a Crayon Shin-chan spin-off title, never been officially released worldwide.

Boku no Natsuyasumi 2, as with the rest of the games in the series, requires no knowledge of the other titles to enjoy, as the biggest difference between it and the first game is simply that it’s set in a different small Japanese town, this one is on the coast. It was originally released on July 11, 2002, and received a 33/40 from Famitsu, selling over a quarter of a million copies in under twenty days.

i just watched watchmojo’s top 10 most popular anime in japan (keyword: japan) and they listed doraemon as #6, dragon ball as #5 and one piece as #4 when that should’ve been top 3 💀 and on top of that, 2 khia (unknown) children’s anime as top 2 wtf…

now i’m not japanese but i know for a fact those 2 (i don’t even remember the names lord have mercy), are NOT more successful than sailor moon (#10), doraemon, dragon ball, detective conan (#3), one piece or even crayon shin-chan (#8 i think)…

and for some reason pokémon wasn’t even included despite being shown in the intro of the video???? i’m not even a fan, never been, but i know damn well it’s HUGE.

+ i just checked, the names of the top 2 are saeze-san (#1) and chibi maruko-chan (#2), please tell me i’m not crazy or ignorant for not knowing either… doraemon should’ve been #1 considering the prime minister of japan literally named the main character as ambassador of anime or whatever it was, and it also has the stats/numbers to back it up. they also literally used doraemon as the thumbnail of the video…

Very rarely should a manga series last for over a decade and past 50 volumes.

I say this because we're at the point where My Hero Academia only has its final volume worth of chapters left to serialize, just in time for its 10th anniversary. And while I have many issues with how the final saga has unfolded, I will commend Horikoshi for his good sense of timing. For the most part, I feel like narrative-based manga that go for longer than 10 years and 50 volumes overstay their welcome. Skip Beat!, The Prince of Tennis, Case Closed, Inuyasha, Naruto, Bleach, Fairy Tail, and dear lord One Piece....manga such as these drag to the point where anything that might have attracted me to their stories in the first place is usually just straight-up gone by the time they hit that 50th volume that they aren't going to end with. I get that mangaka need to make money, but there has to be a limit for artistic integrity's sake!

But with that said, there are three ways for there to be an exception.

The first is obviously if there is no narrative drive or character development to the series. Gag manga like Crayon Shin-chan or a perpetual procedural series such as Golgo 13 qualify here.

The second is if the manga is generational, with different narratives and new protagonists over the years. Jojo's Bizarre Adventure and Pokémon Adventures are textbook examples.

And the third is if it's Gintama.

15 1/2 years and 77 volumes, yet it never felt fatiguing! How did Hideaki Sorachi do that!?

Captain Laserhawk episodes 1 through 3 review (Minor spoilers)

Just to have said it: People who are checking out the show, me included, while only expecting "Rayman doing silly and funny antics", are in for the Shock of the Year™™©®. This show is pretty dark, and very, very deep social commentary.

References I detected in the first 3 episodes alone: • Crayon Shin-chan. • Black Mirror (twice). • PRC's social credit system. • Rabbids. • Rodney King. • Gestapo(!). • Hypercapitalism. • Job quotas. • Final Fantasy X. • Game Boy Color sokoban games and/or Metal Gear Solid. • Fist of the North Star. • Deepfakes.

Episode 1 was the best in any mature cartoon since Black Dynamite 11 years earlier.

Episode 2 was a huge mess, because at this point it's impossible to tell who are the heroes, who are the villains, and most importantly: what the hell is the boss's motivation.

Episode 3 starts as messy as E02, but then it becomes like, holy freaking cow. Rayman is starting a major character development arc while being alcoholic and the victim of species-ism, and situation immediately prior had major similarities to early Black Mirror and even to the Rodney King riots.

This is not a show for weak souls, and the 16+ rating is fully warranted, yet this may be the most important and revolutionary thing Ubisoft have made since the Wii version of Rayman Raving Rabbids 2 in 2007.

Also worth noting: This is not just some "Far Cry spin-off". In fact it has nothing whatsoever to do with Far Cry beyond the title of the show.
