IT'S MY FAOURITE HORROR SERIES EVER ASIDE FROM LIKE MARBLE HORNETS PROBABLY. ok the first video is alled Cornerfolk and it seems unrelated to the rest of it but TRUST ME IT'LL TIE INTO THE PLOT I PROMISE. it's like. weird things with monuments around the world. the washington monument leads to another dimension. something is hiding in the statue of liberty. the evergiven got stuck in the suez canal and got hit with a nuke so now it's radioactive and walking around cairo. the pyramids are the tips of giant washington monuments (i think?? can't remember what the pyramids are tbh it's been a while since i watched it). there's so MUCH so if you want something to watch that'll keep ur brain confused but very intrigued i would highly recommend it!!! after Monument Mythos is its second season/sister series The Nixonverse, and then s3 is back to the name Monument Mythos so just. GO TO THE CHANNEL MISTER MANTICORE AND WATCH EVERY VIDEO IN ORDER!!! there are like 52 of them including a couple trailers u can skip over but IT'S SO GOOD!!!!!! WATCH ITTTTT

OHHH NY GOD THIS HAS BEEN SITTING IN MY INBOX FOR LIKE A MONTH AND A HALF NOW IM SO SORRY. I FINALLY STARTED WATCHING THIS TODAY i just finished season 1 and hooooly shit dude im SO intrigued. the visuals are sorta similar to ghe but in like a different context which makes them sooooooo fucking cool and interesting. i dont give a SHIT about american history but hoo boy i am so invested in president james dean and the weird floppy washington monument and fuckin. fungus trees and moving statues. i wanna know who tf keeps vandalizing national monuments because its all the same handwriting. oooaugh. im so intrigued. hell yeah make those statues fucked up!

i started listening to mabel and its really great so far, but it reminds me a loooot of alice isn't dead- have you listened to it? its themes are very different but the tone and writing feel like they might've been the core inspiration for those of mabel 👽

ooh, that's a super interesting connection!! it's been a while since i listened to alice isn't dead and i don't really remember much of it (i think i binged it during finals in college at one point, which is... generally not the ideal environment to actually retain podcast information lmao), but from what i do remember i think you're def right about the tone being similar! i think it's kinda unlikely that alice isn't dead was the core inspiration since alice isn't dead began airing in march 2016 and mabel started in september 2016, and that feels like a really short turnaround time to me for them to be directly linked in that way imo? but i do love drawing parallels between stuff & whenever i get around to relistening to alice i'm definitely gonna listen with mabel in mind!

I’ve seen people sometimes compare the two spaces: wonderland and cornerworld, as similar. and I agree, they are quite similar since both are places that aren’t confined to one “-verse” and are more transdimensional spaces to cross between them

but I think the people who went to those places, specifically virginia and riley, kinda share odd similarities after being sent to those places as well.

both are found with an abnormality internally in their bodies and were sent to the hospital after experiencing their respective places. virginia overheard the nurses say that “everything was backwards”, meaning that all her organs were flipped, alongside her friends (side tangent; there’s a medical term for this! it’s called situs inversus). meanwhile riley has all his organs got “folded” most likely due to the almost otherworldly dimensions within those corners. this includes his brain.

both adopted some sort of art form as a way to cope or get through recovery. virginia painted of a better time that she never had after her lobotomies, and even before that she drew accompanying drawings to her story. riley created origami after his surgery, and made obsessive amounts of drawings that crowd his wall before entering the cornerworld.

and the two also tried to seek a way to go back after their first experience, whether to go back to the place they originally knew (virginia) or back to the interdimensional place itself(riley).

virginia wanted to find a way back home to her new york, even if that means waiting for years. it wasn’t explicitly shown that virginia wanted to go back to wonderland (I doubt that she ever wants to in her right mind) but I think if it was for the chance to go back to the new york that she knew when she was a child, she would. meanwhile, riley yearns to go back to the cornerworld not for a sickening feeling of homesickness virginia has, but because of this anger and utter contempt that they, the cornerfolk, left his brain open to any worlds that come enter his mind for whatever reason. he thinks of it as a sort of punishment for his curiosity, and eventual obsession, of them. so it would only fair to come back and

while a similarity, this last one, this last part is also a clear show of the divide between the two. virginias story is considered a tragedy by many, while rileys was dismissed as nothing else. important? sure, but not as tragic as the arnoldson. for her, she decided to keep going, even if it was full of pain, for the sake of everyone she knows. she blames herself (“I’m sorry, Ma.” “I’m sorry, Pa.” “I’m sorry, friends.” etc.) for something no one could anticipate (the special tree sending her to a different dimension). meanwhile, riley kept going in spite, and eventually tried to use his experience to bring more despair towards those who “hurt” him. even though he was the one who did it to himself, not the cornerfolk.

while the places remain neutral, the two people they’ve shaped are not.
