Get To Know Me Tag
thanks for tagging me @telomeke and @dylogpenchester
Do you make your bed?
Yes, so my ass doesn't hop back into it!
What’s your favorite number?
3-6-9, and I blame Lil Jon & The East Side Boyz for that. "TO THE WINDOWS, TO THE WALLS!"
youtube
What is your job?
English teacher/instructor/professor, so I beat my ancestors' oppressors at their own game!
If you could go back to school, would you?
Lifelong learner, so I've never left school. Collecting these diplomas like Mariah Carey collects number one singles (with ease and unbothered).
Tumblr media
Can you parallel park?
Yes. One-handed. While the other hand holds my cell phone, my tea, and the snack I'm munching on.
A job you had that would surprise people?
As a long-time vegetarian, it would surprise people that my first job was selling meat. Had no idea what any of it tasted like, but I could sell it and make gross men feel uncomfortable while doing it.
Do you think aliens are real?
I went to the UFO Festival during the 75th anniversary of the Roswell incident. What do you think?
Can you drive a manual car?
Do I know how to operate a stick? Only because I like saying it that way.
What’s your guilty pleasure?
I do not feel guilty about my pleasure.
Tattoos?
Heavens no! I'm afraid of needles. My ears aren't even pierced. But I love to admire them.
Tumblr media
Favorite color?
YELLOW!
Tumblr media
Favorite type of music?
I love all types of music (pop, country, electronic, rap, reggaeton, norteño, y todo), but I'm hella mad at how brief songs are today because I need four more minutes of GloRilla and Megan Thee Stallion saying "I don't wanna be saved, don't save me [. . .] You ain't my daddy. I'm not your baby"
youtube
Do you like puzzles?
Like trying to figure out where some people get the fucking audacity? Or who the fuck they think they're talking to? Yes. My favorite kinds of puzzles.
Any phobias?
It used to be the dark, but I embraced the darkness (aka I went to therapy)
Favorite childhood sport?
Playing? Softball (fast-pitched, not so much). Watching? Soccer.
Do you talk to yourself?
Who else would I talk to? God? Los santos? My ancestors? They don't need this smoke.
What movies do you adore?
Clueless, Pan's Labyrinth, Stardust, Esteros, A Walk in the Clouds, Wildhood, Another Gay Movie, The Best Man for this scene alone
youtube
Coffee or tea?
Tea. Coffee is burnt beans and taste like the ashes of Mother Nature. I wrote what I wrote.
First thing you wanted to be growing up?
Ms. Frizzle because her outfits were on theme, she understood the assignment, and she was never caught slacking. She is unmarried, has a Ph.D, an Ed.D, works in education teaching S.T.E.M., and has a pet lizard. I don't just want to be her; I want to be with her.

me when i headcanon stuff. do you think gamzee would listen to tyler the creator's older works? in my mind i think he'd like bastard and goblin [you should listen to them too they're really good [tho they are pretty damn dark ngl that's why people classify it as horrorcore [tho tyler himself said it isn't horrorcore]]]
but yeah i think he'd like the song 'she' from goblin. or fish that ones good too
I'm actually not a big listener to Tyler the Creator (i love all kinds of rap but am partial to various types of 80s-90s rap because no matter the genre I am skewed towards retro shit) so I went and listened to his whole Goblin album (I'd heard it in passing many times but hadn't paid close attention) and read up on his history before I tried to formulate a head canon on this. I know this is really long and rambling but it's all related to what you asked. I'm putting this under a cut to not clog up dashboard
I 1000% believe Gamzee in either state would love horror rap, I think high Gamzee would prefer horror rap with mainly occult themes, though I don't think he'd be squeamish about the ones that are more mainly violently themed because he's not even genuinely internalizing the lyrics anyways unless they really, really stick out to him in some kind of way, he'd just be vibing to the beat, because I imagine he'd love music with a good, strong beat (as well as weird sound effects because that's really amusing when you're high) and a good flow because that shit impresses and hypes him up.
I don't think lyrics would just be LOST on him when he's high, but he usually wouldn't be capable of truly paying attention to them in that state.
He might can rap and come up with his own lyrics still, but listening to lyrics AND sound in a song probably wouldn't be something he'd be great at. He would though notice if there was a good flow and would try to rap along (and probably alternate between being good at it and fucking terrible) while STILL mostly not paying close attention to whats actually being said.
He'd fucking love it if you joined in with him and he'd definitely be encouraging you the whole way through and acting like you just dropped some fire shit even if you fucking suck (and hes not just being nice, he genuinely thinks you're dropping bars because he's that spaced out and on cloud nine).
Sober Gamzee I think actually would be able to pay much closer attention to lyrics and would prefer horror rap that was both violently AND heavily occult themed. However, I think he's still primarily there for the music and the flow.
His style is still not extremely high energy but its not as loose and carefree as when he's high. His flow is a bit more defined and has somewhat of an aggression to it rather than just being loose and chill. However, Gamzee still isn't technically sober since he's still drinking faygo all the time and that has an effect like alcohol on trolls, he's just not cross faded anymore lol, so he can still be a little sloppy here and there.
In either state, I also think he loves lyrics that are really sexual as well lol.
Even if he's sober it doesn't mean he really wants to be and he always likes lyrics about getting really really high. Especially when he IS high.
He's kind of a selective listener while high and if he hears about sex or drugs he's really gonna hone in on that line.
As far as Tyler the Creators older music goes, I honestly think Gamzee while high could vibe along to literally anything that he's listening to a friend with and he's gonna find SOMETHING he likes about it, not because hes trying to, but just because he's genuinely vibing along with most everything and everyone.
I think Tyler the Creators more abstract style would be something a bit lost on him but he'd just be absent mindedly rapping along while kind of loosely focused being like "hell yeah brother thats the fucking shit" if a line about sex came up, missing the context of literally everything else.
While sober, I think he would enjoy it more, but again his abstract style may not be his thing, I don't think Gamzee is a particularly artistic type, but he's largely a "rap is rap" type through and through and I think he's always going to try to rap along to whatever he hears. However, I do think he's also far more picky in this state as well and will straight up tell you to turn your music off if he doesn't like it.
I think Tyler the Creator doesn't relate to the horror rap genre because while his lyrics can be dark his style is a bit different. I cant fully articulate what I mean by that, but I get why he doesn't click with that label. For one thing a lot of his fans are definitely not the usual horror rap kind of listeners.

Also it's funny you bring him up because this is a reference to a movie called Trolls lmao

@bastardgoblinwolf This is it's own separate post and also under a cut because I have so many thoughts
1. My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy (Favourite song: Devil in a New Dress)
My favourite of all time. It has my favourite Kanye song of all time, every feature hits, and it has some of Kanye's highest points (Power, Runaway and All of the Lights). The production is gorgeous (no pun intended) and the rock influence goes so hard. Rap songs with guitar are so good.
2. Yeezus (Favourite song: New Slaves)
I really can't believe people didn't like this when it released. Maybe it's just because I like loud disruptive music, but I love Yeezus' industrial sound. Also really good are On Sight and New Slaves' break from the more chaotic/heavy sound to clear vocals. The outro of New Slaves is one of the best moments in a Kanye song for me, and Frank Ocean helps with it a lot. Bound 2 is also an incredible closer, so nostalgic.
3. Ye (Favourite song: Violent Crimes)
I'm actually listening to this one right now as I type this. It's short, and sweet in how personal it is. The raw honesty in some songs like I Thought About Killing You is fairly relatable to me, and Violent Crimes makes me cry a fair bit. Also such a good finisher, so contemplative and honest and full of love.
4. Graduation (Favourite song: Flashing Lights)
Obligatory "But he made Graduation!!!" joke. This one makes me feel like I'm walking on clouds, and also makes me want to buy the Japanese cd so I can listen to Bittersweet Poetry. So incredibly magical and if the "Old Kanye" had to go, I'm so glad he went with this album.
5. The Life of Pablo (Favourite song: Ultralight Beam)
My first Kanye album I listened to in full! I have good memories of it just for that. Father Stretch My Hands pt 1's beat drop solidified my love for producer tags (thank you Metro), and Sampha's feature on Saint Pablo is an absolute highlight. Also Frank Ocean gets an entire mini song to himself. Peak.
6. Donda + Deluxe (Favourite song: Hurricane, if deluxe, Life of the Party)
I didn't think much of it at first, but after several relistens, I truly believe this should've been his final album(s). While a bit bloated at times (was so many part 2s necessary..?), it was still a fitting tribute to Donda West and his songs more focused on her tug on my heart really bad.
7. The College Dropout (Favourite song: Slow Jamz)
It feels blasmephous to put something so good so low but I like the others so much! This is literally just a classic album, what can I say about TCD that hasn't already been said? Also I love the Kanye bear (more so in his later forms but he was introduced here!)
8. Late Registration (Favourite song: Diamonds from Sierra Leone)
Another one I feel bad for ranking so low! I just don't have a lot to say about it... Late Orchestration is banger tho
9. 808s & Heartbreak (Favourite song: Love Lockdown)
I just don't have much to say about this one? Between the 3 albums that marked a jarring shift in Kanye's sound, this one sticks out the least to me ;_; I do still like it a lot tho!
10. Jesus is King (Favourite song: Use this Gospel)
Ahhh, I'm bitter over this one. Yandhi is my favourite unreleased album, so this just feels like a pale imitation of what could've probably been top 3 Kanye for me. Hell, I prefer Use this Gospel's original form, Law of Attraction, more than its JIK form.
That's his solo albums, regarding collab albums, it goes
1. Watch the Throne (Favourite song: Why I Love You)
Obligatory "Who was in Paris?" joke. Frank Ocean features are what bumps this up to me. Also Funk Flex's radio release of Otis also warmed me up to this album.
2. Kids see Ghosts (Favourite song: 4th dimension)
Kid Cudi good. Lol.
3. Vultures 1 (Favourite song: Carnival)
Mmm. First Kanye album I just didn't like. Carnival is catchy and had my glorious king Carti and sampled my beautiful Hell of a Life. Also one song sampled Brasilian phonk which was sick.
I refused to listen to Vultures 2. I heard the shitty mixing and AI on Sky City (a Yandhi favourite) and couldn't bear it.

9LIVES SHARES NEW SINGLE "MULTIMILLIONAIRE" (W/ TRIPPIE REDD & ODETARI)
Tumblr media
9lives, the New Zealand-born multi-hyphenate artist and producer, has just shared his new single “MULTIMILLIONAIRE” (w/ Trippie Redd & Odetari). 9lives is the artist at the forefront of the sigilkore scene, a fast-growing, internet-born Rap subgenre which combines elements of Trap, Cloud Rap, Hyperpop, and Electronic music into his own supernatural sound. At just 19 years old, 9lives has already accumulated over 600 Million Streams, and consistently goes viral across TikTok thanks to his eclectic tracks like the recently-released “Lights” by Skaiwater and Midwxst. With dark aesthetics that pull from video games and anime, and an emphasis on mashing together explosive elements like bass-boosted 808s and distorted synths, 9lives has already worked with a number of A-list artists including Rico Nasty, JELEEL!, Kanii, Odetari, and even Trippie Redd – producing “Popular” off of his latest LP. On his new single “MULTIMILLIONAIRE”, he’s linked up with Trippie Redd and experimental artist Odetari again for an explosive hustling anthem that further solidifies 9lives as the burgeoning star of his niche yet rapidly-growing scene.
Since emerging onto the music scene less than two years ago, 9lives has already built an impressive career for himself as the leading face of the chronically-online sigilkore scene. After getting his start in production by making beats on GarageBand and FL Studios in highschool, 9lives began to get tired of the “trap type beats” that he was making – this is when he discovered the sigilkore community, and began to hone in on pushing the boundaries of the eclectic sound. 9lives garnered viral attention across TikTok and social media, dropping his breakthrough single "XTAYALIVE" (100M+ Streams) last year. He’s subsequently released a collab EP with experimental producer Odetari, and become a frequent collaborator with Trippie Redd – with the duo expanding on their chemistry with the new single “MULTIMILLIONAIRE”. 9lives recently signed to PULSE Records, a new label founded by PULSE Music Group, whose publishing roster includes the likes of Brent Faiyaz, Ty Dolla $ign, and Freddie Gibbs – a testament to his rapidly-growing influence and standalone presence. With his eyes set on becoming a fixture in the mainstream realm of experimental production and artistry, 9lives and his new single continue his hot streak as he puts the sigilkore genre on his back, introducing it to the world.
