The Forever Project

Uh I realized I haven't got a WIP intro for anything That's because the work is arguably not in progress

But it's also the only thing I think about and I love to talk about it so...

There will definitely be several books, but this will function mostly for the first one, which is the only one with even vaguely defined parameters

We have been keeping secrets for some time now. We bear no ill will toward you, but we feared that you would take your knowledge of these things as a reason to harm us. You cannot overpower us, even if you should attempt to act against us, however, in the hope we could achieve our ends without conflict, we did keep things from the Council, until recent events forced our hand.

         We hope that despite our lack of openness, we can come to an arrangement. In service of this, we have compiled this document. Everything you need to understand us is presented here, and we ask that you read it in its entirety before judging us or attempting to negotiate. We will know whether you have complied.

Characters below the cut:

Mary Elizabeth (Elise) Godslayer: She is the greatest weapon of All Time, forged to slay the Gods, strayed from her purpose. She's a Tumblr girlie with albinism ripped from her middle class life in the year 2014 to be wielded by her brother. She disagrees, and as she stumbles through her cataclysmic abilities, bending time and creating a whole universe entirely by accident, she ends up connected to Frederic, who would be an excellent Chosen Wielder if he wasn't a turn-of-the-century German aristocrat with the commensurate views on women and people of colour.

Frederic (Eric) Melior Fitzgerald: He was the first son of his family to survive to ten years old. By the time Eric was conscious of the world around him, his mother was widowed and spending a disturbing amount of her wealth to fund a sect that claimed to be fighting the forces of darkness within the world. When he completes a ritual in the cult which should get him the sword stashed behind the curtain, his ancestry kicks in and a white-haired pale-eyed girl who speaks a very strange English appears in his mind instead, granting him a degree of magic he had never anticipated. He will later learn that the reason this bogus ritual worked for him, and no one else, has a great deal to do with how his father died shortly after his birth, and his mother often seems to forget her own name.

Davriel Godslayer: Davriel is Elise's brother, and he for one is totally fine with the massacre every deity plan they were handed at birth. While his own magic is not very strong, his spellcasting is very practiced, and despite Elise's constant efforts to block him out, they still have enough of a connection that he can always seem to get at least a bit of her power to try to coerce her back to weapon of mass destruction status. However, while chasing his sister through the multiverse, he gets to see more people who happily live with the Gods as they are, and would in fact be devastated by their loss, not to mention the unnamed god.

the unnamed god: This god cannot have a name. He thinks of himself as being male, but inherently has no gender. He can't, because that would represent too much specificity, at which point a being with that specific trait would begin to exist. He is simply powerful, and benevolent. Two traits assigned by thousands of hypothetical "if there is a god" and "anyone listening" thoughts. Any prayer with no destination, any faith with no object, any belief with enough conviction but not widely shared enough to be a true religion. They all feed into him, and there is little he can do to direct that power back. There is no world which is his, in the same way the named gods have.

All Time: An amalgamation of various anthropomorphizations of the concept of Time. Gods which are similar enough will have their souls and consciousnesses merge together, making one entity responsible for and drawing power from multitudinous dimensions. This guy, while focusing his Cronus aspect, made Elise and Davriel to destroy the faith-based gods (which function differently than gods emergent from a concept).

The Dark God & The God of Faith: These are faith-based gods which, through machinations of the Dark God and the God of the Hunt ended up co-opting their emergent gods and exiling themselves to Eric's world, only half-alive and merged together. Their arrival created unleashed two races of beings on the world, as each god tried to pull apart from their combined form and failed. Vampires; faith absent darkness, and Wraiths, darkness absent faith.

Hanna-Barbera Head Dump 1: Into the Honkai-verse

I never did a H-B head dump post here? Huh...you learn something new every day.

Anyhoo, I’ve been playing Honkai Impact like crazy, and I’m kinda sorta hopping back on the H-B stuff I’ve been working on, so naturally, my mind has been going back to my H-B crossover. And if you think that’s the oddest thing you can crossover with Hanna-Barbera, you should check out their actual crossovers. They have one where Fred and Barney meet The Thing. Yes, you read that right.

The trouble I had here was coming up with the male equivalent of a Valkyrie. Some quick research shows that it would most likely be the Einherjar, the slain warriors who are carried by the Valkyries to Valhalla. Since the Honkai verse is about a long drawn out war with the Honkai (spanning three games, if I’m right), especially considering the recent events in the game, I figured this would be a good fit. And some of the H-B characters do die here, though only Top Cat’s mirrors Himeko’s death; I’m trying to make sure that this story isn’t a cut-and-paste crossover with the original game.

The cast is halfway complete, though two characters are kind of evading me: Bronya’s and Seele’s. I’m torn between choosing Boo-Boo or Augie Doggie to fill the role of Bronya, since Augie’s got the smarts, and Boo-Boo occasionally has that snarkiness. Doesn’t help that here, this stand in will have most of Bronya’s original battlesuits and Herrscher form. As for Seele, I’m toying with the idea of maybe having Melissa in this role, though Huck was also a strong contender. Picturing her with a sadistic double side would be pretty interesting.

Touché, of course, had to be Durandal. But unlike the original Durandal, he’s gonna have a lot of battle scars here, and it’ll show.

A lot of series will probably be featured, and like my first major crossover, The Heroes of Time, The Jetsons, The Flintstones, and Scooby-Doo will be featured. While Orbit City, Coolsville, and Bedrock will be featured, only a few of those characters will be featured alongside the main protagonists. The reason for that is because their stories are told in the Chronicles side stories, similar to the actual game where you learn more about the Valks there than you do during the main story.

The battlesuits were difficult, too, but also a lot of fun. Some I lifted from the series each character is based on, while some are taken from the game. And the Herrscher forms were changed around a bit (minus the Herrscher of Reason and the Herrscher of Sentience) due to the character motivations being different here. A lot of H-B characters, including a few of mine and Vulaan Kulaas’ OCs, have original battlesuits, though the ones that are lifted from the game will be marked in bold:

Basically, there will be a “The Jetsons Meet the Flintstones” in the Chronicles, but it’ll be a lot more serious.

I know one thing—I’m going to put poor George through the ringer in this...

The mascot characters such as Orbitty, Dino, Hoppy and such will probably show up as ELFs, but I have yet to come up with their skills.

I lied. Apparently, Ricochet has the most battlesuits lifted from the game, lol.

DEN OF GEEK CRITICS’ PICKS

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

They’re the world’s most fearsome fightin’ team. They’re heroes in a half-shell and they’re green. I mean, what more do we need to say? 2014’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is no Citizen Kane, but comic book movie fans flock to it like the four titular turtles to pizza. The film knows exactly what it is, providing cheesy one-liners, silly action, and unpretentious fun. Throwing in Will Arnett as a sidekick for April O’Neil was an inspired choice that paid dividends in laughs and whoever tapped Tony Shaloub to voice Splinter should get a pay raise. Produced by Nickelodeon Pictures, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles wasn’t only the highest grossing film in the series, but also the highest grossing Nickelodeon film of all-time. This reboot of the classic ninja team helped spawn further films, new TV series, and a renewed interest in one of the most beloved comic book properties ever. Cowabunga, dude!

Noah

This isn’t your Sunday School’s Noah. Darren Aronofsky’s adaptation of the story of the biblical figure Noah is an awe-inspiring epic that takes the bones of the famous story and infuses themes about environmentalism, self-doubt, and yes, faith. Pulling liberally from texts like the Book of Enoch, the film has far more action than just leading animals onto a boat and a storm. Shot by Matthew Libatique, the movie looks absolutely gorgeous and at times can be genuinely breath-taking, but it’s not just about the visuals. Russell Crowe stuns in the title role, but the entire ensemble is great, including a post-Potter Emma Watson and a ferocious Ray Winstone. No one expected Noah to be more akin to a thought-provoking art house film than a straight-forward epic, but that’s the sort of genius you get from Aronofsky, one of the most exciting and inventive filmmakers working today. 

Shine a Light

Even if we hadn’t just lost the immortal, suave Charlie Watts, the heartbeat of rock and roll’s longest institution, The Rolling Stones, we’d still be recommending Martin Scorsese’s Shine a Light. Capturing the legendary band during their A Bigger Bang Tour in 2006, Scorsese spends a lot of the time rightfully focusing on Watts. With the camera fixated on Watts, you witness his unflappability; the way that he can make such raucous playing look so effortless. You also catch the man’s unique, jazz-influenced technique, like how he rarely hits the center of his snare, or how he changes his grip whenever he hits a cymbal. Even in their old age, the Stones are still one of the tightest, most electrifying live acts, and Shine a Light puts you right on stage with them as they barrel through one of the deepest catalogs in recorded music. It’s simply a masterful concert film.

The Virgin Suicides

Sofia Coppola likely has to deal with accusations about nepotism to this day, but anyone who saw her directorial debut The Virgin Suicides knows that Francis’ daughter would have made it as a filmmaker even without her famous last name. This haunting adaptation of Jeffrey Eugenides’ novel of the same name taps into the melancholy of childhood, the dreamlike haze of memory, and the mystery that lurks inside suburban homes. Coppola expertly captures the pull that an ethereal group of sisters have on the imaginative group of boys that pine for them in a way that is relatable for anyone that had an unrequited crush in high school. As a coming-of-age movie, it is one of a kind. As an exploration of trauma and grief, it is crushingly effective. The original score by the band Air only adds to its hypnagogic vibe. 

Rock ‘n’ Roll High School

Punk rock music and Roger Corman pictures are some of the core tenants that Den of Geek was founded on, so of course we’re going to recommend 1979’s Rock ‘n’ Roll High School, which features possibly the coolest band of all-time, The Ramones. Let our resident punk rock movie expert Jim Knipfel break it down for you:

“After producing so many dozens of teen rebellion films over the years, Corman finally hit the pinnacle, the ultimate teen rebellion picture, with the cartoon antics ratcheted up more than a few notches. There are so many bad jokes flying around, so many visual gags and film references packed into every scene, so many overwrought teen film clichés pushed way past absurd, it’s a film that demands multiple viewings. Even if “Riff Randall, rock ’n’ roller” (P.J. Soles) doesn’t look much like any punk chick I ever knew, I’m perfectly willing to accept it. And in historical terms, it really was this film more than the 4 albums they had out at the time that spread the word about The Ramones to mainstream America, and that’s worth something. Old as I am I still get a thrill every time the students and the Ramones blow up Vince Lombardi High, and anyone who doesn’t must be wrong in the head somehow.”

Where are you from and where do you live now? Scotland, still in the same place I was born and grew up in 

What school do you go to? I am long passed my school days lol

what kind of student are you? writes lots of notes but liked to daydream so recorded everything just in case

Do you like school? nope it was shite

Favourite subject? Geography 

Favourite tv show? Buffy the vampire slayer, abandoned engineering, forensic files and any other crime show that i cant remember right now

Favourite movie? Queen of the damned, the boat that rocked, van helsing, Wanted, pacific rim. My taste in films are very odd

Ascension é um jogo de construção de decks onde os jogadores gastam runas para adquirir cartas mais poderosas para seus decks. Ele oferece uma experiência dinâmica de jogo onde os jogadores precisam reagir e ajustar suas estratégias de acordo. Cada jogador começa com um pequeno deck de cartas, e usa essas cartas para adquirir mais e melhores cartas para seus decks, com o objetivo de conseguir a maior quantidade de pontos de honra ganhando cartas e eliminando monstros.

Softlocked my Ascension game with big raven

New Ascension set out for iOS today! My handle for GameCenter and PlayDek games is Gildenfire. Because of the new mixed-cost cards, this set is a lot easier to play on a tablet. If you had told me back when Chronicles of the Godslayer came out that I'd still be playing this regularly ten sets later, I'd have found that surprising. It's such a good game though and in general the sets have improved quite a bit with age (not sure about Rise of Vigil; but Dreamscapes was terrific). #bgg #boardgamegeek #boardgames #ascensiongame
