He’s a Killer
a playlist for an unreleased film inspired by a single still
(because I have a problem)
Old Guy is a film about a hitman who’s paired up with a younger partner and must win back a love interest who... honestly, I have no idea what this movie is about. This playlist is entirely inspired by that still and that look. Please don’t judge me. Or you can. That’s okay too.
Listen on Spotify
Rag Doll - Aerosmiith Miss You - The Rolling Stones You Got Lucky - Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap - AC/DC Heartbreaker - Pat Benatar Dirty Work - Steely Dan Crazy on You - Heart Sharp Dressed Man - ZZ Top Everybody’s Talkin’ - Harry Nilsson This Town Ain’t Big Enough for Both of Us - Sparks Train Kept a Rollin’ - Aerosmith In the Evening - Led Zeppelin Whipping Post - Allman Brothers Band Heart of Glass - Blondie D’yer Mak’er - Led Zeppelin Funk #49 - James Gang
#Christoph Waltz#Old Guy#oh you thought I was kidding about making a playlist?#more fool you then#playlists#I get a late 1970s-early 1980s vibe from that look okay#but it will probably turn out his character is a hitman who only listens to classical#how am I supposed to know#the movie doesn't even have a trailer yet

watched 'downsizing' today (my moms choice), which nick mentioned on the last yard ep i think, called it 'fuckin terrible' which. i dont know i found it bad in an interesting way. felt like a dream (not complimentary) it went off in so many directions and didnt know what genre to be it felt like. unsatisfying ending. stretched itself too thin to where the emotional moments dont hit and the comedy doesnt either
youd think itd be centered around the gimmick of shrinking, but it felt pretty secondary most of the time. almost felt like the romance + norwegian doomsday preppers and the whole small / big people plot were initially separate
it does not feel like a movie with a theme or point even, just a bunch of scenes duct taped together
then i showed my mom 'the good guys' right after, which is such whiplash because its so narratively ~tight~ and very funi (to me). shot + colored so pretty too
i do recommend watching both though, good guys for an actual good movie, downsizing for a perplexing 2 hours

Me: *watching Most Dangerous Game: New York Flavored* This one is leagues better than Littlest Cancer Patient Liam Hemsworth.
Also me: Why is Victor's sister so goddamn stupid and why does that make me so mad??
#honestly the second season is miles (lol bc thats his name) better than the first#no hate on liam but the hemsworth brothers just are not all that interesting as actors#theyre eye candy and thats all there is to them#this guy tho nick he's awesome and he's genuine and you really want to root for him (and I did)#but holy shit the character of his little sister was the worst#she was the stupidest goddamn character like i was amazed she was able to walk and tie her shoes at the same time#the actress was fantastic no hate there but god whoever wrote that character should have just...scrapped everything and tried again#because wow some choices were made and they were not good ones#shoutout to christoph waltz nailing it as usual though still love how he's able to do that#and miles got more characterization beyond 'teehee I do this for funsies because I'm Evil'#christoph waltz#most dangerous game new york

And you should be brave enough to say that you find him compelling for who he actually is instead of making up some bland nice guy! Enjoying a charismatic* antagonist has a long history, so have the courage of your convictions!
*I don't find him especially charismatic but I liked Con's performance (in season 1 especially), and plenty of people do latch onto him 🤷🏾♀️
you want izzy to have a heart of gold so fucking bad it's making you look stupid. well he doesn't. he had bad goals and did bad things to achieve those goals. no amount of thinking he was saving ed from the threat of being feminine and soft or some bullshit changes that. he is a traitor. he is a bad bad bad bad man. who also has intense psychosexual issues <3 hope this helps
#izzy hands#don't be a coward#be a proud villainfucker#izzy would hate being seen as a nice guy#let izzy be izzy#ofmd#our flag means death#ursula is a charismatic antagonist#scar is a charismatic antagonist#and idk like loki and hans gruber#and denzel washington in training day#and whatever christoph waltz's character in inglorious basterds was called

I need everybody to know that August Diehl did such a great job in Inglorious Basterds as Major Dieter Hellstrom.
He delivers his lines so perfectly. Like his voice is just so satisfying??? For example, in the first picture, the way he says "Notiert" and lights his cigarette is just amazing. Same with the whole bar scene later in the movie. There's just something in his voice that makes everything work perfectly!!
I'm a Christoph Waltz fan first and foremost, but damn it, there are so many high class performances in this movie it's actually insane. And especially as a German it is rare to see actual German actors performing German characters so that they don't sound odd.
#inglourious basterds#dieter hellstrom#august diehl#movies#never thought I would end up posting about inglorious basterds#but I've seen that movie far too often to act normally about it anymore#calliope rambles

As was expected, because if two movies take place in the same time period they have to be exactly alike, reviewers keep comparing Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare to Inglorious Basterds. Saying "Well, in Inglorious Basterds, they did this..."
Guy Ritchie is not Quentin Tarantino, they are not going to make similar movies, they have vastly different directorial styles and go for vastly different genres of movies. And thank goodness for that because not everyone likes a misogynistic foot fetishist whose movies incels on the Internet use to call women stupid (while simultaneously complaining they won't sleep with them) because "they just don't understand the nuance and how smart it is".
I've seen From Dusk Til Dawn. It was shit. I've seen the Desperado trilogy. They were shit. I've seen Inglorious Basterds. Eh, it was okay. Christoph Waltz was the only good part of that movie.
Quentin Tarantino uses bloody ultraviolence to carry subpar plots and his main characters have absolutely no personality besides "violent". He's been called a "genius director" by people who mistake "shock value" for "genius". He's Michael Bay only instead of explosions, he uses blood and gore.
Guy Ritchie uses humor and wit. Tarantino wouldn't know wit if it kicked him in the face (though, to be fair, he'd be too distracted by his boner).
Am I saying Ritchie is a better director than Tarantino? No. I'm saying that Ritchie is a different director than Tarantino. I may not personally like Tarantinos' movies, but that's just my opinion. They don't make the same style of movie so their movies shouldn't be compared against each other.

I’m trying not be everywhere but I really need to just spill my thoughts somewhere. And where better then here? I’ve been listening to old classics, like frank Sinatra, Elvis, Fats Domino, (which I recommend “blueberry hill” from) and some others but I’ve been listening to “Aline by Christophe” and I’m just imagining slow dancing with your fav (not really specifying, you can write for whoever, basically surprise me😭) while they whisper sweet nothings into your ear. The radio/jukebox being muffled in the background while you both focus on each other in the moment. Lowkey thinking about that makes me tear up for some reason-😭 man I’ve just been sending fluff or angst💀 which I would like to apologize for if thats not what you are in the mood to write😭
-💧
I love listening to music so if you have any more suggestions, I am all ears. (I'm going to check out the ones you already mentioned in this post) So many characters jumped to mind for this prompt but I decided to go with Welt Yang ((sorry if you don't know him)) because a few other characters I thought of I kind of hurt myself with thinking about because they would have been so angsty. Fluffy but angsty. Anyways, thanks for the prompt enjoy being basically an old, married couple with Welt :)
It was late at night when you decided to tinker with the phonograph nestled in the passenger car of the Astral Express. The rest of the crew had gone to bed ages ago, save you and your life partner, Welt. You didn’t even hear the familiar, adorable footsteps of the Train’s Conductor who usually roamed the halls at night to make sure every one was asleep. Alas, it was peacefully silent, yet you wanted a little noise to fill the void.
You continued to toggle through the vast amounts of records kept on the beloved phonograph, your eyes narrowed in concentration as you tried to find one that you would enjoy. Something soft, not too loud, lest you risk waking the other passengers. A small sigh blew past your lips. You didn’t even recognise half these songs. Where were all the old classics? Like Sinatra or Elvis? You shook your head. You were going to have to teach the youngsters around here about the meaning of your impeccable tastes. As you continued to scroll, your finger abruptly paused over the button when the name of a familiar song flashed by. A smile lit up your features as your finger hovered over the play button. When you pushed the button, the phonograph hummed to life, loading the record as the needle lowered to the disc and it slowly begun to spin.
You turned around as the soft tune started to fill the air, injecting the silence with a little bit of life. Welt’s ears perked up at the familiar melody gracing his ears and his head immediately picked up. His eyes were focused on you as you waltzed across the room, only stopping once you were standing in front of the chair he was currently sitting in. A playfully smile tugged at your lips, your eyes sparkling like stars as you held your hand out to him.
"May I have this dance, Mr. Yang?" you asked.
You wriggled your fingers in front of his face, trying to entice him further. A smile tilted the older gentleman’s lips as he reached for your hand. His touch was gentle as your fingers intertwined and he leaned forward, placing his lips upon the delicate skin of your knuckles. You chuckled softly, your pulse jumping under the press of his mouth. Welt peered up at you behind the thick rim of his glasses, his eyes holding a fond warmth for you.
"You may" he murmured into your skin, his breath ghosting over your skin and sending goosebumps prickling along your arms.
With a graceful smile you pulled your partner to his feet, making him leave his walking stick behind as you continued to pull him to the middle of the train cart. The hum of the train’s engine was barely audible over the music, the lights dimmed as the Astral Express continued to glide across the vast sea of stars in the deepest reaches of space. It was the perfect setting to accompany you both, along with the old and familiar tune. You squealed as Welt suddenly spun you around, lifting his arm high above your head as you twirled before collapsing into his open arms. Your stomach erupted with butterflies, your heart fluttering wildly in your chest as you wrapped your arms loosely around his shoulders. Welt’s hands came to politely rest high on your waist; hands steady on your hips as you slowly swayed to the beat.
This song stirred so many memories, the lyrics reminding you of days that had long passed. You softly hummed along to the tune, your eyes never once straying from your partner’s as you gently stepped in time to the slow, melodic beat. Your fingers walked along the seam of his coat, flicking at the small specks of lint that clung to the material as a warm noise of content stirred in the back of your throat. When was the last time you had danced like this?
"Do you remember when we first heard this song?" you asked.
A soft hum stirred in Welt’s throat and you could see the twinkle of recognition in his eyes. His thumbs brushed along your hip bones as he stared down at you with lidded eyes, the memories that jumped to the forefront of his mind still so fresh that he could have sworn that they only happened yesterday. He smiled fondly at the memory.
"Your hair was a little longer back then" he replied.
One of his hands left your waist, his large palm coming to gently rest on your face and cup your warm cheek. Wisps of your hair curled around the tips of his fingers as he tucked a few loose strands behind your ear, his voice barely above a breathy whisper as he continued to recall.
"We took that long walk along the beach. I still remember the way the moonlight shone through your clothes."
"Do you mean after I took them off?" you responded with a devious smirk.
You jumped in his grasp when his fingers roughly pinched your hip in retaliation, causing your body to press further against his. A warm laugh bubbled up his throat as his arms wrapped around your waist, large hands brushing against the small of your back to usher you closer. You pouted up at him, arms coiling around his neck as you continued to dance among the stars. You nuzzled the tip of your nose against his cheek as you took a deep breath, the familiar scent of his cologne curling in your lungs and making your head feel a little giddy.
"We spent hours there, among the sand and the stars" you quietly added.
"I thought that night would never end" Welt mumbled, his hot breath fanning across your cheek.
You tipped your head back, your lips ghosting over his when you spoke.
"I didn’t want it to" you admitted.
"Nor did I, my dear."
You could feel a constellation of tears clinging to the edges of your lashes as a lump formed in your throat. Stars above, how did you ever manage to meet such a beautiful man such as him. You were on the verge of tears, ready to burst apart at the seams as your heart swelled with pure affection for the man you held so tightly in your arms. The music from the phonogram faded into the distance, silence permeating the air once more as you and Welt continued to dance. Minutes seemed to stretch on for hour, the warmth of Welt’s embrace tempting you to stay, silently pleading for you to never let go. You both stopped dancing when the time felt right, your chest feeling light as you stepped back. You sniffled loudly, wiping your fingers under your eyes to brush away the tears that clung to the corners of your vision.
"Okay, this reminiscing is making me all teary eyed. I think it’s time we turned in for the night. Come on Grandpa, time to get you into bed."
Welt chuckled as he quirked a bemused eyebrow at you. "Grandpa? Come now, I’m not that old."
"You have grey hairs" you retorted.
"And so do you."
You huffed loudly, a sad pout tugging at your lips. Welt adored the look and he couldn’t help but to wrap his arms around you again, his lips brushing against your face to try and ease the tension from it.
"Come now love, you’re still as beautiful as the day I met you."
You hummed at his words, leaning into his touch as your body started to relax. "I see you haven’t lost your charm."
Welt smiled as he kissed your forehead, the gesture holding more affection than words could ever comprehend.

A little bit of an update on the new Dracula movie with Christoph Waltz. His character will be that of a Priest, directed by Luc Besson. No release date as of yet.
While fans have not seen the romantic side of Dracula in the movies, per legends, it was Elisabeta’s suicide that led the character’s real-life inspiration, the Romanian ruler Prince Vlad III to forsake God and embrace life as a vampire. Also starring alongside Jones as Dracula is Zoë Bleu Sidel, who plays Elisabeta and her 19th century alter ego Mina along with Christoph Waltz as a Priest, Matilda De Angelis as Maria, as Elisabeta/Mina and Haymon Maria Buttinger as Cardinal.

boy hope i never run out of zelda games to play or my mental health is going to Tank. there are very vague endgame stuff spoilers (not where zelda is, but some of the time fuckery) but i am going to spoil a bit of the rito sage quest. nothing is rot-13'ed. i feel like that's a fair compromise since this game has been out for about a year? please let me know YOUR opinions on recent game spoilers
listening
Thanks A Lot But No Thanks from the 1955 musical It's Always Fair Weather, sung by Dolores Grey. this was Dolores Grey propaganda in the @hotvintagepoll. i love a sugar baby song and this is sort of an. anti-sugar-baby song? a satitrical sugar baby song? she thanks suitors for increasingly improbable gifts (the state of Maine, et al) before killing them??
the PIPES on this woman!!! the comedic timing!!! she pulls out a gun and shoots suitors dead while thanking them for an autographed picture of john wayne!!! she pulls a big lever and they all fall under the stage!!! ive been having kind of a Time in the depths of unemployment and this made me genuinely laugh (not one short sharp bark of laughter, full on cackling).
youtube
thanks for the darling uranium mine indeed
reading
the moonstone by wilkie collins (and philip). this has been my falling asleep reading book. this is decidedly not a cozy mystery but the stakes are not like. so high i have to keep reading through the night to find out what happens. i'm having a good time with it, currently about halfway and still very irritated with rachel, the main character right now. i have not revised my "spoiled brat" opinion and i look forward to seeing if i ever revise it.

watching
The Three Musketeers (2011, dir. Paul W.S. Anderson). thank you mackintosh (this is a discard from my hometown library and no one needs to know where that is thanks). it's pretty widely available on free platforms rn which is how you know it's good. it's not Good is the thing but it is extremely fun. it is straight up the three musketeers but with an airship. milla jovovich jumps off an airship into the channel. milla jovovich does some assassins creed shit. luke evans does some assassins creed shit. there is an airship fight and an airship chase. it is So cheesy and unfortunately never got another sequel. it also inexplicably has some of the finest cinematic swordfighting since the golden age of hollywood.
this was a really successful impromptu movie night pick for a more widely varied gang than usual, including some teens. my bestie also enjoyed it, which i am So pleased by bc she has extremely exacting movie taste. this cast is so stacked for no good reason: orlando bloom, luke evans, christoph waltz, mads mikkelsen, matthew macfayden...

playing
i have a post in my head about breath of the wild and tears of the kingdom and their dialogue with each other about loss and grief, but i think that's going to have to wait until i have a little bit more brainpower. perhaps i can talk a little bit about how they make me feel about loss and grief, and how i was upset for zelda and her hundred-year siege in the last one but i am so so so desperately sad for zelda in tears of the kingdom.
i played through breath of the wild with a constant background sense of loss and grief. this is only partially due to the real-life severe depression and joblessness. i think this is a personal brain thing and not a game thing, but i did feel guilty when fucking around in breath of the wild and not actively doing main quests to save zelda. like i would look at the castle off in the distance and feel kind of bad. the champions (and zelda!) telling link as soon as physically possible that it wasn't his fault made me cry in real life every time. i get it's like a month max of in-universe time between games, but it still feels like he has once again missed SO much. i think this is sort of a larger symptom of depression in that i look at [REDACTED] in tears of the kingdom and get a bit hopeless about [REDACTED] and it's like. well i might as well go pick golden apples and not do main quests. time is meaningless.
i am really glad they kept the shrine of resurrection on the plateau in tears of the kingdom. if that hadn't been there i the player would have felt very unmoored. i cannot begin to think how unreal and depersonalized it would have made link feel.
enough of that! the hero's path function is so funny. there are such huge swathes of the map i looked at and said No Thanks! Not Yet!
my depths map is even funnier. eight lightroots so far. no thank you! too scary still! i thought until VERY RECENTLY that all the caves and wells led to the depths and was avoiding them. mistake! cool shit in caves and wells! some horrible boys as well but they are vastly outnumbered by the cool shit.
the rito sage quest fucked SO severely. i had so much fucking fun with that boss fight even though it took me a real life two hours to get up to the arena with the puzzles to unlock the boss fight. i also surprised myself and did not have to look up how to beat any of the puzzles or the boss! just entered a state of flow and looked up and it was three hours later! i know a lot of people are very grumpy about how this was not a totally new game with a totally new map, but i have nothing but praise for the mechanics in this completely new section. knocked my socks off. made me think but wasn't too frustrating. made me use all my powers and all my weapon types. it was simply a great deal of almost frictionless fun! some over the top sick as shit stuff that is the whole point of video games as a medium imo
unlocked all the geoglyphs and i am Upset. i am UPSET.
and now for some horse talk (TM): i kept the very first horse i caught out of nostalgia even though these stats are not very good. i think the naming scheme for this game will be H (the last game was C). the breath of the wild giant ganon horse is so funny. you can't do shit with this horse. you can't change the mane. you can't change the tack. you can't increase his stats. he's just There. Large.
tangential horse talk: why is this lynel in the wetlands. his feathering and fetlocks are going to rot off. he is going to founder
some places ASCEND works where i didn't expect it to: tree. water you can stand in.
i stumbled across the last power completely accidentally while trying to deliver some eyes to a mysterious god and this was so fucking funny. i DID throw this guy down a big pit in the last game and he never came back. i forgot about that.
also people were fucking gaga for rauru but why didn't i see people talking about either of these two last summer on this, the -girl affix site and the scruffy shredded boy site
some other bits and bobs:
i was so annoyed patricia was part of the compendium in the last game i fucking got her this time ok
very hashtag relatable languages moment
unrelated to either of those things, i have done the gerudo sage quest except for the boss battle and i missed two huge swathes of hashtag tunnel gameplay (going to find riju through the tunnels. simply went overland) and getting to the central temple chamber (simply used ascend). whoops
there's a little tower concept art piece in purah's room in the ancient lab! that's a fun little touch i really love, it really helps differentiate the games and show changes in the overworld between games in a very cheap and east way for the devs
bc i play these games like dressup simulators, i also want to note that misko's tents are also really fun, they really feel like they're from a much earlier era and i'm stumbling across an untouched archaeological site
-
making
garden update: growing along okay, it has been so so so wet lately and i should have bitten the bullet and bought the big expensive bag of perlite, the drainage is not terrific. i should elevate all the planters and that would help a bit too. tomatoes are bit leggy, i moved them out of the partial shade on the end of the balcony and in front of the window. i am a bit concerned about them getting scorched, but again it's been so wet lately they need all the help they can get. i feel like they're established enough to be pruned a bit to make them bushier but i am Afraid. there are worse things in life than leggy tomatoes
the pic on the left below: these bush beans are looking a bit strange as well. the four shorter ones came up, promptly withered their cotyledons, and i thought they died until they popped out their first true leaves. the larger ones i think may have some kind of mosaic virus but it's a little early to tell. these are bins that haven't been used outside (they stored clothes in for the move) and new dirt from home depot. either the dirt or the seed stock itself may have been infected? very strange. the cucumbers in the bin in the back (hidden by the beans) are also taking forever to get going. at least the sweet peas are doing fine. the spinach i planted in that back bin withered where the stems met the soil and died. i think it was simply to early and too damp for them.
anyway on the right pic above: these normie peas and normie climbing beans seem to be doing fine. that's dill in the gray pot and basil in the bucket, they also seem to be doing fine. just sort of a perplexing corner on the other side of the balcony.
