See I don't really believe there are any broader like. Schema of gender in Homestuck in that makes sense. Including Callie's OG gendering of classes but most others don't have a solid "reason" to them. Breath players tend to lean towards transfeminine to me but that doesn't feel like it's because of Breath and so on and so forth.

Basically the only two principles of gender determination in Homestuck I actually abide by are:

Trans characters can be partially determined in certain cases by examine their relationships to other close characters, forming something like a binary (or more) system. Transmasculine Dirk v. Transfeminine Roxy, Femme Transfeminine Gay Jake English v. Butch Transmasc Lesbian Jane Crocker, my Davepeta+ Gender Chart etc. Characters in Homestuck often model themselves in relation to their friends as we do irl.

Space is nigh-exclusively a transfeminine aspect in Homestuck itself. The job of a Space player is to seize and create their own means of creation and species-level reproduction, usually after being deprived of traditional means of womanhood, motherhood, and reproduction.

the way that his death metaphorically and not so metaphorically has to happen every time.

it's what strikes me about titans too, you only killed him because you think this is the important bit, but the important bit is that he is abandoned.

Judgement

upright: resurrection, reflection, reckoning, judgement, and awakening. reversed: lack of self-awareness, doubt, self-loathing.

Yet another tarot card edit, this time for my Curse of Strahd character, Avra! She's a shadar-kai/reborn phantom rogue who was brought back from the dead by the Raven Queen to serve as her chosen assassin. She was sent to Barovia to kill a rogue lich, but one of the people meant to help her (a raven given human form by the Raven Queen) has made a bargain with him instead...

Her epithet in my notes is "the revenant", and I think it's pretty obvious why. And also pretty obvious why she gets the Judgement card. (Resurrected from the dead, brings her goddess's judgement upon people, etc.)

In this case the reversed version of the card is also fitting, or at least it most likely will be as her arc progresses... (Though the "lack of self-awareness" is pretty accurate, given recent events in the campaign.)

Oh, and of course I had to include a raven looking down on Avra. The Raven Queen does keep a very close eye on her, even now that she's in Barovia...

I love the new chaoter, but I’m having a hard time visualizing Xingqius injury. If it’s not too much trouble, can I ask for a bit more detail for that scene? Also, was it healing or uh. A full resurrection art because Qiqi can fully revive teammates at c6. Very curious about how bad it was by the time the two were in position to help him.

this will all come up in the next chapter i'm pretty sure? but probably not in a lot of detail, so i see no problem in just telling you here. can't really think of it as spoilers so

(i feel like i should also preface this with the fact that i'm not a doctor, so take the accuracy and feasibility of all this as artistic liberties hahah;;)

xingqiu got slashed downwards, which means the blade entered through the lower part of his shoulderblade and crossed a good chunk of his back until it swiped off near the end of his ribcage, like this:

the blade cut five of his ribs, a chunk of his shoulderblade, and like three discs of his spine. since it cut through the ribs, it also managed to get to his right lung, and cut open a good gash on it. as you can imagine it tore nerves and tendons and muscles along the way. now, there's also the fact that the blade used was a spiritual weapon, which means it was imbued with energy and very literal very tangible killing intent, which means it also sent a sort of… shock, through xingqiu's spiritual channels (which while not strictly undeveloped, are like still on the process of being trained if that makes any sense. he can't use any spells yet but he will soon). think of it like being electrocuted while he was at it.

so basically by the time zhongli got to him, not only was his body in shock from the pain and the fall face-first to the ground (which only made his fractured and broken ribs and spine and open lung worse), but he was also in a different kind of shock from the energetic assault from the blade to his functionally undeveloped spiritual channels. with the blood from the wound getting into his cut lung (and the pain and the shock) making it hard for him to breathe, xingqiu had been more or less on his last breaths there. if the blade hand't been a spiritual weapon he wouln't have been on death's door so quickly, but alas.

when zhongli and qiqi got there they essentially had two options: use a normal healing spell to keep him from dying and leave the rest of the tedious healing to baizhu and co. (co. here being mostly time ngl) and risk xingqiu sustaining lasting consequences AND traumatizing a bunch of them by the severity of the injury, OR- have qiqi use a direct resurrection rite, since while not quite dead just yet, xingqiu had been more or less slipping away when they got there. like normal medicine wouldn't have been able to save him basically, since his spiritual channels were attacked and those were a good part of the problem. using the resurrection rite would've not only guaranteed his surivival regardless of further treatment (normal or spiritual), but it would've also saved him from most if not all consequences and spared everyone a good chunk of the trauma (if not all of it)

zhongli didn't know for sure whether this world's baizhu used spiritual healing or just normal medicine, so he couldn't risk the first option on that front either (because while yes normal medicine would've still somewhat worked there, it would've left xingqiu with lasting consequences no matter what, and even worse consequences at that), not to mention all the other drawbacks of it too. so basically either they used a normal spell and put xingqiu's normalcy on the line, or used a resurrection rite and pretended zhongli did it to make sure everything would turn out fine

for the record, baizhu does use spiritual healing. idk if it's ever gonna come up, but he's a student of chansheng here, who is a master in one of the chenyu clans (and a human. he does also have a pet snake. unrelated lmao). since lingmeng guhua is technically a chenyu clan, that's why he gets called to these events, bc they all sort of know eachother.

She thought she couldn't protect her daughter, couldn't break the spell but she did protect her daughter; in the most beautiful way too. Millions were singing about her love for her daughter and those millions were constantly protecting Alice for years. I'm actually feral this show is so insane. There's so much love in this show (and so much tragedy) I could talk about each character and everything else forever

It's nap time in the TerzOmega household, and everyone is still getting used to their new routine following the birth of their second child.

It was the early afternoon when Starlight started to get cranky. Right on schedule.

Omega wasn’t surprised; his first child, now a precocious three year old, was blessedly predictable, as far as young children went. His youngest, still a newborn, was not quite so easy-going yet, and after nearly an hour of trying to settle her down for her nap, Astrid and Terzo were finally asleep in their bedroom.

Omega knew he’d likely have to sit and read to Star for about ten minutes before she fell asleep, so he ran to the bathroom first, telling her to stay put. When he returned, of course, she was nowhere to be found. Omega sighed and began hunting for her, checking her room first, hoping to find her waiting with a book. He grimaced when he found her bedroom empty.

As he passed his and Terzo’s room, he glanced through the half-open door, not expecting to find her there as he thought she knew better than to disturb her sister, but he had to backtrack, doing a double take. There was Starlight, laying with her head on the shoulder of a still-sleeping Terzo, eyelids heavy and sucking her thumb.

Omega’s heart melted at the sight. Silently he crossed the room to them, gently sitting on the bed, taking care not to shift too much and risk waking his sleeping husband. Terzo needed all of the rest he could get, since the birth of Astrid. They both did, really, but Terzo had so much anxiety after she was born that he had been struggling hard to fall asleep. He’d come closer to dying once again this time than either of them liked to admit, and they had reluctantly agreed that their second child would have to be their last. The experience had shaken them both.

Omega put a hand to Starlight’s head, brushing her silvery white hair out of her eyes.

“My little Star baby, we need to let Papa and Astrid sleep. Come on, we’ll go nap in your bed,” Omega spoke softly to the toddler. Starlight shook her head, curling up closer to her Papa and clinging to his shirt with the hand that wasn’t in her mouth. Omega couldn’t help the tender smile that threatened to overtake his face.

He couldn't bring himself to be upset with his daughter for wanting to be close to her Papa. He was sure it had been a difficult adjustment, having to share her parents’ attention with a new baby, even though she loved her little sister. Guilt tugged at him. 

Rather than argue and risk causing a commotion, he decided it would be smarter to settle down beside them, placing a hand on his daughter’s back, rubbing slowly. Soon her breathing deepened, became more steady. Even as he was drifting off himself, he couldn’t wipe away the grin. He allowed his eyes to close, grateful for this peaceful moment together as a family.

Terzo opened his eyes groggily, trying to get his bearings. He became aware of his body in increments, eventually noticing the weight pinning his right shoulder. He looked down in confusion, vision still blurry. All he could see was white.

He propped himself up on his opposite elbow, trying to get a better look. His heart sang when he recognized his daughter’s face, looking positively angelic as she slept with her head in the crook of his arm. He chuckled warmly, kissing the crown of her head. He had missed getting as much time with her as he used to, but he knew it would level out once Astrid wasn't as high-demand as she was now. He hoped she realized that this imbalance in attention was temporary; his Star would always be his baby. 

It was then that he noticed Omega’s sleeping form behind her, his hand still resting on her back. Terzo’s stomach did a backflip; all of them sleeping soundly in the same room was a rare sight indeed. He turned his head, craning his neck to check on Astrid in her bassinet, humming happily when he saw that all was well.

Terzo took a moment to reflect on the last few years, on all of the impossibilities that they had overcome, on how lucky they had been. The gratitude soaked bone-deep. He let the warmth he felt in his chest overtake him, lulling him back to sleep.
