The sharp pen of Sibyl Moholy-Nagy (1903-71) was feared by many architects throughout the 1950s and 1960s: for Progressive Architecture, Architectural Forum, Casabella, Bauwelt, Architecture d’aujourd’hui and other periodicals she wrote about contemporary architecture and didn’t hold back her criticism. Unlike many of her colleagues Moholy reflected architecture historically and took a stand for users and inhabitants, a position out of which she criticized Mies van der Rohe’s „facade architecture“.
Her way to becoming an architectural critic, teacher and frequent lecturer nonetheless was stony: born the daughter of a Dresden architect then Sibylle Pietsch, unlike her brother, wasn’t allowed to go to university but instead began an apprenticeship in bookselling which she eventually quit to become an actor in Berlin. Although she acted in different films and plays she eventually became a screenwriter, a position that suited her passion for writing. In Berlin she also met her future husband Laszlo Moholy-Nagy whom she married in 1932 and with whom she went into exile in London and Chicago. Virtually in passing she also gave birth to two daughters.
The death of her husband in 1946, in spite of all the grief, fundamentally changed Sibyl’s life and forced her into an independence that she came to embrace ever more wholeheartedly: living off the occasional sale of her husband’s artworks she had the freedom to lecture on her Laszlo’s work, organize his estate but also write his biography which to this day remains a valuable source.
In 1952 José Luis Sert lured Sibyl to New York to teach architecture at Pratt Institute, a position she received also thanks to some fibs on her CV. With her distinct autodidactic curiosity she also pursued the research into anonymous vernacular architecture that resulted in the book „Native Genius in Anonymous Architecture“, published in 1957.
This adventurous and rich life has been recounted by Hilde Heynen in her lucid and highly readable biography, published in German by Sandstein in 2019, that paints a lively and differentiated picture of a female critic, writer and teacher who was a real rarity in her time.

Some of my safe foods/meals just for myself to keep track of!
Popcorn! Air popped without any butter or salt is around 30 cals per cup! unseasoned popcorn just tastes better than popcorn with butter imo <3
Sugar free gum bc duh! I really like the watermelon flavored gums cuz they taste soso good and they fill my sweet tooth!
These low cal cookies! 50 cals each, love baking these and pairing them with black coffee <3
Cauliflower rice! 27 cals per cup, and super filling! I dont usually eat it by itself, I like to mix it with some protein or veggies!
Rice cakes bc you know the drill, 35 cals each yum yum, I usually pair plain rice cakes with greek yogurt and a few of these stevia-sweetened dark chocolate chips!
Diet Arizona Green Tea! Tbh just any diet drinks, but this ones a personal fan fav! 0 cals, as all drinks should be <3
Shirataki noodles! Tons of fiber, only 5 cals, and filling! Make sure to look up a good way to prep them! I usually boil and stir fry them before eating them!
Boiled eggs! 78 cals each, but still super good for you <3
Teas, teas, and more teas! Theres a tea for everything from metabolism speeding to sleep aid, drink some tea!
Greek Yogurt! This isn't a revelation I've figured out by myself ofc but still! 100 cals per cup, and super healthy! Plus its a great substitute in a lot of cooking!!!!
Canaloupe! 19 calories for a WHOLE wedge! A whole medium sized canaloupe is 180 cals!
Pickles! 7 cals each and suuuuper yummy imo <3 cucumbers are also a major safe food of mine I have them almost every day for a snack!
Soup!!!!! Tomato soup has around 80-100 cals for a whole bowl and its so yummy imo!!!!
Casabella peppers! (yall know those little peppers at in-n-out?) 10 cals each, literally any peppers are my favs, but my friends love to go to in-n-out together with me and I always love getting a diet coke and some casabellas to munch on <3
Chicken! Just in general! 120 for a whole chicken breast is the best thing ever <3
Almond milk! I've always been lactose sensitive so I've never genuinely had regular milk, plus almond milk is 30 cals per cup and full of calcium which is super important for hair and nails!
Miso Soup! My dad's made this stuff for me since I was a wee little kid, its just one of my favorite foods, period! When i found out it was only 50 cals per cup I was absolutely THRILLED

Low cal versions of my favorite meals! I've been experimenting with a bunch of low calorie recipes of different stuff and they've all been great! If you like cooking, it can be a great way to keep busy and keep with your goals! My favs so far are low cal pancakes, low cal tortilla wraps, low cal margarita pizza, etc!
I'll add more as I discover more! Stay safe <3

Offense Powers Cal On Opening Day
Defending Champs Start 2-For-2
SAN DIEGO – The No. 2 California men's water polo team put on an offensive clinic on the first day of the 2024 season, claiming a pair of wins over No. 6 UC Irvine, 20-14 and Claremont, 19-8 at the Triton Invitational.
With the departures of nine seniors from last year – including Paris Olympians Nikolaos Papanikolaou and Adrian Weinberg – the three-time defending NCAA champion Golden Bears headed into the year knowing there would be new opportunities on both sides of the ball, and that was reflected in the opening-day box scores.
Seniors Roberto Valera and Max Casabella picked up right where they left off in 2023, leading the way with seven and five goals on the day, respectively. Against the Anteaters, fellow ACWPC All-American Albert Ponferrada had a huge game with three goals and six assists, while George Avakian dominated in center with three goals and seven earned exclusions.
In the Bears' first game of the day, they cruised to a double-digit victory over CMS behind four goals from Valera and three by Casabella. Cal took a 5-1 first-quarter lead and outscored CMS 10-3 in the second half. Maddox Arlett, Patrik Kolak, Alex Oprea and Bende Pardi all secured braces in their Cal debuts.
Taking on its first ranked opponent of the year in the evening, Cal found itself trailing 10-8 at the half. The Bears turned things on right out of the break, as Ponferrada converted a power play and then found Avakian for an equalizer less than two minutes into the third. Ponferrada added two more assists before the quarter's end and Casabella scored twice to put the Bears up 13-12 heading into the fourth.
It was all Cal from there. The Bears started the final frame with an onslaught, getting a pair of quick goals from Valera and another two from Pardi and Arlett to go up 17-12 with 5:04 to go. Cal ended up outsourcing UCI 7-2 in the quarter after two late goals from senior Jake Howerton put the game to bed. Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Riley Clansen – who played every minute in goal on Saturday – finished the game with seven saves.
