Embracing Elegance: The Allure of Designer Sarees
In the realm of fashion, few garments can claim the timeless elegance and cultural significance that a saree does. A traditional attire that has graced the Indian subcontinent for centuries, the saree is more than just a piece of clothingâit's a symbol of grace, tradition, and identity. Among the myriad styles and types, the designer saree stands out, combining traditional charm with contemporary aesthetics to create a versatile and sophisticated garment.
A Brief History of the Saree
The saree has a rich history dating back to the Indus Valley Civilization, around 28001800 BCE. This ancient garment, traditionally a long piece of cloth, typically five to nine yards in length, is draped elegantly around the body. The saree has evolved over time, reflecting the cultural and social changes within Indian society. What began as a simple, functional garment has now transformed into a fashion statement that symbolizes both cultural heritage and modern sophistication.
 The Evolution of Designer Sarees
Designer sarees are a relatively recent phenomenon in the long history of this traditional attire. They represent a blend of traditional craftsmanship and modern design sensibilities, catering to the evolving tastes of contemporary women. The infusion of unique patterns, intricate embroidery, and innovative draping styles have elevated the saree from a traditional staple to a highfashion garment.
 Key Elements of Designer Sarees
1. Fabric: The choice of fabric is crucial in a designer saree. Luxurious materials like silk, chiffon, georgette, and crepe are often used to enhance the saree's elegance. Each fabric has its own unique drape and feel, adding a distinct charm to the overall look.
2. Embroidery and Embellishments: Intricate embroidery, beading, and sequins are hallmarks of designer sarees. Techniques such as zardozi, chikankari, and gota patti add depth and richness to the fabric, creating a visually stunning piece.
3. Color Palette: Designer sarees often feature a diverse color palette, ranging from traditional reds and golds to contemporary pastels and neons. The choice of color can transform a saree from a classic piece to a bold fashion statement.
4. Blouse Designs: The blouse, an integral part of the saree ensemble, has seen significant innovation in designer sarees. From halter necks to backless designs, the blouse adds a modern twist to the traditional outfit.
The Popularity of Designer Sarees in Modern Fashion
Designer sarees have become a favorite choice for various occasions, from weddings and festivals to red carpet events. Celebrities and fashion icons frequently don these elegant drapes, further popularizing them on the global stage. The versatility of the saree, coupled with innovative designs, makes it a goto attire for women who want to make a style statement.
 Buying Designer Sarees Online
The digital age has revolutionized the way we shop, and designer sarees are no exception. Online platforms offer a vast array of options, making it easier for consumers to find the perfect saree. Here are some tips for buying designer sarees online:
1. Research: Take time to explore different online stores and compare their collections. Look for customer reviews and ratings to gauge the quality and authenticity of the products.
2. Know Your Measurements: Accurate measurements are crucial for a perfect fit. Most online stores provide detailed size charts to help you choose the right size.
3. Check Return Policies: Ensure that the online store has a clear and flexible return policy in case the saree does not meet your expectations.
4. Authenticity: Be cautious of counterfeit products. Purchase from reputed and wellknown designers or online stores that guarantee authenticity.
5. Customization: Some online stores offer customization options, allowing you to tailor the saree to your preferences. This can include custom embroidery, personalized blouse designs, and specific color choices.
 Caring for Your Designer Saree
Owning a designer saree is an investment, and proper care is essential to maintain its beauty and longevity. Here are some tips to keep your saree looking pristine:
1. Dry Cleaning: Always dry clean your saree to preserve the fabric and embellishments.
2. Storage: Store the saree in a cool, dry place. Use a muslin cloth to wrap the saree, preventing any damage from moisture or insects.
3. Ironing: Be cautious while ironing. Use a low heat setting and place a cotton cloth over the saree to avoid direct heat.
4. Handling: Handle the saree gently, especially if it has heavy embroidery or embellishments. Avoid wearing sharp jewelry that might snag the fabric.
 Conclusion
Designer sarees epitomize the perfect blend of tradition and modernity, offering an unparalleled elegance that transcends time. As the fashion industry continues to evolve, the designer saree remains a testament to the enduring allure of this iconic garment. Whether draped in the opulence of silk or the fluidity of chiffon, a designer saree is a statement of style, sophistication, and cultural pride. Embrace the elegance of designer sarees and add a touch of timeless beauty to your wardrobe.

⨠things that make my life feel expensive â¨
Always being curious to learn and actively pursuing knowledge. This is #1 for me. Constantly be trying to elevate yourself with information. There's no better time than now to be able to learn new things. Psychology, theory, fiction, persuasion, finance, history, emotional growth, nutrition, beauty, time management, philosophy, politics, strategy, classic literature, art, high fashion, hard sciences, technology, investing. There's so many things to learn about. There are a lot of free courses out there as well.
Having manners and etiquette. Smile at people. Be friendly. Be especially kind to people working in the service industry, retail, customer service.
Being well spoken. Limit profanity and slang. Don't gossip or say anything about yourself in a negative light. Think before you speak. It's okay to pause, think, and articulate.
Water, tea, freshly squeezed or cold pressed juices in champagne flutes or wine glasses.
Making fancy cocktails (or mocktails!) and putting them in proper glasses, with stirrers. It helps if you have a bar setup too, I have a cute lil bar cart with all the fixings.
Expensive smelling candles. They don't have to actually be expensive, they just need to look cute and smell good.
Fresh flowers.
Taking bubble baths.
Cooking delicious recipes from scratch, and eating at the dining room table with a full setup. Candles, glassware, cloth napkins, jazz music in the background, the whole nine yards. Ambience is everything.
Drinking tea in the afternoon out of a teapot and teacup.
Natural air fresheners. Essential oil diffusers, incense, reed diffusers. I'm a big fan of fresh eucalyptus bundles in the shower too.
Salt lamps and battery operated candles. I try to live off of low, warm lighting and sunlight as much as I can.
Houseplants.
Buying cute crystals and setting up an altar to myself. I have a pretty silk scarf laid out on the end of my vanity, with crystals, sage, written affirmations, etc.
Silk robes.
Big fluffy bathrobes.
Sunlight. Get as much as you can, even in the winter. Go outside in your puffy coat if you have to.

Opposites Attract
Erik!Stevens x Black!Reader
- - - - - - - - - -
Erik and (Y/N) are the perfect example of opposites attract.
Warning:Â strong language, cursing
- - - - - - - - - -
It was funny how to small little things that could get Erik going. He never thought that he would actually like (Y/N). Erik definitely had a type. He liked the expensive girls. The toxic type. The ones that would slap the shit outta you just by looking in another womenâs direction. He couldnât count on his hands and toes how many of his exes fought each other, over him.
(Y/N) though, yeah there was something different about her. She enjoyed the little things in life. Giving her extra cash to a homeless person, helping out at food banks and charity events. She was quiet and to herself.
They were literally the complete opposite of each other. Erik was a hood nigga. Whole nine yards. It was in the way he walked and talked. People knew who he was and he got respect for it.
(Y/N) was a good girl. Spent her days crocheting blankets, baking different recipes she found online, and she owned her own Dance Studio.
(Y/N) was slowly starting to rub off on Erik. Obviously she canât take the hood outta him but he found himself more calm and relaxed when she was around. He found himself rather being with her, being forced to watch some cringe Netflix show then to be in a hot ass club.
Saturdays she loved going to different thrift stores in the city to find something cool. Whether it was clothes, little antiques, pictures. Erik always asked her,
âWhy donât you just let me buy you these things. You donât have to wear what someone else wore,â
Sheâd always come back with, âWhy spend a lot of money when you can get quality good stuff for cheap?â she would say in a duh tone.
Erik had money. Being in the military and all, and now being an undercover hitman. He always wanted to spoil her but she was so damn stubborn. His last exes wouldnât think about turning him down, so it caught her off guard.
She even convinced him of going. At first, he told her no. Personally he thought it was weird. After begging he said he would go.
Her main focus this trip was to find some flower pots and some decorations for her Dance studio. As she was looking at different paintings, she heard Erik gasp. âAyo what the fuck..â she looked back at him to see him holding an action figure that was still in perfect condition.
âWhatâs that?â
He showed it to her. âDo you know how much this thing is worth? Man I remember when this first came out. Shit was like 200 dollars and I begged my dad to get it for me but we ainât have it.â he said looking at it in awe.
âSo get it.â she shrugged her shoulders as he chuckled.
âIâm a grown man, I donât play with kid toys.â he said as she playfully rolled her eyes.
âYou donât have to play with it. It could be a sentiment objects, ya know? Put it on a shelf or on a table. Just buy it so because baby Erik couldnât.â she said then grabbed it looking at the price.
âAnd itâs only 15 bucks.â she said. She then threw it in the cart. Erik raised an eyebrow at her. âWhat? You could put it in your game room as decoration. No offense but that shit is plain as hell.â she told him as he pinched her sides.
Now, every Saturday like clock work, Erik and her would go to a random city just to go thrift shopping. It was hard to admit it but Erik was taking a liking to this thrifting habit.
It was around 5 oâclock in the morning. Erik woke up to the sounds of (Y/N) snoring in his ear. It was funny actually because she swore up and down she didnât snore and here she was sounding like a bear in hibernation. The sun was just rising, so minimum light was entering the room but he could still see her. She was naked, wrapped up in his white sheets. She slept on her stomach while she had her head rested on her arms, her mouth slights opened with her snores escaping. Her eye twitched a bit.
He ordered her some silk pillow cases for his house for the times she forgot to put her scarf on. Last night he dicked her down so good, as soon as her head hit the pillow she was out. Her hair was short and curly, but her curls were all over the place.
Erik looked down at the tent in the sheets. Yeah, he definitely needed a piece of her. He turned over on his side to look at her, trailing his hands down her back and to her ass.
âGood morning beautiful.â he said placing kisses on her shoulder. She started to stir in her sleep but she didnât wake up. âDaddy needs you.â he whispered in her ear. âYou gonna let me get in this pussy, hmm?â She was slowly waking up, feeling the butterflies in her stomach already just by how close he was and she hadnât even opened her eyes yet.
âBabe, itâs too early.â
âIt ainât never to early. You giving up the pussy huh? I know she still fat and sensitive. I just wanna play.â he said to her. The way he talked was what got her in trouble. There was already a pool of wetness between her thighs and her eyes still wasnât opened.
He put her on her back, her eyes slowly opening to see him smiling down at her. âHi fats.â
âHi.â she said wiping her eyes. âDo you ever get tired?â she asked him tilting her head to the side. His finger tips found her stiff nipples playing with them as she bit her lip.
âTired of you? Okay..â he said rolling her eyes making her laugh.
âI havenât even brush my teeth yet.â she said about to sit up but he stopped her. He didnât say anything when his fingers found her center, slowly starting to rub circular motions on her clit. Shit bit her lip, closing her eyes.
âNah, look at me.â Erik was crazy about eye contact. Seeing her stages of pleasure through her eyes, the changes he sees when he does something different just does something for him.
Her eyes slowly started to open, him standing there with that gorgeous ass, two dimpled smile. How could he look so innocent doing something like this?
âBabyâŚâ she whimpered out grabbing his arm. Without responding, he took his middle and ring finger, entering her collecting some of her wetness making her moan. He bought to his lips, tasting it groaning. He bought his lips to hers, finally getting to taste her.
âI hope you know youâre not getting any right now.â she said to him through heavy breaths. She wanted to go to the studio earlier to freshen up before heading to her classes. She knew that if they went at it right now, they would be going at it for hours. Thatâs how tempting this man can be.
He smacked his teeth before laying on the side of her. She turned to face him. âBut, Iâll come home early today. So I can spend time with you.â she told him grabbing his chin with her thumb and pointy finger.
âHmm, okay. We can try that new hibachi grill downtown. Get all dolled up. Then after have a little fun of our own.â he said kissing up her neck, she slightly pushed him away.
âBoy you ainât slick.â she sat up, looking back at him as he laid straight on his back with his hands behind his head.
âYour hair looks a mess. Look like you just got the dick of your life.â he laughed as she rolled her eyes playfully. She grabbed her phone off of their electric night stand looking at the time. âIma go take shower. Do me a favor and water my plants for me.â she stood up as he smacked her ass. She gave him âan are you seriousâ look.
âIt was just there. But yeah I can.â he stood up stretching as she walked to their bathroom. He walked out filling the green water can up and watering them.
Erik couldnât help but chuckle. Never in a million years, he wouldâve thought that a girl would have him watering her plants. He canât lie though, he picked up a few tips from her to help grow his weed. His customers said that it was the best they ever had.
After doing that, he doordashed her a meal from her favorite coffee shop and grabbing something for him too. He was cleaning the kitchen, when she came out with her towel wrapped around her body and her hair still wet.Â
âThanks baby.â she kissed him on the cheek as he looked her up and down.Â
âYou donât want to give me none but youâre walking around looking like this, fats?â he said licking his bottom lip. She smirked to herself before saying,Â
âItâs not like you wonât be able to do anything about it.â she whispered in his ear. He raised an eyebrow at her.Â
âI wonât? Quick playin with me before I have yo ass in bed all day.â she turned around âaccidentallyâ dropping the dish sponge on the floor.Â
âWhoops.â she bent down grabbing it. He went behind her placing his hands in the middle of her back to make her stay.Â
âStay just like that mamas.â he said lifting the towel up, only to see her bare pussy winking back at him.
âErik-â she was cut off by him pressing his print against her, slowly grinding against it. He grabbed a good handful of her hair, pulling her back up. He pushed her against the counter making her pushed against the counter and him.Â
âDidnât I say to quick playin with me? Now you got my dick hard.â he growled in her ear as she closed her eyes smiling.
âI know but-âÂ
âBut nothing.â he yanked the towel off of her as he wrapped his hands around her neck from the front. He was about to pull his dick out but the doorbell ring. She groaned as he cursed.
âWho is that?â she asked him.Â
âI ordered us some breakfast and I forgot.â he backed away looking at her as she turned around. His eyes trailed down her body as she tilted her head.Â
âWell are you gonna get that or just stare at me?â she asked him. He took one last good look at her before he walked to his foyer to open the door. She picked up the towel and walked back into his room.Â
He came back to see her and the towel gone. He groaned, placing the bag of food on the counter. He walked back to the room, to see her getting dressed.Â
âWhat you getting dressed for?â he asked her as she turned around.Â
âErik.. I have to go do my classes.â she said as he rolled his eyes.
âMhm. You werenât worried about those classes when I was just about to dig in yo-â she grabbed a pillow throwing it at him. He caught it before walking closer to the bed where she was standing next to it. He threw it on the bed before he placed his hand on her cheek.Â
âYouâre not going to convince me other wise.â she said. âIâll be back home and after we come back from dinner, Iâll make it up to you. I promise.â she whispered to him as he sighed looked down.Â
âFine. But this-â he moved his fingers between the both of them. âAinât over with.â he told her. She kissed him once more before tapping his face lightly.Â
âDonât miss me too much and thanks for breakfast!â she screamed walking out of the bedroom.Â
- - - - - - - - - -
Erik stepped out of his 2022 Audi R8, looking around the neighborhood. He walked to the door unlocking it, seeing a bunch of product on the tables. âTrent! You here?â he asked throwing his keys on the table. Trent came from down the hall way giving him a bro hug.Â
Trent was Erikâs right hand man who helped him run his ring. He was one of the only few people he could trust.Â
âAye..â Trent greeted him. âYour half is in the safe.â Erik followed him into the back room with his duffle bag on his shoulder.Â
âHow much did we make?â Erik asked him placing his bag on the table and going to unlock the pin lock.Â
â189 Thousand. All of that in there is your share.â he explained to him. Erik stuffed the stacks into the bag before Trent leaned on the table looking at Erik. Erik noticed that he was staring at him before saying,
âSomething you gotta say?â he asked him as Trent nodded.Â
âActually yeah. Trinity stopped by.â Erikâs jaw clenched at the name of her. That was something that he was already over and had forgotten. It was just the fact that he wasnât expecting to hear from her.Â
âOh.. what did she want?â Erik asked not looking at him, continuing to place the stacks into the bag.Â
âYou.â Trent cleared his throat standing up right. âErik donât fuck-â
âNigga Iâm not even thinking of her like that. I only want (Y/N).â he reminded him as Trent threw his hands up. Trent knew the relationship Trinity and Erik had. How toxic that two of them were and how Erik was when he finally called it quicks with her. Trent knew as soon as Trinity had enough time to say something to him, she manipulate him into thinking he was the bad one all along.Â
âOkay! I just donât want you to fuck up what you already have going on.â he said referring to (Y/N). âShe messed you up bad. We canât afford that shit no more.â he reminded him. When they officially broke up, for a few weeks he was out of it. He didnât even want to talk to anyone. That effecting operations for their ring.Â
âTrust me. Iâm not even worried about her...â he zipped up the bag, throwing the bag over his shoulder. âI just wanna know why she felt so damn bold enough to come though.â he said while they both walked outside to his car.Â
âAny plans for the night. Some of us were planning on going out tonight. Prolly hit up some clubs on the strip.â he told him.Â
âNah fam. I promised (Y/N) Iâd take her out to eat after I got back.â Erik told her as Trent nodded. Trent was about to say something but a car pulled into the drive way.Â
âWho is that?â Erik looked at him, only seeing the annoyed expression on his face. As soon as he saw that, he concluded who it was. âTrinity.âÂ
âRemember what I told you.â He gave him a bro hug before walking back into the house. Erik seen him walk into the house but he heard the car door open and close. He slowly turned around before opening his own car door.Â
âErik!â she called out for him walking closer to the car.Â
âHowâd you know Iâd be here?â Was all he asked her. She shrugged her shoulders before saying,Â
âI know you come on Fridayâs to pick up your share.â she told him as he nodded scratching the back of his neck. âI miss you.â she said leaning on his back door, he laughed in her face.Â
âI donât know whether thatâs true or not but I really donât care enough to find out. Now if you excuse me I-â he was cut off by her rolling her eyes and saying,Â
âYou know you miss me too Erik. You can stop playing that game now because I know for a fact that you do.â she attempted to convince him but he shook his headÂ
âNo you donât. You just miss the idea of me.â he said to her. âAnd I donât miss you. Iâve moved on to bigger and better things.â he bragged to her. That made her laugh because the thought of someone being more cute or more bad than her was a foreign topic.Â
âOh what? The dance teacher? That lame ass bitch, I am not scared. Sheâs not going to do shitâ she said with a smirk on her face.Â
âOh you say something to her, Iâll put a fucking bullet between your eyes. Understand?â he warned her as she scoffed. She shook her head looking down at the ground then back at him.Â
âWhat happened to us, Erik? We easily use to make our way back to each other but now you-âÂ
âBut now I donât want you anymore. Especially after everything you done to me.â
Erik rubbed his temples annoyed at the fact that they were having another argument over something so stupid. âTrinity can you just shut up and sit down. I didnât do nothing with her!â he yelled defending himself. He stood up walking towards her as she backed away.Â
âNigga fuck you! Why that hoe came up to me and told me that!?â she asked grabbing the plates that were in the drying rack, throwing it at him.Â
âWhat the hell, calm the fuck down!?â he exclaimed ducking out of the way. She ran out of plates as he grabbed her hands putting her against the wall.Â
âI fucking hate you! And my dumb ass was sitting up here feeling bad because I cheated!â she yelled in his face as he pulled away. He looked at her in shock, backing away.Â
âSay that shit again.â she started to laugh hysterically at him.
âOh you can do it but wanna get all hurt when I do it. Youâre such a fucking hypocrite.â She suspected him to say something to her once she said that, but he just stared at her.
He nodded his head turning around. âGet out.â Was all he said before he walked into the living room, but she followed him.Â
âWhat do you-â
âYou have 20 minutes to get the fuck outta my house before I put you out myself.â he snapped at herÂ
âYouâre so ridiculous. You cheated and-â
âWhat the fuck do you not understand dumb ass, I have never cheated on you!â he yelled at her. âGet your shit and leave.â
âI would have done anything for you but you fucked that up.â he snarled at her. âIf you knew how I really felt, you wouldnât be sitting up in my face with that goofy ass face.â he snapped at her.Â
âI fucking hate you.âÂ

(Y/N) was in his bathroom, fresh out the shower. She was brushing her teeth when she looked up in the mirror to see him standing there.Â
âWhat the- Erik you scared me!?â she yelled hitting him in his chest. He busted out laughing grabbing his chest as she turned around rinsing her mouth.Â
âIâm sorry fats.â he said wrapping his arms around her waist. He kissed her shoulder before massaging her hips. âSo, I had a visitor at one of the houses.â he whispered as she opened her eyes from her relax state, looking at him through the mirror.
âGonna tell me who?â she asked him.Â
âTrinity.â As soon as the name came out of his mouth, she looked at him in shock. She knew about how her and Erik broke up and how their relationship was. Honestly she was surprised that she was even Erikâs type considering that her and Trinity are complete opposite of each other. Â
She noticed before Erik and her got into a relationship how different they were but yet she felt like he was a soul mate. She questioned herself usually if Erik really did like her but he did more than just tell her that he wanted her. He showed her that he wanted her.Â
âReally/ What did she want?â she asked him looking into the sink.Â
âShe was saying how she missed me.â he whispered placing his chin on her forehead. âSaid how she wasnât scared of you, blah blah.â he said then sighed as she looked back up at him.Â
âHowâd she know where you were going to be?â she asked him.
âShe knows I go over there to get my money on Fridayâs. She shouldnât be showing up anymore,â he comforted her. He noticed the concern look on her face before grabbing her hips and turning her around.Â
âYou know I wouldnât do something stupid right? I love you too muchâ he reminded her as she smiled at him.Â
âI know. I just donât to get hurt.â she whispered looking down at herself playing with her hands. Erik lifted her head by her chin and whispered,Â
âI wonât. I promise.â

Goodbye Crib
Harry Styles x Melody Styles
(part of the styles fam series)
Harry and Melody's daughter has an accident involving her crib, making Harry make the decision to say bye-bye to the baby bed.
Warning: none
Word count: 1.3k+
gif not mine.
âGood morning, gorgeous.â Melody felt the lengthy hands of her husband wrap around her waist momentarily. âNow, what are you making.â
The two of them leaned up against the counter of their large kitchen in their house in Malibu, which was one of several of the homes that the two of them owned. It was early in the morning, only being around nine a.m.
Melody in the kitchen was a sight to see for Harry, and he loved it. The way she wore her much oversized hoodie from university, paired with some of her favorite silk pajama shorts and Harryâs old slippers that she found to the side of their bed this morning. It was Harryâs favorite way to see his wife.
âGood morning to you, too.â She laughs as Harry reaches over her shoulder to grab at the eggs laying on the plate sitting on the counter.
âItâs oddly quiet down here.â Harry smirks into his wifeâs shoulder, making her lean back to rest her head on his shoulder. âIt almost feels like somethingâs missing.â
âOh, by something do you mean the two kids who overtake our chaotic life, along with the dog you just had to have?â She asks sarcastically, making him roll his eyes.
âOi!â He pinched lightly at her hips, making her shriek and fall back into his chest. âYou love all of our children, including the one in your tummy, and you especially love the dog.â
RIght as Harry finished his sentence, there was a loud sound of something falling that echoed through the house, followed by a shrill cry.
Oh god.
The couple looked at each other with wide eyes before Harry detached his arms from around Melodyâs waist, both of them turning from where they were leaning against the counter in the kitchen to make their way towards where they heard the continuous crying coming from.
Harry and Melody could determine who was crying from a mile away. The way they could hear the cry of the little girl continuously getting caught in her throat was a tell-all sign that it was their middle child who was making the whimpering noise
âKennedy!â Harry shouts as he and his wife trekked quickly up the stairs. âKennedy Paige!â
No response.
âWhat the hell is happening.â Harry mutters under his breath once he finally reaches the top of the stairs, starting down the hallway where their two childrenâs bedrooms were located.
âI have no idea.â Melody gasps from behind Harry. For being barely two months pregnant, she was already out of breath just from running up the flight of stairs.
When they did finally reach the entrance of their youngest childâs room, the first thing they saw was their little girl, laying on the floor of her bedroom, clutching her face while screaming and crying.
Both of them had way too many questions, but before they had the chance to ask them, they were already fleeing towards their daughter.
âKennedy, what hurts?â
âGrant, what happened?â
Both enquiries were directed towards different children, Harry taking the opportunity to attempt to ask Kennedy what had happened, Melody opting to tend to Grant, who looked quite frazzled.
âDaddy, daddy.â Sobs were racking the little girl's small frame as she looked up at her father, reaching towards him with her arms.
He quickly scooped her up into his grasp, her arms reaching around his neck. âItâs okay, Kenn, itâs okay.â Harry was trying to comfort her, but her cries werenât seeming to die down anytime soon.
âOw, ow, ow!â She screamed again as Harry tried to pull her hand back from her face, only making the little girl hide her face further into her fathers neck.
âGrant, what happened to your sister?â Melody tried asking again, making Grant look up at her.
âI donât know, I heard her trying to get out of her crib and I went into your guysâ room to look at the camera and then I heard her fall!â Grant was basically in shambles attempting to tell her the story that he didnât quite know himself.
âOkay, Kennedy, youâre going to have to tell me what hurts.â Harry held the back of her head, pulling her face just far enough away from his chest to examine her head surrounding areas to see if he could spot any injuries.
He noticed the heavy gasping of his daughter, âTake a breath, Kenn.â He tried his best to soothe her.
She took a small inhale, looking up at her father, making him notice her already swollen eye.
âOh my goodness, it looks like you got in a yard fight, little girl.â Melody looked at her daughterâs eye, which was already beginning to turn blue from bruising.
âIt hurts, mama!â Kennedy was pushing the palms of her hands into the socket of her eyes,
âHere,â Melody grabs the young girlâs hands, pulling them away from her face and holding them gently in her own. âStop touching your eyes, thatâs only gonna make it worse.â
Harry was eyeing Kennedy the entire time Melody was talking to her, surveying for any other type of discomfort she displayed. She was still laying limply in his arms, clutching the collar of his shirt.
It had taken quite a while for Harry to calm Kennedy down after her accident, but eventually she had stopped crying and subsided once Harry thought of the idea to sit with her in the rocking chair. She was still breathing heavy, and sniffling, but at least she wasnât sobbing anymore, and that was one thing for Harry to be grateful for.
âAre you tired, baby?â He looked down at her, her face squished against his chest, pulling on the buttons that trailed down the front of her shirt. âI know you just woke up, but all that crying had to have tried you out. Maybe we can take an early nap today, huh?â
Harry didnât even notice that Melody was standing in the doorway until he stood up from the rocking chair, Kennedy still sprawled out in his arms.
âGuess itâs the end of the crib era, huh?â She asked her husband as she smoothed down the small baby hairs that were running along Kennedyâs face.
âYup, sheâs done sleeping in that thing. Iâm not having another accident like that happen again, I canât stand to see her hurt, let alone with a fucking blackeye.â Melody could tell that Harry was angry with the whole situation, he hated seeing his children in any discomfort or pain.
âI know, I know. But on the brightside, I think sheâll remember this for now and will probably be too scared to try and get out of the crib by herself anymore.â Melody shrugged, but Harry didnât budge.
âYou might be right, but Iâm not taking that chance. They donât make cribs safe enough anymore, this is ridiculous.â
She tried not to laugh as her husbandâs obvious overbearing side began to shine through. âOkay honey, donât blame the crib now, we could just buy one of those safety nets that goes over the top of the crib that stops her from trying to get out.â
âUntil she rips through it, or rips it off in general.â He mutters, âIâm telling you right now, Melody, Iâm not taking the change of her getting hurt again. Weâll order her a toddler bed online, and sheâll just sleep with us until it comes.â
âOkay, okay.â Melody finally backs down, making Harry sigh in relief as he holds Kennedy closer to his chest.
âDaddy?â The little girl rubs her non-bruised eye as she looks up at Harry.
âSay goodbye to your crib, baby, because youâre never stepping another foot in it ever again.â
He smiles, demonstrating a wave towards the wooden baby bed, Kennedy following his motion as they walk out of the room.
He speaks one last word before shutting the door to her bedroom, âBye-bye crib.â

The Portrait Dress: BTS, Part 1
I did say I was going to document my process on this project, didnât I?
Well, Iâve not started as other things are currently kicking my ass, but I can certainly discuss something that consumed me and was the actual lynchpin on whether or not I could actually make this dress.
FINDING THE RIGHT FABRIC.
Fair warning, this may get technical and boring, but this really i the mentality of the process I/Magda would go through.
Samples.
Samples, samples, samples, samples. I can not stress how important it is to actually see and feel and touch the fabric youâll be wearing, especially since a good bit of fabric is bought online these days. It saves you a LOT of heartache and headache from realising you bought the wrong fabric and now you have an entirely useless roll of it.
Go to fabric stores or outlets. Walk the aisles. Touch the fabric. See how it hangs, folds, and interacts with other fabrics. Iâve had colors completely change when placed next to each other. Oh, is that a lovely light platinum? Wouldnât it be a pity if it suddenly turned BLUE or showed a GREEN tinge to it when put up against other fabric you like?Â
You will know what youâre looking for. Say you see a beautiful roll that looks the proper weight... until you touch it, and it feel stiff, coarse, or... worst of all... oily. Not in a greasy manner, but in a polyester/petroleum based way.Â
Also, no, you wonât look like a weirdo if you carry around a bolt of fabric and look for a good lining or pairing. Iâve carried five to six foot long ROLLS around.
Samples also help tell the truth of what is being sold.
This sample? Described as 100% Indian silk, running at around $200 a yard, and sold either wholesale or through select high-end sites. When I got this sample, it was incredibly stiff and clearly polyester. Buyer beware.
Another reason why buying samples is important?
LIGHTING.
This holds very true if you are buying online, because you donât know what light theyâre using to photograph the fabric. They could have the best, pure white light, but that may not be what you have. They could also have directed light, which can be annoying as hell and rather deceiving. Let me show you.
These are nine of the samples that I bought, lit by an overhead bulb and my much brighter sewing light. The sample I ended up going is the darkest one in the group of four (lower right). And yes, I whited out where I bought the fabric from because Iâm a little protective of my sources.
And here are the samples with only the overhead on. Note the difference in color.
The â$200 Indian silkâ under my sewing light. The design, which looked woven on at first is clearly painted or silkscreened, adding to the stiffness and giving it a raised look.
Lighting angles can also change things dramatically, as fabrics can have luster and shine to them, or even two different color tones.. The portrait has Alcina with a dark, reddish-brown wrap. Here are the silk samples I bought. In the online shop, there was barely any difference in the images, but here?
Angled side shot and direct overhead shot. What happens when you buy a lovely copper and then find it has a green overtone to it when you hold it at an angle? Or a dusky rose that goes brown?
Play with your samples. Compare them to one another, and through a process of elimination, youâll eventually be able to pick what is right.
In the end, I wound up choosing a two-toned red-black fabric that I already had in my stash, but this was still a good exercise in learning.
What is the lesson? Take time in choosing your fabric. It will make a world of difference.
Next time, Iâll talk the little details; accessories, the hat, and maybe patterns.

This holiday season, the hottest place to shop in Los Angeles wonât be on shoppersâ paradise Rodeo Drive, but in a warehouse in the cityâs grubby garment district. Thatâs where A Current Affair, one of the worldâs hottest vintage marketplaces, will be on December 7.
High-end vintage fashion is having an unprecedented moment, and A Current Affairâs founder Richard Wainwright â resolutely shy in his thick-rimmed glasses, patterned button-down shirt and jeans â is right in the middle of it.
Wainwright has the perfect pedigree for vintage â he has degrees in fashion marketing and merchandising from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, and in history of art from the University of California, Berkeley.
âVintage has always played a role in my life,â says Wainwright. âI started collecting at an early age. Back then, we didnât really have â
fast fashion
â so combining items found at thrift stores and yard sales was both a creative outlet and a practical way to afford clothing [that] my parents wouldnât otherwise buy me.â
Shoppers trying on items at A Current Affair.
When Wainwright started A Current Affair nine years ago, the event had only 17 exhibitors.
âToday, we are now a community of over 200 sellers popping up in Los Angeles, Brooklyn and the San Francisco Bay Area seven times a year, in addition to trunk shows ⌠and we did an event at [department store] Isetan in Tokyo this autumn. There is nowhere else to shop that compares to A Current Affair,â Wainwright says proudly, describing the marketplaceâs clothes as âthe best vintage on the planetâ.
A vintage look at A Current Affair.
Liz Baca, with her fiancĂŠ Michael DâAndrade, is the owner of The Goods, an appointment-only showroom of designer vintage clothes in Los Angeles, and a vendor at A Current Affair.
âThe vintage marketplace has exploded,â says Baca. âWhen I began, people didnât really understand what I did. Today, everyone sells vintage clothing. Itâs become mainstream.â
The world of high-end vintage is not what you get at your local second-hand shop. Instead of costume jewellery, old flannels and luggage from the 1960s, itâs more 19th-century lace gowns, 1920s cocktail dresses adorned with hand-sewn bead work and feathers, and chunky solid gold jewellery from the decadent â80s.
Band shirts can still be found at A Current Affair, but they might set you back several hundred US dollars.
A vintage fur coat at A Current Affair.
A vintage dress at A Current Affair. The appeal of vintage is wide and varied, and pieces are often one of a kind. The chances of you showing up to a party where someone is wearing the same pencil skirt from the 1940s as you are is almost non-existent. And, because of their age, vintage pieces have a story to tell.
Yes, designer threads tell the world that you have plenty of money, but vintage clothes have history â and the romance of a new couture ball gown pales in comparison to that of a century-old silk.
Anyone who isnât wearing vintage has a one-dimensional view of fashion, and it reads as flat and boring in todayâs over-saturated visual environmentA Current Affairâs founder Richard Wainwright
Common criticisms of vintage clothes â that they show wear and tear or look worn â are seen as something to be proud of by many clothes lovers. The patina of an already cherished garment is something that no amount of chemical treatment or factory distressing can emulate.
Broader economic trends are also at work. Retail is in trouble, and bricks-and-mortar stores are struggling to stay afloat across the board â some fast-fashion brands, such as Forever 21, have already filed for bankruptcy and closed their stores.
Meanwhile, A Current Affair feels vital and packed with shoppers â including fashion icons like Donald Glover â on the day we visited a pop-up in September.
âIt feels as if we are the only type of fashion retail that is booming,â says Wainwright. âEveryone complains that retail is dead but our shows are very much alive.â
Why are millennials in Malaysia and Singapore deserting H&M?
While some of the vendors at A Current Affair have shops, the majority conduct their business online, or through rented by-appointment-only show rooms. Vintage doesnât require bricks-and-mortar stores to stay afloat. Social media, especially platforms like Instagram, have been a godsend for vintage purveyors. Instagram offers a way for sellers to display their wares to their targeted audiences anywhere in the world without significant overheads.
âFashionable people have always turned to vintage, but in this age of social media there is added pressure to have things that no one else does or to combine things in unique ways,â says Wainwright. âAnyone who isnât wearing vintage has a one-dimensional view of fashion, and it reads as flat and boring in todayâs over-saturated visual environment. â

Vintage is also a sustainable option in a time when people are increasingly aware of the environmental impact and human toll of fast fashion. It is essentially recycling, without the buyer having to bear responsibility for its sourcing and manufacture. And, even if the piece you buy is originally from a large fashion house, the money you spend goes to small business retailers, not large corporations.
Until recently, the biggest obstacle to vintage overtaking traditional fashion was the Asian market, where online statistics portal Statista expects fashion sales to hit almost US$362 billion this year.
Historically, vintage, at the risk of generalisation, just didnât check the boxes that many Asian buyers are looking for in status clothes: big name label recognition, bleeding-edge trendiness and price tags that are as jaw-dropping as they are widely known. In China (the largest market by far) there are legal restrictions around importing second-hand clothes. There are even superstitions against wearing vintage â like the belief that wearing a dead personâs clothes will upset the original ownerâs ghost.
How a fast-fashion boycott could help save the world
This is changing fast. Japan has long led the way in Asian interest in vintage, with
Tokyo now a mecca for the most dedicated vintage enthusiasts
. This fervour, however, is global. There are major vintage markets in many Asian metropolises, including Bangkok, Beijing, Tokyo and Seoul, that are often considered just as hip as â or even more hip â than big label stores or glitzy shopping districts.
After English, the most commonly spoken language at the A Current Affair pop-up in Los Angeles in September was Mandarin. A Current Affair also hosted its first Asian pop-up event in Tokyo last month, presenting more than 500 vintage pieces curated for the Japanese market to eager crowds in the cityâs Shinjuku neighbourhood.
âI have certainly noticed an interest in vintage clothing spread in the Asian markets,â says Baca. âThese days, interest there is just as widespread as other markets. I see it only growing bigger.â
A vintage dress at A Current Affair.
The global shift towards vintage over fast fashion in the last few years has been drastic, and is poised to accelerate further still.
New York University business professor Scott Galloway predicted, as reported in the Australian newspaper Sydney Morning Herald last month, that global second-hand clothes sales will overtake fast fashion within nine years â and the numbers bear this out.
In 2018, according to Statista, the American vintage clothing market was worth US$24 billion, compared to US$35 billion for fast fashion. In nine years, analysts expect the second-hand clothes industry to reach US$64 billion, with fast fashion trailing at US$44 billion.

âVintage has gone mainstream, especially with the endorsement of celebrities wearing vintage on the red carpet,â says Eddie Paul Friend of Lust and Fond, a California-based vendor at A Current Affair.
Those celebrities â like Zooey Deschanel, Christina Hendricks and Aya Cash â also show off their latest fashion finds on Instagram, where they are as likely to shout out to their favourite vintage shops as they are to their favourite labels.
Even high-fashion icons like Kate Moss have come out as proud vintage shoppers. October saw the release of Musings on Fashion and Style: Museo de la Moda , a book Moss collaborated on that serves as a paean to her favourite vintage pieces and looks.
âThe buyer has changed,â says Baca. âUsed clothing has become socially acceptable, so now you see all ages, financial backgrounds and races buying vintage clothes.â

How To Drape a Silk Saree?
Generally, a saree can range from four to nine yards. The most difficult task can be made easy. Once you get into the habit it can be very convenient for you to drape a saree in just a matter of a few minutes.
Take the saree and wrap it around the waist. Wear the saree along with a petticoat/ underskirt/seamless shapewear and blouse. It's important to tie it around the waist in a proper manner so that you can tuck in your saree and so that it doesn't fall off.
The first and most important step is to create a knot on the top corner of the plain end of the saree. Secondly, insert this knot into the petticoat. The embroidery of the saree should be facing out.
How to maintain Silk Sarees Online?
Silk sarees have to be taken care of in the right way to maintain their shine and lustre.
It's important not to machine-wash the saree or hand wash the saree. This can completely ruin the saree and will tarnish the fabric. It might cause discolouration. Always get them dry-cleaned.
Do not expose the saree to extreme heat or extreme temperatures, this would ruin the fabric of the saree and might dull the shine and the colour.
