high school nl rafe & y/n secretly v low-key pining for each other hurts my hurt (in a good way lol!!) 😭❣️ idk if you have already answered this before (ignore me if you have) but what do you think was the turning point for each of them when they realised to themselves that they saw the other a little more than just as a friend?

soooo, okay. let me try to answer this coherently aha

i think they have pretty much always kind of had crushes and were physically attracted to each other, and just cared for each other how friends tend to do!

i think rafe had a bit of a wild phase (like nothing too crazy, just a lot of partying, little scuffles here and there like in the all i want blurb—just very poorly working through all the pressure from his dad) in the beginning of high school which put y/n off, but he grew out of it by the time they were a little older. and y/n always kind of knew that wasn’t the real him, but she was pretty shy and reserved and knew her parents expected her to stay in line so it definitely deterred her a little! they were able to get closer once rafe figured his shit out more

sooooo, i’d say rafe realized he was into her when they were around 16. she’d come to his games with kelce, they had some more classes together where they got to be one on one, and just more moments where he was like oh, wait. and he didn’t really realize how serious those feelings were until she told him she was moving away for school and then everything with prom happened. but even then, all the times with the fights and everything where he knew he was fucking up his image in her eyes kinda stuck with him and it was always an excuse for him to push down his feelings because he thought there was just no way she’d ever actually be into him

for y/n, she’d never admit it to herself (well maybe she would now, since they’re actually together and it all worked out. which she never thought would happen) but i’d say she’s had those more serious feelings for him since around the same time! she tried to never even give him a second thought because she was convinced he was so out of her league, but couldn’t help but notice how nice he was to her, or when he definitely showed he cared, or just those like every subtle moments that the lines definitely blurred. and i think she finally realized those feelings for the same reasons as him, having to see him with other girls and then move away from him (because at that point it’s like… well we never dated, so is this the end?) and all of that
