The August, '56 Florida tour was wild! ❤️🔥✨
Elvis photographed by Bob Moreland at the Fort Homer W. Hesterly Armory in Tampa, FL, on Sunday, August 5, 1956.
Elvis photographed by Bruce (or Harry as the newspaper reads?) Roberts during a performance at the Armory in Tampa, FL, August 5, 1956 (One of my favorite pictures of EP ever!).
Tampa Tribune, August 12, 1956 - Jacksonville, Florida, 1956
Elvis heading onstage at the Fort Homer W. Hesterly Armory, Tampa, FL - Aug. 5, 1956 Photo by Bob Moreland.
Look at the girl at the front row all flustered, trying to touch him. The desperation in her eyes, I can almost hear the screams/cries!
Last but not least, just because he's cute, look Elvis at the same venue, just a little more than a year previously. He's outside Fort Homer W. Hesterly Armory, Tampa, FL May 8, 1955.
There's these two moments where I wish I could attend an Elvis concert the most: anywhere/anytime in '72 and August, '56 in Florida. 🥹 Being born 18 years after he was no longer walking on this Earth, I feel so unlucky when I look at those pictures. I would really trade my youth for one single moment watching Elvis, even if "only" onstage for 30-50 minutes. Lucky the ones who got to experience this.

Generational Dust by John Moreland
You don't know who to trust, generational dust
Fight it if you must, there's no end
Devil's deepest blue, connecting me to you
Love will see you through, I know it
It's the perfect gift, all your cherished myths
Hey, can I get a lift if you're going?
'Cause nothing much goes down
In this purgatorial town
You mostly wait around not knowing
And we're all chasing the same carrot
With the choices we inherit
Cry till you can't bear it anymore
And the character you're playin'
Believes what he is saying
But honestly, the acting is a chore
You worry about your soul
You dig a deeper hole
It's only rock n' roll
But you like it
Looking back upon the family
In your grey Nintendo memory
Ever chasing after light of day
But the darker ground we covered
Decided or discovered
Turned us into who we are today
Choking on your fate
Great city, shitty state
Yeah, I'm blooming late, what of it?
They mourn their faded youth
They wage a war on truth
Stay and be the proof, or get above it
You get all the lyrics cuz they all apply to them so hard that I couldn't just snip it.
There is so much unsaid pain in this song and the wish that your son will not be like you but it's too late since they are already your child and doomed from that title. And the son loves you but there will always be that bitterness that comes with loving someone that hurt you.

The Sky Is A Poisonous Garden
The stars above shine down below
The fever you hold on this night, deathly cold
He can feel from his side of the door
He could feel Eleanor
He said, sun don't rise
He said, sun don't shine
He said, don't bring tomorrow
To justify tonight
The moon is full and the stars are bright
And the sky is a poisonous garden tonight
Sip your tequila, give me some time
To unlearn all I've learned, for the spring to unwind
And then came your sweet gentle mouth
I began to move mine
They knew with the dawn, they knew with the day
They knew what they had would be young naked prey
And attacked from all sides by a world
Full of poison and hate
Out of this world
Out of this time
Out of control
They were out of their minds
The moon is full and the stars are bright
And the sky is a poisonous garden tonight
Eleanor trembles, Eleanor moans
Somehow, this body is someone she always has known
She cries tears on his chest
Oh so silent and slow
She said please don't go
(Please don't go)
He said please don't go
(Please don't go)
And she sighed and she died in his arms
And he cried, "Nevermore"
The moon is full and the stars are bright
And the sky is a poisonous garden tonight
The sky is a poisonous garden tonight
The sky is a poisonous garden tonight
The sky is a poisonous garden tonight.

In complying with the court's order he brings his pal and partner Jefferson, and the two guys go on a journey to look for a brand-new area to live. “One on One” (1977): Beautiful as a Buzzer Beater from Downtown!
Films that Forever Matter Series
by John Smistad
Summer of 1977
My good buddy Bruce and I were each about to head off to our first year of college. He to Florida. I would stay in Texas. It was hot. Are you kidding? It was August. In Houston.
Durn right it was HOT, pardner!
We were at Almeda Mall south of town. Looking for a movie to catch. And to escape the oppressive mid-90s heat and humidity in an air-conditioned multiplex theater with an ice-cold Coke and a whole bunch of butter-battered popcorn. One of the movie posters promoted a new flick called “One on One”. We didn't know anything about it. Except that it was about basketball. Ardent sports fanatics that we were, we chose to to check this one out.
Little did I know
I could not have realized at that moment that over the next hour and 38 minutes, I was to be completely captivated by what would become one of my favorite films. Ever.
Loosely. Real loosely.
Based in the dramatically licensed principle of the UCLA college basketball dynasty of the 1960s and '70s, "One on One" is a pure pleasure from tip-off to the final buzzer.
Robby Benson stars (and co-writes the script with his dad, Jerry Segal, who authored the book) as high school roundball phenom Henry Steele. Our small-town hero rapidly realizes that his flashy fashion of play does not mesh with old-school hard-ass Head Coach Moreland Smith (a shivery intimidating turn by G.D. Spradlin) at superpower "Western University". The callous coach shows no mercy as he ruthlessly pressures the “hot dog” Henry into renouncing his full-ride scholarship.
The point must be made here that it is virtually inconceivable to conjure that this character of Smith is in any way a reflection of UCLA coaching legend John Wooden. Sure, the mastermind of a staggering ten National Championship ball clubs was renowned as a demanding taskmaster. Still, could "The Wizard of Westwood" ever have been this viciously vindictive?
I’m goin’ with “uh-uh”.
Hardwood meets Heat of Passion
Benson is more than credible in both his acting performance and in his basketball acumen. The guy can play. Annette O'Toole, as his tutor, turned lover Janet Hays, is utterly fetching and fabulous in her co-lead role. It is pretty damn difficult to imagine how any 18-year-old Freshman kid could NOT fall helplessly, head over sneakers in love with this red-hot redhead.
The so-‘70s Seals and Crofts soundtrack here is also a swish, the mellow melodies serving to imbue this sweet-to-sour-to-sweet story.
“One on One” remains for me a chronicle that continues to score by slam dunk as it deftly dribbles drives toward a predictable, yet irresistibly winning, final buzzer.
“One on One” is available to rent on Amazon Prime Video.

The American punk rock scene of the 80's was...not really punk. Sure, the energy remained there, but most of the musicians within the style filtered the latter by going their way to rock. I mean, the period did contain a lot of developments that brought something else to the style as we can hear in the case of Wall Of Voodoo. They mixed the classic Western tropes with the modern sounds, yet this all sounded quite well. You see, they remind me of the B-52's, had the latter used a different set of influences. However, one thing must be stated, i.e. these players managed to persevere despite being a paradox. What I try to say here might be – they followed the template of the zeitgeist, but they molded that into other paths.
