that moment in bridgerton s3e7 when benedict gets up to leave and kisses colin's head in passing while drunk... how many times did he do that as kids? colin was 5 years younger, he's probably always been "baby brother" to benedict, especially since he was always the younger to anthony and it was years before gregory was born... man. the bridgerton sibling's relationships with eachother mean so much to me

She was Penelope. She was supposed to be an open book. He knew her. Heād always known her.
And now it seemed heād never known her.

Maybe you didnāt plan to entrap Colin Penelope but you wrote about the engagement in Whistledown before it was possible for anyone to know - which in my eyes was a form of entrapment because you were ensuring that Colin couldnāt back out without everyone knowing and questioning his honour

on today's rewatch: S3E7 [Joining of hands]
I haven't done a good job in putting out original content for the past few months and I blame my new job entirely š It's so intense, it turns my brain into mush most days.
I'm 68% functional right now so if my ramblings don't make sense, I apologise.
Today, I am thinking of Colin's retreating back after he discovered the Pen was LW.
(Colouring this gif is so hard. It's so dark š I wish I was better at this.)
I don't know why I'm locked in on Colin's back.
On him walking away.
On his coat billowing as it matches the force of his steps. I have a thing for people's footsteps or way of walking because I often think about how I walk and how it represents what I'm feeling at the moment. My many, many rewatches offered me the realisation that there isn't a lot of full body shots of Luke Newton for S1 and S2 nor are walking shots. If there are full body shots, he's with Nicola so your attention is split.
I read a meta somewhere that book!Colin canonically loves walking so much so that he would endure the rain to help clear his thoughts.
I always thought that this walk was more heartbroken than angry. He walked away because his heart was breaking into pieces. But I also think that he walked away because of his love for her.
I know that the last thing he says to Pen in this scene is that he will never forgive her but I also think that he was talking more to Lady Whistledown than to Pen because at this point, they are still separate in his mind.
Clearly, this walk is the hardest to understand and has been part of heated debates of what canonically would Colin really do (this being compared to the source material aka book!Colin). I don't want to broach that debate too much because I would've done the same as Colin (as someone who is an introverted demisexual empath who value the words that come out of my mouth and actions to take but often overthinks them). And these are mere ramblings of a Polin brainrotter.
Now, there are three significant full body walking shots of Colin in S3: Colin's entrance in E1 (the faux swagger), this retreating walk in the early part of E7 (the heartbreak), and the him trying to clear his thoughts in the latter part of the same episode (the drunk, angry yet pensive one).
This walk represents the war that Colin has fought so many times. When his emotions overtake him, he finds himself walking away. I say find because I don't think Colin was self-aware nor mature enough to understand why he walked away. It's why he traveled around, it's what happened to him with Marina, and what he almost did to Penelope. In my head, this very distinctly represents Colin's trauma about his dad's death. His emotions always get the better of him.
This is another thing that I appreciate about Colin and Penelope's relationship-- they helped each other grow. If Penelope didn't have the courage or honestly, the love, to confront Colin when he was about to walk away in the modiste scene, we wouldn't have known the root of Colin's emotional trauma. Of him feeling inadequate and abandoned/betrayed by the people he loves.
On a different side of this debate, this is what separates this relationship to all other relationships that Colin has in his life-- the depth of love and understanding that him and Pen have shared gave them the the power to get out of this situation much, much stronger.
(on a side note, writing this is making me so excited for s4 even though I want to tamper my expectations)
In conclusion, I didn't appreciate the words that came out of Colin's mouth. But on the other hand, I appreciated that he walked away and he didn't do what book!Colin did. While this scene was devastating to watch, I really really appreciate how Colin spent time understanding his emotions about the whole LW situation. I know we all wanted to tear his hair out by the end but love doesn't put a timeline on forgiveness. Nor does it paint a pretty picture.
But time does help in growing yourself better.

Analysis of the Shared Character Traits of Colin & Penelope Bridgerton
I love how Bridgerton explores both the strengths and challenges of Colin and Penelope's character traits. Spoilers throughout.
My personal viewpoint is that all character traits have strengths and challenges. And that good storytelling explores both aspects.
I believe that if you find only the positive aspects of a person's character trait acceptable, you're likely to become frustrated over time. We all make mistakes from time to time. The challenging aspects of character traits will inevitably show up.
A key takeaway from Bridgerton S3 is that a long-term relationship is strongest when both parties appreciate and accept their partners' character traits in their entirety.
In this post I will discuss character traits Colin and Penelope share: spontaneity and romantic natures.
Sidenote: I am a romance girlie with ADHD. I empathise with their struggles and indulgently revel in their triumphs
1. Spontaneity
Strengths:
Adventurous: Both are risk-takers. Colin enjoys his travels. Penelope earns her own money, which is unusual for a noble lady during the Regency period.
Creative: Both have innovative ideas. Colin pilfers Cressida's necklace to prove Lord Featherington's rubies are fake. Penelope writes the Whistledown pamphlet to discredit Cressida in a single carriage ride S3E6.
Quick Decision-Making: Both don't faff around. Colin decides on a wife, house, and baby-making within 24 hours in S3E4-5.
Challenges:
Regret: Impulsive actions can lead to regret. Colin regrets going to see Cressida without making a better plan first with Eloise and Penelope in S3E8. Penelope regrets writing about Marina and Eloise.
Relationship Issues: Impulsive behaviour can strain relationships due to a lack of consideration and time given to others. I believe that if Penelope was aware of Colin's intent to marry her and they had had a longer courtship with more opportunities for safe communication, she would have told him about Whistledown before the engagement.
Difficulty Planning: Impulsive people may struggle with long-term planning and goal-setting. Colin often expresses his struggle to find a purpose, such as when he was feeding the ducks S2E5. Penelope did not plan for the long-term when she started writing Lady Whistledown and finds herself being hunted by the Queen.
2. Romantic Nature
Strengths:
Imagination: Both possess a vivid imagination. Colin's dream about Penelope at the start of S3E3 is epic. Penelope's writing about Cressida being a succubus is hilarious.
Resilience: Despite the Lady Whistledown conflict, both maintain their determination to marry. Colin's talk with Kate is enlightening on this aspect too S3E7.
Challenges:
Unrealistic expectations: Both have idealised visions of love, which leads to misunderstandings. Colin is blind to his love for Penelope because he expected it to feel like a thunderbolt striking him. Penelope thinks Colin has romantic intentions towards her when he says he will always look out for her and is heartbroken when she hears he does not want to court her in S2E8.
Vulnerability: Romantic individuals may be more susceptible to manipulation because of how powerfully they feel love. Colin is manipulated by Marina's exaggerations and love bombing in S1. Penelope is manipulated by Portia to give up her dreams because Portia says that ladies do not have dreams and serve their husband's dreams S3E6.
Difficulty with casual relationships: Romantic individuals may find it challenging to navigate casual or less romantic intimacy. Colin forlornly describes a casual encounter in his journal as ādistantā. Penelope looks disappointed when Portia tells her that Debling will propose because Penelope desires a love match.
Loneliness: Without love, they experience feelings of loneliness. Colin exclaims at the Lord Squad, "Do you not find it lonely?" regarding their shallow relationships. Penelope looks very lonely when sitting at her bedroom window after the Lady Whistledown article about Colin tutoring her was published S3E4.
Quote of Pen appreciating Colin's spontaneity and romantic nature S1E8:
Colin: āI must apologise. I did not see it at first, but I know you were only trying to prevent me from heartache with Miss Thompsonā¦But I was a fool.ā
Penelope: āYou were not a fool. You merely believed yourself in love. One should never apologise for that. If one finds themselves in such an incredible position. One should declare it: assuredly, fervently, loudly.ā
It is beautiful that they understand and appreciate these aspects of each other ššš

Damn, I was so disappointed with the Bridgerton s3e7
It was just awful and the dialogues were so not in a usual Bridgerton style
Kateās speech to Colin, Tillieās speech to Benedict, Benedictās speech to Eloise, they all were so soulless and straightforward, so not-personal and so pointless. Likeā¦ they didnāt seem to have any impact on the person theyāre speaking with. Those scenes could be way better without those monologues if there were more personal struggles and concerns rather than them just listening to soulless speeches without any reaction
That ep felt the same as Cressidaās pamphlet. Some important point is missing entirely.
(Just my personal opinion, if anyone loved that ep - good for you <3)

#12 Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries
Plot: A sassy, independent woman in 1920's Melbourne mixes jazzclubs and men with solving murders. Phryne Fisher is, at first, an unwelcomed element for detective inspector Jack Robinson and the others at the Police station. Though, as time goes by she's proven to be an invaluable resorce - for the Police force, professionally - and for Jack, personally.
Years: 2012-2015
Seasons: 3
My story: One weekend back in early 2020 me and my platonic wife did what we do best - sat on the couch and watched series for an entire weekend. Then and there she showed me Miss Fisher for the first time, and it's a love that lasted. I fell hard for the strong, feisty woman that is Phryne, and not the least as the sappy romantic I am, the will-they-won't-they relationship between Phryne and Jack. Shortly after, I discovered a beutiful fandom with people of all ages, from all over the world.
Teachable moments: Phryne is a role model for everyone and shows us that norms and expectations are bullshit. Be yourself and live your life and don't forget to contribute to a better world along the way.
Best character: This might be the obvious choice but it has to be Phryne. As I've already stated, she's a huge inspiration for everyone and I try to have a little Phryne with me everyday.
Best episode: "Game, set & murder" (S3E7). A classic episode which not only hosts amazing old fashioned tennis-costumes and a spider-frightened Phryne but also a whole bunch of drama and emotions.
Best quote: -"She has no respect for the rules" -"That's because they tend to be written by men" (Lofty and Phryne). To be fair this one's from the movie, but it's so good!
Fun fact: A Miss Fisher Con is held every year in the US, where fans get together, have workshops and parties with visits from cast and crew.
If you like this you might also like: In 2020 the movie Miss Fisher and the Crypt of Tears premiered. It was supposed to be the first of at least three movies following the series, but for different reasons there won't be more. During 2019-2020 a spinoff called Ms Fisher's Modern Murder Mysteries aired, where we follow Phryne's niece Peregrine in the 60's. Around the same time a Chinese adaptation, called Miss S, was released and aired for one season. Others you might like are Downton Abbey, Bridgerton, Miss Marple, Vera and Midsummer Murders.
The series is an adaptation of Kerry Greenwood's books, at the moment 22 of them, and counting.

I have thought about Colin Bridgerton every single day since June 13. I love him so much, he plagues my mind. If you have been here for a while, you know that I've been lauding how Luke Newton has played Colin brilliantly and I will continue to pile on that praise because I cannot resist this pookie bear.
So, here's my favourite S3 smiles of my favourite sweet, soft boi. He progressively shows his toothy smile less and less from the latter part of S1 and S2 and beginning of S3 so I adore it when I see this smile. I just love love love when I see Luke Newton's toothy smile. He doesn't do it often when you carefully look at all the press tour photos and interviews.
I'm working on S1 and S2 smiles, too. Stay tuned!
S3E6 - Romancing Mr. Bridgerton He just made one of his dad jokes to Pen and made her smile. Nothing spells in love like this sweet, shy smile
S3E6 - Romancing Mr. Bridgerton Possibly the biggest smile I've seen on him when Pen tells him that she's always loved him. Gaaah, I can drown in this smile forever. It's this smile that makes the angst in the latter part so hard to watch. This pookie bear, in pain??? It was definitely hard to go through seeing the pain and confusion in his face.
S3E6 - Romancing Mr. Bridgerton His smile every time he twirls his two apples wife (I'm sorry for cutting Pen's face). That is the look of a fulfilled man.
S3E7 - Joining of hands I saw an interview (not sure which one) where Luke elaborates on the emotions he played Colin in throughout the wedding. He said that he just let him be swept up in the joy of the moment and that is why we get this beautiful wedding smile. Look at those eyes! We knew the conflict they were in but this is one of the hard evidences that he would never, ever give up Pen.
S3E8 - Into the light (sorry for the grainy gif. this was zoomed in at max capacity) Every single dance they've had (even the wedding one), Colin would display his truest emotions. It's why they have 5 dances throughout the season as compared to Saphne and Kanthony's 2 each (if I'm remembering correctly). This last dance, where he finally settles in his emotions saw him the happiest as evidence on the next gif.
S3E8 - Into the light Look at this pookie's face! It's the first smile where he closes his eyes fully-- embracing the joy he's feeling. This and the next gif's smiles are my absolute favourites. I can stare at this smiling face all day.
BONUS
S3E5 - Tik Tok To the sweetest sex scene I've seen in my life, I will never get over you. Because you give me this man's absolutely smitten face. And those fiery eyes??? Are you kidding me? I can make essays about the mirror scene. That intimacy is not easily replicated and I'll always compare this scene to every other intimacy scene I see on screen from now on.
(Stunning work from Luke and Nic)
I cap this post off with this RMB quote:
āI love you for every one of my smiles, and even more, for every one of your smiles.ā - Colin Bridgerton to Penelope Bridgerton Excerpt From Romancing Mr. Bridgerton Julia Quinn | This material may be protected by copyright.
#i love him so much#colin's smiles#i smile for every one of his smile#my sweet soft boi#you plague my mind#colin bridgerton#polin#bridgerton#luke newton#i'll continually praise Luke Newton's work
