MAG // Alannah & Francesca met at work, however, it was a midnight meeting at a local Brisbane bar and some liquid courage before the two would finally make a move on one another. They chose @malenyweddings (Sunshine Coast, Australia) to share their personal vows, a place that brought memories back for Chesca of her home back in the UK. As the reception kicked on, Lan had a little surprise for Chesca; a dapper suit that she had custom designed and a frighteningly hilarious rendition of Bonnie Tyler's classic 'Total Eclipse of the Heart' [they had each been known to indulge in a little karaoke every now and again!].  It's what Lan presents to Chesca at the end of the song that will make your heart so full.  Their wedding day features in our newest addition to the magazine family, Volume Three. The Story

My husband and I met at high school. I was new to the town, and we were introduced through my family. It had been love at first sight, very cute.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
For our marriage, I needed a traditional Old World vintage Gatsby feel. I had to be surrounded by blossoms, I wanted tender pinks, lavenders, and whites along with accents of gold. Love Bird Weddings and Mondo Flowers worked in creating a classic elegance that is captured in Calli B Photography’s pictures of the day. I had my heart set on peonies however, as it happens, they have been out of year! However, my florist had ordered peonies to be imported as a particular surprise on the wedding day from Paris! From the easy floral styling (blossoms were everywhere, my one quite insistent request) along the aisle, into the fantastic rose and timber arbour that surrounded us, to the glass house mountains away in the distance, the air enabled us to say “I do”s at the most romantic manner. Our day has been highlighted by design thoughts, thought around a couple of years of preparation, right down to the reddish gumboots I wore to our place shots. (It had rained that afternoon, and I was not denying my Louboutins; also, it showed off my country bumpkin upbringing in perfect humour.)

My very best friend made our masks within my husband comic characters which we used throughout the night as props, and I made the menus and service sequence of occasions.

Which were your favourite or most memorable elements of your wedding day?
There were a lot of very special moments, created by our awesome team of suppliers and our amazing family, however I feel that the quiet moments with my family members and friends getting ready, my husband and me standing at the altar at a bubble of love, and our grandparents being a large part of the party were my most cherished moments. We unfortunately misplaced my husband’s Nanna lately, so that these minutes shared with our loved ones are very cherished. We loved ones that had passed and had the room, and it added our day and a touch that is lovely.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Is there something that  you would have done otherwise?
Nothing, except making the day longer! It had been the wedding and ran without a glitch because of our carefully chosen and highly recommended team of suppliers, which I cannot recommend since they really make. Additionally, a special mention to my family that went above and beyond for us the entire day was great.
Do you have some advice for future brides?
Remain true to what you as a couple want. Everybody has opinions, as it’s daily and if they are are valid, listen to advice but do not live by it. Don’t lie about the photographer! Above all, write a list of what’s been most important for you for your own wedding in your own experiences as a guest in others, stick to that listing, and hope your suppliers, as it’s their job to bring it all together for you daily. Let go of the reins per week really let down your hair, because trust me when I tell you that it’s over before you know it and spend time with your family and friends. Really adopt and appreciate every moment, including the lead up to it.

Cait and Ned’s California Vineyard Wedding
Cait and Ned, self-confessed opposites, knew they wanted something unique and different than anything they’d seen on any blog or Pinterest for their big day. From Cait: “I wanted to infuse the traditional, starched, East Coast elements of Ned’s upbringing with the feminine, luxurious, and rad Californian in me; and so we struck a balance. The contrast element was a big part of our love story, and it came out strongly in our design aesthetic – which reflected us perfectly as a couple.” They achieved all that and more in this gorgeous East meets West wedding with a “larger than life” bouquet and amazing tablescapes by Siren Floral Co. Since Cait worked with Designer and Planner Kaella Lynn Events for two years before she got engaged, Kaella already had a discerning eye for Cait’s vision for her wedding and orchestrated it perfectly. We’re sure you’ll agree that Jake & Necia Photography did an incredible job capturing every beautiful detail.
From the planner:
Cait assisted me for 2 years before getting engaged herself, so naturally we had discussed her dream wedding long before, but the vision became such a reflection of the two of them as a couple once it became a reality. We worked with Siren Floral Co. to create a flower-full masterpiece that was equal parts foliage and big, bodacious blooms and garden roses. Everything started and ended with the florals, and for Cait a larger than life bouquet was the only way it could be.
Aside from the aesthetics and materials used to illustrate how Cait and Ned’s personalities come together, additional touches were incorporated to reflect their future together. During their ceremony, they planted a baby spruce tree with soil from Rochester and California that they since planted in their new home in Rochester. Both love to read and be inspired, so their favorite quotes were written in calligraphy, framed and displayed throughout the event. Cait’s cousin, who lives and owns a candle-making business in Australia created 3 different scents of small candles for guests to take home as favors. She also created larger ones, one in a more masculine scent to be enjoyed in the masculine den (Ned’s lounge) and the other a floral candle to scent the air at the feminine setting (Cait’s lounge) at cocktail hour.
  From the Bride:
How we met – He was East Coast, I was West: we met for the first time working at an advertising firm in San Francisco, and Ned says “the moment I saw her across the sales floor, I knew she was what I had been waiting for.” Hailing from LA originally, and having just graduated from UC Berkeley across the bay, I couldn’t have been more opposite from the girls Ned had met growing up in Rochester NY and living in Manhattan – and that made all of the difference. I was sunshine and positivity and youthful enthusiasm; Ned was life experience and rationality and conservative savings goals (and 10 years my senior, both in his career and in life). I asked him on an outing in October 2012 under the guise of friendship – “Let’s go to the pumpkin festival in Half Moon Bay!” – and being a good sport, he agreed. A two hour drive and 45 minute festival turned into a 4 hour lunch date filled with craft beer, stories of his life on the East Coast and mine in LA, and both of us hoping that ‘friends’ wasn’t a title that would stick. 2 years later, we were engaged under the Brooklyn bridge in a secret garden by the waterfront – and his surprise proposal was one of the only moments in my life that has truly shocked me. It was perfection.
What inspired our wedding – When Ned and I met, I was working full time in ad sales, and on weekends and evenings, an assistant planner at Kaella Lynn Events. Needless to say, I had very little free time – but weddings have always been my calling. Ned says “I’ve always been in awe of her style, and weddings are what make her happy, so I learned that while my Saturdays were for golfing with friends, hers were for helping people on the most important day of their lives. I support that.”  I carried around a copy of ‘Brides’ magazine to preschool with me from the time I was three years old, and when my dad married my stepmom in 1998, I was at the center of their ceremony and planning process. Naturally, when Ned and I got engaged, I looked to my mentor and friend, Kaella Wilson, (the Chief Wedding Planner at Kaella Lynn Events) to bring our big day to life. She and I had a vision for what the day would look like LONG before it actually came to be – but we gathered most of our inspiration from my life with Ned, our unique backgrounds, and our shared vision – what really made our love story pop. The year-long planning process was such a wonderful time for me, because Ned and I had just moved to New York, and working closely with Kaella kept me tied closely to my roots in California during that time, through endless calls/emails/skype meetings that made me feel right at home.
Ned and I would be married in my home town, just around the corner from where my dad and stepmom had tied the knot – and given our shared love of Northern California wineries, a vineyard was a no-brainer.  But I wanted something with edge – a wedding day that didn’t look like anything I had seen on Pinterest or a wedding blog. When I saw my personal flowers on our wedding morning, I almost fell out of my Louboutins – I’ve never seen anything more beautiful, more me, or larger (!) than my bridal bouquet.
The Dress – I went to no less than seven bridal salons with varied groups of my bridesmaids and best friends to try on wedding gowns – and while a number of dresses had felt pretty enough, I hadn’t had a ‘wow’ moment until I visited Bridal Galleria in San Francisco. On that day, I had pulled a few gowns to try on from the sales floor, and as I rounded a corner to take one last glance around, MY gown was hanging from a single rack directly in front of me. I swear it was bathed in magical light as I walked toward it – all gossamer ivory tulle, hand stitched lace with gilded thread, and golden glitter infused throughout the endless layers of horsehair edging. It was a strapless Lazaro ball gown with a 4 foot train and peplum waistline – and I will never forget twirling around the salon, refusing to take it off, while the other gowns I had seen hung unnoticed in the dressing room. It was everything I had ever dreamed of in a wedding dress, and when I saw tears well in Ned’s eyes as I started down the aisle on our wedding day, I knew I had chosen the right one.
Designer + Planner: Kaella Lynn Events // Photography: Jake & Necia Photography // Florist: Siren Floral Co. // Invitations and Paper Suite: Aerialist Press // Calligraphy: Brown Fox Calligraphy // Venue: Triunfo Creek Vineyards // Bridal Gown: Lazaro // Shoes: Christian Louboutin // Bridesmaids’ Gowns: Donna Morgan // Hair & Makeup: Bliss Bridal Beauty // Groom’s Attire: Bonobos // Cakes: Sweet and Saucy Shop // Dessert Bar: Delish Designs // Caterer: Command Performance Catering // Furniture Rentals: Found Vintage Rentals // Tabletop Rentals: Casa de Perrin // Linens: La Tavola Fine Linens // Ring Box: The Mrs. Box

A Rustic, Handmade Wedding in a Dairy Barn
This post A Rustic, Handmade Wedding in a Dairy Barn first appeared on The Wedding Community Blog
This wedding is just incredible! Robyn and Whitney chose the amazing Yandina Station in Queensland, Australia, as the setting for their wedding. The historic venue was the perfect choice for their rustic theme, with the unique combination of vintage beauty and incredible views of the rugged country backdrop.
The pretty colour palette set the tone for Robyn and Whitney’s laid-back, rustic affair. The colours really come to life in the couple’s bridal bouquets, and these are some of the most incredible blooms I have seen. Stunning.
I am so in love with their style and beautiful wedding dresses. Whitney chose ‘Saskia from Karen Willis Holmes, a beautiful wedding dress with bodice top and customised corset skirt. Robyn wore ‘Pippin’ by Wtoo by Watters, a stunning slim-fit dress with a geometric lace pattern. Having two dresses to swoon over makes me so happy!
Robyn and Whitney, along with family members, made much of their wedding decor, including the table runners, favours, signs and table numbers. Bonnie Jenkins Photography captured the details of the wedding beautifully. Come and see…
A Storm and a Teacup
“Robyn and I met at the local RSL we both worked at on the Sunshine Coast. Robyn had just come back from three months in Europe, and few months prior I had moved back to the coast from Brisbane. We spent four years on the coast working and having fun before deciding to make a move to Mount Isa.
“We went to Byron Bay for a long weekend and the music festival ‘Splendour In The Grass’. After we checked in to our beach house we decided to have afternoon tea at the lighthouse, but it was a cold and rainy day. We watched the storm roll over the hills and on to the beach, taking in the beautiful view.
“Robyn poured a cup of tea for me, then look at me intently until I realised the black mug had turned into a picture of her on one knee holding a sign saying ‘Will you marry me?’. She then pulled a box out of her pocket, opened it, and after a few tears I said yes! It was a surreal day and one of the happiest.”
Vintage Beauty
“Yandina Station is a luxury country estate and a working cattle property. It was a unique combination of vintage beauty, history, incredible views and open space. It was the first place we looked at and we couldn’t go past it. Robyn’s family live nearby, and we wanted our wedding to be near where we both grew up so our friends and family didn’t have to travel far.
“Our ceremony took place under the unbelievably beautiful fig tree. Canapés on the lawn followed, then on to the reception in the dairy barn for a sit down banquet dinner. The food was the most delicious I have ever eaten. Copious amounts of laughter, dancing and celebrating continued all night long.
“As the venue had so much history and beauty already we kept everything simple. Our theme was rustic, relaxed and fun, with dusty rose, blue and greens, and neutral and gold colours.”
Handmade Details
“Anything we could make we did! We cut rose gold sequin runners for the tables, Robyn’s brother made the table numbers, we up-cycled and painted the rose gold glass jars on the tables, and we made and hand-painted the ceremony and lawn game signs for around the venue. Hired fairy lights filled the reception room.
“The boutonnières were vintage teacups collected from various garage sales with home-grown succulents, and Robyn’s mum helped us make homemade marmalade and ginger jam in mini jars with hessian covers.
“Some of the suitcases and the Cordwell’s wooden crates we borrowed from Robyn’s Grandparents, who owned a pineapple farm.”
Big Things First
“One piece of advice I would give is to lock in all the big things first. Things like your date and venue, photographer, videographer, celebrant and band/entertainment. They book up quite quickly and it can be stressful if you leave things to the last minute.”
