I know this is an old old OLD post, but with Twitter continuing to die a slow death, this is relevant now more than ever, especially as people continue to leave Twitter for other platforms.
The only reason I'm bringing Twitter up at all is because I feel like people got used to simply hitting the like button to show their appreciation for a post then walking away, and Twitter's a big reason for that. Maybe not necessarily saying "oh, this person won't care if I don't leave a comment on their posts", but still, it's another Twitter habit that people really need to break. Doubly so for platforms that don't use algorithms to push posts based off how much Numbers™ and Engagement™ they receive. Not every social media platform functions like Twitter.
Sadly, on the flip side, I'm also of the belief that this has resulted in tons of creators (not just artists!) basing their success entirely on watching Numbers™ go brr. I'm sorry, but that's a TERRIBLE mindset to have. A creator shouldn't judge their output from how many Numbers™ it has. At least in my view, if a certain art post completely bombs in terms of Numbers™, so what? I still had fun making it. Then again, I don't really profit off my creative output, but that's another discussion entirely.
So yeah. Go leave a comment on your favorite creators' posts! It doesn't have to be anything special or elaborate, just a better way to show your appreciation for a creator beyond simply hitting the like button. Oh, and it's great to share posts, too!
