no hot shower for me tonight. but i will be channelling my inner medieval peasant and heating various pans of water on the hob for a bath.
#also no heating for me tonight or tomorrow or the day after or maybe even the day after that#in fact who knows when i'll get heating back :)#which is great because the temps just dropped from 15°c to 7°c#anyways. the water heater is Broken and Leaking and there's a Damp Patch on the ceiling#and i saw this 5 minutes before we had someone come to view the house#and ive called Multiple plumbers and im waiting for one to call me back because he may be able to come out and check tomorrow morning#but i think he forgot about me#so earliest is monday afternoon w/ someone else#we think we'll have to replace the whole thing but god knows how much that'll cost. alternatively we could get a combi boiler#which would be more efficient and space saving#but that's minimum like £5k#in the meantime we had to turn off the heater and drain out all the hot water#but i just :) i think the thing is. id spend anything if we werent hoping to buy a new place/move#but with the economy as it is we really dont want to take thousands of pounds out of our house deposit fund#and speaking of someone put an offer on our house today but they offered like £30k below the valued price and we were like#haha absolutely not. sorry but we cannot afford to do that#and the price is only like £8k more than what we paid in 2020#and i have no idea if my pharmacy managed to order in my meds and im almost Out again#and im not on them today so i have mad fatigue#and keep almost falling asleep#and im just done w it all. especially after all the horrible shit that's happened this week. politically. in the usa and germany etc#and all the other shit that's happening across the globe :)#im so sorry this is such a stupid overshare but i am so sick of things happening#tbd

A literary magazine has published a review of the anthology I’m in and mentioned me and my work by name, but I can’t see what they’ve said because it’s behind a paywall. Hmph.

Is Having a New Boiler Fitted Messy?
It’s crucial to understand the various steps and preparations involved. Installing or replacing a boiler can cause some disruption due to the nature of the work, which often involves pipework modifications, removal of old equipment, and placement of new units. However, with proper planning and professional assistance, this process can be far less intrusive than expected.
What to Expect When Having a New Boiler Fitted?
The process begins with assessing the existing heating system and selecting a suitable replacement. Depending on the type of boiler—combi, system, or conventional—the level of effort and potential disruption varies. Engineers typically aim to minimise mess by using protective covers and tidying up post-installation. Despite these precautions, some dust and noise are unavoidable, especially when structural modifications are needed to fit the new unit.
Homeowners should expect the process to take one to three days, depending on the complexity of the system and any required upgrades, such as flushing out the existing pipes or installing additional components.
Is Replacing a Boiler a Big Job? Tips to Make it Less Messy
Replacing a boiler can feel like a significant undertaking, especially for older systems needing upgrades. To keep the mess manageable, homeowners can take steps such as clearing the work area and discussing specific concerns with the installation team. Covering furniture and floors in adjacent areas can also help contain any debris. Hiring experienced engineers ensures the work is performed efficiently and with care.

Exploring the Government Boiler Upgrade Scheme
The UK Government Boiler Scheme is an initiative designed to assist homeowners in replacing outdated and inefficient heating systems with more environmentally friendly alternatives. Launched in April 2022, the scheme provides grants for individuals who wish to replace their old gas boilers with low-carbon heating technologies such as air source heat pumps, ground source heat pumps, and biomass boilers. The scheme is part of the government's broader strategy to reduce carbon emissions and achieve net-zero carbon targets by 2050. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme represents a significant step towards achieving these climate goals by promoting sustainable home heating solutions.
Tumblr media
What Does the Boiler Upgrade Scheme Offer?
The primary aim of the Boiler Upgrade Scheme is to support homeowners in upgrading their heating systems while minimizing their energy costs and environmental footprint. Under the scheme, qualifying homeowners can access grants worth up to £5,000 for air source heat pumps and £6,000 for ground source heat pumps, both of which are considered cleaner and more energy-efficient alternatives to traditional gas boilers.
These grants are intended to cover part of the upfront installation costs of these renewable heating systems, which can otherwise be prohibitively expensive. Heat pumps work by extracting heat from the air or ground and using it to heat the home and supply hot water. Biomass boilers, on the other hand, burn organic materials such as wood pellets to produce heat, which can also be used for space heating and hot water.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the free boiler scheme, homeowners must meet certain criteria. The property must be located in England, Scotland, or Wales, and the installation must be carried out by an approved installer under the scheme. Additionally, the property must be connected to the national grid and be an eligible type of building for the specified heating technologies.
It’s important to note that the scheme does not apply to new builds or properties that are already heated using low-carbon technologies such as heat pumps. It is also primarily aimed at domestic properties, though some non-domestic properties may qualify depending on their size and use.
How to Apply for the Scheme
The process to apply for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme is straightforward. Homeowners must first find an installer accredited by the government’s Micro generation Certification Scheme (MCS). The installer will assess the property and provide a recommendation on the best low-carbon heating solution for the home.
Once a solution is chosen, the homeowner can apply for the grant through the official Boiler Upgrade Scheme website. After approval, the grant will be paid directly to the installer, who will then carry out the installation. The process is designed to be simple and efficient, with the government working with approved installers to ensure that the installation meets quality standards and complies with regulations.
Benefits of the Scheme
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme offers numerous benefits for both homeowners and the environment. For homeowners, the scheme provides financial support to transition to cleaner heating technologies, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and lowering energy bills. Renewable heating systems like heat pumps are much more efficient than traditional gas boilers, which can lead to significant long-term savings on energy costs.
For the environment, the scheme helps reduce carbon emissions by encouraging the adoption of renewable energy sources. The shift away from gas boilers is a critical part of the UK’s efforts to reduce its carbon footprint and meet climate targets. It also aligns with broader trends in energy efficiency and sustainability, encouraging the wider use of green technologies.
Conclusion
The Government boiler replacement grant is an important initiative to help UK homeowner’s transition to low-carbon heating systems. With financial support and a straightforward application process, the scheme makes it easier for individuals to reduce their energy costs and environmental impact. As more people take advantage of the scheme, it will play a crucial role in the UK's transition to a greener and more sustainable energy future.

Professional Heating Installation Or Replacement may seem more costly initially, but it frequently results in long-term cost savings. HVAC systems installed correctly have fewer malfunctions, last longer, and operate more effectively, which translates into lower energy expenses, fewer repair bills, and higher return on investment. Experts also ensure that no portion of the system is overworked and that every component functions as intended. Thanks to this performance balance, the system can function successfully for many years, which also improves your return on investment.
