Unasked for advice from an old, old Auntie

Now that media is being sold on blu-ray, dvd and CD formats again, some of you might not have the proper players. Many already do, or know how to get them, this is not for those people. I'm not trying to talk down to anyone.

In my humble, and non-expert opinion, the best thing to do is get a blu-ray player or external player, because it will play blu-rays, dvds and cds.

Or look to a ratings website or organization which you trust.

But if your budget is like mine, you need something more afforable. You can look on ebay, Amazon marketplace, or any other stores that show you the links for used items, to find a drive or player at a lower price. But buyer beware! Check out the seller's rating, and how many people have rated them. Read the most recent ratings to see how your purchase might be handled.

You might want to see an actor's (musician's, writer's, director's) earlier work. That might only be available on dvd, or blu-ray, (or cd). Same rules with the used ones there.

Here are the meanings of the condition descriptions from e-bay.

Movies & TV, Music, Video Games

Brand new: The item was never opened or removed from the manufacturer's sealing (if applicable). The item is in original shrink wrap (if applicable). See the seller's listing for full details

Like new: The item looks as if it were just taken out of shrink wrap. It has no visible wear, and all facets of the item are flawless and intact. See the seller's listing for full details and a description of any imperfections

Check the condition descriptions on the site you're buying from to be precise about what you are getting.

Of course, most media can be rented or bought from streaming services. No one in 2024 needs any advice on how to do that. This is only for those of you who want to own what you buy, and sell it later if you find you don't want it anymore.

something I've been thinking about while unpacking stuff.

I've still got my old Harry Potter books. I don't have all of them, we were poor so I borrowed most of them from a friend. but I've got 5 I think. I know I won't ever read them again. I don't like looking at them because they just make me think about bad things now. but I also don't want to throw them away. they (the physical objects) meant a lot to me when I was a kid. if I throw them away I can never get them back. I only have maybe two or three other books from when I was younger (I think I either got rid of them or they got lost during one of the many times we/I moved).

it feels stupid to keep them when I don't even want to see them, but I know there's many things I threw away in the past that I still regret now. maybe I'll just put them in a box somewhere, just to know they're still there. maybe I'll get rid of them the next time I find them again.

Like it says in the note thing on the page, DVD or DVD/Blu-Ray are both fine, regular (not 4k) Blu-Ray is probably fine since my PS4 should be able to play those, but I only have a regular-ass PS4, not a PS5, I cannot play UHD, so if something is 4K UHD please make sure it has either a DVD or a regular Blu-Ray as well...

Anyway it should be set up so you can buy stuff off my registry without me having to blast my address to the world (lol) so if you do this, send me an ask or something off anon (so I can like, contact you) (that or like, send me a message on discord if we're friends, or w/e) and I will def draw you a little drawing as thanks 👍

So I have been collecting the blu-rays, which is a very expensive approach to say the least.

That's mostly because I haven't been able to find them either (admittedly, I don't think I was looking hard enough; There are copyright restrictions on YT, so I would suggest checking websites like Vimeo or Daily Motion)

That said, Kanasmusings has the scripts for all five musicals translated!
