There is more COVID-19 transmission today (January 2024) than during 94.7% of the pandemic.
💉 Please get the updated (new, not a booster) Covid vaccine. If you're in the US, ask your local pharmacy about the Bridge Access Program for free vaccines. You can also search vaccines.gov then select Bridge Access Program participant.
If you do not want an mRNA vaccine for whatever reason, consider Novavax: it is protein-based like other typical vaccines from the last few decades, and many (including myself) report minimal side effects. Talk to your doctor if you have questions or concerns.
😷 Wear a mask in public and/or any enclosed areas. "Mask" means a respirator of KN95/N95 filtration or higher, not a cloth or surgical (blue) mask. Covid is airborne, so an airtight seal and particulate filter is necessary for protection. Different kinds of respirators are used for everything from toxic fumes to asbestos removal; when worn properly, they greatly reduce risk.
Here is a guide for proper use and fitting of a respiratory mask.
Here is a short video by 3M (respirator manufacturer) on the importance of fit-testing.
🧪 Have tests ready. With the new variants it can sometimes take 5-8 days to test positive, so be sure to test twice, 48 hours apart. If you're in the US, you can get 4 free rapid tests sent to your home through USPS. Local schools and libraries also may have free rapid tests. If you qualify for the Test to Treat program, you can receive free at-home NAAT tests and treatment for both flu AND Covid, and access to telehealth. The earlier you test positive, the more likely you will be eligible for treatment with Paxlovid.
🔁 If you can afford it, air purifiers and HEPA filters can help reduce transmission. Making a Corsi-Rosenthal box is simple and inexpensive. If weather permits, keeping windows open helps. Ventilation allows fresh air to circulate.
👃 Nasal sprays and CPC mouthwash are other useful prophylactic measures when used in conjunction with PPE and other modes of mitigation like masking and distancing.
🚬There is still a risk of Covid when outside, similar to exposure from secondhand smoke or a fire. Since Covid is spread through aerosols, it can hang in the air like smoke.
🐶 As with other coronaviruses, many household pets can get Covid. If you have been exposed, avoid contact with animals.
"But I'm not old or weak. Why should I care?"
☣ Covid can still kill you or disable you for life, even if your initial sickness is "mild". Even if you are young and have no preexisting conditions. 90% of the original "long haulers" had "mild" cases.
🩺 Covid increases your risk of stroke, blood clots, and heart disease by 2 to 5 times within a year of infection. It can also cause brain damage, which is part of the loss of taste and smell and cognitive symptoms like brain fog.
🩸 Covid is able to infect multiple organ systems because it travels through the bloodstream and attacks the mitochondria, leading to dysfunction and chronic fatigue.
⚠ Reinfection doesn't make your body better at fighting Covid; it just does more damage to your immune system, akin to HIV. A damaged immune system is worse at fighting off illness, more susceptible to infection, and can lead to serious complications like pneumonia. And with every reinfection, your chances of developing Long Covid increase. Therefore, the best protection for your immune system is to avoid getting Covid as much as possible.
I know everyone is tired of this. But if there was any time to be vigilant, it is now. Please, let's protect each other.

Deadline: January 30th, 2024 Payment: 8 cents per word for fiction, $50 per poem Theme: Character-focused, weird sword-and-sorcery: stories of a dark and transgressive nature, set in a secondary or historical-paranormal (“our” reality, but with a twist, if you will) world, What  We  Want Old Moon publishes character-focused, weird sword-and-sorcery: stories of a dark and transgressive nature, set in a secondary or historical-paranormal (“our” reality, but with a twist, if you will) world, with a focus on rounded characters undergoing some sort of conflict, resolved (though not always successfully!) by the might of their main or mind. We love stories that combine that sense of action and adventure with well-rounded characters who make us question our own realities and perceptions. We love to see the gothic, the baroque, the eldritch, and we love to see it hit with an axe. Weird fiction and sword-and-sorcery can both be slippery terms. That is part of the fun! But, for our purposes we know it may help prospective writers if we list a series of authors and their stories we feel encompass (at least in part) what we love about the borderland of sword/sorcery and weird fiction: Joe Abercrombie ("Three's a Crowd," "Yesterday, Near a Village Called Barden...") Laird Barron ("Oblivion Mode," "Ode to Jode the Toad") Leigh Brackett ("The Sea-Kings of Mars")  E.R. Eddison (The Worm Ouroboros) John R. Fultz ("Chivaine") Robert E. Howard ("The Shadow Kingdom," "Worms of the Earth") John Langan ("The Savage Angela in: The Beast in the Tunnels") Tanith Lee (Birthgrave, "Southern Lights") C.L. Moore ("The Black God's Kiss") Silvia Moreno-Garcia (The Return of the Sorcereress) Michael Shea (Nifft the Lean) Clark Ashton Smith ("The Charnel God," "Necromancy in Naat") E. Catherine Tobler ("The Living, Vengeant Stars, "And After the Fire, A Still Small Voice") Gene Wolfe ("Bloodsport") The list could go on and on, of course, but we feel those provide a representative sample of the work we enjoy. We do not ask for pastiches of their work, but simply as examples of the diverse tones and forms weird fiction and sword/sorcery may take when at their best. Characters: We want defined, rounded characters who encounter and interact with conflict of some kind (preferably weird!) over the course of your story. Narrative style: We’ve a broad taste in styles, from the poetic to the plain. Our preferred prose is vibrant yet readable. Particularly poetic prose can win us over, but it must always support the story itself. Point-of-View: We prefer limited POVs: first-person and third-person limited, for example, but will accept any if done well. Grammar: We tend to prefer works that stick to established rules of written English, though we understand the need to deviate for artistic purposes. Originality: We want original works that speak with your authorial voice and flair. Though we love Lovecraftian works, for example, we are not necessarily all that enthused by straight pastiche.   Setting: We prefer medieval and antique-adjacent settings, though we're not strict on that point. But in general, we prefer something either pre-gunpowder or early-gunpowder. It can either be a version of our own real world, or a constructed secondary world (or a combination thereof). Extreme Content: We do not mind violence or sexual content, but we prefer it not be the sole or defining feature of a work. Gore for gore’s sake, extended torture scenes, depictions of extreme violence/conduct done to children, drawn-out erotic scenes and so forth are not right for our venue. Fiction Submissions Guidelines Length: 1000-6000 words. This is a hard limit, unfortunately. Simultaneous Submissions: We do not accept them.   Multiple Submissions: We do not accept them. Send only one story at a time, please, and only one story per submission window. Reprints: We do not accept them at this time, unfortunately. Language: English. Rights: We purchase first world electronic rights and first-world print rights.
This means you cannot publish a story we buy as a first-run or “new” story anywhere else in the world; this means it can only be published elsewhere as a reprint, typically at a much lower rate.   Payment: We pay 8c (0.08 USD) per word per short story. Payment occurs within 30 days of online publication, via PayPal. Poetry Submissions Guidelines Subject Matter: We prefer our poems deal with the same subjects as our fiction: tales of eldritch war, images of strange melancholy, and moments of bloody reflection, among other things. Exemplar poems: Our tastes run towards the antique. Some of our current favorites include John Milton's Paradise Lost, Algernon Swinburne's Tristram of Lyonesse, Robert Browning's "Childe Roland to the Dark Tower Came," and Charles Young's "Night-Thoughts." That being said, we are willing to be convinced by just about anything in verse, so long as it conforms to the aesthetic of our magazine. Length: You may submit up to five poems, each of fifty lines or less. This is a hard limit, unfortunately. Simultaneous Submissions: We do not accept them.   Reprints: We do not accept them at this time, unfortunately. Language: English. Rights: We purchase first world electronic rights and first-world print rights. This means you cannot publish a poem we buy as a first-run or “new” poem anywhere else in the world; this means it can only be published elsewhere as a reprint, typically at a much lower rate.   Payment: We pay $50 per poem. Payment occurs within 30 days of online publication, via PayPal. HOW TO SUBMIT Please send submissions as a .doc or .docx file to Old Moon's email: [email protected] Title your email "Submission: [title]." Provide a short, 1-2 line cover letter with the story's name and word count. Please do not provide an intro or synopsis of the story (we like to be surprised). We'd appreciate if your manuscript was in something approaching "Standard Manuscript Format," as well. Via: Old Moon Publishing.

After the sticks of powder are dried, then process of making Pong Viset Ha Pragaan begins. The monk will draw formulas of holy cabalistic writings on a chalkboard made of a sheet of mudstone. The formulas are written accordingly to the ancient scriptures, and while drawing them, the monk must say sermons and prayers to invite the power of Buddha, Devas, and holy ghosts of departed master or guru monk to accumulate their power in the molecule of the powder. At the end of each writing, monk will then erase the formulas of cabalistic writings, and keep the chalk dust in a container for further making Buddha amulets.
The Pong Viset Ha Pragaan must be made orderly, beginning with 1)Pong Pattamang, 2)Pong Itthijay, 3)Pong Maharaj, 4)Pong Buddhakhun, and 5)Pong Tri Nisinghe.
The first holy powder or the precursor to make Pong Viset Ha Pragaan is Pong Pattamang Holy Powder by drawing the formulas of Pattamang cabalistic writings with sermons and prayers. After the completion of Pong Pattamang Holy Powder, it will be divided into 2 parts, one as “Pong Pattamang”, and another one is for making of the next Pong Itthijay Holy Powder. Then returning to the first process of making the chalk sticks and then follow the second process to drawn Itthijay cabalistic writings with sermons and prayers, and keep repeating the processes for the next 3 holy powders.

Recurrent BV:
•Metronidazole gel suppressive therapy – After completion of induction antibiotic therapy, we treat with metronidazole gel 0.75% one full applicator (5 g) intravaginally twice-weekly for four to six months [1]. We re-evaluate patients yearly and use a symptom-driven approach to determine further treatment [68]. We counsel patients to avoid intravaginal metronidazole or intercourse starting one day prior to evaluation. We do not repeat molecular tests (ie, nucleic acid amplification tests [NAATs]) as they have not been validated for test of cure.
-Asymptomatic – Asymptomatic patients are continued on metronidazole gel twice weekly. The rationale is that we prefer to continue successful suppressive therapy rather than wait for repeat infection and need for more intensive treatment [68].
-Symptomatic – Symptomatic patients are retreated for repeat infection. Initial antibiotic therapy consists of the drug that has not yet been used or that resulted in the best past response. For patients who developed BV symptoms while on suppressive therapy with metronidazole gel, we typically add vaginal boric acid in combination with antibiotic treatment.
•Combination therapy with adjunct vaginal boric acid – Vaginal boric acid suppositories can be used simultaneously with induction antibiotic treatment [1,128]. For this approach, vaginal boric acid 600 mg once daily at bedtime is begun simultaneously with the antibiotic and continued for a total of 20 to 30 days [1]. Patients are seen for follow-up a day or two after their last vaginal boric acid dose; if they are in remission, we immediately begin metronidazole gel twice weekly for four to six months as suppressive therapy. Therapy is then discontinued once treatment has been completed.
Boric acid can cause death if consumed orally; patients should be told to store boric acid in a secure place that is inaccessible to children. Boric acid should not be used by individuals who are pregnant or attempting conception. Sex partners of patients treated with vaginal boric acid have reported skin irritation after exposure [129]. The magnitude and duration of risk from the time of boric acid use is not known.
●Patients with metronidazole allergy –Although supporting data are lacking, those with a metronidazole allergy can either undergo metronidazole desensitization (our preference) or be treated with topical clindamycin gel. In our experience, clindamycin therapy is frequently associated with vaginal yeast coinfections compared with metronidazole gel. Clindamycin should not be used in patients with a history of C. difficile infection.
Clinical expectations — We educate patients that repeat infection is common and is not necessarily diagnostic of recurrent BV. Studies have reported repeat BV episodes in up to 30 percent of patients at three months from treatment and in nearly 60 percent by 12 months [127,130,131]. Patients who responded well to initial treatment are anticipated to respond well again. As recurrent BV requires more intensive treatment and the diagnosis can be stigmatizing, it is important to limit this diagnosis to individuals with three or more confirmed episodes in one year.
Ineffective therapies
●Vaginal acidifying agents – Vaginal acidifying agents, although popular and widely used, have no role in the treatment of acute or chronic BV, as they have never been shown to enhance cure rates. A newly available vaginal gel containing lactic acid, citric acid, and potassium bitartrate (commercial name Phexxi) has been shown to be an effective on-demand contraception; however, its role in maintaining normal vaginal pH as management for BV has not been studied. (See "Pericoital (on demand) contraception: Diaphragm, cervical cap, spermicides, and sponge", section on 'Vaginal spermicide and pH regulator gel'.)
Douching should be avoided.
●Probiotics – In a randomized trial, probiotics were not more effective than placebo for prevention of relapse [65].

Submission Window: January 1st-30th, 2023 Payment: 0.08 USD per word Theme: character-focused, weird sword-and-sorcery: stories of a dark and transgressive nature What  We  Want Old Moon publishes character-focused, weird sword-and-sorcery: stories of a dark and transgressive nature, set in a secondary or historical-paranormal (“our” reality, but with a twist, if you will) world, with a focus on rounded characters undergoing some sort of conflict, resolved (though not always successfully!) by the might of their main or mind.  We love stories that combine that sense of action and adventure with well-rounded characters who make us question our own realities and perceptions. We love to see the gothic, the baroque, the eldritch, and we love to see it hit with an axe. Weird fiction and sword-and-sorcery can both be slippery terms. That is part of the fun! But, for our purposes we know it may help prospective writers if we list a series of authors and their stories we feel encompass (at least in part) what we love about the borderland of sword/sorcery and weird fiction: Laird Barron ("Oblivion Mode," "Ode to Jode the Toad") E.R. Eddison (The Worm Ouroboros) John R. Fultz ("Chivaine") Robert E. Howard ("The Shadow Kingdom," "Worms of the Earth") Caitlin R. Kiernan ("The Sea Troll's Daughter") John Langan ("The Savage Angela in: The Beast in the Tunnels") Tanith Lee (Birthgrave, "Southern Lights") C.L. Moore ("The Black God's Kiss") Silvia Moreno-Garcia (The Return of the Sorcereress) Michael Shea (Nifft the Lean) Clark Ashton Smith ("The Charnel God," "Necromancy in Naat") E. Catherine Tobler ("The Living, Vengeant Stars, "And After the Fire, A Still Small Voice") Gene Wolfe ("Bloodsport")  The list could go on and on, of course, but we feel those provide a representative sample of the work we enjoy. We do not ask for pastiches of their work, but simply as examples of the diverse tones and forms weird fiction and sword/sorcery may take when at their best. Characters: We want defined, rounded characters who encounter and interact with conflict of some kind (preferably weird!) over the course of your story.  Narrative style: We’ve a broad taste in styles, from the poetic to the plain. Our preferred prose is vibrant yet readable. Particularly poetic prose can win us over, but it must always support the story itself.  Point-of-View: We prefer limited POVs: first-person and third-person limited, for example, but will accept any if done well.  Grammar: We tend to prefer works that stick to established rules of written English, though we understand the need to deviate for artistic purposes.  Originality: We want original works that speak with your authorial voice and flair. Though we love Lovecraftian works, for example, we are not necessarily all that enthused by straight pastiche.   Setting: We prefer medieval and antique-adjacent settings, though we're not strict on that point. But in general, we prefer something either pre-gunpowder or early-gunpowder. It can either be a version of our own real world, or a constructed secondary world (or a combination thereof).  Extreme Content: We do not mind violence or sexual content, but we prefer it not be the sole or defining feature of a work. Gore for gore’s sake, extended torture scenes, depictions of extreme violence/conduct done to children, drawn-out erotic scenes and so forth are not right for our venue.  Submissions Guidelines  Length: 1000-6000 words. This is a hard limit, unfortunately.  Simultaneous Submissions: We do not accept them.   Multiple Submissions: We do not accept them. Send only one story at a time, please.  Language: English.  Rights: We purchase first world electronic rights and first-world print rights This means you cannot publish a story we buy as a first-run or “new” story anywhere else in the world;
this means it can only be published elsewhere as a reprint, typically at a much lower rate.   Payment: We pay 8c (0.08 USD) per word per short story. Payment occurs within 30 days of online publication, via PayPal.

My Favourite Naat (Or at least one of them)
In the name of God, The most gracious, the most merciful.
Establish prayer, pay your zakat, and bow down with those who bow down. - Quran, 2:43
Peace and blessings upon everyone!
I hope life's treating you well. I’m Esmeray and I welcome you to this post on my blog Dear Esmeray.
Today I'll be sharing with you my favorite naat. This is the very first one that I learned when I was 7 or 8 years old, I loved it instantly, Still do.
The naat is in my mother tongue, Urdu, hence I'll provide English translation after every stanza.
Here we go, I hope you like it as much as I do.
Zikr-e-Khuda me har dam rehna Sab ke bas ki baat nahi Khwahish-e-nafs se bachte rehna Sab ke bas ki baat nahi
To be ever-immersed in remembrance of the Lord Is not something of everyone's capability. To stay protected from the soul's desires Is not something of everyone's capability.
Deen ke khatir ghar-ghar jana Taif jakar pathar khana Phir bi Duaen dete rehna Sab ke bas ki baat nahi
To go door-to-door for the true religion's sake To be pelted with stones at Taif, And to still keep praying for the stone pelters Is not something of everyone's capability.
[Taif is the place where stones were hurled at the holy Prophet, Peace be upon him.]
Ashab-e-Nabi toh sab ke sab Makhlooq me sab se afzal hai, Siddiq ke jaisa ashiq hona Sab ke bas ki baat nahi
Each of the prophet's companions Are indeed the best of creation, [But] to be an admirer like [Abu bakr] Siddiq Is not something of everyone's capability.
Ungli se ishara chand ke janib Saare insaan karte hain Ungli se chand ke tukde karna Sab ke bas ki baat nahi
Pointing towards the moon with a finger Is something all people do [But] To split the moon with a [pointing of the] finger Is not something of everyone's capability.
Duniya talashi duniya bhar mein Gasht lagate phirte hain Farooq ke jaisa Gasht lagana Sab ke bas ki baat nahi
The world's patrollers, in the whole world, Roam about patrolling. [But] to patrol like Umar Farooq Is not something of everyone's capability.
Usman-e-ghani ka hamsar hona Maal me beshak mumkin hai Zin-nurain ka rutba paana Sab ke bas ki baat nahi
To be the equal of Usman-e-ghani In terms of wealth, is indeed possible [But] To earn the title of Zin-Nurain (Possessor of two lights) Is not something of everyone's capability.
Islam ka jhanda haath mein lekar Haidar aage badhte hain Khaibar pe qabza kar lena Sab ke bas ki baat nahi
With the standard of Islam in his hands Haidar [Ali R.A] marches forward To seize hold of Khaibar [Like Ali] Is not something of everyone's capability.
Ashaab-e-paiyambar Deen ke upar Jaanein qurbaan karte hein Deen ke upar, jaan ka dena Sab ke bas ki baat nahi
All of the prophets's companions, for the sake of Islam Are ever inclined to sacrifice their lives, To sacrifice oneself for the sake of religion Is not something of everyone's capability.
Maarikaa-e-haqq-o-batil to Chalta hi rahega aakhir tak Haqq ki himayat karte rehna Sab ke bas ki baat nahi
This war of truth and falsehood Is an incessant everlasting affair [But] to remain an advocate for the truth Is not something of everyone's capability.
Dushman se badla lene ka Har ek ke dil me jazba hai Dushman ko gale se apne lagana Sab ke bas ki baat nahi
To get even with the enemy Is a fervent desire in everyone's heart [But] To embrace to one's chest the enemy Is not something of everyone's capability.
Ishq-e-nabi ka da'wa toh Asaan bahot hai, Farman-e-nabi par a'mil hona Sab ke bas ki baat nahi
To claim love for the Prophet Is an effortless endeavor indeed, [But] To act in effect the Prophet's orders Is not something of everyone's capability.
Kufr ki aisi zulmat me imaan ka bachana hai mushkil Muslim bankar Hind me rehna Sab ke bas ki baat nahi.
In these conditions of oppression by disbelievers Protection of faith is challenging To remain standing firm as a Muslim in Hind [India], Is not something of everyone's capability.
That was the naat, it holds a special place in my heart for several reasons, and I can only hope you liked it as much as I did.
With Love, Esmeray ♡
