Shooter Jennings Is Back At It With ‘Hey Shooter!’ Series
Shooter Jennings, son of country legends Waylon Jennings and Jessi Colter, has released seven full length studio albums and is set to release another record this coming August. Jennings’ previous albums have gained major success within the country and southern rock communities and fans can't wait to see what his self titled album, Shooter, has in store!
To help promote the upcoming record, Jennings has released a series of comedic promotional videos titled Hey Shooter! and we promisethey are as good as they sound! In June, the artist dropped his song “Rhinestone Eyes” and gave fans a fun video to go alongside the track. The hilarious video featured Jennings and friends telling jokes in a cornfield as well as a live performance of the song. The country singer’s latest video features a similar theme, but this time includes a performance of his song “Denim & Diamonds.”
Check out Jennings performance of “Denim & Diamonds” in the clip below:

Stops include Brooklyn’s Brooklyn Bowl, Philadelphia’s Union Transfer, Washington D.C.’s 9:30 Club, San Francisco’s The Fillmore and L.A.’s The Troubadour among several others. Tickets go on-sale this Friday, June 8 at 10:00am local time. These shows celebrate a breakthrough year for Childers, which saw the release of his critically acclaimed debut album, Purgatory. The record—produced by Sturgill Simpson and David Ferguson—landed on multiple “Best of 2017” lists including Rolling Stone, Vice’s Noisey, Wide Open Country and NPR Music, who praised, “The intimacy he conjures is his gift, in this private moment made universal, and throughout his remarkable official debut.” Additionally, Childers is nominated for “Emerging Artist of the Year” at the 2018 Americana Music Association Honors & Awards and also made hisGrand Ole Opry debut earlier this spring.
Of the album, the Lawrence Country, KY native comments, “I am extremely grateful for Miles Miller introducing me to Sturgill Simpson, and also for Sturgill and David Ferguson taking the time to work with me. I think we both wanted to make an album for east KY, and I reckon that’s what we did. It’s not about rock, or grass, or country…it’s just hollerin’ in the mountains and stirring shit up! The band Sturgill and David put together was an all-star cast, and an honor to work with and learn from. I hope to do it again, but once is more than most are blessed with. Single Review: “Rhinestone Eyes” by Shooter Jennings
Tumblr media
It looks as if Shooter is going to focus on quality over quantity. Shooter Jennings’ forthcoming self-titled record (set for release on August 10th via Elektra Records) will be comprised of just nine songs, a couple which have been heard previously and managed to become standouts and favorites of his catalog. The first formal single from Shooter got the record off to a good start, and now the second, “Rhinestone Eyes”, is perpetuating that remarkable flow. If anyone has seen Jennings recently than there’s a decent chance you’ve already heard the track, one that has stood as a highlight of his recent performances and the recording of it is even more incredible. A love song through and through, it definitely differs from the bold material the purveyor of outlaw country typically does, but that’s not to say it’s not within his wheelhouse. Jennings is versatile, from songs that touch on nostalgia (such as the previous single), to one’s that allow him to make his snarky and accurate comments on the current state of country music, to this loving tale penned to show appreciation for his wife.
Built upon a foundation created by a delicate and twangy acoustic guitar, it’s that instrument that prevails over all others. The drums are audible, as is the electric guitar at times, though they take a backseat to that acoustic, ensuring the song is as sentimental and heartfelt as possible. Those emotions are mirrored by Jennings in his delivery, sweetly crooning the lyrics as he reminisces on where the love began to bloom and looks ahead to whatever may come, weathering it together. “Rhinestone Eyes” is pure and genuine, focusing on being truly enamored with another person and savoring every moment you’re able to spend together. “…Come to me, my rhinestone eyes, keep me through the trouble up ahead.” That final part of the chorus articulates the whole message of the song so poetically. Another line alludes to the idea of finally meeting someone that makes you want to settle down with them and build a life together. This latest single is rooted in simplicity, and it’s in that simplicity that “Rhinestone Eyes” finds an overwhelming amount of beauty. Its message is straightforward and to the point, though wrapped in a lush, gorgeous package, Jennings effectively penning a quintessential love song. One that some listeners will be able to relate to perfectly. And for anyone who may be a skeptic when it comes to love, well, the sincere and absolutely smitten tones that Jennings evokes can give even those people hope that maybe there is someone out there for them. In short, it’s a masterpiece. One that is apt to become a signature song of Jennings’.
