My Barbezieux cockerel, picture taken in January. Although it's taken a while, I think he's now matured to adult status and doing what he should be doing. Fertile eggs will be loaded into the incubator soon.

Hey! I thought I’d post about why I’ve been pretty quiet lately!

(I’ve had this saved as a draft for a couple weeks)

We got some new chickens, and Michael and I built a whole new coop for them. Don’t worry, it’s way bigger than it looks in the photo and has had quite a few structural and chicken-happiness upgrades done to it. 

We aren’t going to end up keeping all of them; just the pullets once we can reasonably discern which ones are which. Then we know some folks who we can trust with the cockerels. There’s one Barbezieux that we’re sure is a pullet, but the Maran and the Cemanis we’re not sure yet. They’re all considered fancy breeds, especially the Cemani- however these ones are considered imperfect so we got them for way less. We don’t want them for breeding so all chickens are perfect for us.
