and so, in spite of this pain— because of this pain— the emblian heir trudges on. she walks and walks until she stands an arm's length from embla, and stops in front of her with all the grave finality of a funeral bell. veronica faces her with a lifted chin. in part, to assert confidence; in truth, to fight back the tears that traitorously prick at the corners of her eyes.

"embla." veronica's voice starts off evenly, but it soon breaks into pieces— jagged shards of hurt, anger, and bitterness that are sharp enough to pierce.

"we… need to talk. don't try to fight. you can't, now that you're in askr. besides, i…" she squeezes her eyes shut, as though to ward off a migraine, "i know why you're like this… so don't make this any more difficult than it needs to be by running away. let's talk. now."

"You assume I would want to give myself unnecessary attention? Impudent child-" Embla stopped dead in her tracks, her blood... this woman was of her blood. She could feel it. A small smile came to her face, it was easy to assume the shorter woman would have answers to all of her questions. The god just needed to find out how to ask them without giving herself away.

Something about her was... strange, though. There was a disconnect between them that shouldn't be there. Just as quickly as that uneasy smile appeared, it returned to a scowl. "What is there to talk about? I have nothing to say to anyone. If you're going to prod me about things you think you know about me, you are wrong. I won't run, but you better make this worth my time." Her terrifying eyes narrowed, she took a step backwards, attempting to gain more distance between them. Being so close to someone made her uncomfortable.

Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom

Considering I'm fairly new in playing Legend of Zelda games, I'm really excited for Echoes of Wisdom!

Oh I knew all about Legend of Zelda since the start, but I had always wondered why is Link the protagonist and Zelda's always the damsel-in-distress? Considering the name of the game? At least in the cartoon she had a personality, and finally in BotW and TotK she's a bit more fleshed out.

But this! Can't wait to get my hands on it. Maybe it'll bring a new set of Zelda games, maybe one in the style of BotW/TotK but with Zelda as the main character this time? I can only hope.

As a general update, I'm going to work on posting most if not all of my fantroll writing either here and/or on my AO3! I'm not discontinuing CBAT by any means, but most of the writing has been languishing, locked away for so long out of fear of "spoiling" things - and honestly, by this point a lot of it may be more of a 'dubious' canon status simply because of how old the writing is! So I'm releasing it onto the world so people can appreciate my kids more until I pick up the pen for CBAT once again.

And on that note - I posted the last complete chapter to the introduction work of the Chaosbound cast!

However, I never finished writing the following scene, where Quokka gets to meet up with his crush Anxies, and that bothers me a bit to leave at that! So have what I did write of that meetup below the cut, as a treat:

As excited as you thought you were the night before, it hardly compares to how you feel tonight. As you stand on the corner of the street, you find yourself flapping your hands excitedly, rocking back and forth where you stood. Aaaaah, you are just too excited!!!!! You're meeting up with Anxies for the first time in forever! He actually agreed to meet up with you! 

You take a pause from flapping to give your wrists a break, still rocking in place. Oh god, you're gonna be meeting up with him in person, face to face, really soon! Face to really, really cute face… 

You shake your head vigorously, already feeling a flush coming on. Stay focused, Frarer! You can't let him catch you swooning over him! Especially since he may still have a secret quadmate he hasn't told me about, you muse dejectedly, wind out of your sails. You really hope it's not a matesprit. But what else could it be? Honestly, you have always been surprised that Anxies had that quadrant empty as long as he did. He's so handsome, and caring, he's not snooty like a lot of trolls in his caste and not a muscle theater weirdo either… And smart too, super practical. Maybe a little much for you at times but if you had to be honest you probably could use a little more of that in your life. Especially since sometimes he had even better ideas than you did. 

Damn. Now that you started thinking about it, it was getting you down. Maybe the only reason he agreed to meet you was so he could tell you about his new quadmate, turn you down in person. He's pretty polite that way, always handles the serious topics face to face if possible. You sigh wistfully. Well, at least he's still ok with talking to you, or else he wouldn't have even agreed to this… right? 

Your thoughts are interrupted as you hear someone calling your name. You can't stop your head from whipping up a little too eagerly, recognizing the voice instantly. 

“Anxies, hey!!!!!” You call out, waving an arm at him wildly. He chuckles, clutching the strap of his messenger bag in one hand as he waves back shyly with the other. 

“Hey, long time no see, huh?” He chuckles, a soft, welcoming sound that-- pull yourself together! If you start melting on him now there's no way he won't figure it out! You slap your cheeks briskly, startling him by the sudden action. 

“I-is everything ok?” He asks, a tinge of panic and concern in the edge of his voice. You grin at him. 

“Yup! Just getting myself psyched up!” You say. He tilts his head at you, a puzzled expression on his face. 

“Oh, ok…? For… what exactly?” 

You shrug.

“Not sure! So what's with the bag? Going to school with the teals now or something?” You jab a finger towards the bag, wondering if maybe that's where he met his new quad--- stop that! Don't go there! You remind yourself. 

Anxies snorts, adjusting the bag on his shoulder self-consciously. 

“Not hardly. Actually, uhm… I have some stuff for you, if you'd like it, anyways.”

“Whoa really? Sweet! But why didn't you just use your fetch modus?” 

Anxies flushes blue, averting his eyes. 

“Uhh, actually I uh. May have broken my fetch modus,” he admits, hunching his shoulders up slightly in embarrassment. You feel a grin creep up on your face at the concept - breaking a fetch modus? Who knew you could do that? - but stop, brain catching up with how uncomfortable Anxies looks to even be mentioning it. You resolutely form a straight line with your mouth, trying to look as serious as you can. Last thing this needed was him feeling like you were making fun of him.

“Aw, geez, that sucks. I didn't even know they could break, honestly. Makes me wonder how I haven't broken mine, you know?” 

Anxies laughs, a little gigglesnort, and it takes everything you have not to melt any more than you already have. 

“That would be pretty disastrous! Don't you keep a lot in there, too?” 

“Well duh! How else am I supposed to be ready for making the planet’s best obstacle course if I don't have anything to work with?” You retort, kicking a leg around absentmindedly, hands folded behind your back.

Kanji's showdown with his Shadow is way more intense than the others, honestly. There is some fucking intense angst here. (Also, Troy Baker my beloved never puts in less than 120%, we all knew this.)

I was curious how I would feel about All This in the year 2023 after having played this waaaaaay back when it first came out on PS2. I have my expectations set for "dated but potentially interesting" and I'm not disappointed (yet). Like, boy howdy, all of this? Super tracks.

Being queer, especially for someone like Kanji, is rrrrrrrrough. How much of his hypermasculine punk persona is artifice and how much is it truly himself? He's not the stereotypical young queer guy that his Shadow is mocking him with but he's also not devoid of those markers, and he's banging his head against the wall of cisnormativity and the dreaded Genders.

This game has some, aaaaah, opinions on girls. Or, I guess, hetero people and the whole... preoccupation with romance? Like, did anyone else get That Prank in school? Where a popular person of the opposite gender rolls up and asks you out, with the intention of mocking you for ever thinking you were in their league?

One of the jocks did that to me in HS and I completely didn't Get It and turned him down, and like... you wanna see some shithead boys who don't know how to handle that social script, ha.

My point is: boy howdy, Kanji. It's hard out here for anyone and everyone who isn't perfectly conforming to that specific ideal.

Anyway, Kanji says The Thing and passes out and Shadow Kanji happens.

And BOY I like the mechanics on this one and the implicit storytelling of them. Shadow Kanji is flanked by two very tough adds, Tough Guy and Nice Guy. Everyone on the team has a different weakness, and they all add shields to each other and buff each other to cover for their weaknesses.

It is, in many senses, how queer people, especially queer men, provide cover for each other as needed. Strength in numbers and being willing to help.

Looooong fight but not difficult.

VERY amusing to me that Shadow Kanji gets up and basically takes a verbal swing at Mister Repression here. Yosuke is more panicked than literally everyone here, ha.

Kanji fucking punching his Shadow to make him knock it tf off and then like almost... it's not kindness, but it's like... I'm grasping for the word. It's camaraderie? Like, he wouldn't punch someone else's Heightened Queersona, but he will punch his own bc he understands it and thus himself.

Does that make any sense?

So yeah, it was pretty fun at the Nintendo NY store a few days ago for the direct. Not sure if I'll go to another one though, and definitely never during the summer. The store has air conditioning but all those people packed in one area? Had to find a place to be alone and cool off afterwards.

For the most part, the people were cool, though the guy recording/live-streaming behind me was kinda...eh? Guy was more preoccupied with his own video rather than anything else, considering he literally tried to demand for the volume to be lowered when the Just Dance portion popped up so that the music wouldn't demonetize him. And since he was directly behind me, he was kinda always right in my ear with his own commentary.

Still though, again, there were some cool people. Ended up temporarily buddying up with someone while waiting in line. Ha, he said he was visiting from out of state and he was super lucky when the direct was just announced the day before. And he was super excited for an excuse to visit the store. For some of the presentations he quickly explained some stuff I didn't know, and vice versa.

It really is hard not to get swept up in the excitement when you're with other people. I was hollering and cheering for the stuff I was excited for, and even for the others I couldn't help applauding.

So for the games I'm personally super hyped for? Just four really, but yeah, SUPER hyped.

Oh my god, the moment Luigi popped out of the bushes, I recognized that art style, even though it's now in 3D. I loved playing Inside Story years ago and Brothership looks absolutely beautiful. I honestly wonder who's working on it since Alphadream closed? A few employees ended up in Nintendo or Nintendo-adjacent companies, and it'd be great if they were working on this.

I wanna take you for a ride...! There used to be an arcade I went to all the time growing up but it closed down around a decade ago. I have such fond memories of that arcade. (I do not acknowledge the Dunkin' Donuts that had since replaced it) Marvel vs Capcom 2 was one of my favorite games there (along with DDR), with its music and characters and action and aaaaah I can't wait to get back to it, and really experiment with all the characters instead of just spamming my gun with Cable ^-^

I want a chibi Zelda toy so bad. Maybe a keychain at least? She's so cuuuute! And yeah, finally, her first, long overdue game. The gameplay looks super engaging! I don't know why people are bitching about her not having a sword when her primary mode of attack is to throw boulders at her enemies. And following that, the spirits of her slain. That's pretty metal.

And finally, Ace Attorney Investigations! I'm so happy I got into the AA series last year, and I can't wait to experience more! Been busy and I kept putting off watching a playthough of AAI, but yaaaaay, now I can play for myself! Probably an extra good thing that I never picked up on the fan-translated names, lol. I hope the Layton crossover makes its way too, and hopefully more from the franchise in general as well!

mmmm wip i'm most excited to share right now is probably mtl fic. and for that i kind of already answered because it's the sorta the same as my answer to question 9. buuuut specifically for the next chapter i'm really hyped for adrien and marinette to meet up! because it's a fun emotional cocktail hehe. and i hope it hits the way i want it to!

14. What have you been finding frustrating with writing this chapter/fic?

okay i'm gonna answer this for Say Something, because i while it's not technically the one i've haven't touched for the longest, the other ones i've been stuck on longer were just because i wasn't super motivated to actually work on them

and this one...ugh i don't KNOW. there is a lot of dialogue that needs to happen in the next chapter (and there are like 5 characters in the first scene, at least 4 of whom are actually talking, so!!) and i couldn't figure out how to fit it all in. how to balance it. and ALSO i got stuck overthinking the way things come to a climax a few chapters from now, and i was all....oh no is this boring? anticlimactic? aaaaah

it's been a while since i worked on it though, just because of all my other WIPs. so i think i could go back to it now and not feel that same pressure, since it's not my sole angsty "i-actually-want-to-put-effort-into-this" long fic now--and because for a long time i felt like it was the best thing i'd written and while i still love it i don't feel that way anymore, so...whatever! i can just have fun with it! (i just...want to finish a couple other WIPs first before i can get myself to properly focus back on it ahaha)

hi i have had turnabout light brainrot for the past like 2 days but specifically about the concept of a soundtrack for it bc i am absolutely obsessed with video game osts so i am going to unload all my thoughts. i'd imagine the song for klavier's apartment is really empty and just doesn't have much going on. would fit how he is just. really alone there. also it's in c minor. idk i just think every depressing song in c minor sounds good. i don't know any other locations the case would include, but i'm still playing around with what klavier's jail cell theme might be. athena's is a music box version of her theme and trucy's is a slower/sadder remix of her's, so i've tried slowing down guilty love. unfortunately the music production team is amazing and it still sounds very peppy at .25 speed, and just doesn't fit the vibe at all. so i thought maybe it would instead be guitar's serenade or the gavinners • twilight gig. both are absolutely GORGEOUS themes that i would love to see reused, and both come from cases where he lost someone important to him (daryan went to jail and his law mentor died). even just incorporating elements of those songs into a different new theme created for the turnabout would give me psychic damage and make me pass away instantly from how happy i would be. an acoustic guitar with some reverb would fit extremely well too, and i'm always one for throwing mallet percussion into everything and anything, so i can see it having a marimba or vibraphone as well. additionally, given this isn't just an added case to another game and is rather a whole new game, apollo's theme would get an update like it does every game. 2013 had this beautiful electric guitar section, and 2016 had what i think is a synth solo that was absolutely amazing. i think it would be really cool if this version included the bell bits that were in the orchestra and 2013 versions of the theme!! also the 2013 version's ending is honestly my favorite of all time, so it would be neat if it included something similar to that. honestly even if you never listen to another theme from dual destinies PLEASE listen to apollo's theme it's so good i force everyone i meet to listen to it. i have so much more i could say but i'm just now realizing how long i've already made this so i'm gonna stop now. sorry i am a massive game music nerd and love your comic lol. super excited for part 13, but remember to take your time and not feel pressured to release it before you think it's ready.

the thought that someone can have actual brainrot for my work is amazing aaaaah. Anyways I'm LOVING these music ideas, especially for Klavier's apartment, you'd expect it to be pretty over the top for the rock star himself; but he really doesn't live in his apartment that much, it's kind of a lonely place when you look around at it. A slower, understated score fits much better to show how empty the place is. Anyways I've never played past aa4 so I'll be checking out those apollo themes soon I guess lol.

Any games that you really like?

I'm a long time follower of Tekken so I'm always happy when a new Tekken is announced :3

Resident Evil 4 is one of the best games I've played, even when I got stuck with it in such a way that there was no other way out than restart the whole game (they clearly hadn't thought about idiots like me who still can't aim near the end of the game lol). I'm excited for its remake!

I have played only the first Bayonetta but it was love at first sight! Everything in the first Bayonetta is like made for me. I especially love that the angels' are horrifying looking monsters from your nightmares.

I've been following Devil May Cry since the game was still on developers' table and we got first screenshots printed on a game magazine about it. Since DMC4 I haven't cared so much about it but I still follow the series and eventually will play each new game. I hope that now when the twin brothers Dante and Vergil are in Hell, DMC6 would literally be inspired by Dante's Inferno and Dante would go through Hell guided by Vergil. Such possibilities, aaaaah! ÖqÖ

Special mention goes to Katamari-series. In the game, you roll a round katamari and collect stuff with it to make stars (because the main character's father, The King of Cosmos, accidentally destroyed all planets). It's super fun to start from a small katamari and collect needles and stamps and paper clips and end up with a gigantic katamari collecting sky scrapers, small island and clouds! We Love Katamari is the 2nd installment and it's a game of how much people loved Katamari and wanted to roll more :D

I loved Pokemon Legend Arceus! I have never really played any Pokemon or followed the series but this was so cute and so entertaining I think I need to play more Pokemon games :3

Breath of Fire 3 is an amazing JRPG from the 90's. If you haven't played this, do yourself a favor AND PLAY IT. The story, the characters, the music. In what else game can you play as a mutated onion with cute screams?

Wild Arms 3 is also wonderful older JRPG. Very entertaining and straightforward to play. I'm currently still replaying it and this time I aim to finish it, as the last time 20 years ago I got stuck so badly I was unable to finish the game (it has some hard puzzles at times but luckily internet now exists in our pockets :D) Music is good!

From good music, I must mention a long time favorite Castlevania - The Symphony of the Night. Amazing soundtrack, amazing level design, amazing bosses oh my...! A dream game. <3

Not many know Bloody Roar series and to be honest, it would deserve a remake. I grew up with Bloody Roar 1 and enjoyed it a lot. It's a fighting game where the characters have an ability to turn into werebeasts, like Yugo here has turned into his wolf form.

Nier Automata is a game like I have never played or encountered before, it's absolutely INSANE! If anyone says games are just mindless entertainment, make them play this. So many awesome topics. It crushes your soul little by little in most horrifying ways and you're thankful about it. it makes you question your morals and ethics, as well as others' morals and ethics. If you like my comics, I think you'd enjoy Nier Automata, as some themes and elements are in both (though I could never write anything as insanely clever as NA is!)

The Last Guardian is amazing and very, very Japanese. This game as no aim, no side quests. You just travel with a big beast Trico and try to navigate your way out through different landscapes. Very atmospheric and realistic in a way that commanding Trico is sometimes difficult - just as commanding a wild beast would be. I don't think it was intentional that Trico doesn't do what asked so that you can go forward until after 10 minutes of you trying but I found it realistic when it happened, as frustrating as it was :'D

Of course, Final Fantasy VII, the original one, will go with me to my grave <3 QuQ

So like. I don't typically balance between two fixation at once, but I am between Pokemon and Splatoon right now - Pokemon keeping me in a grip with Lear from Masters EX and Splatoon with Side Order and Commander Tartar.

Today, I got two random bits of content for BOTH of my fixations and I honestly am so so happy right now. First, I was just doing some exploring on an official Splatoon website and learned that a theory i had about Tartar was actually canon this entire time and I either forgot or it completely flew over my head! That made me super excited because it works perfectly in hand with an au I made.

As for Lear, on the other hand...aha...haha...um...it may or may not just be a post or two below this on my profile 😅 I LOVE ASAVT'S ART AAAAAH and seeing that honestly made my night. I'm so so happy.
